Fuego, Episode #3: In Which Televisa has turned "Rodrigo" into Mighty Joe Young, among other beasts...

Buenas noches a todos. Hello everyone. My name is Nicolás (Nick) and I am your Wednesday-night Fuego en la Sangre recapper. I am happy to be a part of the exciting Caray Caray recapping staff.

We start the evening with scenes from yesterday’s episode. We know that Libia confronts her brothers with the fact that she is pregnant with Bernardo’s child. Bernardo’s death is provoked by Fernando, and Libia shows up at Bernardo’s ranch, telling everyone that she is carrying Bernie’s baby. Then, tragically, Fernando stalks Libia to Bernie’s and her waterfall where Fernando beats her to death. This telenovela re-played twelve minutes of yesterday’s episode!

We see the Reyes brothers struggling with Juan. Apparently he has a supernatural bond to Libia and feels the pain that she feels as she is being beaten to death by Fernando. The brothers then decide to go inside.

At the ranch, we see the three sisters. They doubt that Libia is the lover of their father and couldn’t possibly be carrying their father’s baby. Sofía says that she can’t judge someone who can’t defend herself. She is sure that her father wasn’t happy and that he was always arguing with their mom. Gabriela wants to talk to the girls in the study.

“No more crying! Mourning for your father stops now!” “What do you mean stop mourning?” Mom says: “Can’t you understand the shame that I am feeling? I know your father didn’t betray me. He just met Libia, told her that he loved her, and promised to marry her. Surely it stopped there. He wouldn’t have abandoned me for that piece of rubbish. But anyway, he made me feel the most ashamed in all of my life. I will continue to be a great Señora and no one will be able to reproach me for doing so. Therefore, all of the crying and mourning will stop now.” Sarita says: “Mom, don’t you think you’re asking too much from us?” Sofí says, “Mom, don’t think that we’re going to lock up our feelings for dad just like you lock us up. We’re going to keep flying like dad wanted us to. She storms out. Mom says: “Don’t think that you two are going to follow your sister’s actions.” “Well, I hope you don’t regret this decision” says Jimena. “Ah, Sarita, one day you will understand” says Gabriela.

At the bakery/house, Juan is pacing and cursing. “I’m not calming down until she gets home.” “Don’t worry about Juan,” says Oscar, “you know that he gets like this when he explodes with anger.”

In Libia’s bedroom: “What did I do wrong, mom?” He picks up Libia’s doll and says a prayer for not being the brother that Libia needed. “What did I do wrong?” he asks. “Well, whatever happens, just bring her back to me. That’s all I ask. Do we have a deal?”

Gabriela is throwing a temper tantrum because Libia is having Bernardo’s baby, that is, was having until Fernando killed her. And that means half of the family fortune goes to the “bastard.” In her rage, Gabby sees Libia in the mirror and breaks the mirror with a mug. “The mourning is over! You have left my life forever Bernardo!”

Juan is out in the rain again. How did they find plastic coverings for those hats? I didn’t think that anyone serious even wore those things nowadays.

Sofía is crying over her father’s coffin and thanks Eva for everything that she does for her, especially for saving her from Fernando all those times. “Well, it hurts me to see you suffer. That’s why I want you to rest and stop thinking about your father’s death.”

Fernando is in the bedroom as Sofía and Eva enter; he is holding the medallion of the now dead Libia and locks it away in his safe. “What are you putting in the safe?” asks Sofia, “and why did you change?” “Since when do you care about what I do?” asks Fernando. Then she faints a little. Yet, she refused to rest. Fernando leaves so that she can be more comfortable. She embraces Eva.

Juan is still outside wrapped in a ton of blankets. Here come the police with bad news... They found Libia’s body in the lagoon. The brothers are in disbelief and Juan explodes at the police officers. The brothers then hold Juan down to the ground like a wild animal being put down to death. “She’s not dead, she’s not dead…”

The next day…

We are at Bernardo’s funeral in the Church. Then Agustin says this poem/prayer to God, basically saying that he would love God no matter what (he just made it sound better with elegant rhyme schemes). The people sing… Jimena remembers the time that dad taught her how to drive, the time he gave her a necklace. Sarita remembers the time that Bernie taught her how to ride a horse, and did a magic trick. Sofia remembers when dad gave her a bracelet and a charm as they sat on a wall. Sofia is sobbing over her father’s coffin as the people sing.

The Reyes brothers run down the hills to the lagoon where they find Libia’s body. Question: If the police knew about the body last night, why did they just leave it there for someone else to find? Juan picks up Libia in his arms and looks for signs of life… “We better get going” says the “police guy,” “…we have a suicide investigation to start.” “No, this was not a suicide” says Juan. “Are you sure?” asks the police man. “No, she wouldn’t do that, she had a baby on the way. WAAAAAAAAAAA!” roars Juan. “Why?” All the brothers are on their knees crying.

We’re back at the ranch where everyone is returning from the Church. Grandpa asks why Gabby is in her street clothes. “Shouldn’t she be in her mourning getup?” “I don’t have to explain anything to you dad! Fernando, come with me.”

In the study: “Well, I can’t handle this stuff that used to me my… uh… Bernie’s, so I’m leaving it to you. You’re now the man of the house. So, without further ado, let’s go and get this notarized-just so everything’s legal.” Fernando smirks. “Also, just so we can all live in peace, I want to ask you to put my father in an asylum because I hate him and I can’t stand him. I want him to leave and never come back.” “Well sure ma’am, anything you say (now that I’m the boss).”
In the living room are the sisters, Eva, and grandpa. He suspects that the girl who came last night was telling the truth. “Yeah right gramps!” says Sarita, and stomps out. “Poor Sarita, she’s looking more and more like her mother every day. Luckily we can still change her back to a good person.” Everybody went to rest except Sofia and gramps. They’re both convinced that Libia and Bernie loved each other for real. She could tell by the way she spoke his name and suffered so.

