Pasión 03/12/08: In Pursuit of the Lawsuit

(Filling in for Julie's Wednesday Recap.--ed.)
Late in the evening Vasco tries to sneak into bed after a long day (and one heck of a late night before) at the mill. Ines is sobbing. He reaches over to cuddle with her but she’s not having any of it. He realizes she knows what’s what. “Who told you, my father?” “—No. Your son.” He tries giving her the old-as-the-hills bit about swearing that “she (Ursula) means nothing” to him. Ines asks then why is he doing it if she means nothing to him. He answers that he doesn’t know; but Ines is not buying what he’s selling. “Yes, you do know! It means that you don’t think I’m woman enough for you!” He says not at all, he does love her, really he does….. Ines asks him then why does he go after Ursula like that and he lamely says she started it back up, all of a sudden. Ines spits back, “—and you couldn’t keep your fly shut!!”

Vasco wants her to listen, to try to understand, but Ines screams back in pain that he should be the one trying to understand her, and what she is feeling. He wants forgiveness, but Ines hasn’t got any to give. “Don’t make me promises because you are not going to keep them. You continue with your life and I’ll continue on with mine.” “—But we’re man and wife!” “—You don’t respect me as a wife. You go off with any whore. What if I would go off with another man?” “—Don’t say that because I’ll get mad!” he says all macho man. She screams back, “I am already mad!! I’m hurt now, very hurt! Despite all your defects, I loved you since I can remember, but you know what, Vasco? The time has come that that love is finished with.”

Vasco begs Ines not to say this and tries to grab hold of her. “Don’t touch me!” (This is the second most famous telenovela phrase all telenovela novices must learn, the first being “Let go of me,” and the third being, “I’m pregnant.”) He says they should talk it over but Ines pretty much says talk to the pillow cuz the face ain’t listenin’. He rolls over to his side of the bed then, thinking of how he’s going to get his [fly] out of the wringer this time.
=======

Across town at the palace, Jorge is playing the harpsichord when LaFont comes in wondering why he was sent for if Jorge has cancelled the meeting with the posse. Jorge says he wants to know the low-down on this mess with Lis, Ric and the inheritance. Bouffy says he’s not sure if Lis is lying or not, but he’s convinced she’s afraid of Ric because he is El Antillano. Jorge asks if she told him that. Bouffy says no, but he is certain that he is and Jorge is all ears.

At the hacienda, Ric and Cami eat in their room after having made love. He’s sure everything will turn out fine. Cami insists he come out personally to keep her informed and he agrees. She wonders if he knows where to find the extra money to pay the remainder of the inheritance back to Lis. Ric says yes, but if he doesn't get the money then he'll ask Foreman. Cami wonders if that won’t compromise him somehow. All that matters to Ric is that she doesn't set one foot in jail. He confesses his love to her and seals it with a kiss. He promises her that if she does what he tells her then everything will come out ok. (Who’re we kidding here? Cami is totally ADDS challenged when it comes to following directions. We know this. Ric knows this. I hope he has a Plan B and a Plan C ready, ‘cuz sure as shootin’ he’s gonna need it with this dim dame!) She nods her agreement.

Upstairs at the palace Fran and Lis come to Sofia’s room to explain their reason for leaving to move in at Alberto’s the next day. Sofia isn’t comfy with the improper move, even if it is, as Fran explains, into the house of the man Lis has agreed to marry. Sofia says this isn’t usually even considered until after a formal marriage agreement has been signed. She wonders if there isn’t some other reason for their moving in with him and his daughter, like possibly some offense of Ursula’s. Fran says none.

Sofia still suspects something else. She mentions that she overheard the two talking about some other man that Lis was interested in and actually preferred. She advises Lis that if she’s marrying LaFont on the rebound, in order to forget another man, she is making a mistake because “he is no angel of the Lord’s.” Lis insists with crocodile tears running down her cheeks that it is because Cami has left her poverty-stricken and out on the streets, and well, LaFont has been such a gentleman and so supportive. Sofia’s answer is, "Well, it's your decision.”

Downstairs Bouffy and Jorge continue discussing the matter of the inheritance. Al says Lis has a right to the money even though Jorge suggests there’s no need to sue for it since Ric has offered to give it back and settle the matter privately. LaFont says that kind of arrangement isn’t suitable and his way, by impugning the will, has legal standing. Besides Lis’ wanting to do it this way, she wants to prove the marriage was invalid by using the ED letter and stating that her father was unable to consummate it. By invalidating the marriage, she invalidates the will automatically. Cami goes back into servitude and Ric will pay for her freedom as he sees it. Ric, he says, will take off for the sea a while, rob a ship or two and have enough money to buy Cami’s freedom and to pay the difference for what’s already been spent of the inheritance and all will be done according to law.

Jorge isn't very convinced about impugning the will and taking away legally Cami's inheritance. He doesn’t like the idea that she will have to spend the time in jail while Ric gets the money. He suspects LaFont is getting him involved in a messy business and that Ric will bring a horde of his pirates to attack Jorge’s lands and San Fernando to get his wife out of jail. Bouffy sneers that Ric ain’t no Foreman, able to summons the whole lot of them at will. All they have to do is send reinforcements to the neighboring towns, including even Vera Cruz, and that should handle it.

Jorge though is worried what the townspeople will think since the Dariens are from there. Bouffy says let them think what they will: that Cami married an old man for his money and stripped a poor blind girl of her rightful inheritance. “By the way, tomorrow Lis and her aunt are moving to my place.” Jorge smiles conspiratorially.

