La Fea Más Bella #182 1/5/07 Fer is a new best bud with Psychic Guy, Lety adopts hippie philosophy, and La llenita timida wins with Vicky Form,

This one opens at La Comidilla where the cuartel is closing their lunch and the table looks as if these eight people didn’t eat. Irma's children are going back to EEUU, but lucky for Luigi, Irma will be staying. Irma asks for the afternoon off to spend with her kids before they go, Luigi agrees as long as they don’t try to change her mind. Jorge acknowledges this is the best place for Irma, so not to worry. PM says it’s late, so they better get back to Conceptos or else they will be killed! Martha says it’s ok because they are with Don Lui and Sara says he’ll defend them. Luigi is impactado, [impactada? ;)] and says, “who do you think I am Calemano? or Super Wanda to protect the Feas? Aye no, let’s go!” Simon agrees now is the time to say goodbye in ten languages.

Back at the Vicky Form oDiosa Contest, Caro asks the llenita timida how she is doing. She says fine thanks to Lety’s advice and attitude. Caro tells Lety the event organizers sent some unexpected printed acknowledgements for the contestants to downtown Acapulco, but we need them now, and they haven’t arrived, so Lety offers to go down and pick them up. She wishes the contestant luck and fun.

[I thought it was funny that Vicky Form had named this contest as such and even copyrighted the term Odiosa, (which we know was used on la Oxy last week thanks to Melinama). For those who aren’t aware, Vicky Form is somewhat (ironically named several decades ago) the Mexican Victoria’s Secret, and for the last couple years they have held this contest open to the public to promote their idea that beauty is an attitude, and it comes in all shapes, such that every woman should feel feminine and sexy. (Dove has a similar campaign here in the US.) They have used “ordinary women” in several of their ads. So I suppose it’s kind of neat that they are featured in this telenovela…..]

Back at Conceptos, Fer is wishing that the Psychic Guy would appear again because he really needs him. He actually complains that this guy never shows up when he really needs him. Poor Fer, so used to getting his way, sorry the world and its people aren’t at your command. Or maybe they are? Omar the Imbec barges in to tell Fer something and Fer says tomorrow because he has to go. Omar notes that he came in late and now he’s leaving early? He starts to tell him about T’s admonition, but Fer will have none of it and stomps out. Omar isn’t sure what would be worse, dying from a scolding by T or being strangled by Fer. He decides Fer should go where he wants because no one should touch his little neck, not his precious neck.

Marcia and Abicia are discussing that Lety will not return. La Oxy has some new jewelry on, earrings that are like masterlock size keys. They look pretty funny, but must go with the heart around her neck that hangs just above her well, you know. Marcia doesn’t want to talk about it anymore. Abitchita wants to know what Marcia knows because she needs to know if she still needs to kiss up to Tomas. She said the last time she saw Lety she wanted to kill that rat. Just then Fer walks out, and Oxy tells him not to take it personally that she was talking about another rat (feminine). Nice… Fer says he’s leaving and to call his cell if you need anything. She wonders why he’s leaving and he won’t say. Oxy snickers let’s see if tomorrow you’ll have changed clothes and bathed.
Oxy comments that he still seems out of sorts and wonders if he’s hoping that Lety returns. A says to herself, of course he does, because Lety needs to return the business. Alicia says they’d better pray to a saint then for her return. Maybe the Saint of Ugliness. Marci says if Lety came back it would be the best for the business, but it would be hell for her and she walks away. Alicia surmises that Marcia knows something she hasn’t revealed and starts chasing her down.

In Acapulco Aldo finds Lety, saying he was looking for her, and she’s glad he found her because she needs to go downtown, and Caro even gave her a cell to communicate. He says that’s great he’ll take her, he has a luxurious mode of transport. She speculates if it will be his bicycle. He says no, close, think of a racetrack…

Alicia gets Marcia in her office and wants to know what is so horrible about Lety. She says Lety actually did her a favor by exposing everything. Marcia ends up telling her Fer’s sad face is not about the business, or the colleagues or anything, it’s about Lety. She tells Alicia that he confessed to her that he’s in love with Lety. A says that not possible.

Turns out Aldo’s luxury transport is a motorcycle. How fun to ride around the coast in Acapulco on a bike holding on to Juan Soler. Ahhhh. Anyway, they chat about the port, all the tourists and how they come to enjoy themselves, the good food, and how great a motorcycle is for touring.

