DAYTIME TNs (#2): Y Mañana Será Otro Día, Hijas de la Luna…y Mas - Week of Dec. 9, 2019
Labels: daytime, hijas, otro-dia
Part 1
That was the inspiring message of Espinoza Paz lauding the work of everyone coming together to resurrect la Dolorosa. Unfortunately, shortly afterwards the police arrive to shut the place down and arrest Mauricio, supposedly for selling adulterated alcohol. All a scam engineered by Dario and his henchie, but it sure let the air out of the happy balloon this evening.
But all was not lost. Inés recuperated her memory, fell in love with her "savior" Mauricio, enjoyed her first kiss (and is looking forward to an extended practice session to improve her initial performance)and even our chronically angry Leonora is showing a little bit of compassion to one of the Juanas.
Things are looking up, Patio!
On the other hand, I'm a bit under the weather tonight, so I'm going to keep this short and sweet.
Barb is led astray by Mundito, who in his quest to find out who Mau has a crush on, decides it must be our feisty boxer. It's not. And she's crushed. But vows to keep on fighting for Mauricio's love.
Juan is all smiles with Leonora who can't figure out why. Well, 'cause her indiscretion actually led to great good--Inés, thanks to the shock, recovered her memory. And he gives her a sweet kiss on the forehead. She's flummoxed. And maybe there's a wee bit of a thaw happening? We can but hope.
Juana Victoria continues to be annoying as hell, at least to this recapper, but Estefania is also noticing a little something off when she observes Vicky and Sebastian talking together at la Dolorosa. Stay tuned on this one.
And finally, the name "la Dolorosa" is explained. When someone asks for the bar bill, they say "traigame la dolorosa" [bring me the painful one]. And there you have it! Another phrase to note in your study guide for the Final.
Mauricio and Inés, now officially novios, are blissfully happy. Soledad and Octavio, on the other hand, have hit the skids. First Sol discovers that she is not pregnant after all. Don't ask me for the details. But after a brief bit of empathy, they fall into a serious fight. Octavio blames her for not consulting a doctor. Had she done that, none of this painful illusion would have happened. She lashes out at him for his lack of support and understanding. And gives him back his ring.
Part 2
The initial celebration at la Dolorosa was fabulous. The Juanas were all gorgeous in their skimpy costumes, Espinoza Paz sang the show's theme song "Llevame contigo", confetti is falling all around and ZZZAZ! Suddenly it all blows up. And comes apart.
The police arrive and haul Mauricio off to the "separos" [jail cells] We have an unfortunate scene of him screaming for what seemed like hours. A visit from Inés calms him down a bit, but he's back to full throttle turbulence when his father Dario, under duress from Estefania, comes to bail him out. After hearing Dad's harsh opinion of his very being as a man, Mauricio lays it all out. Yes, I've run the Dolorosa for years. I also compose songs, play the guitar and love to sing!
Dario is totally disgusted. "I suppose you also knit and do crochet, you loser!" And stomps out after having reluctantly paid bail. Later, henchie is confused. Dario explains that Steffi forced him to act like a parent, but he's going to make sure la Dolorosa says shut down, in order to keep any money from coming to the Oropezas. The end goal: Forcing Seb to accept his money and then marry Estefania.
Let me add some positive notes to off-set some of this drama. Before Octavio and Sol's fight(which surely will be mended soon) they share with Spirit Suegra that there is no nieto-to-be. It was all a mistake. And Octavio apologizes for keeping her "stuck" here on earth, longing for grandchildren, instead of being able to move on to heaven. Suegra smiles and confesses that grandchildren weren't what was holding her back at all. She stayed because Octavio was "alone". But now he has Soledad to love him, so Mom can move on in peace.
So Patio, cross all your fingers and toes and hope that Sol and Octavio patch up their quarrel soon, so Mom doesn't have to return for a second round!
And meanwhile, we see some more cracks in Leonora's frigid facade. Clearly her tender side is evidenced in the laundry room where she laments her loneliness to Chick 1, Chick 2 and the lovable Petunia. But lo! we also see some empathy when a devastated Soledad returns home to cry her heart all alone. Leonora remembers how guilty young Soledad felt when she had a vision of her family's death but was unable to prevent it. And for once, she's quietly and gently sympathetic with one of her husband's "illegitimates".
The next day, Octavio also gets understanding and support from his buddies. And decides, rather than sell the beautiful crib he created, to donate it to some little one who needs a bed. Soledad shares her sad news with the assembled in the kitchen at the Blue House, and Papi Juan gently kisses her hand. Maybe not a granddad, but certainly a dad.
Well, those are the highlights. At least for me. Now I'm going to toddle off to a hot shower and a warm bed. And hopefully a better day tomorrow. For me and for the Juana Pack!
Add anything you wish. This is definitely the Reader's Digest version!
Wow! Wham! Pow!
Camilo is with Almudena, reading the agreements with potential investors who are friends of Almudena. He's not interested because they want to control his business. Their proposals are worse than Iñaki's, the one that would have brought back Monica to MediaLink. Almudena thinks that wouldn't be so bad, Monica certainly knows all about MediaLink and was a great asset to him before. Camilo is muy surprised by Almudena's acceptance of Monica.
A frantic Malicio is brushing himself off with an egg (What? an egg? must be a Mexican thing), and begging Barbi not to touch the doll, it's Voodoo, Paloma's black magic. She asks him how the doll could have gotten here, Paloma has never been here, right?
No, never, responds the frantic Malicio. But she has put a black magic hex on me and it's what's causing all my problems. Why don't you ask her to lift the spell?
The Good Wife Barbi calls Paloma and asks her to lift the spell, her black magic is the reason Malicio can't function properly.
Paloma admits she has used black magic, but she has no interest in lifting the spell, she wants to continue torturing Malicio for the harm he did her. Barbi points out that she is torturing not just Malicio, but her too. She then threatens to tell Rafa that Paloma is a witch, and suddenly Paloma wants to make a deal: Malicio has to erase and delete any photos or videos that he has of her, on his cell, on the computer, in the cloud, wherever, or the spell continues.