In another part of town Santi gets ready for bed in Ines’ old room. Ofelia comes in and says that the idea of two bedrooms doesn’t appeal to GRita. Santi doesn’t care. She asks what Jorge came by to discuss. She mentions there may be a reason to reconcile if he is tempted by the idea of being able to help the people with their needs. He says that everyone has been suggesting the same thing. The problem is he is just too bitter over the tragic things Jorge’s actions have caused in his life. Ofelia mentions Sofia’s visit and the offer for her and Jorge to be godparents. Santi says he is not going to allow it.

Ofelia leaves Santi alone and he begins to think to himself that maybe Ascanio was right to tell him that his bitterness toward Jorge was poisoning him; but unlike Christ, he cannot forgive those who martyred him.
==========

It is sunrise in San Fernando again and Ric sends Cami and Jimena off in the coach with his men to take refuge on La Salamandra. She’s worried about her father and what will happen to his health when he finds out the news and why she’s gone. Ric says he’ll miss her and he promises to see Justo in a bit and let him know the score. He tells Jime not to let themselves do anything rash and he tells El Guero to protect the women at all cost and to let him know as soon as they make it there. El Guero promises the men will protect the women with their lives. --As the bard once wrote, “…parting is such sweet sorrow,” and we all sob as Ric and Cami say farewell for who knows how long.

Back at the palace Sofia catches Ursula in her lie about seeing Mannie and accuses her of hooking up with a farm worker. “You see a man and you get hot to trot,” she tells her daughter. “—I’m a young woman with blood in my veins.” “--Fine. Then I’m getting you a husband.” Ursula says she already told her she doesn’t want a husband, but Sofia says tough, she’s getting her one anyway. Discussion over.

Over at Justo’s, he, Ascanio and Ines are eating breakfast. He discusses Jorge’s offer to have Uriel sell the lanterns in his store. He advises Ascanio to suggest to Santi that he shouldn’t look the proverbial gift horse in the mouth when it comes to commerce. He also suggests he go see Romeo Castillo about taking some to sell to other merchants in the neighboring areas and to tell him that Justo sent him. He then asks Ines, who is very obviously distracted, about Vasco and she says he went off early to take care of some farmers and their grain. She leaves to give Paco his bath.

Justo signals to Ascanio afterward and tells him he’s upset with Vasco because he’s been seeing Ursula again. He’d thought marriage would settle Vasco down, but it didn’t. He asks him not to tell Santi, but he’s worried that Jorge will find out. He’s hoping that Ascanio can talk some sense into Vasco and explain somehow that he’s got to stop playing with fire. Ascanio says Vasco ought to know this by now, but he’ll try to figure out something to say to him.

Upstairs at Santi’s, GRita is griping to herself and the baby about what a sin it is for a husband not to sleep with his wife any longer. Santi walks in dressed in his best again and she asks where he’s going. He says to see Sofia. Grita asks if she sent for him to perhaps discuss the baby’s baptism. He says he hasn’t any idea but she thinks certainly they will want to be the godparents. He asks her if it was their idea or hers because he figures it was she who did the asking. He is against it anyhow. She says so what harm if it was her since Sofia was the matron of honor for Cami’s wedding. He insists she was , but Jorge had no part in that. She insists he’s Santi’s father and he insists he doesn’t want to argue about it further.

Grita changes the subject to why Santi moved to another room and he tells her he wants to be able to sleep at night without her constant complaints. He hands her the baby back and leaves. She whines to herself about why he’s so changed, then says, “Why should I ask when I already know the answer?”

At LaFont’s he tells the household to receive Lis and Fran and to treat Lis as if she were already the lady of the house. No exceptions. When he leaves, Mannie worries about not really knowing Lis very well. Agata says she’s a nice lady, and being blind, she is probably a decent person.
==============

At the palace Sofia and Jorge discuss the engagement between Lis and LaFont. She says she understands that even if he ought to be despicably vile as a husband. She doesn’t think that Lis should be moving in before the wedding and says she wonders then if there isn’t something else going on. Jorge plays dumb. Just then Santi arrives and she gets ready to go in and see him. He hopes Sofia can make him see reason and accept. She gives him a silly stare and walks off.

Al is meeting with the judge. Eustaquio informs him that the complainants will meet to discuss the actual amount of the inheritance and he will need the original will to do so. He says he figures Cami must have spent quite a lot of it already. Al says that Ric will pay the rest of what’s left. Then he says the judge must order reinforcements of the guard for the nearby towns because he suspects that Ric might do something crazy in order to protect his wife and he’s someone to be wary of. Eustaquio doesn’t think it’s necessary because Ric seems too civilized and a gentleman for that. Angrily Al reminds him of the old Spanish saw, “we see the face but the heart is unknown”, so he’d better do it or else particularly since Jorge agrees.

Back at the palace, Sofia makes excuses for her husband and tells Santi that Jorge is no better and no worse than other Lord Governors. Santi says one ought to at least try to conduct himself as a Christian. She agrees, but asks how many really manage to do it. She continues to open up to him, “I’ve not had a pleasant life; and then I had a daughter who, well, turned out like her father.” She tells him her worry is for the town folk who are mainly good, honest and hardworking family men. She thinks they need his help.

