La Traición, March 7 - It's all happening at the Hacienda Montenegro

Boris identifies the brother he and Marina found along the river as Hugo. Boris tells him that Soledad is safe and that Alcides is missing and presumed dead. Hugo whispers something to Boris, which probably was telling him not to let anyone else know know that he has survived. A totally unconvincing Boris tells Los Burques and Dr. Max that he's giving up the search and returning to the city since Hugo is certainly dead. Dr. Max is very suspicious but Boris takes off in the wagon with poor Hugo bouncing around the back under a blanket yet again. Soon, however, Hugo is having a catalepsy attack. Boris and Marina meet Ester and Soledad and Boris manages to make Soledad suspicious as well.

In a great scene, Ursula makes Rebeca trip and fall and warns her against home wrecking at the Obregon's. Ursula also chews out Lucas who immediately takes to drink in order to face Ester.

Enrico ends up with a few pages of the treasure-map book.

Boris takes Hugo to the Hacienda Montenegro and leaves him with Marina to go fetch the thermal coffin thingy from Dr. Max. Marina is nervous about being left alone and with good reason. In short order, Arturo and his henchmen show up looking for Alcides' money; Soledad and Ursula arrive looking for Boris and Los Burques come to what they believe will be an emply house looking to steal something.

Marina somehow manages to get Hugo under the bed when Arturo and Soledad come into his room. However, when Arturo threatens Soledad and a lamp is broken starting a smoky fire, Hugo gets the psychic call, wakes up and manages to get Soledad out of the burning house without her seeing her rescuer. Boris and Los Burques take care of Ursula and Marina. Ester and Lucas, in a ridiculous-looking hat, show up to collect Soledad and Ursula. Boris convinces Inspector Duarte that he has some reason to be at the house and Arturo and his henchmen are arrested. Hugo says that helping Soledad makes him feel much better.

The only other thing that happened is that Paquito has convinced the judge that there are sufficient irregularities with Hugo's death to open his grave. On Monday's episode, we see the now reduced Team Hugo of Boris, Marina and Hugo watching this from hiding.

There has been a lot of speculation on Telenovela World about whether this is really Hugo or Alcides pretending to be Hugo. For the reasons that I stated in my post yesterday, I am convinced that this is Hugo. We now have the situation where Soledad believes that Hugo is dead and that Alcides tried to kill her. If Hugo pretends to be Alcides, he will have to try and win Soledad back against her new prejudices against Alcides and her love for her dead fiancé.

On Telenovela world, there was also a posting about a Peruvian actor, Ismael de la Rosa, who just signed on to LT as a rival love interest for Soledad. We already know that Eloisa is going to go after Hugo/Alcides.

However, I am sure Alcides will be back eventually.

I also have no clue how Hugo found out that Soledad was pregnant (and I don't think he said to save "their" baby, he just kept telling her to save "her" baby, so I don't think Soledad had a chance to say it was his). It might have been an editing thing and there's a scene that got cut where Alcides said something to Hugo. I gotta say, I'm a little pissed at Hugo for still thinking that Soledad betrayed him. Yes, Alcides tried to twist her words when she said she'd go with Alcides and do whatever he wanted if he just let Hugo go, but the girl was willing to die with him: "now that I found you I can't loose you again." If that's not love I don't know what is! Yes, her mom might have been after Hugo's money, but that doesn't mean Soledad was. As far as the baby, if he just took the time to ask a woman (Marina in this case) or a Dr. (not that he's speaking to Max at the moment) he would know that if the baby was Alcides', it would be way too soon to tell she was pregnant just yet. Back before the days of home pregnancy tests, you had to wait until you missed a period to even suspect, and even then you're still looking at a few weeks, plus the time to wait in case it was just late, more than a month would have gone by. That's my soapbox moment for the day ;) I too was unsure about whether it was Hugo or Alcides (had forgotten the synopsis in the website) but figured it must be Hugo when he helped Soledad escape because Alcides never knew about the tunnels and Hugo did.

