Destilando Amor 08/31/07: Retreat and Regroup

Pammy and Gaspar continue discussing the motives for Aaron's jolting jilt and his return to Minnie the Man-eater. From what she overheard and what Aaron has told her, Minnie has knowledge of certain of his shady doings. Pammy thinks they ought to report him to the authorities.

Aaron, from his penthouse bedroom meantime, has put Fedra to work getting a few hairs from Rod's baby to use for a DNA test in the States.

Gaspar explains that nobody's going to believe a jilted lover's baseless accusations, leastwise about a Montalvo. However, Pammy, with pouty, puffy lips that beg to be told, "Better get some some ice on that, hon", tells Gaspar that Aaron played her for a fool and she needs to get even. She wants to destroy him.

Gaspar warns Pam there are rumors the Montalvo's caused Artemio Trejo's death in order to take over his clients, so she better think twice 'cause it could get v-e-r-r-y dicey if she starts down this path. Pammy, though, feels this is exactly the confirmation they both need that Aaron's been dirty-dealing. All they need is a little something to go on, but what-oh-what-could it be? Pammy arrives at her moment of epiphany. "Aha!" she exclaims as she suddenly realizes the USB must have certain damning information on its files. Why else would Aaron be so insistent on getting it back!

Gaspar figures that to prove their suspicions they will need to decode the USB's files first; then they'll need to get hold of the company's bills of lading and compare them with the documents they presented at Customs for the various countries involved. It might take a while and it will not be easy! (Now, Gaspar, we'd all be mighty disappointed if it were!!) Pam tells Gaspar to take all the time he needs and he agrees to help. He promises her that if he finds Aaron Montalvo was mixed up in any type of illicit activities, he'll take great pleasure in ruining him.

===============
It's now morning at Mariana's and Clarita is serving her breakfast. Gavi tells her mom that Dani says the baby came out looking like it's parents (yeah, but the wrong set, Gavi). So Clarita should knock off the nutty novela comparisons. Clarita insists that newborns never look like anyone at first, but once they grow a bit their true features take hold. "Wait till this little one is a couple months older and then we'll talk!"

Just then Alonso calls Gavi at home with a couple of additional instructions for a fax, thus crossing the line as the kind of tactless boss you just got to have had to fully appreciate the extent of the intrusion, but she takes it in stride and whispers to Clarita about the workaholic she's working for.

Across town at the hospital, in the lounge, James and Rod have a sensitive little chat over Acacia's mental condition. James is grief-stricken and says she's no longer the young woman he fell in love with. Tearfully he explains that it's as if she's just a child and he is only her tutor. (Isn't it interesting how she has to have a break with reality for James to finally get in touch with it.) Rod asks about the prognosis and James says the doctor doesn't have much hope that her condition will change. There's been too much emotional trauma. However, he's committed (more like condemned) to stay with her for a lifetime to care and comfort her.

Acacia, meanwhile, is playing with her dolly on the grounds somewhere and suddenly goes berserk. While zombified patients pace back and forth all around her she begins to beat it to a pulp, screaming "lazy brat" and all the other choice phrases her loving uncle affectionately yelled at her in the barn just before he met his fate and San Pedro's rejection at the Pearly Gates.

At her desk during tasting school Gavi continues to torture herself with daydreams about Rod and Isa, and the new baby as a smiling, loving and happy threesome.

Meanwhile Isa is on the phone with the twerpy Dr. Tejeiros. He's panicked and worried because none of the documentation he showed her husband the day before will hold up to a closer look-see or say, a legal challenge. He faked them and any doctor worth his salt will know it immediately. Isa tells him not to worry since her husband was both hooked and rooked to perfection. So now they won't be needing his services any further, leaving us all to wonder if Paulino hadn't better cash that check she bribed him with and fast......

Dani fights an involuntary gag and snicker when the charming Pepe le Peu de la Vega starts kissing hands and spewing bad, affected French phrases of "adieu" and begging off having to stick around the D.F. Rod doesn't understand the hurry. Frankie snows Rod and the rest with some cock and bull about his having way-y-y too much work waiting for him at the hacienda supervising the sulfate applications on the agave crops and the like. They certainly can't let their guard down with the threat of contaminated agave! And so it's: So long! Farewell! Aufwiedersehn! Adeiu! // Adeiu, Adeiu, to yieu and yieu and yieu! as Freeloading Frankie floats out the hallway and exits stage left.

Once Frankie is gone, Dani teases Sofia about all the washing, ironing and cooking she is doing for him, not to mention the occasional foot massages thrown in for good measure. Grammy scolds Dani that she knows full well that's what they have servants for..... Sofia remarks to Grammy that Dani is just kidding around, but once Dani and Rod leave to pay the hospital bill, poor Sofia, to her everlasting shame, has to admit to Grammy rather sheepishly, that in fact she's been having to do exactly that because Frankie's so...fussy. She really needs to find a proper cook and maid for him but...... Pilar is distressed and looks quite deflated with this latest revelation.

