No puede ser! Tonki on the hit list? That witch!! Beckster called it, Thelma's talkin' to herself in the mirror and that means the serial killer has awoken. You did a great job of describing poor Tonki's "execution." What kind of kook would order an animal's execution and then watch from a window for fun? Thelma must die and I hope Orlando escorts her to hell!

Maybe when Mariana is unconscious she will have a vision of Marianita and Jose happy together in heaven and thereby find peace. Or maybe she will just die. I'm rooting for door #1.

What a fun recap, (SO much better than the actual episode, as usual), and you posted so early, a treat for we West coasters. I laughed the whole way through. Thanks for an especially good one!
 

Thanks for the early recap, it got my day started with laughs. You're right about threatening or insulting their manhood...it gets them to do anything! So weak.

Great job Lynn, I missed the episode last night (VCR did not tape with timer set - WHY???) but I feel like I saw the whole thing thanks to your vivid description of everything.

Tonqui thing is really bothering me!!! It's bad enough that these novelas have the dying kids in them all the time but not the dogs too! Remember Bertha poisoning her own faithful dog Lucas? I cried when that happened. Leave the dogs alone malditas!
 

I couldn't believe what I was watching with Evil Thelma and Orlando trying to get poor Tonki killed. And watching! That was over the top.

I always thought that Mariana and Jose would get together. Maybe it will be in el cielo together with Marianita? If she confesses on her deathbead to Don Don Loco, there won't be much he can do about her besmirching the family honor.

I am guessing that Emilio is eventually going to do some praying. If he promises God to let Angel marry Alina if he lives he is an even bigger doofus than I thought he was.

Thelma is soooo evil! Maldita, mujer suela, mosca muerta, golfa ,sinverguenza, etc, etc. I agree that she and Orlando should come to a very bad end! Becky T
 

I can't stand this much longer. If they kill Donki/Tonki...that's it for me. I'm trying to keep a list of things this novela says can kill you : 1]water 2] an open window 3] being in love 4] arguing with someone I'll tell you what can kill you....Thelma can kill you. I am also trying to think of a fate that is horrible enough for Thelma and DonLoco. Perhaps having them stranded together on some deserted isle [think ''Lost'']. Don could keep her in a cave, and Thelma could spend the rest of her days escaping and trying to kill Don. Should we send Orlando with them??? Maybe Max could marry Auntie and have to endure her singing and costumes for the remainder of his days. Where is this all headed? Help me. I missed this episode because my daughter dropped by. I have not watched any of the scenes of the poor little girl in the hospital or her funeral. Can't stand to watch children suffering and dying. And trust me folks, the last thing you ever want to say to someone who has just lost a child is that he/she can have more children. This is a terrible, terrible thing to say. ~~~Susanlynn
 

Yes the dog and kid death/ abuse scenes are the worst! This wasnt all so bad, but Im like Susanlynn, I havent watched any of the parts where little Marianita died. I saw her flat line with Jose but I didnt believe she was dead so I didnt get upset. Seeing the real death would have bothered me.

In Barrera I hated seeing the villaness Sybils character (Veronica?) as child being abused. Ugh! Cant they just tell us about it so we dont have to watch. Especially when you dont feel like the abuser gets their just rewards for the abuse.

Thelma and Orlando are comical in their evil. She really is doing a fine job of shaking these simple country folk up!
 

Speaking of Barrera, remember when Dona Jacinta opened the window at night in her grandbaby's nursery so the poor little infant would die? (The baby was illegitimate so did not deserve to be her heir I think was her motivation.) The Thelma-trying-to-kill-Angel scene reminded me of this.

I agree, the treatment of children and animals in these shows is dreadful. They give me the willies.
 

I agree with you about the stupid conversation in the hall. Emiliooo spends all that time saying he'll be different and then the first time he sees her he gets on her about Angel. He is an abuser as much as Don Loco, this is very abusive behavior. These people are all horrible. Even Elias, who seemed as pure as can be, is taking advantage of his wife's death (!!) to try and score with Soledad. They are all reprehensible. Luba and Gaspar are the only ones that I can think of that aren't stupid or two-faced. Even the servants could do more than they do but choose not to. Santos is a dumbass and too macho, even if he did come around, and Rosita is dumb for automatically assuming the rapist knocked her up rather than from all the sex with Santos before that. Who else? Nora, maybe, isn't on the dumbass list. And maybe Hugo, who has the good sense to just disappear.
 

Yes! I remember Jacinta doing that. And Yes Hugo did disappear! Where did he go? Why are all these people so stupid? Is it the water? The air? The lamen noodles?

