Fuego En La Sangre, 06/13/08: The Great Escape x 2

Fernando walks outside the gate in the moonlight with Rosendo and the other ranch hands and says there is somebody on the grounds of the hacienda and they’ve got to find him, so get a move on! (For all Feo’s faults, you got to love the classy way the guy chews on a cheroot!)

Eva is still at the Bad Love Bar waiting outside Rosario’s dressing room (note the BIG shiny star on the door) and hoping to get a chance to tell her she thinks she’s her long lost mother. Rosario rushes out and tells Eva she’s in a hurry and to leave her alone. They have nothing to discuss. As Rosario races upstairs to get on stage we see that Armando, with his rug now firmly in its place back on his head, has been spying on the two of them while evilly puffing on his cigarillo. Eva goes back upstairs and watches Rosario’s booty-shaking act a couple of minutes, and then, because of the song, the singing, the crappy backup broads, or maybe just the sheer shame of seeing her daughter forced to strut and bounce her backside and her basketball bazoombas nightly in front of a bunch of horny drunks, she winces before deciding to finally leave.

Rosendo, rifle in hand, tells Fernando that the men looked through all the pastures but they found nobody there and wonders if Feo really heard a horse whinny. Fernando yells of course! There’s definitely someone on the grounds. From the shadows Juan whistles for Capricho and they start walking towards the sound. Suddenly they see a horse and a faceless rider (our Juan) galloping past them. Feo grabs Rosendo’s rifle and begins shooting at the rider. He shoots three or four times but luckily misses Juan who manages to barely escape from the hacienda.

Fernando asks Rosendo if he got a look at the rider, but Rosendo says he was caught by surprise and didn’t get a chance to see. Fer says that from now on, every night, one of them is to stand watch. He shoves the gun angrily in Rosendo’s stupefied face and walks back inside the house. Rosendo, obviously not looking forward to working an unexpected graveyard shift, looks over at the others like he doesn’t get paid nearly enough to put up with this guy’s b.s. attitude.

Inside the hacienda Gabi and the two younger sisters (both pretty in pink, especially Jimena wearing a hair bow so we are sure to remember that these two actresses are playing characters 10 years younger than they actually are) wake up from the commotion and run into the landing. They think they’ve heard shooting and immediately they run to Sofia’s bedroom to check on her. All are impactada to see that Sophia (after that rufie-tea NoneFer gave her) has slept through the entire thing. Gabriela gives a big harrumph because Sofia is so sound asleep. “Nothing around this house seems to interest her!” Sarita, though, thinks it’s odd Sofia didn’t wake up and Jimena says she’s been feeling badly recently and convinces Mama to leave her sleep, though Mama still thinks it’s all a bunch of malarkey.

Outside Sofia’s room Gabi yells over to Fernando and asks who was shooting. He explains he was and tells them they had an intruder. She complains and says now they’ll have to start locking the gates. Feo gallantly offers to stay the night with Sofia but Gabi thinks Sofia is only trying to grab attention for herself, and she forbids anyone to stay through the night to watch over her. Everyone heads off to bed and it’s none fer Nando again.

Jimena visits Sarita a bit later and tells her that she saw Franco and her kissing each other. Sarita has no idea why she did it, but Jimena says Sarita loves Franco even though she refuses to admit it. Sarita says even if she's right, Franco is still in love with another woman. Jimena persuades her to drop the prude-‘tude of a no-fun-nun and suggests she start to fight to win him away by using the same female charms as Rosario.
==========

Juan is all charged up and smiling after getting to spend time whispering sweet nothings in Sofia’s ear earlier. At the stable he tells his horse (why doesn’t this guy ever have a best bud to talk to?) that he is worried that Sofia seems to be sick.
===============

The next morning Oscar is telling Franco he’s really anxious to get married. Franco says he has no intention of getting married because he’s still going crazy over his two women and wondering which one of them to pick. Juan is off talking to his horse, uh-gain, about Sofia and how really pretty and so caressably cuddly she looked the night before. Capricho doesn’t mind ‘cuz at least he’s getting a good bath and probably a couple of carrots out of the deal.

At the hacienda Eva comes in to wake up Sofia. Sofia slowly opens her eyes and says she doesn’t know why she is still so sleepy. Excitedly she tells Eva that she dreamed that Juan was there last night talking to her, and that he kissed her and told her over and over that he loved her. (When the guy you dream about kissing you looks like Eduardo Yañez, I figure there’s plenty of reason to stay stuck in the sheets a while longer, pondering the possibilities.)

