Fuego en la Sangre - 0711/08: The Best Part of Breaking Up and Pasties in Pursuit

[A humble request to our faithful anonymous readers from this recapper: as some comments can sometimes and have been taken/misinterpreted negatively by this recapper and other bloggers when read, it would help enormously to avoid confusion, as some of our bloggers have suggested, if you would be kind enough to use some kind of screen name somewhere in your posts or at least put the generally accepted ; ) happy face/ sad face : ( so it can be assumed you're interested in a non-defensive, reasoned and reasonably non-hostile response as opposed to having the proverbial egg splatter over both our faces. You don't need to use a real name ever --that's the beauty of a screen name, but as it is we don't know if we're talking to the same anonymous or 10 of them and/or if we're even following the same conversation thread or not. Thanks! --ed.]
=====================

As Longfellow once wrote, "Into each life a little rain must fall" and so Gabriela walks over to sprinkle on Eva just as Raquel is about to tell her about her daughter, Ruth. The picnic's over and Crabi says it's time to leave and she'll deal with Eva later on back at the house. Eva walks back over to Sofia who, as we've noted, is literally dressed in her Petticoat Junction blue best, complete with Pollyana hair bows and white buck-dancers. Eva says she's noticed Sofia and Juan have had a spat. Sofia says love cannot withstand a lack of confidence and she says that Juan no longer trusts her. Eva wants her to try to smooth things over.

Juan walks over then and asks to speak with Sofia. Eva leaves as Sofia wipes back her tears and asks him what for if he isn't going to believe her. She tells him that love cannot withstand doubt and says she'd rather give him up before taking the risk of living through the same kind of hell she did when she was with Fernando. "If you don't trust me, let me go and I'll give you back your freedom." She walks away leaving him to stew in his own juices a while.

In town later that day Eugenia begins to tell Rigo her reasons for introducing him as her boyfriend to Benito the night before. She fills him in on their relationship and how it was impossible because she comes from the wrong side of the tracks.

At the same time, on their drive back to the hacienda, Benito, Tall Tweedle, tells Small Tweedle (Octavio), Jimena and Sarita about his feelings for Eugenia. He admits his great love for her and says he feels its useless to pursue her now, especially since he met her new boyfriend the night before at the club's grand opening. He deserved to lose her he says because he was a coward for not fighting to save their relationship. Benito cheers up when Sarita promises to help him get Eugenia back. Jimena persuades him to go find her and tell her how much he loves her and that he cannot live without her.

Meanwhile Rigo doesn't seem to care if he's second best. He wants a chance for romance and so, on the rebound, Eugenia decides to give it a go.

In another part of town, Fernando helps Gabi into the truck. She complains that she doesn't understand what everybody has against her. (Yeah, you can lead a stubborn jackass to water, but you can't make it drink.) She has only tried to do her level best to raise her daughters properly and feels she was in her right to disown Sofia. After all, she clucks, she's behaved like a whore and hasn't a shred of decency. And the way she flaunts her shamelessness in public! "Her immorality and bad manners shock me!" she carps. Fernando--speaking of the immoral--puts his hand on Gabi's and reiterates his steadfast loyalty since Bernardo's death. "Whatever you've done was for your daughters. Now it's time that you ought to think of your own happiness." Gabi, though, rejects any further seductive hints from Fer who, poor guy, apparently isn't gettin' nookie from nobody, nowhere these days, especially now that Rosario is out of town and on the road for a while.

In the Reyes' little kitchen a very sad eyed Sofia is putting away the picnic things when Juan, looking like a wounded puppy himself, peeks out from the doorway and wants to talk. He tells her that he knows he's a rough and a jealous lout (try adding loud and obnoxious to the list and I'd say he's about got it summed up) but she should understand (wrong choice of words, Bosco) that he's never had anything of his own in his life; and what life has given him it's snatched right back up again. He explains that he's never had anything as valuable as her before and is very afraid of losing her. Can't she just forgive him? Sofia simply says again that he cannot be so distrustful of her because it's hurtful.

Jimena and Sarita have stopped in to visit with Augie. He's teasing Jimena about loving Oscar. She admits she does still love him but feels he's too much of a playboy and says she'd rather be single, but on second thought knows she'd really rather not, especially when she gets to thinking about Oscar's hot looks. Augie turns to Sarita and asks about Franco. She answers she is upset with Franco for coming into her room and reading her letters. What really is upsetting though she says, changing the subject, was seeing Sofia and not being allowed to even say hello. Jimena says she doesn't think Mama will ever forgive Sofia.

Just then Mama walks in the door, finds them there with Augie, and gets hopping mad. She screams at them to get back to the house and forbids them to visit with him ever again. Jimena asks why she's not going to let them speak to their granddad either. Augie gripes about Crabi treating her daughters like they were her slaves, but she tells him to stick his nose out of her life. He says he can't believe she won't even let them speak to their own sister. AS far as Crabiela is concerned, for them Sofia is as good as dead. Augie yells back no, she is very much alive and he threatens to never sign those papers if she continues to refuse Sofia's sisters to see her again. (How many times can he push the envelope here? Sounds like Augie's days might be close to being numbered.)

That night Armando tells Feo how worried he is because not a soul has come to the Bad Love Bar since Rosario left on the Big Boss's mandated magical mystery tour and Maracuya started shakin' her bacon across town at the competition's new club. He tells Feo that they are losing a heck of a lot of money because of it. Feo reminds Armando that he owed the Big Boss so much money it was an offer he couldn't exactly refuse. Armando says that if it keeps up like this much longer they are going to have to shut the place down.

Across town at Tumbao, Raqui comes in and sits down with the Elizondo sisters and her nephews, Tall and Small Tweedle. She is explaining that it took a great deal of effort to convince Gabi to let the girls come tonight since she thinks the place is a veritable den of iniquity. (Ha! She ain't seen nothin' yet!) Just then Jimena spots Oscar as he comes in and is shown to a special, front row table for the floor show.

[Note: The US version of last night's episodio, Niurka's "naughty" ditty, was edited out and we were weirdly shunted over in hyper drive to the more "family-friendly" Touring Bon-Bons. (Imagine that!) The remaining shreds of the scene in the nightclub with Jimena and Oscar and Niurka were so disconnected and discombobulated that all sense of continuity was sadly gone and any comic quality was ...er...udderly...lost. I'm giving you the link to watch this on YouTube before you go any further into the recap.