At the bakery: “How did we go wrong Oscar?” asks Franco. “Well, I just hope she’s in heaven” says Oscar.

Juan is on his horse looking for Libia. He’s gone crazy.

So there’s a funeral at the bakery and everyone from town is there. The bros are convinced that Bernie killed their sister. “But how?!” asks the flower woman. “Bernie’s dead!” “But where’s Juan so we can tell him?” He’s with Libia in her room. He likes rubbing her dead body. “Why’d you go sis? Why’d you leave us? What happened? Oh my god! I would give my life to know what happened. Well what am I saying? I’m with you aren’t I? Everything’s gonna be A-OK. Remember when you were little and you got scared, and how I helped you, and read to you and sang to you?” He starts to sing to her about not wanting to loose her and so on and so forth. He then puts her in the bed and tells her not to be afraid of the dark. “I’ll never let anyone get near Libia.” He throws everything in front of the door and then holds Libia in the corner of the room. So Televisa has turned Rodrigo into Mighty Joe Young, interesting… “I’ll kill you if you touch her” says Juan to Oscar. Everyone is crying. “Remember, she’s afraid of the dark.” Franco sneaks Libia out the door when Juan is telling Oscar this. Then they hold each other and cry. Wow…

Back at the Ranch, Sofia and Gabby are talking. “Sofia, I want you to know that I’m not as bad as you think I am. Put yourself in my place. I’m suffering a lot because my husband left me and he’s having a baby with some girl. For once in your life, try to understand me.” “Well, of course I understand you.” “Thanks. You can go.” “Mom, I would like to talk to you about more things, get close to you, ya know?” “No! I got things to do! Go away!” “Yes mother, whatever you say.”

Back at Libia’s funeral, Juan has surprisingly come to his senses and is spick and span. He is going to take her to her grave and no one else. “No. All three of us will go” say the other two.

So, the three bros are carrying Libia’s coffin around the waterfall and take it inside a cave to burry it.

At the ranch, Fernando has the nice people from the “home” take gramps in. “No. I’m not goin’ nowhere.” “Listen, gramps, I’m taking you to a better place.” “No!” He holds a small, fake shot gun up. “You all can go live in a crazy man’s puddle. I ain’t goin’ no where now how.” The entire time Gabby is watching. The men start to take gramps off but they don’t get far. “You don’t convince me Fernando” he says. Out walks Gabriela. “Hey, dad, its okay, they’re taking you to a place where they will take care of you, it’ll be fun.” “No. You just want to get rid of me.” “What is going on?” ask Sofia and her sisters. “They’re tying to put me in an asylum.” “Why mom?” “Don’t get in the way.” “You’re not taking him anywhere!” “Don’t try to get in the way. I’m the woman of this house.” “Well, if you send him away, I go with him.” “Just look what you are doing to your sisters.” “No, this is your father. Just hope that we don’t send you off to one of these places one day.” “Hey, don’t talk to your mom that way!” says Fernando. “If he goes, I go.” “Well, you girls win.” “Ah, thanks girls, ya saved me. But just be careful with the holy inquisition.” Everyone laughs…

In the office… “I’m sorry ma’am. Sofia and I can’t keep living here. You and Sofia are always arguing and I can’t take it.” “Oh no, don’t go Fernando. We’ll build a nice place for the two of you to live in this here compound, all by yourselves. You’re my only help, the only one on my side…don’t leave me!”

Back in the cave, Juan and the bros are digging a grave, and in their good clothes too! It was tough work, but not too bad, they aren’t sweating. Then they get a bunch of thorny rope and wring it around their hands until they bleed and leave it there, swearing to avenge Libia’s death and to destroy whoever killed her.

Tomorrow: The brothers decide to act out their vengeance by looking for the Elizondo sisters at their ranch…

Welcome aboard Nicolas! Mighty Joe Young was a good description of that really awful scene of creepy crazy Juan fondling his dead sister's corpse. We get it that he's been driven insane with grief, we don't need to veer into necrophilia. On top of how really enraged they got about their sister's new boyfreind BEFORE they even met the guy too, it was really too much. These guys sure have issues.

Thanks for your comment Margaret. You are really funny and so right. I was in total disbelief with Juan's character--is he bipolar or what? For crying out loud, he has a break-down and then he comes out of it like nothing happened. What a character!

Welcome Nicolas & great recap!

So the police left Libia's body where they found it overnight? Maybe they're not allowed to work any overtime.

Great recap Nicolas...so quickly posted and detailed. It cleared up a few things for me.

Is it good for a telenovela when the viewer burst out laughing during an emotional heartbreaking scene? I love Eduardo Yanez but I couldn't help but be reminded that I'd seen all the crazies in Dest Amor. Pablo and Jorge needed those fake teardrops since they couldn't squeeze out any of their own.

However I can't stop watching since it's so over the top.

I wonder if there will be any Feonando/Suegra action in the future.

Susana, it's worse than that. The cop shows up and tells the Reyes brothers that their sister's body has been found. When they get there, she's still face down in the river. So how did they ID her? Did they turn her over to see her face then plop her back in the water?

Welcome Nicolás! Thank you for a super first recap. This is a first since I came upon Caray Caray last August, two men recapping the same show! I value your unique perspective to keep us down to earth about these tres hermanos who look like they will be overboard most of the time and no pirates in sight!

I found it interesting that Libia ended up with perfectly styled hair after her tough ordeal the night before that included being bludgeoned to death. However did they avoid all the bruises and blood out of the back of her head. Perhaps blood is a secret ingredient to substitute for creme rinse or styling gel.