Back in town the Reyes Brothers come to the church for mass. Padre Tadeo turns around and smiles when he sees them. Of course, Tadeo can’t help but notice since Juan has come in wearing those jingling jangling spurs of his and they jingle-jangle all the way down the aisle to the altar. (Yeah I suppose they’re sexy, but it sort makes you of wonder if the women in the back pew rolled their eyes because of the noise or because there was more than a whiff of horse puckey on them when he came in.) Each brother asks for their own brand of help from the Almighty in their pursuit of Luh-h-h-v-v: Juan asks to be forgiven for speaking so harshly to Sofia before and he asks that their love might triumph; Oscar wants his love for Jimena to be blessed and the Lord’s protection for the two of them; Franco wants to know who he’s supposed to choose, but he doesn’t want to hurt either Sarita or Rosario because he loves them both equally despite the fact no one believes him.

After church the Reyes brothers apparently have headed over to the police station. All of a sudden they’re there getting the forensics report from the sheriff. Juan reads through it and sees that it notes that when Libia’s body was handed over to them she had suffered a head injury. The sheriff said they believed that it came from her slipping and falling into the water, but Juan disagrees and says he believes Libia could have been clubbed in the head instead.

In front of her market Hortensia tells Quintina about the night she drove Libia to Don Bernardo’s wake. She says the girl was hurt and felt deceived because she never knew Bernardo Elizondo was married, and to find out he was dead on top of everything else doubled her pain. The worst part was, though, the way his widow surely mistreated and humiliated her. When she came out of the house Libia was acting all crazy and distracted.

In the meantime, the three brothers go back to the river to investigate a bit more about how Libia might have died. Juan says that the river is too shallow there for LIbia to have drowned, but Oscar says to remember it had been raining a lot and would have gotten much deeper. Franco says that it would have been muddy and slippery too. Juan answers that it could be, but then it might not. So Franco asks if they killed her then why and what for? After a bit of discussion they determine that if the Elizondo’s knew she was pregnant that it wouldn’t suit them to have the baby live, particularly if it was a boy (because, as they forget to remind us, Gabriela and eventually Sofia/Feo would lose half the inheritance and properties Bernardo left the family if his lover had a son). The Reyes’ agree that this could be reason enough to want to get rid of their sister permanently.

Back in the bakery Don Augustin tells Quintina about Bernardo and the young girl he fell in love with. He says it was painful to see her at the wake and to watch, helpless in his wheelchair, at the way his daughter mistreated her. He tells her then that he would like to find out if Libia had a family. Quintina gets nervous when she hears this and stutters a bit then says she’s certain she was an orphan. Juan comes back about then and after rushing a greeting to him she races off.

Juan tells Augie that he believes Sofia is sick. Pablito shows up for a visit and Juan shows him how to make bread, creatively using pieces of the dough to teach him how to read. Franco comes in and since Juan needs to take care of deliveries to the convent he has Franco teach Pablito a bit more of the alphabet.

In another room Augie is telling Quintina that he’s worried about Sofia because she’s gotten sick. Quintina offers to take him back to the hacienda in Hortensia’s truck to visit her. Since he’s itching for a reason to tie Gabi in knots again he says fine and they head out.

A bit later Augie arrives at the hacienda dressed (miraculously) as a bull-fighter and chases Gabriela around like she’s the bull when she comes downstairs all fake smiles to “greet” him. She becomes enraged when, afterwards, he pointedly tells her that he refuses to sign any documents, which means there’s no milking the cash cow for her and Feo.

As Franco and Pablito go over vowels, Pablito mentions that while he was hiding nearby he saw the man from the fair who hit him. The man, he says, is keeping a little friend of his locked up in a shack nearby and they beat the little boy a lot.
=================

At the hacienda Sofia cheers up when she sees her granddad dressed up in another one of his crazy costumes. He tells her that what he wants most is to see her happy, and that she made the wrong decision to return, but that there is still time to put things right. Sofia isn’t quite sure she understands him.
================

Franco has Pablito take him to the little shack where Luis is being held. He realizes the boy is Rosario’s son. He approaches the old woman just as she’s about to hit Luis again and scolds her for hitting a child. Suddenly Armando drives up, gets out, and asks him what he’s doing there. Franco, thinking it’s Armando’s kid, asks him what kind of coward allows somebody to beat his own child.

That night back at the bar, Armando tells Fernando that somehow Franco found the shack and now knows where they’re hiding Rosario’s child. Armando says Franco thinks it’s his and he didn’t bother to tell him otherwise. Eva’s also been hanging around looking for Rosario and now that Franco knows where the child is, they better put a stop to all of this or there’ll be Hell to pay.

Fernando finds Rosario in her dressing room, throws her around and then threatens to kill Luis if she ever gets near Eva or Franco again.
===========

Franco tells Oscar what he learned about Rosario’s son and says he can’t believe she’d ever allow such a thing. Oscar advises him to remember what Juan told him about mothers and to ask Rosario herself what’s going on.

