La Fea Más Bella #199-200 2/4/11 Lety Ver 2.0. The Immovable Object.

Capitulo 199.
Read Amanda’s original recap, then come back here to discuss it.

La Candelaria. Luigi tells Caro and Aldo that all he knows is that Lety is president, she went who-knows-where, and she came back completely different. Aldo is highly amused. When Aldo is away from the table, Lui tells Caro he’s sure Aldo is interested in him. Gui says they’re looking for someone with Luigi’s skills for their project. Luigi assures them he’s their man, but he would need to work very closely with Aldo so he needs to provide him an office at Conceptos.

El Santuario. Lety calls home and tells Pop that she’s in an antro and reminds him she’s an adult. She brushes off his curfew. She informs Tom that he’s her new VP of Finance.

The cuartel comments on Lety’s transformation, and Lety says a special friend helped her. They order her to tell them why she left Conceptos, how she became president, etc. She can’t talk about it. Irmita stops the interrogation; they’re here to celebrate. Two guys come to the table; I’ll pick names for them. Butch asks Paula to dance and Chuck asks Lety. (Actually Chuck seems like a nice enough guy.) The cuartel speculates that the wedding was canceled because of another woman, and they speculate more about the couple, while Lety controls her face and suffers.

Placide. Saimon worries that Paula and Lety are out picking up men. Fernando takes a slug of water for courage. Fernando mirrors Saimon who pines for his princess and has a burning desire to talk to her. He tells Saimon that he’ll take him to find Paula. He tells himself that Marcia will kill him, but he has to see Lety. He can’t take it anymore.

Le Noir. Marcia says Lety doesn’t want to see Fernando. MamaT says Lety still loves him. Marcia agrees, but Lety believes the letter and is sure he just used her; she won’t be able to trust him again. She has no idea he fell in love. Alicia butts in that he still loves Lety (with friends like Alicia..). Ali points out Lety’s ugliness, but Marcia can’t avoid the fact that Fern fell in love with her, and he was shaken up when he saw her. MamaT stresses that they have to keep Fern far away from Lety.

Capitulo 200.
Read K-Fuego’s original recap, then come back here to discuss it.

1. At El Santuario, Saimon expresses all the anxiety Fern is feeling.

2. Marcia concludes that Lety believes Fern can’t stand her, and he can’t prove that he loves her. Other than Omar, only the three of them know, and they won’t tell. Lety promised she wouldn’t repeat the past, but Ali asks, “what if Fern goes to Lety?”

3. Chuck sits next to Lety and asks her to dance again. Fern steps up. “Buenas noches.” Lety gets self conscious because Fernando sees Chuck’s arm around her chair. Fern claims he came to bring Saimon. Saimon tries to counter that was Fern’s idea, and Fern shushes him.

4. Saimon sees Paula dancing with Butch and makes a scene. Lety asks for the check, but Chuck asks her not to leave and tells her, “Don’t be so crabby.” Oopsie! Fernando gets in Chuck’s face and does what he does best, what won Lety’s love on Day One: he defends Lety. Lety gazes at him like the old days. Fern almost kisses her spontaneously, but then they remember those days are gone. Saimon roughs up Butch and loudly breaks up with Paula.

5. Fernando begs Lety for a chance to talk. See the transcript. He hits all his most important points and gets nowhere, but at least she’s heard him. This was his first encounter with New Lety, the Immovable Object. Marcia calls with the same interrogation as in the old days.

6. Aldo tells Luigi that what’s ugly is how he talks about people. Luigi’s all atwitter for Aldo.

7. Pop says Mama says he has to change too. But she still has to follow his rules (normas: more like policies than laws). He can’t sleep until she’s home safely. Lety briefs Mama that Fern said he’s changed and he still loves her. Mama says, “Maybe? Just maybe?” Lety nixes that idea. He just did it for the company.

8. Fern goes to his dungeon and ponders to himself, “I lost her forever.” His jailer is worshiping at the shrine of the wedding dress. They’ve already fallen back into their old roles of oppressor and liar. She says his mother worries about what he’ll do since Lety returned. He says she’s not the same Lety as before. He’s given up on getting back with her.