Santi says, everyone one who is aware of their relationship tells him the same thing, but he’s too full of bitterness and it’s much stronger than he and outweighs the rest. His soul is full of hate and there isn’t a day that goes by that he doesn’t think of all the misfortune in his life Jorge is responsible for: “that damned night, the business with my engagement to Camila, my life turned into a tragedy, from a happy man turned into a poor wretch, --because I still am a miserable wretch.” Sofia reminds him that helping others can be a salve for his soul. “Seeing the grateful face of others, knowing that you have the power to help, to remedy injustice…..”

Santi asks Sofia how she knows that he is capable of such things. She answers that he is a good-hearted man, and one who has also suffered. He says, even so he cannot imagine getting along with the man and his mother thinks Jorge will pervert him. Sofia tries to remind him of Christ’s vanquishing The Devil in the desert, but Santi says he’s a sinner and not Christ. She replies that St. Paul was a sinner, too. “You want to convince me whatever the cost, right, Doña Sofia?” She smiles. “Of course! At least promise me you’ll think about it. Ok?”

Sofia changes the subject a minute to the baby’s baptism. She says GRita asked them to be the godparents, but she’ll understand if he doesn’t want that and she will not be offended. He basically says thanks, but no thanks. Sofia says, “Whether it might be hate or love, blood always calls to blood.” He asks her why she is so insistent. Fighting back tears she tells him it’s because she believes in him.
===========

Castulo tells Ric that there is no possibility of renouncing, sharing or making donations because the will is absolutely air-tight. Ric asks for him to investigate if Alberto is thinking of suing his wife in order to invalidate the will. Castulo then visits with Eustaquio who confirms the suit is in the works already, based on the ED letter he’s been given. Castulo is impactado to hear that what remained of the burned document that was legible stated that, due to Timoteo’s advanced age, he would have been unable to consummate the marriage. Though it “pains” the judge to learn of it, for Camila Darien’s sake, “The law is the law,” he says with the imperious smile of a jurist who knows he holds the legal trump card in the case.

Meanwhile, outdoors, Ric stares menacingly at his aunt while LaFont escorts her and Lis down the street to Frankenstein Manor, baggage in tow. It is a curious scene, oddly reminiscent of a funeral entourage, as our popular pirate ponders his poker-hand and peers at the pretentious pug-thug parading his prize past the paseo. LaFont may have correctly figured Cami to be Ric’s Achilles’ heel, but now he’s shown his worst enemy that Lis is his.

Castulo meets back a few minutes later with Ric to confirm his suspicions that Alberto definitely filed the lawsuit and it is based on the ED letter Eustaquio was given.

Lis and Fran arrive at Bouffy's house meanwhile and Mannie welcomes them graciously. Al says good-bye because he must go. He kisses Lis’ hand, but she hides any squirrely feeling that kiss has given her (and the rest of us) and he leaves.

Ric tells Castulo, over rum and sherry at the tavern, that Fran told him herself she got that ED letter by bribing the doctor. Castulo once again looks like he’s just swallowed a spoonful of castor oil.
=======

At Frankenstein Manor, Mannie shows the two women to their rooms. Fran asks to be put in the same bedroom as Lis and Mannie obliges. They tell her that they want Clothilde brought from the other house to be their maid. Fran says she’ll give her Clothilde’s “references” (no doubt as fake as that ED letter, IF the old gossip has any) from the last house once they’re unpacked. Mannie leaves and the two discuss whether Lis has done the right thing because now Ric will hate them. Fran insists there was no other option for them and says “better hate than indifference” since Ric has never ever shown her any interest. Lis agrees she is oh so right about that. (What a woe is me scene. These two take the cake.) Fran says then that she only hopes that Ric doesn’t try to take it out on her now.

Jorge asks Sofia what she and Santi discussed. She says just about the baptism. He is upset that Santi refused to have them be the baby’s godparents and says damn, he’s an arrogant man! Sofia says he has a reason to be. Jorge asks if Santi considered accepting Jorge’s offer. She says he didn’t agree to anything and they really didn’t discuss it. He wonders why and she says because it is a decision you have to make without being pressured. He says Santi is spiting him.

Just then Alberto, Marcel and Dali (Matteo and Uriel) arrive for their meeting with Jorge while he and Sofia are still discussing the Santi situation. Sofia notes how Uriel takes a minute to talk to Tita about her doll and is impressed with his caring attitude. The men go into the office to wait for Jorge and she asks for a minute more with Jorge. She says it’s time that Ursula gets married, and that they should marry her off right away and be done with it. He asks why, if she’d done something she shouldn’t have. Sofia says no, but there’s no reason to go off to Mexico City to find a husband for Ursula when one of his friends would do. He asks who and she says possibly Uriel. Jorge smiles and seems to nod his approval.
=========

Out in the countryside on their way to the boat, Pablo asks Mario if the boss is finally ready for them to go back out to sea for some bidnez. Mario says no, it has to do with something about his wife. Pablo asks if Ric is really in love then. He says he envies that because he’s never found a good woman. Mario says him either. Pablo asks about Jimena. Mario says to be quiet about her because just talking about her makes him hot to trot (and Mario needs a cool head to do his task, remember). Talk turns to Pablo’s mother being a whore who abandoned him when he was very young. As for his brothers, he has no idea where they are since he left home long ago because his father used to beat him every day of his life.