Back at Conceptos, Marcia says no it's true Fer confessed to my face. Alicia says no way, he said that about Lety to upset you. M says he has nothing to gain by that. A still can’t believe it and thinks maybe there is some witchcraft going on then. M doesn’t know what’s with that woman, but she knows he’s in love with her and he is desperate. Alicia asks what she’s going to do about it. M screams what would you have me do with a man who confessed he’s in love with another woman? You tell me what to do. A says it’s not like we are talking about a poor imbecile like Tomas Mora, with his silly outfits and no place to even fall dead. We are talking about Fer who has a good lineage, from a good family and has money. Besides he’ll get back the company, and well, even if he’s not president again he still has his shares, no? You have to fight to the death for a man like that. Marcia says she’s fought many years for him and she’s had enough. A- But you are in love with him, no? M- I wish not, but yes, I am. A-Well there you have it. The other woman that disappeared from Fer has no red hot coals (she’s not burning for him anymore?) Besides surely she doesn’t want to see him ever again, on the contrary you have him at hand, don’t just let him go. M- How do you suggest that I make him stop loving her? A- Love her, I think that’s an exaggeration. Maybe he found her exotic side and he liked her braces or her mustaches. Men are weird. I once had a man who liked me only for my…. Marcia is annoyed and doesn’t want to hear her stories. Guess we won't either then. A continues that M’s lack of self-esteem is offensive. That it’s not like she’s up against an amazing grand woman, “you are beautiful, have class, elegance, money, and intelligence; you have everything you need to get rid of her just like that.” She continues,“If that woman was like me then maybe you’d have to worry.” [Yikes!] She reads off the litany of adjectives to describe herself: natural blond, sensual body, classy, nice, sexy, attractive, seductive, charismatic, intelligent, and more, "then I’d tell you to give up, you lost, and to stay away." But with Lety, please. M thanks her for her concern and advice. She says, I’m your friend, it’s nothing, count on me. Remember your dignity. She gets up to leave and while her back is turned Marcia makes an air machine gun and shoots her multiple times. I loved this part! Finally the long-winded witch leaves, and I can recap more easily.

Back in Acapulco Lety laments that they don’t have more time right now as she would love to see all of Acapulco on the bike. Aldo says he would love to go eat some quesadillas de cazon, like the ones made in the little dive restaurants. He tells her how delicious they are. She tells him surely he would make them better himself, no? He tells her yes, but Aca. has many types of restaurants, normal, fine, romantic, etc. but there’s nothing like the quesadillas de cazon (baby shark, ouch, that doesn’t sound good for the environment) from the smaller “fondita” restaurants. She agrees she’d like to do that because it would remind her of home cooking. Aldo wants her to drive the motorcycle, she’s says no, he tells her that she can do it and to imagine the speed, etc. she pretends she’s doing it but then reminds him that she can’t because of her hand. She says she’ll run from downtown behind him on his moto if he calls his Dad. Suddenly the happy mood turns sour. Aldo wants to know why she does this to him. She tells him that after all of their conversations she has reflected a lot and has come to the conclusion that he should do this, what does Aldo have to be afraid of? He tells her very seriously that he’s afraid his father will reject him, and won’t accept him the way he is. [What way is he?] She shuts up and apologizes for meddling in something that shouldn’t matter to her. He changes his tune and says alright, he’ll do it, but on two conditions. One that she comes with him, because he needs her support and the second is that she won’t run behind him, because they are in a hurry need to get back asap. She agrees remembering that Caro is waiting for them.

We see scenes setting up for the event and a very worried Caro wondering where Lety is.

Then, out of nowhere, Fern is in an incredibly luxurious modern home. And guess who he is talking to. Jorge Flores, aka psychic guy. So much for easy recapping :) . I wonder if that is his real life house! I wouldn’t have placed his character in such a home, personally, especially not in Lety’s colonia. Anyhow, because this is telenovela land apparently Fer went looking for him and found him on the street in front of his house and was invited in. Even he is surprised at the coincidence (yeah Fer, remember you are not real).
He asks if there is no whiskey, Jorge shakes his head as a water is handed to him. Fer agrees it’s healthier, anyway. Fer is thankful he found PG, he tells him that Lety is still missing. PG asks if he wants him to tell Fer where she is, is that why you came to see me? He feigns that’s not why. PG says he wouldn’t say even if he knew. Fer says he only wants to know if she’s ok, it’s just that he’s worried about her, etc. PG says she’s better than you are imagining, she’s happy. F- Happy, he seems mad, how can she be happy when I’m so upset, living in hell, etc. PG- Look, she is going through her process and you are going through yours. Each in his own way. Are you looking for more from me? F- says it’s just that you know I’m in love with her but she sees me as a criminal, as if I’m crazy, he stops, do you want to meet her? PG approaches and Fer takes out a picture of her so proudly (ok he’s cute when he does this all the time, because photos are not really her strong suit) and shows PG. PG remembers the time he gave Lety the figure of St. Jude and tells Fer he knows her from that time.