Malicio gets the message and agrees. He gets to work finding anything concerning Paloma and deleting it.
Iñaki talks with Rafa, Monica talks with Ximena. Can Monica and Iñaki actually continue being friends now that he has told her he loves her?
Monica thinks the world of Iñaki, but she doesn't want him as a consolation prize, nor would that be fair to him.
He is such a wonderful person, she only wishes there were a button she could press to make her love him, but there is no such button.
Diana talks with Chabe in the kitchen, while Eugenia eavesdrops. (Definitely not a first in telenovelas.) Diana talks about her bio mom, Mercedes, and how much Diana and her kids have inherited from her. Before she used to think that she had inherited her figure, her hands, various things from Eugenia, but now she thinks that they may have come from Mercedes.
Eugenia is listening and crying, they inherited nothing from her, she is an adoptive mother.
But then Diana tells Chabe that she got so much from her mom, Eugenia, as well, and what might she have missed out on if Eugenia had not adopted her. She got a good home, a good life, and Eugenia turned out to be the greatest gift Mercedes gave her.
A tearful Eugenia rushes into the kitchen and there are hugs and boo-hoo tears all around. (OK, it really was touching)
Later Eugenia visits Cristóbal at the rehab center. They talk about various things, including Eugenia's attending classes with Regina. She has decided to go back to school after all these years. Would he like to do the open "prepa" with her? [I don't know exactly what this is, but we have seen others studying for these exams to enter university before, so I suppose it's like an informal GED program and remedial studies to take university entrance exams. It's not important, but does anybody know more?]
Diana visits Monica and tells her about Barbi and Malicio. Monica accidentally lets slip that she knew Malicio spent his wedding night with someone else.
Diana wants details, they would help with the annulment, but Monica can't tell her. A tearful and ashamed, but brave, Ximena enters and admits she was the woman with whom Malicio spent his wedding night. She will help Diana any way she wants.
Barbi is with Doc Germán, who may not be the sharpest tack in the box because he only now confirms that Barbi and Cristóbal are siblings. OK, confidentiality, etc., so he can't treat them both, so he will dump Cristóbal on someone else and continue with Barbi because she's good-looking and anxious to get past this virginity thing. [Or, as he claimed, because he started a professional relationship with her first. Yeah, right.]
Malicio is with Camilo, trying desperately to get him to agree to some plan, any plan that will allow Malicio to become a partner even while his assets are frozen, but Camilo rejects the various ideas.
Two beefy, somewhat FBI-looking guys (from la Unidad contra Delitos Cibernéticos) enter MediaLink looking for Camilo; Malicio tries to find out why they are there but they decline to tell him, so he accompanies them to Camilo's office.
Pablo calls Monica to let her know it's going down. (little did he know...)
Regina and a classmate are talking about various things and hanging out. They go to the park and happen to meet Killer. It turns out Regina went out with him a few times then slept with him once. Then he disappeared. When she next saw him he was sweet talking some other girl, exactly as he did Regina.
She confronted him then, said they had been going out. He denies that, says having sex once does not mean they going together.
RRRCW Maggie guilt trips Manuel about taking care of her...
In Camilo's office the CyberPolice tell Camilo that they have uncovered evidence that a fraudulent scheme has been operated from MediaLink. Malicio says it must be some of the embezelment that Rafa was conducting in recent months.
The police say no, this is something that was going on for several years.
Thanks to Pablo's tipoff Monica, Diana, and Barbi arrive at MediaLink and enter Camilo's office. Monica tells Camilo that they are there to expose the real criminal in MediaLink's financial problems: Malicio. Monica hands Camilo spreadsheets showing Malicio's embezelment. Malicio is exposed.
There is a lot of yelling back and forth, Barbi slaps Malicio, and one of the agents looks away for a second, but that's enough for Super Malicio, he pulls the agent's gun out of his holster and puts it to Barbi's head, and tells everyone to back off. He makes an escape, dragging Barbi with him as a shield and still holding the gun at her head. Pablo tries to intervene but Malicio points the gun at him point blank and Pablo has to back off. Camilo and the others are trying to approach Malicio, trying to talk to him, but he tells them to back off and fires a shot into the ceiling to convince them.
He flees to the underground parking with Barbi still hostage, lots of people following them. They try to talk him into releasing her but he says she is his passport to safety.
Camilo volunteers to drop all charges, to take Barbi's place, etc., but Malicio won't listen. Monica tries to talk to him and he blames her for the mess he's in.
Rafa and Iñaki quietly arrive on motorcycle, and Rafa tries to sneak up behind Malicio.
Then a rather confused and confusing scene where Malico pushes Barbi into his car and Rafa rushes him, Iñaki calls to Malicio to distract him and Rafa and Malicio tussle for the gun. One of the agents is shot and falls down (but nobody seems to care), and Barbi escapes from the car. Rafa and Malicio fight each other and for possession of the gun which is now on the floor. Nobody seems bright enough to go for it while the two guys are fighting.
Rafa and Malicio continue tussling and Malicio gets the gun back; he shoots Monica in the arm accidentally. She looks at the bleeding wound and collapses in slow motion. Everybody runs to her and Malicio makes his escape by driving off. Rafa goes after him on his motorcycle in hot pursuit.
Monica is being taken to the hospital in an ambulance and Iñaki goes with her. He is extremely upset and concerned and prays that she'll be OK. She revives long enough to smile at him and say his name, then she closes her eyes and the medical monitor in the ambulance starts beeping.
Iñaki worriedly asks, "What's happening with her?"
== and here the episode ends ==

JudyB—Sorry you aren’t feeling well. Would you like a substitute tomorrow? It would be a skeleton, bare bones, no meat.
(So far I’ve watched the episode, but will read the recap in the morning.)
MAÑANA
Andy, will read your madcap recap of a real shoot-em-up episode tomorrow, also. But who’d a thunk of Malicio as a gunslinger, eh?
