La Fea Más Bella #199 1/30/07 Lety gets a party, Marcia gets advice, Tomas gets a job, Alicia gets to eat , and poor Saimon gets played

Caro, with a pensive look on her face, asks Luigi if he means that Lety is now president. Luigi confirms. “That’s why I say that beautiful women want the luck of the ugly.” Aldo asks Luigi why this is so bad. Luigi says yes and begins to talk, but Aldo cuts him off and explains that he means is it such a bad thing that Lety will be president. Luigi replies that Aldo doesn’t know the whole story, but that it’s a real horror story. Caro asks Luigi what happened to the business and why Humberto made such a drastic decision. Luigi tells Caro not to ask him the details because it’s all a rough track because of Fernando. Luigi says he doesn’t very well understand it all. Really, he knows nothing, but he’ll tell her everything he does know. Well, the Platypus (Because all feas look like some animal – Giraffes, Penguins…well…Juana really does kind of look like a penguin at times!) well it came to pass that she disappeared. All of a sudden she reappeared from who knows where something must have bit her because she came back very changed. Aldo smiles as he watches Luigi describe the new Lety. Luigi continues. She has a completely different attitude. I don’t know what she’s thinking about everything but that’s how she came back.
The scene changes to the bar where the Fernando and Saimon decide to socialize. Saimon really likes the bar. He puts on airs and asks the waiter for two whiskies. Fernando doubles back and asks Saimon if it would be okay if they sat first and ordered second. Saimon agrees. Saimon cannot believe that their table is reserved. Apparently, it’s Fernando’s usual table. Saimon sits and then shouts across the room to the waiter to tell him that it’s now okay to bring them two whiskies and one tequila, never mind two tequilas! I’m not really sure how to explain Fernando’s face. It’s between a blank stare and a “I can’t believe I invited this guy look” or maybe even an “I have an idea” look. I guess we’ll find out.
Next we go to the best restaurant in fealand, Le Noir. The three ladies (Alicia, Teresita and Marcia) sit a table. The host seats and greets them. Over-inquisitive-mommy asks Marcia about Fernando. Marcia tells Teresita how Fernando saw Marcia get into the elevator with Lety and decided not to get in with them. “What an uncomfortable situation, Poor Fernando!” Creepy-mommy exclaims! Alicia doesn’t buy the sympathetic tone. This is happening because Fernando was unfaithful. (Funny how sometimes the dumbest characters can say the wisest things.) Alicia thinks that Marcia should have planted a kiss on Fernando right in front of “La Garnacha” to drive her crazy (Gloria explained this term earlier. It doesn’t mean grape, it means an old, used worthless woman.) Marcia tells Alicia she would have felt ridiculous putting up that kind of a fight. The waiter comes to the table and asks what everyone would like to order. Apparently, you don’t get your drinks first in fealand. Teresita wants something light. She want mozzarella with rice (I think) and nothing else. Marcia eats light as well and orders soup. I wonder what Alicia will order. A salad maybe? Alicia orders Palmitos Gratindos. (Gratin Hearts of Palm). I’ve had with chipotle sauce, but here’s a recipe that’s a little different thanks to “The Columbia Record.com:
Gratin of Hearts of Palm (Palmitos Gratinados)
1 cup heavy cream
4 large eggs
1 tablespoon roasted garlic (or 1 large regular finely minced garlic)
1 (16 ounce can hearts of palm, drained, trimmed of any hard rinds, cut into 1/2 inch dice)
8 ounces Westphalian or other smoked ham, in one piece, cut into 1/4-inch dice
2 ripe plum tomatoes, seeded and diced
1 to 3 teaspoons finely chopped cilantro
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In a small heavy saucepan, whisk the cream, eggs and garlic together. Bring to a simmer over medium-low heat and simmer gently for 5 minutes.
Meanwhile, divide the palm hearts among 4 to 6 ramekins. Sprinkle the ham evenly over the tops, then add the tomatoes and cilantro. Gently pour the cooked cream mixture into the ramekins. Arrange the ramekins in a roasting pan, then pour hot tap water around them until it comes halfway up the sides of the ramekins. Bake until the consistency is custard-like, about 30 minutes. Let cool briefly on a wire rack, then un-mold onto serving plates.
Cook's Note: This would be delicious with frozen, thawed artichoke hearts.
The waiter begins to take their menus. Alicia stops him and says that she’s only begun ordering. Secondly, she would like a past dish made with ravioli but with special sauces – one with cheese, one with Raviata (huh?) and the last with spinach and ricotta. She repeats that she just wants something light, since it’s so late. She advises the waiter that later she’ll want dessert. The waiter leaves. Teresita tells Alicia that dinner makes people fat. Too late Teresita. Alicia has moved from lusciously curvy to pleasantly plump about twenty episodes ago. Teresita says that Alicia is going to have to go on a diet. Alicia replies that she has a rigorous diet. She can give Teresita the recipe if she wants it. Work as a secretary at Conceptos and you’ll see how small you become! She’s implying that she’s not paid well enough to eat. Marcia protests and says that Alicia is paid very well. With her salary they could pay three secretaries. Marcia lists off all of Alicia’s bills and forgets that Alicia no longer has a car. Alicia quickly points this out to Marcia. Marcia continues her list and points out that Alicia buys all this stuff without every paying Marcia the money she is owed. Alicia indignantly replies that Marcia never misses an opportunity to rub this in Alicia’s face. Alicia points out all the non-monetary favors that she’s done for Marcia. Marcia sarcastically tells Alicia to talk to Conceptos new president. Marcia is sure the new president will be willing to help! Alicia tells Marcia that she’s really a jokester because Alicia is sure that tomorrow she’ll be fired. Alicia turns to Teresita and advises her that Lety will for sure raise all of the cuartel’s salaries. Alicia thinks it would be better if she just resigned. Alicia asks Teresita if she can imagine what it’s going to be like for Alicia when the cuartel will have all the support of the presidency. There will be six vice presidents! Teresita pets Alicia to comfort her.