Dani goes with Rod to settle his account with the hospital. While they're waiting for the bill to be totaled, Dani let's him know that she spoke with Gavi. Besides asking if the baby was alright, she said to tell Rod to stick with his family and take care of them. "Anything else?" "She asked who he looks like, and I told her 'like his parents', of course." Rod sniffs at that. So Dani asks if he's really certain that the insemination was done properly and if he's certain he's even the father. Rod says sure. Their doctor even showed him the documentation that validates it. So why question it? Dani asks him if it is the same thing as an actual guarantee.

At that instant the cashier speaks up and says there's no need for him to pay. Mariana Franco covered it all with her credit card and Rod does impactado double-takes.

Back in Isa's hospital room, Grammy asks Sofia if they're thinking of having children soon. Sofia admits with a weak smile, and much to Isa's delight, that Frankie is so exhausted after suffering through such long and demanding days on the job that at night he just-- well, it's not exactly conducive to making babies......(Meow-w!) Daniela walks in giggling at that point. "Want to know what's so amusing?” She looks straight at Isadora. “Mariana Franco paid your hospital bill!" "--That woman paid my maternity bill and that's amusing to you?" "--Heh, yeah! The person you detest most in the world turns out to be your savior." Pilar simply hangs her head in shame.

Dani finally explains how Mariana left her credit card to insure the staff would take care of her and Isa frowns. "So you came back just to rub my face in it?" "--Relax, Isadora! You'll cut off your milk supply! Don't worry, Rod's sending a messenger over with a check to reimburse her.” She giggles. “--Hmm. I better leave before that look on your face kills me dead!" Isa turns to Pilar. "See! See what I have to put up with?" "--Don't complain, Isadora. How many times did I ask you to leave that poor woman alone? Now you're paying the consequences."

Rod and the nurse show up outside the room with Little Ricky. Dani warns him that Isa knows that Gavi paid her bill and says she may throw a shoe at him when he goes in.

Fedra shows up, coos over the baby and asks to hold him. When she has him she walks off a ways and secretly pulls a few hairs out of Ricardito's tender little scalp (welcome to Aunt Fedra's world, Ricky). Once she has what she needs she unceremoniously dumps Ricardito back into the nurse's arms and leaves. Now it's poor little Ricardito's turn to be impactado...... (Note: No, no babies were harmed in the filming of this episodio. Those hairs were stuck on something hidden behind it's head and all baby cries were dubbed in.-ed.)

===============
Back at Montalveña San Juana, lazing in her usual place at the kitchen table, pages through another magazine when what does she spy but an eyeful of Hilario all macho, macho, macho man!-- looking so fine in those jeans he is modeling, and so obviously not the dirt scratching ranch hand he used to be. SJ starts thinking to herself that he is probably worth a bundle now and a phone call would definitely be in order. Unfortunately neither Roman nor Ofelia will give her his number.

As for Hilario, he's adapted very well to the big city and is now livin' the high life and making commercials with bronzed babes in bikinis.

=====================

Back at Aaron's penthouse Fedra shows up to hand over the hair strands of little Ricky's to Aaron. She warns him not to make a move against Rod, even if he's certain and has the proof he needs in hand, until Minnie gets pregnant. Otherwise, Rod will be sure to divorce Isa once he learns she's cheated on him and he'll go running to Gaviota, get her pregnant again with another boy and bye-bye Montalvo fortune.

Dani calls to ask Gavi to meet her for coffee a little later. Nancy tells Gavi that Avellaneda wants her instead of Susana to order flowers for Rod and Isa Montalvo and to send them in the CRT's name. Gavi figures it's his way of emphasizing that Rod is off-bounds now that he is a "family man".

==========
Once they're back at the apartment, Isa and Rod argue over Dani's attitude and their having to remain in Mexico City so he can work on a tequila project that so conveniently requires support from the Public Relations Department of the CRT. "Quite convenient to see Gaviota at leisure, don't you agree?" Rod insists he won't be working with her directly, only through an employee. He will not be seeing her anymore.

Isa lays on the guilt trip like only she can do it and uses the baby as bait. She screams at Rod that it's obvious to her that now he feels he has fulfilled his promise to look after her while she was pregnant and to give the kid his name, neither of them matters to him anymore. He tells her not to involve the baby in this because he has nothing to do with it. She tells him to choose between the tequila or going back to the hacienda with her and the baby.

Rod loses patience now and refuses to give in to her crazy whims. He's spent too much time, money and effort, not to mention that it was his father's dream. Don't bother blackmailing him with the baby, either he warns, because it won't work on him. That kid's his too and he has rights. As far as he's concerned it's better that they go ahead and separate once and for all. Da-duhn!

Rod has just said the magic words and on cue, like a one-trick pony, Isa suddenly and conveniently doubles over in pain. Rod responds like Pavlov's pups and immediately drops his argument and worries about her harming herself with all the upset. He scoops her limp (and very noticeably, abnormally skinny post partem) body onto the bed and fusses over her.