Thank you for your recap, Judy. I'm coming down with something, too. Hopefully we will both fight it off. I know I'm in trouble when my feet are cold and will not warm up. I brought up some chicken bone broth from the freezer to drink tomorrow. Might have to put some more garlic in it. 😷
Mauricio yelling in that jail cell seemed a bit out of character for him.
Apparently Sol did not take one of those home pregnancy tests. The local drugstore must have gotten blown away by the hurricane?
Leo with the farm animals . . . pretty sure I spotted chicken poo on the floor in there. Her compassion for Sol really caught me off guard. There is a real nice person deep down inside her....even the critters like her.
It was surprising to see Inesia in that waitress outfit and not her usual shapeless, voluminous garb.
I didn't make it clear that Barbi and Paloma were cooperating, playing on Malicio's superstitious nature.
What I am unclear about is whether Barbi told Paloma ahead of time or if not, and Paloma just realized what Barbi was doing.
But it doesn't really matter.
andy
Andy, thank you for another awesome andycap. Your title is perfect!!!
I watched this episode today and it was really great. I was shocked when Moni was shot. It's a flesh wound, she will be okay. Hope she didn't get a concussion when she hit the concrete floor.
And why nobody ran to get the gun when it skittered away from Malicio ,,,, well,,,,,it's a telenovela, so duh!
Barbi looked like she was laughing when she was in the phone with Paloma. Did i misread her facial expressions?
What WAS up with that egg and the voodoo curse? Inquiring minds want to know.
" OK, confidentiality, etc., so he can't treat them both, so he will dump Cristóbal on someone else and continue with Barbi because she's good-looking and anxious to get past this virginity thing. [Or, as he claimed, because he started a professional relationship with her first. Yeah, right.]"
LOL!
German looks like a nice guy and he is a nice looking guy.
Well, I had to "googlear" that egg and ... it really is a thing! Rubbing oneself with an egg is a spiritual cleansing, cleanse one's aura, etc. So we learned something today from our telenovela.
Trooper Judy, you get a virtual medal for going above and beyond the call of duty to keep us up-to-date on the doings in Mazatlán while you are sick.
Wear the medal proudly! (You can wear it with anything, being a virtual medal, because it never clashes with anything.)
Your recap may have been briefer than usual but I enjoyed it as I always do.
I didn't watch the show except for a few bits here and there.
This is odd. I thought the show was boring before, but now I like it more, especially Leonora and Petunia, and their wardrobes, not that Petunia dresses up much.
Nonetheless I'm not paying the show much attention beyond the recap.
I'm even losing interest (well, a little) in Hotel de los Nutjobs.
I am just telenovela-ed out. I need to cut back.
andy
Judy, you've been loyally recapping, providing wonderful summaries. Even though you are ill, you gave this your full and masterful time and attention. No excuses. No short cuts. Dedication pure and simple.
"Clearly her tender side is evidenced in the laundry room where she laments her loneliness to Chick 1, Chick 2 and the lovable Petunia" was smile inducing on its own.
"traigame la dolorosa" [bring me the painful one]" was great.
"Forcing Seb to accept his money and then marry Estefania?" Yes, now there's a sound decision, certain to lead to a happily ever after ending. Sigh.
",,,decides, rather than sell the beautiful crib he created, to donate it to some little one who needs a bed" touched my heart as did "...Papi Juan gently kisses her hand. Maybe not a granddad, but certainly a dad". Kindness is uplifting. And heartening.
Thank you for this lovely bed time story Judy. May you sleep well and feel better in the morning light.
Diana
andy, I look forward to reading your recap in the morning. It took over 2 hours for me to do mine and I can't read or write another word tonight.
Diana
Happy Friday the 13th!!!
Doris, thank you!
Yes, Barbi was thoroughly enjoying herself with Paloma. They were taking advantage of Malicio's superstitions about Voodoo and witchcraft to get him to do their bidding, and both women were laughing at him, though Barbi had to not laugh too much so he would continue to take things seriously.
Thank you for the information about the egg cleansing. It didn't occur to me to do a search, the brain doesn't work as well as it used to, if it ever did :-)
Diana, thank you.
I didn't realize you were currently recapping. So I took a look in the adult fare TNs and see you are doing recaps for Ringo.
Quite nice and lengthy recaps at that, and well written. Unfortunately, I have not watched a minute of it so I have no idea what goes on. But I sympathize with you; I get a bit drained myself and I'm a retired layabout with not much else to do :-)
I skipped tonight's Hotel. I'm now three episodes behind so there was no sense watching tonight or tomorrow. But this means I will have four episodes to watch over the weekend. Oy! Hoy!
andy
Andy, Diana, and Doris...thanks for reading, and in some cases watching. We do recaps when we're ill, when we're exhausted, when we're depressed and yes, sometimes when we feel great and have truly enjoyed the show. Volunteerism and blogging are strange bedfellows, aren't they? But so glad that you all are in my Petite Patio. And now I need to go google egg-cleansing and learn more. I have LOTS of stuff that needs to be cleared!
would
((((Andy))))..you and your wonderful, rollicking andycaps are a daily source of smiles for me. I look forward to them every day. So sorry that you ran out of ice cresm. Tragic. I am not a big ice cream consumer especially in winter, but I did buy 3 Ben and Jerry's ice cream thingies and had one last night after a light dinner.
OT....please keep me in your thoughts tonight . My younger daughter and I are going to the dedication of the community's new fire truck . Hub was on the finance committee. It will be tough. Our wedding reception was at that fire house. We went to New Year Eve dances there, and Hub and his softball teammates ran fun dances there . The house Hub grew up in is just down the street . I think it will be an emotional evening.
A cynical Frenchman once said, "there are some good marriages, but there are no delightful ones." I think you and Hub proved him wrong. And while I know the grief is terrible, it blesses me to know that two people were so happy and so right for each other and proved that yes, a long marriage can be not just good but truly delightful. May those joyous memories warm you tonight and always.
Always a treat ANDY, and if I have time I might watch my recording, if just to see the voodoo doll. I especially loved this:
Diana talks with Chabe in the kitchen, while Eugenia eavesdrops. (Definitely not a first in telenovelas.)