Well on to the serious problem: Willa and I are searching high and low for a Mexican hat, this Pirate garb is so dated and Willa is ready for a new look. Hold on, a call is coming through....Yes, yes, we are hot on the trail of either a sombrero or a baker's hat. Stand by for wardrobe!!

This is actually from Capitulo # 2 but it is still bothering me. Something I heard when Feonando just before aiding Daddy Dearest down the daisy path: Daddy told Feonando that he knew he was the one who raped Sofia and that Sofia was planning to leave him. Did anyone else remember it, I don't think I hallucinated it although I hadn't had enough sleep. So now with Daddy dead, who else knows? Sofia apparently doesn't although she is right to be repulsed by slimy Feonando. Ewww, I hope Feo and Mommy don't get to have scenes down by the old water fall.

Isn't this the same waterfall in Yo Amo a Juan too? Ferro is right, there is only one of each site.

Thank you Nick for a good recap!

Well, all the time when Juan was on a screen I almost was yelling "Gaviota!!!!!" - it was so similar to Rod, I just couldn't believe that I was watching a different story.
Other brothers though where just like somebody wondered from the street and wasn't aware what is going on. Almost no emotions at all. Probably Rodrigo - oops - Juan took all the crying - yelling part on his broad shoulders.
Also I'm confused - who is older between the three - because the Oscar looks much older then 2 others, but Rod..oops Juan is the Boss in the family.
Now we know that on about 185th episode ( unless the producers will make it longer then 190 putting some angel into the picture) Libiya's picture with love words will appear as well as her necklace.

The conditions in the bakery disgust me as well! And if you take bread out of the oven and you can't hold it because it's too hot - it will be even hotter inside, so you can't bite and enjoy it - this for the first episode when Juan has tasted just baked bread.

Welcome Nicolás! I hope you enjoyed doing your first recap!

I love the idea of the police picking up Libia to find out who she is and then dropping her back in the water. Surely her skull is all cracked with dents from that huge stick Furd hit her with - they can't think it's suicide?

Welcome, Nicolas! That was great!

I noticed that when they were all holding Libia in the river, grabbing at her face, one of the guys (I think Franco) stuck his finger in her eye and you could see her blink in reaction. Ow!!

Cheryl - I don't recall what you describe in ep. 2 (Bern saying he knew F raped S and that S was planning to leave him) but maybe I missed it. S had already told her sisters that she was stuck with him. I think Bern DID hint to F that he was planning to leave Gabriela, though.

If Bern knew Feonando raped Sofi I find it hard to believe that he would have kept it secret all this time, especially from Gabriela who pretty much forced Sofi to marry the guy.

So, I'm not the only person who is worried about future Feonando/Gabriela scenes? Are we all having the same creepy thought?

Three episodes and I am already sick of Gabriela claiming to be irreproachable. Someone outside the family needs to reproach this chick pronto!

Also the guys' mood swings, especially Juan's. Ridiculous.

I assume the cops figured suicide because the dents in Libi's skull could have come from being dashed against the many nasty-looking rocks. I can't believe they left her there. Even if the town doesn't have a morgue, how could they leave her to be picked at by animals or whatever?

Welcome Nick, Very nice recap.
Margaret...yeah, I was repeating your mantra last night, the cop just left the body there?

Not to mention the ooops the back of her head should be missing.

Hey FYI, I don't know if anyone answered the question about hats in Mexico. So here goes, each state in Mexico has a certain type hat, my husband is from Guererro and their hats are very distinctive. Generic hats are seen all over Mx, but each state has their own also. The hats that Huey. Duey and Louie are wearing are from the state of Jalisco, and my husband says they are worn by Charros, (the guys who do the dancing horses). I've seen the Charros in Guererro, but those guys have as I call them (A Guererro Sombero). Hey those things aren't cheap think $400 or more per hat. The good ones are hand made. I ask my husband if a backwards baseball hat was the hat of Mexico DF and he said yeh.

Nicolas - thank you for your great, first recap. Welcome!

I believe that the general plot of this telenovela is really interesting and under different circumstances, it could be a masterpiece. But there are certain things that keep bugging me. Everyone'a reactions are over the top, the story has some gaps - I agree that it seems unbelievable that the police didn't remove the dead body. What's more, I am still trying to convince my self that the time period of the telenovela takes plase in 2007/8. Juan's reactions are more than excessive and it's difficult for me to accept that 3 grownup girls are under their mother's domination. Especially when the mother is intolerable.

Gabby should not have broken that mirror. 7 years of jinx!

Oy vey. Tried again last night but the incessant crying from ALL cast members plus the really scary bellowing from Juan (La Boca is what I'm calling him) is just too much. Sorry...I'm swearing off Bloody Fire for now. Someone said 190 capitulos? Ouch...I don't think I can handle the histrionics for that long.

See you guys for the next one.
:-(

Come now! WHOOooo is responsible for dead battered makeup!? An immaculate body? She was bashed on the head. She was battered several times breaking bones in all parts of her body. Didn't she even get a splinter?! Not to mention the gory battering in that torrential rain, flash flooding her carcus (sp?) against a thousand boulders, sending her so far down stream that the police couldn't recover her...but her relatives could on the following day? NOT ONE BRUise on the body as Juan refused to give her over for burial!?

And yet there was lots of blood for the thorny briar grave scene.???