Now we are in another luxury home on the bay and Lety is impacatada at Aldo's home and the view. Aldo tells her it’s her house too and she’s welcome anytime. Wish he'd tell me that! He says they have to get ready for approaching the difficult task of calling his Dad. He wants to know if she’d like anything to eat or drink or music, or to dance, or would like her hand wrapped. She doesn’t want it wrapped up because it’s too hot, but maybe before she leaves. She admits that she would like to know how Caro is doing, that because of Aldo they had to drop the package and then leave right away. I don't follow that, because if she is the assistant, why would she have to leave?

Back in the PG’s elaborate living room, Fer says he’s in love with Lety, he’s really in love with her, isn’t he? PG says, you don’t know? Fer tells him she’s not exactly his type, he’s been lucky to be used to beautiful and sexy spectacular women, and well… PG interrupts and says Lety isn’t spectacular? Fer says yes, she is, but in a different way. PG says she’s divine? Fer says yes, that’s it. PG tells him to sit and listen. PG -We are wrong to think that a beautiful face and a well-sculpted body will bring us love. F- says it’s easier to fall in love with someone beautiful. You can’t tell me that you don’t see someone and think you love him or her. PG says, no, true love is born from what a person is in totality. It’s like a complete package. The physical counts, of course, but also their feelings, how they act, how they live their life, how they think, how they behave, everything. Fer agrees he is right, he loves Lety for all that she is.

Now for the male viewers, a glimpse of the lingerie models in thongs at the contest.

Back at Aldo’s, Lety and he are sharing some wine (Lety became a drinker I guess) and the phone rings. Aldo thinks it’s his Dad, Lety says we call him, he’s not going to call us. They let it go and find out it’s Caro on the machine. She tells Lety that the show went wonderfully and that the girl she coached won in her category for full figureds! Lety is happy. She tells Caro she’s on a mission of sorts.

Back at Jorge’s Fer is rudely taking a call from Omar and won’t tell him where he is. PG says that he is ashamed to tell his friend he’s with a soothsayer. Fer denies this and the phone rings again. Fer turns the ringer off. PG says what if it’s someone important? F says Lety?

Irma is saying goodbye to her kids and tells them that she hopes they don’t wait for her to die until they return. Luci says she’ll call every night.

Fer realizes he’ll check his missed calls because if it was Lety he wouldn’t want to not answer because of that animal. PG says it’s not Lety. Fer asks how he knows. PG says he feels her energy very close. Fer says he feels the opposite, that her energy is far, very far.

Now we go to Casa Padilla where Tomas is trying to reach Lety to tell her what the lawyers said. Julieta wants to know what the problem is. Tomas finally tells her that Lety now owns everything. Julieta is impactada and before she can speak Erasmo comes home. She tells him what she has cooked and Tomas says how delicious. Erasmo then tells Tomas that he ran into his mom and that she is looking for him. Turns out he was kidding to try to get rid of him so Tomas wouldn’t eat everything. Julieta begs for protection for Lety.

Back at Casa Flores, Fer is saying goodbye to PG. He tells him that he feels much better after conversing with him. PG says when you want, but only if you cover yourself too because I’m very busy. F- I have your phone numbers so you can’t escape now. They shake hands and PG has a sensation. He turns very serious. He tells Fer now that they are going out he sees something that he needs to tell him. He says that Fer is so mad at himself that he is looking for the way to destroy himself. PG -Go to your house now and tomorrow you must occupy yourself with what you need to do, nothing else. Don’t let yourself stray, because your thoughts may talk to you and make you do something crazy. Go to your house now. Fer confusedly says he's going home.

