La Fea Más Bella #216 2/21/07 A Brand New Day, Unibomber sighted in the DF, Aldo conquers his final foe Don E
OK IT LOOKS LIKE IT’S A NEW DAY FINALLY!!!!! YIPPPEEEEEE!!!!
Aldo is walking in jogging clothes in the park recalling his and Lety’s kiss in the ocean and hoping he’s get to hold her again. Enter the pastel Unibomber. Now here’s an improvement over the wardrobe that lasted two weeks. L She apologizes for being late and tells him she saw Fer outside her window and begs him to help he forget. Lety starts running like loco. Aldo stops her and wonders what is the problem he tells her she has to just get him out of her head. He not the man you thought he was. If you don’t you’ll never get over this pain. She thanks him for his compassion. He almost mocks her and asks her if she thinks he’s doing this because of compassion and she says of course, you are always so compassionate with me and then Lety decides to invite Aldo back to her house for breakfast.
He says ok, but wait, he lost what he was carrying for her and he freaks out looking for it. Lety discourages him from looking any further because they eat at a specific time and her Dad will be mad if she doesn’t show up on time. He wants to look, she wants to go. Look...go…look…go…go. He proclaims that is what signified his love for her so he has to find it. Alas, he doesn’t. Is this a sign?
At Conceptos a new day has dawned finally. But Celso who seems to work 24/7 is sleeping at reception with Sanson. Can you blame him? Fer asks Sanson to wake him up. Fern startles him. They exchanged words about how secure the building is from his vigilance. Fer tells the dog to take care, and for them not to fall asleep on their jobs.
Fer then goes into Lety’s office he makes fun of her Caracolon Erotica and her “Zen” garden.
Back at the house, Juli is excited to see Aldo again and Aldo is getting excited to eat Julieta’s cooking. He picks some smells out of the air and says they smell like the flavor of life. He is enchanted with the house and family. Juli is flattered but lets Lety know they might have a problem named Robopop. He was already mad that she went running so early by herself and he surely won’t be happy to meet Aldo. Sure enough he waltzes in wondering where the woman of dawn went and gives Aldo the thrice over. He wants to know who this man is.
Fer, still in Lety’s office, calls Omar who is still sleeping and says he’s crazy for being in the president’s office at this hour and besides remember he’s not the president anymore. Fer asks him why Aldo gave her a Caracolon and Omar says let me guess, he couldn’t find a seahorse. Omar wants to know why he’s there this early and he says he couldn’t sleep all night and I wanted to leave before Marci woke up because he can’t stand being with her and in her room etc. [Why won’t he just leave her alone then!!!!!!!!!!]
Fer tells Omar that Aldo went out with Oxi. Omar is impactado. Fer says it’s in bad taste to paint shells and that he saw Aldo leave in a taxi with Alibubis. Omar says he told him so but Fer never believes that he has the mouth of a prophet. Ok kids, remember to add that to his short list of attributes. He says, poor Aldo, because he doesn’t know what he’s getting into with her. Fer says he can’t stand this jealousy and he’s annoyed and asphyxiated with it. Omar tells him he better get over it because they need to go to the restaurant association and he needs to be bright eyed and bushy tailed etc.
Back at Casa Padilla Erasmo begins his interrogation, for one, because it’s not proper visiting hours that early. Julieta introduces him and Aldo manages to charm Don Erasmo as well by breaking out that existential stuff. He asks Robo when was the last time he watched the dawn. Aldo says if it only came once a year every human being would set his or her alarms to get up to see it. Robo reminds him that essentially Lety was raised with family values.
Tomas is walking and muttering to himself recalling seeing Ali with Aldo and he kicks a can to the crazy gods and it doesn’t come down for a bit.
Fer walks over to deface the painting with what looks like a green pen. He seems to draw all over it, but I think he was pretending. Instead he gets some on the wall and has to rub it off. Fern in his jealous rage calmly turns the caracolon upside down, and then makes blowing/ spitting noises at it. What was that all about?
Does it look more or less erotic now? Still evil? To me it looks less evil but more erotic.
Aldo continues to charm Erasmo by saying how much Lety talked about them and how important they are in her life etc. Erasmo starts to cave, as Al continues to describe how much he too values family. Finally “the family” sits down to eat, and Erasmo welcomes Aldo, that their home is now his home. It worked. That guy is soooo smooooth.
Tomas walks and talks cursing Alibubi’s escapade with Aldo and wondering why. He happens upon a street poster advertising a place to change his look. He curses all attractive people.