We arrive at the classy bar, “the Sanctuary.” PM immediately introduces Lety as their president. The cuartel claps and the door man smiles. The cuartel happily enters the club. I’m not sure why the camera focused on the camera of the couple that looked like they were both constipated, but it did. Anyway, PM jokes with Lety that this isn’t such a nice place to Lety anymore now that she’s the boss of all the bosses. Yup, tomorrow I’m going to become one of the “fine people.” Lety switches subjects and tells PM that she needs to call her home. PM agrees and then exclaims what an amazing place this is; she loves this place! Lety asks for the telephone. Juana stops her before she can follow PM to the phones. She says something about maintenance or supplies. Sorry, that comment lost me.
Back at casa Padilla Erasmo complains that it’s time for Lety to come home and he doesn’t know what the devil they’re staying to do at that damned company. Tomas tells Erasmo to calm himself. They’re probably in a meeting. (Oh, God. Not another meeting! Please, no!) Julieta and Tomas remind Erasmo that Lety is now very important. (Because she wasn’t before?) Erasmo tells Tomas that he doesn’t want to see him. (Yeah, because banning him from your house the last time worked out so well!) The phone rings. Erasmo snatches it from Julieta. It’s Lety on the line and he demands to know where she is. She tells him that she’s in a dump. Erasmo gasps and exclaims that Lety was so cynical when she said that. Lety replies that she’s an adult and that her friends are celebrating with her. “An adult, and this means you’re going to do whatever you want?” he responds. Lety smiles and says of course not. Julieta tells Erasmo to leave Lety in peace. Erasmo accuses her of being Lety’s accomplice. Erasmo returns to the phone and demands to know where Lety is. He’s coming for her at midnight and that’s final! “Just like Cinderella, daddy! Don’t worry, they’ll bring me home.” Erasmo asks which of her friends has a car. Lety reminds Erasmo that Martha’s husband has a taxi and he can come get them. Lety asks for Tomas. Erasmo says that yes, Tomas is there emptying their refrigerator. Erasmo gives a nice little fatherly speech about Lety being an adult and all but she must have respect for Erasmo’s house. (This speech is still as interesting to me at 25 as it was when I was 14.) Lety tells her father that she loves him and asks to speak with Tomas. Erasmo begrudgingly hands over the phone to Tomas. Tomas congratulates Lety about the presidency because it’s perfect for her professional career. He asks her to remember the un-employed. Later, he would like her to sign a recommendation letter. Lety announces to Tomas that she’s named him vice- president of finances. Tomas is left speechless. She asks him to show up to the house tomorrow so they can go in together. Tomas giggles and snorts. He runs around and kisses everyone to celebrate. Tomas announces to the Padillas that he’s now vice-president of finances. He tells Erasmo that he’s going to give him a hat so that whenever Erasmo sees Tomas Erasmo will take off his hat and call Tomas Licenciado Mora. Tomas says that he and Lety need to talk about a lot of stuff, like his new business cards, his agenda and modernize his phone. Tomas asks if Lety is going to need help with her blond friend that has such a nice body. Lety giggles and tells Tomas to just show up tomorrow and to make sure to be well dressed. Tomas agrees and says that he’ll take Lety out to breakfast, lunch and dinner…as long as it’s in Lety’s house since he doesn’t have money. Tomas asks about his salary and changes his mind about food. Now he’ll take her out to wherever Lety would like because Tomas is not going to ask for one glass of water from this house until he dies of hunger. Lety tells Tomas that she’ll see him tomorrow. Tomas tells Lety how much he loves her and hangs up the phone. Julieta applauds. Erasmo’s upset that Tomas didn’t ask about Lety’s location. Tomas isn’t so concerned. Erasmo complains some more about Lety being out. Julieta replies that Lety no longer has to depend on Erasmo. Erasmo catches Tomas taking a drink and asks him about his promise. Tomas reminds Erasmo that he said he wouldn’t take a drink of water and this is milk!
Lety jokes to the cuartel about her father’s attitude towards her. He’ll always think of Lety as his little girl. PM thinks that with Lety’s new salary she should get herself a bachelorette pad. PM thinks they should look tomorrow for a new apartment. It should have a chimney and a large tub! Later they can invite over two handsome young men! Irmita tells PM to shut up. Lety says that she’s very happy living with her parents. Sara comments that she doesn’t know what happened to Lety while she was gone, but she’s come back very different, happy and content. She asks for an explanation. Martha agrees and says Lety has the power of confidence. Lety replies that the change arose out of herself for herself, but it was thanks to a very special person. She owes him. (Because we little women need a man to save us and give us self-confidence, otherwise, we would wallow in a sea of despair.)
Speaking of the very special person, at this very moment he’s defending the committee’s decision in selecting a new president. He excuses himself from the table. Luigi turns to Caro and asks Caro if she’s noticed how much attention Aldo gives Luigi when Luigi speaks. He doesn’t think it’s the story of that platypus that interests Aldo; she’s completely unknown to Aldo. He cooks so well and after speaking with him he’s so attentive and so handsome! Aldo returns with Guillermo whom he introduces to Luigi. Guillermo politely greets Caro. Guillermo apologizes for the delay in meeting Aldo. Aldo says no problem, he’s been receiving information that interests him more. Luigi and Caro glance at Aldo.