Enjoy!! --ed.]

Maracuya begins her performance with her backside, covered in floor length imitation tail feathers shakin' at the audience. She turns around and the crowd goes wild as she goes full frontal and they see she pretty much has bared all but for a triangulated area of shimmering pasties on the appropriated parts of female anatomy. Men are cheering, but Jimena gasps, eyes popping, in sheer amazement and horror. Boom-boom-boom laca laca! Oscar does a triple-take. He looks over at Jimena and the two exchange stunned expressions. He's gulps for air but can't help sneaking a glance or three for a glimpse of Maracuya's mesmerising moves.

Jimena shoots an angry, accusatory glare at Oscar then as the music throbs and the beautiful, bare-acuda bounces, shimmies and shakes her way straight to Oscar's front row table. Jimena now throws a fire-breathing, green-eyed death-ray towards Oscar. Oscar looks back at Maracuya then over at Jimena again. Jimena flashes a "How dare you? How dare she--but how dare YOU!" Oscar raises his eyebrows like "W-w-h-hat? Who me?" Jimena glares back like " Yes, YOU!" as the sin-sational singing naca knocks her mammalian maracas in quadruple time and then locks a dumb-struck Oscar into her suffocatingly scintillating body block. Boom-laca laca laca laca laca.....! (First went the copas and then us, rolling onto the floor --and howling!)

Suddenly we are shunted back to the tour as Rosario, curiously now managing to wear halter tops that are slightly less likely to incur wardrobe malfunctions during her family-friendly performances, is finishing her set. She drinks in the applause. They love her, and so, apparently, might Bobby.

Franco, meanwhile, has ridden into the countryside and is singing love songs, with his horse patiently listening as he strums his guitar by the fire and thinks of Sarita and Rosario. He still hasn't figured out which one to choose. (By now even the horse seems to agree this is gettin' pretty old.)

Back at the Reyes Ruins, Juan is moping in his bedroom because Sofia refuses to kiss and make up. He thinks back to his jealous outburst and Sofia's honest and heartfelt denials. He says to himself that he was really an idiot and wonders when he'll learn to keep his snout--or, as we would say up here, his trap--shut.
=========

After the show Maracuya sends for Oscar to visit her backstage. Mara tells Oscar they're both adults so she's going to call a spade a spade. She has the hots for him and she knows he doesn't exactly think she's chopped liver, either. "Some things you just cannot h-i-i-i-de, right?" she coos. He smiles sheepishly and agrees. He has to apologize though (hard to say if it was Jorge ad-libbing or his character actually speaking here). Oscar says he's a bit distracted --no doubt, owing to the fact that she's been propositioning this small town "boy" practically in her birthday suit the entire time. Oscar is hardly able to put two words together for staring at her "attributes". He haltingly manages to spit out that there is still Jimena to consider. Mara purrs that she knows he's still very much in love with his girlfriend, but the girl doesn't have much faith in him. The girl, therefore, doesn't deserve to have him. Oscar says he's given Jimena cause to doubt him since he's purposely been staring at Mara just to make Jimena angry and to get her jealous.

Mara ignores this and puts her seductive charms into high gear. She has a proposition for him: go away with her when her stint at the Tumbao is over. They'll travel together. He asks what kind of "job" she had in mind. Mara answers that he'd be her companion at first and then her agent. (Sort of the casting couch in reverse.) Mara is very, dare we say, up-front about not intending to marry him; but they will enjoy themselves and be happy together. She won't promise how long it might last, but while it does he'll have made enough money to live in style. She asks him to at least think about it, caresses his face with her clawed paws and seals her proposition with a passionate lip lock. Even though Oscar isn't exactly up for it and tries to pull away, Octavio accidentally walks in on them. Octavio frowns and leaves without a sound.

Oscar has just managed to de-suction his mouth when Jimena walks in and sees them together. She says nothing either but immediately thinks the worst and angrily heads back out again without either Oscar or Maru realizing they've been seen.
=====================

Padre Tadeo has gone to the jail that evening to ask Nabor what he wanted to tell him about Bernardo Elizondo's death. Nabor admits he was drunk that day, but says he cannot forget that right before he ran him down, Bernardo looked really strange. He wasn't riding the horse like usual. Instead it was like he was asleep and his body was loose and his head was way over to the side. Besides, he adds, he hit him straight on from the front and according to the doctor, Bernardo died from a blow to the noggin. "Doesn't it seem really strange to you, Padre?" The padre ponders (note the knit brow) and sighs.

Meanwhile, Feo is driving down the dark country road towards the hacienda and cursing his rotten luck. "Don Augustin won't sign, I've got nothing to pay my debts with, and to top it off I'm losing money at the cantina. Dammit all!" Suddenly a shot rings out and the driver's side window shatters. Feo gets out and sees the Big Boss's enforcer standing on the side of the road with a shotgun. "This time it was the window. Next is your head," the enforcer dude warns him then rides off with one of his goons.

Oscar returns home and excitedly tells Franco about Maracuya's offer to be her agent. Franco wonders if that's all and Oscar answers sure, what else could it be? He says he'll have more money than he knows what to do with and Franco agrees it is what Oscar has always wanted; it would be his opportunity to finally get it. He asks Oscar if he's going to accept or not. Oscar says he'd be a fool not to, but then there is Jimena. He loves Jimena.

Franco reminds him that she is going to marry Octavio, but Oscar insists she's marrying him. She loves him and has made it plain more than once. Oscar and Franco remember back to the first day they spent with Sarita and Jimena, the day the fireworks went off in their hearts (according to the imagery in the flashbacks). "Those were the days," muses Oscar.

Franco wonders when they'll ever get their love lives straightened out. This brings Oscar to mentioning the fight between Sofia and Juan that is still going on. "The guy is such a hothead and now he's got doubts about Sofia."

Sofia is in her room and still weeping. Juan knocks and asks to come in. (It's his house so I guess she can't exactly say no.) He asks if they can talk. "Come in," she says with an extra loud sniffle. He doesn't want to say much, just that he can't bear to see her suffer and he loves her very much. He'd really like her to forgive him. Sofia says, well she's been thinking about how he's so much like the trophy he won. When he's baking and so tender its as if he's riding the docile horse, but when his bad impulses and fits take hold it's as if he's riding the wild horse. His personality at times creates a rift between them. She can only hope that one day he isn't sorry for not learning how to control himself. He tells her she's right about everything but he really needs to know if she's going to walk off and leave him.

