Destilando -- Thur. 5/10/07

Rodgrigo is talking to the photo of his late grandfather in his study at the hacienda. Rod says he doesn't need to go to church to honor Amador when Rodrigo already feels close to his grandfather by working the land. Rod remembers his grandfather's last jima two years ago with sadness, but then brightens up. For the next jima, Gaviota will return!

Isa, in her bedroom, remembers that the upcoming jima means Gavi might be back.

Several days later, we see Hilario on horseback, riding up to the tree where Don Amador is buried. Rod is there with his horse. Hilario tells Rod the workers have arrived.

Roman has a clipboard and greets the workers as they arrive. Rod observes at a distance, on his horse. Isa is also nearby, spying on Rod. Roman gives the signal that Gavi didn't return. Bad news for Rod, Isa is thrilled!

In DF, everyone is gathered outside a church, waiting for Don Amador's Mass to start. Aaron and Minnie approach Dona Pilar, "we're here." They want to know, where is Rod? Pilar says, don't talk about him.

Mariana, in a dark pantsuit, is greeting people as they enter the church. Minnie gives her a dirty look as they pass by. Gavi's admirer from the tequila meeting gives her arm a squeeze as he passes by.

In church, the priest is talking and Aaron is nodding off. Gavi also closes her eyes and remembers when she first saw Rod, getting out of the car at the hacienda. She opens her eyes, and the guy who squeezed her arm is turned around to grin at her with a stupid look on his face. She looks away from him. Later she looks behind her and does a double take to see Clarita at the church, praying in the back. Clarita is praying to Amador, saying they will see each other again some day. Gavi turns back around to see Mr. Tequila, still with the grin, leaning toward her in anticipation.

Later that night, Gavi confronts Clarita. Why was Clarita at the church, why is she so sad that she has been crying all day? Clarita is pouty and does not want to say much. Finally, Clarita says that she knew Amador before Gavi was born, had a lot of respect for him, and he was closer to her than a relative. Gavi hugs her mom.

La familia is gathered at Dona Pilar's and all eyes are on Rod and Isa as they arrive. Isa greets Pilar and apologizes for not being at the Mass. Pilar tells her not to worry. Rod leans in to kiss Pilar ("how are you?") and she leans away. Aaron pulls Rod away, and they start talking tequila. Bruno and Aaron start going at each other, Bruno is concerned about the price of Aaron's project putting the rest of the business in danger.

Minerva is ready to pounce, and asks Aaron to tell everyone who he put in charge while he is working on his new project: Mariana Franco! Minnie helpfully points out that there is a requirement that the boss be a Montalvo. Bruno agrees. There is discussion about who should take over the job instead of Mariana. Aaron, Bruno, and Patricio say they can't do it. Aaron, drink and cigar in hand, approaches Rod and says he is the perfect person for the job. Rod is confused. Isa and Sophia come over to convince Rod to take the job. Rod blows up at everyone and says that they don't appreciate the job he is doing at the hacienda and are worried that Gaviota will return and he'll marry a jimadora! Grandma Pilar is mad and wants the familia to stop talking about the business and the hacienda.

The next day at work, Gavi tells Aaron she can't go to the junta, she's sick and needs to go to the doctor. He tells her no. Rod and Isa stroll into the lobby and ask for their plane tickets. The receptionist tells them the tickets are for tomorrow and Rod gets mad. Mariana Franco is responsible for that, and he is going to go up to talk to her. Gavi gets a call that Rod is on his way up. What to do?! She grabs a blue scarf to put over her hair and sunglasses, sitting down just as there's a knock at the door.

Rod comes into Gavi's office, angry about the tickets and yelling at her. They argue. Sophia comes in also, greets Rod and Isa. Rod sees the watch on Gavi's arm and is impactado. Isa and Sophia leave for the cafeteria. Rod tells Gavi to look him in the eyes and she doesn't. He leans down and turns her chin toward him, taking off the sunglasses. She is staring at him with big eyes. He says, it's you. They lean in close and are happy for a moment in their own little world.

Just then, Aaron opens the door. Rod and Gavi spring apart and start yelling at each other about the plane tickets. Aaron is thrilled, you've met my assistant, isn't she great? Gavi is glazed eyed. The primos leave and Rod tells Gavi they'll talk later.

At the cafeteria, Isa tells Sophia the real reason they weren't at church was that Rod was waiting for the jimadora to return. And by the way, Rod doesn't like Mariana. Minnie arrives, anticipating Mariana's destruction.

Gavi is in a trance in her office, then she realizes the is in trouble. She calls her mom. The Montalvos could throw her in jail if Rod tells them who she is. What to do? Clarita gives her some advice, based on a telenovela she remembers and tells her to be strong.

The junta is underway and Pilar tells everyone that she had a dream that Amador was not happy. Rod is thinking about how he removed Gavi's disguise. More talk about Mariana's position, who should take it? Elvira is listening outside the door with anticipation, Bruno closes the door. Rod agrees to take the position, everyone is shocked and/or thrilled. Grandma is happy.