At Sanctuary Lety talks some more about everything she learned with her friend. A waiter comes to the seats and PM orders a whole bunch of drinks. The waiter asks if they want anything to eat. Surprisingly, Martha is the first to say no thanks. They all just want to talk to Lety. They’re very interested in this new friend. The cuartel begs (more like demands) to know what has happened with the company. Martha wants to know why Lety left! They heard that Lety did improper things and the have been intrigued by this. Lety says there are confidential things that she really just cannot tell them. She hopes they don’t hope for a lot of information. Sara bites back and says that Lety should even think about leaving them in embers again! Everyone except Irmita threatens that they’ll be mad. Lety nervously smiles.
Saimon enjoys his shots of tequila. He asks Don Ferni why he’s not returning to the presidency. Fernando says the ideal situation right now would be with Lety as the president of Conceptos. Saimon says that everyone is talking about Fernando. Fernando admits that he committed too many errors and he wants to make it clear that he’s paying for them. Fernando says he doesn’t want to talk about this. They’re here to have fun! Saimon disagrees and says he only wants to say one thing to Fernando. With all respect, what an ass you were! Fernando replies. I think he says something along the lines of With all respect, how well you deliver that blow! Saimon laughs and says not so much.
Lety admits that she committed a grave error. She gave Fernando bad advice and this was very bad for the business. The cuartel hangs on her every word. Lola asks why another business, Filmo Imagen, has all of Conceptos’ deposits. Lety replies that this a very delicate thing and that she really cannot tell them about it. PM lets Lety know that the lawyers told the cuartel about the embargo. Irmita chastises the women for interrogating Lety about things that are confidential. They should have more respect. Lety says this is why Fernando had to leave the presidency and why she left Conceptos. Martha points out that something is very odd. “If you were so bad at advising Don Fernando why is it that later they call you to be the president?” Lety scrunches her face.
Aldo tells Guillermo that his project is very complicated but he has a couple ideas to guide him. The project is going to be called “The Flavor of Life.” As Julie would say…Mary Colson-Becker (a cook writer) called; she would like her title back). Guillermo exclaims that it’s perfect and that he’ll help Aldo however he needs to develop the project. Aldo says that’s good, but he’s not sure how long he’ll be in Mexico. Luigi interrupts to ask how it is that Aldo doesn’t know how long he’ll be in Mexico. Where’s he going. Caro says that Aldo lives in Acapulco. Luigi cannot believe it. Aldo says this shouldn’t be a problem. Luigi says that Aldo should not be so far away from his producers/directors. Aldo replies that he could go to India – he’s only going to be a three and a half hour drive away. Luigi offers his advice as a director. Luigi says that he needs Aldo close to him. Guillermo asks if Luigi if he’s really a director. Caro says that Luigi is the best with a prize from Cannes; he’s the creative director at Conceptos. Guillermo says that this is incredible because he was going to look for an advisor with a relationship with the media. Luigi says that this is Guillermo’s lucky day. Luigi believes in coincidences and he thinks Guillermo is talking to the perfect person (Luigi) for the project to advise Aldo.
Saimon orders some more whiskies because Fernando is really heating up. He turns to Fernando and asks what he just said. Fernando replies that he didn’t say anything. Saimon pushes Fernando out of his chair and then tells Fernando to be careful. Saimon tells Fernando that he will have all of Saimon’s unconditional support. Now that Saimon’s drunk, Fernando slyly interjects a comment about Lety.
The women toast each other. The girls go on about the people at work. Lety says that certain things were cleared up and she wasn’t at fault for everything. For the benefit of the banks they decided it would be better if Lety “drove” the business for a while. Irmita says she’s not surprised that Lety came back so triumphant; she’s so capable. Lola agrees and says Lety was always the president of Conceptos, but with the salary of an assistant. Some men come over and ask PM to dance. At first, Irmita thinks he’s talking to her, but he politely corrects her. PM says she’ll dance with him. Another gentleman asks Lety to dance. She smiles but doesn’t answer.
Saimon protests and says that he doesn’t have anything against Lety. Never mind, he does hold something against her. Saimon’s scared. Fernando doesn’t understand. He’s scared of what she could generate in the rest of the cuartel. Saimon reminds all the nice things Lety’s “boyfriend” (meaning Tomas) did for her. Fernando gets what Saimon is saying. (Good thing, because I’m lost.) He giggles through his line, but figures out that Saimon is implying that Lety will corrupt PM. Nope, Saimon meant the opposite. This response does not get Fernando’s happy face. He sucks down his water like he hoped it was a whiskey.
Lety asks the man if he’s sure if he wants to dance with her. He confirms. She asks him why he wants to dance with her. He replies that he can tell that she’s fun and he wants to have fun. Sara says that Lety is the most fun. The guy asks again to dance. Lety says she’s not accustomed to being asked to dance. She thanks him. PM gets up and tries to dance with her guy, but the cuartel tries to stop her. Irmita and the cuartel argue about all the questions they’ve been asking Lety. PM tells her man that they’ll dance in a minute after they cover these little details. They say they’ll return for the ladies. PM wants to end the interrogatory.