9. Lety ponders, that Fernando’s look and his voice made her heart beat like crazy.

Spanish Lesson: El Santuario.
I haven't posted a transcript in a long time. I know that Kris posted most of this dialog, and in fact I used her wording in a few places. But Fernando's plea was so moving, I couldn't resist. I just had to post it. For those of you useing Fea to learn Spanish, this "Spanish Lesson" provides a good learning tool. Watch the scene with the transcript in hand, and try to understand how the characters' words match the English translation.

F: Lety, I need to talk to you.
L: I’m sorry. I don’t want them to wait for me.
F: It’s just for a moment.
Cuartel: Talk to him. Don’t be rude. We’ll wait for you.
F: Lety, since you left Conceptos we haven’t been able to speak.
L: We have nothing to say to each other anymore.
F: NO on the contrary. Quedaron cosas pendientes (there are still things left over). Very important things to clear up. Believe me, I’ve waited for this moment with great emotion.
L: You came to accompany Simon, not to talk to me.
F: No, I came with Simon because I knew you would be here. There are many things that I want to tell you about the letter you read. As you well know, I didn’t write it.
L: No, you didn’t write any of those cards you gave me either. I know those phrases of love weren’t yours..
F: It’s not like that.
L: Look, you don’t need to do this. Your business is saved and when the debts are paid off I’ll return it. You don’t have reason to give me any explanations, besides I didn’t ask for any.
She starts to leave. He takes hold of her arm. Their faces are close. Their faces are drawn closer.
F: No te me XG. Please.
L: Wrong. Very wrong, Don Fernando. It’s very wrong to me (me parece muy mal) because I don’t want to talk to you anymore.
F: I know you hate me. And forgive me for touching you. I understand everything you feel against me
but we are going to be together for six months.
L: No, no we’ll only see each other when there’s a committee meeting and that’s how it will stay.
F: No I can’t be so far from you, um, the company. Nor do I intend to stand here doing nothing (with my arms crossed). It’s that I, um, Conceptos..
L: Look. Tell me what you want from me. (Digame. Tú form.)
F: I know it’s hard. But I don’t want you to hate me. I’m aware of my errors Leticia. I know I behaved like an imbecile. Only God knows how horrified I am about what I did to you. I am paying in the worst way you can imagine for all of my shortcomings / failures. Do you know what? The whole world was against me, and I believe it was for the best that it happened, even though it destroyed other people with me, people that I cared about.
L: Look Don Fer. Before I came here to confront all of this I already forgave you. (Half smile, almost crying.) The truth is I don’t hate you anymore. (Big smile.) I forgave your deception (he reaches to touch her face), your false caresses (he pulls back hands; oopsie!), your cards. I forgave you.. that you went to my house and yelled at my father. You yelled that I wanted to keep your business.
F: Lety I didn’t know where you were. I knew absolutely nothing about you. [Estaba en lo que sido - I was beside myself?] What you wanted me to do. You didn’t even..
L: I even forgave you for interfering with my family. [He looks scared; maybe he’s starting to realize that he offended her horribly.] My family is the most sacred thing that I have. Yes, I will forgive you under one condition, that you get far away from me.
F: Fine, but you have to know that you are standing in front of someone who changed. I don’t want you to remember me as the person who hurt you. Instead I want you to think of me as a man who is learning the hardest lesson of his life.
L: (She turns so he can’t see her crying.) I don’t think about you anymore. I don’t want anyone to know that you were here with me. Please.
F: Bueno. That will be hard because there are too many witnesses.
L: I don’t want Marcia to know that you were with me, for nothing in the world. (Fern’s face: huh??) I don’t want to hurt her. Given that she’s afraid that the story between you and me will repeat. I don’t want you to put your relationship at risk for my fault because I can imagine how hard it was for you to get back with her. To get her to accept you again.
F: What relationship, Leticia? Por favor! Things are not like you..
L: Look, Don Fernando. I don’t need explanations anymore. Tomorrow we’ll see each other at court.

F: Lety, look. You have to listen to me. Damn it, this may sound ridiculous to you, and maybe I shouldn't say it, but you have to know this: I still love you, with all the strength of my soul. Verdad, do you believe me? Verdad, sí me cree. I’m in love.
L: Enough! How can you possibly think that I would believe you? I’ll tell you something. It’s obvious you haven’t changed a bit, but I have changed. I don’t need you telling me pretty things to make me feel good. I’ve learned to love myself and to respect myself around others.
F: (Begging.) Lety, please I respect you too. And if the problem is Marcia, I want you to know.. (His cell rings.)
L: Answer it! Please don’t go back to tormenting her. Dejame en paz! She leaves.
F: I love you. I love you, Lety. Very much.