Nicholas***I haven't read the recap yet, but the title was perfect. I was trying to figure out who Juan reminded me of with all the yelling and grabbing poor little sister...You nailed it...Mighty Joe Young !! Later, Mad Buns Bess/susanlynn

Nicolas: great first recap! Thanks for lending a second male's perspective to our group
===========
Hubby and I lost it when the highway patrol came looking for Juan in a sombrero. We had similar ??? about just leaving the dead girl's body face down in the lagoon like that. // As for depicting dead bodies on screen, the director must have been forced to put some Uni exec's kid nephew in charge. I kept asking my t.v. if anybody at Uni ever heard of "rigor mortis" (from Wikepedia)-- R.M. begins to manifest after about 3 hours after death, and lasts about 72 hours. I believe Libia's body should have been stiff and her lips should have been bluish. Ah well. I guess CSI isn't shown south of the border.

Thanks, Nicholas. About the brothers extreme reactions to their sister. They are way over the top , but the strong emotions might be a cultural thing. A few years ago , I had 4 brothers and their baby sister [who was absolutely gorgeous] from Colombia. She invied Hub and I to her wedding, and at the reception, all the brothers were weeping . All-American-Guy Hub was amazed and asked what was up with the brothers . So, maybe it is a cultural thing, especially when there are several brothers and only one younger sister. Julie***I, too, noticed Franco poke poor sis right in the eye. Do you think that Sherlyn got hazard pay for getting poked in the eye having to let Eduardo carry her around and having all three maul her supposedly lifeless body ??? I hope so. You really have to be trusting to be an actress in these novelas what with the sex scenes and the death scenes. You can't push people away , and say ''Hey, Buddy, get your hand off my [fill-in-thw-blank] or ''Ouch, get your fingers out of my eyeball, Stupid.'' Also, I hope that she read the script and realized how limited her role would be...2 episodes. And, I also noticed that Pablo seemed to take clues for his own reactions from the other two hombres. When Oscar looked up to heaven...so did Franco. When Juan threw back his head ,opened his mouth ,and bellowed , we saw the same reaction from Franco. Well, we've had 2 deaths and 2 funerals already , so hopefully the crying, yelling, moaning will ease up as we move onto the lying, fighting, and kissing....Ojala.

Thanks everyone for your positive, funny comments. So I think we all agree that the waterfall/Libia scene was ridiculously questionable… Eve--I did a little research on esmas.com and from what I can gather, Juan is the oldest, followed by Oscar, and then the “baby,” Franco. However, I do know for sure that Sofia is the oldest, then Sarita, and then Jimena. Apparently Sarita was supposed to be a boy and, “that’s why she is so masculine.” Also, beckster, I thought that the bit about the hats for each region was very interesting. I guess the Reyes brothers are really important because their hats are so big! Jardinera—you are so right about CSI south of the border!

Nick: Welcome and thanks for a great recap.

Likewise, I though the death scenes and actions of the three brothers were ridiculous and funny. And, I have no guilt for thinking that. This is drama gone awry.

Also, they buried Libia in a cave. Haven't they heard of consecreted ground?

I guess we're going to have to put our fantasy caps on to live through this. But, EY, is OK with me. Oscar and Franco are expressionless.

The three sisters - not exactly teenagers. Haven't these people ever heard of getting a job?

Welcome, Nicolas! Great recap!

I also wondered why the cops just left her in the water for her brothers to retrieve. What was the point of that?

This novela is so OTT so far, I'm really enjoying it. However, I don't understand what the pacing is going to be like. We know what happens--the brothers decide to get revenge by seducing and abandoning the three sisters, but they end up falling in love with them. How can this be interesting for 180+ more episodes? We shall see, I guess. I just think it's odd they crammed so much action into the first two episodes.

I find Oscar very attractive, so he alone will hold my interest for a while. ;-)

Susanna J.

Welcome, Nicolas! Great, recap! Where to start? This TN is a real ride, but I've about had it with Rodrigo- oops- Juan and his anguish scenes. He reminds me of when we college roomates would laugh at Capt Kirk and his intense pain scenes in the original Star Trek. Yeah, what's with the cops leaving a corpse in the drink, and no investigation into a suspicious death?!?! They just give the body over to the family, and let them bury it, in a cave yet, on whose land, etc, etc. Perfect place for a murder. ( did I see "redrum redrum" on the cave wall scrawled in charcoal?)...we are going to have sooo much fun with this TN if these initial episodes are an indicator

Thanks Nick for the recap and the wit. The show up to now does not seem to have much wit. BUT I love the hats! Gee, 4 hundred... a thing of beauty I shall never own. Besides who could see around or above me in church. Or even sit beside me?

Oh yeah, I enjoyed the 'ova the top' crazy performance by Juan. That looked well done. Glad Mighty Joe didn't toss his brothers around.

Pasofino, I remember in Desti we all were wondering about why none of the Montalvo women were working. Even when family fortune dissapeared. May be if you are born into the riches and you are the woman - you don't work.

Also I was surprised how unnatural was almost every scene so far, even in the cantina. In Destilando and in beloved Pasion everything that was happening was much more believable.

Great recap, Nicolas! Well, Juan was a little too dramatic carrying Libia around the room. How she didn't crack up is beyond me!

I am really, reaaaaallllly going to try and stick this one out, but right now my mom and I are a little disappointed, to say the least. At least the recaps are very enjoyable to read!

See why I call Gaby Bitterella shes bitter and everything she says comes back to bite her.
Libia had no problem going out in the dark last night lol,
Loved the details in this recap.
Franco is the lazy one as i rember reading, in the summary I read he was so lazy that in that around the second ep or third ep Oscar was talking about how he was selling him to a few woman to sleep with cause he was awful at makeing money . And well that doesnt happen in this one.
In the part where gramps was being taken away i must share and say a fun detail of what they said in PDG if not that the first of this show and it went something like this
from Las Aguas Mansas Summary 8 by Ixchel
Sofia wipes her tears away & tells her mom:
"for the moment there is nothing I can do to stop you from taking him away. When people get old, we have to put them away so that they won't bother us. The same is going to happen to you, mom. The years go by very fast, mom & in a day not far away you'll be as old and as incapacitated as grampa & when that happens, my sisters & I will imitate you & we will throw you in an asylum for old people so that you won't bother us or make our lives a living hell. We will learn your lesson very well, mom!" (was that a great come back or what??) Gaby remains speechless, her lip quivers, she doesn't say a word, and she walks away.