Sofia won't give Juan an answer. She's still hurting and angry, but she cannot resist his tender kisses. Eventually she gives in to her desire and the reconciliation lasts long into the night.
===============

While Luisito sleeps Augie asks if Eva knows who his father might be. Eva says she's been too frightened to bring it up as she regrets how much Rosario must have suffered by being abandoned. She says when she sees how much Sofia loves the baby she's expecting she is full of self-recrimination for the way she let Gabi goad her into giving up her child. Augie says he knows Gabi has caused a lot of pain for folks, but she is still his daughter and he loves her, though it is painful to see how unfair she is. (Yep. Good or bad, the kid is yours till the end and there is always a loving tie that binds -though it's hard to think of Crabiela as somebody's kid let alone that Augie could even mention her name and the word "love" in the same sentence.) He shakes his head in shame.

Gabriela is now in her darkened bedroom with just a candle and moonlight pouring over an open bible. She is kneeling at the end of her bed and praying as refrains from what is possibly Mozart's Requiem or maybe Verdi's --or then again, maybe it's neither--are playing in the background. It's fairly obvious that she's suffering from a true martyr complex as she kneels there, arms outstretched, Christlike and now turns God's idea of justice on its head. "Lord, everyone condemns me, but I know I'm right because my heart follows alongside you. You're right side has sustained me always and you said 'blessed are those who hunger and thirst for justice'; that is me and I am harming no one. I'm only imparting justice, because I obey. I'm trying to carry out your teachings. Your teachings, Lord. Forgive me. Forgive me." She begins feverishly whispering something totally inaudible after.

At the same time in the rectory chapel Padre Tadeo reads from his bible too, but it's a different chapter and verse. "One day we will all sit before Christ's tribunal and only he will judge us and impart justice." Tadeo prays for for the Lord to allow Gabriela to think things through before she tries to take justice into her own hands. "She cannot; she must not."

Morning comes to Ciudad Serdán. Juan is up bright and early putting together breakfast in bed for Sofia. He wakes her with the tray in hand and she tells him she is certain that her father up above has been watching and has come to love him like a son. Juan doesn't answer. From the look on his face it's evident the idea of his sister's seventy-something lover treating him like a son isn't exactly an appetizing thought. He changes the subject and tells her he's determined to control his impulsive outbursts. She is pleased and says it would be good for everyone if he does.
==============

At Augie's suggestion Quintina has returned to the cottage with a sack of clothes for Luisito. Augie tells her to get the little boy dressed and that he needs to speak to Sofia ASAP.

Franco, Oscar and Pablito are eating breakfast in the kitchen when a couple of the men from the town come by to ask if Franco would sing at an event they're holding that day. Oscar wrangles a fee out of them but Franco refuses to accept it. Despite their need for ready cash he is not going to charge for his performance.

Across town Small Tweedle, Octavio, is trying to persuade Maracuya to extend her singing contract with them a while longer. She refuses and adds that anyway, his "fiancee" doesn't like seeing her around. Octavio says no, Jimena is only jealous over Oscar. Mara teases and says well then you already know she is Oscar's girlfriend. Octavio begins to stumble around trying to explain his situation, but Mara stops him. She says she's been around the block a time or two and seen quite a bit. She realizes his "preferences" for other "people" and that she knows he's really in a relationship with Bruno and promises to be discreet. Octavio explains that since their families are so insistent that they get married, his pact with Jimena has been the only way to avoid them pressuring the two of them any further.
=================

At the hacienda Feo is in Bernardo's old office. He begins banging around on the desk looking for secret compartments which could hold those incriminating papers of Bernardo's. Eventually he finds a false drawer with a letter from Bernardo inside. He opens it and begins to read: "If it's you reading this letter, Fernando, then you still haven't found the documents I left to incriminate you; but if it's another person who is reading this from me, I Bernardo Elizondo, declare that I hid several documents which show that Fernando Escandon is not a man to be trusted."

Feo looks over at Bernardo's picture on the desk, crumples up the letter and worries about what to do next.

Outside Augie, Luisito and Quintina head off to town in the motorbike and sidecar while nearly running down anybody in the way.
===============

Sofia and Juan have finished eating. Juan tells her how blessed he is to have her with him. He cannot believe how happy he is. She asks sweetly if he'll love her the same forever. He gives her a huge grin and answers of course, expecially siince she's giving him a child to unite them in love. Sofia asks Juan if he's thought about what to call the the baby. He suggests that if it's a boy he'll be called Juan Jose after Juan's father. He isn't sure what to name it if it's a girl, but then a thought comes to him. A bit later he and Sofia are standing in front of the altar at church. "Maria Guadalupe is what we'll call our little girl, in appreciation of the virgencita--" (as if we weren't already OD-ing on sweetness and light about now.....) Sofia agrees and smiles up at the image of the Virgen of Guadalupe. "--in appreciation of the virgencita's love and protection," she says. The music swells.

Whew....we certainly DID miss something. I loved Oscar's sheepish grin at the end. Thanks Jardinera.

Hahahahaha! Now all the reactions to what she was doing make more sense. Thanks! hahahahaha

(I'm moving today, y'all. Will probably be back online around Thursday, but will still be watching FUEGO. So. Hasta later! :)

Maracuya said the name of Octavio's boyfriend! It's BRUNO!

I know, I was so excited to finally hear Boyfriend's name. :)

They mentioned it once or twice a long time ago (I even remembered reading it in a recap) but it didn't stick with me and I wasn't able to track down the recap in which it appeared.

Thanks for the link, Jardinera.

And good luck with the move, Barbecue Stephe! ;-)

Ha ha ha!!! That rocked. Thank you thank you thank you for the link. Oscar and Jimena are fantastic as always, they have great chemistry and Jorge Salinas has the best expressions ever. Thanks Cakes. After seeing that scene I regret that Niurka got booted from the Aventurera review before I got to see it. She's kind of creepy but she's sure got the moves.