Fernando wants to know if Saimon thinks that the cuartel is out picking up men. Saimon stumbles around the answer. Fernando says it’s not possible that they’re out late because they have to arrive early to the office tomorrow. A woman comes over to the table and greets Fernando. Saimon pops out of his chair and offers it to the lady. He tells the woman to “sit down” but Fernando grabs her hand and tells her to “stand up.” He reminds Saimon that they’re having a private conversation between men. Saimon seats her again. Fernando makes her stand. Saimon says maybe another occasion. The woman haughtily leaves. Saimon half follows until Fernando seduces him back to the table with whiskey and tequila. Saimon exclaims that Fernando attracts women like a bee to a honeycomb. Saimon thinks about what PM is doing in this moment. He needs to talk to her. Fernando agrees, while obviously thinking about Lety. They both hug themselves while Saimon continues about needing his woman. Fernando asks if Saimon really wants to know what his “little doll” is doing. Saimon says yes. (I think we’re finally getting to the point of this whole let’s take Saimon drinking game!) Saimon asks if Fernando does too. Fernando says yes he does.
Aldo tells Luigi that he’s not capable of answering so many questions. They agree that they will become a team on this project. Luigi recommends that Aldo should be near him. They have to be a team. It would be impossible if they’re far apart. Luigi will get Aldo an office at Conceptos. Caro remarks that this proposal should make Aldo pleased like a ring on a finger. Aldo smiles.
Fernando says that he’s going to demonstrate to Saimon how much he respects him. Saimon thinks Fernando is going to give him a raise. Fernando says no; he’s going to take Saimon to PM. Saimon says that Fernando is a better president than ex-president. Ooops! He meant Fernando’s a better ex-president than president! Fernando wants to get going. Saimon understands and takes off for the door. Fernando shouts after him. He asks Saimon where he’s going. Saimon says to look for… Fernando says he didn’t say it was time to go. They have to look up The Sanctuary in a directory. Fernando will accompany Saimon to look for PM and Let…the rest of the cuartel. Don’t leave. Saimon asks if they need a dictionary. No, a directory. Saimon shouts that they need a directory to anyone who will listen. Fernando looks as tired as I feel. He says to himself that Marcia’s going to kill him but he must see Lety.
Sara digs for information about what Lety’s dad will be doing and why Erasmo spoke with Humberto Mendiola. Juana asks about Tomas Mora. Lety explains that after Lety left Conceptos she sent Tomas who sent the lawyers. After that, her father went to Conceptos and later she arrived at Conceptos because the committee called her to return. PM calls her out and wants to know what’s really going on. The cuartel starts with its questions about the lawyers. Irmita comes to the rescue and ends the interrogation. Martha “changes” the subject. What did Lety have to do with the cancellation of Marcia’s wedding?
Luigi says he’s getting drunk. He asks Aldo if he’s going to accept Luigi’s offer. Guillermo advises Aldo to accept. Aldo accepts. The whole table toasts. Luigi says they’ll start the project tomorrow. Luigi will prepare an exquisite space for Aldo. Luigi wants to make it sure that this project will have nothing to do with Conceptos, because everything is pretty much going to hell. Aldo says something about not abandoning the construction of his restaurant and his book that he’s writing. Luigi calls Aldo a Pandora’s Box. He wants to know about the book. Is it a book about love. Aldo agrees and says it’s about love. It’s called “The Flavor of Life.” I suppose Aldo would like to change his and Lety’s names to “The Flavor of Life.” Luigi seductively fans himself.
Lety answers that no one knows why one falls in love or falls out of love. It’s a mystery and Lety doesn’t know what happened in the hearts of Fernando and Marcia. The cuartel needs to ask them. Juana complains that Lety is talking about philosophy. Sara thinks the cancellation had something to do with what happened in the boardroom. The cuartel gives some more theories and Lola exclaims that a woman would never return to a man who left her in the street. Juana stops all conversation when she says that she’s sure the wedding was cancelled because of another woman. Marcia guesses that the other woman must be gone, because Marcia would never accept something like that. Juana says that Marcia has always pardoned Fernando for his everything he did. Lety interjects into the conversation and asks how long it took Fernando and Marcia to reconcile after cancelling the wedding. “Faster than a rooster can crow,” Irmita replies. (o sea “faster than a chicken can sing”) “How beautiful,” Lety responds. The cuartel imitates the affection between Marcia and Fernando. Are they watching the same couple we are? PM is sure that Marcia seduced him, took him to bed and accepted his pardon. Lety stares off into space. The cuartel are sure that those two will get married. Juana comments that if Marcia doesn’t marry Fernando the least worse thing that could happen would be Marcia’s dying. Irmita says that Marcia and Fernando are like any other pair with all their problems, but they love each other. If they marry, it will be happy because they fought for their love. Everyone toasts. Lety holds back tears.
Back at La Noir, everyone eats. Marcia tells Over-Inquisitive-Mommy that Lety almost died when she was told by Marcia that Marcia and Fernando were together again. Teresita can’t believe that Lety didn’t already know. Marcia said she was surprised about that as well. She thought Lety had contact with the cuartel while she was gone. Alicia thinks that Lety returned to see Fernando but Marcia said it seemed as though Lety did not want to see Fernando. Teresita thinks that Lety must still love Fernando. Marcia has an observant moment and says that Lety is convinced that Fernando played her and used her. Marcia says that Lety still has the memory of the letter and doesn’t think that Fernando loves her. Alicia thinks that Fernando is still in love with Lety. No, Teresita thinks it’s that he’s surprised to see her with such confidence. Nope, Alicia says she’s still ugly and the same. Marcia says that if Fernando fell in love with Lety it was for some reason, and she could tell he was impactado when he saw her. Alicia says she was also impactado, with fright! Teresita says it seems dangerous to have these two talk. Marcia agrees and says it is dangerous, but it would be very difficult for Fernando to convince Lety that the letter is a lie. The letter was too cruel for Lety ever to begin to believe him again. Teresita still thinks it’s important to keep Fernando far from Lety.