Aaron calls Mariana into the meeting room, she thinks this is the end of her job. Rod is thrilled to see her and grinning at her. Aaron tells her to sit down, and they talk about the job arrangements. Bruno tells Marina about the Montalvo rule. Minnie, who has to be restrained, tells Gavi that she's not in charge anymore, Rod will be her new boss!

Rod looks at Gavi, she is shocked. Rod will need some info on the details of the job from Gavi, right uncle Bruno? Pilar wants the family to reconcile, especially Aaron and Minnie and Rod and Isa. Now that Isa and Rod will be in the city, Pilar thinks their marriage will be more solid. Gavi is looking ill. Isa toasts to her and Rod's first wedding anniversity. Rod looks grim. Gavi excuses herself. The family celebrates. Aaron wants to give Isa a hug.

Later, outside in the hallway, Isa tells Rod she has a special surprise for him. Daniela mocks Isa after she leaves and talks to Rod about marking both his anniversary and divorce.

Rod finds Gavi in her office and they have words. He wants to know why she changed her name and is working for the Montalvos. She tells him it just happened. Rod wants to know why he didn't hear any news of her, why she didn't come back. She says that person, who she was before, no longer exists. That died when he got married.

He says he never has touched Isa, etc. They have very specific rules for their marriage. Gavi wants to know why Isa would agree to something like that. And why Rod would stay with someone he doesn't love. He tries to explain, the problem is the Isa loves him. Gavi tells Rod that he makes her sick!

Thanks for the recap, Susana!

I kind of like having Daniela around - it's nice that he has one woman on his side, at least!

(He = Rodrigo)

Oh...I am married..but we have "rules"..oh yeah Isa is in love with me..Rod you are such an AssHat..Aaron would have had Gavi, paying for the divorce in like 15 seconds...He is the master

Shout out to Clara.."he was closer than a relative"..well she has never met Meliton and Acacia..

Okay that was not PC, but still...

Sorry Susana..thanks for the recap..I only caught parts on the commercial time from Greys...

Anyone catch what Aaron said to his other cousin, "Jan" at the end? It looked like he let slip something he regretted.

Yippee! Rod and Gavi meet again, and the stage is set for lots of love you, hate you, can't live without you, never want to see you, hot kisses, longing gazes. Great novela stuff.

Fun, fun, fun.

By the way, Yanez did a great job! He has such a range from angry to lit up happy, it's kind of scary.

Susana thanks so much for the great recap.

I agree with you Julie regarding Daniela. Its good for Rod to have at least one family member on his side and encouraging the divorce.

I'm so glad Rod and Gavi did actually see one another and even though it will be all the drama Anya mentioned, at least they are together.

Karen

I actually thought Yanez let us down in this episode-- i mean, I've seen him more excited to see Isa's Fondue 'dinner'.

Can't wait until Minnie finds out that Aaron and Isa slept together. that will be classic

aah, i absolutely loved the encounter; couldn't have been better in my opinion :) how he kneeled down and took off her glasses, and said "Dios mio, it's you!". i almost melted... yes, rodrigo can change his feelings drastically, and i love that :)

ps; thanks susana for the wonderful recap and detailed description of the encounter :)

Rodrigo and his egotiscal comments of she's in love with me, I'm not in love with her, we haven't had sex is an "all about me" statement ,and doubly self absorbed and stupid, particularly saying it to the "one" you've been obsessing about and trying to locate since the day she left. Gavi & Rodrigo are magic together on the screen, and both are great actors.Maybe, she wll drop Rodrigo and fall in love with (Jan) Patricio.

The "me" theme reminds me of James when he was talking to Acacia a couple of episodes ago, it was all about him!

I'd like to see Gavi with a nice man with some business acumen and common sense!

Oh, you mean like Hotel Boss Guy. I miss him. :...(

I love the fondue comment by Andrea..

Must be something in the water in Mexico that all men think that God died and left them in charge and that women are nothing but "objects".

Rodrigo wants his cake and eat it too..Got the wife to keep abuela off his case and keep up appearances, then Gavi on the side.I hope Gavi gets a boyfriend soon, and Rod is forced to stay with that harlot,Isadora..

If gaviota gets a boyfriend and she and rod don't get togehter, then what was this soap opera for??? It shows in the beginning what the ending is supposed to be about "them together". I am getting the hang of these spanish soaps. American soaps are not clear cause they go on for years and years. I used to watch General hospital in the60's and now there are still people on there that were there in the 60's. Some got lost or kidnapped or had amnesia and return to their loved ones ROTF. Some are considered lost in action as spies or not found after plane crashes and eventually years later show up ROTF. I understand Laura and Luke are on and off general hospital. My kids both took off from school around 1975ish when they got married. Supposidly 1/4th the highschool watched it. These spanish soaps are easier to see what is going on. there is purpose. I understand from the recap comments. The stars learn, mature, have personal growth and then return to their love. that is nice.

Thankyou Susana! I enjoyed your description of the encounter. There was a lot of sighing at that point heard 'round the world I think last night.