Whoa! That video does fill in the gaps. I'm just happy that the pair I like got some airtime. They may be many things but insipid they are not.
I don't think the Big Bon Bon could do that dance. Hers don't move. And while EY does have a lovely smile, I prefer to smile while I watch "Oscar".

The looks between Oscar and Jimena were priceless. And now, in their proper context, they even make sense.

I honestly don't think Univision needed to edit that out.

For a while the local station was running an ad for "Lifties," which were clear adhesive thingies you'd stick to the bottom of each boob and then lift them up and stick 'em so that they'd be higher. In the ad you could see the entire breast except for the nipple, which was pixelated out.

Of course there wasn't any dancing and the ad wasn't "titillating" at all, but we saw a lot less of Niurka than what we saw of the lady in that ad.

The ad didn't run very long though - it probably got yanked due to complaints.

I just re-read my post. To be clear ;The pair I am referring to is Jimena and Oscar. Not Nuirka"s pair.

Anon, I totally agree with you on Oscar and Jimena. That Jorge has such an expressive face. Although the puppy face Juan gave Sophia in the kitchen was pretty dang hard to resist! Maracuya bothers me. She looks kinda tranny. I looked her up in other stuff and don't think the black hair does her justice. It makes her very hard looking. And I don't get why that dance was too much that we had to miss it, really if we can see Franco in those tighty whiteys...what the heck!

I have this total thing for Jorge now so I rented Sex, Shame and Tears. His character is a jerk, but it was really good. For as funny as it was, I wasn't expecting the sad ending. If you haven't seen it, it is worth checking out.

Thanks for the youtube link! Can't wait for the full recap!

Ok people if you don't know Niurka was thrown out of Televisa in other words in Spanish she was "VETADA" from the network Televisa. So for this reason Univision is editing the musical performances of Niurka in the novela... I have a feeling it's a command of Televisa. But heer character performances are not being edited but the musical ones are.

This is all has to do with Televisa and the problem she had with them I think Univision got the tapes like that from Televisa already with the edited musical performances of Niurka.

Thanks Jardinera for a great romping recap and for the link. The faces of Jime and Oscar were priceless! In 2001 I watched the TN "Salome" and I think it was Niurka playing (surprise!) a sleazy exotic dancer. As I recall they frequently showed her dancing in a variety of skimpy pasties. IMHO she hasn't aged well.
I am liking Rosario more, her character is becoming more interesting.
Sofia: girl, get some teeth whiteners. And find some prenatal vitamins; that bakery diet is just wrong.
"Creemelo"

Oh my Jardinera...this was one of your best recaps ever. I was already smiling at "shaking her bacon across town" when you launched into a full, hilarious description of Maracuya's full frontal dancing right in Oscar's bemused face. Sensational...in every sense of the word...and very very funny.

Hope you always have a little snippet of Maracuya in your recap nights. She brings out the best (or should I say worst?) in you.

Thanks Jardinera! The video explains a lot - about a lot of pairs. These kind of recaps are what keep me watching this silly show. You have a sensational way with words...
jb ;-}

Jardinera, thank you for the clever recap and the complete episode since so much was hacked off by the editors for whatever reason.

Boo to Sofia. Am I the only one who thinks Sofia is also at fault for opening her mouth to Juan about how much Feo loved her? This was not a considerate statement in my book and it almost comes across as if she is incredulous that Feo could desire someone else besides her. Sheesh, a little arrogant, I think.

Also she tries to reconcile with her mom multiple times but won't give Juan a second chance. But then they were separated for just one episode not weeks, thank goodness. Hope this is it for separations based on flimsy or hair brained reason but I doubt it.

Still loving E Y and that smile.

G in CA

Molly: If you like Jorge Salinas have you seen "La Esposa Virgen"? It stars Adela Noriega, Jorge Salinas and Sergio Sendel. It was on a couple of years ago and is worth watching, I think.

Telenovelera in AZ

I liked "La Esposa Virgen" too. I really liked Jorge Salinas in that TN, and he was such a disappointment in this at first. Perhaps it's just becauses there's no substance to his character (like the rest of the cast). But as I mentioned before, the campiness of the show has grown on me and I am getting a kick out of the craziness ... Jorge's silliness as well.

G in CA: I agree with you. Juan had to work waaaay to hard to be forgiven for his understandable comments about Sofia's "jealousy". But, watching him cook the make-up breakfast was so cute, the way he kept messing up the eggs and doing them over. I can't decide if he's a hugely talented actor, or if that's just his own charm coming through.
"Creemelo"

Creemelo, I think most of these actors are hugely talented (sorry Pablo but you're improving a lot) but aren't offered the scripts worthy of their talents. The acting and script in Pasion were both outstanding, for example. At least FELS is campy fun and I do think E Y is charming and his charisma is carrying him through this less than riveting script.

G in CA

I vote that Ruth is Eva's daughter. Why? Because Gabby stopped Raquel from talking about it with Eva. No spoiler. I have behaved loyally and not watched ahead etc.mhm

Oops, posted above on the Guapos page.

Thanks for the recap Jardinera. I have to agree with G in Ca and Creemelo about Sofia. She can forgive her mother's complete insanity (I mean she was hitting her repeatedly after her accident) but not Juan. I mean she's seen Juan in action (she's knows he's a hot head). I know I'm thinking too much for this novela.

Thanks for the recap...
And let me throw in my shout-out to G in CA, Creemelo and Karen. Sofie who endlessly grinds on my nerves, yeah she is sweet & nice and lives in a freekin pumpkin shell. Is she gonna get a collar for Juan that matches her lovely princess dresses. Jeez she was raped, witnessed the mentally slow and very young lover of her dead dad, got smacked around by her mother on a hourly basis, groped and threaten by her crazy husband, got knocked up, I'm sorry but sooner or later you would get a bit more receptive to the basic human nature. You would have a clue that perhaps new guy doesn't really want to hear that old guy loved you so much, it is impossible that he would grope anyone else. Juan grow a pair.

Alas, though I guess Juan gets what he wants...it doesn't appear that either one of them is much of a deep thinker. Remember it took Juan like thiry years to open the precious box of memories.

I'm rooting for Oscar cause at least he appears that he would be tempted to pull a scam. Franco seems to be a bit of a dumbass also, I mean I get the whole Rosario thing, but Sarita, please...

Okay I just watched YouTube..I think she did a scene in Salome with just the pasties too.

