Pasion - Dec. 20, 2007 EARTHQUAKE! Family reunion, and a fake ID for Rico

Episode 13 - December 20, 2007:

* Cami sits and looks out the window in her hotel room. Jimena talks with her, but Cami doesn't seem to pay any attention. Jimena answers the door. Santo asks to speak with Cami. As Jimena tries to shut the door and get rid of him, Cami stops her and says it's okay, he can come in. Jimena leaves. Tearful reunion! Cami scolds him about the four years they have been apart, he sought comfort with her own sister! Santo has to explain, defend himself (with tears in his eyes). Cami breaks down crying over all the struggles and hardships she had to endure, and still remain loyal to him. Santo hugs her - they cry together - he falls to his knees and wails and begs for her forgiveness.

* Family discussion around Ofelia's dining room table. Rita is pacing back and forth. Vasco is content because now Santo and Cami can talk together. Rita snaps and yells her fear that Santo and Cami may become lovers. Justo gets up, slaps his daughter hard across her face - so hard she falls on the ground and cracks a bunch of eggs with her fall. Justo and Rita argue - Rita runs inside crying. Justo is in disbelief and bewilderment. Ofelia and Vasco try to put a positive spin on what's happening, as they thought-bubble together what is going on with Cami and Santo right now.

* Cami stands by the window; Santo sits on a bed. Cami realizes that maybe they aren't meant to be together. Santo walks to her and tells her if he had received any letter or anything at all, he would've waited. He wonders why she didn't try to get home or even contact him. Cami explains how from the moment she was auctioned off to her marriage to her owner, she was basically under house arrest without anyone to help her. Santo understands better and repeats to Cami that she is the love of his life, always has been. Cami reminds him that he is married now. Santo says it's only because of their families insistence about her never returning and that Rita had been doting over him the whole time. Cami asks if he's been a good husband. He reluctantly says that he tries to be. Cami cries, sits on the bed and tries to break it off with Santo. Santo kneels and hugs Cami and cries, he doesn't want to let her go.

* Crispin stops by sewing room to tell Ines and Ofelia that Santo left the shop and hasn't returned. Ines and Ofelia thought-bubble to themselves, where could he be?

* Rita cries in the bedroom. Ofelia enters - they discuss Santo being with Cami right now. Rita is scared and nervous - she loves Santo, but realizes that he still loves Cami. She thinks he may return to Cami, and dump her. Ofelia says that neither Santo nor Cami are that type of person to do that. Rita is scared. Ofelia gives her some advice - change her attitude, don't talk badly about Cami, and treat her sister with the respect she deserves. Ofelia leaves. Rita cries.

* Ascanio and Claudio return to Cami and Jimena's room, they have found a mansion available to purchase. Cami stares out the window as Claudio talks. Claudio asks about arranging a tour of the mansion. Cami okays the plan. The guys note Cami's mood; they don't press about details instead they leave. Jimena talks with Cami about Santo and their reunion meeting earlier in the room. Cami cries.

* As Ascanio and Claudio go downstairs and passed the front desk, they wonder about Cami's sad mood.

* In La Mariana church. Mercedes' funeral procession is leaving the church. Friar Rico brings up the rear.

* At the house, Mario gives his sympathies to Rico over his mom's death. Epi tells Rico that Padrino Gaspar wants to see him. Epi leaves. Fran helps Lis sit at table. Fran, Lis and Rico discuss plan to get inheritance back from Cami. Rico asks Fran if they are positive the marriage was never consumated. Fran is very sure and cites Tim's doctor as proof. Rico and Mario exchange glances.

* Rico meets at monastery with Padre Gaspar. They discuss Rico's successful trip (Rico now has the funds needed to retire from piracy). Gaspar is sorry about Tim's and Mercedes' deaths.

* Fran yells up to Epi - where are Rico and Lis? Epi answers. Fran goes inside.

* Fran finds Lis going through Mercedes' personal effects. Fran has Lis sit down. Fran sits and explains the folder and papers she just found in Tim's boxes - the letter from the doctor about Tim's health. Lis is so excited. They hug.