Excellent title, Paula!

Thanks, Tutz. My second-choice title was "Lost Between Kansas and Oz," but that got a bit convoluted.

Thank you, Pat, for the screenshots. Pobre don Fernando!

At Placide, Fernando’s not drinking his whiskey! He’s drinking water!!!

Marcia seems more lucid and rational than usual. She even gives Lety a little credit where due. She has moved on from “Lety is ugly, low class, and horrible,” to “Fernando loves her, and I have to consider that fact in anything I plan.”

Paula,
I don't know if today was two steps forward/one step back or one step forward/two steps back.
On the one hand, Fern did not drink alcohol (even though tempted) he only drank water (one step) but he answered his cell phone and went to Marcia's apt (two steps back).
OR Fern did not drink and he manned up to Lety in the bar as well as out of the bar (two steps) but he went to Marcia's and was far from her physically & emotionally (one step).
What do all of you guys think?

I do think Fern believes he lost Lety, but I don't think he thinks its over. There is still too much boiling around in him and it seems he knows not to give up. But his head is telling him to go back to Marcia, but his heart is telling him its not right.

I loved the line "I love you with all the force of my soul" and they way he said it. Oh, I had to rewind about 5 times.

The cap ended with something interesting. At the jog, Lety talks to herself and she asks herself, what reason would Fern have to make fun of her (burlas) now? In other words, she is thinking maybe there is something to his declarations tonight......because why would he continue to lie at this point?

The meeting in the Judge's office should be good. They get to see each other again.

Also, I hope Lety bought more than just one new outfit. But dear Lety, you need new shoes!!! LOL

Diann

I forgot to mention my thoughts on Aldo/Luigi:
Aldo is not a nice person! Why is he leading Luigi on like that??? Like I've said before he is a snake out for his own interests (Lety, book, restaurant) and to h_ll with anyone else's feelings. Luigi was very clearly enamored with Aldo and it was clearly displayed at dinner yet Aldo did nothing to try and dissuade him. He just PLAYED ALONG with Luigi. Mean I tell you.
One more reason to hate Aldo
Diann

Here I'm hoping that Fernando has made the turn upward and then he spirals back down. Yes he defended Lety but he also lied to Marcia as to who he was with. Additionally, he went home to share a bed with Marcia, kissed her back when she kissed him, and lies in bed thinking of Lety. He's lying by omission and hasn't learned a thing. If he had, he would know he couldn't return to Marcia and needed to fight for Lety. But he doesn't fight because he believes Lety wants nothing to do with him. But again, if he really were that in love with Lety, he would not let her protests sway him. He would pull out all the stops to convince her that he loves her. Instead, he goes back to Marcia's place; his fall-back plan. I get so frustrated with him, like a parent watching her child make the same mistake over and over again.

Despite all that, Jaime Camil and Angelica Vale rock! They can say more with their eyes and facial expressions than many actors in the business today. I think Lety needs to give Fernando a good swift kick in the butt and then repeat the process a few dozen times.

I thoroughly enjoyed todays episodes.Although the audio is really poor at some points (as it was with the background ocean/water sounds in Acapulco).
I must admit I would have loved to see Lety dance with "Chuck".
Alicia refers to Lety as a 'garnacha' often and it must be a mexican slang. I have googled, and it means 'grape' or 'street food'. is anyone familiar with the meaning?
Jaime never fails to impress me, with his facial and verbal expressions!
the plot thickens--and now we have Aldo also working at Conceptos with papacita and Tomas?
oh, a final note--that guy at lunch with Aldo, Caro y Luigi--he made my skin crawl for some reason.
Sorry, I forgot his name!

Oooops--I just read the original recap, and 'garnacha' is explained!
"It doesn’t mean grape, it means an old, used worthless woman".
next time i need to read the longer recap first!
I was concerned about LFMB withdrawal this weekend--but I just bought the Navidad special and never watched it. LOL
Oh yes--and the compilation DVDs, but i don't want to jump ahead. guess I'll just watch the 1st DVD. I never saw thos episodes, as I am a new viewer (about a month into the show).

I really enjoyed today's eps. I thought the first one was really funny - loved Fern drinking water (almost like it was whiskey) while Simon was getting wasted & Fern then mirroring Simon's actions at the table. Great comedy there!