Sofia is back in bed again and an attentive NoneFer Nando brings her some more of his bedtime rufie-tea. (The way this guy always likes to knock a person out first makes you wonder that if, along with a bit of incest, necrophilia isn’t also one of his many endearing charms.) As He-Man leaves Sofia’s room he thinks to himself that tonight absolutely nothing is going to stop him from ravaging her. However, unbeknownst to Nonefer, Sofia drops the cup on the floor before she can drink any of the tea. She looks down at the broken cup and starts thinking dreamily of Juan and smiles. She lies down on the pillow and immediately falls asleep. (Ok. So am I being anal or was anybody else going nuts because she totally ignored the obviously nasty mess on the floor??? As the hubster put it to me so delicately at the end of that scene, “The girl may be pretty and sexy, but there are just some things a guy can’t overlook. Is Juan really sure he wants to be married to a slob like that?”)

Outside Sofia’s balcony, meanwhile, Juan is getting ready to climb the rope and sneak into her bedroom. Jimena comes out and notices him. Just then Rosendo comes outside. Jimena makes a quick save by telling Rosendo that she’s left her purse in the stables somewhere and sending him off to look for it.

Above her Juan has entered Sofia’s bedroom. (Good thing he’s still wearing his boots.) He strokes Sofia’s hair and face and then kisses her. Sofia eventually wakes up and they make love while Jimena stands guard at the bottom of the grand stairway inside the house. Rosendo comes inside to tell her he couldn’t find the purse. Just then Fernando walks onto the balcony above them and asks him why he’s not out standing guard and tells him to get back outside. Fernando then makes a move toward Sofia’s room but just then Gabi comes out of her bedroom and asks him what’s the matter.

Fernando says he was going to see if he could offer Sofia anything else. Gabi tells him not to bother. As long as Sofia keeps treating him so disrespectfully, she says, he shouldn’t do another thing for her or she’ll just go on humiliating him. He agrees and goes back into his bedroom. Jimena starts breathing again as Gabi shocks her back to reality and tells her to go to bed.

In his own bedroom, the scheming Fernando is now steaming and in full Snidely Whiplash mode, knocking over things and cursing because he’s been foiled again by his meddling old
M-I-L. He calms himself down eventually with the mantra, “When she’s asleep I’ll enter Sofia’s room and she’ll be mine. She’ll be mine and nobody else’s.” Of course, back in Sofia’s bedroom, Juan is the one in Sofia’s bed and HE is the one telling Sofia that she is HIS and only HIS.

Sofia tells Juan never to doubt her and that even though she may be far away from him he’ll always be in her thoughts. They kiss some more and he tells her passionately how much he loves her, that it’s as if he had "fire in his blood."
============

At the Bad Love Bar in Rosario’s dressing room, Ofelia is telling Rosario that Fernando’s threat was just another one of his many and that nothing will probably happen to her son. Rosario says she doesn’t think Ofelia knows what she’s talking about since she has no children and wouldn’t be able to understand the kind of extreme anxiety and fear Rosario now feels knowing that her child is in danger. Ofelia says Rosario is like a daughter to her and the only thing she can advise her is to stay the heck away from Eva and Franco and to just put an end to it all already.

Fernando is standing outside his bedroom door, skulking and sulking, lying in wait for the most opportune moment to sneak into Sofia’s bedroom and make his move. He thinks back to Gabi questioning him about whether he truly loves Sofia or whether this has become an obsession for him because of Sofia’s continual rejection. He thinks to himself, “Of course I don’t love her. Yes, it’s an obsession because I cannot have her, and an obsession that is killing me! “and he begins to squirm around, thinking of how badly he wants her. He spies Eva coming up the stairs and hides from view and then he squirms and skulks some more.

Eva now goes into Jimena’s room to ask about the purse Rosendo was looking for. Jimena admits it was the first thing she could think to say to him since Juan was up in Sofia’s bedroom. Eva stops in her tracks as nervous and impactada as Jimena.

Back in her bed Sofia tells Juan that she wanted to die when she thought that the two of them would never be together. He tells her never to think like that again because he’ll always be there for her. He reminds her that she needs to make a decision because they need to be together if they love each other, but Sofia says she can’t and that she feels trapped because of it. He asks her to run away with him again and tells her he’s not the type to sneak around rather than facing up to things openly and he’s tired of coming in there like a thief in the night to see her. He tells her she’s a courageous woman and she cannot allow their happiness to escape them and says again she needs to make a decision.

In town again in the Reyes’ bedroom, we see Franco and Oscar lying in bed in their tighty and very tidy whities. It seems Franco’s out cold, but Oscar is still up and thinking of how much he loves Jimena, but he admits to himself that he loves her money just as much.

At the same time, Jimena and Eva go downstairs so that Eva can distract Rosendo while Jimena waits to see what’s happening with Fernando and to warn Juan. Fernando is still skulking through the upstairs hallways and now works his way towards Sofia’s bedroom door. Inside Sofia’s room Juan is still trying to talk Sofia into running away with him. Sofia refuses again to abandon her mother. He says he’s abandoning his brothers and he will do it willingly just to be be happy together with her. Suddenly they are startled by a turn on the doorknob of the bedroom door.