Erasmo yells at Moty for having bad manners in front of guests. Heck, for a dog they scooped off the street, I think Moty does pretty darn good. Have you understood that I like Moty?!!!
Aldo praises the food. And Erasmo says they know this stuff because they are Pueblan. Aldo knows that, because Lety has indicated how proud she was to be from Puebla. Lety says Aldo knows of what he speaks because he’s a chef. Erasmo is shocked that a cook could not be a woman. Lety says, you know the best chefs in the world are males. Yeah, take that Erasmo, men are not automatically born with a gene that keeps them from being able to cook. YOU SHOULD TRY IT SOMETIME ERASMO!!!!!!
The door bell rings it must be Tomas, he greets everyone, then, uhoh, he’s ripe with rancor for Aldo.
Omar and Fernando are now awaiting the meeting at the Restaurant association and Fer continues to kvetch about Aldo. Omar reminds him of the 2 million he’s getting them. Fer goes on about Aldo being an idiot and that he doesn’t like him, etc. Just then Aldo walks up in another hip blazer and surprises them. They change their tune and greet him enthusiastically.
The cuartel is out front of Conceptos now also finally in different clothing and Irma is glad that they are all punctual after being kept awake so late the night before (in the bar) so they don’t get in trouble and they babble on about that. Lety then drives up in her new putt putt mobile and the cuartel is impactada and PM, most of all, gets all excited for her; cheering her. They all contemplate what they might be able to do with a car. Sara thinks somewhat sarcastically that it would be a burden, all the traffic, etc.. Lety confirms the car isn’t a boyfriend’s and not for the president, but is for her because she paid for it with her salary.
Alicia is back on the microbus and she falls asleep on her neighbor. Of course she insults the passengers and beats the driver up to stop, and then again realizes she wants to go backwards a little bit to avoid the cuartel. The driver offers to give her a hand getting down but she refuses, saying it would be dirty, and she’s glad he’s finally opening the door because it started to look like he was taking her home. He said he would take her home but to do things she doesn’t know how to do, wash, clean, cook etc. Ja Ja, she calls them nacos and pigs, etc. as she disembarks.
She then exchanges insults with the cuartel while they are admiring the car. Lety then tells the cuartel she needs to talk to them about their bathroom conversations because Marcia is walking around thinking something about her. They decide to go in, but not before Marta begs Celso to buy her some snacks.
Tomas 007 is behind the plants moving again, spying on Ali I guess.
Over at the ARM the bobsy twins are still trying to cover about anything Aldo might have overheard, and that they do like him, to which he replies he’s glad he likes them too. Everyone is introduced when Gui arrives and wow, we finally get to see new people on the set!!!! But, they are representatives from the government's publicity board. [I guess they are going to have a say in how the project promotes the foreign gastronomical tourism.]
Alibubis is kissing a picture of Aldo saying she’s getting married. Lety and the cuartel pass through and Lety invites the cuartel into the meeting room. They make like it’s a privilege to go into the meeting room of the presidency in front of Oxi.
Tomas shows up to Ali still incognito and begs her to come to his office. She wonders why he’s dressed so funny and says to herself that she hopes he doesn’t give her another pair of stockings because she’ll make him wear them himself and they will go very well with his ridiculous outfits.
Lety tells the cuartel that Marcia is going around thinking Lety broke up their wedding. She wants to know how they came upon such gossip. They try to blow it off that Mar heard wrong but Lety says Marci is not the kind of woman to make such a thing up and she presses them harder. Marta says the Edicion. Lety says no, I know it wouldn’t be from there, Gina is my friend anyway.
When Lety realizes she’s getting nowhere, she patronizes them and makes like she’s going to get up. Irma tells her if she’s not satisfied with the answer she got, she should just say so and demand to know once and for all what’s going on.
With the set of the ARM they finally got closer to the idea of a camera friendly table position, at least in this meeting they are using ¾ of the available space. The group begins talking about the project and Gui asks for Aldo to explain his concept. Before he can start jealous Fer interrupts and starts telling them about how Conceptos will be in charge and what ideas they have to spread the word. Gui then interrupts him saying before we get to the mediums and methods, he’d like Aldo to explain more about the concepts and ideas. Aldo says the usual about the Flavor of Life and Fer mocks him in a high baby voice. Wonderfully professional, not, but funny as hell!!

Now - a question - This is called "cross-country bus-trip. This is the scenario: you have to take a 4-day cross-country bus-trip. When you get on the bus there are only two seats left. One is next to El Checque and the other is next to Ariel. Who would you choose to sit next to for the next four days? (You won't be able to change back and forth, as the empty seat is soon filled.)