Of course - it was VERY satisfying to hear Fern finally talking to Lety even if she didn't believe him. The looks they gave each other from the moment he made himself known in Sanctuary were soooooo intense. Loved it!

A few questions - what would Fern have done if Lety had believed him and admitted she loved him? Would he have gone back to Marcia? I thought it was great that he got it all out, but he doesn't really have a plan does he? He's just reacting and it makes me so sad because yes - he made a few steps forward in this ep, but made a few steps back imho.

This is the first ep. in a while where i felt like I understood most of what was going on (well at least that whole Lety/dialogue exchange I understood) even before reading today's recaps. I guess I must have really been focused in and paying attention! :)

The only thing I didn't get/understand was what Aldo was saying/doing at the very end of the ep. and where he was running off to? Did he see Lety running in the park or something?

I can't wait until next week now!

@Diann- I was also hoping Lety bought more than one new outfit! Can't wait to see what she wears to the meeting tomorrow morning...

I also wanted to comment on how interesting it was to hear Luigi comment on the change in Lety... It seems the internal changes are visible to just about everyone. Fern references it with Marcia as well (that she has changed). I was really sort of proud of Lety for being strong with Fern on her own today without having to have Aldo (or Caro) give her a pep talk beforehand...

PS - as always thanks for the recaps & photos! :)

Thanks for another great summary and lots of insightful comments.
Lety may be an immovable object, but Fernando can be an irresistable force.
La Paloma

BarbaraM,
Remember that this love that Fernando has is NEW to him. He has never in his life had to fight for ANYTHING. He has the looks, the charm, the money etc. His whole life has been easy street. So when you say if he really loved her he would pull out all the stops to try and convince her--He doesn't know how to do that. I think he has grown a lot in proof he was able to confront Lety and admit he made mistakes (I bet that was the first time in his whole life he has said that). Also showed growth when he insisted he loved her. Yes, he backslid when he went to Marcia's, but the man doesn't know how to act right now. He is still learning. At least he knows he doesn't feel "right" with Marcia, I think he will find the ability to really leave her...maybe one more visit with PG. Or two visits...

Marie,
If you are only one month into the show, my word, you missed some GOOD stuff. You must watch the DVD to catch you up to this point. If you have the condensed Televisa version, there is A LOT edited out. (And I mean a lot of good Fern/Lety stuff). But if you have the 60 disc version, settle in with those discs, FF most of the cuartel and you should be able to catch up. Would love to her your thoughts on the going ons prior to Acapulco.
Diann

Gold star for you, La Paloma! (See the picture at the end of the recap.) I was wondering who would post the connection first. Now we'll get to answer the age old question, what happens when an irresistable force meets an immovable object.

Look carefully at the undercurrents when Fernando goes back to the dungeon. You see, in this scene, most of the ingredients of their dysfunctional relationship. Marcia starts interrogating him immediately, just like the old days. Fern goes to his old lies by habit, but then he pulls back and tries to not lie. He sidesteps one question and remains silent for the next. He says he’s given up on getting back with Lety, which at the moment is true based one his “I’ve lost her forever.” Then he says, “Hay que” – there needs to be – carefully third person – effort to make our relationship work. I think he’s trying to tell her, “I’m making the effort here, but if you’re going to give me the third degree every night, it won’t work.” The problem is, he DOESN’T say that. In the old days he’d manipulate her. Nowadays he withdraws. But he never puts the problem out on the table, so Marcia continues her old destructive behavior. She starts talking about the wedding stuff, and again he ALMOST tells her to stop it already with that subject, but again he loses his resolve. Marcia starts kissing him because that’s her standard answer any time there is friction with Fernando. When he puts his hand up, is it to touch her or to push her away?

Thanks, Paula. I feel greatly honored.
La Paloma

I say Fernando's hand was ready to push Marcia away. Look at the expression on his eyes. Marcia stopped the kiss before he could, she obviously wasn't "feelin' it" from him and it was her way not to get rejected, so she stops first.

IMHO,
Diann

Marcia is Fernando’s Achilles’ heel, and she always has been:
A. When he got back from Cuernavaca, he concluded that he had to marry Marcia, so LIFE caused Lety to find the letter, the beginning of Fern’s destruction.
B. The morning of the meeting, Fern accepted that he had to marry Marcia (and send Lety away?), so Lety delivered his head to the board.
C. And now his relationship with Marcia will derail any chance he has with Lety.

