Pasion Friday Feb 1 - The help at the local store just got a lot better looking
I apologize in advance for a less detailed than usual recap, but I procrastinated and now I want to get downstairs and watch the Super Bowl, I’m recording it and it must already be halftime by now.
Jorge tells Marcelino to tell the Dariens that they have lost the rights to the mill and store, he wants to put the family in ruin.
Mario has Vasco tied to some machinery in the mill, he is torturing him to find out more about the ED card and Bernabe, etc. Vasco swears that Bernabe acted on his own. Ric arrives and asks questions, Vasco cries and says he’s sorry. Ric tells him to find Bernabe and say nothing to Camila about the card actually still existing. Ric and Mario leave and Jeremias sets Vasco free.
Mario makes some crack to Ric about him being whipped and Ric yells at him. Mario tells him he has changed and rides ahead. They arrive at a shack and find a servant, who tells them that the boss of the hacienda was killed. They found him in the road dead. He claims to know nothing about any cart. Mario and Ric know that he knows nothing because he has been TOLD to know nothing.
Back at Ric’s house Fran tells Lis that Ric left early, who knows where. Lis wants to invite Camila to the house for dinner. Fran is up in arms with Lis these days.
Some peasants walk down the street with a body to bury, must be the boss that was killed. Ric and crew stop to let them pass. Ric makes the sign of the cross, the other pirates just watch.
Ric and crew arrive at a busy plantation/hacienda or something, the boss knows nothing, nobody is allowed to sell things without his permission and nothing of the sort happened. That’s his story. Ric realizes that nobody is going to say anything. They cross back where the burial is taking place, Ric stops to talk to the widow. She says her husband was delivered to her dead by some servants of Alberto. She doesn’t know how he was killed.
Camila and Jimena leave home to go work at the store. Camila still looks way hotter with her natural hair. We see Fortunata in the square getting some gossip.
Ursula talks to
Fran and Lis show up at Camila’s house and find out that Camila is working at her father’s store. The servant tells them that Justo is dying. I guess Cleo wasn’t the only chismosa working there.
Mario says that they need to hold Alberto down, start cutting him up, bit by bit, until he tells where Ric’s money is. Ric says “Cierto.” Mario is VERY pleased with this answer, as opposed to Ric’s usual “well uh let me check with Camila first.”
Fran and Lis have lunch outside, Lis comes up with another fantastical situation that can bring her and Ric together. Something about him getting married with the wrong name, and if she makes friends with Camila Ric will see how nice she is. Something like that. Lis wants to go to Ofelia’s to check up on Justo. Just then
Out at the table, Fortunata is horking down a tableful of food. Fortunata talks about the upcoming weddings and GRita of course has to make some crack about Camila, which gets a dirt look from Ofelia. THEN –
Ric and crew arrive home, Manuela is there looking for Lis. She looks uncomfortable talking to Ric as he pries information from her about Alberto, not getting much more than that he is on a trip. A servant tells them that Lis isn’t home, so Manuela beats a hasty retreat. Ric, for some reason, acts creepy and won’t let her leave for a few seconds, then gets out of her way. I guess he wants any reports back to Alberto to be that he seems dangerous.
Fran and Lis leave,
Lis and Fran run into Manuela on the street, Manuela delivers news that Ric is home and delivers a letter to Lis from Alberto. Lis demands that Fran read her the card right away, yes here in the middle of the street. We see Alberto writing the letter as it is read, rather than Fran’s voice. It is like a teenage love note, “I’m going on a trip, but I wanted to say goodbye to you first, I’ll miss you and hope to see you when I get back.” He laughs as he writes it, I’m not sure if he thinks it is funny or if he’s embarrassed to be writing such sappy crap. He finishes by saying he wants to get to know her better. Lis of course says “no I won’t marry anyone but Ric!” Fran rolls her eyes again and Lis spins some more fantasies about how she and Ric will end up together. Fran tells her to get with Alberto since he is powerful and can help them. Fran calls Lis stupid and they go home.
Ric and Mario try to figure out where La Font might have gone. They figure that Foreman has purchased gold that has been stolen from the caravans. They want to figure out how to see what’s up with the whole thing and prove it to clear Ric’s name. Ric asks Mario if he is with him, Mario says he has to think about it. Then he smiles and says of course, to the death. Lis and Fran see Mario in the hall, he says Ric is in the room. Fran and Lis agree that they hate Mario. Lis talks to Ric, Ric says Camila probably won’t come to dinner with all that happened to Justo. She wants to know where Ric went, Ric finally tells her the truth about his money getting stolen. Does Camila know? Yes. And she doesn’t care? She cares, but it doesn’t change their relationship. Ric turns the tables and asks if Manuela gave Lis the card she had for her, Lis says “what? Oh uh yeah she gave it to me, whatever.” Ric asks if La Font is after her, she says no. Ric knows better.
Ofelia brings
Jorge enters the store and sees Jimena up on a ladder with a lot of leg exposed. He checks her out (I agree with him here, nice leg) and she finally notices him. He wants to know where Camila is, she’s in the back with Ascanio doing some work. We see her in the back room trying to explain some stuff to Ascanio. Jorge enters and is surprised that Ascanio knows how to read and write, how nice. Jorge wants to talk to Camila, Ascanio leaves and Jorge tells her that she sure has a lot of guys looking out for her! Yes, she looks way better with her regular hair. Now I remember why she was hottie lawyer on Duelo and not ‘bad wig’ lawyer. Much better. Jorge wants to talk to her about Justo.
Outside, Ascanio and Jimena fret about Jorge and Camila being left alone, but there was nothing Ascanio could have done.
Jorge says he has unfinished business with Vasco about Ursula and Justo is old. He also has a lot of doubts about Ricardo and Ric refuses to show him proper deference and respect. Jorge says Ric claims to be a businessman, but he thinks he must be a thief or pirate. Camila angrily denies it but Jorge tells her to shut up. He says that Justo isn’t going to work out for him any more, he’s giving the business to someone else. Camila is upset of course, Jorge says it’s just business. She says it’s because of the earthquake, not poor business. Jorge doesn’t care. But…. He might be convinced differently if he gets the proper attention….

