Fuego, Wed., Aug. 20: If only they hadn't re-connected Franco to that little machine...

Buenas noches a todos.

Attention all recap readers/recappers/anyone else: Next week I go back to school, and therefore I do not anticipate having the time or energy to do recaps. Is anyone willing to take over for me? Thank you.

We start tonight from the hospital where Gabi tells Sofia that she is going to marry Fernie. Sofia is incredulous. Gabi reminds her that now she is free to marry that idiotic baker of hers. It seems that everyone is on board with Gabi and Fernie’s getting hitched. Sanctimonious Sofia, as I like to call her, reproaches her (mother?) for marrying Fernie when Bernie hasn’t even been in the ground for a year. Gee, the way things have been going on around here you’d think we spent three years watching Juan baking Sofia Bread and seeking revenge.

Padre Tadeo, too, reproaches Fernie for attempting to marry Gabi. Fernie assures the Padre that there aren’t any other men in the world quite like him. Padre tells him that he certainly is unlike anyone he has ever met, and is unbelievably evil. Fernie mentions that he is going to voluntarily divorce Sofia.

At the hospital Gabi chats with Eva about Eva being Soifa’s mother. Eva tells Gabi that she better be careful with her moments of indiscretion, such as the one in which she told Sofia about her “mother,” because they can prove to be dangerous.

Coach Quinti is giving Jimena lessons in house-cleaning. Jimena isn’t sure about this cleaning business; she even has blisters on her hands!

Fernie wants to know why the hell the cabaret workers have come to visit Rosario. He tells Rosario that the cabaret is losing money, and therefore it is time for her to get out of the hospital and back to dancing. Rosario fights back and tells Fernie that if he keeps bothering her she is going to tell Eva and Gabriela the truth—whatever it is, I don’t know.

So Juan has brought Sofia back home, and everyone is happy to see her again. Everything Quinti has prepared looks delicious. We even have quirky animation as the Reyes bros. kiss Quinti. Everyone sits down to eat, but Juan gets upset that no one has washed his or her hands. Marketing time! Sofia gives a pitch about some pill that pregnant women can take to alleviate the pains of pregnancy.

Fernie has paid a visit to the clinic where Franco resides. Even when he is unconscious and on death’s door he doesn’t fail to show us his strategically-revealed thighs and tighty-whiteys. Fernie caresses Franco’s limp body, and whattaya know?; Franco sits straight up. Uh oh, it was only short lived and now he has flat-lined—literally. Without noticing that Fernie was there, the doctor and the nun find Franco in bed, and have to re-connect a wire to the machine that keeps him alive.

We see Armando and Raquel talking. Raquel has a problem with the Reyes bros. and her ranch. She needs to find Fernie, but he’s not around, and besides he’s planning a wedding with Gabi. Raquel is crushed.

Gabi is practicing her accounting skills. She realizes that two bank statements don’t coincide. She sees Fernie and asks him why. He freaks out about her not trusting him, just like Sofia. After he cools down he apologizes and admits that the figures don’t match. Of course, it was that darn Oscar’s fault.

Juan and Oscar are visiting Franco in the clinic as he wakes up and acknowledges their presence. He doesn’t remember anything, as usual, and is introduced to Pedro. Oh looky, Juan brought Franco a toy horse. For somebody who doesn’t remember anything, Franco has an amazing ability to remember that when he first woke up he saw Fernie. Maybe it was a dream…

Fernie is drinking tequila at the bar when Raquel surprises him with a slap; “damn liar!” she yells.

The doctor at the clinic reminds the bros. that their brother is confused and it is doubtful that Fernie actually came to visit him. Oscar asks if his brother is going to be more stupid than before. Clinically, that is impossible.

Raquel is grappling with Fernie, cussing at him, etc. He drags her out to the truck. She demands that he return the money he borrowed. She cries and cries as he drives off.

Jimena is busying mopping the floor, which she says she likes doing, as she answers the door to find her mother. Gabi relates that the Reyes bros. needed a maid and they got one for free. “What a mess you are!” Gabi says as she lists all of Jimena’s unattractive physical traits. Now Jimena is only a shadow of what she used to be…

Now even Quinti is a baker. It’s not like you exactly need credentials to bake with the Reyes… The bros. come home and tell her that Franco is going to be fine. She kisses the boys and we see the tacky hearts and stars appear on the screen.

Jimena explains to Gabi that she likes to do the housework, and that she is a wife to Oscar, not his obligated maid. Gabi explains that she didn’t come to talk to the maid, but instead the good-for-nothing Oscar. Oscar enters and tells Gabi that he is good for something; he takes care of and loves her daughter. Don’t make her laugh.