Playing the martyred mother to perfection, she refuses to let him call the doctor for her and then begins to pout like a 6 year-old. Looking woeful and weak, Isa says she does not know what's happening to her. It's just that she is just so scared of losing Rod. (Note to writers: this plot device is getting old. Use your A team.) Rod, who after 3 years and nine months you'd think would be able to read her like a book, folds like an accordion and tells her to calm down, they'll talk things over later on after she's feeling better.

=========

Back at Grammy's, Frankie gets hold of Pilar and, for once, though it pains me to say it, with right on his side but for all the wrong reasons, complains about having to put up with his wife's ex-boyfriend living under the same roof as he and Sofia. He asks her to intervene with Rod to get him sent packing. Pilar says she'll take it up with Rod since it's his friend and his hacienda. Sofia walks in and wants to stay an extra week with the new baby. Of course Frankie has no objection to this. "Stay! Stay!" he says (because while the cat's away, Frankie can play at all hours of the night as well as the day).

James is in Rod's living room waiting to go with him to their meeting at Corporate, no doubt wishing for all the world he could fall through the nearest crack. When Rod walks out of the bedroom to get him, James admits he couldn't help but overhear the argument with Isa. Rod explains Isa was upset because she is angry thinking he's just using the tequila project as a reason to see Gaviota a lot more.

James wonders how Gavi feels now that the baby's been born. He wonders if she probably won't want anything more to do with him. Rod frowns and says she sent a message back through Dani and that is exactly what she told him. So, Rod says he has no choice but to avoid her for a while. Eventually, though, he'll contact her again. James is a bit concerned. "You're going to leave your wife now?" Rod says obviously he can't now with the baby just having been born, and anyway Gaviota wouldn't consider him unless he leaves his family. It's painfully obvious after arguing with Isa that his marriage is on the rocks and won't last much longer.

While Gavi waits for Dani at the coffee shop, she has to stop herself from thinking about Rodrigo. All it does is get her excited and wanting to see and to be with him again.

Back at Rod's apartment, and for the second time that day, James says something surprisingly mature. "What makes you so sure Gaviota will actually wait for you? She might get tired of it or somebody else could steal her from you." "--Don't even say it!" Rod won't even consider the possibility. "Gavi loves me and we're going to be together forever and always!" They head out.

In their bedroom, Frankie tells Sofia about the quarrel between Aaron and Rod and the threat to determine if the baby is really Rod's. Frankie asks if she or the others might have any doubts about Isa. She answers that Isa is irreproachable, even a bit of a cold fish that way; and no, the family would never permit any DNA tests to be done. (Oh really? And Sofia, you know this because?)

In the car on the way back to the Corporate Offices, Rod asks James how Frankie is really handling things. James skirts the issue and says Frank and Crispin are thick as thieves these days. He admits he knows Frankie resents his presence at the hacienda considering Sofia and he have a past. He says it would be better if he found somewhere else to live, but Rod selfishly refuses to let him move out, at least until the new tequila is successfully launched. (So, I suppose that Dry Gulch is too far to drive to and from every day?) James reluctantly agrees to stay on there as a favor to him.

Sofia visits Isa and Isa tells her about the argument, and that Rod told her to either put up or shut up, otherwise face a separation. She feels trapped and that everyone is on his side now. Sofia says she's putting her husband on a silver platter for the woman, but she also scolds her for demanding Rod give up this project after all the things he's done for Isa and her father.

Dani finally makes it to the coffee shop. She has a big laugh at Isa's expense and tells Gaviota that Isa almost had to go back into surgery when she found out La Gaviota had paid her hospital bill. Gavi's shocked herself and wonders how she's going to pay something like that off, but Dani hands her the check from Rod reimbursing her for everything. The two try to determine who in the CRT could be the spy. Dani figures she won't be able to call her there till they figure it out. Gavi mentions then how Avellaneda had asked her to order flowers for Rod and Isa as a warning that Rod is now off limits and she is not supposed to stick her nose into his business any longer.

At Montalvo Corporation Patricio, Bruno, James and Rod hold a small discussion over the launch of the new tequila. Bruno gives him a few marketing tips over the style of bottle to provide the right impression and effect on the purchasing public. Patricio and Bruno suggest he use the CRT's Public Relations Department and Alonso Santoveña's expertise to organize trips to the hacienda so potential clients can see where and how their product is produced. Bruno jokes that Rod already has great contacts at the CRT's PR department now that Gaviota works there. Pat warns Rod about potential problems with the Montalvo women, but he just smiles to himself. Bruno says he certainly wouldn't want to be in Rod's skin right now. Rod just keeps on smiling.

Oh, Jardinera,
You are the best!!!!!
We would never have known so many things if you wouldn't have translated so well for us. For instance, the old abuela giving Isla a slap on the wrist for deviling Gaviota. Just one of many things that clarify the whole program.
Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Jardinera, you always put extra effort, accuracy and zing into your summaries. Thanks ever so. I loved that scene between that sweet little baby actor (looks a girl to me) and evil Auntie Fedra. Most US productions in similar situations use babies that are really too old to pass off as newborns, but Televisa puts those little ones to work at such a tender age.

