La Traición, Episode 18

Hugo wonders why Soledad is going into the mine. He says that for him, going into the mine is like returning to the coffin. Flashback to Hugo being buried alive. "Now, what do I do?" he asks himself.

Beatriz grabs Alcides' gun and says that she remembers that it was he who raped her. She says that she will kill him. Alcides goes down on his knees.

Hercules, Rebeca and Elois bicker about how things went with Ester.

Alcides uses his kneeling position to grab some dirt and throw it in Beatriz' face. Then he overpowers her. He says that he has to kill her and is about to do so when Arturo shows up.
Hugo puts on his bandido mask and goes into the mine with the police in pursuit. [Ah, the mine. What adventures we will have in this mine.] Hugo finds Soledad and asks why she is following him. Soledad says that she has to know who he is. He says that the mine is dangerous and they have to leave.

Alcides tells Arturo that when he found Beatriz, she attacked him. Beatriz tells Arturo that she isn't crazy and won't go back to the sanatorium. Alcides insists to Arturo that Beatriz is in bad shape. Artuto tells Alcides that he should be worried about his wife , not Beatriz. He tells Alcides that Soledad was last seen following the robber towards the mine.

Lucas scolds Ester for being rude to Rebeca and Eloisa. Ester replies that she thinks Rebeca is a gold digger. She scolds Lucas for offering to give away their posessions when they are in a precarious financial condition. When Lucas tells her that the stuff Jeremias' gave them has no value, Ester doesn't agree. She says that if Rebeca wants the stuff, it must be more valuable than it appears.

Hugo and Soledad run around in the collapsing mine. He tells her to trust him ('Confia en mi') just like he did when they were courting. They fall down in each other's arms.

The Inspector and his men reach the entrance to the mine. Hugo and Soledad have the entrance in sight. The Inspector tells Hugo to come out with his hands up.

Rebeca, Eloisa and Hercules return to the house they have sold to Hugo and find it trashed. They hear noises upstairs.

In the mine, Hugo comes over all woozy and then he passes out. Soledad tells the Inspector that she is in the mine.

Hercules and the carriage driver chase the thief and shoot at him.

Soledad can't rouse Hugo. She says that she doesn't know what to do. She decides to find out who he is and starts to pull his mask down. At that moment, Boris, also in a mask, stops her. However, Soledad is sucessful in pulling Boris' mask down.

Rebeca tells Eloisa that the thief in the house is undoubtedly, Enrico, the servant of her dead husband.

Soledad is full of questions about why Boris is in the mine but he only tells her that she has to get out of the mine and that he will take care of the mysterious masked man. Soledad heads for the entrance to the mine.

Boris returns to the still unconscious Hugo and says that he is afraid Hugo is having another catalepsy attack.

The police are about to go into the mine when Alcides rides up. He accuses the Inspector of cowardice and says that he will go into the mine after is wife when Soledad comes out of the mine. Elena witnesses this.

Eloisa and Rebeca determine that nothing is missing from the house. Rebeca concludes that Enrico came back to look for clues to the treasure of her dead husband. Meanwhile, Enrico gets the drop on Hercules and tells him that he knows that he and Rebeca killed Jeremias and that Hercules has no right to the treasure. The coachman shoots and wounds Enrico.

Back at the cabaña in the forest, Elena tells Dr. Max that Hugo is trapped in the mine by the police. Dr. Max remembers the air ducts for the mine and tells Los Burque that they can rescue Hugo that way.

Hugo comes around. Boris reassures him that Soledad didn't discover his identity. Hugo tells Boris that he knows where the air ducts are for the mine. The police demand that Hugo come out of the mine.

Soledad tells Ursula, Marina and Paquito that she didn't find out who the masked bandit was but if she didn't know that Hugo was dead, she would have sworn it was Hugo. She stells them that Boris was in the mine and stopped her from removing Hugo's mask.

Beatriz threatens to kill herself if Arturo takes her back to the sanatorium. Arturo swears that he won't do that.

Hercules loses Enrico's trail.

Waiting outside the mine, Alcides picks up what Hugo is feeling in the same way he did when Hugo woke up in his grave: he almost passes out and chokes. [I did not remember this scene before. It explains how Alcides knew that Hugo would be incapacitated in the mine when he traps him there with Soledad a few episodes later. It didn't make sense that Alcides would have been able to guess that because as we have seen, Hugo did not have a problem with enclosed spaces before he was buried alive. This scene also must be when Alcides figures out that Hugo is still alive.] Alcides insists on going into the mine. Duarte and the police follow. Soledad wants to go back in there, too to keep the police from hurting the man who saved her life. Paquito won't let her go back into the mine.

Boris helps Hugo walk until they find the ventilation shaft. They are wondering how they will get out through the shaft when a rope comes down. It's Los Burke and Dr. Max.