Sofia is frightened and worriedly begs Juan to leave before they discover him, but instead of running away Juan would rather confront her family once and for all. She persuades him to go eventually and he shinnies down the rope after (stepping in the mess on the floor and) one last kiss. Jimena anxiously watches from the office doorway as Fernando tries to break open the lock on Sofia’s door.

The noise Fernando’s making wakes up Gabi and she asks him if they’re going to be staying up all night or what. He explains that Sofia’s door is locked from the inside and so he thought somebody must be in her room with her. Jimena quickly sneaks outside to warn Juan.

Outside Juan finds Jimena waiting there for him as he drops down from the rope. She tells him to hurry away before Rosendo gets back and then she shinnies back up the rope to the balcony and runs into Sofia’s bedroom. Sofia is surprised to see Jimena run in from the balcony window and keeps asking her what’s going on. In the confusion Jimena tells her there’s no time to explain, and begs her to just to jump into bed, close her eyes and pretend she’s asleep. Then Jimena musses up her hair, puts on a sleepy look and unlocks the door where Mama and Nonefer Nando are waiting. All they see is Sofia still asleep in her bed and a very sleepy-looking Jimena.

Jimena explains that she must have locked the door without thinking when she came in to check on her sister and then accidentally fell asleep. Fernando takes the opportunity to say he’s worried about Sofia and that he’ll stay with her now. Jimena says no, she’ll stay with her the rest of the night, but first she needs to leave a minute to get her robe. Gabi insists Jimena is right and they all leave together. Jimena shuts the door behind them. Sofia opens her eyes and thanks her lucky stars. Outside Juan rides away thinking to himself that he knows now that Sofia truly loves him and he swears he’ll fight to keep her. At the same time, Sofia, lying in her bed and smiling broadly, whispers to herself. “Juan does love me! Oh, I am sooo happy!”

Thanks for the recap jardinera. Can't wait to watch my VCR tape.

I can't believe you mentioned Snidely Whiplash! I've been thinking about him lately, also, re: Sofia & Fernando and that old joke about the woman who couldn't pay the mortgage, and Snidely offers ... 'himself' or the whip ... and she says, "The whip! The whip!"

Thank you Calamity Cakes for a howlingly funny recap. I also like the Snidely Whiplash reference, prude-'tude, no-fun-nun. uh-gain and Luh-h-h-v-v. There are too many funny lines to mention. This novela is like a sitting duck just waiting for pot shots.

I was surprised Juan did not cut up his feet on the broken cup and saucer. Since the girls do not ever work around the house, Sofia probably thought the maids could clean everything up in the morning and she was anxious to dream of Juan again. Otherwise, who wouldn't clean up that mess on the floor?

Why do I cringe every time I see them touching that dough? No matter where that dough has been, I fear it may end up in a pan.

Will someplace this episode on the sidebar? Thank you.

I also loved your reference to Snidely Whiplash. In fact, I could picture Juan saying, "I'll save you Nell... I mean Sofia!"

I also love how everyone can go up and down those ropes so easily. Who needs a ladder at that hacienda?

Recap is posted.

Thanks, Judy B. My system is locked out.

Thank you for another great recap, Calamity Cakes. Fernando was so funny, twitching around over his Sofía obsession. He looked & acted exactly like I do when there is chocolate in the house.

Jimena looked like she was just standing there waiting for the bus, when she saw Juan rappelling down the rope.

I watched Ofelia's face after reading your recap, and your assessment is spot on, IMO.

Very good recap, thanks alot.

I am sadly dismayed by the lack of chisme in this town. Ah all American let this be a warning to us all, the power of uncontolled nuclear radiation. Lidia, I'm sorry St. Lidia an orphan, trust me these people like every small town are in the know. Already people would be counting the days to see if Sofie is gonna be preggers after the rescue by Juan.

And no one at the hacienda knows that Fer is nailing Ros. As if?

I hope Jimena & Sarita have a secret stash of cash, cause enabling Sarita to be as tempting as Ros, is going to cause some cash and a recovery period. Alas the radiation had a puritanical effect on Sarita while it worked a different way for Ros.

Why did Quintina have her lipstick smeared all over her mouth? Puleeze tell me that she and the old Don aren't an item. I know I heard another boing the night before during some "comic" moment. The silly special effects that pass for comedy are just sad. I watch quite a bit of mexican tv and have actually seen some funny stuff sans crapola.Frankly, the pointed effects are patronizing in the extreme.

Anon. 6/14 7:13pm. Nope, Augie and Quintina aren't an item...yet. As for Quintina's crazy lipstick, Pippey Longstocking outfits and those crackpot clown scenes and sound effects, I'd say it's pure Mejia camp. When "El Maestro" is in the mood and he produces one of these circo's it seems to be a signature item with him. Mundo de Fieras comes to mind as the most recent that I remember as a case in point.
=========
doris: "He looked & acted exactly like I do when there is chocolate in the house" LOL! There's reason Guillermo García Cantú gets the big bucks. He may only be a character actor, but when he can finally make us forget him as that transvestite psycho-killer from La Madrastra by becoming a sex-obsessed squirming little Eddie Haskell sneak, then he's darn well earned his paycheck AND the limo ride! ~ ; ? )

beckster, Franco was definitely radioactive, Sarita's dress in Monday's preview is a 100% glow-in-the-dark red.....

