La Fea Más Bella #232 3/15/07 Alicia Is Queen For a Day

Carla gives Fern some advice on how to get over Lety: He needs to focus on the stuff that bugs him about her. He agrees to give it a try. After some thinking [which seems to cause him pain, you know, like when you work out muscles you don’t usually use -- in this case, that muscle is Fern’s brain], Fern says he can’t think of anything that bothers him about her. Lety has no defects, she is super marvelous and beautiful. Carla finds this hard to believe. She says she saw Lety’s photo so she knows that Lety is a tiny bit ugly. Fern objects to this.

Lety and Aldo are visiting a waterfall. Aldo helps Lety find the rainbow created by the waterfall’s mist. Omar takes their picture from afar and sends it to Fern.

Fern admits that when he first met Lety, he did not think she was hot. Carla says “Come on, she’s downright ugly!” Fern points out that beauty is in eye of the beholder. Her ugliness doesn’t bother her because she is not ugly. On the other hand, he admits that lately, Lety has treated him badly. She has become cold and sangrona [disagreeable, unpleasant]. Carla advises Fern that when he starts to think about sweet little Lety, he should remember those things he doesn’t like, and above all, he should remember that she spent the night with another man. Fern refuses to believe that last part, and says that Lety was brought up very well and has principals. Carla points out that Lety was willing to sleep with him even though he had a girlfriend. Fern doesn’t think that counts because their love was special. Just then he receives the picture of Lety and Aldo on his phone from Omar and becomes despondent. He becomes angry decides that Carla is right; he must forget Lety, that ungrateful traitor. His bottom lip trembles. Carla ceases the opportunity to stroke his hair [can you blame her?].

Aldo are still at the waterfall. Lety tells Aldo about the PG’s advice that she must let her pain flow like water. She says she really wishes she could let the pain over Fern flow away. Aldo says that would make him the happiest guy in the world. Omar is hiding behind a rock but is close enough that Lety and Aldo hear Omar’s phone ring. Omar answers and Fern tells him he’s decided to forget Lety, and he doesn’t want to know anything more about her. Omar says he doesn’t believe it. To prove it, Fern a picture of himself and Carla and sends it to Omar. By now, Fern is furious and he yells Omar that he is going to forget that gar… that gar… he can’t bring himself say “gargolita” and instead says “Leticia.” Omar sees the picture and is impressed. Meanwhile, Lety and Omar are standing right behind him with their arms crossed. Lety suddenly yells, “What the heck are you doing here Mr. Carvajal?”

At Conceptos, Lopez has announces to the employees that Marcia has told him to put Alicia in charge until Lety gets back. Alicia dramatically takes an oath of presidential duty and quickly names Tomas the V.P. They cuartel points out that he is already a V.P. Alicia formally re-names him V.P. of finance. She sends cuartel to work. Cuartel can’t believe it and they have to hold PM to keep her from bum-rushing Alicia.

Tomas holds Alicia’s hand and leads her to the presidential office. He tells her he is at her service. She is initially annoyed by his attention then suddenly turns on the purring kitten act. She tells him she has a special assignment for him and asks him to come back in half and hour.

Lety takes Omar’s phone and throws it in the water. She screams “What do you want from me? Why do you care what I do with my life? Why can’t you leave me alone?” Aldo urges Omar to leave. Omar agrees to go back to Conceptos right away. Aldo tells her to stop playing into their games. Lety snaps at Aldo too and yells at him to stop pressuring her and to leave her alone.

The cuartel grabs Tomas in the lobby. They call him a traitor for supporting Alicia in Lety’s absence. Tomas says he’s just humoring her to see how far she will go. They seem to buy it.

Carla continues with her advice on life. She tells Fern that it’s not important where you are, only how you feel. She reminds him that he promised Omar that he was motivated to forget Lety. Carla thinks this a good time to make a move and put her head on Fern’s shoulder. Fern jumps up yelling “Aha!” He realizes that Carla, with all her psychological training, has been brainwashing him. He proclaims that will not be manipulated. He says he doesn’t want anything to do with Lety or Marcia or her. After some hesitation, he runs away. Carla thought bubbles, “Darn, I almost had him!” but she does not plan to give up.