Meanwhile Alcides is looking for Boris in the mine. He stands right under Hugo and Boris who are dangling at the end of the rope. Fortunately, he doesn't look up or wonder where the daylight is coming from. Alcides and the police finally figure out that team Hugo escaped by the air shaft.

Team Hugo is running away from the mine. While they rest for a minute, Dr. Max tells Hugo that Beatriz escaped. Hugo says that they have to find her - she know that it was Alcides who attacked her.

Arturo takes Beatriz to his house (Hugo's old house) and she has a tearful reunion with her mother.

Alcides and the police come out of the mine and tells Soledad and Úrsula that the bandidos escaped. Alcides pulls Marina aside and demands to know where the criminals are hiding. Marina denies knowing anything. Alcides is about to hit her when first Soledad and then Inspector Duarte intervene. At first Alcides refuses to let Marina come to the hacienda with Soledad but Paquito persuades him to change his mind. He tells Alcides that he should keep Marina close by until he finds out who is behind all this. Alcides agrees.

He tells Paquito to take the women to the hacienda while he takes care of some other business. Soledad thanks him. To himself, Paquito says that nothing is in this life is free.

Back at Hugo's old house, Alcides tells Arturo that Boris and Los Burke were behind the thefts from the vault. Alcides says that he will get them. Arturo replies that he better get the items to repay his loan or he will take it from Alcides' inheritence. Alcides tells Arturo that he assumes that Beatriz has been returned to the Sanatorium. Arturo and then Doña Gladis tell him that Beatriz is not returning to the sanatorium. She will stay at home and receive medical treatment there. Alcides mentions that Beatriz mistook him for Hugo and tried to kill him earlier. Arturo assures him that he and Gladis will keep Beatriz safe. Dr. Max arrives to consult about Beatriz and Alcides asks to get some things from his old room.

Alcides goes to Beatriz' room where she is sleeping and starts to smother her with a pillow. He is attacked from behind.

Dr. Max promotes treating Beatriz by hypnotism. Arturo wants Dr. Max to see Beatriz at once. He makes excuses about why he can't see her that night. Arturo wonders if there was some other motive for his visit.

Meanwhile, back in Beatriz' room, Hugo succeeds in overpowering Alcides. Arturo, Gladis and Dr. Max rush upstairs when they hear a loud noise from Beatriz' room. She tells them that she fell out of bed and is ok. Dr. Max sees that Hugo is in the room and says that he wants to speak ot Beatriz alone. Gladis is suspicious but Arturo persuades her to leave with him. Once they are gone, Hugo pops out of the closet with the unconscious Alcides and tells Dr. Max that Alcides tried to suffocate Beatriz.

Hercules reports his failure to find Enrico to Rebeca. He tells her that Enrico knows that they murdered Jeremias and that Enrico was wounded by a bullet and might be dead.

Enrico is staggering through the woods.

Soledad, Úrsula, Marina and Paquito have stopped on the road to wait for Alcides. Paquito asks why Soledad was so interested in going after the bandido who looked like Hugo. Soledad says that it was Hugo's voice, his look, the way he spoke to her. It seemed as if Hugo were there. She goes on to tell Paquito about the other times that she had seen or felt Hugo's presence since he died. She describes her psychic link with Hugo when he was alive. She says that this is different. It's real and she has to find out who is behind it all. She tells Paquito that sometimes she thinks she is going crazy. At that moment, Enrico staggers into the clearing and collapes.

Dr. Max injects Alcides with something to keep him asleep. Beatriz wants Hugo to finish him off but Hugo says that he has a better plan. He will make it so that Alcides is wracked with guilt his whole life.

The credits roll.

Jean -- Have a great trip. Please tell us about your adventure when you get back. My guess is that Soledad still will not have figured out that Hugo is alive.

I'm glad Enrique finally showed up to thicken the stew. Interesting that while Rebecca and Co. are trying to find the clue in the house of Lucas, Enrique is searching through their stuff. Maybe they have the clue and just don't know it. I loved the way he took down Hercules. I was thinking that he's be a perfect addition to Hugo's motley crew, but he ran into Soledad and her entourage instead. Surprise!

Jean, I hope you have a fabulous trip!

Just got caught up on this action packed episode. I thought Enrique would be added to Hugo's 'team' but fortunately he's on the Soledad camp. By the way, are they at a 'rest stop' enjoying a fireside chat on their way home?

I'm enjoying all the twists and turns this story has. Even with the silliness of not recognizing Hugo, there's lots of other plots to consider. I'm beginning to think that Rebecca really is loca, since she didn't bother to mention that Alcides was the one that raped her...

I got two phone calls during Friday's episode and had a really busy weekend, so I have just caught up. I love the idea of secret passageways so Hugo can invade the house and be an ominous presence. Boris says he's no murderer, but he is going to make Alcides wish he was dead.