Looks like we have another pseudonym for our favorite villian - Snidely!

Anon. 2:14pm - "I was surprised Juan did not cut up his feet on the broken cup and saucer." LOL! I wondered too! I had to go back and check. He had on grey socks, but you can definitely hear him stepping on broken pottery and a tinkling spoon. I swear this guy needs hazard pay what with this and the scene where he runs his foot into Franco's shovel!

YES it bugged me that she left the broken cup and spilt tea on the floor! Even if I were as tired as she seemed to be (despite being well-rested and not drinking the tea), I'd at least have put a towel over it. I realize they have maids but you can't leave broken shards on the floor beside your bed.

Lucky for the Reyes brothers that Quintina happened to wreck Libi's picture just in time for Grandpa to move in, huh?

Actually, it's pretty foolish of them not to discuss her with Grandpa by now. He seems to be the smartest guy in town, and they know they can trust him.

By the way, thanks to whoever answered my question about Feonando's past. I couldn't remember if they had actually witnessed Feo's past firsthand, or if they were just believing the story he had told them.

And I still assume that the Uribes fit into this backstory somehow, but I can't really figure out where.

As for Rosario's parentage - I know it's ridiculously simple for her to be Bernardo and Eva's child, but at this point I kind of hope she is anyway, mostly so that she can laugh in Feo's face while she counts her cut of Bernardo's inheritance.

Hi and thank you for a really funny recap!

I like "Nonefer Nando" as the new name -- because we are all hoping he keeps getting None from Sofia and we wish he got NONE EVER from Rosario!
Dorado Dave had a good name for him a couple of days ago, too something with Ass in it.

We finally got to see where the horses are kept -- but where exactly is that? Is it behind the bakery/house? It didn't look like a stable, more like a little open patio-- where does Capricho take shelter when it rains? And that pretty white horse and the dappled one, too?

The cup & saucer thing was pretty funny. At the end the clinking of broken cup is indeed audible and Juan looks down at it when he steps on it before heading to the window.

And I really have to say, the side of that house must look like piton practice day all the time -- Nobody Ever uses the door!

Bringing me to my next question -- How does Abuelo get upstairs in his wheelchair? Is there a hidden elevator that we never see?

As for the tea cup scene, we hit all the same points --Lazy? Maids? Towels? I'm wondering if Feo's finding that cup on the floor is elemental to a following scene and has to remain there. In THAT case, what might have made more sense would have been for Sofia to be too sleepy or distracted, to have artfully placed her hand or arm near the full cup and saucer and then to fall asleep and have her arm or hand to have knocked it over while she was asleep. Then EY doesn't see it in the darkened room and he misses stepping in it by choreographing or directing him to give her a last kiss from the foot of the bed instead. As it is, his scene has Nepotist's Nephew Syndrome written all over it.

"Bringing me to my next question -- How does Abuelo get upstairs in his wheelchair? Is there a hidden elevator that we never see?"

I've wondered that from the beginning of this novela. He got from upstairs to downstairs and often outdoors verrrrry quickly.

doris

Anon.5:56 am - You're right, the one scene in the morning did have the horses being groomed in an open, walled area which I presume is out back of the very humble stall enclosure we saw as part of the night scene right after Juan escapes on Capricho and returns to town and "thanks" him for saving him again. The walled area where they groom the horses to me also suggests there is a fenced pasture immediately behind it in which the horses walk around freely. In a little town like that, they could easily have it just a block or two down the dirt road they call a street or in fact, behind their crummy little building that passes for a bakery and their attached appartment. =/ 8 ? )
=====
Speaking of "preggers", NOTE: it's officially been 3 months since Libia's death according to this last episodio. Both Rosario and Sofia have done the deed with the one they love. Who wants to take bets on whose little stick turns pink first? Rotten luck for Sarita if Rosario is pregnant and it's not Franco's, but Feo's Demon Seed and Franco believe's it's his alone. Then we've got Feo taking the bows for Juan's baby to "protect the family name" for Mama and a long separation in the works very possibly for Sofia and Juan, cuz I'm certain although they have pregnancy kits there, they have never heard of DNA tests.

Thanks for the recap! Yes...that scene with the spilled cup was weird....and when Juan was climbing up the rope it was a little funny to watch cause he wasn't getting anywhere! :)

It is strange that Gramps has been at the Reyes house all this time and they don't mention a sister?

I wish Franco would shave his neck!!!!! Whats up with that??? It really bugs me and makes him look like a slob....and eeeeeww...those scenes in their chonez....we could do without them, pleeeese!!