Thanks so much for the super quick recap Amanda!

I thought a lot of tonight's filler was boring. Fern and Simon seemed to go on forever, the feas in the club were annoying, and Marcia and Mama T. were extremely witchy.

I liked Tomas getting the VP job and Alicia ordering all the food. Mama and Marcia were even snotty to Alicia.

Time drags on but maybe tomorrow Fern and Lety might actually have a conversation???????

I was SO ANNOYED that Aldo didn't punch Luigi! I was hoping for it all day! Oh well, that's restraint for you.

Your recipe sounds delicious.

Melinama, I was going to say the exact same thing! You have been the most vocal Aldo fan, but you have to agree that he let Lety down today.

Thanks for the thorough recap Amanda.

I agree it was pretty much a filler episode, but I liked the scenes between Siamon and Ferni, and not just because they had Jaime in them. I thought they were pretty funny. Also, did you notice that Fer had nothing stronger than water to drink. Or, at least it looked that way to me.

So now Aldo is going to be at Conceptos. Seems a little contrived, but I suppose they need to keep an obstacle in the way of Lety and Fer reuniting. Oh well, I think Aldo's fashion attire will fit in nicely w/ the loose dress code at Conceptos.

I loved, loved, loved the preview for tonight's episode. I will be thinking about it all day. I don't know if I'll get any work done.

Aldo has some serious crow's feet around his eyes. He needs a little nip/tuck. Fernando needs a backbone transplant. Omar needs a brain. Marcia, Alicia, Luigi & Teresita need a heart.
Thanks for the quck recap Amanda.
You know, I used to rely on my Spanish speaking co-workers to translate the episodes for me. Now they ask me what's going on , all because of these teriffic recaps.
Thanks again.

I think Tuesday's show was awful. It gets tiresome after awhile, seeing Fern with his constant drinking. It is taking away from his sexy image, or was a sexy image. And Lety on the phone for two commercial times, yakking with her family. I am starting to actually lose interest in this novela because of the drinking and because of whole hours at a time being wasted. At least give something in the hour.

Maybe I didn't point it out, but Fernando only drank water at the bar. Saimon kept ordering for two, and then he drank for two.

Yeah, I don't get why Aldo didn't stand up for Lety. Maybe because she wasn't around to see it. (Sorry, I know I'm such a cynic when it comes to Aldo!)

Thanks for the super recap.

I had hoped that Aldo would whack Luigi in head for his rotten comments about Lety, but Aldo's restraint just enabled him to fall into a sweet situation--an office at Conceptos so he can be near Lety. Luigi doesn't have a clue as to what he just did for Aldo. Caro, too, was sly and encouraged Luigi to babble on. Wonder how Aldo will break the news to Luigi that he's not interested in him. I'm sure Aldo will bide his time in getting even with Luigi for those rotten comments about "his" Lety. For Aldo...all things happen in their own time. I still like Aldo--white jacket and all.

I don't like aldo; however, I think he did not say anything about luigi's comments because he wanted to see the shocked look on his face when he sees Aldo and Lety as good friends and Aldo's feelings towards Lety. Sort of a passive agressive approach???

>>"Yeah, I don't get why Aldo didn't stand up for Lety. Maybe because she wasn't around to see it. (Sorry, I know I'm such a cynic when it comes to Aldo!)"

Well said Amanda!!! You are so right on!! He does seem to need an audience and Caro wasn't apparently good enough. Also, I'm glad you backed me up on the Fernando drinking water thing. That's what I saw too, that Simon was ordering for both of them and drinking for both of them. In fact, the scene where Fernando guzzled the water (holding onto the glass w/ two fists) really cracked me up. I think he might be changing his drinking ways. What a relief!!

As for Aldo seeming passive aggressive, it could very well be. However, I will look forward to the scenes when Luigi learns of Aldo and Lety's friendship. Definitely will get a good laugh out of that.

So now, I'm just waiting for tonight's episode.......

I was happy to see Fern was only drinking water. Now if he can develop more courage to stand up to Marcia and Mama he will have come a long way.
I'm not an Aldo fan but I suppose maybe clobbering Luigi just isn't in his nature. I'd really like to see him get angry and defend Lety but I don't see it happening.
Maybe that's why Fern is more appealing. He's passionate and would have given Luigi a good tongue lashing!
I don't see the point of the Luigi interest but I guess it gives Luigi something to do other than yell at the models or insult the feas.

Carrie L.

Cathy
good point

Yeah, I don't get why Aldo didn't stand up for Lety. Maybe because she wasn't around to see it. (Sorry, I know I'm such a cynic when it comes to Aldo!)"

Now that's what I'm talking about Omar would never stick up for Lety even if she was around to hear it...Ha

Amanda, thanks for the recap. There was a lot of babbling to deal with in this episode. Luigi's attraction for Aldo is probably a setup so Luigi can take a hard fall and puncture his sublime egotism. Perhaps Aldo held back right now because he's still feeling his way with all his projects--the book, the restaurant, the Lety love.
Fern was such a sneaky guy, playing off his desperate need to see Lety and using Simon as a trojan horse to meet up with Lety and las feas.

Amanda, terrific recap with great details, and FAST! Thanks!

I think Aldo is just biding his time, so Luigi can dig himself in really deep, and then Aldo is going to let him have it with the most solid public "punch" he can come up with. Perhaps it won't be a literal punch, but it will be a punch and Luigi will be publicly humiliated. Aldo can see right through Luigi (on all counts, he knows he's being hit on), and he knows instinctively that no defense of Lety will change this self-absorbed creature's mind. So, he's thrown out his fishing line and is letting Luigi get the hook tightly in his mouth. It's sort of like Lety putting the letters into Omar's and Fern's folders at the BIG junta before Christmas. Luigi is going to be busted.

That's my two cents' worth! I am dying because I have to go to a dinner meeting tonight out of town and won't see it until tomorrow, probably right before tomorrow's episode. AAAARGH!