JB, I think you mean Beatriz really is loca, not Rebecca. I wonder what she and Fabio have up their sleeves. She's the one that will kill Alcides if she can. I love all the intrigue and assortment of colorful characters in this one.

Yes Beatriz, that's what I meant, Kay! Glad you caught up and didn't miss anything. I think this novela has been so fun and full of unexpected things happening.
The hidden passages are great, along with the torturing of Alcides. I wish Soledad's mother would get some of that punishment, she's evil and deserving of some.
I hope the Monday previews aren't teasing us. It looks like Soledad & Hugo are going to get together for some loving...

jb -- I don't know. I have a suspicion that the scene is a flashback or something. It's far too soon for Hugo and Soledad to be back together.

As for Ester, it seems that although she saved the house they don't have much to live on. Someone on TW suggested that she may end up trying to sell that stuff to Rebecca in order to make ends meet or have a yard sale. Can't you just see Ester having a yard sale!! LOL

It looks like Soledad really has met up with Hugo, but he is going to make her miserable because he really believes she has betrayed him. I know from the character descriptions that Hugo is going to be impersonating Alcides, driving everyone crazy. But if Alcides knows that Soledad knows Hugo is alive, what's to stop him from impersonating Hugo? I have a feeling this is really going to get very complicated very soon.

I'm hoping Hugo doesn't take his revenge on Soledad too far. Last night was hard to watch. I never imagined Soledad being placed in the madhouse in a straight jacket. And who is going to be visiting her in the hospital -- Hugo or Alcides ( or one impersonating the other)??

Now that Enrico has overheard Rebecca and Co. talking about clues at the Obregon house, there is going to be a traffic jam of treasure hunters over there. Oh, and Paquito now knows about the treasure hunt too. I'm sure he'll want to join.

It looks like Dr. Max must have the preserved body of his deceased wife in that armoire. Remember that Evita Peron's body traveled the world for years before being laid to rest. Maybe he is looking for a way to bring her back to life, and that is why he is interested in Hugo's malady. Who knows?

Last night was hard to watch. Hugo kept asking why Soledad did it, but wouldn't stop to listen to her. Of course, she didn't bother to say anything either. typical novela dialog.

Is there a back story of Dr. Max wife? I missed the beginning weeks. Maybe she had catalepsy too!

Beatriz does seem at least a little loca. She keeps flying off the handle and digging herself in deeper.

Speaking of digging a hole for yourself...Soledad does it perfectly. All she had to do was shut up and she could stay out of the sanitorium and continue on her Hugo hunt...

I forgot to program my VCR today before I walked out of the house, so I totally missed tonight's program. Can someone please fill me in?

I just saw bits and pieces. Here is what I saw. It is no in any particular order.

Other commenter’s: please feel free to add/correct anything.

Hugo and Co ae going to the Cabaña to retrieve all his stuff before Alcides puts two and two together and go there before them. There was a broken carriage in the middle of the road and it was Ursula. Hugo and the Burkes hide under some blankets.

She tells Boris about Soledad and the mad house and tries to look what is under the blankets. Conveniently, she only sees the Burkes. Hugo decides to go to the mad house because he feels guilty about what is happening to Soledad. He sends his band of desperados to collect his things and bring them to the doctor’s house.

He goes there and talks to her. She is being drugged by the same doctor who was taking care of the other woman(I can’t remember her name. I am not very good with names. Sorry). She is telling him that she is worry about what happened, that she did not betray him and that she is willing to pay for her mistakes(I call came in and I missed most of their conversation.)

Alcides goes to see the Judge about the inheritance. The Judge is not too friendly with him and asks him to bring some documentation that afternoon to prove that he is in fact Hugo’s sibling.

Esther and Lucas come back home after a walk on the park I find the little man searching for the clues to the treasure. They had him cornered and at that moment the widow’s niece and the gay/no gay boyfriend appear to inquire about Soledad. They think she is telling the truth. They are told that Soledad was sent to the loony house. They start to concoct a plan to spring her from the clinic.

Marina finds the blue prints of the house and Hugo’s gun. Of course she is found out by Alcides and she tells him it was a request from Boris. As Boris and the Burkes are about finished with Hugo’s request Alcides comes in and neutralize all three of them. He asks them who their boss is and Gatita Burke tells him is the guy that lies now in Hugo’s grave (the guy that used to tend the cemetery). She said that he got tired of being poor and decided to jump to the other side and become and outlaw. He said he does not believe them and that they are going to die. He said he put dynamite around the house and they all are going to blow.

We see him light the dynamite and running away. Then he stops to se the explosion. Alcides goes to the court to have the Judge rule that he is the only heir of Hugo (man Alcides is all over the place); when none other than Boris appears to contest the claim.