Thanks for the great recap, Jardinera. :-)

I have this scenario about the broken teacup that Fernando finds a bloody footprint from the bed to the balcony.

Could be wrong, but I don't think stepping into it was a mishap, like clipping the shovel.

And I think the Uribe brothers are still in it, because there will indeed be a double wedding.

Jimena was fretting that her mother always gets her way, which is foreshadowing, in my book.

Jimena and Oscar would not be allowed to marry this early in the show anyway, IMO.

And if Rosario is pregnant, that would hurt Sara really badly, so that she'd go off Franco again.

An evil man like Fernando no doubt forces Rosario to use BC . She is too much of a money maker.Heaven forbid she was a nursing mother. She would have to send away for bras.

"I'm certain although they have pregnancy kits there, they have never heard of DNA tests."

I would be surprised if they have pregnancy kits; they don't even have phones or electricity. The SUV and Jimena's crop tops are the only things from this half of the century.

doris

Cell phones, I will buy into, cause there are many many many places with no cell phone coverage. And there is electricity or they have really big batteries for the Neon Sign on the Bad Love Bar. I thought there was an elevator at the house that gramps got in before? Although we do have the cliche TeleNovela StairCase, so someone will have to take a tumble down it.

As for the SUV, there was also that crazy Horseless Carriage that ran over already dead, but still a most excellent horseman Bernardo.

Speaking of Bernardo, was he not just a giant Tool? I mean what did he let Gabi the demonmistress, control everything. And what the hell is up with that new video game Gran Theft Hacienda IV, the Nuclear Version, "Ay Juan welcome to the Hacienda". Where players search endlessly for snippets of Bernardos hidden messages about the evilness of Gabi and Fer. Did this AssHat not have a lawyer, or a safety deposit box or a freakin Will?

seems to me that there was an elevator scene once. Probably at a different location than the hacienda, so they don't shoot it for the subsequent episodes. I didn't notice Juan's crunching the teacup, but that will probably come back to haunt our galan y princesa. i'm outa here for a week, but will try to catch the rcaps, thanks to all...

Mi ultimo recuerdo
Corria hacia la puerta
Ver una candela en el camino
Por donde habia llegado
"Relax" dijo el portero
Por mi es honor recibir
Puede salir cuando quiere
Pero nunca yo partir

Plenty of room at the No Tell Hacienda
Such a lovely place .....

Do most of you that watch this tele like the scrufty look of the three guys? I liked juan in destilando. He was so handsome and in this tele i think he is sooooo unattractive

Beckster - Bernardo, like most people, probably figured he'd get around to writing that will sometime because he believed he was too young to die yet.

doris

Absolutely DO NOT like the unkempt, dirty look of the three scrufties. Eduardo's extra weight and sweaty (think smelly) unshirted torso are a complete turnoff for me compared to that handsome dude in Desti. Yea, the neck hair on Franco is ugly. Oscar at least looks clean once in awhile.

Don't mind what condition Eduardo is in, clean or scruffy, he still has that great smile on that handsome face.

Ok, I was doing some screen caps, and saw that Juan is wearing thick socks when he hightails it out of Sofía's bedroom, supposedly treading on the broken teacup.

They're those thick gray kind with the cream-colored toe. So I guess a bloody trail is out of the question.

"thick gray kind with the cream-colored toe"

The monkey doll kind? Love those.

I think he has added a little weight and he is playing a different character not citified. I love him any qwhich way! JQ

anon 6:07, monkey socks is what I was thinking; I love those, too. But now that I look again, the heel is either dark gray or navy. But it's on the order of monkey socks, I think. You can see for yourself below.

I have made screen caps of two new scenes. The first one is the scene where Juan teaches Pablo with bread alphabets. It starts with No. 121 in the Fuego 3 album.

And the second one is Juan and Sofía's stolen love scene from Friday's episode, in the Fuego 4 album.

Fuego 3

Fuego 4

And I am sold on Eduardo, no matter what. It's really not a choice; it just is, LOL.

Anon 5:09, I'm with you about Juan....when he smiles his smile...he looks great anytime!!!

Thanks for the recap Jardinera. The Snidley Whiplash moniker for Feo was great.

Jeri loved your comment about EY - your sold on him, its not a choice LOL. I chuckled for a while about that and am so with you.

Jeri, thanks again for your computer wizardry. I really enjoy the caps of Juan, Sofia and Juan and the ones of Pablito reminded me of what a little talent he is. Thanks again.

Jeri: I don't know how you do those, but they're always so great to have. Thanks!

Thanks Jardinera for another great recap. So much to laugh about espeacially Snidley Fartnando.

And thanks to Jeri for more of your fine tivo clips captured and presented so nicely.

Jeri, one cap shows the three large window panels at the top of the staircase with each of the Elizondo daughters outlined on a glass panel. This is such careful detail adding to the story which the viewer may never notice. In turn, it is amusing and baffling since such detail is not evident in many other areas in this novela, for example the script.