Thanks again to the recappers for the recap and commentaries, and also to all the rest who add their comments and observations.
I also loved when Fernie wrote his initials in the sand of Lety's little box saying, this should remind me of you subliminally. I loved when he said "I'm ASPHYXXXIATED by my jealousy." He's really losing it, isn't he? To act like that in front of guys with 2 million dollars to spend? Heh.
I've also come to the conclusion that telenovela citizens do not have peripherial vision nor can they hear anyone talking who is not talking directly to them. How could they NOT have heard Fern's childish jibbering.
Oh, BTW, "crazy gods" hahaha. Good one!!
Barb
I too loved how Fern wrote his initials in Lety's sand. I thought, "good now she will see and know he was there thinking of her".
I couldn't believe how Aldo charmed papa so quickly. I thought at least he would be immune to the psychic spell!
Ariel or El Cheque? I would choose anyone over Ariel!
Carrie L.
4 days on a bus with either Ariel or El Cheque: obviously this is not a pleasant choice, but I'll choose Ariel. Neither man is very nice, but I think Ariel would be slightly more likely to ignore me and mind his own business while I read my book. And if we did have to talk, I think Ariel speaks more formally and clearly than El Cheque, so he'd be a little easier to understand.
Fern wrote in his name in the sand..tan lindo and smelled the office: It smells like Lety...
Aww poor Tomas, Aldo was seated in his seat at the table and he didn't want to take Moty's seat...pobrecito. I liked the way he said: "Lo encuentro hasta en mi sopa." Literally translated: I find him even my soup.
I thought it was absolutely hilarious when Fernando imitated Luigi while he was looking at Lety's desk. Jaime Camil is a major talent. Now that he has apparently moved to the U.S, maybe he will get cast in more American movies (he can be the next Antonia Banderas crossover). He has a couple of movies on Netflix even now that I have ordered.
Tomas inspector gadget..I like that one. hehehe
Fernando was so funny with his "flavor of life, flavor of life". He is a great master of sarcasm. I had to laugh at the last comment about telenovela characters having no peripheral vision, etc. I always find that astounding also.
As far as Aldo winning over Robopop that quickly, I don't believe it. Robopop would be the last one to fall for Aldo's charm.
All you recappers and commentators are funny and insightful. I love to read this blog.
That Aldo - yikes - he had some serious "if looks could kill" moments: when Lety was whining about Fernando, and at Fer's aside to Omar in the high pitched voice, "cursi, que cursi" with that look of disgust. ¿Quién es mas macho?
Bus ride - Ariel - he'd have some entertaining sarcastic remarks, no doubt, about the other passengers, the driver, the view, etc.
Omar is like a dog in heat. They are at a business meeting and he is flirting. Geez
Ariel or Senor Cheque, I guess that I would choose Ariel. He could be easily ignored, while Senor Cheque might be an octupus. LOL
Whenever Aldo speaks, my eyes automatically roll up to the top of my head. That new age babble is a complete turn off.
I like that if looks could kill. He is Mr. Nice Nasty.
PS. I want to sit by Ariel cause he would be great at mocking others...however El Checque would never get the joke.
Coincidentally, Anon 11:58, while Aldo was hypnotizing RoboPop, I had that same thought about the eye-rolling.
I've been hoping that Friday's double-episode won't be too full of Aldo moments, because two hours of eye-rolling could become painful. But I expect my hopes will be dashed.
Fern - not very discrete being in the office, writing his intials in the sand and then turning over the picture. I couldn't help wondering if he was going to find and read Lety's diary. I just know that diaries have to play a part in all this since she spends so much time printing away and then there is that damming picture of her and Aldo. Poor Fern will lose his last wit if he finds that.
Poor Omar his date with Miss Checzoslavkia must have been a total FRAKcaso (sorry couldn't stop myself), there he was home alone when he got his wakeup call from the sleepless Fern. Of course he had to hit on the first female he saw - the fool.
I couldn't help wondering how long it would be before the restauranteers started rolling their eyes as Aldo went into his deep thought speech about food. Even the sight of him now is starting to give me that feeling you get when someone runs their nails over a chalkboard.
I'm waiting for Fern and Aldo to cut out all the pussyfooting around and lay their cards on the table. Aldo's coy comments about Fern's tie , all the nice nice talk when you know they really want to gut each other.