Querida Jardinera,
What a good recap, gracias, gracias. Yes, it's about time ole Abuelita smartens up about quien es demonia o angel. Rod showed surprising spunk about separating from Senora Shrillness who he so obviously does not like let alone love. While she has no interest in any thing that concerns him except the money and that nagging need to control him while she can with her feigned piety and faithfulness. Such drama, I guess Rod's continued stupidity about being cuckholded will carry this out several more episodes than is really necessary. Que the hell, at least the previews for next week look like Gavi will have some fun times with Elvis and Dani since Doctor Cafe doesn't look like he will try to sizzle her curls with passion...lastima. I like all the side stories too of Hilario's new life and SanWhinna's determination to get back in his game, Pammy and Daddy, Aaron and Mommy and that trampy Francisco/Pancho and his philandering in the villages with Crispin. Sweet old James needs more than the tunnel that seems to be at the end of his light too, doubt if Sofie, the queen of irony will help him much.
Ohhhh amigas y amigos: Albuquerque opened Fernando Colunga's "Ladron que Roba a Ladron yesterday and I was in the 1st show of the 1st day. That steamy sex appeal really carries so well to the big, big screen and the humor and the, did I mention sex app.... well whatever, get thee to a cine ahora!! Hasta lunes, compadres...

Thank you again for covering all of the business stuff so thoroughly. I try really hard to follow it, but I never quite get it right. :)

Thanks so much for the recap Jardinera. So many of your comments made me chuckle - yes, Dr. Paulino better cash that check like yesterday. And poor silly Sophie, she knows nothing of the business of men (or women). Aaron is about to lose a lot of money do you really think he's just let the inheritance go to your brother especially when he's slept with your sister-in-law (oh and your husband slept with her and made her preggers too)? So though the family might not authorize a DNA test, like that is going to stop Aaron. And finally James with his completely out of character words of wisdom.

Next week look like fun - Aaron claiming the kid's not legit and Isa looking scared.

Pilar's feels towards Gavi seem to be changing i sense she is growin to respect her more.

Isa's baby glory will be short lived.... Dani is suspicious about her and i have a feelin she will be digging into this paternity thing and LOL...will heads roll.

*Hani*

Super recap, Jardinera.

I'm with Destilando Cafe, that baby scene had me. The little fake baby impactado look was almost funny in the face of that mean helmet head fakey Fedra.

Aaron is getting even more snakelike in these last two episodes; his eyes just seem more and more narrow. Oh yeah, and if James were really such a good friend to Rod, how is it that he has not yet ratted out the sleazeball Frankie?

Great recap..
I am waiting for Aaron's head to just explode one episode..

I was thinking back about the beginning of Rod & Isa's marriage, perhaps had she played her cards differently in the beginning she could have actually won Rod over, but in remembrance she was a bitch the day after the wedding.

I loved the snatching the baby hair, Fedra is cold, but awesome she always plays it off.

Rod seems to have forgiven Sofie, I guess he doesn't know she is the one who prompted Isa to go get the Jizz (even though it was already too late). I think Sofie deserves a smack down well for just being Sofie.

And I find the gyno guy a bit doogie howser creepy, like just giving her an exam is worth the lying? Dude do no harm

Indeed I like Dani, I feel I could party with that girl, Gavi too. Minnie would be fun to watch as long as it was directed elsewhere, but Isa & Sofie, not so much. Isa is the kinda women you see in a club and wonder how her husband doesn't just kill her..the constant shrieking..the constant drama.

I've been a fan of the Destilando posts for about 2 months. Even though Spanish is my native tongue. These posts actually help me with my English and when I forge to record an episode.

I have to say you chicas do a great job on the translations and understanding the culture.

Besitos,
Lilach (orginally from Buenos Aires)

About Aaron's head exploding, I have a true family story for y'all - my grandmother's grandfather, a wealthy man, died of apoplexy when his valet set out the wrong tie for him to wear to the day's board meeting. This is like a combination of Aaron and Smarmie Frankie.

Jardinera^^^As ever, that was a great detailed recap. Lilach^^^I can see that reading these English translations would help you with your English. I've told my students about this site. Some of them may be lurking here. Melinama^^^Wow ! The valet setting out the wrong tie. Yikes ! Has anyone else noticed that Isa's little face is getting more and more pinched as the days go by??? I loved the expression on that precious baby's tiny face when the Wicked Witch Fedra pulled out some of his hair. Ouch ! That was harsh even for the nasty Fedra. I would imagine that everyone expected that the fruit of Rod's loins would have lots of coal black hair. Didn't Fedra say that Baby Rod was ''hairy, hairy, hairy?'' My friend's baby girl looked like she was born wearing a wig. I considered giving her a blowdryer as a birth gift. Rod does seem to be looking at that baby suspiciously. I just wonder how this whole tangled web is going to start to unravel. Perhaps when Gav gets a look at Frankie. Maybe Jose will drop by to see her Pancho. Maybe Frankie will start bragging among the locals about being the real daddy of that varon. He has not shown much discretion so far. Dani seems to be on the trail. She is the loose Montalvo cannon who wants her darling hermano to be happy and doesn't care what any of the rest of the clan thiinks . I am waiting for the day when Minervaaa learns about AAron and Isa . Kaboom. And Rod...sleeping tiger there. Guys like Rod are interesting. Those strong , silent ones take everything in stride and then...one day...KABOOM....AN EXPLOSION THAT'S OFF THE rICHTER Scale That should be must-see TV. Thanks again, Jardinera.