We also see the niece dress as a nurse taking Soledad away. I don’t know where.
The widow tries to seduce Lucas without success. For now.
The woman that Alcides rape pretending to be Hugo was busted by her brother’s men.

This is in a nutshell what happened.

Thanks so much Sue. I missed a good episode. I'll try not to do that again. This thing moves so fast that one can't afford to fall behind.

Arturo's sister, the one who was in the mental hospital first, is Beatriz. I wonder what will happen to Soledad with Paquito and Eloisa. Maybe they will take her back to the hacienda, and she will find the secret passageways, where she and Hugo (and Enrico) can play hide and seek.

jb -- The character description in the beginning says that Dr. Max is performing his experiments in order to find out what killed his wife. I'm sure that at least her skeleton has to be in the armoire.
At some point someone will probably try to hide in there. That'll be a fun scene, rivally the one where Hugo comes alive in the grave and scares the wits out of Elena.

Thanks Kay and Sue! Just got in.

I thought it was funny enough to mention that Rebecca almost catches Paquito and Eloisa in bed. He hides under the bed, while Eloisa and Rebecca talk on the bed.

Alcides was instantly everywhere and slapping everyone around. When Marina got caught with the plans/gun, Alcides started to beat her and Ursula came to her rescue. I like that Ursula, she's got integrity and courage. Ursula and Marina seem to have a love/hate relationship. Do they both love Boris?

Alcides really beat Boris up, but he's like the Energy Bunny, he keeps on going (with a bullet wound too). He didn't have a single bruise or puff on his face when he showed up in court just after the beating and explosion.

Finally, since she's escaping, Soledad may be learning to not tell every single person she talks to that she's seen Hugo...

They don't have the english caption to this show where I live, so I'm really getting good practice on my spanish.

I also just started really tuning in to the show about 2 weeks ago.

I think that it is very interesting that this show takes place not in Mexico, but in Colombia. I can also see the different races represented, especially in Ursela who is Colombian, but like a african mestizo blend. I find it very interesting!

I'm not sure how Boris and Ursula feel about each other, but Marina is in love with Boris and has been jealous of Ursula since she came to work in Hugo's house before his "death" (having been kicked out of Soledad's house for helping her escape to see Hugo). But several times they have worked together.

I wish I had seen Paquito under the bed. LOL!!

I didn’t see the Paquito under the bed incident. I guess it happened when I was distracted. Does any body know why is he pretending to be gay? I agree with anonymous and every body that things that Soledad should shut up once and for all about Hugo and conduct her own private investigation. I hope she gets some brains soon. Soleda has been doing a lot of stupid stuff for a pregnant woman. She is always all over the place, back horse riding, running around inside an unsafe mine, and running around en el bosque(in the woods).

Sorry my comment got posted twice. I don't know how to remove it.

The fact that Paquito was hiding under the bed means that his relationship with Eloisa must be a secret from Rebeca (and everyone else). I don't know why it has to be a secret, but we will probably know sooner or later. Perhaps he acts gay so that no one suspects that they have anything going on between them. Or perhaps he thinks he can get more scoops as a reporter with that act. He is pretty funny. I'm enjoying what he is doing with this part. I have never seen him in a comic role. He made a good villain in Zorro. No gay act there!

I don't know how to erase a double post either. If you find out, let me know.

The only other time I've seen 'paquito' was in Zorro. He's very versatile, because in Zorro he played such a 'good' bad guy...
jb

I have had a busy weekend and just managed to see the Friday episode. Thank goodness Enrico saved Soledad from Dr. Max and his hypnosis. But how on earth did he manage to get a comatose Soledad to his house (wherever that is)? I have visions of him (little as he is) throwing her over his shoulder like a sack of flour. LOL! I wish he were able to reign her in, for the sake of her baby.
But the previews don't hold out much hope for that. If this child is carried to term it will be a miracle.

LOL Kay! I wondered the same thing about moving Soledad to Enrico's hideaway. He's very strong??

Pacquito adds some really funny touches throughout the episode. Did you notice how attentive he was to helping Soledad get dressed? He was having trouble concentrating as he buttoned her top. Maybe that's why he pretends, so he can get away with more...
jb

I think that's exactly why Paquito acts the way he does, so everyone thinks he's "harmless". Alcides thinks he's just a gossip. And now that Paquito got him out of jail he probably thinks he is on his side. Little does he know...
I wonder how Paquito will react when he finds out that Soledad has been napped from the nappers.

Kay I agree with you about soledad and carrying the baby to full term. Isn't she careless? and is acting like a pea brained.

You find funny enrico carrying Soledad. What about gatito Burke carrying Hugo? At least Soledad is petite, but there is nothing petite about Hugo.

Anonymous if you are into period novelas, Paquito was also in Amore Real. A mexican period piece by Carla Estrada. Very good novela. There are DVDs available.

Did the blog for La Traicion end with this recap for Episode 18?