* Gaspar and Rico discuss Rico's deathbed promise to his mother. Gaspar says these promises are sacred and can't be broken. They discuss Cami, where she is now. Gaspar comes up with idea = motive and plan - to meet Cami and complete his promise to his mother. Rico listens intently.

* Rico returns to house and talks with Mario in private sitting area. Rico explains Gaspar's plan and shows Mario the new identification documents for him to use (fake ID). Mario wonders what they will do if Cami sees them. Rico says like in any battle, the best way to win is to know thine enemy really well. Mario agrees. Fran knocks and enters the salon. She shows Rico the medical letters in the folder. He wonders what she would like to do with them. She says that is up to him. He hands the folder back to her and says, get everything packed and ready to go - they are leaving tomorrow.

* Ursula and her friends are having archery practice with pineapple targets in the patio. Alberto watches from the side - Manuela whispers to Ursula that Alberto wants to speak with her. Ursula walks over to Alberto. He asks to marry her. Ursula says no, too old. He wonders about her interest in Vasco. She says may be, may be not. Alberto tries again with forcefulness and threats to get Ursula to say yes. She doesn't like the threats and tells Alberto off. Alberto watches Ursula return to her friends - Ursula shoots off one arrow then turns and exchanges evil glances with Alberto.

* In the hotel lobby, Jimena tells Claudio and Ascanio about Santo's visit with Cami earlier, that Santo is married to Cami's sister Rita now. Claudio and Ascanio understand. Cami comes down and the group leaves together.

* Claudio presents Cami to the house's head maid. The maid lets the group inside the courtyard. The maid asks Cami about her father, Justo, then mentions how the whole town thought she was dead. Ascanio thinks fast to stop the maid and change the subject back to touring the mansion. The maid escorts them through the place.

* Vasco and Justo are at the market store, talking about Cami's return. EARTHQUAKE!!!! Everything shakes, rattles and falls on the floor. Everyone starts to panic and runs to the street. Cami, Ascanio, Claudio and Jimena are on the street - Cami runs over to Justo and Vasco - make sure they are alright, and keep Justo from re-entering the store. Cami and Vasco hug. Rita runs down the street - she stops in place when she sees Cami with their father and brother. The sisters hug. As Rita says, it's a miracle, Santo hobbles up to them. Cami says we need to talk later. Cami returns to the family huddle. Santo asks Rita where his mom and sister are. Rita tells him. He hobbles quickly away. Rita joins the family huddle. Soon a small group bring a wounded boy into town. Vasco takes off his shirt and carries the boy to the medical clinic.

* Santo finds his mom and sister in the fields/woods looking for herbs. They return to town to check on earthquake damages.

* Cami, Justo, Vasco, Ascanio, Claudio and Jimena arrive at the family mill - which is in ruins now. Justo is shocked and distraught. Vasco and Cami try to stay positive with future. Cami offers to use her inheritance to rebuild. Justo refuses to accept it. She begs and convinces him to accept. She says that he, Vasco and Paco are the most important people to her. Justo wonders about Rita. Cami walks to stairs and sits down; Justo apologizes; Cami still is having a hard time accepting the marriage. As Santo arrives, Cami runs up the stairs - she looks down at Santo with tears in her eyes before going inside.

* Mercurio gives Jorge and Alberto the mansion damage report. Sofia and Fortunata come down to talk with Jorge about the same subject - they leave to help out in town. Jorge sends Mercurio to town. Jorge and Alberto stay in the salon and discuss the search for a husband for Ursula - and that Alberto's offer had been shot down flat. Jorge changes the subject and asks about the husband search for Manuela - Alberto doesn't have time to do it. Jorge offers to have Sofia help.

* At the house in La Mariana, Rico and Mario discuss the delicate plan on the balcony patio. Lis interrupts to asks questions about what to pack, when they will leave, and how the trunks will be transported. Rico and Mario explain. Lis leaves. Mario chuckles with the thought bubble about Rico and Cami meeting again. Rico on the other hand is very nervous about that moment.