That's my ANDY. Always the wonderful, wry observation slipped in. Bien hecho amigo.
I'm experiencing telenovela envy now that yours has picked up and HIJAS is mostly non-stop stupid (although Petunia has given it a breath of fresh air (ahem).)
JudyB, thank you so much for the recap! and even more so since you whipped it out while you were feeling ill. Hope you are feeling better this morning. Have you googleared "egg cleansing?" If not, I can tell you what I know about it since this is something that is very common in my area; in fact, my mother was a firm believer in it..especially to get rid of any effects of the "evil eye." Have you all heard of that? That's when a person admires some feature ( i.e. hair) or even a belonging (i.e., earrings) that another person has and the admirer doesn't touch the feature/belonging; and something bad happens to the admiree/belonging (i.e., headache or the earrings break and fall off). Anyhoo, in the case of the "headache," the admiree is usually "curado de ojo" or "cured of the evil eye" via the egg cleansing.
The egg is gently rubbed all over the body starting at the head and working down to the feet as prayers are recited by the person doing the cleaning. In Mauricio's case, I was surprised he didn't concentrate on the area affected LOL
Now back to the TNs...
HIJAS
I HATE Dario. What a loathsome man; how can a father be so cruel to his own son? I hope that whatever anvil he gets is slow and excruciatingly painful.
Doris, I did see what looked like chicken droppings LOL It's pretty bad when chicken droppings get more attention than...the rest of the story! BUt I must say that this was one of the better episodes...so far.
MANANA
Andy, thanks for your ever-snarktastic recap! What an exciting episode; best one yet!
Absolutely loved Barbi and Paloma making Malicio freak out!
I too thought the gunshot Monica got was a flesh wound, but then when she went into what seemed the beginnings of cardiac arrest, I wondered if maybe the bullet had hit a major vein???
Looking forward to seeing the rest of the episodes!
I forgot to add what happens to the egg! The egg is cracked and placed in a clear glass of water (without the egg shell). The extent of the "evil eye" is defined by how white (or cooked) the egg gets; and the "evil eye" appears on the egg yolk in the form of a darker yellow spot.
The top of the quilt is a patchwork pattern, more or less a checkerboard. One set of squares picture all the happy memories you have from your long life with your beloved husband and family. The alternating squares contains TN memories from the patio members and anyone who shared telenovela comments with you, be they still alive or departed from this life.
The batting or filling of the quilt is warm and fluffy. It is made of all the good wishes and love from this board--wishes for comfort, strength, endurance.
The backing or lining is also warm and very soft to the touch. It is fabric that can absorb all the tears you need to shed and all the feelings you need to process. As you walk through these most difficult days, use this quilt to wrap snugly around you , to warm and comfort you.
I just love this and thought it would bring you comfort :-)
All three seem to be topics to cover today. I'm a bit late, but I've been doing everything a bit late these days. Thank you JudyB, and thank you for recovering so quickly. Extreme exhaustion can mask as an illness, so good to hear you are ok.
About Dario. As we have been witness to in tns, male children are held above all else as a normal reaction to parenthood. Why Dario is so unabashedly disillusioned with his son, beyond just being disappointed, is NOT normal. I think he's been hiding something--a la JuanO. It's just a Crockpot theory, but I'm becoming convinced Mau is not his child. Either that or we have to put him in the RRRCW category. I noticed that he had changed out of his sad plaid to bear brown.
Steffi, to me, continues her transformation from snooty princess to one of the beloved ordinary folks, according to her hair and clothes at least. Still, she looks BETTER and acts better than JuanaVic, who tried hard to get into every screen shot in La Dolorosa.
What can we say about Leo...are the icicles beginning to melt? Wait until she finds out Dario's hand in the family's misfortunes. She's already a little pissed at him. She actually seemed a bit sad to witness all the fun and frolic going on at La Dolorosa's grand reopening while she had one-way conversations with her animal kingdom pals, as gracious as they were to her.
Of course, Malicio had to get away. Where would the fun be of bringing him down three times if he hadn't. I hope Rafa does the deed and hauls him downtown by the scruff of his neck. Who would have believed a "clever" cyber con-man like Mal would really believe in brujas, voodoo and evil spells. Gaah, well, anything to get on with the show.
Susanlynn--I hope that instead of sadness last night at the firehouse, you were surrounded by friends and colleagues of your hub's and stories that uplifted you and made you smile. Thinking back on your hub isn't bad, it should bring you joy to have had such a person by your side. I hope you find some solace enfolded by JudyB's special quilt. It's our good fortune to have you amongst us and with whom you feel you can share some of your burdens.
Susanlynn, doris, Judy and Susanlynn have already expressed such beautiful and heartfelt thoughts, I will simply add that I am praying for you.
Courage. When you think there is nothing left, it is there. Trust me.
Love, Diana
Chickie, I guess I was a little out of it when Judyb made me that lovely virtual quilt. Thanks for posting it here again.
ANITA...I had to laugh at Juana Victoria "who tried hard to get into every screen shot at la Dolorosa". Yes, we've either got a serious case of somebody hogging every scene or just a director turning a reasonable character into a super annoyance.
OT THE QUILT for SUSANLYNN
I think someone else created that beautiful memory quilt for Susanlynn, RGV CHICK. Either that or I'm experiencing memory loss. But might it have been DORIS? Or NIECIE?
I wish that I had written it. It is similar to the prayer shawls that people create for those who are in great distress. Anyway, thanks for resurrecting it. We could all use a quilt like that.
I did google similar information RGV CHICK and found it fascinating. I could use some "egg cleansing", some magic dust and some reverse voodoo for sure! And I love the many ways we have of dealing with stress. What I found was labeled Appalachian Egg Cleansing, but it sounds just like what your mother taught you.
Rgv Chick - I'm glad you found it was La Paloma who made the quilt. I knew it was not me, but I've copied it now.
Judy, what good news that you're feeling better! I've slept thru two Hallmark movies (LOL) with the fog on my lap today, but also got a Pike of laundry done and telenovelas watched. Cold and drizzling today, do a good day to stay in.
