La Fea Más Bella #259 4/23/07 in which Fern gets unwelcome news from the wrong person.
Every time Aldo and Lety are together: kiss, giggle, sweet nothings. Over and over. (However, if I were Aldo I'd be concerned by this careful wording: "I want to be able to love you the way love me.") Occasionally a cloud passes over Lety's consciousness: "What am I going to tell Don Fernando?" Aldo says it will be hard to tell Fern now that Fern is being so noble...
The cuartel: (1) "How will we find the mysterious woman, so that we can win the dinner with Colunga and the trip?" They decide Omar and Caro are the only ones with clues; (2) "Those among us on Team Fern and Team Aldo must unite, or we will come to blows, and then how will we win the contest?"
Fern's conversation with his dad continues. "Lety is on some kind of astral voyage, she's confused, that's why she thinks she might want Aldo. She'll end up with me, I'm sure!" (Looks unsure.)
Omar visits Fern to gossip about discovering Aldo has taken an ordinary cooking job. Omar does upper-class mocking but Fern says Aldo's decision to take a job to pay his bills (now that he's sold everything to rescue Conceptos) is dignified and deserves admiration. Omar makes fun of Fern and Aldo for being bewitched by the little Gargoyle. Then he blabs about being smitten by Aurora! If it weren't so obvious it would be fun. Fern throws him out. Omar gets back at him later by taking a picture of him in Lety's old office: "Look at the little bat in his cave."
We find Alicia in Marcia's bed, stuffing her face with potato chips and reading cheesy magazines. When Marcia tries to throw her out, she pretends to be asleep and snores very loudly. "This is hell, this is horror!" exclaims Marcia as she leaves. Alicia goes back to chomping the chips.
An exhausted Tomas drags himself out of bed early in the morning because Lety has summoned him - "I need somebody to talk to in the flesh!" - to tell him she's chosen Aldo. Tomas brightens up and shouts: "Aldo's the best guy I've ever known!" - Lety says "Keep it down, I don't want my parents to know till I've told Fern." Tomas is ready for breakfast but Lety kicks him out! She eats later with her parents, her long face worries her mother, her father warns: "Don't do anything you'll regret." Roses arrive from Aldo.
That same morning, Marcia - who hasn't slept a wink - is sitting with a meager breakfast when Alicia struts in with an overflowing plate, complaining: "There's almost nothing in the refrigerator. And the interior decorating around here is horrendous, I'll change it." Marcia: "Now I understand how your ex-husband felt. You're intolerable, abusive, and stupid."
In the president's office, Fern and Lety simultaneously say "I have something important to tell you." After a few "you first"s, Fern says: "I told my father I love you. I'm not trying to pressure you, it just - made me happy." Lety makes a twisted face and tries to tell him HER news, but he says, "I'm in a big hurry to see my clients, but, see, I've left your desk in perfect order, just as you like it." He rushes out.
Caro and Lety rehash. "If you've decided for Aldo, I hope you'll drop your plan of wreaking vengeance on Omar." "Of course, I can't risk getting discovered. You invent something to tell Omar." "No, I can't! He's so stubborn." Caro's cell rings, it's Omar.
Meanwhile, Fern has come back and wants to see Lety. "How can she still be talking to Caro?" The cuartel says women can talk a long, long time about men. Aldo arrives, he also wants to see Lety. Fern says: "I'm first in line." Aldo leaves; Fern has to get back to his clients so he asks the cuartel to make sure Aldo doesn't get in first.
Caro, who in the end told Lety she didn't mind handling Omar, that it was in fact kind of amusing, goes to his office. He can't believe Aurora ran out on him. "Well, there's always a first time. And how about all the times you stood ME up?" "Well, that's my strategy." "Well, Aurora told me she doesn't like you and doesn't want to see you." Omar can't believe it and thinks Caro's fooling with him because she's jealous. She just laughs: "This time your seduction failed." As she leaves he soliloquizes: "Nobody rejects Omar Carvajal, it's an error."
Marcia does a little actual work. So, surprisingly, does Fern! He is promoting Conceptos to a bunch of potential clients, talking fast, showing them the hi-tech equipment (he wants them to have their commercials made at the Conceptos production company). They're pleased to hear Luigi works at Conceptos.
Meanwhile, Luigi visits Lety, saying "St. Aldo" has made him promise to make nice. He takes her to his studio, asks if "between us girls" he can call her Orni (short for platypus), shows her bits of his brilliance, tells her she'll never be as feminine as he (Luigi) is, and complains about the ugly cuartel. He is "stupefied" by HER brilliant perspective when she points out that the beauty of beautiful people is enhanced when contrasted to ugly people in the vicinity, therefore the feas are an advantage for Luigi.
Aldo and Fern meet outside Aldo's office. Fern shakes hands with Aldo and embraces him, simultaneously warning him: "This doesn't mean we're friends." Fern's doing it because he respects Aldo's decision to cook for a living, but Aldo thinks it's the loser's gracious gesture and says, "This is noble of you, considering that Lety chose me." "What?" The golden circle of goodbye encircles Fern's twitching, impactada face.