And what do you know - Aldo going postal on Lety. Caro warned him he was moving too fast but he keeps ignoring her. In reality he is no different than Fern. Two spoiled rich men who want what they want when they want it. At least Fern doesn't push.
Diane
That is what I thought he was going to find too. I am at home in my chair going OH NO!!!!
I thought Fernando was absolutely adorable in Lety's office, playing with the sand and turning that Picture From sHell upside down. When he sputtered-hissed-spit at it, I had hysterics!
Bus trip: I'll choose Ariel because I am a fea so he would ignore me.
I would be too tempted to go back and forth with Ariel over his constant snobby, nasty remarks.
Now if only I could take a long bus ride with Fern............!
Not that I'm dense, but is it official there is no show tonight???
Carrie L.
Thursday (tonight)
7-8 noche de estrellas
8-11 premio lo nuestro 2007
Friday
7-8 duelo de pasiones
8-10 la fea mas bella
Monday
7-8 duelo
8-9 la fea
9-10 mundo de fieras
I guess I always knew music in Mexico was more important than anything else. At least we get 2 episodes of lfmb friday to make up for none tonight.
Aldo really laid it on thick with Don Erasmo, didn't he? Not only is he guapo, he's suave as well.
I don't care how many cool pastel shirts Fern wears, he does still act like an overgrown school kid. That sarcastic Aldo-speak to Omar at the meeting made me snort with laughter. You're right about no hearing or peripheral vision in telenovelas.
The unibomber suit was bad, but I thought Lety's work outfit was even worse. When she stepped out in that suit (another abuelita wardrobe theft) and those white surgical hose, I just cringed. NOOO Lety, not again. I thought we left that look behind. Not that Aldo's "cool" jacket was much better.
Speaking of looks, I can hardly wait to see the new look for "Inspector Gadget." Tomas as an Aldo clone will be painful to see. Poor baby, he thinks that will impress the Oxi's hard heart.
Ariel or El Checque on the bus ride? Definitely Ariel. He won't take up as much room and he'll ignore me because I'll look like a fea. Then I can ride in peace and read, doze, etc.
Everyone, thanks for the fun comments! I was impactada at Aldo actually yelling at Lety. My, my, there's trouble in Paradise. If you think he swayed Don E, wait til he gets Mama Tere and Don Humb in his grasp. I like Aldo, though. I just wonder if he can even charm Mama Tere.
Too bad he lost the pearl. Being all new agey and stuff, he might actually obsess on that "symbol."
Fern and Omar make a terrific pre-adolescent team. They've got some of our middle schoolers beat out here.
Jeanne
Yikes-are the only choices El Cheque or Ariel??? Ariel NEVER holds back nasty comments, (and would probably include ME in those), so I'd go with El Cheque-he seems harmless enough and at least he seems nice enough to give me the seat of my choice! LOL!
Hmmmm...I wish I knew how to answer that one, I want to say Ariel but am afraid he'll start dissing me so I'll go with El Cheque, i think he'll just ignore me and I could put up with him hitting on everyone, I'll just doze away and ignore him.
I still like Aldo and am getting tired of Don Fernie's childish antics. As cute as he is, I wouldn't want someone who couldn't control their jealousy like that. Give me Aldo's new-age blah blah any day. At least he has a check on his emotions. I believe Aldo has reached a point of self-awareness that makes him kind to everyone - even the jerks - and he tries to show them their "goodness". I'll sit next to Ariel and try to analize his childhood and why he is such a shmuck. Does El Checque remind anyone of Buddy Hackett? Still watching in MA
I forgot to mention/question when D. Erasmo was speaking to Aldo about Julieta's cooking, he referred to her as "mi mujer". Not "mi esposa" or "la senora" or whatever, but "mi mujer", my woman. I don't know enough detail to know how acceptable that is. I would be a little ticked off in the same situation, but I'm not in that culture, so I dunno....
Fern: Si, las palomitas
I think Aldo was talking about his tie being of the thin variety. According to my mom, the tin ties like Fern are old fashioned.
Still can't figure out why Fernando has SUCH antipathy for Aldo (when he has only met him for a day-And the guy is helping out his business with a cool 2 million)!?! I mean if it weren't for Aldo and his business contacts they would be out on the streets, right?? So, doesn't it seem a little weird that Fernando is actually being RUDE to him -even if he is insanely jealous??? I would think he would realize Aldo's contribution to the company and deal with his own issues--if not for his own sake, but for the well being of everyone else, right?? But, of course, they(Mendiolas and Villareals) treat Lety horribly and that makes no sense either...