Mario warns Pablo not to judge his mother or the life she might have led. He says it might even be that she didn’t actually leave them but the other way around. Pablo says he knows many women who fell into the life because they had to, but when it comes to leaving a child for the life, that is different. He asks Mario about what his mother was like. Mario says she was a saint who didn’t have the guts to defend her son the way Pablo’s did. “How long since you’ve seen her?” he asks Pablo. “Years. And I have no desire to either.” Mario tells him he ought to because she’s very lonely and misses him greatly. Pablo asks him if he knows her, then. He says of course. “She killed a man for you.” Pablo asks who. Mario answers, “El Tuerto. She found out what he did to you when you were bringing El Antillano’s two chests.” Pablo wipes away tears. “Then she’s here?” Mario answers yes but he won’t tell him where until Pablo swears to him that he’ll listen to whatever she has to say to him. Pablo doesn’t know what to think when he hears this.
========

Back in Jorge’s office, Jorge tells the posse that LaFont will coordinate things, Uriel will sell the contraband out of his store and Matteo will be the go-between with the pirates. Matteo wants to know how the profits will be divided up and Jorge says like always: 50% for Jorge, 25% to Al, and the remaining 25% between Uriel and Matteo. Matteo asks Jorge again about the jewels and Jorge replies that it’s still too soon to be passing them around. He’s got them safely stored in the cellar for now and he doesn’t want Ric to know they have them. So then talk turns to making sure they have papers to sell the merchandise “legitimately” out of Uriel’s store; LaFont growls that naturally Jorge’s taking care of that right there locally. Jorge orders Uriel to make contact with the current distributor, Romeo Castillo, in Tres Cruces and to tell him that Juancho the Pirate decided to do business with them now. He shouldn’t have a problem with that. Jorge emphasizes again that no one is to ever know that he is personally involved in any of this.

Jorge also warns them to be especially careful in dealing with these pirates, because they murder at the drop of a hat (or for the simple business of removing a fly, as he put it).

Meanwhile, Don Eustaquio arrives at Ric’s hacienda with a summons for Cami and introduces himself. Ric greets him and confirms for the judge that she’s out of town. He says he knows about the case but suggests that since she’s away he can come instead in her absence. The judge says fine, for purposes of becoming familiar with the facts, but she will have to present herself. Ric says alright then asks what time he has to be in court the next morning.

Thanks for the great recap. Several distractions during last night's show and I missed a lot.

Sofia is my new hero. She is really good at navigating between Jorge y Santi.

If Ric knows the ED letter is fake, why can't her twist Fran's arm on that using her complicity in framing him? He's got witnesses to that and a pardon from the padrino, right?

MinMN

Jardinera: Thanks for picking up all the details I missed.

I get so mad at Fran and Lis. I could just jump through the TV to get at them. Too bad I have a flat panel.

I really admired Ines last night. I didn't think she had it in her to stand up to anybody. That girl has spunk. But, the magnitude of her actions will probably be lost in Vasco's vacant head.

Yup - I'm looking for Cami to put another monkeywrench in Ric's path. He even went so far as to warn Jimena to watch out for her. We are probably in for some real pirate action - yeah!

From lower Ala

Good morning Dreaded Lucy Cash; that was a peach of a recap! Bless you for so carefully translating the intricacies of all those conversations. My dear you really are the mistress of the pen, and I quote "as our popular pirate ponders his poker-hand, and peers at them as the pretentious pug-thug parades his prize past the paseo". That was no mere description, that was a work of art! I commend you for once again providing a recap at least as delightful as the original.

Thank you!

Grateful for the recap cuz I fell asleep midway thru last nite's episode & woke up in time to catch highlights what is coming tonight. Slept like crap the nite before & it caught up to me.

Ines you go girl!!!!! Jime's talk w/ her gave her some backbone to flat out tell Vasco off.

I like Sofia. She can tell it like it is. As for Ursula, if she has to marry Uriel, she is still gonna mess around behind his back so why bother marrying her off.

Yeah Santi for moving into your own room. Bout time!

I think Le Bouffy has a secret room in his house & he has a picture of Jorge & practices dagger throwing at it (lol). I'm beginning to believe he is one taco short of a full platter.

Wow I hope they show again Ric seeing Le Bouffy w/ Cuz Liz in town. Sounds like it was one of those "if looks could kill glances". As for Ric twisting Auntie's arm to finally tell the truth about framing him: it's clear she has her own agenda & besides since she verbally told Ric she framed him it would be her word against his.

O.K. who wants to get the betting pot going & placing the odds in Vegas on how long it will be before Cami shows back up in town. We all know she ain't gonna stay put.

I laughed when I read your "don't touch me" and "let me go" remark. Yes, those were the first phrases I really learned in Spanish from watching telenovelas. The second one is really useful for remembering the vowel change from "soltar" to "suelte".

It was a great recap Dreaded Lucy Cash! It's really cleared a lot for me.
You are soo right in your comment "...Cami is totally ADDS challenged when it comes to following directions. We know this. Ric knows this. I hope he has a Plan B and a Plan C ready, ‘cuz sure as shootin’ he’s gonna need it with this dim dame! " Can't wait to see where she'll screw up.
Heil for Ines - you go girl! Finally Vasco might start thinking with the right head.
I completely forgot about the bribery to get ED letter. It's getting interesting because Fran for sure is afraid that all Liz-Buffy buisness might get back to her and she will be accused in murder that Ric was blamed for.
She even mentioned it herself one time.
Sofia is such a sweetheart - she knows very well that Santi is the only one who can turn the "presidency" the right way. And probably that what will happen - Sofia's words about feeling good doing good deeds came from her own experience.