Chick's got short legs, I mean just sayin for a show girl.

Oscar smirked good in this one.

Beckster, when you refer to the "mentally slow and very young lover of (Sofia's) dead dad", are you hinting that Libia wasn't the brightest bulb in the garden shed? Plus, generously assuming that the Reyes boys are now mid-30's to early 40's, and were only around 10 and 12 when their parents were killed, that means Libia was no spring chicken when she died... And if Bernardo was a septuagenarian as some have referred to him, then "Don Augie must be at least 90? No way!
"Creemelo"

PS to the above: I missed the first 3 weeks of this novela, and never saw Bernardo and Libia, and there are still some things I find sooo confusing. :o}
"Creemelo"

AZ - I have seen a little of La Espousa Virgen on youtube when I was looking for all thing Jorge. FELS is the first Novella I have watched. I was trying to find them on DVD, but have not found any place that carries older shows. If you have any links, that would be wonderful!

Jardinera, they often use Mozarts Requiem and I think they did in this episode as well. But when Crabbie was praying, I thought it kind of sounded like the soundtrack for The Omen!

Thanks for another great recap, you ROCK!

Creemelo (and anyone else who missed the earlier episodios) --use this link to view all of them up to around episodio #44 off YouTube. These are pretty excellent quality and complete. This person has their own site linked and that's the one I've given you. You'll see that about 2 wks' worth between episodios numbered in the mid 40's through the later 50's are missing like they were on vacation or something. Each segment is around 9or 10 minutes long so you get all and no commercials, but no CC either. (You have our recaps, no?) Enjoy!

http://www.youtube.com/profile_play_list?user=vcc91

Thank you, Cakes!
"Creemelo"

Molly--I just signed up for N*tflix, the movie-rental-by-mail folks, so I searched to see if they carried any Jorge Salinas TN's on CD. They didn't, but they do carry 4 of his movies... Same might be true for EY.
"Creemelo"

Well we know they have seriously adjusted the age scale for these characters, but in real life Libia is 48 years younger than the actor playing Bernardo. And I maybe a bit harsh on Libia, but well did she not come across as a bit SLOW? I mean really child like?
And yes the Juan being maybe ten years older than Libia is indeed a stretch. But it is just part of the bad planning of this thing. Also remember Don Aug has pictures of the Revolution and indeed talks about it like he was there, but even if he was 10 in 1916, that would indeed make him in his 90's.

I am right there with you all about the dimmer switch being permanently turned down low with Libia and definitely am thinking Sofia has a 'tude problem same as Juan's. But, I'll grant her a little bit of female pride and give her a pass re Juan's jackassery at the picnic, considering what K wrote the other night about what she left to come live with him. Nobody can he'p it though, cuz that's the way they've been written/rewritten for the Mexican audience who have got to have more on the ball than you'd think from the way this thing is written. But I'm looking through my personal looking glass and have never lived south of the border.

Anyhoo, I do remember that the original was written back in the 1940's and so maybe it was laziness on the part of the writers to keep in the bit about the 1910 revolution and not to have made Augie a part of some other later political movement. Either way, it's obvious that Bernardo (despite the fact that in that culture older men do/did marry much younger women) was way too old for the brothers to really want to accept him and they said as much in the first few episodios.

As for some current movies with our Mexi-novela fav's in them, Blockbuster just released a 2008 DVD called ¿Qué Nos Pasa?

Creemelo, thanks for the Netflix heads up, I will have to check that out!

Does anyone know how old the actor that plays Don Augustin is in real life? Someone told me they had heard he was nearly 100. I know I can research it, but thought someone might already know. Thanks

marilyn

Marilyn: Thanks for poppin' in. Joaquín Cordero was born Aug. 16, 1922 and so would be turning 86. per IMDB, although Network54 sites say 1926. Take your pick, but I think he seems closer to 86 than 82.

http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0179516/bio

Thanks for that info, Annie. Niyucka got the boot, huh? Well I'm sure she won't starve... she can continue entertaining her fans, and those who aren't fans will be spared!

Maybe Libia was a 3-day old newborn infant when their parents were killed? Just wondering ....

Maybe I missed something but as best I can tell, Juan & the Bros. have not been back to Libia's shrine ever since her flower failed to glow for Juan on his last visit & request for advice from her. (I guess they can't get Energizer batteries at the pueblo for that poor flower)

Thanks for the great recap jardinera, and the Youtube link. It definitely explains the facial expressions on Oscar & Jimena, which were priceless.

Maracuya makes Rosario look like a schoolgirl. I'm liking Rosario more and more.

Nuclear waste is a terrible thing, as we can see here. It has left them all one donut short of a dozen.

doris

I think you're right about that, mhm, not only because Gabi interrupted the Ruth conversation, but also because of the look on her face the first time Raquel mentioned Ruth.

She looked absolutely stunned. Kind of an odd way to react to the mention of someone's daughter.

Either that or her shock was at the notion that Raquel had a daughter at all. Clearly Gabi's idea of motherhood is to have your grown daughters trail behind you like ducklings. No ducklings = no hijas. Perhaps the thought of Raquel's daughter living like an adult threw her for a loop.

Well, considering lots of people get married really young in Mexico - say like 17 years old or younger - and if everybody's actual age is supposed to be not what they really look like -- then Bernardo might have supposed to have been something like 50 years old & Libia maybe 16? That would give them a 34 year age difference. Then if Juan is supposed to be maybe 26,
then that might fit the timeframe better, right? And Sofia could be 22 or so, and that would line up the ages of the rest of Oscar/Franco/Sarita/Jimena pretty well.

But Don Agustin keeps saying he was a general in the Revolutionary army. So either that's one of his getting-senile personas, or the timeframe of the entire show is supposed to be waay earlier than Cadillac Escalades could possibly appear. And would explain why there aren't any phones. But not why there is an electric iron.

It's this anachronistic time warping effect that gives the whole story some the fairytale feeling, don't you all agree? That, and the strange costuming.

