La Traición, Tue. 3/11 - Ester opens her big mouth again

We open with Soledad waking up and seeing Hugo in her bedroom. Fortunately for Hugo, Soledad believes it is a dream. She wants to take full advantage of her dream and have Hugo kiss her. Hugo resists at first but then succumbs and they kiss passionately. Once again, the opportunity to exchange important information is lost, however, when Hugo shushes Soledad's attempt to tell him something. When Soledad tells Hugo that he is her one and only love, Hugo says no, he isn't but there is no opportunity to clarify this since Hugo makes Soledad go back to sleep.

Back at the wagon with Boris & Marina, Hugo again questions his conclusion that Soledad betrayed him and Marina strongly supports Soledad's case. Back inside, however, Soledad wakes up looking for Hugo but immediately has cramping. Ursula is sent for the doctor. Fortunately, Dr. Max is right in the neighborhood on the way to the cemetery with Los Burques.

Hugo sneaks back into the house to find out what is going on and hears Ester tell Dr. Max that the baby is Alcides'. When Dr. Max suggests that it would be too soon for Soledad to know she was preggers after marrying Alcides, Ester tells him that Soledad and Alcides had a secret affair prior to her engagement to Hugo. Whatever, says Dr. Max. Hugo replays in his mind all the things that would support this conclusion, what Alcides said in the mine, seeing Soledad kissing Alcides in the cabana and what he overheard at his wake, Hugo once again concludes that Soledad has betrayed him with Alcides.

Unexplained is Hugo's knowledge of Soledad's pregnancy in the mine. I think we have to conclude that that because of his physical condition and the terrible danger to Soledad, Hugo was on psychic autopilot and he doesn't remember what happened before the explosion. We know that he remembers what happened with Alcides after the explosion.

Anyway, Dr. Max reports that Soledad's pregnancy is in a delicate condition and she is confined to bed rest for the rest of her pregnancy. No more running around like a nut jog falling over cliffs, getting caught in collapsing mines, getting caught in house fires, getting chloroformed, etc. etc. Soledad tells Dr. Max that she believes Hugo was actually there with her and that plus the fact that Los Burques report the presence of Boris and Marina outside the house makes Dr. Max more convinced that Hugo is still alive.

Arturo has some plan to get out of prison.

Boris confesses to Marina that he is not sure if he loves her.

At the river, Hugo mourns his brother in spite of their differences.

The various grave robbers converge on the cemetery and it is luckless Burques that get caught by the guards Boris hired. On the road, team Hugo meets the guards taking Los Burques to the police station. Since Boris hired the guards, it would seem like he could have told them to let Guillermo and Helena go but he doesn't. Hugo comes out of hiding and says that he has to save them because they saved his life. Setting up another situation where he is acting without Boris to protect him, Hugo sends Boris and Marina to spring Los Burques while he goes ahead alone and arranges to meet Boris and Marina later at a hotel.

Rebeca and Eloisa go in search of Hercules. They find him recovering from the blow on the head and are elated to finally get the books. Rebeca and Hercules are getting hot and heavy when Eloisa interrupts to report the missing pages in the book. Rebeca initially accuses Hercules of holding them out on her but Hercules denies it and they all finally conclude that somehow Enrico got them. In his lair, Enrico has the missing pages but he can't decipher the code.

Beatriz and Fabio are down on their luck. Fabio returns from the taverna having gambled away all their money. Beatriz suggests that she can work in a hospital as nurse but Fabio rejects that idea as putting her in danger of being recognized. He has some other plan.

Finally, at the Obregon house, Lucas brings breakfast to Ester out in the garden in an attempt to inject more romance into their marriage. Some masked guys show up, beat up Lucas and kidnap Ester. Who did this? We don't know. Is this Arturo's plan? It's hard to see how kidnapping Ester would get Arturo out of jail but who knows.

Horror of horrors, the scenes from tomorrow show Beatriz smooching with Hugo on the rebound. If this plays out in normal novela fashion, Beatriz will make Hugo think they have had sex, she will be pregnant with Fabio's baby and will tell Hugo that it is his and Beatriz and Soledad will have their babies at exactly the same time and the babies will be switched or Beatriz' baby will be stillborn and she'll steal Soledad's baby. I hope I'm wrong.