Why can’t he break free of Marcia? Look at the factors. It’s the perfect storm.
1. Fernando is very hungry for somebody to love him because he never got love from his parents.
2. He’s sure he’s lost Lety forever, that she doesn’t love him anymore, and that she never will.
3. Marcia does love him.
4. He’d rather be loved by Marcia than be loved by nobody.
Even the bad love is better than no love. Even the sad love is better than no love at all.

Given those factors, Fernando simply does not have sufficient strength of character to overcome his Achilles’ heel. That character flaw runs deep, clear to the bone. He has to do a lot more growing before he’s strong enough to purge that one.

Barbara, Fern still has a long way to go. Lety should ABSOLUTELY keep her distance for now. In fact he didn’t even start to grow - he couldn’t even say he loved her - until she started pulling away. Losing her is what is forcing him to grow. His selfishness and lack of backbone hurt her horribly. He has to grow up or he’ll hurt her again. But he’s not a dirtball. His life was a mess and he’s fixing it, one character flaw at a time. He can’t transform overnight, and he has to walk before he can run. He’s fixing the smaller flaws now, and he’ll get to the bigger ones (not just Marcia, but his love for Conceptos) as he gets stronger.

In fact, Diann, I wouldn’t call it a step backwards. If he used whiskey therapy again, that would be a step backwards because he stepped FORWARD when he stopped using whiskey that way. But with Marcia, he never took the step forward, so staying is not a step backward, it’s rather a LACK of stepping forward.

Diann makes a good point. Fernando’s never been in love and he’s never changed for a woman. Proof?
1. When he gave Lety his red cloth he said, “I don’t carry a handkerchief. I haven’t cried in a long time.”
2. At the start of the false romance, he told Omar, “I’ve never written a card to a woman nor given detalles, and I’m not starting now.
3. Cap 69, Lety broke up with Fern after her love poem. In 70 he told Omar, “I took her out, I danced with her, I kissed her. What else am I supposed to do?” In his world, taking a woman out is enough to make her fall into his arms.
4. In 71 he tells Omar, “I’ve never had to beg a woman to be with him, much less one like Lety.”
5. After Lety’s date with Tom, at her door, Lety reminds Fern he spends every night at Marcia’s. He defends that he hasn’t touched Marcia. IOW it’s okay to love one woman and live with another as long as you don’t love the other one.
This is all new to him, and he’s weak and immature besides. Until Lety left, being in love meant having someone who made him feel wonderful. Her needs never appeared on the radar. He knows he needs to grow, but he doesn’t have anyone to teach him, so he’s trying his best on his own. I think PG should stop effusing about “lose yourself to find yourself” and “attain harmony,” and instead tell him, “Hey, Lunkhead! You might have a better chance with Lety if you stopped sleeping at Marcia’s!” If he did, Fern would have that little suitcase packed before you could say “Chapultapec”!

yes, I bought the condensed LFMB series--8 DVD's I think, and I know I have missed so much of the original episodes!
YouTube is maravillosa for finding things though!
There are Bloopers, which are really cute--several of them, which i just watched.
Also all kinds of appearances on other shows, one with Angelica and jaime I really love of them singing;
'Nadie Sabe Donde Esta el Amor'

I agree that Fernando doesn't know how to fight for anything since he's been given everything too easily. But, and it's a big but, if he loves Lety the way he says he does then he'll find the means and strength to fight for her. Withdrawing from Marcia and not speaking truth to her is lying and remeniscent (sp) of his old ways. This time he doesn't come straight out and lie, but omission is still a lie. Fernando is progress but he retards his progression by repeating past bad mistakes. He needs to find the resolve to step away from Marcia permanently. Until he does, Fernando and Lety do not stand a chance.

As to Aldo, I'm inclined to agree that he doesn't have his priorities in order. He decides he wants Lety. OK, that's fine, but he is in a subtle way trying to manipulate her similar to Fernando. Both being men want what they want and will do what they must to get what they want. How's that for being philosophical? I'm going to hold out on whether Aldo is a villian or not as I watch how he progresses and he changes and matures. Believe, the man has not arrived even though he thinks he has. Aldo is not "all that" and maybe a snake in sheep's clothing. Only time will tell.