Karen, he he -- it's just the truth, isn't it. I wish more of his novelas were available; but being away from Mexico for a while means that most of them are off rotation for reruns now. I hope they bring them back, with his return being successful.

G in CA, the Pablito actor does have a real talent; I think so, too. And I meant to say something about the window picture; thanks for the reminder. It's at:

#120

Someone elsewhere was asking about it, and I happened to see it while working on the others. It's clearly the Elizondo girls; either Bernardo or Agustín must have had it installed. I can't imagine Gabriella instigating that on her best day.

The sets and locations are well done. I think there is attention to detail in this novela; it is broad melodrama, but it looks to be plotted with care so far. No telling what will happen later on; but though it moves slowly, as someone already said and I agree, it doesn't drag. Also, something doesn't have to be subtle for me to admire it, LOL.

Jardinera and Cheryl, I'm glad you enjoy the pictures! :-) Feel free to use them. Anybody with a DVD recorder and a computer can do them, btw. I do happen to use a TiVo, but someone could just record a DVD off the regular broadcast and then play it in their computer to capture the screens.

One of the problems with this scene was that the entire thing was in the dark; unfortunately, that means that the data just aren't on the screen. Some of the caps had to be flash-filled up to 25%, and most 15%. That's the fact of life with love scenes, though; not many of them are in broad daylight, LOL.

P.S. G in CA, did you notice the sombrero shadow behind the sleeping Sofía in the second picture of the set? I love that symbolism of Juan protecting her. That is one of them things, for example, showing the director or cinematographer are not asleep. That was on purpose, and is a mood setter.

Sorry, typo: one of "the" things...

I don't think I have edit ability; at least I haven't found it yet.

5:56 and Doris: The elevator and the Libia's pregnancy test were both in the first episode.

When you go in through the front door and then take a right instead of going up the stairs, that's where the elevator is - that's where Grandpa was going in his matador outfit.

I sadly agree with Beckster about Bernardo being a giant tool. I can understand him not having updated his will within the very short time he knew Libi was pregnant, but he had (unknown number of years) to prepare his own daughters to become independent and get away from their controlling mother.

And what about him NEVER telling Libia he was married in the first place? How many chances did he have to tell her? And he met with the brothers twice - after telling Libia that he was willing to face anyone, and telling them that he was going to "do the right thing" (or whatever exactly he said to them) - but again conveniently forgot to mention that he had a wife and three daughters (all older than Libi) at home.

Jeri, you are right. this telenovela is a melodrama in the original, old fashioned sense with it's emotional thematic music, black and white characters (heroes and villians.) and a heroine to be rescued by the hero with true happiness at the end.

Sofía said early on that she was the one designated and prepared to take over the management of the hacienda; so Bernardo did prepare for that.

That was the day she went walking with the foreman and told him she wanted to plant peppers in one of the fallow fields. It was yet another bone of contention when her mom gave the job to Fernando.

I figure it this way: Bernardo and Gabriela did not have a good marriage, but it wasn't generally that bad as we saw it right before he died -- I mean, they did have three children.

I have this scenario where Bernardo really got fed up after Sofía got married, and her father saw how miserable she was. Maybe he thought it was an ok idea until he saw how Sofía reacted to Fernando as a spouse.

Things went downhill in a hurry -- and meeting Libia put the nails in the coffin. But if people still find Bernardo lacking, then I would point out that as a character, he paid for his transgressions with his death, and it is logical in that sense.

Although his efforts were foiled, I find the whole Feonando desire to get it on with a completely unconscious Sofia ridiculous in the extreme. Maybe some of our male commenters might comment on this, but I can't see the attraction of comatose sex.

I do agree that Guillermo Garcia Cantu is doing an excellent acting job as Feonando, just evilness personified, but well done

It is not about sex it is about control and wanting something that he can't have.

Remember he chloroformed her for the original rape, too, and she was barely conscious for that. Evidently he still thinks it counts as a win even when his prey is knocked out cold.

I could loan her my stun gun!

I wish you could, Connie!

Either that or somehow trick him into drinking his own spiked tea. "I'll have some tea if you have some tea," and then switch cups when he's not looking! Then put him in a pretty nightgown and leave him at the nightclub in a wheelbarrow.

Julie, Now that's what I'm talking about!!! And the next time Crabi slaps one of the girls they could zap her too. I still don't understand why they let her abuse them like that. Just pop her once and she won't do it again!

Julie, put some of Quintina's red lipsrick on him too. LOL

Oh yes, the red lipstick would be awesome. What would his homies think about that! And maybe get the donkey involved somehow.

What happened to the little boy after Franco found him? I think I missed that.

Hmmm... after scolding Armando for letting that woman mistreat the child, I think Franco just left. I don't think we saw what happened to the boy after that. Probably more of the regularly scheduled misery.