Aldo is sitting staring at the phone and thinking about his conversation with Lety when she jumped in the ocean to dive. He picks up the phone. Lety tells him it will be ok. Aldo notes that no one answers and is about to hang up. Lety grabs the phone and leaves a message telling the Dad that his son would like to speak with him and to please call back at this number. Aldo is mad that she left the message and tells her that she shouldn’t have done it, maybe he was watching TV and didn’t want to get up. Aldo thinks he’s so proud that he’ll never call back. The phone rings and it’s his papa, Aldo asks how he is. Another famous guest actor! The father says he’s waited many years for this call. Aldo is freaked.

Marcia is lying in bed staring at her wedding dress, sadly. That' it, except that she looks freshly made up, complete with fresh hairspray. Don't know about you, but I always spray my hair before I go to bed at night...
uh, yeah right!

Back in Aca, Aldo drops off Lety with her revolving bandage and sling appearing again, and he tells her he would like her to come with him tomorrow when he speaks with his Dad in person. She declines, that they have much to talk about alone, but he insists, so she agrees, and he thanks her for everything.

Julieta talks to the icons praying for her daughter’s well being.

Lety is in bed and dreaming about talking to her self-portrait on the beach. She asks if it would like to be part of the ocean, given to God, liberated. She takes the portrait and says she gives it to the sea and rescues it. She is wearing a very nice white dress. Lety wakes up happy realizing that she rescued herself and is getting better, like she was a plane ? and could fly.

Back at Conceptos, the cuartel returns and cackles on wondering about Lety. Simon has PM's skirt pulled up with his hand very high. Whoops. Celso tells them that Tere, Marcia, and Luigi are upstairs so they better get to work. Simon thinks they are up there cutting the veins of their beloved Fernie.
Actually, T and M are chastising Luigi for stalling on the lemon soda commercial for Ricky Armstrong. He tells them in English not to pressure him that he’s been very busy helping out Irma. Marcia yells at him, that she’s aware of all that but they still have to work. He tells her you shouldn’t yell because you made me design a dress and now you aren’t even getting married. He realizes his insensitivity and apologizes saying he’s glad she didn’t marry that beast. He then realizes that he didn’t mean to say that Tere has a beast for a son, and well Fer’s a beast, but not really a beast. Well each to his own. He says that he’s sure T and Humb gave him a good education but he didn’t take advantage of it and that’s something different. Irma keeps poking him as he digs himself deeper into a hole. He finally says ok, punish me for my terrible mouth, and so forth. They go out and Fer walks in the office. Fer asks him about the commercial too. Lui ignores him again in front of everyone. Tere tells him they were just talking about this and that he’ll get to work on it. Luigi asks Tere why she gave so much explanation. Fer explains because she at least has a minimum of courtesy and education. Luigi says that he will listen to Tere because she’s at the head of Conceptos and how wonderful it would be if there isn’t a single male executive! Fer says none? Luigi says well, yes, good point, well, no, well, excuse me and he leaves with Irma. Fer's Mom tells him that he needs to define himself and he should concern himself with his work so that the employees don’t ignore him. He says yes, he’s sick of the lack of courtesy around here. She tells him he at least looks better today than yesterday and maybe he should put on a little tie. He agrees reluctantly that he’ll put on a tie. .

To anyone looking this morning, sorry for the delay. After being out of town I was stuck at work extremely late on a project last night and didn't get to start on this until morning. Between la Oxy and PG it took me quite a few hours to get it all down, even. I think I'll have to break down and buy a captioned TV to increase my speed!!! Thanks for waiting!

Where is the recap for Friday? I have been practically holding my breath til I can read it. I hope you print the recap soon. I am dying to know what psychic guy said to Fernando.

Hey kids, just a note about the recappers. I know it's hard to contain your enthusiasm for these shows, but remember to be patient while awaiting the posts. Our recappers often graciously devote several hours for each episode, while life happens around them; family and work, etc., to make sure that each post entertains you and represents the show's events as accurately and thoroughly as possible, and many of them even research and include background material to help you learn things you may not have known, or understood. All of this takes time.

Furthermore, viewers in Western timezones are seeing the show much later than others in Eastern zones, and so their morning might be your afternoon, and so on.

I know you froth at the mouth to get the scoop, but the recappers will come through in time for you. Part of the fun is the waiting, haven't you heard that many times before? Christmas presents come to my thoughts...anyway, something to keep in mind. Thanks!