Alicia twirls around in Lety’s office. She thanks Lety for disappearing. Tomas to the office returns for his orders. Alicia becomes the sex-kitten and teases and taunts him. Tomas is loving it. Finally, she asks who Aldo’s great love is. He turns away from her. His is having trouble breathing but managers to say that he can not tell her. She reaches over his shoulder and puts her hand in his shirt. He visibly shakes like some sort of marital aid [I know… ewhhh!!]. Is it really so important for her to know that she is willing to do this? …No, actually she has a something else in mind: She asks Tomas to make out a check one million pesos! His eyes widen like saucers and his nostrils flare in and out.

After a commercial break, Tomas says he’s not authorized to just sign over a check to anyone. Alicia says it’s a presidential order.

The cuartel are at lunch already and their whining about Alicia. They decide she will get fired for her antics.

Tomas agrees to write the check if Alicia agrees to never ask about Aldo’s love life again. He runs off to his office. Alicia can’t believe her luck on her one day as president.

Aldo returns to his cabin alone. He realizes how badly he behaved by pressuring Lety. He calls himself an egoista. He only thought about his feelings, and not hers. He sits and thinks aloud that now he really feels jealous of that Fern. Meanwhile, Lety is out on his balcony listening.

Alicia critiques Lety’s decorating, especially the Monster Ladyparts Shell of Doom. She calls PM and tells her to send Lopez to see her. Lopez runs into her office literally 2 seconds later. [Okay folks, if you have anything to treat indigestion, pause here a minute and go get it, you will need it in a second.] Lopez leans over her desk and puckers up for a kiss (bleh!). Alicia is disgusted. He wants a reward for making her the president. She pinches his lips with her long nails. He squeals in pain. She tells him making her president is not enough for what he is asking, but if he does her one more big favor, she may see it fit to return the favor. She wants him to decorate the office to make it fitting of a presidential princess. He begins to protest then realizes it’s better for him to just do as she says.

Tomas in his office with a check made out to Alicia but he can not bring himself to add the amount.

Alicia calls PM again and demands coffee. PM says it’s on its way and profusely apologizes. The entire cuartel comes in, each with a cup of coffee for her. She stands in front of the desk and the women all begin to manicure her nails and pet her hair. She sees that Sarah is not fawning enough and calls her lazy so Sara begins to brush lint off a chair. Alicia insults them a bit before sending back to their desks. One by one they leave her office. Back in the vortex, the ladies decide they did not appreciate how good they had it with Lety. They agree to beg Lety’s forgiveness when she gets back.

Aldo is still verbally thrashing himself for being a jerk and taking advantage of Lety. Lety walks in from the balcony and says she is here to explain herself. She says she mad, really mad!

Lopez goes to see if Tomas has the check ready. He explains to Tomas that if he (Lopez) shows Alicia that he helped her out, she will “compensate” (wink-wink) him [Do you think Lopez was born a dirty old man, or did he develop that skill? He sure seems to be a born-natural]. Tomas does not like the idea of Alicia “compensating” Lopez. He tries to mask his rage, though he can’t keep his fist from tightening. After he leaves, Tomas thanks Lopez for helping find the solution to his problem. He shakes his fist some more.

Fernando sits in a nice high-rise hotel room with floor to ceiling windows and a great view of more high-rises. He declares that he visited Statue of Liberty, therefore today is his Day Of Liberty. He will break his chain to all those women. There is a knock at the door and of course it’s Carla. Sees her through the peephole and begins to walk away but then decides to let her in. Carla comes in and says she feels bad that he misinterpreted her advice [yeah, right!]. She assures him that they will only interact in the most professional of manners. She gets up to leave. Fern stops her.

Alma, what a gal, sitting through the tedious Alicia/Tomas/cuartel scenes and recapping them.
I do the super ff through them while yawning. :)
Loved the look Fer gave Carla when she said Lety was "verdad, fea" was perfect. Also liked the way he called Carla on her manipulating him. All I could think of (with much affection) was "it takes one to know one".
Felt so sorry for Lety when she yelled/asked Omar why he & Fer kept spying on her, messing in her life.
I flashed back to the nacos in her neighborhood that keep taunting her.
Poor Lety is desperate to be away from all of it.
Run, Omar, with your tail between your legs, back to your clueless master Fer.