Now that Feo knows that Franco knows where the boy is, hopefully he'll fire that woman for being so indiscreet, and move the kid to a better situation. Maybe someplace where he's harder to find, but hopefully also someplace where he's less likely to get harmed by an out-of-control drunk.

Connie: What happened after Franco saw Luis we have to assume, since it went straight to a commercial and then to a different scene between Oscar and Franco and Armando and Feo, that he left him there with the man he thought was his father, namely Armando. It was rough editing or just bad scripting to leave us hanging like that at the end.

Jardinera, thanks for the excellent recap. Liked the Snidely Whiplash reference. Loved Gramps in the matador outfit. That's another one to add to his costume collection.
Now I'm worried--if Franco can't choose, will Rosario have to be sacrificed in some way (killed?) to save her son's life and clear the way for Sarita with Franco? Just a random thought...
La Paloma

Another thought--on Gramps not knowing Libia's family. How could that happen? In rural areas, small towns, people usually know one another or at least how people are connected. Hasn't Gramps always lived there? Has he been totally out of touch for the years in his wheelchair? Is the hacienda that isolated? Very strange.

Actually the point of wanting to get it on with Sofia even if she's comatose is so that their marriage is consummated. Then it's not in jeopardy of annulment or dissolution.

And all None Fernando wants is to be legally attached to that Hacienda and its Moolah $$$ that he wants so badly so he can keep playing cards and fighting roosters, isn't it?

He already said he's not in it for love...

Anon. 7:22pm - Great point. I would agree but I wonder since Feo admitted to raping her beforehand, do we really know if his obsession is only fiduciary or sexual (as opposed to emotional/love which he admits to himself he does not feel) or both? I think the sexual need is as strong because when he was raping Rosario this last time he kept repeating Sofia's name.

Maybe I've remembered incorrectly, but I believe either in the confession to Tadeo or somewhere he's admitted he desired her for a long time before that rape, even stalked her.
/=8 ?)

Yes, he told the padre in confession that he had wanted her, but that she didn't know he existed. So he planned the rape in order for her to be his -- all his.

Fernando's confused himself about how he feels, if he's taking Gabriela's advice on it. He was standing there in the hallway repeating what she said to him.

But I was surprised that night he pushed her into the river that he didn't care that she were dead.

Yes, that's true about the sexual need and saying Sofia while raping Rosario.

But Nonefernando also admitted to obsession for Sofia as opposed to love.

And since he was also already living with Los Elizondo before raping & marrying Sofia--he probably knew that if he raped her that her mother would marry her off to him to avoid having people gossip about her being a soiled woman.

That would be convenient for him because then he'd have access to the Elizondo money via Sofia.

In short, I think rape with eye towards marriage was premeditated, and also that he is obsessed and not in love.

And now for my next question to you all -- if the Elizondos have such big bucks of a fortune -- what do they do to make said fortune? Or is it all "old money" and they don't have to work at all? Because growing chile in a leftover field sure wouldn't bring that much cash in...

I think the hacienda produces cattle and horses; pretty sure that's what the jaripeo was all about.

The peppers were something that Sofía thought would please her dad for some reason. Maybe she said that field hadn't been cultivated in a long time -- it could be the one connected to the Robles-Reyes.

I think you're right, Jeri - I think it was the same field.

I think she said that her father had always wanted to grow peppers.

I was a little confused by the scene because for some reason I got the impression that they had only recently acquired that piece of land, to settle some outstanding debt. But maybe I misunderstood, and they had owned it for a long time and just hadn't gotten around to using it.

For some reason, even though this is probably the least complicated telenovela I've ever watched, a lot of little details seem to fall out of my head. I think my job is eating up more brain cells than usual lately.

Eek! I'm starting the recap now, but there's a big storm a-brewin'. If I get knocked offline for a while, the recap will be delayed - but hopefully it should still be up by morning!

I guessed I missed the part where it was mentioned that Feonando was living with the Elizondos prior to Sofia's rape. Bernardo did not seem to be able to tolerate Feo. Was it in on the ESMAS site or mentioned in a FELS episode? Just curious since my Spanish is not very proficient especially without captions and I must have missed it being mentioned. Thank you.

The storm mostly missed me, so the recap's going up in a few minutes.

I also confess that I don't recall anyone saying that Feo lived with them prior to the rape. I do remember someone (but I don't remember who - could have been Sofia, Feo, Gabi, Bernardo, anyone) in a very early episode talking about when Feo was coming around to visit Sofia, which would be strange if he was already living there.

And when Feo met the Uribes for the first time, they said they'd lived in that area all their lives (or since they were little) and had never seen him before. (Although, perhaps if he was living there as an employee, he would have been beneath the Uribes' notice.)

I thought the Uribes said they hadn't lived in the area since they were little, they had been living abroad.

There was some early conversation that had to do with Feo's father and his relationship with Bernardo, and that Feo had either come to live at the Hacienda or had been present frequently. I too think it was in an early conversation.