I still want to go back to the love scene.

Getting addicted ( to love scene) Eve from Cleveland

Thanks for the masterful fill in. Once again Jardinera, you outdo yourself with wit, alliteration and clear insights into this frenetically paced plot.

Eve, I'm happy to say I got to see the love scene four times (I watch Pasión at 7 and again at 19 each night). I love how they repeat these power scenes at the end of one night and the beginning of the next. It was more fun and almost as satisfying as seeing GRita get smacked 4 times this week. Hey this has been a great week, no?

Make that 10 o'clock the second time. 19 is also 7 on the 24h clock... Needing coffee here in Nuevo Mexico.

CherylNewMex, you have two ( at least) lifelines - I envy you!

Eve from Cleveland

Thanks, Jardinera! I did get to watch this and I kept asking myself how long it would take me if I had to recap all of those gabby scenes.

I think Ursula would be LUCKY to marry Uriel. Not that Uriel's such a prize, but she could do a lot worse.

On the other hand, I wasn't sure whether it was supposed to be creepy or sweet when he was nice to Tita.

The next question is whether he'd be willing to marry Ursula, knowing what she's like. I would think he'd prefer a meeker sort.

Thanks, Jardinera for the great recap. Cheryl~~I try to be in bed by 19 o'clock most nights. Did Ines really tell Vasco that ''he couldn't keep his fly closed .'' ??? And, with all those buttons back then...you'd think that he could. At least Vasco doesn't have to go on TV and apologize. The scene of Camila and I nes leaving and Ric saying goodbye was heartrenching. I liked the promise given by the pirate bodyguard.

Have we met Romeo Castillo yet? It sounds as though he's a happenin' guy.

If looks could kill Fran would be dead. LaFont really doesn't know who he's dealing with as far as Ric goes. Ric would kill him in a heartbeat to protect Camila. Grita doesn't understand why Santi doesn't want to sleep in the same bed with her. All she has to do is look at herself in the mirror. She has completely driven him away. Looking forward to tonights
show. Fireworks for sure and Ric laid the smackdown on Vasco in the previews. Can't wait. And enjoyed seeing that smoking hot love scene again. We all know Camila won't stay put. The question is how long will it be before she comes back and blows up Ric's plans. I love Camila but she is impulsive and just reacts before thinking it through. Poor Ines. I was glad she wouldn't take Vasco lame excuses for cheating on her.

The frying pan is really heating up now, isn't it? I'm sure somebody (probably Camila) will end up in the fire soon enough!

Uriel...and Ursula. Uriel...and Urusla. *Purses lips* Well, I could go for it, but based on the face-sucking in the credits, I fear something will come up to keep the Double Us from hooking it up. (Though I will admit, even I almost got a soft spot for old Uriel when he started with the doll - as long as it was just that he's nice to kids, and not some sort of well-hidden pedophile!)

Lord, if Lis marries LaFont, will that make her Mannie's new mother? I think I'd ask to be disowned! (Hey, and then she could marry Ascanio once she had no status!)

Mad Marley, you found a good way for Mannie to get married to Ascanio. Could they "divorce" their parents back then?

Eve from Cleveland

I think that Camila won't be able to stay away from Ricardoooo for very long, but then...who could ??? If she returns to town, she will be right behind the 8 ball. Vasco is getting it from all sides. I am looking forward to Ric punching his dim lights out tonight. It's time for Vasco to man up and start taking responsibility for all the pain and trouble that he has caused to the people he supposedly loves..Camila, Ines, Justo, Paco. Ric may be a pirate , but he is a pirate with a good heart who does not take his responsibilities lightly. He is a good man....and a hot lover. He could give a seminar on neck-kissing. He has mad skills. p.s. I think that the vino spraying out of the bottle was a big surprise for Fernando and Susana that seemed to give them both a real case of the giggles. That big old chest at the end of the bed is very handy for late night munchies. I think I might have to get one of those.

Fantastic recap and I so appreciate your work.
So, when does somebody reveal to everybody that the poverty stricken Lis is not poor?!
And although Ri-car-do planted a seed of doubt in Buffy's head about Lis returning to LM, Buffy is not acting like he's worried Lis is using him. He is also becoming so uppidy with Whoreje. Whoreje seems oblivious to how the power is changing.

Thanks for translating all the bits my Spanish isn't quite up to!

What I'd like to see would be Camila or Ricardo 'fessing up that the chest of money Lisabeta found was from Camila, Timoteo's money. At that point the clause in the will would kick in, everything would go to the Freemasons, Camila could stay out of town (on the boat? La Iguana? wherever) until Ricardo could buy her freedom.

And if LaFont and Lisabeta do get married (double-LLs? Y?) perhaps Nana will find that her duties now include food taster.

Toddson

Manny's nana NEEDS some work to do anyway. She has been totally useless as a buffer for that abused child. Remember when Manny was crying about her father's cruelty and Nana's response was 'Look at the pretty dress I've pulled out for you to wear today'. And her sage advice to Manny was all men are bad husbands so don't worry about getting a good one.

I'm still mad at Nana. Where's that pie cart!?

A couple of things are confusing me:

1. Is Lis REALLY planning to marry LaFont, or is this just part of the plan to get him to help her with the inheritance? She seems to find him revolting.

2. If she marries Lafont, wouldn't he then be in charge of any money she gets based on how women were viewed in those days? So wouldn't Ric's offer to give back the money benefit her more?