* Sofia, Fortunata are helping Ofelia, Ines, Ramona and Carmela in Ofelia's kitchen prepare the food for the townspeople. Ofelia tells Sofia and Fortunata that Cami has returned, where Cami was all this time. Sofia is shocked; Fortunata is happy Cami has come back home. Justo arrives; Sofia and Justo discuss all the damage to town, the mill and the displaced townsfolk due to the earthquake.

* Justo escorts Sofia and Fortunata back to the mansion. In the courtyard, Justo and Sofia finish their discussion about her offer to help rebuild the mill - he refuses to accept it. They discuss Cami's return. Justo leaves. Sofia calls Fortunata a busybody gossip as they go inside.

* Fortunata finds Ursula bored in her room. Fortunata tells her the latest gossip about Cami. Ursula is happy for her, but is really bored and depressed. Fortunata asks about Tita; Ursula supposes she's with her nanny. Fortunata mentions the husband search. Ursula tells her to stop it, she doesn't wish to discuss it. Fortunata asks about the young handsome fellow the other night (Vasco). Ursula feigns ignorance, then vents her outrage over her father's order for her to remarry - she vows that she will decide when and with whom she will marry.

* Jorge talks with Sofia in the patio garden about Ursula's husband search. Jorge shocks Sofia that he offered for her to play matchmaker for Manuela also. Sofia stops going through Tita's dresses to express her outrage. Jorge leaves. Sofia grumbles. Fortunata enters. They talk about the husband search for Ursula as they sort/pack up the dresses.

* Jimena sits by window with sewing, as Cami gives Vasco three bags of coins to be used for rebuilding the mill. Vasco and Ascanio leave. Jimena mentions who handsome Vasco is - Cami mentions his problem with gambling. The subject turns to Cami's family and especially her feelings towards her sister Rita. Cami can't understand how or why Rita married Santo. Jimena wonders if Rita always had feelings for him. Cami isn't sure about that. Cami looks in her hand mirror and wonders if she's ugly. Jimena says no, she's just tired. (Ed. Note: No, actually Cami you've been crying so much, it's starting to show on your face.) Cami starts to say her plans to purchase the mansion they toured and the plan for rebuilding the mill, and then Cami starts to cry again. Jimena consoles Cami.

* Santo is outside his house, at night. He puts on his shirt and wonders whether he can stop thinking about Cami now.

* In the bedroom, Rita is laying in bed. Santo enters, takes off his shirt, and gets in bed. Rita asks Santo about Cami's return and what it means to their marriage. She cries. He rolls over and says that he intends to stand by the marriage vows they took. They hug. He thought bubbles a prayer for help and guidance.

ADVANCE: Can Santo be a friend to Cami and be a good husband to Rita? What will happen to Cami now that Rico and his family have arrived in San Fernando?

Thanks for the recap. I'm excited to see Ric dressed as a gentleman. What was tht coy look with his hand hiding half his mouth in the previews?

Santiago is too whiny for me. Couldn't believe he tried blaming Camila for not trying to escape a second time. He is weak as water.

If the "courts" or whoever decide that Cami cannot inherit Tim's estate because the marriage wasn't consummated, wouldn't she still have the trunk of gold that his family doesn't seem to know about?
Heck, let Lis have the old house and land....gold is king!

J. R., thanks for the terrific recap! We're headed out of town before the snow, and it looks like you're getting accumulation, homegirl. Stay warm and dry.

So, Fran had to cough up cold, hard cash to "prove" Tim couldn't have done the deed? That's an irony, isn't it? Ha! Serves her right! Cami probably would have told them if they asked her, I'm guessing.

Jeanne

Thanks for the recap! Since I can 't watch "pasion" here, it's like reading a novel!

I really like Ursula, except for her lack of interest in her own child. She is not exactly a villain and she is not exactly a good person which is not usual in telenovelas where the characters are saints or paranoid

Sophia from Greece

Thanks for the recap JR. Would not consummating the marriage nullify the will? Tio Tim didn't seem to make a stipulation on Cami bearing a child to receive what he gave her. So I'm at a lost as to why that info was important (except perhaps for Ric).