Jeanne

Is it just me, or did Saimon and Fern go to the same antro where Fern last met Psychic Guy? The name (Placide?) looked familiar. And speaking of Psychic Guy, whose name is Jorge Flores, I noticed that same name in the ending credits of Duelo de pasiones. A little in-joke on the part of Univision?

Anyway, what's the deal with Caro? She had an opportunity to tell Luigi that Aldo isn't gay. Why didn't she do it? And why did Aldo just sit there while Luigi insulted Lety? Was he so flattered by Luigi making goo-goo eyes at him that the insults only registered for a second? I'm not liking Aldo so much anymore.

Re Fernando's prayer by the elevator Monday night, what he said was something like: "I hope they don't say a word to each other. Not a word. I hope they don't even turn to look at each other."

Maybe Caro was playing along with Aldo. She was always pleasant to Luigi, but never seemed overcome with his greatness. As Jeanne said, they're letting Luigi take the bait. At some point, he will be totally humiliated to realize that Aldo prefers Lety's fea self to all his hotness. There won't be enough valarian in the entire DF to cure that hissy fit!

Anonymous 11:26--

Well said!

;-)

Yeah. There's really no point in telling Luigi that somebody isn't gay, anyway, because he never believes it.

At first I was disappointed in Aldo's apparent non-reaction but realized he was just waiting for the right moment. How sweet it will be when Luigi discovers that his favorite new client is a Lety fan.

I was only bluffing last week when I said Guillermo was hot. I hadn't gotten a good look at him yet. Now I know he's hot. As for Aldo's crow's feet, I like those too. Still don't like the chicken legs or the dog collar, but I do like his face.

One funny or ironic note: when Luigi was asking about Aldo's book, he said "I'm sure it's not a thriller..." LOL, Luigi, you got that right!

Interesting that so many people think that Aldo is waiting to publicly humiliate Luigi for his comments. That does NOT make Aldo a nice man in my opinion and I already didn't like him. In any event if he were a real gentleman he could easily have indicated that Luigi's nasty comments about any woman weren't acceptable to him without tipping him off to his relationship with Lety.

Loved Fern swigging back water while Saiman is getting obnoxiously loaded. It was obvious that the woman knew Fern and he continues to indicate that he is not interested in anyone other than Lety, except for his disastrous weak moment in going back to Marcia.

Speaking of Marcia how much more desperate can she be. She knows deep down that Fern loves Lety and seemed to have forgotten that marking my territory kiss at the elevator. If Fern needs a backbone to tell her and his parents to get stuffed, she needs one to stop hanging onto a man and a onesided dream.

I really don't care much for the feas. The seem to live for gossip and never even noticed that they were sticking a knife in Lety's heart with a lot of misinformation. As someone posted before with friends like this who needs enemies. And, PM wanting to fix Lety up with a pad ugh - you'd think these women would know Lety better than that.

I find it extremely interesting that everyone with the exception of Fern and Robopop have notcied the difference in Lety. Robopop will never see the change because she will always be his baby girl and Fern didn't see it because he sees her as perfect and probably always thought her strong and capable.

We should be in for a lot of laughs and drama when Aldo moves into Conceptos and discovers who Fern is and vice versa and Alicia's days of queening over everyone should come to a screeching halt when VP of Finance Tomas Mora appears. Looks like Omar is out of a job.

Those previews have me counting the hours. Looks like plenty of heartache ahead.

I too am totally disappointed in Aldo and I'm in the Lety w/ Fern club. I really expected him to sock Luigi after his comments especially since he's claimed Lety already a few times. Although the rational part of me does say that Aldo is just waiting for the right If Fern was there he hopefully would have defended her (he did before).

Cathy, I too noticed Fern only drank water although a few times he guzzled that water like it was something stronger.

I wouldn't assume that Aldo wants to humiliate Luigi publicly. Luigi is the one whose behavior is consistently rude, yet he is never embarrassed even when other people tell him to cool it. So, the most Aldo can hope to get out of Luigi is a surprised look... and why not save that special moment for when Lety's around to enjoy it as well?

Nevertheless, there's a fine line between a "support system" and a crutch. I don't know how good it will be for Lety to have Aldo around all the time.

BTW, from the previews last night it looks like it might be a good time to have some ice cream handy. I have a pint of Häagen-Dazs Mayan Chocolate in the freezer. (I sampled it last night to make sure it was of the highest quality.)

I am looking forward to "tomorrow" when Lety's new job begins, but since last night's episode didn't even cover an hour's worth of real time, I don't even know when the next day will start. And since they have an appointment with the judge first, that could be a whole episode right there... arghhhh... I do wish the pace did not have to be so glacial...

PS - I can't stand the feas as a giggling gang of gossips either. I like them a lot better individually (except for PM, who I can't stand), but I usually FF through the group scenes.

BTW, I was just thinking - is Juana ever going to get any sort of storyline or character development at all?

I think Aldo showed us his true colors last night.
I don't like him, but I must say I was expecting him to defend Lety. If he professes to love her, he should have defended her right away. He would n't even had to have made a scene. (Although that would have been entertaining.) He could have defended her in a calm manner. But he did nothing. I think that says a lot about him.
As far as him waiting until a later time to defend Lety to Luigi, unless I completely missed something, Aldo did not know he was going to go into any kind of business arrangement with Luigi when Luigi first sat down and started insulting Lety, did he? So it’s not like he knew there would be another time to address the comments.
I also think it is kind of creepy/stalkerish for him to be taking an office at Conceptos. He has a lap-top. He could work from home (or wherever he is staying) and meet Luigi offsite. But, I guess he’ll want to be in Lety’s workplace so he can give her strength and guru messages. Does he really think she needs her work and personal worlds colliding any more?