3. If the will is invalid and Camila loses the fortune, why can't she then reveal that she gave the gold to Lis, thus reducing the amount she has to pay back?

Toddson, I think that the legal action is to prove that marriage wasn't consumated and apparently is invalid, anything related to inheritance as a widow not applied. Cami should give EVERYTHING back and go back being a slave. And if she doesn't have enough money ( because Ric lost his fortune as well) - put her in jail. That's is what Lafont after - to make Liz happy and put Cami in jail.

Jestena, this gold was part of the whole inheritance so even if she admits giving it to Liz it will not reduce the other "missing" part ( paid for freeing friends from slavery, helping father, buying a house etc...)

Eve from Cleveland

I think Lis's plan is to have Camilla as a personal slave to kick around the house thus hurting her and keeping Ricardo from having her.

The money debt would logically be reduced when the accountant sees ex number of dollars was already turned over to Lis. No?

Yes, I think that Lis really hates Camila for marrying Ric, so even more than the money, Lis wants to hurt Camila...throw her in jail, make her a slave again. Lis, like our Vasco, does not always think with her head. She is obsessed with RicRicRic, and if she can't have him [ as Tia has so bluntly explained to her and the doll on soooooo many occasions], she at least does not want Camila to have him . If she truly loved Ric, she would want him to be happy, but like Saintly, she is interested in her own wants and desires not in what is best for the one she supposedly loves. In my book, that's not love...that's lust. As for her deal with Lafont, she doesn't realize whom she is dealing with...the devil. She thinks that she is manipulating him to get what she wants now that it finally has gradually seeped into her little head that no way, no how will Ric ever want her. I don't think she really believes that she'll have to marry him, but Lafont is dead serious about the price he's asking for his help. They deserve each other. Lafont is getting more and more arrogant. I hope that Jorge wakes up and realizes that Lafont has his own agenda and is no longer his loyal friend. I want the pie truck to run over Lis and Lafont,,,,several times.... Beep, beep.

Hi, I'm new here... To the bloggers taking the time out of their busy day to write these recaps: Greetings from Ca. and a heartfelt, "Thank You, thank you!" When your Spanish is as lacking as mine, it is really terrific to be able to have your morning cup of java, and go back, read, and be enlightened to what ACTUALLY happened the night before. lol Alas, no English subtitles available here- either that, or the TV's sadly defective. The comments are also wonderful as well- witty, warm, and fill in so many details.

A few comments on the lighter side of things: Rita's slap heard round the world... once is never enough. Anyone else notice at the end of the opening panning scene at the wedding portion, she is waiting in line in her servants clothing (Santo is wearing a rich man's elegant clothing, minus green scarf... could the richness be from sales of lanterns instead of his birthright?) clutching her stomach, and looking at Santo forlornly? Mario's Indiana Jones sword fight scene: loved every minute of it. He and Jim make a splendid couple! Did anyone else notice Mario is not shown at the end of the opening panning scene at the wedding as well? (At least as far as I can tell.)

Santo's hair: a little deep conditioning and a trim goes a long way hombre- you're worth it! Did anyone else notice the hair crimp on the right side of Foreman's tow-hair both Mon. and Tues.? From my vast experience with the perils of hair styling, this crimp is either from hurried flattening iron straightening, bleach overprocessed overlapping or breakage, or even add on extensions blending in, or it's a wig... there you have it.

About all the Tatas overflowing the lavish gowns in this town: wasn't aware that miracle push-up bras were used in this time period- thought the metal boned and/or cane lined corsets actually flattened the girls up top, and only hinted at one's decollete.' The actresses look pretty though- plus I suppose breathing is more of an issue with action scenes these days as well.

If Le Bouffant (what kind of hair spray or shellac are they using on this guy to make his hair not move in a breeze?) does away with Rita, Santo is free to marry who he wants again... if he finds out Camilla was never actually married to heartthrob Ric...Can't wait to see what twisted, convoluted complications happens tonight!

Uh-uh, Camilla is not going to marry Santiago under any circustances, I forbid it. I reject the first-love first heart-throb for-ever stories. And I'm enjoying this story too.ooo much for a cliche resolution looking like everyother love story. I would be SO ooo dissappointed.
Thinking on dissappointment, why can't I have Inez continue her change becoming such a strong person, recognizing her own worth, asking for the kind of love she wants. And if its not vASco that can fulfil her requirements, how about that cutie Jesus :)

One tiny snag in Lis' little scheme (aside from the whole nasty kissy La Bouf thing): if the inheritance to Cami is rendered null & void then Cami becomes her servant, does she really think Ric won't notice? Now THAT will surely endear him to Lis, won't it?

Go Ines! vASSco had some nerve. Hope he gets a good case of something itchy & burning on his naughty bits from this last slutfest. He can't have gotten it any earlier b/c then he'd pass it on to Ines. We have to keep her safe.

I'm going to miss tonight's episode :-( so I'll be anxiously looking forward to tomorrow's recap. Jardinera: thanks for today's!

Jardinera - thank you very much for the fabulous and very descriptive recap.

I am so proud of Ines. She has transformed into a new person, she is so much stronger. I am wondering whether she will end up with Vasco or someone else, perhaps Ascanio.

I can't believe that Liz is actually thinking of marrying Lafont. I think that she just want to use him or something. I don't think that she would ever consider to "betray" Ric. On the other hand, Fran knows how to persuade her. I guess we'll see.