Shirts-optional time in the bakery! Why the hell does Pedro take his shirt off? Apparently he thinks he has something none of us has. Well, considering the length of his chest hair, I would say it’s fairly remarkable, but then again, an animal can grow hair… He tells Juan that he leads a lonely life, gets all sentimental, Juan reassures him, and he goes back to baking something.

Gabi tells Oscar that he is a robber and is going to rot in prison for embezzling money from the ranch. She brings him a check that is more money than he ever hoped to see in his entire dirty life. She gives him the check so that he will free Jimena. Gabi needs her at home because she is very sick and needs someone to care for her. Oscar admits that he has never seen so much money, but Jimena’s love doesn’t have a price. He explains to Gabi that he is poor, but proud, and certainly would never steal anything. He says that Fernie can’t be trusted and points out his questionable qualities. Gabi busts a cap about Oscar having a nerve to judge her hubby. Oscar tells her that she can visit Jimena whenever she wants, but she can not come to his house to insult him. Gabi says that his dignity doesn’t mean anything and that Jimena will return home very soon.

Jimena tells Oscar that she heard what Gabi told him. She is worried about her mother needing a nurse/slave. She cries as Oscar reminds her how much he loves her.

At the clinic Rosario is with her son. Eva tells Rosario that Franco has opened his eyes and is talking. The doctor tells her that both she and Franco will be leaving today.

Fernie takes Raquel to some parking lot and parks. No, it’s not one of those scenes…! He explains to her that he is marrying Gabi to get her off his case. Since Raquel is married he couldn’t marry her, so he had to choose Gabi. Did anyone else notice that she has purple hair? It’s not auburn… Anyway, Fernie somehow convinced the blithering idiot that he loves her and then he kisses her. Whattaya know?; Gabi pulls-up as they are kissing. Raquel crouches down and Fernie explains that he is having car problems. Gabi has something to tell him and it can’t wait. She gets out of the car…

Jimena is having trouble with the idea that Gabi and Fernie are getting hitched. Then again, that would mean that Sofia and Juan could get married, and therefore Jimena gets to plan a wedding. Now she’s happy.

Fernie gets Gabi to go back to the car and he, too, gets in with her. She tells him that Oscar pretended to not know anything about the bank statements and even kicked her out.

Sofia is talking about marrying Juan and how happy they will be together. There is going to be a double wedding because Jimena and Oscar still need to get married in the church. Sarita is eavesdropping again and is jealous. Of course we know that there will actually be a triple wedding, at least, which will closely resemble the one in La Madrastra. Sarita says that she still loves Franco, but Gabi told her that she has to marry Benito or return to the convent. Now it’s a sad day when Sofia and Jimena have, pardon the expression, the balls to tell Sarita to suck it up and ignore anything Gabi says. This conversation is proof positive that Sarita has failed in upholding her bookish character. Just as Sarita is admitting her love for Franco, Rosario walks in to listen to every word she says. Sarita complains that she doesn’t have anyone who cares about her or loves her. She is just like the girl who stands in front of the mirror and her friends complaining about how fat she is so that her friends will call her skinny. Schmuck…

The Reyes bros. also heard what Sarita said. They didn’t have a clue that she still loves Franco. They say that Franco is confused because in his heart he loves Sarita, but in his head he likes Rosario. Juan asks Pedro if he really loves Sarita or if he is just playing with her emotions. Pedro says that he does love her, but she can only love Franco, which upsets him.

Tomorrow: Gabi takes out her fury on Sarita for leaving the convent, and then gives her the boot! But that’s not all; evidence that links Fernie to raping Sofia is now in the hands of Raquel!

Nicolas: Thanks for the fast recap.

Why would Grabi think that Oscar embezzled money? When did they ever let him go near a check book??
Feo has really learned that love is blind.

Funny scene with Raquel scrunching down in the car. As an older woman, I have to protest. Are we as stupid or as pathetic as Grabi and raquel when it comes to men. Eva would be a good role model, if she stopped crying at everything.

Chest hair or not --Pedro Reyes is sweet and I wouldn't mind him ending up with Sarita.

When Grabi complained about needing Jimena to nurse her, I didn't think Jimena was taken in or guilty. I think she has finally figured out who her mother is, as has sofia. Now it is Sarita's turn.

Can anyone explain why Grabi was crying after she visited Sofia to tell her the news of her marriage to Feo?

Nicolas, Thanks for the very rapid and very complete recap. Do you write your recap while you are watching? By hand or computer? I am trying to do it on computer and I'm getting better. When it works I mostly have to go back to correct my touch typing errors because I am watching the TV instead of the computer screen.

Regarding your return to school next week: Does Melinama know? As you may know, I am riding herd this week so to speak. Can you cover next Wednesday or get a sub?

Feo is really up to his canine teeth in troubles, finally. It couldn't happen to a more deserving guy but he does manage to full most of the fools most of the time. Gabi and Raqui are giving us older women a bad name being such blind believers in this gigolo.