Jardinera - What a fabulous recap! Loved the "Welcome to Aunt Fedra's World" The A team must have really worked hard on that Kodak moment. Otra vez, gracias, gracias. EMO

I also have a "blow your top" story.
My great uncle, a bombastic Irishman, went to a party one night and had a blast. While under the influence, someone gave him a Limburger sandwich, which he gobbled down.
The next morning, sober, he was told he had eaten the odiferous cheese and got so mad he jumped up and down until he broke his little toe.

Jardinera, thanks for another of your great recaps. I would've missed so many of the little side conversations. I loved the way you described Alonso's intrusive phone call to Gavi at home. It seems Alonso would like to have a more personal relationship but he's boring, absent minded and a workaholic. He doesn't seem to be the romantic type. It sure didn't take James long to forget about Meliton's decaying body. The priest told James to wait until Acacia got better before reporting the murder. OK, so now that he knows that the chances of her getting better are pretty slim, isn't it time to get some legal advice? Right now any jury would certainly think he did the crime and is now trying to pin it on Acacia because she's unable to defend herself.

(Sorry for the multiple attempts... I can't type today...)

My story isn't quite as spectacular as dying in a fit over tie, but I once dated a someone who was picky about beer. I didn't realize how picky until we went to visit some much younger friends of mine who were serving us dinner on a very tight budget. They offered him a Budweiser, and in a very strangled voice he said, "I can't drink that stuff." I told him later that the proper response was "no thank you."

On another occasion, I gave him a bottle of the "good stuff" and he wanted to know where the glass was. I got him a glass and he complained that the stuff could only be drunk out of a pilsner glass. I told him the proper response was "no thank you" and next time bring his own beverages and glassware.

We didn't last very long after that. Thank goodness.

Thanks to all you devotées of detail. As the saying goes, the Devil is definitely in them and the deity has deemed me destined, if not damned, to always deal with them!

Julie: I find myself fighting glassy-eye syndrome as well when it comes to deciphering all the business jargon. ; > ) 18th century pirates will be a cinch after this novela, and a definite 180.

Lilach,

It's always interesting to see who is new here each week. Anonymous lurkers are welcome, but when a name is attached you cease to be a part of the ethernet void and you take on a personality with whom it is easier to communicate. As a native Spanish speaker, you pay the recappers and Melinama the ultimate compliment. Thankyou!

(P.S. ^^ That, I believe, is an example of proper grammar. Though many of us here had educations that stressed the perfect parsing of sentences for 12 years, you can bet your bottom dollar I, for one, and as others will note, don't always provide the best examples of it here!)

susanlynn..
The best thing about Rod is a (he is a huge fan of Tequila)..he does not having a wandering eye...or any other wandering body part. Plus he really does have a good heart & I just feel like a could amaze him with endless useless trivia I have picked up over the years..(in a less polite way..Rod always has that wide eyed look)

Anon 10:44pm --
>>if James were really such a good friend to Rod, how is it that he has not yet ratted out the sleazeball Frankie?<<

IMHO --I think the writers are working under the same principle as with Gaspar's character. James would just be seen as a jealous trouble-maker and perhaps he simply doesn't feel comfortable making waves with his best buddy.
===========
cheryl & diane: Dr. Café is definitely turning into Dr. Dud plotwise. I had hoped for more out of this character than a last minute sputter and spark. Perhaps he's calling Gavi under the pretext of work cuz he just can't figure a way to keep in touch with her other than work-related. Maybe he turned into a dull workaholic after his wife's death to avoid the pain of dealing with it and now doesn't know how to relate socially. I don't know how he was written in the original, but it is a definite waste of Rene Strickler as anything but eye-candy.....and he is definitely my flavor!!

Lol....does anyone wish that Fedra did cuckold her husband and Aaron is not a Montalvo and the old man knew about it... now thats irony.

James does not rat out Francisco out of consideration for Sofia, IMHO. He just wants to get out of that rats nest, but Rodrigo keeps begging him to stay. Think of the spears pointed at the heart of the Montalvo empire--Aaron and his exportaciones irregulares, Isadora's Dad's creditors who potentially own all that the hacienda produces this year, and now Francisco is in charge of keeping the encroaching blights and pests away from the agave crop. Strikes one, two, and three.

desti: you are right. I'd forgotten about the Sofia angle, but that is probably top on the list. Now, if the creditors come knocking, especially important to Rod would be the loss of the rights to his father's organic tequila, or at least the first production year's worth. It would sting his pride because it is wrapped up in his need for Gavi's participation in it somehow also, I'd suppose.