And in keeping with your food themed names, best regards to all,

PanQue

Thanks, Cakes, for another interesting recap. I enjoy watching Mighty Joe Juan and Alice [Sofia] together. Eduardo and Adela are doing a good job of portraying a devoted couple . I'm glad that they made up quickly after that odd spat about Juan witnessing Ferd kissing someone else. Reminding Juan that she thought that Ferd only had eyes for her wasn't the wisest thing for Sofia to say knowing Juan's explosive nature. However, the nature of novelas is for the pot to be stirred now and again to heat things up which then sets the stage for some sweet making up scenes. Sofia has it made...a big, strapping guy who makes sweet love to her and then makes her breakfast the next morning. Perfecto. As someone once said, ''Do you want to be right, or do you want to be happy?'' Sofia and Juan both choose #2. Can't wait to meet Ruth and see what happens next. You must admit that this novela has kept us all guessing as to whose daughter is whose. I'm guessing that Sofia is Eva's daughter because Crabi's hatred of her is so puzzling and intense [she tried to burn her to death...que the hell????] . How is Ruth going to fit into the mix?? Is Ruth actually Passion Fruit ? Remember that Raquel told the boys that she wanted to meet their new emplyee. [Maybe Passion Fruit hasn't been with her cousins, the Tweedles, since they were all itty-bitty..weren't the Tweedle boys in Europe for awhile???

PanQue, thanks for your "timeline" for the characters' ages. I must stop obsessing over it!! (What's the difference if some of the characters are living in a different time/space continuum?)
Meanwhile, it occurs to me another reason --besides the nuclear waste dump--for some of the goofiness on this show; it's the lead in the glazed pottery dishes they drink/eat out of. That stuff builds up in your brain!
"Creemelo" (or, if bakery themed: Caramelo)

Thank you for a wonderful recap, Jardinera. I love all the extra research and the posting of the youtube verdadero dance with the wild reactions and side glances of Oscar and Jimena making total sense. The scene as originally shot is actually better and one of the more entertaining scenes we have seen. Oscar does convey his talents better when he is not cut so severely. The idea of whacking Niurka's music scenes doesn't really make sense to me but it may be a combination of punishment for her that ends up being more punishment for us and some misguided US TV puritanism that we shouldn't see pasties that really move naturally. She doesn't show more skin than Rosario if you wanted to get out the tape measure. I just don't really get the subtleties here.

Juan is the sexiest contrite lover imaginable. Too bad Sofia doesn't take off the American Girl Doll dress more often. I'm also still amazed that the little girl narrow bed of Libia's isn't collapsing during the love scenes. Susanlynn, I was doubly charmed by the lover turned breakfast chef too. Sooooo sexy.

Gabriela as the misguided martyr was another good scene, it helps build the case for her insanity to take over her brain. The moment of almost feeling remorse are fewer and farther apart. She mumbled some sorrow about who might have been Libia's family but it was short lived. Lots of craziness about this end of the story still to come out.

And once again Fert literally dodges the bullet, so disappointing.

Mabybe Libia's finally managed to follow the Bros. Reyes back home since now there's a fresh daisy on the desk in her room that glows every time Juan gets a good idea.

Imagine going to costume party where some people are wearing different costumes, and other people are wearing identical ghost costumes.

(I'm not knocking ghost costumes as such, since that's the most elaborate costume I've ever worn, myself.)

If the person in the Sherlock Holmes costume is generally a likable person and then one day blurts out something that seems uncharacteristically nasty, you'll probably give Sherlock the benefit of the doubt. In fact, you might even be worried, because you know Sherlock is not usually like that.

You can't do this with the people in the ghost costumes because you can't tell them apart. Most of them came to the party in good faith, and they're probably just feeling shy. You wish they'd put on different costumes so you could get to know them and say "Yay! The Legionnaire and Napoleon are here!" but you can forgive them if they don't.

But this means that if someone in a ghost costume seems to be rude, or hostile, or weirdly defensive, or passive-aggressive, you don't know if this a Sherlock type of person having a bad day, or some other regular with an odd sense of humor.

Taken at face value, so to speak, this person looks like a troll and has no history of goodwill to refer to.

But it's true that some people don't find honest communication rewarding. They may hide behind a different disguise, or use a different name to cause mischief. Or they may pretend to be two different people who always agree with one another coincidentally make the same spelling/typo errors.

Very good analysis Julie. You have summed up the problem beautifully. As did Jardinera.

Jardinera - thanks for the info on Don Augustin - I had a feeling I was getting some misinformation. BTW excellent recap, yours are so complete I wouldn't need to watch, but still hoping to see Juan in his underoos. And off the subject entirely, anyone know where EmileeK is now? Posting on another site, possibly? I remember reading her posts, and hope she's OK.

Marilyn

Emilee - funny, I was thinking of her this morning - she had been trying to watch Fuego and PDG at the same time, right? And it sounded as though she was watching them online and not on TV, and having a hard time keeping up with both - so maybe she got frustrated and gave up. Or maybe only dumped Fuego and is posting to the PDG discussions? I dunno.

She originally showed up ages ago during LFMB, posted a few times, then disappeared for a long while. So hopefully she's just busy doing summer stuff, or watching something she likes.

Sherlockghost: Sounds like you've felt like you've had a prior negative response or two and for that I am very sorry. If you have, then other anonymous writers have also and that is precisely why I suggested putting a screen name on a post rather than keeping it anonymous and remembering to include happy faces and sad faces since we obviously cannot "see" the expression on your real face. It is always easier to carry on a civil discussion/debate with a "known" individual, and I'm sure you know there are posting "rules" that one learns along the way, like CAPITAL LETTERS are yelling and :) or
:( faces mean you're joking or despondent but not necessarily argumentative or accusatory, nor meaning to be downright rude.

We play rough on this blog as mocking is the name of the game here and we all realize that people here "have their moments." We try to give them space. Recappers can control but we do NOT control. Melinama controls all and can play G-d with all of us. Recappers do have their finger on the control, a.k.a. "zap", button one day a week. I rarely feel the need to zap a comment unless it is pornographically offensive or morally reprehensible to the extreme; and to paraphrase some jurist, "I cannot always describe [it] but I know it when I see it." In the entire time I've recapped on this site I've only zapped 3 comments. Trust me, count the number of recaps I've done and then multiply the number of comments per recap. It ain't beanbag.

You say one of 2 people here "sure took the bait", so my question is why did you feel it necessary to bait anybody?

PanQue: Your ideas around a timeline make too much sense for Univision/Televisa!! IMHO Bernardo even in his 50's has got no business with a 17 yr. old girl, no way no how.