Thanks Alma! Since I missed this one could you tell me if Lety or Aldo were actually able to see the picture of Carla and Fern on Omar's phone (or was this just more suspense for us the audience)?

Thanks for all you recappers do for us non-Spanish speakers!
LAURA

Alma and all recappers--ditto to Laura's comments--your efforts and humor are much appreciated by those Spanish-challenged among us.
It's been really hard to watch Aldo in his hard-court press on Lety. She thinks Fer doesn't love her, and Aldo knows he does. Aldo knows just what buttons to push to look better than Fer--boo, Aldo!!! Very manipulative and selfish. Is descraciado the right word for this?
Radarr

laura -I don't think Lety and Aldo actually saw the picture, but they saw and heard Omar's reaction to, so they basically got the idea that Fern was with another woman.
miranda

Thanks, Alma, for the terrific recap! I agree with Anya--you're our heroine for sitting through that Malicia/Cuartel/Tomás nonsense, much less recapping it!

Carla continues to amaze me with her annoying perseverence in trying to sway Fern. I send him good energy, then try to remind myself it's JUST TELEVISION!

Looks like our QFTD (love that title, Alma!) is not having a fantasy. It looks more and more like the real deal. If so, I hold my breath every time she goes within reach of Lety's desk drawer with The Diary. (My Mantra: it's JUST TELEVISION!)

Jeanne

Thanks Miranda for clarifying that for me!
LAURA

I think that someone needs to let Crazy Carla know that when a man runs away from you when you approach him, it's not a good sign!

Thank you very much Alma...I had to watch Ugly Betty...where she is reasonably unattractive, but smart and other characters are far more likeable in a snarky kind of way...

I believe I would like Lety far more if she would stand up for herself. I realize she was taunted for being ugly, but as an adult she has chosen to have that identity. Caro offered her help and she refused any help, to the point of not even allowing them to shampoo her hair. So if you chose that identity then own it, don't always retreat behind it.

Yesterday someone noted the weird way Lety hugged Aldo. Not meaning any offense, but it looks like the hugs "retarded" adults give, all scrunched up & little kid. The spastic dancing really bothers me too, it is like something is off there. Lety should know how to hug, her family is fairly affectionate & Tomas also...it is just weird.

Crazy Carla is way too fixated on Fernando! What's next? Tie him up and throw him in her closet??
I hope Fern high tails it back to Mexico pronto!
I think he and Lety both need to swear off the opposite sex for a while.
Poor Lety has known nothing but hurt and treason from any love interests. I guess to me it makes sense she would react the way she does. She has always been hurt and expects to be hurt again. I do think that Aldo comes on way too strong. He should back off and not pressure her.
Alicia as president? I still don't know if it's real. It seems like a very long dream sequence.
I guess that's not likely now.
Why is Lety taking so long before returning to work? The inmates have taken over the business.

Carrie L.

Carrie L., I loved your comment, "the inmates have taken over the business". That made me laugh. Why do the employees have to kowtow so much to authority in Mexico. Like all the cuartel bringing La Oxy coffee, etc. Is this really the norm in Mexico? I haven't been there so don't know.

I have never seen a woman pursue a man so strongly as Crazy Carla does Fernando. He has literally ran away from her and she has the gall to show up at his room. My gosh, I would be running for the hills if I was Fernando. Hope he doesn't succumb to her pressure while he is at a low point so far from home.

I agree with the comment about Lety's spastic dancing, et al. Lety is fea enough without having to do those extra things. I also hate the way she scrunches her mouth up to look ugly. Sometimes I could see how a man could fall for her and then she makes those faces or dances like a spastic twig and I am totally turned off. It's like she is two characters -- one is strong and normal and appealing, the other is just weird and no one would find the qualities attractive. It is getting far along enough in this novella for Lety to lose some of the weirdness. I'm also tired of her constant coldness and anger with Fernando. Has she never heard of forgive and forget. He has apologized and told her he loves her over and over. I can't imagine why he keeps hanging in there.