For once, Ursula was almost believable when she told her mother how miserable she is. Any bets on whether it was for real or not, anyone?
“The servant tells them that Justo is dying. I guess Cleo wasn’t the only chismosa working there.” LOL. Exactly my thoughts when I heard it.
“” Mario is VERY pleased with this answer, as opposed to Ric’s usual “well uh let me check with Camila first.”” LOL! I love the way you translate stuff, Ferro!
“GRita offers Fortunata a snack, Fortunata says sure and orders enough food for a meal. GRita looks at her like “damn, how much do you eat for a MEAL?”” ROTFL! It’s obvious, no need to even ask.
Jorge is a super sleaze. I hope Ric gets his way with Jorge. (Matandolo or something equally feo).

It's great to get a male perspective on things that go on with this story!
And I agree with cpt. jenny cash, Whore-hey and Rooster-hair have got to go!!! The sooner the better!
I know it sounds mean, but I wasn't sorry to see Vasco get thumped a bit for his part in the letter fiasco. Maybe he'd behave himself better if he was occasionally pummeled instead of just scolded then forgiven.
About Ursula, my first thought when Sofia was told about Justo was that now Sofia will NOT be taking Ursula to the capital as she'd rather hang out and worry about Justo. Ursula will blame Justo's family for spoiling her trip and will be out to get them with renewed vigor.
GRita...Gah!!
Great recap Ferro! Hope you enjoyed the game.
Awesome recap as always.
Margaret: In response to your question about end of Thursday/beginning of Friday discussion between GRita and Jimena regarding Santi chasing Camila (or vice versa as GRita originally said), Jimena finished with "and it's understandable." I did a little snap on my couch to Jimena's awesome candor. Would you blame Santi for wanting to cheat on someone who's so difficult? Ok, yes, one shouldn't cheat but one is allowed to think about it if they're miserable and their spouse is suspicious of anyone you say "hello" to.
Mario does pose an interesting question to Ric: If he gets cleared for the murder and pardoned for the piracy and chooses to become a rich merchant in SF (or wherever), what happens to all those guys who will not get pardons? La Paisana has mentioned that many pirates are now holding up caravans 'cause there simply isn't money to be made at sea. What are the chances that these former pirates can relocate and start jobs when their only training is robbery? I think this is what Mario is currently holding against Ric, though frankly they could keep doing what they're doing if he were to become captain, they just wouldn't do it as well, especially if he gets Foreman pissed at them for exposing Jorge & Co.
Just some pondering for the next one ;)
And as for Mario, he has some deep dark secret, and I don't think it just has to do with getting a job and making money. Anyway, Ric has expressed the idea that no matter what, he will take care of his men by giving them money. Of course, he doesn't have any to give away now, but, that tide should turn.
I also keep getting the idea that he's going to plant a mole in either LaFont's or Jorge's house, like Lisabeta. What do you think of that?