Great recap!

You guys are terrific!! When I'm having a terrible day, I know I can always count on you guys to make me laugh! :)

I'm hoping someone can clear this up, because I'm confused...last night durig Cami and Santi's sob fest, Cami tells Santi that she waited 4 years for him and he couldn't even wait 1...ok, now was she gone a total of 4 yrs or was that when Santi was gone?

Because when Cami was reunited with Jimena again, and bought her, Jimena said that she hadn't seen Cami for either 1 or 2 years...

I hope its discovered that Rita received letter and basically ditched it to have Santi all to herself...personally I was glad she got the snot slapped outta her! Talk about toxic relatives!!!

Novela is still a little slow, but it is shaping up nicely...

He was gone four years, she was gone less than one.

Granted he thought she was dead and therefore thought he didn't have anything to wait for... but to marry her sister after less than a year had passed, that's ridiculous.

It was so obvious that he was only "settling" for her, I'm surprised everyone didn't try to talk her out of it. (Not that she would have listened.)

I'm not sure if Rita truly deserved that slap, but I was still very happy to see it. :-)

As for Cami waiting 4 years and Santi only waiting 1--I took that to mean he married Rita after Cami had been gone a year.

It's so great to see Ascanio smile. I thought it might be months or almost never as in Amar Sin Limites, that dog of a show.

Thanks JR!
Geez, that Santi is the biggest cry baby I've ever seen. He says Camila didn't try hard enough, while not taking responsibility for doing what everybody "told" him to do.

Now, I'm confused about some minor details. Maybe someone can tell me--where's the money?? Is it in that trunk they're hauling around with the clothing? Do they store it in the hotel room, while they're running errands? Wearing all their finery, telling everyone she's a rich widow--doesn't that put a big bullseye on her?
Also, if she buys a big house in town, won't Jorge want a piece of the tax action?
These are just a few of the questions inquiring minds are pondering. OTOH, who cares, as long as Antillano and Mario get more air time...

Hi Julie! I finally managed to send a comment!

Could someone tell me the name of the actor who plays Ascanio? I would really like to see how he looks like.

Sophia from Greece

I have some questions too!

How big a “town” is this? In a small village, the gossip that Cami was back would have been all over in about an hour.
Also, it’s amazing that there is a mansion to rent in town! They have extras, sitting empty?
How come nobody when they first saw Cami said “where’d you get that dress?” I mean, she left a simple girl and came back a fluffy-lacy fantasy queen, all in white.

And a comment: That was one selective earthquake. As I live in the L.A. area, I can attest that after an earthquake like that, everything that was in a cabinet, or sitting on a surface is now on your floor, lots of it in shards. The kitchen is usually a sea of liquids, spiked with glass. And yet, here is Jorge in his rich-guy mansion and his rich-guy stuff is sitting here and there unscathed. I noted particularly the big candlesticks on the mantle. He must have a huge staff to have cleaned up in the short time frame.

Thank you Captain Nickel/Julie!! Greatly appreciate it.

I thought that was right, but I wanted to make sure.

I was glad she was slapped, too! LOL

I really like Jimena...she seems to have the most common sense, and hopefully Cami will listen to her.

Can't wait for tonight's episode, in where Ric & co arrive in San Fernando...

Sophia from Greece - The actor who plays Ascanio is named Marcelo Córdova. I only remembered that his first name was Marcelo and just did a google search for 'marcelo' - BIG HINT, DON'T DO GOOGLE IMAGE SEARCH WITH THAT. I don't know if marcelo is code for 'naked men' or what but that's what you'll get. Just to warn you. Search with his whole name. I'm going to have to wash my eyes out with bleach. I'm glad you are reading us every day even though you can't watch the show, that's great!