I agree - poor Manuela...

Thanks for the splendid recap Cuzzin Dreaded Lucy Cash! You always fill in my ??? with your attention to detail.

Ursula preys on the weak, but she really needs a strong man to reign her in.

Poor Manuela, she's got an evil father, a bad Nana, and no mother. She's overdue for Ascanioooo.

Liz probably doesn't know how to love or lust, with the way she was brought up. She's definitely on the wickedly crazy side of the fence.

It would be great if Santi just pulled his hair back into a ponytail.

Yes, mad bess, they should be runover and then backed over and repeated several times. Speaking of repeating, I replayed that Grita smackdown scene a few times myself and it felt so good...
jb-Iron Jack Cash

Mad Maggie that is so funny, "...itchy burny on his naughty bits..." ! And wHOOOO could help him with that problem? Why certainly his MIL has a cure. ...maybe more than one cure...

Does anybody believe in resurrection of the letter destroyed by Grita? They showed a few nites ago ( flashback in Grita's mind) that she actually tear it apart and it wasn't too hard ( like regular paper). I have doubt's that it can be readable after tearing and burying in dirt after a few years.

Eve from Cleveland

Eve, I was also distressed to be reminded she ripped the letter up. I have no fear, however, that the letter, bits thereof, or someone's memory of it, will surface someday. The very fact that we were reminded of it tells me it will pop up again in some form.

Cap'n Sharkbait, you are probably right - Welcome to telenovela world where anything is possible!

Eve from Cleveland.

Another great recap--thanks to all the recappers.
It was great to see sweet little Ines rise up and defend herself to Vasco. He needs to appreciate her before it's too late.
Dona Sofia has learned how to gently persuade a man to change his mind. Too bad gRita can't take lessons from her.
When Clotilde joins the witches' crew at LaFont's house, she and Nana can have lots of fun with gossip and bad advice.
La Paloma

Thanks again to all you pirate partisans who choose to peruse and palaver on this page..... ; ? )) Guess I'm stuck on p's today. Go figure. Glad the conversation translations helped y'all, though I for one am ready for a recap with more action to speed through for once!
===========

Cap'n Sharkbait/ Cheryl: My eyes were glazing over by the time I got to Ric watching Fran and Lis parading down Main Street with LaFont after all that tedious talk to translate, and I figured you all might be too, so I just thought I'd wake us all up a bit with a word exercise. Well, at least it worked for me..... =/;3)
========
Anyway,
Eve: "Sofia's words about feeling good doing good deeds came from her own experience." I think you've got Sofia's side of things perfectly.
======
Julie: what evil thoughts we've come to consider after all these recent novelas! :3) Uriel?? I don't think I could handle more perversion than what we've been given so far. I hope it's just our brains working overtime.
========
Yes we already met Romeo when Mario and Ric went undercover the first time to Salvatierra and spoke to him using false names at the outside taverna. He broadly hinted that he was turning a blind eye the black market goods that were being sold, but that an English corsair could be connected to the caravan heists if I remember right.

RE: the letter Grrita tore up & buried in yard: Maybe little Paco will find it. You'd be surprised what little boys find when they're digging up the yard (that is from past experience from my brothers).

Lady Lisa: I feel your pain re: the captions. All week I've had to watch Pasion from my bedroom TV. For some bizarre reason,all of a sudden the 8 yr old TV in my living room won't pick up the captions from Univision (hey but it will on Telemundo) but the 4 yr. old TV in my bedroom picks them up just fine. I too wish for the english captioning but in a way this works cuz it is helping me re-learn spanish. I'm getting where I'm not having to pick up my dictionary after every other word.

Here's a new game we all can play: during the opening panning scene @ the wedding (during the opening credits), locate & name all the Pasion characters. I'll bet there is a charater someone will miss.

Thanks for a great recap!!Of course Grita will never see reason because she is in complete denial!!! And Liz will get what she deserves if she marries Bouffy.....he will beat her for sure and too bad so sad....

It was sad when Cami and Jimi had to leave, but it looks like they left just in time!

Can't wait for tonight's !!!!

Sofia really impresses me, more and more. She's the best thing that ever happened to Whorehey. He treats her like crap, but I'm sure he knows that too. That look she gave Whorehey was hilarious.

Ines continues to come down hard on The Disgraceful and Stupid Ones. BRAVO. vASSco did some great facial emoting during the latter part of the fight with Ines. Her words were cutting him right to the quick. He was sooooo upset with himself. I say sooooo what.

Lis insists with crocodile tears running down her cheeks that it is because Cami has left her poverty-stricken and out on the streets... Right. We can tell how poverty-stricken you are, Lis, by all those gorgeous gowns and perfect hairdos you and Franny wear everyday. And the fact that those gowns continue to fit your figures very nicely, which wouldn't happen if you were as emaciated as you put on. Huh.
*****
Little Ana (15 years into the future): "Mama. You say Papa never held me more than five minutes at a time while I was a baby, with you in the room. Why was that?"

The GritEater (with teeth bared): "It was all CaMILa's fault. She was jealous of you. She slept with the whole town. She ruined my marriage. She curdled the milk of every cow in WhorejeyVille. It was hell, I tell you!"

Little Ana (with a knowing look): "Eh... nevermind. It's kinda obvious."
*****

Mannie worries about not really knowing Lis very well. Agata says she’s a nice lady, and being blind, she is probably a decent person. LMAO!! Holy Moly.