This show sizzles even when Ricardo Frightenes me. When Mario was 'interogating' Vasco. Vasco is relieved to see Ricardo arrive. But Ricardo winds up demanding to know where's the letter. I was afraid Ricardo was going to have Vasco's nose sliced open. And later he tells Mario well he's probably a good person, besides, Camilla loves him. Wha.aah. I had forgotten Antillano is still in the mix.
And the hand signals or sign language is SUCH A TURN ON. %-)
I don't think Jimena "just noticed" Jorge. I think she put that leg on display specially for him, seeing as how she spent the rest of that scene striking poses for him! While I don't think she has any intention of betraying Camila right now, it's possible that things could change later, perhaps as a result of one of those misunderstandings that can happen only in a telenovela.
Funnily enough, the scene between Sofia and Justo made me LESS sure that they ever had a thing. It sounded more like a bittersweet "it's too bad we couldn't be together, but at least we could be bestest friends."
Whenever I see Jorge now, I laugh at how pitiful he is, trying everything he can just to have sex with Camila, and still can't make it happen. Camila is his white whale. After all this buildup, if he did ever get her alone, he would probably fail to perform yet again.
Thank you!
Julie – “join the service/circus” LOL! Jimena is playing with fire if she messes with Jorge. Mario has a thing for her and I wouldn’t want to cross Mario.

A few weeks ago I said that Santi only ever wore the green scarf at the forge, never at home. I guess I was wrong about that. gRita must not know where that scarf came from - otherwise I'm sure she would tear it into pieces and bury it under a tree. (Preferably a different tree than the letter from Camila, otherwise who knows what would sprout from those mingled shreds!)
And Julie, I thought you were referring to another service, the service industry. I previously thought about both her and Vasco working at the bordello where they'd find true fulfillment I think.
My guess is that the Señores like Gonzalo and Mateo have accounts, and are late with payments because after all Justo is a mere tradesman and can't do much about the Señores anyway, because they are Jorge's BFFs. So, the cycle goes like this: the Señores owe, know they don't have to exercise themselves about paying on time, Justo doesn't get paid, he doesn't pay his taxes because he has nothing to pay them with, and the earthquake made it all worse.
Yes, the concessions were "owned" by the lords and the lords then also collected taxes off the so-called profits. Nice deal, huh?
Jeanne
LOL on the exposed leg scene! I guess looking at half exposed breasts has become mundane.
The talk around town is that the folks aren't too fond of Jorge, so it may be easy for Ric to find a mole. I think he'll plan a robbery once he figures out where the treasure is...

I think Jorge wants to ruin the family because Camila won't give him what he wants and Vasco has been having fun with Ursula ... and is going to marry Ines. And it looks like Justo and Sofia have been close, affectionate, but haven't been lovers. I think she's respected her marriage vows, as did he, even in the face of Jorge's flagrant infidelities.
Loved the return of Antillano! Maybe he - or Don Gaspar - can get a blanket pardon for all his crew and they can find some kind of "honest" work.
And how long is Santiago's green scarf going to last? he wears it pretty much non-stop, working at the forge, and it's been more than FOUR YEARS! Even if it hasn't been washed - ew! - it has to wear out. Or maybe just rot off his neck.

Or maybe she was sort of a spoiled brat then, and Justo taught her how to be a human being. Sort of like how Santiago seems to bring out a temporary glimmer of humanity in Lis.
Now I'm intrigued too!
About the Rico and Manuela conversation, I didn't think he was trying to scare her, but was subtly trying to get information from her on Alberto's whereabouts. If I remember correctly, Manuela and Rico were discussing Alberto's trips, and Manuela was asking Rico questions about Spain and how far away it was.

I think Justo & Sofia have an unfulfilled love for each other. Sofia was telling Ursula she'd always liked the common people better than the uppity nobility (perhaps because she has common sense). I'd like more back story on their relationship and how it developed.
I liked Mario keeping Ric in suspense for a moment about whether he was with him or not. Just to remind Ric that Mario's a valuable guy.
La Paloma
I could see Ursula joining the service. As a camp follower.