This was a mighty fast recap melinama, WOW. NICE
I'm soooo unhappy with this I don't care about the romance part, anymore. I laughed at the Omar & Fern antics and Lety & Luigi girl talk.
I think at this point Don Fern and the comedy is what is keeping me glued and even that's weakening.

Anonymous 10:43, I think what it meant was that Fern wanted to convince the clients that Conceptos was a good place to do business. Not actually sell Conceptos but show them what a great place it is.

I dunno, I didn't think Lety felt all that bad...not like the grief she felt when she thought she had to tell Aldo.

I clarified the place where I had said Fern was "selling" the place - as anonymous 11:24 said, I meant he was giving them the "hard sell" as we say.
I see no reason to watch this anymore. I was so heartbroken and cried when lety decided for aldo. Last week she promised her life to fern and aldo walked in on their kiss and she was impactado. This week, she gets together with aldo and tells him she loves him and fern is on the outside looking in. Thank God for fastforward, because I did not watch one kiss of lety/aldo. As soon as they got close, I would fastforward. He did this to get her love out of guilt. Even if fern and lety get together in the end, as most people are saying, it doesn't change the fact that she is losing her innocense. The look and acting that fern so loved and she is manipulative and she is using both. Fern never did that. When marcia tried to act affectionate in front of lety and curtel, fern was noticebly uncomfortable and he would move away. Never did he try and make lety jealous. On another note, fern is now in lety's office. Fern will now see lety come in with aldo and silently weep, as lety watched each day Fern come in with Marcia and she weeped. Also if fern and her got together without another man in the pic, then lety would have married fern w/o knowing for sure if others wanted her or how she faired with others. Still it is torture that fern will listen to them in lety's office. If I were him, I would leave the company and let her be a sleeze bag and pay in the end. Cause as soon as he would leave, she would have to reason to manipulate and then she would want him back. Food for thought??

Thanks for the recap, Melinama. Carrie, what part I found funny was when Fern was mimicking Aldo to the cuartel after he left. Beckster, LOL at the color wheel for Lety.
But now that she has chosen to be with good-will clothes wearing Aldo, it hardly matters to me how she dresses. And as for Lety choosing Aldo, I think a lot of it has to do with guilt. She lost it with guilt when he barged in her office and announced he sold everything. (The fact that he sold everything would have made me head for the hills.) She still feels guilty about Marcia, even though she should not because Fern never loved M that way. She definitely has that Catholic guilt thing happening. (I should know - 12 years of Catholic school.) But this is not an excuse and Lety is an asshat. And I have tried to not hate her for a long time because she is supposed to be the heroine. I don’t see how Lety is going to win the audience AND Fern back in 6 weeks. Poor Fern. It looked in the preview of tonite’s like he was avoiding Lety, who could blame him? It is not going to be entertaining to watch him suffer some more.

I find the choice of Aldo is completely unmotivated for these characters as we know them, and it seems to be purely a creation of the scriptwriters.
In the real world, she might choose someone like Aldo after being hurt by bad boy types, as she seems to say she is doing. But in this story, we the audience know that Fernando isn't really bad, and she also really knows it, and what's more, she really loves Fern more. It's very hard to watch, because you just can't suspend disbelief.