Make that "fool most of the fools most of the time."

Hilarious, Nick! That machine wasn't keeping Franco alive though. It was just his heart monitor, showing us that he's alive.

It came loose when Franco sat up - that's why he "flatlined" and why the doctor didn't seem concerned when he saw the wire had come off.

But let's not tell Feo that, shall we? I sort of like the idea that Feo's attempted like four or five unsuccessful hits on Franco... I want him to conclude that the fuzzy one is indestructible.

1. Beating him up in the woods, followed by henchmens' orders to drown Franco... Franco is buoyed to the lagoon's surface by Libia's ghost

2. Setting Franco on fire

3. Smothering him with a pillow

4. Whatever he was planning to do to him today

Did I miss anything? There was also the time he and Armando framed the brothers for murder, but I'm not sure if I consider that a hit attempt or not.

Thanks for the great recap, Nicolas. I'm back home from my trip and actually got to watch this episode tonight. Hooray. I think. LOL

Sorry I can't help out with recaps. My Spanish comprehension is 50%. No computer access all day, until now, so I'll post my resume..... I studied for 5 years in high school, back when dinosaurs roamed the earth, and then lost it all over the following 25+ years. "Use it or lose it" really is true. Ten years ago, I started taking classes again due to the increasing Latino population in our area. I was doing volunteer work answering crisis calls at a battered womens' shelter and figured if a Spanish speaker called, nobody would be able to help. I never lived in nor visited a Spanish-speaking country, except when I spent 3 days at Los Cabos, where speaking spanish did come in handy. I count on telenovelas to help since there are few classes available at my level, in my area. I try to not use the closed captions when I watch because I end up reading more than listening. Argh. I need the 'ear training.'

Did any of you notice that Daisy Duke was mopping the floor with a dry mop? That floor was not wet. She needs a tutor. Ack.

Sophia needs to get her priorities in order. Pretty funny . "Dad hasn't been dead a year so you can't marry my husband that you are hitting, even though I am pregnant by the local baker and it would be nice to finally have that annulment." "Of course lots of things would be nice to have;A phone,a haircut, maternity clothes, a decent lipstick, the name of my birth mother. The little things.

It's hilarious that Crabi would think that Oscar has the expertise to fiddle with their books and rip them off, considering she thinks he's not smart enough to work a spoon.

I'm curious: we have people here who say the recaps help them with their Spanish. Are there any people who use them to improve their English?

Raquel was having a hard time while she was scrunched down in the car. There are times when she isn't that bad looking though. Gabi on the other hand... Eh no. Eww.

You guys notice fernando trying to turn up the volume on the radio in the suv that is not on? Blooper right here.

Interesting thing too is that Jimena has that big rabbit's foot on her bag. :)

Ibarramedia

Thanks Nic..
I'd do the recap for you, but I am getting Thurs nights once "Guapos" ends..I am counting the angst days.

The baking scene was indeed disgusting, BigFoot Bakes.

I can't believe dumbass Jimena listened to that vicious conversation and feels sorry for her mother? Hello isn't Fer going to give her mother that so needed tender lovely care?

Sarita bores me to death, it is like, once I ate a chocolate bar...ummmmmm it was so good, now I will never eat candy again.
STFU.

How come Rosario is the "bad" person, she was hitting Franco when Sarita was sitting swinging at Pinatas. Okay so that was just like three months ago. Jeez, if people always married their first crushes, the marrying age would be twelve..move on

Nic: Great recap. I'll miss your keen sense of humor.

Anyway, anon, I think Crabi's crying was just another of her sociopathic acts. She doesn't care for Sofia - she was playing to the crowd.

Also, I think Jimena now has her mother's number. She wasn't giving her any sympathy. She said Crabi just wants me to return home because she needs a nurse - not because she loves me.

And, yeah, when did Oscar ever have access to buying/selling or the cooked books at Mansion San Augustin? We can't expect Crabi to figure that out since she's totally crazy and should be committed for life. Anyone in her right mind would notice that there are too many discrepancies around anything Feo has touched and that his explanations are too quick and perfect. Oh, well, love is blind and stupid in this case.

Man, I missed a good one last night! Raqui hiding from Crabi, Crabi being, well, crabby, and Pedro wearing a sweater to bake bread. What a show!

If I were Franco, I'd wake up soon because at this point, the story is moving on with or without him.

Julie: funny, how Crabi's twisted little mind works. Oscar is both dumb AND smart...wow. She's such a rocket scientist herself, isn't she?

Nicolas: thanks for the recap & hope you check in on the lunacy every now & again. We'll miss your humorous take on life in Brigadoom/Disneyland/Nuclear Waste Dump.

Maggie

I think that staying comatose has been Franco's best defense to being in FELS.