La Esposa Virgen had this same disconcerting "ethereal" feel to it. I think it is typical Mejia.

Yes, the glowing flower in the vase on the desk in Libia's room...she must now be living back home with her bros !!!! I am enjoying this show now that things are moving along a little more. I am intrigued to find out who Ruth is and how she will interact with the other characters. I'm not really good at predicting upcoming events in these novelas , but it surely is fun to guess and I always love to read everyone's insights and ideas. This is a fun group , and it's fun to have a few laughs here together each day and forget our reallife telenovelas with their own cast of interesting characters and events. I wonder how Fernando C.s new novela is coming along. I would be muy contento to just simply alternate between him and Eduardo ...that would be sweet.

Cakes ***Who were the leads in La Espousa Virgen ??? ...and why was espousa a virgen???? Was this a telenovela worth watching ? I like Adela.

Sorry..that last post about Esposa Virgen was me...Susanlynn...I made some kind of booboo.

Although I truly hate Gabi, it seems that she honestly believes she is guiltless, and everyone's out to get her. Unlike Feo, who knows he's bad, but doesn't care - he needs money, he needs to control or demean women (and men), and no one's gonna stand in his way.

Okay, back to Gabi. From her viewpoint, she doesn't know about any of Feo's bad doings (murder, rape, owning a "low-class" club, debts, etc). She's been brought up in a snobby, class-conscious manner, but in real life (especially a few generations ago), many people were like that. How many mothers refused to go to the wedding of a child who married out of the faith? And Gabi sees her married daughter have an affair with a "low-class" guy, get pregnant, then tell the world, and insist on leaving her husband and have the baby, because she's in looooove (a foreign concept to Gabi).

Of course, setting fire to the bakery was insanity, and hitting her daughters is cruel. So of course, we hate Gabi. But does she really deserve as bad a fate as Feo? I haven't yet made up my mind on this.

Dear Booboomaker-Mad buns/Susanlynn: Jorge, Adela and Sergio Sendel were the (important)leads in La Esposa Virgen, another Salvador Mejia madhatter-piece shown up here in the fall of 2005. It is NOT worth the effort. It was a lot of tease, a dud, with a possibly decent story but a dullllll script. Even I found myself nearly nodding off at times. It dragged for 4 short months.....

Adela marries an old general on his deathbed 2 hours before he dies as a favor to/duty toward a deathbed request of her dead mother. Never got the marriage consummated obviously, and thus, the title, The Virgen Wife. Sergio, the general's military attaché in charge of taking her back to the old guy's home village to take over the inherited hacienda, and Jorge, a trainrobber Robin Hood by night and a doctor do-gooder married family-man by day, both fall madly in love with her. The mystery is why the marriage and who will she end up with.

Thanks, Cakes, that saves me a search for that novela. I think that you and I have about the same taste in novelas..except that you go for the quarterbacks and I am inclined to lean toward the linebackers. Well, I've caught up on the recaps of Sangre and Enemiga , so I will watch some Alborado before getting ready for the week ahead. Hope everyone had a nice weekend.

I am curious and confused .... does anyone in the dim bulb Elizondo family know Feo is the owner of the the BadLove Bar because me thinks Crabi would not approve as well as Sarita as they both have their panties in a twist? And does Eva, who was stalking Rosario at the bar, know Feo is the owner and did she ever see him there? Actually I may be the dim bulb because I don't recall. Thank you.

G in CA

Hombre: You've got it nailed. Gabi lost respect when she forced her daughter into a marriage out of shame. Forget love having anything to do with it. She lost out on redemption when she began to beat her pregnant daughter and then gave in to incestuous temptation and tried to murder that daughter, IMHO.
======
G in CA: None of the Elizondo's nor Eva know of Feo's other life. I believe Feo is a "silent partner"/owner of the Bad Love Bar and Armando is the partnership's frontman.

Feo vs. Crabi: which is worse? If dissing one's mother is the worst crime in telenovelaland, then causing her death is probably worse. Crabi wins the prize for that one. Her mother died because Crabi was too busy arguing with her and insulting her father to watch the road.

Of course, it's possible that Feo has done something even worse in the mom department!

Thank you to Jardinera for clearing up the matter of Feo's business and the Elizondos and Eva not knowing about it.

Happy Monday everyone!! As always thanks for the recap. It seems like I missed some things. I must have zoned out. At least we didn't have to look at Snofia's horrid blue creation again.

Since I'm new to blogging, it would be helpful (at least to me) to post the "rules" or "guidelines" for blogging.

Thanks everybody. Have a great Monday.

Connie, a long while back Melinama posted the rules... unfortunately I can't seem to track that down right now. I'll look again tonight.

The main thing was that plot spoilers will definitely get deleted, and Melinama considers personal gossip about the actors to be spoilers.

Certain kinds of obnoxious behavior can also get your comment deleted. I've only seen this a handful of times in two years, so it's not a frequent problem.

If you know how to behave in "real life" and treat people the same way in the virtual world (which is also real life), you should be OK.

It can be a little trickier online, because it's harder to read people when you can't see them smile or wink or scowls, or hear them laugh. Hence all the smilies, winkies, frownies, and LOLs!

Folks, for some reason it happens from time to time that people make comments their personal stomping ground and their personal feelings, which probably stem from something in their own private lives, start to make other people uncomfortable. Yes, when this happens I DELETE because this is not a blog about your personal feelings of disappointment or rejection. Let's not take things personally. I am now using my godlike DELETE button and let's stop complaining about each other, ok? Let's reserve our complaints for the telenovelas and their actors, producers, directors, writers, and costume designers.

Thanks Julie. That's what I thought but I wanted to be sure. There is a show that I saw advertised for Thursday. Is it going to preempt our show? I don't remember what time it comes on.

Another question--Why do we have to type the letters every time we post? It seems kind of stupid and I didn't know if there was a purpose for them. Thanks.

The CAPTCHAs (those wiggly strings of letters you have to enter in order to post a comment) are annoying, but they help to prevent us from getting hit by mass-posting spambots.

Even a low-traffic blog that gets only a few visitors each week can get attacked by 'bots posting spammy comments. Often the comment is something like "nice site, click here for improvement in your pants" or "nice site, please look at my wife pictures."