Whoever asked about the 4 years/1 year - the 4 years part was in the very first episode, maybe you missed it, Santiago returned home after being gone for 4 years, Camila waited for him the whole time. Then, as others here have just said, Camila was only gone one year before Santiago married Rita.

I too was appalled when Santiago tried to make it her fault for not being McGuyver and making multiple escape attempts. WTF. That comment alone should have told Camila everything she needs to know about what a horrible pansy wuss Santiago is, but no. She's too busy crying for 45% of each show's running time. I think she has the same contract about crying for a certain amount each episode that Jackie Bracamontes (sp?) had in Heridas de Amor. I am really enjoying this show, but the endless crying is killing me.

I believe even more now, after Rita collapsed right on top of her buried letter, that the letter will resurface. Too many references to it and then Rita returning to the scene of the crime. That will be the final piece of the puzzle that sends Camila running to get busy with Captain Ric, I'm sure.

Also, about Camila's money - I think the whole argument they are going to make is that if Tim and Camila never did the wikiwiki that the marriage isn't valid and the money belongs to Lis or Ric or somebody else, I guess it would invalidate the will. So the basis of the next however many months of the show is that an old man couldn't get an erection. How did that go at the script pitch meeting? "Ok, the whole deal is that this old guy can't get it up..."

I made the comment too to my wife last night as we were watching, OK so they invalidate the marriage, they still have to find the money! Camila has all the cash in a locked chest under the careful eye of Ascanio.

Yes, Rita did collaspe on ground where she buried the letter. Well not exactly collaspe, more like she threw herself in a hissy fit, then started to grab handfuls of dirt and fling it every which way...

Yea, ok, what on earth did Santi expect Cami to do? Rapel down the mansion walls? In a gown or another pair of breeches?

I don't want Santi for Cami at this point, cuz he is such a, I don't want to say loser, but more of a wimp, but at the same time, I am really wanting Santi and everyone else to discover what a coniving, desparate bith Rita is that she would sell her sister down the river without a paddle to get the man she wants.

I don't ask for much...just justice!! LOL

Hi everyone. Love this blog...You forgot mention though, which I thought was a juicy part of the novela...when Ursula threatens that guy....that she will have him killed if anything happens to Vasco...It was so threatening, and she looked like she meant it!

On another note...has anyone noticed how Fortunata is so B-I-G! That was la maestra Jimena from Carrusel....and can someone please explain the beauty mark?! First time I saw it it was on her rack....later below her eyebrow, and in yesterday's episode, she is talking to Ursula, walks over to the mirror and moves it to another position. Hilarious, but what was the meaning of that?

And everyone's right...I see fashions from the 1300's...1600's...1800's and 1700's....and don't let me get started on the hairdo's!!!! You all have a very merry Christmas!

Just looking at the post I just made, and I thought I had preview mode so that I may correct my typos, but when I went to go correct my typos and spell check, I had actually posted it!

So I apologize for the all the misspelled words...can't seem to spell today or type for that matter!

Ferro94 - thanks so much for the research and the information. I am also sorry about the naked photos!

The recaps are so good that I cannot resist reading them!

So, if you don 't have sex when you are married, the marriage is not valid. Interesting. That was new for me. I wonder if there is the same law today.

Carrusel!! I remember it! I was so little and I was dying to watch it!

Sophia from Greece

Santiago makes me think of Ashley Wilkes. Which would make our pirate Rhett Butler!

Santiago does remind me of Ashley Wilkes (He got on my nerves on GWTW and he was so wimpy) and Ric as Rhett Butler. So that makes Camila Scarlett LOL. I want to see Camila become a little more fiesty and less crying. Other than that I'm loving this novela.

Anon 6:09 Cami has the Scarlett O'Hara hair, but she's not nearly mean enough. Actually, Rita has the mean genes.

Jeanne

And by the way, folks, we all know it doesn't matter if the marriage was consummated or not, since Ric's going to handle that little detail and the fortune will stay in the family. And how nice for us we get a few more weeks to see it unfold as Ric works his magic. (siiiiigghhh)

;-)

Jeanne

That mole, that roving mole... well I'm not sure about the time period, but I recall reading (long ago) that ladies in a certain historical period would draw a "beauty mark" on themselves because they believed that they needed a flaw to show off how otherwise perfect they were.