My two favorite lines for now: "Señorita, look me in the eyes!" and "Dios mio, it is you!"

Susana, welcome to the team! I've put you in the masthead. Have a picture I can post?

I agree with Tash. My adrenalin was rushing when he realized it was Gavi wearing his watch. I think it was supposed to be a quiet and tender moment between them; he had to contain his euphoria upon finding his Gaviota or else the Corportivo would discover who Mariano Franco really is.

If Rod was a "real" man he would've dumped TWB long ago, even if Granny didn't like it. Maybe it was good for his ego to have a women constantly trying to get him in bed.
But, if they had given him a brain, he would've known Gavi wasn't going to go for it...
jb

Thanks, Melinama. I'll track down a picture and send it your way, but probably not in the next couple of days. :)

I would love it if Gavi got another boyfriend! What does Rod expect her to do if he says he loves her but is not ready to do the footwork to back up his words. Gavi can deal with the tough guys, so how about using those skills to put some pressure on Rod?

Thanks for the recap.

I knew that watch would be recognized soon or later, but Lol... never expected that Rod would be the first one to recognize it.

I am glad he didn't give Gavi away. This is going to be really interesting to watch how long its going to take him to break.Coz he ain't fooling me

Can we get a picture or two of Rod? I thought he looked pretty hot in the episode last night, the shot of him with his horse at Amador's grave.

Somebody asked what Jan/Patricio asks Aaron near the end last night.

Aaron answered him very snidely I believe because Patricio is an orphaned cousin on Fedra's side that Aaron's daddy adopted. There is no doubt more than a bit of resentment on greedy Aaron's part because he'll have to share his daddy's inheritance with Patricio. "Aaron, do you believe that I will be indispensable?" (Patricio is supposed to be a weak-willed man who is unsure of himself. Aaron, the Alpha Male, would have no patience with this type of guy.) "Yes. You are going to be a key part in the machinery of this project. (Knocks his head as if to say, "You dummy".) Is that clear?

Thanks, maybe Patricio's days are numbered! Aaron could push him down the stairs, if an opportunity presents itself.

Lol! stairs are reserved for pregnant women only.

Wonderful recap. I really enjoyed Rodrigo's sweetness in the reunion scene, also. He is really a good looking man and a good actor. Looks great in suits, too. If Gavi might be Don Amador's daughter, what would her family relationship be to Rod?

Well if Rod's parentage is true..then Gavi would be his aunt..yeh..pretty ewwwww

Well, that didn't stop Brunhilde and Siegfried, in one of the greatest love stories ever written. Of course, the plot ended badly for both of them.

Perhaps there's some quirk in Rod's parentage that will allow them to get it together. I see more than one DNA test in the future of this novela, i.e. Isa's hijo: anybody's guess.

What happened to Rod's parents?

I think Rod's parents died together in a car wreck.

It was either a car wreck or a plane crash. Are we sure that Aaron didn't have something to do with that?

Isa just has to be pregnant by Hilly. A peon like herself. She's trying to get up the social ladder, but she needs an adjustmentto her social status. Hope DNA is available to these people. Looks like it's going to be needed by more than one couple. Great translations. Love the "tongue in cheek". More. More.

Great recap, Susana! You know, Rod doesn't look like he could be related any of his family. I mean, he's so tall, dark and handsome! Maybe he was secretly adopted??-Becky T

I hope you guys put a scene that Rod and Gavi get back together to
add spice to the story not hate and love and hate enough already
on that scenes, like Acorralada it is getting too boring already like you don't feel like watching anymore! change the mood ! to a happy ones for a change! and more excitements
thanks
SB

Rod's parents, Felipe and Constanza (a likeable couple, sort of earthy and unassuming), died together in a plane crash at a critical juncture early on. It was the phone call informing Rod of the tragedy, while on the streets of Londres, capital de la Ingelaterra, that diverted his attention from Gavi's fateful accident. He then flew back to Mexico for the funeral where Isadora caught sight of him and the rest is history.

I loved everyone's comments. Even though I was getting very annoyed with both Rod and Gavi, I have to admit I love seeing them together finally. Now I want to see some love scenes between them before the conflicts and complications start up again. I don't know how that's going to happen though as long as he's married to Isa. I'm sure that Isa's pregnancy is the thing that's going to come between them. But if I were Gavi, it would be hard to accept the fact that he would have hung in there forever if Isa's infidelity hadn't happened. Jardinera, I love your 08:50 PM description of Aaron being the alpha male. You gotta love him. What was the threat he made to his dad about if he ever hit him again? I'm surprised that he took that abuse for as long as he did.

I think that HotRod was right about feeling closer to his grandfather at the haciendo. My dad was a farmer , and I can still feel his presence on the farm even though he died 12 years ago. And...another excellent disguise...sunglasses and a scarf. That is almost as good as Duhlina's disguise, a tshirt and jeans. When AAron says, ''I am the decider,'' is that like saying , ''I am the boss of you as opposed to you being the boss of me.'' Do you think Isa has a little bun in the oven???