Just my opinion.

Connie

connie, the cuartel is just messing with Oxi's head. They are letting her have her fun and when Lety comes back, they are sure Oxi will be given the boot.

P.S. I was translating the Juan Soler femenine products, post yesterday after work and it sounds just as crazy in English. If anybody interested I'll post it.

My hope is that Alicia's Queen for the day antics turn out to be the end for both she and Tomas. If he gives her that check and from the preview for tonight's episode, it looks like he did and she cashes it, that is almost $90,000 USD (I checked on a currency exchange website). I do not know a businesswoman/man in the world who would let that slide once it is discovered.

As for Juan Soler's new business venture. I want to know and yet, I am afraid, very afraid...

I was totally p**sed off during this episode and barely slept last night.

Fern gets some points for seeing Carla for what she is but loses them all by being an idiot when he sent that picture to Omar. Granted he had no way of knowing that Lety would see it but it was still stupid. He annoyed me no end with his switch to almost calling Lety a gargolita after so passionately defending her. I felt almost sorry for him when he was in his hotel room still looking at Lety's picture but that went away when he asked that perro to stay. If he plays mattress bingo with her I will be so over him and Lety.

Aldo's going off on Lety was scary and just another indication that deep down he isn't a what he pretends to be. If I were Lety I'd be really bothered about a man who screams at me in a jealous rage but lately she is too dumb to notice it.

Lety's reaction to seeing that picture was way over the top. For days she has been treating Fern like something she scraped off her shoe, telling him to stay away from her and now after she has spent a whole day and night playing kissy face games with Aldo has the nerve to be annoyed that Fern might be taking her orders and trying to move on. She really is a dog in the manger and I'm at a low point in liking her or giving a fig what happens to her.

Omar will be the death of me yet and is the only reason I'll watch the show tonight. When he started to cross that bridge and than looked down and crawled back to where he started I almost choked with laughter. I was drinking tea and had to spit it back in the cup or spray the room.

As for the Queen, Tomas, headlicker Lopez and the cuartel the less said the better.

I detest that sneak Carla. She is really playing with Fern's head. The only purpose other than causing trouble that she could serve is if she can convince Fern to break away Marcia's stranglehold on him. What kind of viper preys on a man as vulnerable as Fern? She is nothing more than Aldo in skirts.

I couldn't help thinking that if Fern really wanted to get over Lety the first thing he would do is erase that picture on his computer but he didn't do it so maybe CC's advice isn't getting to him as much as it appears on the surface.

I can only hope that Omar calls him and tells him about Lety throwing his cell phone away when she saw the picture or if Marcia calls to bug him tonight before he does something unforgivable with the she dog.

I'm so hating everyone but Omar at this point. I've never seen so many people who need a class in basic communication skills.

Janet

Janet, Carla doesn't just stick to skirts. She has bathrobes and leggings, too. And I'm not sure I would call that little plaid thing a skirt. Looked more like a bandana to me. All part of a sinister master plan, obviously...

Jeanne

Ok, I was sooooo excited when both Lety and then Fer stated they needed time to be alone. I thought great, this is what I asked for the night before and the Ocampo Gods are giving it to me! Yay! I'm lucky, I'm lucky...Then....it looks like it was a tease. Lety ran back to find Aldo, and Fer opened the door for that Catwoman. Ugh! I'm so sick of these useless interactions, if I weren't a recapper, and this blog wasn't here I probably wouldn't watch much of it anymore. Though I will agree with previous posters that handsdown this novela even at its worst beats (ha, pun) the usual wife beating, husband stealing, who's my real daddy, long lost half brother novelas, so I do still feel fortunate to have it on. I'm waining though....Lety and Fer please stop paying attention to external sources and pay attention to yourselves. Thank you!

when the distressing times on lfmb last so long I get antsy for some funnies, I'd be glad to see "the battle for the remote" (see area re: ald's new business venture) mar.:
my 1 to 10 can't-stand-it-in-english might be a 5.
If You Translate We Will Read.
doyou think we can stand it?