Regarding Miguel's decomposing: He was buried in Hugo's grave the same night that Hugo got buried (Hugo only spent a few hours underground before he was dug up), so he would be in about the same state of decomposition Hugo would be, regardless of how far along he was. Alcides didn't turn him over to see his face, and it was too dark to pay attention to the clothes. That's how they fooled him. I don't think it was the judge's ring that made Alcides think Hugo was alive. Rather, it's the fact that he went back to the cemetery and found Hugo's grave covered back up. He remembered leaving it open when he woke up, and was concerned that people would realize Hugo had been buried alive. He was preparing to say he knew nothing about the catalepsy (which technically he didn't know until right before he buried Hugo) but once he got there and saw someone cleaned up after him, he knew something was up. The staff (maybe groundskeepers?) told him there had been gunshot noises (he remembered those), but that they saw nothing. He got his last proof when he saw Hugo in his vagabond outfit walking down the street, and that's how he was able to replicate the outfit to fool Soledad.

Re: Soledad's and Enrico's respective psychic connections. I don't know that they are supposed to be infallible. Soledad has been fooled by Alcides at least twice. It takes her a minute or two to realize she's kissing the wrong guy (guess that's in the DNA too) and Hugo was pretty far when he was looking for her, so the clothes were enough to throw her. Enrico knew they were getting too close and probably sensed that Hugo could sense Soledad and that's why he decided to run. That's my take on it, but I agree it was a little nebulous and seemed to just be there so Soledad could dangle from the tree. I do agree that if it wasn't for what Enrico said (and Soledad's dreams) I would seriously doubt Soledad would carry to term. Speaking of psychic connections, Hugo seems to have the bulk of them. Not only can he sense Soledad, but he can call for Boris and tap into his own pain to share it with his twin. He's like one of the X-Men ;)

I am willing to cut Lucas a little slack on the Rebeca business. He a) was willing to stop at a kiss, b)has been trying to keep her away, c) admits that it's flattering to an old man like himself to have gorgeous younger woman throwing himself at him and d) is married to a ragging female canine (nicer than the other term). Yes, he shouldn't have let her kiss him at all, but he's not a creep, just spineless (something probably aggravated by having such a domineering wife). On a separate note, I was quite touched when Ester told Soledad that it was all her fault, she never should have forced her to marry a man she didn't love. She figures the Soledad's love for Hugo and rejection of Alcides is what drove the man crazy.

I too suspect Alcides will come back, just not sure when or how. He was injured, but he wasn't suffocating like Hugo. He probably will wash off somewhere and survive on his own - adding to his idea that nobody loves him!

Did anyone else think Enrico found those pages way too quickly? One minute he's wrestling for the books, and the next he's running out with all the pages he needs. Also, did anyone notice that Ester only had two books instead of three? Just a thought ;) I am curious to see what the treasure contains, and whether he will share it with Soledad. Maybe he'll even help her get her memories back!

Thanks Jean, and all comments for helping with this storyline! I've been out of touch for a week and it's been rough not getting my fix.

There's so much action--it's a fun story, but a little confusing with twins and some gaps in the editing. Looking forward to getting back on schedule...

Thanks Jean for the recapp. I love this show!! I can't get the english captions and have to rely on my very poor spanish! Your recaps help me get the story straight.

This one is way more exciting than Passion.

Thanks,

I agree. That is the one thing that I think was some editing goof up because it would have been an important moment when Hugo learned that Soledad was preggers.

>... I gotta say, I'm a little pissed at Hugo for still thinking that Soledad betrayed him (snip)..

I know. It doesn't make sense that after what Soledad said and did in the mine, Hugo could have any doubts about her love for him. But if Hugo knows that Soledad didn't betray him, we've got no story for the next couple of months. It will be interesting to see how it plays out.