Many thanks for the recap, Jardinera.

Oh, THAT Romeo Castillo. I remember him! Thanks, Jardinera!

PaulaTX - I'm not sure, but I think someone did itemize the entire opening sequence... but I could be wrong. Maybe the other Paula (Mad Polly Flint) only requested it? I don't remember.

I was very skeptical at the beginning that the opening sequence had any significance. I'm still pretty doubtful, but I have to admit, a lot of the couples look pretty plausible, and the fact that Rita sort of looks like a ghost at the very end, holding her belly, does seem pretty foreboding.

We'll find out soon enough. :)

Ultimas Semanas as of tonight.

Jardinera, I just got your message after an evening of the loveliest Spanish guitarists in Abq. I reread your comment on :

Meanwhile, outdoors, Ric stares menacingly at his aunt while LaFont escorts her and Lis down the street to Frankenstein Manor, baggage in tow. It is a curious scene, oddly reminiscent of a funeral entourage, as our popular pirate ponders his poker-hand and peers at the pretentious pug-thug parading his prize past the paseo. LaFont may have correctly figured Cami to be Ric’s Achilles’ heel, but now he’s shown his worst enemy that Lis is his.

Whoooeeeyyy baby, you are right on the money. I thought the same thing. Can't wait to see the outcome(s) of this little moment. But I think Buffy's evil spirit is going to win for awhile partly because Camila will do more stupid things than Liz for the present. Thanks for bringing that up again, it was very worthy of a reframed look.

WHY has the ED letter not been shown? Yes its fragile, having been thru the fire and handled by dirty hands but it is physical evidence that would need to be examined. Right?
Or is the viewer being asked to suspend knowledge of current day laws. Otherwise I say Ri-car-do's lawyer is negligent, the judge is gullible and La Bouffant is a truth teller? Hah!

I'm missing my morning recap with my coffee. I hope it will be there soon - can't wait!
About the ED letter - you are right cpt. Bonney Morgan, we still haven't seen it since Barnabe had it in his hands. Even Liz took the Lafont word that he has it. Nobody would show it to Ric directly but he abogado should of requested it. Hmm, strange! They don't trust each other in any other way but all agree that card exists without seeng it.
Eve from Cleveland

Well, Tia Fran got the ED letter through bribery in the first place. Perhaps Lafont and the judge are keeping that tradition alive in some way. :)

It ought to be easy enough to whip up a replacement letter and half-burn it too, if need be. Among the good guys, only Justo, Vasco, Paco, and Sofia have ever seen it... and none of them are likely to think to ask to look at it again. So a forged replacement could work out.

The question, however, is how Lafont & co. would know that it was half-burnt (the judge did describe it to Ric's lawyer that way). I doubt any of the good guys would have told the bad guys about the burning, so if Lafont knows it's half-burnt, it's probably because he saw it (or maybe Bernabe told him).

But I think the most likely thing is that it just didn't occur to any of the Real Life people that we would want to see the damn thing again. Maybe they lost the original prop and didn't think it was worth replacing it?

I think the more pressing issue is, when is Ascanio going to take his shirt off again?

Oh, I bet I'm wrong. I bet Fran showed the letter to Ric before it got lost. Dang. There goes that theory. He'd probably recognize a duplicate.

The issue I was pressing for with Ascanio.ooo was for people to RECOGNIZE he was in danger of being re-enslaved. Maybe now Santiago will make a move to save the people. Although Santi is looking like he would enjoy staying out of things just so Ri-car-do fails; and he could then say 'see I was right about him'.

Julie, the problem is that this was long time ago before the card was burned and used by Vasco and then Barnabe.
Eve from Cleveland

But if the money where paid for freeing slaves the only problem is recovering the money to give them back to Liz, no? Why they shoud go back, does the freeing required the new owner name to be there ( Cami) or it's just a payment.

Eve from Cleveland

Aahhhh, BUT, Lis is SO looking forward to - OWNing them. ... all will be punished and put to the lash cause she didn't get her man!

I noticed that quite a few bloggers are watching ( and recapping) few more telenovellas - like Querendon ( I quit watching this one after first week), Guapos, etc. From your experience where this show "Pasión" stands between all others that going on now?
Just out of curiosity.

Eve from Cleveland

My wife is also watching Guapos and Traicion, she likes Pasion the best. It is one of her top couple of shows ever.
I have seen far fewer, and outside of Alborada it has not been a murderer's row of candidates (Duelo, Heridas, Amar) Pasion is my favorite so far too.

I think all the misfortune that will fall on Santiago's family, as well as Justo's family, will prompt Santiago to take action. Actually, the thought of anything happening to Camila would be enough, but the rest to just make sure.

I haven't been around so maybe this has been discussed, does anyone else think that Jorge would disassociate from Bouffant and a lot of the illegal stuff if he could? He looks tired of all of it, and especially tired of Bouffy.

Yeah, Ferro, I think Buffy is getting way Puffy here. I think Jorge is getting a gullet full of his number two acting so independent and all mighty. It will be interesting to see who betrays whom in the coming episodes. There is no honor among thieves as Mom used to say. Jorge also doesn't like people acting out of pasion and lust instead of making hard headed logical decisions but look who's talking! He didn't really want to violate the last couple of virgins and wouldn't have if his drinking buddies hadn't egged him on (speaking of huevos in the Mexican sense). So I think Buffy is headed for a fork in the road or has already taken it away from Jorge's benevolent protection.