About the cave burial: My trivia/trivial memory brings up there were times and cultures that used caves much like the tradition now of burial crypts. Logically the storms and floods would not unearth their bodies.
I imagine the thorny briar was placed over the grave to discourage animals for the obvious reasons. But in this tn it is illogical to drizzle blood all over the briar and attract any animal with a nose! So my logic must be faulty. ?.

I hope all you recappers know how much you are appreciated. I don't think I would watch these telenovelas if I didn't have the recaps to look forward to. Wish I could join in, but y'all are too tough an act to follow.I also was curious as to the burial laws in Mexico. Surely you can't just bury someone wherever you dang well please can you? I really try to get into these tv novelas, but sometimes the errors are so obvious it's like they aren't even trying to make them believable. I guess this one will just be enjoyed for the scenery and laughs.

Libia is not dead! I've just watched through the first commercial break and she was in a T-Mobile commercial! So not only did she survive but she's got a cool cell phone! Its's a miracle!

Anonymous: Thanks for another laugh.

Ok. I'm the Anon above. I'm 40 minutes in. Can't wait to finish and read the recap. What the hell is One Brain Cell (Juan) doing caressing his dead sister in her bedroom. Don't they have coroners? What the hell is he doing with her body? And why is she not bruised, blue/white and stiff? Oh, I forgot, she's not really dead.

I thought you guys were being too hard on this show two days in but this is really creepy!

I don't remember Bern telling FeoNando that he knew he had raped Sofia. All I remember is him telling him that he was going to do whatever necessary to see that his daughter's marriage to him was annulled. That he used the term "annulled" rather than divorced suggests that he knew that they hadn't consumated the marraige, and I guess I missed the part where Sofia had told him that. They were close though, and it was obvious that she wasn't happy.

As for the rigor--all bets are off. She was in water, probably cold water. Could have delayed the rigor. Not that I think the writers knew that or put it in the show.

Also--I thought the bloody briar scene was some kind of blood oath of vengeance, not anti-animal security for the grave. I thought you were just supposed to cut your palms with a knife and shake hands (to mix the blood) but maybe this is the Jalisco-telenovela version.

Great job, Nicolas!
When they were burying little Libia in the cave I wondered if it was because the authorities thought she had committed suicide and couln't be buried in consecrated ground.
Also, someone asked if Gabriela was the same nasty as Rita in Pasion (ummmmm, thoughts of Ricardo) and she is. Makes a good villian, doesn't she?

I see, blood oath! Thanks Margaret.
The thorn briar was the animal repellant and even traditions that carved stones above the tumb did images of thorn bushes or vines. These could have been religious references to "crown of thorns". Except, from what I'm reading, achaeological findings are all over the globe. And even predate J...C...

Ok. 58 minutes in. Maybe this will be explained when I read the recap. Why are these guys self-mutilating by twisting thorny vines or organic barbed wire or what ever it is? And, I'm not trying to be funny here. Can you just bury people in random places in Mexico? Maybe you can do it here in the states and I just don't know about it? Creepier and creepier!

I agree with Anon 11:45 - more I think about what was happening there - creepier it gets!
And what about suicide - how the police could've determine anything if the body wasn't even moved?
I don't know, I probably will give a chance to see the romance part - may be it will get better. One can only hope!

Eve from Cleveland

By the way, how many of you guys turned your back to Juan Querendon after the first few episodes ( I did) or to Diabolos ( never even watched it).

Eve from Cleveland

Thanks for giving more info about that conversation between Feon and Bern, Margaret. I do remember him saying something about consummation. (Now I'm really mad I didn't pay more attention!)

Alice, Gabriela is absolutely not Rita. Rita is played by an actress named Maite who is younger than me. Gabriela is played by Diana Bracho, an older, more experienced, and much better-known actress.

I can see the resemblance, though - while we usually speak of people having the same smile, in this case you could say they have the same scowl. ;-D

Eve - I gave up on Juan Q mostly because the move to 7:00 put it out of the running for me.

However, I'm starting to get pulled into Guapos.

Hey about the body thing, I do know this, when my mother-in-law died in Mexico City, she had to be embalmed and so on and so forth and she was taken to Guererro in a herse (sp?).

Anyway years before, years before I knew my husband, his father wandered off to Mx City for a leukemia treatment, never showed up back at the ranch and one of the kids was sent to find him. After searching numerous Free hospitals, they found him in a coma. They were told to take him to the ranch cause he was going to die anyway and if they waited they would have to pay for transportation. No there was no embalming, but my husband says you always bury within 24 hours. (yeah the heat and so on). That was like the late 70's, also no phones and no electricity.

But this place is really rural, the town in the TeleNovela story has a hooter bar and let me tell you, you'd have to go a far piece to find hooters like that in Arroyo Grande.

I can see how the authorities may have assumed from witness accounts that Libia committed suicide. She shows up distraught at a guy's funeral then runs out/is kicked out and goes to a river in a rainstorm. Also--given the lack of bruises (implausible, given the beating that Feonando gave her and even suprising given the rocks, etc.) it certainly looks like she drowned and that she intended to do so.

Alice, Actually Rita of Pasion is Maite Embil and Gabriela in Fuego en la Sangre is the very famous Diana Bracho. They do look a lot alike in their very sour range of expressions, all negative ones, don't they.