>Regarding Miguel's decomposing: He was buried in Hugo's grave the same night that Hugo got buried (Hugo only spent a few hours underground before he was dug up), so he would be in about the same state of decomposition Hugo would be, (snip)

What I meant was that there hadn't been enough time for a body to have decomposed enough for Alcides to mistake Miguel for Hugo. At the time I didn't know that Los Burque had put Hugo's clothes on Miguel and turned him over.

I went back and watched it again. Alcides became convinced that Hugo was alive after his encounter with Hercules. There were 2 circumstances: 1) Hercules claimed to have had a conversation with Alcides or someone who looked like Alcides and was with Boris: 2) Hercules bought the judge's ring from Los Burque. With his knowledge of the low life of the town (remember that Alcides had informtion to blackmail the judge), Alcides would know about the grave-robbing activites of Los Burque. If they dug the judge up, they must have dug Hugo up.
Alcides added it up and concluded that Hugo was alive had been trying to drive him crazy and then he saw him on the street.

>Re: Soledad's and Enrico's respective psychic connections... That's my take on it, but I agree it was a little nebulous and seemed to just be there so Soledad could dangle from the tree.(snip)

Of course, if the psychic connections worked all the time, all the problems in the plot would be resolved. It's just fun to point out where it conveniently does not work.

>I do agree that if it wasn't for what Enrico said (and Soledad's dreams) I would seriously doubt Soledad would carry to term.

That's one tough fetus!

>Speaking of psychic connections, Hugo seems to have the bulk of them. Not only can he sense Soledad, but he can call for Boris and tap into his own pain to share it with his twin. He's like one of the X-Men ;)Snip..

Yes, and since had had that ability, why didn't he incapacitate Alcides before he headed out of the mine with Soledad? Hugo and Soledad could have escaped together. But I don't expect logic in novelas and I'm not complaining. The scenes in the mine were the most powerful I've ever seen in a novela.

We would say that Lucas is pu**y whipped. Why isn't he at least trying to earn some money for his family instead of sitting home playing chess and plunking the piano?

>On a separate note, I was quite touched when Ester told Soledad that it was all her fault, she never should have forced her to marry a man she didn't love. She figures the Soledad's love for Hugo and rejection of Alcides is what drove the man crazy.

Now Ester has a crisis of conscience after all the damage has been done!

>I too suspect Alcides will come back, just not sure when or how. He was injured, but he wasn't suffocating like Hugo. He probably will wash off somewhere and survive on his own - adding to his idea that nobody loves him!

I agree. He'll come back with an even bigger chip on his shoulder and not profit at all from Hugo's advice to just suck up his bad childhood. Remember that Alcides is allergic to Paquito or Paquito's personal care products. I'm sure that will figure in the story at some point.

>Did anyone else think Enrico found those pages way too quickly? One minute he's wrestling for the books, and the next he's running out with all the pages he needs. It remains to be seen whether Enrico has all he needs to find the treasure or just some pages of the book to see if they are marked. Yes, I saw that Ester only had two books at one point. The other one is probably in her bag with Eloisa's shoe! ;-)

Hi Rhonda: If you have any questions, 'Confia en mi,' as Hugo says to Soledad. I am totally obsessed with this novela. I gave up on Pasion long ago.
Eagerly awaiting tonight's episode.

Jean, I'm so glad you're possessed, as I am too! I'm trying to catching up, but we had a power outage and my recorder didn't get everything. Fortunately, I did get the mine action! With your help and the other commentary, I think I've pieced together last weeks action. This novela has been such fun, thanks again for bringing it to us...

I've had a busy weekend, so I'm just now caught up with Friday's episode. I also took a look at the TW conversations. The one about whether it was Alcides rather than Hugo that Boris and Marina found was pretty amusing. I even went back to review the scenes in the mine and river to see if I had missed something -- the cross, rings, vest, hair style, gash over the eye -- seems like anything and everything might be a clue in this one. I like the way someone summed it up by saying "I guess we're waiting for a limp or a sneeze." LOL

I'm sure Alcides will be back sooner or later. As he would say,
"con el tiempo y un ganchito."