Page 1
Yes, turns out our little ex-novitiate is very serious about her duties. Not only has she laid down the law to the entire Blue House family about saving money on toiletries, food, gas, electricity and the water bill--she's embarked on a serious, intense quest to perfect her kissing performance. Fortunately Mauricio is a very willing tutor. I have a feeling the dishes from dinner are not going to get washed tonight.
But that's not how the episode started. The first scene was very sweet--each member of the Oropeza extended family came into Soledad's room, one at a time, with a single flower. Last to arrive was Papi Juan, to give her a kiss and remind her that each one of her sisters, as well as Tio Xavier and Vicky's madrina Teresa love her unconditionally.
Now would that all the scenes were that positive and uplifting this evening, but alas, jealousy has reared its ugly head-- along with Barbara's ugly hairdo (or as Susanlynn would say, her hairdon't). Yep, our little boxer is back to her ugly clothes and her pugnacious attitude, alternately pounding the bejesus out of a punching bag (in spite of Leonora's protests) and vowing to show up Inés as incapable of being in love with Mau.
Inés seems vaguely untroubled by all these threats. She's dreamily sweeping up chicken and goat doo-doo from the laundry room when Barb flies in to challenge her. Totally unperturbed, she reminds her sister than Mau saved her life--he's her hero--and when she remembered that, she also remembered how much he liked her. So...it's a done deal, baby. Barb begs to differ and goes off on a quest to prove how one is...or is not...truly in love.
First she questions Soledad. Maybe not the best idea at the moment. But Sol finally acquiesces and says when you're truly truly into someone, you don't have eyes for anybody else. Another incredibly hawt guy could go past, and you'd never even notice. (Sounds a little unreasonable to me, but what the heck, these telenovelas are adult fairy tales, so yeah..okay. If you say so, Soledad.)
We have a brief scene between Sebastian and Juana Victoria. They're making mad, googly eyes at each other, she's jiggling and twitching like someone in withdrawal... and both are edging closer and closer into the near-kiss zone as he tries to explain the necessity of finding his biological dad. He's even consulted with the All World All the Time doc to find out how to broach the question of his parentage without triggering a heart attack in dear old mommy.
Meanwhile, his putative dad Juan has gone to Octavio's house to return Mauricio's money. Remember when he paid Juana Inés whopping big hospital bill? Well, Papi Juan insists that it's his duty, as a father, to take care of that expense. And finally Mauricio accepts the money. No one is happier than his hungry and somewhat dirty roommates, who are dying to get some food in the house, along with soap and shampoo and everything else that makes life worth living.
Part 2
Sebastian has managed to bid farewell to Vicky without ravishing her and is now in heavy consultation with Tio Xavier. He wants to know who Mom was seeing about the time she and Papa Juan were trying to get pregnant. Tio shares that he was off in India at that time, but Leonora's best friend was Ingrid Montalvo. And she still lives in Mazatlán where she owns a jewelry store. Maybe Seb should get in touch with her. Okay. Perhaps a Turning Point a la Andy?
But what about that money that Mauricio came by? I sure hope our Mau left a little for groceries, but for sure he hightailed it over to Dario's office to have a frank talk and shove the bail money back in dad's face. Mutual recriminations are exchanged, although there's one funny moment when Mau accuses Dad of being behind his arrest--Why? Well because he's the most powerful man in town and only he has the mojo to get the police to do his will.
Dario's face lights up like Gee, son, gosh, yeah, you're right. That's me to a "t".
Of course it doesn't actually go well. When Mau asks why Dario hates him so, the answer is:
"Naciste débil" [You were born weak}
Well, fine...you have no respect for me. And I despise you right back, snarls Mau. And leaves.
No unconditional love here I'm afraid.
What about back at the Blue House? Well, lots of love but only beans for dinner. And "frijoles" are pretty much the order of the day. Beef or chicken only three times a week. The rest of the time--legumes and vegetables.
I'm laughing because that's pretty much how we eat since my husband's heart attack. Except no beef and no chicken. You get meat on holidays and the kids birthdays. Soooo...I'm not feeling too sorry for the Blue House folks.
Part 3
In addition to Inés' food restrictions and cheaper toiletries, Juana Victoria adds another plan for getting out of poverty. They'll form into competing teams to funnel in hapless tourists to the spider's web of Tiempos Compartidos [Time Shares]"free breakfasts". You know, those free meals where our trio of Seb, Juan and Xavier extol the wonder and joy of buying one of these real estate packages. Will be interesting to see how this works out.
Now we jump to an evening cup of tea by the ocean, shared by Vicky and our listless Steff.
Cultural question: Is it normal in Mexico to drink your tea with the tea bag still in the cup and the string hanging out? That would be gross here. You brew the tea, then you dispose of the bag. Then you drink it. The other way is about as polite as those ads showing guys rolling out of bed at noon, still in their jammies, to pop their first beer of the day and watch football. Jeez. Pull it together here folks.
Anyway, the girls sip their sloppy tea while Vic delivers her usual hyper pep talk. She wants Steff to focus on a goal, a project, like maybe starting her own restaurant. Steff likes the idea--but her "project" is going to be winning back Sebastian's love. Not quite the result that Ms. Vicky was going for.
And back at the Blue House another ill-fated project is rumbling. Barb is taking out her jealous rage on a punching bag, but Leonora wants it stopped NOW and Mama Margarita counsels Barb to channel her fury into winning back Mauricio. Oh boy, this does not sound good.
Part 4
Vick is back at the Blue House crying on Madrina Teresa's shoulder. What to do, now that Steff is back in the hunt? It's a mess![es un relajo] she wails. Steff, quite unaware of Vic's conflicted feelings is happily telling Dad Dario her plans. And Dad Dario is worried. He sees the possibility of Steff being further rejected, and more deeply depressed if Sebastian doesn't return her love...and he's not about to let that happen.
And Juana Victoria, perhaps feeling threatened by Steff's new goal, manages to get in some stolen kisses herself, while Sebastian tells her his plan to find his biological dad.