To follow up on the cold air theory I swear I heard Emilio explain to Rosita or Vera that Alina was passed out (from her night ride in the rain) becasue of the cold air. Then to follow this silly train of thought I have a personal story to share. I have a friend who dates/imports younger women from central american countries. One day he told me a story of how his girlfriend was certain she had become ill from being in the mountains (cold air) and then back down to the coast (hot air) in one day. Seems this superstition with the air is rampant south of the border.
 

I feel really sorry for you recappers to have such an unsympathetic galan. He's as bad, in his way, as Unibrow was - but at least the writers made Unibrow's part smaller and smaller - Emilio's cold, mean face is everywhere in this show. Hope your next one is better. I like our hunk in Destilando, especially because 46-year old virgins are so rare. Course we can't say that any more I guess, he got his last night.
 

The whole two properties thing adds a lot of unecessary confusion. We've got the canefield in Veracruz with one set of workers and servants (Hugo and Alfonsina) and the Coffee Plantation in SE with another set of servants, etc. I really don't think they needed all that.
 

Oh thanks for rubbing it in Melinama! Emilio really is a complete dud. At least Unibrow was somewhat comical, but Emiliooooo...absolutely forgettable. Wait a minute, whom were we talking about? heh heh

Your hero on Destilando is a major hunk. I like him because #1) he's good-looking without being the typical pretty-boy, #2) he has a good physique without being over-developed, #3) he has a natural charisma which I haven't seen since FC in Alborada, #4) he's a good kisser, not a lamprey wide-mouth suck face (ahem, Emilio). You DA recappers hit the jackpot with Rodrigo. Have fun!

That Thelma adds a new dimension to " a woman scorned". Is her aunt on valium or something? She glosses over T's homicidal plots.

Thinking Tonki would die was making me sick. I hate "Old Yeller" and the fools who made it. There I was, a little kid, loving that dog and the story, and then, he gets rabies & dies! I was devastated. I was always leery of kid & animal movies after that.
Never saw "Bambi" and never will.

Back to Duelo - Emilio, Alina, Soledad, Don Loco - YAWN!

Luba is my favorite character now.
 

I agree Sylvia, Emiliooo's good looks didn't even last one episode. Once he opened those "lamprey wide mouthed such face" lips it was all over for me. You're so funny...
I hope Rodrigo's appeal lasts longer -- I'm definately tuned in for now.

Alina and el bobo de Emilio have no chemistry. Their conversations are always so S T U P I D! For crying out loud Emilio--get rid of that cara de palo. Being handsome can only carry you so far.

I too am getting tired of their he/she doesn't love me line.

And that good for nothing nurse helped Thelma bring Angelito to the brink of death. If she's sleeping in the house it's because he is her full-time charge and she should check in on him at night!

What’s with Thelma figuring ways to blame Floralina for literally EVERYthing? (I guess a loca like her doesn’t really need reasons to be illogical).

What was the sign Luba got from the Virgencita? The bullet hole already in her son (that’s destilando sangre a little)? That went totally by me.

Whoa, I thought for sure Soledad was busted when Don Loco went into the barn to harass her a little before he leaves for the D. F. She’ll never know how lucky she was there.

I have never understood why well-meaning relatives, even with the best of intentions, don’t get it that a mother who has just lost a child is NOT interested in hearing about having another to “replace” the one who died, or to adopt, or whatever. That is one of the most grievous things someone can say in such a situation (believe me, I know this!) The writers didn’t have to do that with Malena and Mariana just so Mariana could show us her acting ability. That annoyed me. Two days after the funeral is not the time to be talking about new replacement children (actually, NEVER is the time). Just had to get that off my chest.

I hope Angel can tell Emilio that he heard Emilio’s wife wishing him dead. This woman is pure evil.

Hey just wanted to say great recap. I also wanted to help answer alot of peoples question about how someone could die because a window was open. The first thing is she unbuttoned his shirt a little to expose his chest.She opened the window because when someones immune system is down and with his coughing the cold air could give him pneumonia. Which could be deadly especially if his immune system is down already. As far as death by glass of water?? Beats me!! I cannot figure that one out. Well looks like Thelmas hit list is growing and she is on her way to becoming a serial killer. Well I would like to add Orlando to my list of people that I think she will add to her list. In the end I think she will try to kill him too. Afterall taking Emilio from Alina to puebla has proved very hard. Even with his brother sick he did not leave Alina. I think he could take her to puela with him saying his brother would want her there. I do feel sorry for him because he will blame his love for Alina. I am glad Tonquie did not die that would have been to sad. I too cried watching ol yeller. By the way anyone know when this novella is supposed to end?

Sorry but I wouldn't put Gaspar above Santos. Sorry. Santos turned into a wimp because he doesn't want to kill his father. That's the root of the whole problem. He should stand up to him, I agree, but I don't see how Gaspar is all that better, rambling on about his muñequita and sneaking out to see her at the Rinconada knowing that he could get killed. So Gaspar is braver than Santos but not much wiser.