I agree, and I am always happy to get the recap whenever it's ready. I am very, very grateful to the recappers and try to remember to tell them so often....so, thanks, Kris, for coming home from out-of-town and working so hard on both your project to catch up and this! I traveled 75 nights away from home in 2006 and 100 nights away from home in 2005. It is not easy to keep up. Bless you for doing this!

Unless your television is older than July 1993, or smaller than 13 inches, the captions must be built in by law (or if was sold out of the US, this is a US law). So, you just have to check on your remote menu to find out what category they are in and turn them on/enable them to "CC1"...you must have been out of town when we talked about this last week. We want you to fully enjoy LFMB! (And your recap is terrific).

I am liking Aldo more every night. He's definitely not Mr. Pollyanna all the time and is acutally quite charming. I don't mind the new age stuff, after all, my first husband was a hippie....really! (Aldo is a heck of a lot nicer than he was, too).

I like seeing Lety in this new Aca style. I love it that she is helping other ordinary gals as well as the bellezas. I liked seeing Omar get chewed out. I have to say, as mean-spirited as it sounds, I'm not too sad to see Marcia suffering some, though I think it's just more selfishness and outrage that he prefers a fea over her incredibly lovely self (not).

I played the scene with Alicia and Marcia back several times to verify those were file keys in her ears. Thanks for confirming that, Kris. I think it's rather appropriate for a secretary to have file keys for earrings....maybe the wardrobers have a very warped sense of humor since the Oxy refuses to see herself as a secretary.

HI:

I, TOO, WANT TO THANK ALL THE RECAPPERS FOR ALL THEY DO. I LOOK SO FORWARD TO READING THEM. THE WAITING MAKES IT ALL THE MORE EXCITING.

THEY DO SUCH A GOOD JOB... NEVER SKIP A BEAT...!!!

ANN

Wow, I'm totally impressed you can do this without subtitles. I absolutely could not do it that way. Thanks for your dedication!

I still like Aldo.

I visited the Vicky Form website and was immediately horrified to hear the music used during the never-ending underwear commercial chapters. Now I can't get it out of my head!!

See for yourselves

http://www.vickyform.com.mx/

Thanks, Kris, and welcome back!

I have to say one thing about friday or maybe more. First of all if any employee of mine had ever spoken to me or acted the way Luigi did I would have fired him on the spot. Told him to take his crayons and headbands and get the he** off the premises. His actions were totally unprofessional even though poor Luigi is backing the wrong horse in this fight his behavior was inexcusable.

Love the Fern/Psycic Guy conversation. It seemed to bring him some peace and confidence in himself. Much more valuable then Dr. Aldo's endless blathering to St. Lety although both seem to be getting results.

I'm really getting sick of Lety, sad to say but since she hooked up with the new man in her life she has become totally irresponsible, not showing up to do her job with Caro and being so cavalier about Conceptos. That's not the Lety we used to know and love.

OHHHHHHHH MYYYYY GODDDDDDDD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AND 100000 CARAYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!CARAY CARAY CARAY CARAY CARAY...!!!!!!

BLESS YOU JEANNE!!!!!!!!!!

FOR 8 YEARS I HAVE BEEN WATCHING UNIVISION WITHOUT CAPTIONS AND THINKING EVERY SECOND HOW HELPFUL CAPTIONS WOULD BE FOR MY SPANISH. THE TELEVISION WE HAVE IS MY MATE'S, VERY OLD, I DIDN'T BUY IT AND WE DON'T HAVE OR USE THE ORIGINAL REMOTE FOR IT ANYMORE...WE USE THE OTHER EQUIPMENT AND I JUST ALWAYS ASSUMED WE DIDN'T HAVE THEM!!!!! I'M FEELING REALLY STUPID TOO BECAUSE WHEN I LOOKED TO SEE IF WE HAVE A MENU BUTTON ON THE TV ITSELF THAT I COULD MANIPULATE; DON'T YOU KNOW IT, WRITTEN BY THE BUTTON IS THE WORD "CAPTION" CARAY!!!! I AM FEELING INCREDIBLY ESTUPIDO RIGHT ABOUT NOW. :(