Aaaaaaand...more kisses. This time our Mauricio and serious student Inés. The boys have finished dinner, Inés, like a good hausfrau is scrubbing at the kitchen sink, but also giving Mau the eye. You know the one-- the Get These Guys Outta Here eye. Without too much trouble they do send the lads packing and some enthusiastic practice begins. She's not quite up to those vacuumed-sealed besos of Que Padre Tan Madre fame, but she's working on it.
Final Part
And Dario is working on more skullduggery. First he meets with his friend in banking and obtains all kinds of illegal information on the state of Mauricio's bank account and investments, as well as Xavier's. It also should be noted that he has returned to that absolute disaster of a suit her wore many episodes back, that consists of alternating slabs of beige and puke puce. Topped off by a peach shirt, pink tie and maroon vest pocket handkerchief. It is a genuine horror. Right up there with Barb's boxing outfits.
After the banking convo, he meets with his henchie to discuss how best to derail the Oropeza's finances so he can use dinero as a battering ram to get Seb back to the altar with Steff.
Meanwhile, our poor Leonora has returned to the cozy laundry room to pour out her multiple woes to Petunia. It's possible that Petunia is growing weary of her role as Mother Confessor....at any rate, she cuts the therapy session short by gobbling down Leo's cellphone. That earns her a quick exit and a "You're not my buddy anymore!" from Leo.
Honestly, I wouldn't want to be sweeping up that laundry room anytime soon.
Well, this engenders another monetary crisis. When Leo confronts her family and demands a new all the bells and whistles cell phone, Inés puts her foot down firmly--No way! They're way too expensive! Out of the question.
No matter. Leo later meets for lunch? dinner? snack? who knows? with Dastardly Dario and swans back into the house later, announcing loudly "Guess what Señor Oropeza!? Just guess what Dario bought me!?" And proudly shows off her new phone.
Well, I dunno folks, but that sounds like throwing down the gauntlet for sure. What will our Juan Oropeza do in the face of this shameless challenge? Well tune in Monday to find out.
Fantastic Judy!
I never had kissing school nor a kissing class option so I'm a bit jealous! There really is nothing like those first, sweet, fresh kisses when you start to fall in love. Great title.
"alternating slabs of beige and puke puce". Oh my, a pure fashion faux pas. But likely a fun sight.
Many favorites including "Naciste débil" [You were born weak}".
"The boys have finished dinner, Inés, like a good hausfrau is scrubbing at the kitchen sink, but also giving Mau the eye". This conjured up that old ad "She can bring home the bacon, fry it up in a pan, and never, never, let you forget you're a man" or something similar.
"She's not quite up to those vacuumed-sealed besos of Que Padre Tan Madre fame, but she's working on it" had me smiling.
Judy, your recaps are such a treat. English and Spanish both. And "skullduggery" could not be more perfect.
I know that no matter how under the weather or how exhausted you might be, you soldier on to always provide these marvelous summaries. So indicative of who you are, dedicated and generous.
Gracias amiga.
Diana
doris, our comments crossed and you made me smile.
Resting while "watching" a movie with your fur child on your lap. Heaven to me.
Anita, earlier, our comments crossed also and just wanted to mention I loved this: "She actually seemed a bit sad to witness all the fun and frolic going on at La Dolorosa's grand reopening while she had one-way conversations with her animal kingdom pals, as gracious as they were to her."
I hope we get to watch something "together" soon.
Diana
Thank you for your recap, Judy, and a great title for it.
Inésia has really become a bossy little thing, hasn’t she?
The amoeba clan v2 consoling Soledad was sweet, with each person giving her a flower.
A tea bag kept in the mug will eventually make the tea taste bitter. Ew. But about those beer morning shower commercials? Um…. we’ve seen them…..there are two or three in that series of Future Alcoholics ‘R’ Us and it is a bit scary.
Petunia eating Leo’s phone, then hearing it ring inside her stomach, was a hoot. Hopefully no goats were harmed in the filming of that scene. HOW did Leo not notice??? Gah.
”Honestly, I wouldn't want to be sweeping up that laundry room anytime soon.”
And . . . on the topic of goat poo ….. This is the latest gag gift I’m giving my family for Christmas:
Goat Poop candy --> https://beekman1802.com/blogs/almanac/goat-poop-1
Don't get me started on Dario. I'm with Anita's theory that Mauricio might not be his son. Either that, or Dario is just plain crazy, but this is a telenovela so there must be a story behind it.
Judy, thank you for a fun recap. I only saw a few scenes, but it doesn't matter since your recaps are better anyway.
"That earns her a quick exit and a "You're not my buddy anymore!" from Leo." That sounds interesting.
A year or so ago I heard one little girl tell another "I'm not your friend anymore!"
She said it exactly the same way, intonation, everything, the same way little kids would say it more than 60 years ago. It was a revelation.

A Very Peculiar Road Trip
Rafa on his motorcycle chases Malicio and they weave through traffic like crazy.
Manuel goes to see Lidia at casa Sarmiento to tell her he loves her and he knows she loves him. She doesn't deny it, but she knows he will have to take care of RRRCW Maggie; he says yes, but when she's better...
Who knows when that will be, if ever, she counters. So Manuel pulls her close and gives her a big Hollywood kiss, though not very well done. It looked like it might have been a little painful, in fact.
Whatever. She breaks the embrace and tells him to go.
Malicio makes a mistake and winds up in a dead end street. Bright guy that he is, Super Rafa gets off his bike and rushes armed Malicio sitting in his car. Malicio sticks his gun out the car window and takes aim as Rafa approaches him... Lots of dramatic music... Malicio fires point blank at Rafa. Fortunately for SuperRafa, Malicio is out of bullets.
Super Lucky Rafa reaches in through the window and tussles with Malicio, but Malicio elbows him and speeds off.
RRRCW Maggie is on her cell phone trying to reach Manuel, but there is no answer.
The gang back at MediaLink are all talking about what happened. They agree that it's a shame that Monica was wounded and taken to the hospital after all she did to help them unmask Malicio as the one behind MediaLink's problems. Nora tells Luis that she would have died if anything had happened to him, if he had been injured. And he tells her he would not have let anything happen to her. (No pulsating hearts, but we get the idea anyway.)