Hani & Karen: Isa has had her head in the sand if she thought Aaron wouldn't come after her and that baby with the Montalvo fortune at stake. Her Ace in the hole may be her affair with him and his need to keep Minnie from turning him into the police will hold him off a bit with another quite literal "Mexican standoff". If Gaspar and Pam finally get the information they need to put him away, then all bets are off. That is when the lid blows because he'll have nothing more to lose then IMHO.

When is the rest of Amador's will going to be revealed ? That could be an interesting plot twist.

I completely agree with you Jardinera regarding Isa but I think she naively thought that she'd only have to placate Rod. And she had the upper hand on Minnie b/c she got pregnant, had a boy and most importantly duped Minnie about her fidelty to Rod.

It would be interesting if she was had the presence of mind (and most of the women on this show as aside from Dani don't show those type of smarts; for me, Minnie is just manipulative but not necessarily smart) to try to blackmail Aaron. However, that would be blown to bits if Aaron also tested the varon's gene against his own.

Pammie and Gaspar just rachet up Aaron's anxiety and push him to that point of no return as you say.

And Susanlynn you are right. The will should add an interesting twist to this novela. Perhaps we'll finally find out Gavi's paternity.

Anon 4:40: I have been having the same thought for months. I have serious doubts about Aaron's Montalvo genes.

What would be REALLY interesting is if the baby's hair sample MATCHED Aaron's sample... meaning that Aaron is a de la Vega!! (Or from Doña Jose's side of the family...) I'm not seriously proposing this, just suggesting it as a painfully twisted plot development.

Jardinera: I was going to say that we'd better not count on the pirate thing being less complicated, businesswise... but I'm going to preemptively take that back. Tortuous as a pirate's business dealings might be, I bet the lack of banks and lawyers will still keep the Spanish simpler. (Unless they're going to go with historically accurate slang, or something... *shudder*)

Ahoy mateys !~ Yes, didn't the pirates just keep their gold coins in a big old treasure chest [or COFRE] ??? Summer is over. Fall is upon us....PIRATES are coming soon.

Susanlynn: by my reckoning we still have 6 long telenovela months to cover before the reading of the codicil to Amador's will.

Julie:
--I LOVE your idea for a twist with old man de la Vega's genes muddying up the pool of Montalvo's. I'd give that the Telenovela Coinkydink Award!

About the baby's DNA, I think that the reason Aaron wants a DNA test is because he suspects that he may be the father. Afterall, he doesn't know that Isa had sex with Hilario or Frankie. Aaron is not above claiming the kid, even if it means he had sex with his cousins wife.

Anon..about the DNA..I had posted this earlier & I think Aaron mentioned it after I had posted, there is a DNA test for the Y Chromosome which is passed from father to son, it remains intact. Therefore, AAron would be a match for the baby as both are in line from Don Amador..he passed it Bruno/Aaron & Rod's father/Rod, that is why he doesn't need Rod to find out if the kid has Montalvo genes. Normal DNA testing does not do this test, but rather a random match from the mother & father to the child. This other DNA is used a lot in family tracing. In Cheddar England, a like 5,000 year old body was dug and they ran tests on males still living in the area and one man was a direct descendent.

Thank everyone for all the great and clever recaps. This story definitely draws one in. I can't wait to see it every night -- and read the recaps the next day.

I have a question. Will all the do-do hit the fan at once? Because it seems like time for someone to get theirs. Aaron, for example will get his from Isa (affair), Minnie (too numerous to mention), Rod(for tampering with product), family, Gavi. So will the last part of the will be the last hurrah or will things unfold slowly? I'm dying for someone to be held accountable for their actions.( or stupidity)

Soneone said we have a couple more months until the end. Any thoughts?

beckster: I'm still confused. I read your DNA explanation and still have a question. Wouldn't Aaron want to know if the Montalvo genes were his or Rod's specifically rather than just generally? He still needs Rod's DNA off a cup or something, doesn't he?

If there is any way for Aaron to claim the inheritance by backing into it via Isa's baby, he would throw Minnie over in a second and find somebody else and to hell with Rod's half of the family and their shock/surprise since he'd be all powerful. Isa was only a cousin by marriage biologically and legally, so crazier things have happened in wealthy and/or royal families down through history I would imagine. (Distasteful, sure, but.....) --So what am I missing here about your explanation? Thanks.......

Melanie: Nice to see you stick around! To answer your question more or less irreverantly--
generally speaking, the do-do will really begin to hit the fan over the done-done ;>)) during the "ultimas semanas" (final weeks) which start being advertised officially around 6 weeks prior to the finale. So if the finale is 9/16 in Mexico and the US is 10 wks behind them episodio-wise, the "desenlace" or denoument/unravelling of the plotline should officially begin in October for us up here.

The problem is that Uni has extended Destilando twice now because of production problems with Pasión. The finale was set for 9/3 after that first extension. So we may get pieces of the puzzle and part of the "desenlace" earlier, i.e., the DNA discovery.

Jardinera said: "Wouldn't Aaron want to know if the Montalvo genes were his or Rod's specifically rather than just generally?"