BUT, NOW I FIGURED OUT HOW TO TURN THEM ON, AND AM PLAYING MY RECORDING FROM FRIDAY, AND UNFORTUNATELY THE CAPTIONS ARE REALLY JUST ALPHABET MUSH. I WONDER IF IT'S HOW WELL THE TV RECEIVES OR RECORDS THE SIGNAL, BECAUSE I'M ANTENNA TOO, YOU KNOW, AND IT SEEMS LIKE IT'S NOT GETTING ALL THE PARTS OF THE WORDS, OR ALL WORDS. OH WELL, I CAN SEE HOW IT GOES ON A LIVE SHOW. MAYBE I CAN PLAY WITH IT SOME. I'LL KEEP YOU ALL POSTED. WHAT A REVELATION! I CAN'T BELIEVE I NEVER INVESTIGATED BEFORE, I'M SUCH A TINKERER. ANYWAY, MIL GRACIAS JEANNE FOR SHOWING ME THE LIGHT! WOW, I'M IN SHOCK!!!!!!! MY LIFE HAS REALLY CHANGED, ALMOST LIKE LETY!!!!!!

De nada, Kris. ¡No hay de que! The alphabet mush could be the signal, the type of recording (VHS vs DVD) or it could be your broadcast station messing them up, which I also had experienced (and you may have missed my complaints then my jubilation about writing a letter and they fixed it). The best way to find out if it is just your television is to ask someone else to play theirs with captions and see if there is a difference. If another local television plays them well, it may well be a problem in antenna reception, your television's age, or something along those lines. Also view the captions on your English stations like ABC or CBS to see if there is a similar mishmash of junk captions, or if they are smooth.

Enjoy! One more time: muchas, muchas gracias for the recaps, Kris.

Jeanne

If I had planned to do that recap, it would have been even later, so I really appreciate the effort, Kris. Thanks!

I HAVE TO AGREE WITH DECIE GIRL, LETY IS MAKING ME SICK, TOO. WHEN SHE WAS WITH FERN ALL HER IDIOSYNCRASIES WERE SO ENDEARING, YET WHEN SHE'S WITH ALDO I WANT TO KILL HER. i THINK THIS IS A TESTAMENT TO JAMIE CAMIL'S ACTING SKILL, NOT JUST HIS LOOKS . hIS CHARACTER IS FLESHED OUT AND MULTI-DIMENSIONAL.i REALIZE WE HAVE ONLY KNOWN ALSO FOR ABOUT 3 WEEKS, BUT I HAVE HAD ENOUGH. LETY HAS CHANGED HER LIFE AROUND IN A NY MINUTE, JUST WITH ALDO'S "PLASTIC CUP" LECTURE. sOMETIMES WHEN THE EPISODES ARE SO CENTERED AROUND LETY AND ALDO, THE ONLY THING I LOOK FORWARD TO ARE THE CLOSING CREDITS, WHEN THEY L&F ARE IN MUNICH(BENCH SCENE)AND AT THAT RESORT. THEY ARE 2 OF THE SWEETEST AND TENDEREST MOMENTS OF THE WHOLE NOVELA

Yeah I can't believe that at the point that even Caro suggested she had better go back to México to straighten everything out Lety rather selfishly decided she was having too much fun with her noviocito. While Lety does need to learn some good self care skills, there is a difference between taking care of yourself and being irresponsible and selfish. I don't have the impression that Aldo is going anywhere, nor is Acapulco at risk of falling into the sea w/in the next century...Lety could easily have returned to the D.F. and been back on the beach w/in a day. And I also find her transformation rather superficial. But perhaps I am not sufficiently considering the fact that we're in novela-land. Oh. Yeah.

Poor Lety had her guts kicked in by Fernando. Why should she forgive him right away? I think I might want some revenge & dish out a little back of what Fern dished out to me--just so he knows just how much it hurts to treat someone so carelessly. She's not being irresposible with Concepts. She really believes she left everything in order for the lawyers. She probably thinks all the hoopla at Concepts is a trap laid by the Mediolas and Villareals to hurt her more. I don't begrude Lety having some fun--having some Lety-time...goodness she sure needs it. Let her bask in the glow of Aldo's friendship and nuturing. She needs to be a little selfish. She gives and gives to everyone---now she's saying 'enough is enough'. I just wish Lety and Also would kiss already, but I don't think it's gonna happen anytime soon.

Oh, and I must say a tremendous THANK YOU for this recap...and for all the others. I enjoy your hard work soooo very much and wish I could get my Spanish up to a level that I could help out. You all are the BEST!!!

"Lety and Also kiss" Also??? I meant ALDO. Must be getting near my bedtime!!