Hope everybody has a great night-in spite of no LFMB! Are you going to watch the awards or the American version of LFMB??
Once I was in an elevator at one of the nice hotels in Hawaii with a Spanish speaking family (ritzy hotel, ritzy looking family, possibly Castilian from Spain, judging by accent) and I was wearing a swimsuit since I had come off the beach. The woman didn't think I should be wearing a swimsuit, apparently, and proceeded to make ugly comments about me to her husband, focusing on a rash I had on my legs and telling her hubby that it just looked awful to her (sus piernas ---terribles or something like that) and I shouldn't be out in public like that, looking at my legs. I suppose she thought I wouldn't understand. So I just turned around and stared hard at her. The little girl, about nine or so, looked at my face and said in Spanish, "Mommy, don't talk about that lady. She might understand you!" I smiled a little bit at the girl as I got off the elevator and nodded, and said in English, "You're darn right I do." I left them wondering how much Spanish I understood. I'd do the same with Ariel or El C. Ah, it's a challenge being fea among the lovely people.
;-)
Yes, El C absolutely looks like Buddy Hackett! Thanks to whoever made that connection so I can quit obsessing on who it is I think he looks like!
Jeanne
I think that Fern instinctively knows that Aldo is a threat to him and that his obvious interest in Lety is more than casual friendship. Aldo's project is going to save Conceptos, at least for the first month but there is no guarantee that they wouldn't have been able to scrape up more work at they approached it agressively. I also think Fern doesn't like the fact that they have to rely on this stranger.
Janet
thank you re-cappers and bloggers. I just love reading everyone's take on this show. Loved the imagery of the Uni-bomber and Inspector Gadget.
This is the first novela I have ever watched. When this is over, will one of you veteran novela watchers make some recommendations for the next one to watch?
Also, I see that Jaime Camil was in a novela called Mujer de Madera. Did anyone see it and how was he?
Now just a little bit of chisme, in one of the novela magazines I read that Sergio Mayer (luigi) had a baby daughter last October with Jaime Camil's sister. The baby was adorable. That makes Fernie an uncle.
And since this is my first novela, someone please, please tell me that Fern and Lety will be together in the end? Only kidding. I don't want to know anything until the very end.
Thank you everyone.
I can't complain about Aldo's manners. They're impeccable. And that's why I'm so suspicious of him. :-) I wouldn't compare him to Eddie Haskell, though. Eddie was very mannerly, but he never fooled anyone except Beaver. Aldo, on the other hand, seems to charm everyone. So either he really is perfect, or everyone else on this show is an idiot.
But here's the thing: we already know that everyone else on this show is an idiot. Even with that, I suppose it's still possible that Aldo is perfect. But I'd be really annoyed if this third-wheel interloper who showed up halfway through this novela turns out to be the man of Lety's dreams, after all the hardships that she and Fern have been through together.
I just refuse to believe that Aldo the also ran will end up with Lety. It goes completely against the traditional novela pattern. The second male never gets the lead woman.
As for Aldo beginning to lose it -last night I watched the music show and during a commercial break they showed a montage of all three evening novelas. It went by in the speed of light BUT it showed a confrontation between Aldo and Fern outside of Conceptos in today's clothes and Aldo takes a swing at Fern. There was a fast shot of Fern and Lety apparently in some store and he said something and stalked away from her leaving her upset and finally poor deluded Alicia holding a wedding dress. Since we have TWO hours tonight maybe we'll see some action. Since all of them were in "today's clothing" with luck we'll see those scenes before Easter. (Sarcasm intended))
Probably not but it would make him a lot more interesting.
I hate the way he charms and hypnotizes everyone! It's like he opens his mouth and they immediately fall under his spell!!!!
Fernando is passionate, open, childish, sincere and you feel like you really know how he is feeling.
Aldo on the other hand is a mystery to me. I just can't get the homing in and flirting with everyone.
I'm happy to see at least Tomas and Fernando aren't swayed by his mumbo jumbo.
I can't wait until tonight!!!!
Carrie L.
Anon 12:41 And how about his equally impactado look when she asked him for 500 mil pesos?
Jeanne
Am I the only one or is everyone in this show obsessed with pictures. Lety, Fern,Tomas and now Alcia hovering over and kissing pictures. Aldo hasn't reached that stage yet but he is a picture freak too.
[my "captions" actually said "lomitas" and in my mind I heard lobitos but neither is right, probably captions missed the "pa" as usual. :)]
I also missed the intials drawing, the sandwich hand off and the pearl. Guess I should stop trying to write while watching. :)
For his next gift, he should try to find something that isn't so easy to stomp on, like a piece of coral.