How do we know it isn't Alcides who is kissing Beatriz? I don't know how much time has passed at this point, but the guy kissing her had no gash over his eye. Maybe it's Alcides coming back and pretending to be Hugo.

Hi Kay: Good question but, just in from the Telemundo website, the teaser for tonight's episode:

La mentira de que Soledad se veia con Alcides antes de casarse dejó a Hugo destrozado y vulnerable, por lo que Beatríz se aprovecha de la situación para seducirlo. Hugo está a punto de caer y olvidarse de Soledad de una buena vez.

The lie that Soledad had a relationship with Alcides before her marriage has left Hugo destroyed and vulnerable. Beatriz takes advantage of the situation to seduce him. Hugo is on the point of falling for her and forgetting Soledad.

What happened to Hugo's plan to get out of town? He certainly is taking his sweet time about doing it, leaving poor Boris and Marina standing around waiting for him.

I just watched part of last night's episdode again with the English subtitles. I was wrong about what happned on the road. Hugo sent Boris & Marina back (on foot apparently) to spring Los Burques while he went ahead to the 'southern villages' where nobody knows him (except Beatriz).

Thanks Jean!

Yes, Hugo was dragging his feet about leaving town. It's great when they're together. They're oozing chemistry - makes the show more fun. It seems unnatural for him not to trust his feelings for Soledad. At least he should be asking a few questions. He's got all these 'powers' and wouldn't I like to be able to put people to sleep like he did...

I forgot to ask:

Why did Dr. Max and Hugo have a falling out? They were working together last I knew. I must've missed something last week. Did Dr. Max want to perform experiments on Hugo or something crazy???

I'm not sorry to see Ester go. Some time without her would be nice. I hope Hugo doesn't hear about her kidnapping. He'd probably come back to rescue her too.

I wouldn't say that Hugo and Dr. Max have had a falling out. For whatever reason, Hugo didn't want the rest of team Hugo to know that he survived the mine cave in.

Max definitely has a hidden agenda with regard to Hugo. He wants to use Hugo, dead or alive, to find a cure the disease that killed his wife. Now Dr. Max is suspicious that Hugo is still alive and he wants to find him.

Hugo had no choice but to use Dr. Max after Los Burques dug him up but I don't think he really trusts Dr. Max (and he shouldn't).

Hello Jean,

Muy Gracias for the recap!!

I'm about a week behind ( I started taping this show after you started commenting on it).

AnyWho - Tell me again, why was Soledad forced to marry Alcides? I thought it was for money but if he has money why is he after Hugo's? Who is the guy kidnapping Beatriz and why?

Any help with any of the above questions is much appreciated,

Thanks,
Rhonda in Texas

Hi Rhonda: A week is long time in this fast-moving novela.

Let me see if I can help you out.

Ester was originally pro Alcides and anti Hugo for Soledad to marry. Hugo had money and Alcides didn't but Ester didn't care because she didn't know about Lucas' money problems then.

After Hugo was acquitted of raping Beatriz, Ester suddenly dropped her opposition to Soledad getting engaged to Hugo. Ester told Manrique, the money lender, that Lucas would use Hugo's money to pay his debt but she never asked Hugo or told Soledad.

After Hugo's supposed death, Soledad found out that she was pregnant and she also found out about the dire financial situation of her family. She, Ester and Alcides essentially did a business transaction where Alcides agreed to pay Lucas' debt, Soledad agreed to marry Alcides but in appearance only and she was also forced to agree to say that her baby was Alcides'.

Alcides had to wait for a judge to name him as the heir to Hugo's fortune. Manrique didn't want to wait to be paid. Alcides sold Hugo's townhouse to Arturo and used the money to pay Manrique. He was supposed to use some of his inheritance to repay Arturo. However, Hugo suceeded in preventing Alcides from getting his hands on any of inheritance with the result that neither Arturo or Alcides have any money right now.

Beatriz wasn't kidnapped. She got out of the sanatorium and hired Fabio to kill Alcides. It didn't work out and Arturo wanted to put her back in the nuthouse. So Beatriz ran away with Fabio.

One of Arturo's other men, Raimundo, found out where Beatriz and Fabio were hiding and tied them up with the intention of getting money from both Alcides and Arturo for them. Boris and Marina rescued them, Raimundo was killed and then Beatriz and Fabio knocked Marina out and ran off together again.

Clear? ;-)