I love Fern and his psychic guy! They both have agreeable personalities that are easy to like. I don't know why I find Aldo/Lety so unlikeable, but maybe it's just because I liked Lety/Fern so much.
I'm hoping to see less Lety/Aldo and more of anything else at this point. Maybe not more Mama T. and the rest of the Fern attack team but maybe more of the other characters.
I'm finding it hard to watch the way the show is going now. I'm not ready to give up on it because I haven't given up hope for a Fern and Lety reunion!

Agreed... 3 days is not enough to forget everything Fern, not to mention his family of monsters, have put her through. I would hope, if I were put in her position, that I could also say 'take this job and shove it!' .... and not run back just because they asked... As for her job wth Caro, she (Caro) wanted Lety to take the day off.

I think that "red-hot coals" thing means something like "she's not so hot" (aka not attractive). Just a guess.

I thought it was weird that they didn't show us anything about the vicky form contest. Why did they make us think lety was concocted something special for the llenita to do, and then just blow it off with 'she won' WHAT?? that was bizarre - did anyone else feel like it was a missing piece??

At the end of one episode, Lety was talking to the one contestant about making the crowd laugh with her instead of at her. In this episode apparently the contestant won. Did they explain how Lety helped her?

This just in from someone who was in Mexico. LFMB is scheduled to end there on Feb 23. With no spoilers given it was also said that there are a bunch of secondary characters we haven't met yet taking up air time and the whole thing is drifting into WHO CARES.

I still care at the moment and I do think both Lety and Fern have growing up to do. He seems to be developing more of a backbone but I don't like some of the previews hinting at a war over Conceptos which is sure to create more distance between them.

I'm just hoping the Psycic Guy can keep them both focuses on each other.

Lolita mentions a good point. We seem to be getting some very odd cuts with people suddenly having a conversation and we never figured out how they got together. Lety with Fern's tio and Fern with that odd meeting in the house with PG. I know the conversation mentioned how it happened but it still made no sense. Also the whole thing with the contest seemed just thrown in there perhaps to show Lety getting outside of herself for a change but it seemed a waste of time. Sometimes when I'm watching I get the feeling I might have dozed off for a moment, although I know I haven't. Just like with some of the odd continuity breaks it makes the show look slapdash and I don't remember it being that way in the beginning.

Janet

Hey fellow fans who don't speak Spanish I just got my hands on a little book called Mexican Slang plus Graffiti that I'm hoping will help me plow through Oxi's constant name calling. Some of it is pretty graffic which we aren't likely to hear on a novela but it has made some things clearer for me that don't show up in the Larousse dictionary or the Word Ace software that I use when I get stuck.

Perhaps the Vicky Form thing was a longish "commercial" when they showed it in Mexico, and cut bits of it out to show in the US. Normally I am in favor of cutting down on useless filler (if that's what happened), but if that means we also missed out on the resolution to that one contestant's problem, then I wish they'd also cut out that entire mini-subplot.

As for the music at the Vicky Form website... arggggghhhh... I just had to listen, didn't I?

Yeah, the Vicky Form website is a nuisance! The contest was filler, but the point may have been to support Lety's self-esteem and recuperation because she helped someone else.

I can't help but wonder if the director, God rest his soul, was working up to his heart attack or stroke (whatever it was) and sort of fading at the end....which may be reflected in how the scenes played out and were edited? Just a thought. Sometimes you can look back and see the lead-up in changes that affect thought process. A director has a powerful amount of input and direction for a production, right? Jimenez was clearly a very talented director, and he worked right up until his death without anyone really suspecting he might be experiencing problems, but there might have been some "soft" signs.

Now that Jeanne woke me up to the "I must have captions" rule (I should have known it would have been an ADA requirement) I watched all the episodes I missed last week with the captions. It's a new world! I too noticed the weird non-sequiturs, like how the hell did she come up on Fer's tio on the beach. Unless I missed something, she was suddenly just talking to him, no? I remember him from before, though, but that was weird from the storyline point of view. Did you all already talk about Lety's comment that Fer looks more like him than Humberto? Usually that would signify to me a future happening, i.e. Tere had some hot and heavy with uncle, and Fer is actually their love child, and so his real Dad isn't such a bastard after all. It would also make sense to set that scenario up by throwing this random in.

I also speculate that Lety's eyebrow shaking at the laugh with you/not at you advise to the llenita, may not have been intended as a reference to a plan for the llenita, rather something that occurred to Lety about a plan for herself. I guess we'll see if it plays out.