Aw, Lawd Ha' Mercy! This is so funny!!! I've seen the show and read recaps from day one and I was going to post something dripping with righteous indignation about you guys being too hard on this show and that your sarcasm is over the top, etc. But, I can't stop laughing!! I don't know who Oscar (the actor) is but he's been seriously getting in his brother's face from day one. The recapper even said it looked like they were about to share a hot, angry kiss. Well, he got that and so much more rolling around on the floor with the anguised One(brain cell). I never saw so much yelling, screaming, roaring. And Libia. There are a lot of living chicks who would like to be that soft and supple right now, even her panty-clad bottom looked still firm and fully packed. This is hilarious!! After all this pissin and moanin, these guys are going to go sleep with the enemy?

And Gabriela and Fernasty, total yu-uck! The grief and insinuations of unchaste liasons is pornographic and laughable. This can only get better!!

By the way, what the h-ll is going on between Feo and Gabi - he is the only her confidant? Did she arrange what happened to her daughter as well? Very strange. And the comment ( I think from the 2nd episode) "I'm married to the woman as beautiful as you" - no way it will be turned to evil union between those two - it would be - bleah... But looks like it's going somewhere.

Eve from Cleveland

I think Feonando is just her confidant. Or at least her ally. He pretends to understand her, and she obviously appreciates that. It's a powerful position for him to be in, since no one else can stand her. (Sarita tries to please her, but I think she's just as confused by her as everyone else is.

I doubt that Gab had anything to do with Sofi getting raped. If anything, her reaction seems to be that Sofi's rape was a terribly embarrassing inconvenience for Gabriela herself, a problem she had to fix by marrying Sofi off immediately to the first polite boy show showed up.

Anon of "Aw, Lawd Ha' Mercy" You are so funny! Thank you! I was feeling righteous indignation about Fuego's bad makeup technician, etc. But you have pointed out 'the One (brain cell) lead, the enviable 'living chicks who would like to be that soft and supple right now panty-clad bottom ...still firm and fully packed' You have led me to the light!
This is a comedy!!! A comedy with- out- a- doubt. ! (Wonder when the sponsors will find out.)

Yellow Pages Ad: Reyes Brothers' Bakery/Funeral Home .... we bake em & bury em.

Sorry, too sick. But this telenovela is weird.

However, I really wouldn't mind growing up in a bakery.

I was wondering that to, why no bruises, The other one the brothers knew that Libia killed herself. But there was nothing said about what happened to her to the brothers in this one.

Thanks for an excellent "well said" recap. Like some of you, I had mixed feelings about comments made about the first 2 episodes. On the one hand I felt viewers were belly aching and being too judgmental too soon. On the otherhand, I'm glad that Juan/Rod's fans (I'm one) can mock his ridiculous behavior. In Pasion, Ric's female fans were so love struck and biased until if anyone dared say anything negative about him they were reprimanded in the comments. In fact, I think one reason that Juan is shirtless is because the producers thought it would have the same effect as the insane swooning whenever Ric or his crew bared their chest. What's the difference?

Love the novela the recap and the comments that both are generating. Mine is short because I like all the comments and anything I'd add has already been said. If we gave a prize to the person who made the best comment of the day, I'd vote for Anon 12:22 "after all this pissin and moaning these guys are going to go sleep with the enemy". Like someone else said, not that they have told us the whole story, where do we go from here?

A comedy, yes! yes! Now that the telenovela has been clasified, I can enjoy it for what it is and not stew about these crazies.
"Bake em and bury em" ..great. The brotherly hug fest complete with matching rain ponchos and sombreros was a totally laugh out loud moment. Come to think of it there were so many laugh out loud moments.

We probably should cut Gab some slack. She was married to a womanizer, is trying/tried to protect her daughters from the likes of him and all the while has to listen to how wonderful "papa" is/was. The bitterness came with the years. Shed those mourning clothes!

Anon 1:38 - Ric didn't have to bare his chest to get all the moaning and swooning - he was just perfect with or without clothes! Though - it was a bonus to have a glimps of his - or Ascanioooo naked ( or almost) bodies. Remember - nobody commented on Vasco's great body because he was half-naked all the time.
EJ has a great body and I actually liked him in Desti but it's too much and too bare for the first 3 of 190 episodes to stay half naked and - bake bread???
It's getting sick!

Loved "Yellow Pages Ad: Reyes Brothers' Bakery/Funeral" LOL

Hey, y'all are all too funny. I think I'm going to try to hang with this but, does anyone know when Tontas comes on? If I try to do two prime time novelas, hubby may start protesting.

And to Gaby's defender, if she was getting her taco shells filled now and then, she wouldn't be so miserable. Ole Bernardo was good enough to satisfy a barely legal Lidia (by the way, Onebraincell holding the doll just made the relationship with el viejo evenworse) it could give ole Gaby a different outlook on life!

I am under the impression that no matter how harsh Gabby is, she could not have set up her daughter's rape. It would be unbelievably/can't-stand-watching- it cruel. About Gabby and FerNo (I can't remember who came up with this, but it's also very clever), I think that she would be too ashamed to start a relationship with her son-in-law. She was ashamed when her own daughter was raped(!)so I can imagine how she would feel if someone found out about her hypothetical affair with FerNO.

I looove Oscar (Jorge Salinas). He 's hot!

I think Tontas starts some time in June, when Juan ends. That means it will be in the first time slot.

I wonder if they will swap the schedule around if it does well, though. Juan Q started off in the middle time slot, but got moved when it wasn't doing well. (I don't know if Amar did any better in the middle slot, though.)

Since the main plot of this novela hasn't really kicked in yet, I'm still holding out some hope. Even though the first three episodes have been increasingly bad, IMO, it's reasonable to expect things to get better once the story gets going and the characters begin doing their thing(s).