My guess is that Rosy miscalculated. She thought Juan Soler's charm would make him a more even match for Jaime. I bet she didn't expect everybody to detest Aldo. I think he was supposed to represent a free, honest, above-board guy who would contrast Fern's tight, full-of-secrets life. Somebody who offered Lety something that had no "but" attached. However, Fern's charms are so great that Aldo never had a chance. Also, I think we had to have this back-tracking (in Lety's growth) and second romance because the producers wanted to make more money so they extended the show. Such a mistake!
I have to say that I did something very similar to this once upon a time. A "bad boy" I was hopelessly in love with hurt me, and I turned to a "good boy" friend, and even told him I loved him. It didn't last, partly because my bad boy did not give up. I chose him in the end, and we're still married, 35 years later. But Lety is only doing what her guilty conscience is telling her is right, going with someone safe, honest and crazy about her. It is not fun to watch, but knowing that the show is soon to end, I figure reality will set in soon, and there will be lots more indecision on Lety's part. I like Melinama's take on why this happened. It makes sense! But things like this do happen, and the hero still ends up with the girl. As far as her innocence being lost, this actually shows it hasn't, because she is going with someone she feels obligated to, instead of the guy who rocks her world!

Melinama, with "lety's growth and second romance". Do you mean what I had said anonymous 8:08 a.m., that she needed to have a second person in her life; otherwise, she would have loved one person, married him and never knew what her capabilities were???? Six weeks of lety's bull s is too much to take. It would be hard watching fern in the little office, listening to letty and aldo; however, she did the same thing listening to fern and marcia.

Here's the deal...yeah in real life people make choices like Lety, but this is a TeleNovela and Lety and Fer had the chemistry of the century..one of those deals where you expect them to fight anything and everything to have each other...Well Fernando is doing that..Lety just seems like an indecisive spoiled child...which really she is spoiled...not in the traditonal way, but she can not see that her actions have consquences...everyone gets a free pass, but Fernando. If he were my friend, I'd be just like Omar, with Dude get over it...move on
Aldo, Aldo, Aldo. A more tactful person would have answered Fern's hug with "what was that for?" or "that's very nice of you," whether they thought Fern already knew or not... because if Fern doesn't know yet, it's not Aldo's place to tell him; and if Fern does know, Aldo's a creep to rub his nose in it.

Last night especially I just kept watching them together thinking he's too old for her to be silly in love with. It just doesn't look or feel right. Her face is so young and innocent looking and he's all weathered and wrinkled looking. No offense, but I can't get behind her parents being so in to him either. In her character's situation, do you think overprotective Robopop would really be that pleased with his supposed virgin, innocent, proper, only daughter getting involved with an oldish guy who had already been married and was a widower with all that history? Not likely.

Hardly need to comment since everyone has already said what I thought. All that mi amor junk makes me nauseous and just as we could have predicted, gutless Lety can't find a way to tell Fern and I'll take charge of your life Aldo steps in and does it for her. Granted Lety was trying to say something but she sure as hell could have been more forceful Now all of us have to suffer along with Fern while she plays out her little high school love story Bleah!

The old man and sea good one and yeah I agree. I also don't think that Robopo and Julieta know that Aldo was married before much less that his wife took off due to his neglect. They might think very differently of their golden boy is they knew.

Yes, Diane, it is totally offputting to see Aldo and Lety together. Also, did anyone notice how with their newly professed love they really weren't that physically close to each other much. A few kisses, but most of the time their bodies were not close together. Also, all the phony mi amour and lovestruck looks all of a sudden were a big turnoff.

What a miserable evening!!!! I kept having to close my eyes when Aldo and Lety kissed. It's always such a BAAAAAD kiss that I wondered if they were asked to make it seem awkward and "chemistry-less" in order that we all keep rooting for Fern (no problem there). I just find it hard to believe that Juan Soler is that poor a kisser, but Lordy, it's painful to watch when he hones in on Lety.
Here's hoping the plot changes soon, I'm more down in the dumps than Don Fernando.
Did get a kick out of Luigi's attempts to be pals with Lety...I think his physical comedy (and Alicia's) are the best. Judy B.