Does this mean people still think Aaron could be the father? I am pretty sure the timing is thoroughly, completely wrong, and there is no chance that Aaron could be the baby's father. I don't know about Hilario, but I'm 99.44% sure Aaron is a total impossibility. I think they did it ONCE, many many months before Frankie showed up... they made a second attempt but were rudely interrupted by the arrival of... uh... I think it was Rodrigo.

Right? (If I had ANY idea when this episode was, I'd look up the recap!)

I suppose it's also possible that Isa could have had an encounter that we don't know about, with Aaron or some other man. But Isa's convinced that Frankie is the father, and for the time being that's good enough for me.

(Anyway, if she thought it was Aaron's, there'd be little reason to keep it a secret... as long as the kid is the heir, she's got it made.)

Jardinera, you said something about the will and six months from now. I had been figuring the middle of NOvember as the end date for destilando. the mere thought of 6 more months of this is disheartening.

Regarding heredity. If as thought of in the begining, that Gavi is Almadon's (sorry for the misspell), then she is the aunt of rodrigo. If rod was adopted, they are fine. If not there are problems. If rod is adopted maybe he would not inherit anything. Fedora saw him as an infant and said he is hairy . So if he was adopted, it was as a baby. Also food for thought. The ending of the will can stipulate that if no one has the varon then the money goes to his daughter Gaviota. ROTF ROTF food for thought.

Because...Aaron knows he is not the father...that happened way too long along..he also knows it was no problem to get Isa to cheat, so if she'd do her best friend's husband..He figures she'd do someone else...he doesn't think the kid is his, he just wants to make sure it isn't Rod's and he can do that thru the Y DNA.
This is the easiest way to do it without getting Rod involved. This only works with males. The longer the line from the common ancestor the more likely of gene mutation...but it is calculated & very scientific. So to sum it up if Aaron's Y chromosome matched the babies..it would let him know that it was indeed Rod's child (or Bruno's), we know Aaron is out & I'm thinking Bruno is also.

I am so pleased to see so many of us are commenting on the intricacies of this plot three days after an episode. I don't have to feel isolated in my fanaticism. This is really well written to keep so many possibilities dangling. I noticed that when Aaron thought he could avoid further worry about the USB flash drive since he was able to get file copies from that sleeze ball Oñate, he mentioned during the last week that Oñate did not have the most current version of the data. Ahhh, justice to the cobarde, Aaron who wouldn't even give Pamela the courtesy of an adios. Cobarde is his true nature, he sure seems afraid of Ohhh, Pammy, break the code so you can have a weapon for your revenge. Money is the only way to really touch Aaron, through his wallet and bank accounts. Go Pammy go. Now I only have 7 hours left before I can immerse myself in the new week's episodes...

Julie/beckster: Ok. Sorry. I keep forgetting that timeline! Senior moments.....You're right, Aaron was interrupted the 2nd time (by Sofia) at the door and he snuck out, so now I remember. Thanks. --When did the new type of DNA Y chromosome gene thing come out? Probably 5-10 yrs ago and I missed it on my radar screen.....
=========
Ret:
That 6 month timeline is not real time. It is only telenovela fantasy/storyline time. There was 15 months left till the codicil reading at the time Isa got pregnant. So, after 9 months to have the baby we're left with 6 months till the codicil is read.

p.s. what does the ROTF mean? I've only known it to stand for "rolling on the floor" as in laughing.
8 ? ))

Yes, I first heard about the Y chromosome DNA..from the big did Tom Jefferson..sleep with Sallie Hemmings debacle..

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jefferson_DNA_Data

This is used alot in geneology. Since the time line from Don amador to Aaron/Rod/baby is much shorter it should be a near mathc..if the kid was Rod's..

FYI..there is also mapping from mitochondrial dna..which is passed in tact from Mother to child both male & female http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mitochondrial_DNA

at my old job I used to listen to NPR a lot & had way too much time on my hands so I would look all this up, plus at that time my family decided I needed to look up our background.

beckster: Thanks for the links!! I just read through a couple myself that I Googled. One is on that Cheddar Eng. with some other general genetic "Adam and Eve" (code names, not literally from any "Eden") background for you/ anybody else that might be curious. That stuff was publicized on the news a few years back and some big Universities here and in Europe have managed to genetically trace us all back to 3 tribes, 10 "sons of Adam" and 18 "daughters of Eve" in Africa it seems. --The second is a tutorial on how and why the Y DNA test Aaron is using works for people interested like your family was.

Pamela is so wishy washy and easily manipulated when it comes to Aaron i shall not hold my breath until she has reported Aarons dirty dealings.

I also think that Aaron just wants the DNA to prove that the baby is not Rod's.If the baby turns out to be his which i think is not.... he shall use this information at the last minute to get the montalvo furtune that is if minerva doesnt produce an heir soon.

I thought the will stipulated that the baby heir had to be from their wives (Rod & Aaron's) if so i dnt see how he would claim the fortune coz he is not married to Isa.....