Rafael arrives, all upset and angry. Malicio got away from him. A police agent says they will find him but Rafa is still upset. After all, the police had him, right here in the office, and he got away.
Slick Malicio changes cars, and goes to his apartment where he grabs his hidden cash and passport and runs back out.
Rafa calls Paloma, be careful.
Regina visits Mercedes in the home again. They get along really well, and Mercedes asks Regina how her grandmother reacted to her pregnancy. Regina says her grandmother understood how it was and didn't judge her.
My grandmother is you, doña Mercedes.
Mercedes goes to leave; she tells Regina, you deceived me. Regina says she had no choice, Diana was suffering because Mercedes had rebuffed her, and Regina had to do something to help her mom.
Regina tells Mercedes not to be afraid that Diana would judge her for giving her up, Regina already told her the complete story, including the alcoholism, and Diana doesn't want to judge her, just get to know her a little.
Rafa goes to the hospital to wait with Iñaki and los Sarmiento. Everybody apologizes to Rafa for blaming him for what was actually done by Malicio
Malicio goes to Ximena's office at the bank, and at first she thinks they are playing one of their little games, he will kidnap her, tie her up and then...
Malico disabuses her this time and shows her his gun. He has her transfer funds to one of his accounts and forces her at gunpoint to go with him to her apartment and pack some things. She is his new passport to safety. They will head for Chiapas and try to get out of the country. Before they leave Ximena has to go to the bathroom (hey, when you gotta go, you gotta go). She carries Camilito with her, and writes a message on the bathroom mirror. Then off they go.
They spend the night in an out of the way no tell motel.
Monica is OK and Dr Juan will now allow visitors. Everybody goes to see her and they all thank her and/or apologize to her. Camilo says he will accept Iñaki's proposal to invest in MediaLink and wants Monica back to run things.
Iñaki takes Monica home to her apartment from the hospital. She goes for Camilito in the bathroom and eventually notices Ximena's message on the Mirror, "The Monster is taking me to Chiapas". She alerts Camilo, and a band of them, Monica with her arm in a sling, Iñaki, Camilo, and Rafa, all head to the airport to take a flight to Chiapas.
Regina tells Diana and most of her siblings that she has been meeting with abuelita Mercedes, and Mercedes wants to meet them all. The family is extremely surprised, but she tells them the story of how she approached Mercedes at first and how they came to be friends.
Mercedes at the home is packing up her books, the only things of value that she has; she wants to give them to her grandchildren.
This is one very peculiar road trip:
Ximena and Malicio are driving south headed toward the border and arguing from time to time like a long married couple. Ximena wants to know what Malicio is going to do with her once they are out of Mexico. He assures her he has no intention to harm her, he is no killer.
Then why continue threatening me with that gun?
You're right, it has no bullets anyway, and I couldn't cross the border with it. And he tosses the gun out the car window.
Ximena is ticked off, she would have been able to relax a bit if she had known there were no bullets.
Malicio says they are accomplices in his flight. She denies it, she was forced into helping him.
Maybe, but the authorities won't see it that way. Neither of them is an especially honorable person, they both love the adrenaline rush of adventure, why don't they stick together?
Are you serious, Malicio?
Perfectly serious. Right now I'm your best option. We could get ahead better as a couple, watch each other's back, and I would love to live with you. What do you say?
Another "romantic" scene, a little more mundane: Chabe takes Laura her divorce papers. Laura signs them, she has no further interest in Patricio, that's history.
Well, asks Adrián, if that's the case how about you and me? She smiles, he smiles, and then smoochie, smoochie, smoochie.
Monica, Iñaki, Rafa, and Camilo are at the airport ready to go to Chiapas. There is also a police agent there and Monica has some information for him. Roomies and best friends Monica and Ximena have given each other access to the other's phone and information in case of emergency. She sees that a car rental was charged to Ximena's credit card, and this alerts the police what car to look for. These days most rental cars have GPS devices and the rental agency should be able to locate the car.
Back with our odd couple, Ximena has been thinking. Finally she accepts Malicio's proposal, or whatever, and agrees they would make a good team. And she has nobody other than Monica anyway, and once she learns about this, she won't even have her. So she accepts Malicio.
But first she needs to eat something, stop at a store, or anywhere they have food. He agrees and leans over to give her a little kiss.
== and here the episode ends ==
andy
Thank you for another entertaining andycap, Andy.
"So Manuel pulls her close and gives her a big Hollywood kiss, though not very well done. It looked like it might have been a little painful, in fact."
I noticed that, too. It was really weird. And painful looking.
Thank you for explaining the road trip escape scene Ximena-Malicio convo. I was sitting too far from the TV to read the terrible CCs and only caught part of it. Plus, that dog asleep on my lap thing..... However, the scene was very well done. Ximena really thinks fast on her feet.
Good morning ANDY and DORIS... like my recap partner, I agreed with your depiction of the "hollywood kiss"...it looked painful. I hate those forced kiss scenes--where usually the heroine resists, then melts into a frenzy of passion. Not quite that way here. But a smash mouth kiss is never sexy. I experienced some when I was a student in Europe (it seemed to be a German thing) and it's definitely not a turn-on.
Also loved your depiction of Nora and Luis..."no pulsating hearts but we get the idea anyway"
This was certainly quite a round of people instantaneously and generously forgiving one and all, brushing aside resentment as "pointless". Ah, would that we all had the short memories and loving hearts of telenovela characters!
The other thing that struck me was how tidy and organized Mau's apartment was. No clutter, no unwashed dishes, no dirty laundry. Ojala!
Thanks ANDY. I always enjoy your recaps too amigo.
Thank you, Judy! Fun recap and your titles always bring on a smile.
Favorite scene was, by far, Petunia eating the phone. I kept wondering how they got her to do that; it must have been made of alfalfa or grain LOL. Same thing with the sandwiches. Goats do NOT eat bread or protein, the lettuce maybe, but my goats bawk at anything that isn't grain or one of their favored greens...since there are weeds and other greens that they won't touch. Ok, I'm rambling...on with the TN.