Usually, when I watch this show I have the captions turned on and I sit down and watch (and read) carefully. If I'm in a hurry then I might speed through a few scenes I don't care about, but generally, it's a one-hour commitment, and often there is ice cream.
Last night I watched on my old, captionless TV in the kitchen because I was suddenly very excited about washing my dishes. All of them by hand, and very carefully. What does that tell you about how I feel about Aldo+Lety. :) If they keep this up, my whole house will be spotless and I will be soooo skinny.

DITTO to all of the above.Its as if you all could read my mind:)...I just want to put my few cents of words in first of all Aldo did play the perfect guy card on Julieta and Erasmo he manipulated everything into a way they could admire him he knows that Lety's parents mean alot to her so he just wanted to make sure they were on his side and since Lety acts like shes 5 he knew her parents opinion has a big influence on her.I also HATE HATE HATE the way Aldo goes around conceptos flirting and petting las del cuartel he is a concieted creep.Sara and Lola but ESPECAILLY SARA are acting like idiots (used this word because i could go on all day on how much im beginning to VERY STRONGLY DISLIKE them) she is acting very stupid about the whole Lety situation its none of her busness and i hate how she keeps saying she HAS to stay wth Maldo with the way she acts no wonder she is a jiraffa solterona.I think Aldo brainwashed Lety with how may times he said "i sold evrything for you" he just does not stop!!!!! oI`m from greece and we get lfmb in earlier episodes than the ones I read here, and I must say 2 things that come to mind. 1 is that Lety seems to be maybe doing what most teen ager girls do, which is try out the power that she can have over boys(face it we all did it at one point, and she maybe never got to do it with her dad the way he is) 2 that having been burned twice in a bad way sentimentaly, she tends to choose a father figure, and seeing what kind of a father she had, it mkes some sort of sense to choose Aldo. Just hope she comes to her senses in the nick of time, fern is funnier and muy guapo, as you say...w

Aldo is safe, supportive and stable and Lety needs that right now to restore her self-worth after Fern hurt her so badly...even if Fern says he loves her, she's still really not sure...Fern will have to prove his love for Lety even if he has to suffer in the meantime and Lety will learn again how to trust a man enough to love a man through Aldo...in the end Lety and Fern will realize their true feelings and passion for each other after all the confusion and hardships and their love for each other will triumph!

He split with Marcia, told his parents, is giving her space and not putting pressure on her. To me that is proof enough. I think she is downright cruel to fern and he never intentionally was downright cruel to her, other than their first sexual experience, which was for the benefit of conceptos. to tell him she loves and will marry him and a few days later tells aldo the same, without telling fern first that she is not in love with him and she plans to date aldo, is really unacceptable. It would be nice to see fern leave town. Lety be so upset that she loses aldo because he can see where her heart is; however, fern doesn't take her back and she just sits in a corner and cries over the fish that got away. Wow. That is what she needs. Realistically though. When fern would walk into conceptos with marcia, lety saw this and her heart ached every time. Fern would reasurre her that nothing was happening. Who would believe crap like that. I wouldn't. this went on through most of the soap. It was only recently that he left marcia. So lety was traumatized 3/4ths of the soap or 3/4 the year. Not knowing what to believe. what she saw or what he said??

I didn't think Fer was cruel to Lety during their first time...I mean yeah he was using her for the company, but she loved him...he didn't say he loved her. He tried to back out, cause he felt bad (he thought she was a virgin), well and truthfully she was ugly...but she cried and did the "Why would a guapo like him wanta be with an ugly girl like her", well the rest is history..from a totally callous point of view...my husband snorted out loud...when Fer paid like $300 for the hotel room..yeah most girls get their hearts broken in the backseat of a car..Nothing happened to Lety that hasn't happened to most women at one time or another...Poor Poor Pitiful Her...

Anybody ever notice the difference between Lety now and the closing where she is sleeping on the bench and Fern rescues her? She looks so childlike. I think that is what was attractive to him at the time. A young woman with no experience who looked up to him. But, it seems like both Lety and Fern are growing and maturing. As much of an Aldo fan that I am, I have to admit that they as a couple doesn't cut it. I would like to see Aldo and Caro together. I also started to watch Destilando Amor just to keep immersed in Spanish and saw Fern's friend, Eduardo, and the lawyer who liked Oxi. Barbara in Mass.