I'm not sure if I'm remembering that right or not, but it seems like the sort of silly thing that she might do.

My Spanish instructor, of Mexican origin, has said that moles are very much a beauty mark in Latin America because it shows how much "Spanish" you have in you. The indigenous folks don't have moles. Hair is a big deal too.

Well..I'd swear I made the old man scream things pirates never even thought of...if fact I swear he was calling "Oh My God", so loud the last time, that God must have thought he wanted to go home. Then I would get x-servant guy to swear to it. I mean doctor's in those days slapped leeches on you and that is as far as it went.

No would get my golden ducats.

"Well..I'd swear I made the old man scream things pirates never even thought of...if fact I swear he was calling "Oh My God", so loud the last time, that God must have thought he wanted to go home."

ROFL...

And here I thought only sailor's thought like that!!

For those viewers who have time to read...

"Lord Johnnie", by Leslie Turner White, published in 1949. Easily one of the best "pirate" stories and would make a fantastic movie or novela.

"She Captains - Heroines and Hellion's of the Sea", by Joan Druett, published in 2000. An interesteting, somewhat "dry" historical study of women and ships. I was surprised by some of the things that I learned from this book, since most histories are written from a "male" perspective.

J.R.,
This was another terrific recap as always. Thanks.

Sophia,
I'm in Greece too and I'm watching Pasión (the mexican broadcast). You can see it on esmas.com (tv in vivo). They keep videos for two weeks. And if you can accept the quality of video on youtube you can see many clips there (keys for your search: Colunga Pasión)

JR~~~Thanks for the recap. I am hoping that Ric and Mario arrive in town in the next episode and start to stir the pot. I enjoyed the archery lesson . When a guy is hitting on you and you are just not interested, showing your ability at shooting an arrow straight and true could prove helpful in getting your point across...''I said 'NO. Good day, Sir' '' I also liked the way Ascanio rolled up his sleeves and pitched right in at the mill after the earthquake. What-a-good-guy. It's refreshing that Marcelo is not a tialoving abuelokiller in this telenovela. I like him playing good guys....seems more true to his real personality. So, Camila is the miller's daughter ?

Helen J - thank you so much for the information! I really want to see how they act and if their clothes are nice and everything!

Sophia from Greece

Wonderful recap JR. I am liking this show more and more.

Santiago gets on my nerves but that boy sure is an eye taco. I feel sorry for him in his hopeless situation, poor wimp, so I hope he spends lots of time removing his shirts and moping around town.

I like Ursula so far. She's got backbone and she knows what she wants. I was interested to hear a little of her past history, married off young to an old fart, etc.

Brenda, I'm glad you mentioned Ursula's threat. I agree, that was very cool scene!

Mad Bess Kidd/Susanlynn, ain't it great to see our fave Marcelo again? I am very happy to once again be in the midst of old friends such as Fernando, Marcelo, Marianna and others.

I hope Sophia from Greece manages to find some video of this show. There is so much cool stuff to see...crazy wigs, great costumes, beautiful people...

Hi Brenda: Yes, Fortunata is a big girl! What she was putting on her face was a beauty spot also called a patch - see this from answers.com:

— beauty spots, not to be confused with birthmarks or freckles — are associated with a dark spot, usually on the face. Historically they have been seen as a mark of beauty, highlighting and identifying an area on the face such as on the cheek-brow, near to the mouth, or near the chin. The placing, either naturally or artificially, of the beauty spot, is thought to enhance the natural features of the person, making them more attractive, more sexually wanton and, therefore, more beautiful. -

A fashionable woman in the 18th century had a patch box and part of putting on her makeup was putting on a patch or two to accent her beauty.

Someone mentioned that ascanio was keeping his eye on the chest of moolah. So what happens when he accompanies the boy to find his mother. Who will be watching the store?