On the other hand, Bern the walking now defunct old guy may have been TOO busy to seduce, no, make love to his wife. I bet there was something with Ava.
That kind of neglect and rejection must have been demoralizing for Gaby. So she shut off feelings. Having said that in her defense I take the other side now. Gaby always had options. Take up a garden and or gardner. Express love in other ways not so romatisized like her children and her father.
I guess she was not very wise to begin with. So its not unusual she would make a snake her friend.

From the last conversation Gaby had with the defunct old guy, when he talked about surrendering and giving oneself to one's husband, she was like ewwww, that's icky and beneath the grand mujer that I am. At least that's what I got out of it. So she probably just bore it the three times to be able to bear the kids. And three strike outs (no varon), she was probably like, ok, cookie jar closed for business.

And, from the way Eva was making moves on that jacket, I think she has indeed done similar when he was in said jacket. She also was too enthralled with that little kiss on the cheek he gave her that day. I think ole Bernardo had it goin' on!

Bonnie Churros***Haha... That was good advice for Gab...''Take up a garden or a gardener.'' We've got to give this show a chance . I'll keep watching just for Eduardo, but I hope the storyline improves. We already know from the promos that Juan [aka Mighty Joe Young..a perfect nickname for my big linebacker] will become Sofia's protector against FerNO. I suppose Gab will spend a lot of her time trying to keep the boys away from the girls.

What I thought has already been said. Girl bashed multiple times with very large stick and the crime scene boys don't notice anything. More egregious Yáñez overacting. So far the only tolerable character is Gramps. Hope he puts on that tricorn hat again very soon!

And a generic novela gripe: what's with all the stubble? It's especially noticeable in the modern novelas. Practically every guy has a one or two day stubble. The galan in Victoria hasn't been clean shaven since day one. One good part of this Fuego overacting fest is Jorge Salinas shaves! Is this supposed to be demonstrating their masculinity? They're going to needs lots and lots of pancake makeup to cover up the facial irritations of the two gals who will have kissing scenes with these jokers. Mind you, I like beards and moustaches. It's the dern stubble that bugs me.

As we all know this Fuego came from Pasion de Gavilanes.
Here is the begining part of PDG that looks very similar to Fuego.

http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x1hfqw_pasion-de-gavilanes_family

Wow, they brothers a really good looking and young ( all of them). I don't mind seeing them barechested at all. And they much more animated then our 2 brothers.

Eve from Cleveland

When Gaby rejected her filandering husband I thought it was about her self-esteem. He wasn't saying anything remotely like I have always loved you and desired you.
Too bad she couldn't go public and announce not only do I consider myself a strong moral woman but I won't share the bed several of you share with him. STD's you know.
And it must have been common knowledge because the woman that talked with Liby said 'I thought you knew'.

Bonney, I think it was ( is ) OK for the reach guy to have a poor young girl on a side so this "market" woman thought of Libby as the "call girl" - who knew that they were really in love ( so hard to believe though!)

Eve from Cleveland

Bonney Churros, I did not get the impression that Bernardo was a philandering husband. I thought he was telling Gabriela that her coldness and complete lack of response in bed had driven him away from her emotionally years before. It remains to be seen if there was anything between Eva and Bernardo. It's possible she was madly in love with him for years but he never returned her feelings. There hasn't been any evidence of an affair between them.

From what I've seen so far, I came away with the impression that Bernardo genuinely loved Libia and that she may have been his only amante ever. Granted, he didn't have the guts to tell her he was married, but from what he told Fernasty, he was planning to leave his wife.

Woops, I mean rich guy!

You are correct, anon 2:40 - he complained to Gaby something like he couldn't even remember the last time they'd been intimate. She told him not to be indecent and I think she said there were "more important things," and he said something like it was one of the most important parts of a marriage.

He said he was done with their marriage, or that he wanted a separation or something, but she said she wouldn't allow it. (With her amazing powers over time and space??)

Earlier I had assumed he meant a divorce so he could marry Libi, but now I think probably not because it would have meant going to court and having Libi's name getting dragged through the mud.

In any case I'm pretty sure the Reyes brothers wouldn't have been very happy with him at all.

I hope I can stick with this one. So far it is horrenda!!! So over the top. I had to turn my TV to mute last night just to get through the episode. The crying and screaming was way too much for me. I loved Destilando and Pasion so I was really looking forward to this one, but boy it better change and fast!!
Trudi

Anon maybe you were right the first time? At his age it could have been a "reach". Then too, he covered his bases by reaching for that young inexperienced mate.
Just kidding!!!

Nicolas, you are a riot! Mighty Joe young indeed. Great title, great recap. It's marvelous to have you as a recapper.

Tres hermanos, tres sombreros grandes, uno brain cell under those hats. Who does it belong to? Juan, too emotional, Franco, well he's Pablo, so maybe Oscar, he's seems to be a schemer.

I do like this telenovela cause like Juan(Eduardo), it's on a grand scale and pure entertainment. It takes nerve to do that because it's on the edge of ridiculous. Okay, so it's crossed the line.

Julie and Cherylnewmex,
Thanks for clearing up the confusion about Gabriela. They look so much alike to me, that I didn't bother to check the cast names. They are certainly two mean cats.....
I'm waiting for Juan to go courtin'
so he takes a shower, shaves and looks charming with or without a shirt. He's one handsome dude.