(I thought I heard "lobitos" on the necktie too. That was the word I couldn't remember.)
Jeanne
For some reason I can't imagine Aldo talking about Fern's lips, although that would be funny if he did. :)
Jeanne
Mi casa es su casa!!!
That said, he is definitely behaving like the infantil that Omar says he is (takes one to know one).
Jeanne, who has been listening to too much psychobabble from Aldo, who is very, very skilled at psychobabble
(That comforts me a little.) Fern & Marcia have to know deep down that they should not be living together, it will be interesting to see who puts an end to it first.

500,000.00 MXN = 45,291.20 USD
That's at today's conversion rate. I use the website:
http://www.xe.com/ucc/convert.cgi
I usually use the site when I am converting to Euros, but it does over a hundred world currencies. $45,291.20 is about right for the car Alicia had, I guess.

On the usa foro (people in usa, posting in english, though many take a chance and post on the other foro which has got, mostly, spoilers) I saw this (they were discussing that he dropped/lost the pearl): "...when Lety was talking to him about how she couldn't get over Fernando. Aldo had the ugliest, meanest look on his face. Watch out when you don't do what he wants!"
My problem, and inquiry, is: until somebody actually comes at you with a knife, how can you tell if a native spanish-speaker is angry?
I never turned on univision until the last 3 weeks of Alborada and I don't speak spanish. (Like so many others, Alborada swept me away.) Fortunately I found this blog right away. (I never thanked all of you before so I'm finally thanking you now.
For 10 months I've been rushing to get home at 8 to see lfmb -- though I neverbefore planned my life around a tv show. It's a comfort to come here to find out what happened when I can't figure it all out. Thank you. Thank you.)
My point is this: it seems to me a lot of spanish-language words come out from over the BACK TEETH of native spanish-speakers (not to mention it takes twice as many syllables), so people who look mad from trying to say those words aren't really mad at all. So how are you supposed to know if somebody is angry from looking at their face?
All this passionate talking going on, and all they are discussing is stuff like, for instance: if broccoli is difficult to cook or not and even whether to buy it or not. Sheesh. (No wonder stuff 'sounds better' in spanish -- it's way more interesting.)
Another foro comment I saw, apparently was from somebody that isn't watching lfmb for the comedy, but wants a lot of action and to heck with all the funny stuff: "I am reading a book while I wait for something to actually happen..."
I love to giggle which I watch the show. The next day or so, I use the free internet at the library and have extra giggles. Thanks again for being able to come in here and laugh some more.
A lot of it was like "how to cook the broccoli", etc. A lot of repeating phrases and ideas. I get the feeling that I would feel the same about La Fea. Everything they say sounds so much better in Spanish!
I have question for Jeanne if you check in this afternoon. Are you a Harry Potter fan? I noticed you have mentioned him in a couple of your posts.
I am a huge fan of the books and movies and got hooked on them through my kids. Now when the books come out we each buy our own copies so we can read them right away and don't have to share! ha
Carrie L.
I went to a conference of educators of the deaf a couple of years ago and found that there are summer literacy camps for deaf students centered on Harry Potter books. Here is why: most deaf kids have hearing parents (90%). That makes the kids very different in their families. If deaf kids have deaf parents, they learn language at the normal rate comparable to hearing peers, albeit usually in American Sign Language. That makes them like the Weasley family, where everyone is a witch or wizard. However, the comparison for the deaf child of hearing parents was rather like the wizard with a Muggles family. Additional comparisons center around Hogwart's, the boarding school. Deaf kids may attend such schools; most of the states have at least one boarding program. The kids feel more at "home" in the culture of the school than in the real home because everyone understands.
This was such an interesting concept! It was deaf teachers who first noted the similarities and established the literacy camp someplace in the east coast, and other programs have also used the concepts. That's part of why I like the Potter books so much, too. I doubt that JK Rowling had any idea how it would appeal to deaf folks.
Jeanne
When Fern took Lety out, he did not have to take her to his favorite places, thus he did not have to show any affection in public (at the time he did not want to) And thank you to whomever stated that Lety felt guilty and was always commenting to Fern "What about Marcia?" and Fern replied "That's my problem not yours" Fern was only intimate with lety "in the dark/away from public places" so I got that he did not want to be seen with her as a "couple". If she was his mistress and beautiful, you better believe he would be all over her like a cheap suit.LOL