*hani*

I'm participating in a huge DNA project and have had my mitcondrial DNA traced backed to African Eve and have a record of the migration of my mother's family. Mitochondrial DNA mutates more frequently than the Y chromosomes and now I have to pin my brother or cousin down to get their DNA to check our father's family migration. Unlike Mitochondrial DNA which both sexes carry Y chromosomes only pass to the boys. If you're interested in seeing more check this site

Back to Aron Rob and the baby. If Fedra never strayed than Aaron can use his DNA to match against the hair she took from Isa child. That will prove the child to be a Montalvo but not if it is Rod or Aron's which does open another interesting door.

Hani:

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong because it's been so long now, but I thought the kid could be illegit because all a guy has to do down there is to legally "recognize" it and it becomes an heir. (Don't know about up here, but I assume it's the same these days.)

That's why after Rod married Isa they were originally worried that Gavi had actually delivered his child rather than lost it.

Yeah ur right....lol i forgot about gavi's baby.

Jardinera, first, how did you know it was me asking about the 6 month time frame????? I usually put my name anyway (Ret); however, I didn't that time?? Also ROTF is rolling on the floor and ROTF with laughing added; however, I have found over the years, that people use the ROTF to also show that something said was just funny or to show that the person is not saying something in a serious fashion (ie. If the show continues six months, no way will I hang in there ROTF. This shows that I am not sitting here foaming at the mouth and my eyes buldging (mad). It is more of a figure of speech. I had a good theory on the heredity of gavi and rod, which I commented on earlier in these recaps for 8/31. However, I have a new enlightening. "What if" Gavi's baby did not die. What if the nuns felt it their duty to keep the child, since she wasn't married, or becuase she needed time to recuperate and Wa La, the baby shows up at the end?????? ROTF

To All. I don't know about you, but this tele is too intense for my blood. I had to tape the 31st, and look at the recaps first before watching it. That Isa is so bad. She is catching up to the woman in Amor de Fieras. How Isa can scream and yell about Rod and Gavi, when she is carrying another man's child. It doesn't even seem to register with her. Ella es tan ilògico.

Not likely that Gavi's baby will show up in the end. If that were the writers' intentions they would have put in lots of flashbacks of Gavi and the fatal moment, and lots of foreshadowing of Gavi continuing to be unable to cope with the loss of her child. Nope, that child is gone. But as I have said before, this novela is more about redemption than revelation, so there should be lots of future possibilities for Gavi's reproductive capacity. Speaking of reproduction, I need my Minerva fix. That girl is such a model-type=great clotheshorse. We have been getting too much Isa and not enouch Minnie. Although I will say I tried on an animal-print top today, just because of Isa's fashion influence. Too low cut for daily wear, but the bronzey colors were flattering. I would never have given it a second look without the wardrobe influence of Televisa. Now if I can just find some hair extentions. . .

Destilando Cafe: I am right there with you on the Fashions of Minerva. On the day when she and Isa busted Gavi at the corporativo (based on her singing) she was wearing the most awesome dress.

The only dress of hers I don't like (and have seen multiple times) is the white one with the red trim and dots. It's not awful but it'd be okay with me if she burned it.

Ret, we know it's you because of the ROTF. Hardly anyone uses ROTF that way anymore. Most say LOL (laughing out loud) instead, so when we see ROTF, we know it's you. :)

Plus I love it when Minerva and Fedra embrace and both roll their eyes unseen over each other's shoulder. (When Fedra and Pammy embrace, Fedra's eyes roll alone, Pammy is just not with it.) I am getting a real feel-good vibe off of all the characters in this novela--including the villains. I think the tone set by the actors will make it hard for the writers to kill anyone off.

Ret:

You told us you sign your anon. posts as Ret sometimes and I remembered the ROTF is all.....

Gaby's first pregnancy was definitely ended with that car wreck they showed us 20 times.
=============

Anon. 6:06pm -- We're all watching so we don't miss Rod and Gavi and the rest of the family ask Isa that very same question and embarrass the heck out of her. It should be easier to watch now because you know her secret about the pregnancy is going to finally be found out --this week probably from what the preview suggests. We'll let you know! ; ? )

Muchisimas gracias for the excellent recaps and the most informative comments. I laugh and learn everyday and love it.

That's the code for besos y lagrimas... with antonio banderas...its really funny...I hope the link works...take care my fellow bloggers and have a great day

...I wanted to put my two cents in about the ture paternity of the varon...we always see the thought bubble of Isa with Panchito...but that's because that's who she thinks the baby's father is...I bet the father of the baby is HILARO!!! I wouldn't even doubt it for one moment...because how else is Rodrigo going to find out that his help helped themselves to a little more than a shot of tequila with Gaviota!!! LOL

LoL....i tried to checkout yesterdays episode recap... checked under destilando the last recap shows it was made on 08/31/07.I did find ystday recap but coundnt make a comment.

We got struck by lightning (need a new chimney) and some of the electrical appliances have taken on alternate personalities. I haven't been able to find a recap for Monday. Is it my computer? Not a complaint, no pressure...

I can't see any recaps past the 31st either! I'm having recap withdrawal!