did alicia in her art critique describe it the way WE are thinking of it ? ? ? ? ? ?

a couple I knew were filling out a ratingyourmate-type-questionform in a magazine and the lady wrote down lotsa stuff and asked him why he wasn't writing, and he said - there's nothing wrong with you. (Thanks, Mar., for translating that "he can't think of anything that bothers him about her.") sigh.

hooray.
lettie finally tells ald "to stop pressuring her."

connie: donferni still hasn't been forgiven by his father - he put his hand on his dad's arm and requested to be forgiven and his dad yanked his arm away from his son's hand

I don't have chameleon eyes but have no captions to distract me and I agree w/Miranda -- I don't think lettie saw the picture but lettie and ald figured out omar's reaction. (I had typed L&A but figured some in here would phreak/flip out.)

k: you missed my 2 personal favs: amnesia and twins

Well, it's about time Lety told Aldo to back off. After all, it hasn't been all that long since the discovery of the Incriminating Letter, right? A couple of months at most? (The way days expand and contract on this show makes it really difficult to get a handle on how much time has actually passed)
If Fernando hops into bed with Carla, I will be seriously annoyed. Bad enough that he doesn't make a definitive break with Marcia when he knows (on a conscious level yet)it will never work out. Still, I can forgive Fern. Unlike Tomás, who is walking proof of the old Russian saying "Men fall in love with what they see. Women fall in love with what they hear." If he actually listened to the vicious bile that's always coming out of Alicia's mouth, he wouldn't think she was such a goddess. (Unless that goddess happened to be Kali or Hecate maybe.)

So Lety is ticked off. So what is she going to do about it other than something stupid and is she mad at Fern being with another woman, forgetting that she is with another man and in far more damning circumstances or is she mad at Aldo for pushing her. In any event she is an emotional five year and I'm with whoever else said they were sick of her. PG told her she would have to fight for what she wants but she just sulks and runs. She should take a lesson from snaky Carla who is going after what she wants.

I'm with all the people who were excited when Lety told Aldo to please stop pressuring her. Last words out of her mouth were that she's still mad... I hope it doesn't turn out that she says "I'm mad at Fern, not you, Aldo." Because she should be mad at Aldo too!

But I'm even more annoyed with Carla these days for the way she just talks and talks and talks.

It does look as though Alicia's not having a fantasy after all... but it sure is a weird storyline.

"It does look as though Alicia's not having a fantasy after all... but it sure is a weird storyline."

That's what I call a six-tequila plot-twist. At least I hope the writers were drunk when they came up with it. At least they'd have an excuse.

a six tequila plost twist, LOL, I like that one. I'll have to remember that. It brought me back to my first tequila night (long time ago), not the best time of my life but looking back it was pretty funny, or so I am told.

/mab,

I guess it's worth a laugh but I believe as it stands now only two interested in reading it. If anything else it's spanish practice?

LOL!i believe i have mutated coz i found myself sleeping with ma eyes wide open and i blame it all on six shot terquila episode...

RINA

Lety is starting to remind me of an old lady. She walks like a grandmother who is very unsure of herself. In fact Aldo seems to be always guiding her in some way. I used to help my grandmother walk when she was in her 80's. I can't believe what he or Fernando see in her. To have two handsome men attracted to such a fea is beyond me. Yes, she has a wonderful personality (when not cold towards Fernando) and maybe she is dynamite in bed but there is something that is not natural in these relationships.

Anon 8:04, ROFL, good one, maybe it's the dress & shoes.

Mari Pacheco, if it's not the dress or the shoes, maybe it's the braid that she never combs out.