Nicolas, thanks for the recap and your good rundown of the conversations.
I appreciated the suggestion of using the mute button to survive the howling that takes place. Also loved the "We bake 'em and bury 'em" idea.
I'm certainly willing to watch this as a comedy, since that's the only way I think I can stand it. Someone turned the Angst-O-Meter way up high on this one. The screaming in place of dialog, the insane clutching and stroking of dead bodies, the creepy complicity between suegra and Feonando, is a little overdone.
I do owe an apology for referring to Grandpa (rolling older guy) as crazy. I shall now refer to him as crazy-like-a-fox or wacky grandpa. Loved his gun with the "bang" flag. So glad he survived his daughter's evil plot.
I'm going to start watching "Rubi" at noon, and follow Bloody Dough through the recaps and sampler viewing. Maybe it'll get better.
La Paloma

There are lots of comments for this novella, so it seems lots of you are watching too.
All I am going to say that the show needs a good editor. To anyone that commented about the cops not touching the body of Libia and about her hair not being all messed up and such after fighting with Fernando. Like I said, they need a good editor for this show. Anyone?
I will guess or bet that Fernando who raped Sofia. He wanted her along. You could see that he is a women abuser.

Thanks for signing up to recap, Nicolas, and for your great debut!

What's with these 3 brothers always in some kind of hug or wrestling match with one another? Too much.

I noticed the doll on Libia's casket, that really was touching. Of course, Lis' dolls in Pasion were much nicer, but then, she was from the "upper classs".

So much scenery chewing by E. Yanez so far - you'd think he'd be embarrassed. I'm embarrassed for him.
I was waiting for Miss Melanie to come in and talk Juan into letting Libia get buried, even though she (Libia) was afraid of the dark.
I swear they lifted that scene from GWTW.

I hope tonight's episode skips the 10 minute rehash of last night. Are they already running out of ideas to fill 190 (egad!) hours??

Well, h*ll, I meant "class", not "classs" in referring to Lis.
Or did I really??

Are the three brothers wearing sombreros to collect rain water for the bakery?

Let's hope the number of episodios is 80 something since the ones in Mexico are 1/2 hr. long and in the U.S. they're 1 hr. long.

Thank you thank you thank you thank you Jardinera! I really do hope they were all 1/2 hour in Mexico!

Although, sometimes they're 1/2 hour for only the first and/or last few weeks...

Anyway, while I don't actually hate this show yet, and I'm sure I can find some way to enjoy it, somehow I can't imagine wanting it to go on for 38 weeks.

Thanks for the clear recap, Nicola.
It was a big help.

Some people are suggesting that Feonando raped Sofia. Wouldn't she know if he was her rapist? Don't tell me he wore a ski mask...although it wouldn't surprise me with all the wierdness of last night's show.

When Grampa was wearing the military outfit, it definitely looked like a leftover from Pasion; the ones that the soldiers who showed up at the end wore. I loved the gun that went "bang."
But this show is really going to have to make up it's mind about whether it's a comedy, drama, or tragedy!

I'm hanging in and hoping that this settles down and becomes more realistic.
NJ SUE

Hmm - I know Colombia often does half hour episodes, but I'm afraid (be very afraid!) that Televisa often does hour episodes for broadcasting in Mexico (don't they do half hour mostly during the overlap when finishing up one novela and trying to hook people on the new one?). I have no idea how they'll fill up 180+ hours if that's the case, especially given I read some of the English summaries for "Las Aguas Mansas," and events that unfolded over 2 weeks in the original, were already over and done with in the first two episodes of Fire-ants in the Pants...

And Anya - you nailed it; I too was expecting Miss Melanie to pop in any minute! That "she's afraid of the dark" thing clinched it...

Ha, speaking of mistaking one actor for another, I really thought that Libi's friend at the market was also Ofelia on Destilando Amor, but when other people said they recognized her from something else, I looked her up. I was way wrong!

Feonando/Gabriela: there is definitely some intimacy brewing there, the question is how soon will it boil over? I think F will get complete control over her, then betry her when she is completely at his mercy. Her character reminds me over the evil Vallodid widow on Barrera who eventually burned in a fire. I see some foreshadowing of a dark, Gothic ending for her.

On a lighter note, thankfully Oscar's character looks a little like Clive Owen.

Hortensia (Isaura Espinoza) was Blanca on Duelo and Isela on Amar. Somebody said she was in Alborada too but I didn't see that one.

The woman who played Ofelia (Rocío Banquells) on Pasion is half sister in real life to Silvia Pasquel who plays Nidia on Juan Querendon.

Loved your recap Nicolas, welcome.I look forward to reading more.
Kim P.

I was referring to Ofelia in Destilando Amor. I know she wasn't Ofelia in Pasion!

You guys are killing me. All the recappers are great.I may just have to break down and watch Fiery Blood.
I nominate Ferdie for an extra name for the rapist/husband.mhm

I'm a day behind (as usual) - Nicolas you cracked me up with the Mighty Joe Young and some of your other comments.

I'm glad to know I wasnt imaging these guys trying to work up the tears - it kind of reminded me when a kid is pretending to cry and squeezing the eyes so a tear will fall. ha ha

Nicolás, welcome to the group! We are so glad you’re here! Ferro was holding down the fort for guy recappers for a long time, and I bet he’s glad to have the company. Great maiden voyage recap, stellar summary--thanks!

“This telenovela re-played twelve minutes of yesterday’s episode!” Yes, Nick, this is our blessing and curse. It’s a blessing for recappers and a curse for viewers. It’s a Univision trademark, not-so-instant replay.

“Apparently he has a supernatural bond to Libia and feels the pain that she feels as she is being beaten to death by Fernando.” LOL! Seems they all have those supernatural bonds.

“uan is out in the rain again. How did they find plastic coverings for those hats? I didn’t think that anyone serious even wore those things nowadays.” LOL! It’s telenovelaland—they probably want us to think this place is lost in a time warp like in Duelo de Pasiones.

“Question: If the police knew about the body last night, why did they just leave it there for someone else to find? “ Yep, interesting how the policia found Libia in the lagoon and didn’t touch her until the boys could come down and ID her. Very odd, that, I think.