I've only watched the first few minutes of #199 but I do love Lety's new manner. The look on her face when she was talking to her father on the phone was both loving and firm. I also found it interesting to hear Luigi describe the changes he saw in her and I loved Aldo's face as he listened to Luigi's speculation about what could have changed her so much so quickly.

Güera

I have been wanting to weigh in on Aldo for a while now but was not sure where I stood. I liked him in Acapulco until he was driving the ATV on the beach. Dude these things are not environmentally friendly!! so much about being the hippy nature lover... I did think, once I tuned out the saccharine platitudes, he was good for Lety's self-esteem though personally I would have gagged with all that stuff about life and water. But that is just me. However, seeing him in DF really angered me. He has no right to all of a sudden, after hibernating for two years, decide he is madly in love with Lety. And that he should tell her. It is more about him than her. I do agree with all the posters who called him a stalker of the most creepy kind. I am not sure he is evil just as Barbara said male. His needs first! Part of my anger is that they (the show producers/writers) are using him as a tool and I was hoping LFMB would be above love triangles. Now it is no longer about Fern and Lety sorting out their problems but Fern making sure he keeps Aldo at bay. Also Juan Soler may be a great actor but he is so insipid in this one and it is not fair for any galan to have to compete with Jaime Camil in the same show or on the same screen. Does anyone notice Aldo when Fernando is around? Aldo is Freddy of My Fair Lady and we know who Eliza ended up with. For those of you who know the original play by Shaw Pygmalion, in it she ends up with Freddy and Shaw spends a whole chapter arguing why that happened and he is the least convincing. He actually has Eliza supporting Freddy and moving them in with Higgins! When he wrote the screenplay for Hollywood he changed the ending!!
Jenn

Yes, the scene with Fernando & Saimon in the bar is wonderful - especially the part where Fernando mimed the same moves and words as Saimon -- supposedly -- when, in fact, he was speaking for himself.

Again I speak for Aldo. If I had been emotionally dead without really realizing it and suddenly felt myself full of a deep feeling for the first time in two years I would have come running to DF also. As for the leading Luigi on -- I don't think he was focused on Luigi's flirting. Luigi misunderstood his rapt attention because he thought that Aldo had no interest in some obscure chisme about Conceptos personnel. So Luigi leapt to the conclusion that the attention was for him. Aldo was so focused on the Lety and what Luigi had to say about her that he didn't even notice Luigi for himself. I think that it's a clever display of classic TN misunderstanding.

Güera

Jenn, you hoped LFMB would be above love triangles. Well, the original was. Betty came back to Bogata and the vacation guy wasn't part of the equation. Of course, if we were watching the original, it would've ended 25 caps ago, and we'd all be wishing that it was still running.

Barbara: "Aldo is subtly manipulating Lety." I agree.

Barbara, I see that we really agree on most points.
A. If he loves Lety the way he says he does, then he'll (i.e. he will) find the means and strength to fight for her.
Yes, he WILL. He's searching for the means and strength and he hasn't found it yet. As long as Lety keeps him at a distance, he will keep searching; he'll move heaven and earth until he finds it.

B. He needs to find the resolve to step away from Marcia permanently. Until he does, Fernando and Lety do not stand a chance.
True. What's more, if Lety accepted him back right now, he'd end his quest and he'd stop growing. One might say, "If she were with him, he'd grow for her sake because he loves her and wants the best for her." Nope! He had his chance to be ruled by the bridle, back before Lety found the letter, and he still threw her under the bus.

Last thought. How can Fern be so dense? How can he possibly think that Lety will believe his love and come back to him, if he's shacked up with Marcia? Because that's what Lety taught him! If she gave him infinite love while he was engaged, why should she not come back to him now? That train of thought is stupid, but it is rational!

HEY! A MILESTONE!!

Fernando has passed several stepping stones already, like when he told Luigi to respect Lety. But occasionally he'll pass a MILEstone, something that caused big problems in his life in the past. e.g. when he chose to not drink in response to pain, that was a milestone.

I just realized he passed another milestone. Remember in the past, he'd sit at his desk, pen in hand, and say, "Why do I have so much trouble expressing my feelings?" Well, at Santuario he expressed his feelings loud and clear.

He also passed another stepping stone. He's accustomed to pushing people around. But when he declared his love to Lety, he didn't ask her to come back to him. All he asked was that she believe him and not hate him.