Any by the way, enough of calling her Crazy Carla, Let's call her what she is "Carla the ho"

okay lola let's not rule the braid out. Yes Carla the ho, I am ready to leave her waaay behind on one of those cross country bus trips we take.

oh who am I kidding i can't call her that and not feel funky. Oh well, she's back to crazy carla

anoy 08:04
Well I totally agree, I watched the opening where she runs down the beach and yes indeed that is spastic also...plus check out those bigfoot footprints in the sand..it looks really weird cause she is bare-foot and those foot prints are like Sasquatch goes to the beach. (have I mentioned how shallow I am)...as far personality..yeah whatever, I used to think it was kinda cute when it was just her & Fer..okay okay I thought it was really cute, and her first day back when she was in the dark slighty fitted suit, I was like okay, she had a tan and her face had cleared up, but once Aldo came on board, the childishness came out again. Yeah if I worked with her I would not be mean to her, if I knew two hot guys where after her, I'd be in the WTF club, but Lety is certainly no one I would hang with. Not that I am trying to be snobbish or I think I'm better, but the poor me thing, plus the pre-adolescent parental worship...not to mention the weird facial expressions...would just be way too much. I mean she is nice and all but.....emotionally she is way high maintenance...needing constant approval

my grandpappy said I got myself here but I'm a day late and a dollar short. Me too.

"Mari Pacheco said... /mab, I guess it's worth a laugh but I believe as it stands now only two interested in reading it. If anything else it's spanish practice? Fri Mar 16, 07:00"

Thanks for deciding for me -- I had no idea whether I could STAND it or not. Mostly I justwannaknow if the exsoccerstar-turnedactor (ald) is similarly guru-like in his real life or naught.

/mab

if anybody wants to use any pityspanish for my sake I still want to know what HECK is in spanish (altavista doesn't know here at the free i-t/libr and my paperback spanish dict doesn't know either). Mebbe in mexico they don't hava heck, mebbe they just say 7734 loud and clear.

also I wanted to know when Alicia was critiquing ThePainting did she seem to think it was what everybody in here thinks it is or not? She just seemed to be doing her special version of b-l-e-a-h but whatdoIknow.

Well lety went from rage at aldo for whatever reason to being in her moms kitchen cooking with him and being happy. Where was the inbetween? I can't stand it that they spend this time together. I am now taping it and watch it at night. When there are parts when they are together in a cosy style, I just close my eyes and fastforward a few feet. Fern is trying his best to avoid a sexual relationship with carla; however, he still has a weak spine. He lets carla in his apartment. He goes to dinner with her, knowing she is making advances. He is as wacked as lety.

/mab

I was including you in that sentence. While I do recap and am allowed posts I don't like just putting on any old thing (gotta think of what everyone else wants too).

Gotta ask, are you a secretary or work in an office? You signature makes me think that.

"Mari Pacheco said... /mab I was including you in that sentence."

si, gracias. I had no idea whether I wanted to read it or not. As another poster felt, I too was sort of "afraid".

on a scale of up to 10, did you takeaway a gurulike quality to what he was saying? or doesn't he seem like Ald? or and or and or? What did he sound like as a real person? (I guess I'm hoping he's nothing like Ald around his friends and/or around a reporter.)

yeah, I hangout, longtime, around people that say, offhand in ordinary conversation:
sub rosa,
de minimis,
and/or,
your inquiry is overbroad and burdensome -- it lacks specificity,
from the beginning of the world to the end thereof,
&c and when it [being around them] gets to you, over the decades, you start to giggle. I'm glad giggling is the way I went -- worse things canhappentoya.

/mab

of course giggling can land you in the doghouse ... at my church I don't always take my 'volunteer' assignments seriously -- knowing abso. NADA about conducting music, everytime I made a mistake I'd gigglegiggle, right there in front of everybody. (How's waving a stick, or just your arm, at people gonna makem sing bedda? oi.) I spose giggling can "get you out of" things bcs sometimes I get mercy. Mostly giggling is good. My dad had a ticklish sense of humor too and I copied him by putting a governor on it [mine] and a good set of brakes but it doesn't always work. Sometimes I don't make it home so I can roll around on the carpet holding my ribs, sometimes it begins to escape - as from a helium filled balloon. Mostly tho I manage not to actually laugh right in somebody's face - I make it home first, then laugh myself into a condition.

/mb

I don't find it to be guruish /mab but it's funny (probably because of my ed. comments)

bueno

muchisimas gracias to the person who fixed this site so all the text comes up at once w/o changing the text size at my end. thnxthnx

/mab

(people were talking about it forawhile and since our fix was told us, I just kept poking the button - am glad not to need to anymore)