Thanks Amanda! Man, I was watching all the colloquiallisms in all those three separate informal conversations (Cuartel, Wicked Witches of the DF, and the Swingers) thinking I was glad I didn't have to recap them! (though I fear there will be more tonight...ugh)

Anyway, y'all I'm going to stick up for Aldo, just because. Though I noticed he didn't say anything about "feaita", I figured at this stage his character's point of view is simply that of observer; he's not going to blow that he already knows Lety, but rather he wants to get the scoop of what others around her are like or think, to get more clues about her. He wants to understand her world better and right now, Aldo is creeping slowly into Lety's world. Before Lety jumped into Aldo's world, so I think we were on different playing fields, and existential Aldo, is not dumb to that. If he taints that by challenging comments or other opinions, or somehow letting on that he already knows her, a) he's blowing her secret of what she was up to while away, and b) he's interfering with her world in a place he agreed he wouldn't go yet. I bet as his time at Conceptos unfolds there will be a much more climactic interaction to come - why would the writers spoil it so early in the introductions to these people.

Besides in polite dinner conversation with strangers, do you really get in to that kind of stuff any way, that a supposed unknown woman shouldn't be called fea, and this guy who can speak for himself isn't gay by the way, in case you were hitting on him in front of me?

I'm sure Aldo is just observing what kind of shallow guy Luigi is so he knows how to handle him in the future when it really matters. And as for Caro, really it's not her business to announce to Luigi or anyone else that Aldo is or isn't gay. Aldo can take care of himself, and it wouldn't be polite for her to assume anything about anyone or to interfere. Besides, bottom line, I think they are meant to be intending to shallowly have fun with Luigi at his expense and they'll have their caucus eventually. It makes for a funny subplot, I'm sure!

Maybe Aldo didn't slug Luigi for the same reason that Fernando didn't way back when - "You don't hit women." Maybe Sara will go to town on him for us since neither of the boys seems likely to.
Marcia and Mama T are delusional if they really think that there's a way to keep Fernando from even speaking to Lety. They (Fern & Lety) are both at Conceptos for 6 months to clean up the mess, from just a business standpoint, they're going to have to talk to each other at least occasionally. And I'm seriously bugged by the way Mama T gives absolutely no credit to Fernando's feelings, just because they don't fit in with her plans for la gran boda. What a stupid, callous woman.
I think the cuartel would be more careful about what they say about Fernando if they had any idea how Lety feels about him. As it is, they still think Tomas is Lety's novio, so Fern and Marcia are fair game for chisme.

>>>PS - I can't stand the feas as a giggling gang of gossips either.

I agree julie, where they nosy or what?! Tell us what happened, why suspicious isn't it that Fern and Marcia break up wedding just when you leave, etc. I am glad my friends aren't like that, I don't know if I could take it. I agree that they didn't make Lety feel all that great, all their comments regarding Fern & Marcia being in love made her cry. Pobrecita, I hope today's episode is better and not so draggy

"BTW, I was just thinking - is Juana ever going to get any sort of storyline or character development at all? "

Yeah, what about that? And whatever happened to her psychic powers? Have they been usurped by Jorge?

Wow, it was not easy, but I found raviata sauce mentioned in an online review of a restaurant. It's described as a tomato-cream sauce. I don't know if it's like a vodka sauce, or if it's more like the French sauce crème aurore which is basically a bechamel with tomato paste and nutmeg. Anyway, it sounds good. :-)

Julie, Haagen Daszs (any flavor) is my absolute favorite ice cream! Strohs carmel nut is really good too but in my fridge I only have a fruit sherbert. I think I better make a trip to the store, tonight looks like a serious ice cream night.

It's funny how we Fern lovers never like anything (much) that Aldo does and vice versa with the Aldo lovers camp.
I guess that's what makes this web site so much fun is everyone's mixed opinions.

It seems we all agree Ariel is a snake and Luigi, Marcia, Alicia, and Helmet are totally obnoxious.

I thought maybe Luigi would go for the business associate of Aldo's but he didn't seem interested.

I couldn't quite read Aldo when Luigi was carrying on but I was disappointed he didn't stick up for the woman he is suppose to love.

Hummmm....very interesting comments. It is interesting to see how many of you forgive Fernando for his underhanded deeds concerning Lety and yet you condem Aldo for not speaking up in front of Luigi. Aldo's inaction hardly compares to Fernando's despicable actions. Why didn't Fernando speak up for Lety in the meeting when Luigi & Alicia were insulting Lety? Does he need an audience too for his words to count? He had a chance to slam them both but because Marcia and Mamma where there he chickened out. No spine yet for Ferni.

You guys are too hard on Aldo and way too forgiving of Fernando. Yes, Fern is the hero of the story, but as someone pointed out, a very weak-willed hero.

Aldo still shines more brightly than Fernando in thoughts and deeds.

Ugghhh...the cuartel. I don't mind them so much individually just like Julie said (my exception is Juana). They're way too nosy. Irmita seems to be the only one who makes any sense.

Julie - I tried "salsa rabiata" and came up with a recipe that calls for olive oil, tomato, garlic, parsley, chili (guindilla), and julienned ham. A variation of the classic Italian pasta all'arrabbiata, o sea, angry pasta.

I think the point of all Alicia's menu selections was that they are very heavy, caloric foods.