In the journey of 1,000 steps, only 985 to go.

Weighing in on more of why I loath Aldo. Notice the contrast between him and Fern. Luigi makes a series of snotty comments about Lety and Aldo's response is more of his usual Tsk, Tsk, Tsk.When the guy in the bar was hassling Lety Fern told him in no uncertain terms to respect the senorita.

Good catch on Aldo leading Luigi on. It isn't as if he didn't pick up on it but as I said before Aldo is an emotional scavenger. And we see a lot more of that along with his endless navel gazing going forward. I also don't like the fact that he is planning to use Luigi to insinuate his way into Conceptos. He also knows that Fern is the guy from the beach but he never mentions it to Lety.

I find it interesting that Alicia sees that fern still loves Lety while Marcia and MamaT don't either because they aren't the brightest bulbs in the place or because it is so totally unacceptable to then.

Deciegirl,
I don't understand your phrase "navel gazing". I'm sure I will agree with whatever it is since I can't stand the slob Aldo either.
Re: Alicia sees Fern still loves Lety-->I agree and I hope she somehow is the one to knock it into Marcia's head once and for all.
MamaT & Marcia PRETEND not to see it, they think if they don't acknowledge, it doesn't exist. But I think Marcia is going to find that very difficult to do once Fern is around Conceptos and around Lety. (You know he can't be leaving, otherwise there'd be no show!)

I grew up with navel gazing as a slang expression for someone who sits around pontificating all the time and if that doesn't fit Dr. Phil I don't know what does. I suspect that they want us to think he is deep and thoughtful but he just comes across as a pompous self absorbed jacka** in my mind.

Decie girl,

I totally concur!

I didn't think Aldo led Luigi on at all...I felt he was just politely ignoring his come-ons...I also felt while he didn't strongly tell Luigi that he was being an A$$hole for talking ish about the love of his life, he has no reason to reveal anything to Luigi just yet.

I think Aldo is getting more information about the situation...it's what I would have done. I've found that you get more information if you let people keep talking, than inserting your own opinions into the situation. He's going into a volatile situation and I think he wanted to get more info from a source outside of Caro and Lety. I do think it's weird that they made a business agreement with Luigi so quickly...I wouldn't say it's stalkerish - I think it's just a matter of him taking advantage of an opportunity that will benefit him on two fronts (business and personal). Not saying I agree with it, but I understand it.

I'm working to catch up on all of the earlier eps that I missed (just watched cap. 15) and seeing them reinforces for me that Lety needed someone like an Aldo in her life. In just those 15 eps I've seen her get her little heart stomped on a few times both romantically and professionally. While I don't think an Aldo/Lety relationship is a permanent solution, I believe she needs someone outside of her smothering parents (father) to guide her, continue to build her confidence, to help her to believe that real love is possible, to make her feel desired (for real) and to set an example of how a woman should be treated in a relationship. She's never had good examples for any of these things (besides her parents, which is a whole ball of wax that I could discuss for hours on end of how I believe they ruined her life!!) I know many here on the board find Aldo creepy, but he serves his purpose - I believe he'll be assisting our caterpillar turning into a beautiful butterfly.

Fern as Paula H mentions also needs a guide. Someone to help build his confidence, to show him how to love, to set an example of how you treat someone in a real committed relationship, to show him that he has an identity beyond being Pres. of Conceptos and how to be a real man!. Again he's never had good examples for this and he'll need someone to show him the way.

Aldo hasn't really fully been fleshed out imo, but his biggest flaw is that he's able to spout off pop psychology to Lety, but he's unable to take his own advice. He's been closed off for two years, grieving his cheating, dead wife & best friend. Aldo and Lety have shared quite a few of intense situations (him rescuing Lety + discovering his wife's reason for cheating + reuniting with his father) so for the first time he feels something and believes it's love. I think he relates to the raw emotions and passions he saw in Lety from that first moment he met her on the beach. Here's a woman who's made him feel something after so many years of feeling numb and he falls for her. Hard!

Pt. 2--(continuation)

Aldo is now has the thrill of the chase - he follows her to DF and wants to share these new feelings with her. Think about it from his perspective - she's playing hard to get! That makes her even more attractive because you know men love a good chase! She's not even aware of how deep he thinks his feelings for her are and because of that she's enchanted him enough to become a full blown stalker! (Gasp!)