I've definitely seen storylines in novelas just get cut off for no reason. Someone decides they aren't going to move in that direction anymore and either forgot they hinted it, or decided it's not worth it to follow through. You know, money is an issue in these productions. Mexico spends tons of money on the telenovela productions, but they don't have unlimited astronomical budgets like here in the US. [Gloria at least might remember the sudden appearance of "all things PALMOLIVE" toward the end of La Mentira.]
Frankly, this explains to me the featuring of Vicky Form (obviously a sponsor) and the Ford, and the BMW, etc. though I'm still perplexed about the Benz, though the more I thought about it, I realized it could actually have been the reverse of what I originally proposed. That Mercedes didn't want to pay what the production wanted to feature their car so they had to cover the logo or get sued by Benz. From Daimler/Chrysler's point of view it probably was a foregone conclusion that it wouldn't be worth the marketing expense because really, very few people in Mexico are even able to entertain the idea of owning one, so the ad dollars are effectively wasted. Anyway, that's my 2 pesos worth of thought. :)
So, clearly in this production, especially if what someone said above about the coming unknown characters and drawn out storylines etc. is the case, because this show is so hugely popular, they'll keep going with it as long as they can keep the stars, and have money etc. Does 10 seasons of FRIENDS ring a bell to anyone? How about 30 years of Saturday Night Live? Get my point?

Yes, indeed, those are good points, Kris! Friends and Seinfeld went on forever. Seinfeld was a show about nothing, right (I read that somewhere).

You saw what many of us saw--Tio Fred just showed up by magic and they were fully engrossed in conversation. It left us scratching our heads....

I feel like the show is just cut and paste in occasional scenes and we on American TV are not use to that. It is very strange and hard to watch because I always wonder what happened?????????
I'm hoping something interesting will happen soon with some of the likeable characters (how about Moty?). What was the deal with Roman and the gang learning Lety is in Alcapulco? Nothing has come of that.
I'm looking forward to Lety's return to Conceptos and figuring it has to happen sooner or later.

I guess drawn out story lines are the curse of a sucessful show although they didn't play around with the gorgeous and always interesting Alborada. I once was involved in a novela that wasn't doing well in Mexico and all of a sudden they literally cut 4 months out of the story. One day they gave a fast voice over saying "Six months later and all this has happened". Made the rest of the time almost unwatchable as they tied up storylines we never saw. In novelaland strange things happen, leading men get replaced with another character or the worst case the female lead was recast in midstream with an actress that looked nothing like the original. Sort of like all the replacements of GH's Carly Corinthos if you know American Daytime TV but very rough on viewers.

OMG, do NOT get me started on the Many Faces of Carly. :-) But you certainly cannot blame actors for wanting to move on, especially when the show really starts to drag. No matter how good or bad La Fea gets, I am really looking forward to seeing some of these actors in other roles - and that can't happen until La Fea ends.

Julie,

I'm with you in wanting to see some of these people move on to new things we can enjoy. It must be very frustrating to be in a hit that keeps getting extended when you may have other commitments. I know that Jamie Camil makes movies because a few weeks ago he was here in town promoting one. And both Angelica and her mother do a lot of other work.

Thank you recappers for doing such a great job!

Does anyone know if Lety's mom on LFMB is Angelica Vale's real mom?

I am definitely non-fluent in Spanish although I am somewhat in Italian so I very much appreciate what all you recappers do for us. Thank you!

I thought I heard Aldo's father in talking with Aldo say something about Aldo's mother or the spirit of his mother? Did any of you catch this? Did Lety remind him of Aldo's mother?

Yes, Lety's mom on the show is Angelica Vale's real mom. I read in a bio that Angelica was born Angelica Vale Hartman. Her mom was born in New Orleans. She had an american father. When Angelica's mom's parents divorced, she moved back to Mexico.

The above post is correct, but may confuse some readers. So to make it clear, both mother and daughter are named Angelica. Angelica mom (our Julieta) was born in New Orleans to an American father. Angelica daughter (our Lety) was born in Mexico. Her father is the late Raul Vale, also a famous singer/composer originally from Venezuela. He passed about three years ago from lung cancer at a fairly young age.

has anyone tryed calling the phone numbers that the actors randamly call out?

Angelica Maria's last name is Hartman?

La fea was a BIG hit so the producers have made the novella last longer... the only problem is that THAT had bord so of the vewers....