Not much else stopped my eyes from rolling....except when I tried to give Dario the evil eye hoping he would keel over and die.
MANANA
Andy, thanks for your fun recap too. This episode wasn't as exciting as the previous one, but it was good.
When Malicio was holding both Barbi and Ximena, I kept shouting S.I.N.G! S.I.N.G! But I guess neither one watched Miss Congeniality when she showed the audience that defense method. I also wondered why the cops didn't think to stake out Malicio's apartment from the get-go; I guess that wouldn't have been as exciting, huh? And it would have kept them from prolonging everyone's misery.
Doris, ITA Ximena does think fast, but since Malicio was turning away when they approached the checkpoint, she coulda signaled to them that things were not right. Again, writers need to prolong the misery. I wonder what she has up her sleeve now. She did good in convincing Malicio why she was willing to accept his "proposal" ...even after that painful Hollywood kiss LOL Good one, Andy!
Judy, "This was certainly quite a round of people instantaneously and generously forgiving one and all, brushing aside resentment as "pointless". Ah, would that we all had the short memories and loving hearts of telenovela characters!" Wonderful, just wonderful! You have an extraordinary talent for summing things up :-)
JudyB--No trace of feeling a little "off." The recap was soundly "on." You keep knocking them out so effortlessly and each one a gem.
I guess Ms. Vicky didn't want Inesia to get all the kissing scenes and had to get in a few with Seb. I thought as recently as one episode, she told him she loved him but they couldn't be together so no more kissing, etc. Hmmm. Those writers do change course quickly in the middle of the story. Well, all the better for getting us to the end. (What will she do now that Inesia is occupied elsewhere, but Steffi is now after Seb? Kissing desert?)
Doris--I tried to picture a fog on your lap. And a pike of laundry. That is what my family laundry pile used to look like back in the day. I love typos. Creative dictionary building.
Andy--You certainly are giving us the blow-by-blow action in Manana. I love your recaps so much more than watching the episode. However, in this one instance, I got a big charge out of watching Ximena "negotiating" her way out of a truly frightening situation with Mau.
We're all sure she has something up her sleeve when they stop for food. I wondered why the rescue squad headed for the airport while Mau & Xi were in a car. When I looked up the distance between Mexico City and the southern border between Chiapas and Guatemala, it's about 700 miles (or about 14 hrs non-stop vs. >2 hours by air) Interesting that the place Mau chose to spend the night didn't require any documentation to register.
JudyB--Re Mau & Barbi's tidy apt. Remember that Barbi was trying hard to be a good housewife and attempted seductress. Home all day in an apartment with nothing else to do except cook up some aphrodesiacal recipes.
Describing these strange people is so funny.
If the writters are reading these recaps they must be rolling n crackin up. Girl you are so funny.
"It also should be noted that he has returned to that absolute disaster of a suit he wore many episodes back, that consists of alternating slabs of beige and puke puce topped off by a peach shirt pink tie and maroon vest, pocketed handkerchief. It's a genuine horror. Right up there with Barb's boxing outfits." Lol, what a way to describe someone's ugly Couture. But it fits him. In that plaid suit he looks like a slimy used car salesman.
I said awhile back that mau may not be dario's seed. Hes way too nice a guy to be his son. And so is steff, to be
His daughter.
I really want to know who seb's dad is
Cuz he's a nice young man, that's probly cuz he had papa Juan as a good rollmodel. But now there's about to be some major friction comin up in here.
He's lookin for his bio papa. I don't
Think Leo is all that sick, she just don't want nobody to know she slipped
And fell on somebody's seed sprayer that Wasn't jaun oropeza's. If they don't ask questions she don't have to answer for what she done. Hypocrite in
Fine apparel,Lol.
Barb should let it go. Let lil sister
Have mau and she fine somebody else
That don't mind those horrid outfits she wears.
Dario is just evil. His son deserves
Better than a father WHOES ashamed of his son cuz he's not a lying disgustin
Jerk like he is. Leo should be a shame
Of herself. But y'all know she's not.
One might think she pimped herself out for a shiny new iPhone with all the bells n whistles.
Thank you JudyB♡
We already know who Seb's daddy is. It's not a spoiler. He's Jerome, who came to Mazatlán after a phone call with Leo. He specifically came to meet his son. It's out of regard for Leo and JuanO that he didn't divulge it to Seb. Seb doesn't know who it is, though, only that there is someone out there since his DNA didn't match JuanO's (or was it Xavier's?). Anyway, they are on the trail now.
RGV CHICK....I love that these stories preach the value of forgiveness, because frankly, that is something I struggle with. I have 4 or 5 notebooks on the subject, because I have to keep working at it. It doesn't come easy. But I do agree absolutely that "resentment is useless" as Monica said, and it's much better to move on and enjoy the new day in one's life. And to keep one's heart open.
ANITA...You are so right, Juana Victoria has repeatedly put the kibosh on any kissing or carnal affection, but she seemed to take a sudden left turn yesterday after Estefania announced her decision to pursue a reconciliation. At this point, the only part of the story that interests me is how will Sebastian's true dad be revealed. And what the effect will be on Juan and Leonora's marriage. I do like Leo, in spite of her bad behavior. The actress just always manages to make her lovable IMO.
NINA, NINA...Ooops you did it again! Made me laugh with your "seed sprayer" comment. First time I've ever heard that expression but I keep thinking that you must be absolutely the best CNA in the world because you would keep your patients laughing every day. You always have something creative and hilarious to say.
Boy, do I love this Patio!
Seb had his DNA tested against Juana Victoria's, to see if they really are half-siblings, and results show they share absolutely no DNA at all. The birthmark is all the Juana Pack needed as proof they are JuanO's offspring.
That DNA test was probably the first time in telenovela history that DNA results were not forged, stolen, altered, or otherwise tampered with. #epic
Judy, I can write a recap for either Monday, Thursday, or Friday of this coming week. Right now those are good days for me. Already "life" is happening when I have made other plans. 😜
Just let me know which day you need me.