None of what I say is new - it's been mentioned time and time again on this board. I just wanted to defend Aldo - he's allowed his flaws, no one in this show is perfect! This show is all about how people fall in love and how they behave in relationships! I think Lety needs to have another experience, another positive relationship before she's able to move on and truly give her fragile heart to another (Fern, whomever). I think Lety will offer a similar cure for what ails Aldo. I hope his intentions are as pure as I've stated, but who knows they may not be!

Sorry for such a long post, but this is where I stand for now...

GP, I'm glad you wrote your long post. I was just thinking on Saturday that our "club" has Aldo haters and Aldo fence-sitters, but no Aldo supporters like we had the last time around. I'm glad you've raised your flag as an Aldo supporter to balance out the mix. It will be good to have both sides supported in coming weeks.

Paula, great title, absolutely perfect. My favorite line of the recap is "His jailer is worshiping at the shrine of the wedding dress". How on earth do you think up such brilliant one liners?

Sorry for the late post, it was a busy weekend and I didn't get a chance to catch up on Friday's episode until this morning. The conversation between Lety and Fernando was awesome; thank you for translating it word for word. Those two actors are fantastic at portraying repressed emotions. Their body langage, tone of voice, facial expressions...wow! It's fun to watch two pros pull out all the stops. I was truly mesmerized.

Regarding Aldo and Luigi, I didn't feel Aldo was leading Luigi on. Rather, as GP points out, he just let Luigi blather on. Why should Aldo show his hand now? Anyway, Luigi is obnoxious and I would love to see him taken down a notch or two. He is another one who needs some schooling on how to treat people.

Once again, terrific recap, great screen shots, and fascinating comments. Thanks everyone.

I caught up on ALL of last week yesterday (I'm going to wear out that FF button before this is through). I'm still taken aback that Aldo agreed to take an office in Conceptos without discussing it with Lety first. It's safe to assume that she'll be thrilled, but even so, it would be much more considerate (and less presumptuous) to offer her the option to say no before committing to Luigi. (Though I'm not sure Lety would know how to refuse him!)

Anyway. What I appreciated most about this plot twist was that it bought Guillermo into our lives. :-)

Sylvia, in answer to your question, my Freshman Comp teacher taught me, "Write about what you love and you'll write well." I don't know if there is any thing* that I love more than Fea. Sometimes I wonder if anyone reads my summaries (I'm not whining, believe me; when I whine you'll know it!). I'm grateful for the confirmation.

* When I say "thing," that excludes "people."

There were a couple of episodes from last week that I didn't bother to watch, and I usually don't read the old recaps, but I ALWAYS read your summaries. There, now you know.

However, going forward I will be more attentive to the Fea posts because I resigned from my job and Friday was my last day. Since I plan to take at least a couple of months off before I go job hunting I'm looking forward to more fun projects and that includes Fea, yippee!!!

Yikes, Sylvia! Uh... congratulations? I hope this is a good change for you!

I, too, am more likely to read Paula's summaries this time around. Usually I don't have time to read the old recaps, because it takes so long to read the ever-longer comments section on the old recaps. (Aldo certainly was a divisive topic!)

Julie, yes it is a good change. Kind of an extreme choice considering the economy but I was having an ethical dilemma about the product I was supporting. Luckily I am a good money saver and have a reasonable financial cushion, plus a supportive partner, so for now all is well. I haven't had my "Yikes" moment yet.

Maybe I will look at some of the old comments regarding Aldo. I'm surprised that he would elicit such responses because I feel kind of blah about him. I tend more toward liking him than not. For now.

Paula, he said enloquecido (all together, means going crazy).
GeorgiaPeach, I totally agree that Aldo was not intentionally leading Luigi, but just sitting pretty and waiting to hear more info about what the goings was currently in Conceptos and how Lety was being treated... he probably also wanted to see how much of what she had told him about Aldo, Marcia, Alicia et al was true before he just assumed it was.

Also someone commented that Lety had to try a new positive love before realizing she was worthy and not just in the eyes of one man, but others too and she would choose one...
That is interesting since Fernando Gaitan also observed that idea in Cafe, actually in Cafe it was on both sides... Sebastian had another 'alternative' and Gaviota also had another 'alternative' and both chose each other voluntarily over others, even if the others seemed to have less 'baggage'.