When it comes to food, I prefer more specifics. :-)

"Hummmm....very interesting comments. It is interesting to see how many of you forgive Fernando for his underhanded deeds concerning Lety and yet you condem Aldo for not speaking up in front of Luigi"

That is because we expect more from Aldo that from Fer. We already know Fernando to be weak, and we know he is working hard to grow a spine, but Aldo, he is supposed to be this shining example of the perfect man, and let me tell you, the perfect man defends his woman. (He has claimed Lety as his, a couple of times)
Maricruz

Aldo won't be telling Luigi off..He'll be too busy telling Lety how much she's been wronged by Fernando and worming in way into Conceptos,as the second coming of "Elvis" dressed in enough polyester to start a bonfire, should he walk too fast..Mo

Very forgiving of Fernando.Maureen

Maricruz--I think Aldo will defend Lety. He's just waiting for the right time. Revenge is a dish best served cold. I was let down too that he didn't immediately decapitate Luigi, but thought later he might have something more spectacular planned one. At least I hope so. Caro is Lety's friend and she didn't speak up either.

I agree with the earlier post by "k". Aldo is getting a feel for Lety's world and the people in it. It would have been unwise for him to reveal himself too soon. He was actually protecting Lety by keeping silent. He would have blown her cover about where she had been and who she'd been with.

The saying goes.. "revenge is a dish, best served cold"... which simply means that acting in the heat of the moment will not always give the best results.

Only by taking one's time to calculate the most effective course of revenge, can the optimum amount of payback be gained.

Would someone please explain two words I keep hearing?
- What does "Licenciado " mean, since Lety was introduced this week with this title and now Tomas has been
- What exactly does "embargo" mean in the context of these episodes. (Lien? bankruptcy? debt?)
Thanks!

Whether or not Aldo defended Lety, I still find it unattractive that Aldo would sit by and let Luigi insult any woman much less one he claims to love. All he had to do was tell Luigi that he didn't appreciate men talking in such a disparaging way about women. A real man would have.

Janet

We forgive Ferni because he is Lety's true heart's desire. (Not to mention the one she has all the chemistry with.)
Of course, he needs to grow and make some changes before they can be together. But the whole point of the story is, although the relationship starts out with bad intentions, as time goes by he ends up falling in love with her.

Everyone is wondering why Aldo didn't stand up for Leti to Luigi. Well, why didn't Caro do it? She is Leti's friend too. It will be most interesting when Luigi finds out that both Aldo and Caro are friends of Leti. I think Aldo will try some of his "higher level" thinking on Luigi to make him think differently of Leti. I can't wait to see who Leti down-sizes at Conceptos!

Interesting post about Aldo trying to get a feel for Lety's world. I'm far more worldly than Lety and a man like Aldo would terrify me. Her strikes up a very quick friendship with her on vacation. OK nothing wrong there. Then on the strength of a couple of tepid kisses decides he is madly in love with her. He has already made her dependant on his advice. He then follows her to the DF and shows up at her place of work. He pumps her friend for information and than accepts an offer to have an office in her company. In my world that is stalking behavior. If this part were being played by anyone other than a novela pretty boy galan he would be despised by everyone.

Oh and didn't anyone else find it strange that Luigi accepts work outside of Conceptos, the company he works for, and then offers someone office space. Lots of conflict of interest there but than again Luigi is "in love".

Cassie

I tend to agree with Janet. It isn't a matter of Aldo or Caro defending Lety. Aldo should have been offended that anyone would talking badly about a woman in front of people he doesn't know especially considering that Caro was there. He just doesn't look much like a white knight to me.

OMG!!! You are too funny Mo with your description of Aldo as the "second coming of "Elvis" dressed in enough polyester to start a bonfire, should he walk too fast." He does have horrid clothing.

Cassie---My niece was watching the show w/ me the other day and I was introducing the characters and when Aldo came on I said "That's Aldo, we don't like him." When she asked why, I told her it was because he is a stalker. I've been calling him that for the past few weeks. It is really creepy that he's taken this, what should have been a vacation thing--one lacking completely in passion, too far. I cannot believe he followed her to the DF.

As far as his not defending Lety, that's not my biggest complaint against the guy. I am sure he was just trying to sort out everything before he chewed out a virtual stranger. And come on, he has such an ego that he probably didn't want to insult Luigi because then Luigi might stop flirting with him. (OK, that was my obligatory Aldo dig for the day).

Still waiting for tonight's episode......

Luigi has done other freelance jobs in the past, but I thought his offer for office space was mostly a plot device to get Aldo more airtime at Conceptos...more friction.

The feas are getting out of hand, but I loved when Irmita basically told PM to shut up!

Can't wait for tonight! The long awaited reunion between Fern & Lety (6 weeks in the making) is about to happen! I hope.........this day is lasting forever!

Jewels - AMEN!

To answer your questions as best I can:

"Licenciado" has no direct translation to English. It's a sign of respect shown to people who hold a position of power for which they would have to have a license or degree to hold.

The embargo is being used in the context of a lien. Filmo Imagen has a lien on Conceptos.

I hope this helps!

POR FAVOR SAIMON stop with the cry-talking. I can't handle it. He is so unmasculine to me when he does this. Make him stop.

Anonymous 10:40-- Simon can also stop saying "Bueno, bueno, bueno" rapidamente any time now. The sooner the better, IMO. I want to shake the boy every time I hear it, and I think Fern does as well.

Jeanne

Anonymous, I agree about Saimon. Everything he does annoys me. I cringe when he comes onscreen.

About Aldo, while I think he is a needy person who doesn't deeply love Lety the way Fernando does, I can't blame him for not attacking Luigi. Personally, I try to never argue with someone I don't know very, very well. Instead I just listen and marvel at the way people will dig their own graves (at least as far as my respect is concerned) with their big, stupid mouths.

Even Fernando never stood up for Lety, even in private with his best friend Omar, till very recently. Fernando is easier to forgive because he's so gorgeous and we know he adores Lety, but the man has treated her terribly. (And Marcia, too -- why is he stringing her along now??)

Amanda,
Thank you so much for the definitions!