And then the links go to a website that is either trying to sell you something, raise click-through advertising revenue, get personal data from your machine, and/or give your computer some type of social disease.

High-traffic sites like this one tend to attract even more 'bots, so additional precautions are necessary. :(

Thanks Julie. That makes sense. I have a spam filter on my accunt here at work but those silly things always manage to get through somehow.

Yes, I Have to agree with Melinama and maybe this wasn't exactly her point, and I DO NOT presume to speak for her and forgive my directness and the fact that I too am pitching MY personal opinion, but I have to say along those lines that I think demanding that people not post anonymously is just dumb and useless.

It IS trying to control situations by telling people to identify themselves essentially just because YOU WANT to know who they are and maybe don't like what they said and feel it necessary to address them somehow or get inside their head. Get over it. This is not a tupperware party at your house, though I know it's nice to feel that connection to most of the people here that you can identify, and many of them are maybe even more special and in touch with you more often than people you see face to face.

Blogs are posted on the worldwide internet forum, and by this nature are generally open and accessible to anyone, anywhere, far beyond your little computer and neck of the woods, which really is the beauty of the forum. Blog Mom has the ultimate power to decide if she wants to allow anonymous comments and she can and does regulate what shows up here according to HER preference, though I bet she'd prefer less stress of having to worry about this petty nonsense and I fear one day she'll shut the whole thing down because she's tired of policing anymore and then where will we be? I'd GUESS she hasn't yet because mostly she does love what this community has become and cares about us, who love it too.

But, anonymous posting is generally part of this world wide web territory and does encourage interesting dialog and allows some people to post that might not do so otherwise, positive and negative. Most importantly, there is NO real way to tell who is who anyway, unless you are logged in and registered with blogger posting under your screen name so really, what is the point.

In summary, Blog Mom can do as she wishes bouncing people or comments or whatever, but everyone else needs to get over themselves, frankly, and deal with what comes. Including me.

On that note, I LOVED Oscar's expressions, he did such a wonderful job. I'm sure, even though acting, with Maracuya's pasties wobbling in his face it wasn't too hard to make those expressions!

Calamity Cakes you are really very funny and give us great line after great line. Thanks for the recap, just an added joy to watching the program.

Yes, of course I'm posting anonymously...

Wow well all I want to say is hey is it jest me or does anyone else think that guy that shot out the window looks like Voldemort from the Harry Potter movies? I mean he kind of has that whole reptilian (or snake) thing going.

I just realized I didn't watch the second half of the episode, so I still haven't seen the shot yet!

So they busted out his window, eh? Oooooooh they're so scary!

I'm sure those windows would pay up if they could.

Yes Beckster I believe he does look a little reptilian. Was that Coyote who shot him? It seems to me that if you took a shotgun and shot out someone's window on the driver's side that it would be nearly impossible to miss the driver's head. Am I mistaken? :)

Yes, that's true Connie! It looked like the way that Coyote (should be Culebra) shot the window out, Furd would've been hit. But, miraculously he escaped without a scratch. Maybe he has to be killed with a stake...
jb

Or a silver bullet. Or maybe both! That would be too easy though. I think he needs to die in a spectacular and horrendous way. They same with Crabi. I be if you looked the word "Bruja" up in the dictionary there would just be a picture of her!

Sorry typo--bet not be.

Connie,

You're going to see a picture of her in tonight's recap.

I shall say no more.

*innocent whistling*

Hmmmm, I can't wait. I can only imagine.

I finally watched the youtube video..Oscar looked like a bobble-head doll..LOL. I wondered why we missed the whole performance and then went to Rosario. I thought there was a glitch in my TV.

Just home from an overnight trip, so late in getting to the recap. And what a recap it was! Thanks for all the details and clever summations, Jardinera.
Also enjoyed the comments, with impressive analysis and humor.
More imput on La Esposa Virgen, which was the first TN I watched: In addition to Jorge, Adela and Sergio Sendel, there were lots of good minor characters and crazy stuff. Sergio spent part of the show in a wheel chair, part on horseback, and most of it in uniform. Muy caliente! He actually got to play a mixed bad guy/good guy. There was also his evil mother, some crazy guy hiding out in the woods, the winsome child (Adela's young brother), the faithful family maid, the doctor's (Jorge's) wife, who died from some tragic disease, but made a ghostly visit back (?). It did have that same dreamy unreality that FELS has. I thought it was fun.
La Paloma

Beckster and Connie: I always mentally call the Reptilian Guy "The Blonde Skull Guy" because...oh wait, he does sort of look like Voldemort, with slits for eyes, etc.
But, for an enforcer, he certainly is long on patience and short on knee-cap breaking.
I think I'd rather face Feo in a dark alley than that one!
"Creemelo"

Funny recap, thanks Cakes, and thanks so much for posting the link to the "real" scene. It all makes soooo much more sense now!!! I hate inconcruent censorship. Have I mentioned that before? :) Yes.... anyway, thanks again.

Even though I needn't see Niurka's what ever you wanna call 'em for the umteenth time (She actually performed this same song on Cristina, in an equally revealing get up, so I saw those things live...heee...it was worth watching the whole thing to see Oscar and Marcia er, I mean Jimena ;) make faces at each other. Too funny.

I forgot you saw them... er, I mean her, at Cristina last year. Wow. Hard to believe it's been more than a year.

OK, I just reviewed Friday's episode, and yeah, we could definitely call the big boss's head good "Voldemort."

I suppose that leaves open the question of what we would call Voldemort's boss. Until we actually see him (I don't think we have? Are we going to be shocked when we do?) I've been thinking of him as Jabba the Hutt.

Hi, Somebody asked me to keep you all up on when the Fuego en la Sangre music tour was going to start -- the Esmas site has a brief interview with Salvador Mejia, who says they are running a bit behind, but that the musical tour will open on August 15 in Chicago. 20 US cities followed by 20 Mexican cities -- only Chicago named so far.

Hi all, I will not shut this blog down due to any irascible commenters, anonymous or otherwise - I will only shut the blog down if irascible comments cause my bloggers to quit. They get quite indignant, upset, etc. sometimes when it seems they are unappreciated. I WILL delete any comments brought to my attention as being ungrateful or gratuitously negative.

Thanks, PanQue - I'll stick that in my recap with credit to you.