Melinama, thanks for the recap. I can understand your burnout. So many of us are sitting there with you in the frustration balcony. This endless churning of the plot has scraped away all the charm from everyone but Ferni.
Aldo can call his buyout of Conceptos' debt a sacrifice if he wants, but it's also an investment. He's supposed to be paid back in the end. He just has the financial upper hand for now.
The only rewarding scenes last night were Alicia taking over Marcia's bedroom and Luigi's girl-bonding with the "Orni" Lety. Lety's giggles and kissy-kissy with Aldo stretched my last nerve to the breaking point. Even my husband said Lety was goofy now.
Both her behavior and dress are sliding downhill from the improvements she gained in Aca.
Thanks for all the analysis from everyone as we suffer together.

I'm not an Aldo fan but I really don't see him as deliberately manipulating Lety.
I think he really wanted to help her and free her like he said.

I'm still a fan of Aldo's, but REALLY want him to move on from Lety. She acts like a woman (as much as she is capable of, anyway) around Fernando, she acts like a child around Aldo. Is he looking for a daughter figure or something? (Ew!). I wanted to root for Aldo, but now I just think he needs to get OUT of this bad relationship! To stick up for him (again) though, most of the times when he mentions selling his stuff, it's to Fernando or Omar, it's not directly to Lety, she just conveniently overhears.
I've reached a point where I literally cannot stand to listen to Angelica Vale do Lety when she's in full "child" mode. I had to switch the channel so many times last night I think I missed a lot, so thanks Melinama for the great recap. Ok, well part of the switching was also so I could watch Drive (I love Nathan Fillion and don't have TIVO or a working VCR), but I would still have had to turn it even if nothing else was on to watch, just because Baby Lety came on. I've reached a point where I literally cannot stand to listen to Angelica Vale do Lety when she's in full "child" mode. I had to switch the channel so many times last night I think I missed a lot, so thanks Melinama for the great recap. Ok, well part of the switching was also so I could watch Drive (I love Nathan Fillion and don't have TIVO or a working VCR), but I would still have had to turn it even if nothing else was on to watch, just because Baby Lety came on. Please, woman, hook up with Fernando QUICKLY so we don't have to hear that voice any more. Or turn into Aurora forever, at least she speaks like a woman!

P.S. Lety chose Aldo because they needed to fill the extra episode slots. IF everyone wants her to end up with Fern she couldn't have chosen him right away. That does not for a good story make if you still have 2 months to go in Novelaland. Must make audience hate then love!!!

anon 8:20 pm, I think "hat", is put at the end of ass just as a substitute for hole. Beckster would be able to verify. I love it. I actually used it at work today, when I was telling someone the asshat in the cafeteria gave me the wrong change. my friend had to say "what?" a couple of times.

Amazing that we have such uniform feelings for this episode! The show obviously did what it was intended to do. I just could not stomach the Lety-Aldo "love" (if-you-could-call-it-that) scenes. Normally I would say "bad acting" - I don't believe they're in love. However it's really great acting! The intent is to show us the audience that these two couldn't possibly really be in love!

Actually Beckster, I do think Fer said that he loved her right before they did it the first time. Someone back me up on this or am I remembering it incorrectly.
Whether he said he loved her or not, I do think he treated her poorly---using her to keep his company and all, but happened to fall in love with her in the process. Of course, as has been pointed out many times before, Lety did willingly go along w/ the cooking the books stuff but flipped sides when she discovered la carta. Anyway, I'm on TEAM FERNANDO, remember, so I can justify pretty much anything that beautiful man does. :-)
Teresa, I used to watch GH off and on for years. I finally gave up on it. Now I'm glad that I turned to novelas, where the stories actually come to a conclusion and I can practice my Spanish.

AssHat..embrace the word...you will be happy you did..someone I work with is out on med LOA & they brought in a very nice classy retired lady, who has worked with us off and on for years..well one week later...yes she has embraced the term..
What is it about Ferni suffering that get us (or maybe just me? He is Tan Divino, of course. Is it his empathetic acting. Maybe he suffered for love? Does he reach an emotional place in me where I am vulnerable, still experiencing pain from rejection, unrequited love, heartbreak. Today was somewhat played for laughs so why do I hurt for him. just asking? I felt all those issues in me were resolved so