Sofia/AN looked really strange last night, with foundation makeup and no eye makeup nor lippy. Her skin must be bad, or she'd have gone totally natural, like Laura Flores in ADCLG.

Thanks for the recap Nic. I only got to watch part of it this morning but it sounds like a good one. I will check it out tonight.

I think Feo was the only one to read the test results and since everything that comes out of his mouth is a lie, how do we know what the real results were?

Thanks for the recap Nicholas. What are you studying? I know your humorous recaps will be missed and though the show can vex you, I hope you stop by in the future.

ITA with you Connie. Feo probably did lie about Crabi's test results. And it is painful how dumb both she and Raquel are acting.

Hi Cheryl! I type my recaps on a laptop during the show. Not to worry--I can still recap until a replacement is in place.

Karen--I'll be a senior in high school, but I take 15 credit hours at a local university through the state's Post Secondary Enrollment Option. Perhaps my favorite class this semester will be Latin-American Film!

I wonder how long it takes for the donkey to deliver the mail (and said test results)in Brigadoon?

They are going to need a bigger table at the casa de Reyes. How many are living there now? I think they are going to have to expand. Although, since they have to share one bathroom the boys are going to have to shower together with the broken shower curtain.

Where does Eva live? Does she now live with Augie?

I just found this sadly bitter, but refreshingly honest (and apparently real) obituary of a woman who clearly was not beloved by her daughters. I doubt that Crabi's will be as nice.

Can married couples sleep in bunk beds? Because the Reyes are going to need them.

So Feo was fiddling with the radio. I couldn't figure out what he was trying to do. I thought maybe it was the air conditioning controls but it didn't seem to be helping!

When I was watching the ever expanding family last night I remember, in Mexico people just add a second story, all the houses are basically concrete blocks with a stucco or finish on top (or not), so instead of screwing around all the time, being stupid and more stupid, build a second floor.

Also in very small living spaces they do have bunk beds, many, many, bunk beds.

They will be getting their hacienda back (I hope) so then there will be room for everybody including all the animals. Will Jimena still have to clean floors?! :}

WOW Nicolas, it's amazing to me that you're still in high school.
You are wise beyond your years, and with your snarky sense of humor I hope you consider some sort of writing career! Jenna T.

Is it common for families to live altogether in the hacienda and raise their kids together etc. or is that just for TV?

Wow, Nicolás. Talk about impressive backgrounds! I would never have guessed you were not already in some profession. Surely you will be a fabulous success with your wit and wisdom and extreme intelligence, no matter what you choose to go into.

I would love to know what the syllabus includes in your Latin American film class. I enjoyed two courses at the Cervantes Institute on Spanish Film. The professor, from Asturias was completing her doctorate at UNM so she got incredible films for us to see. I use Netflix which has hundreds of Spanish language films. Argentina, Mexico, Venezuela and Colombia seem to make the most and the best but I am always looking for new ones. Aldomóvar, del Toro and Iñaritu are my favorite film makers currently.

Good job Nicolas. One of my sons rebelled against learning a language in school and ended up a Korean linguist for the military. Ironic.
We should all understand why Raquel was hiding from Gabriela, she likes her face the way it is.mhm

I thought it was funny when Oscar was at the hacienda, his face was ALWAYS covered with dirt and grime, but before he went, and since he came back, his is the cleanest Reyes face of all!

Also, no one ever scrubbed the floors or hand washed the clothes (that we saw), but now Jimena has to do it non-stop!

Wasn't Quintina the mother of Tomas Mora in LFMB, and had a funny scene where she taught her new daughter-in-law, Alicia, a spoiled, fashion-conscious girl of perfect fingernails, the fine art of baking a cake? The scene with Jimena reminded me of that.

Yes, Quintina is the former "Tomasa" (Tomasita?), who was able to light an oven without blowing it up. :)

Julie: I couldn't believe how incredibly sad the obituary was! The woman must have been horrible - my heart is sad for all the hurt she left her family.

Regarding Crabi's test results - they must be bad since Feo immediately proposed marriage! He will soon have it all, Gramps, Crabi's and Raqui's moola!

Doris, I agree that Sofia looked like she had pancake makeup on last night, ugh.

Telenovelera in AZ

Nic, awesome recap!

Okay, what kind of HMO hospital is it that sends these people home as soon as they wake up? Franco was been in a coma for weeks, but his eyes are open now and we need the bed! And when a monitor flat lines isn't it supposed to alert someone? What is the point of having a monitor on someone if you have to be in the room when they code???

Pedro, put a shirt on when you bake, gross! He's a cutie, but I am not eating anything he makes!

Julie, I read the recap to improve my sarcasm. LOL

That obituary was amazing. Fair warning to all you BadMoms out there...someone else WILL have the final word.

Doris, I thought Sofia looked like she had been dredged in the flour bucket at the bakery, didn't she seem doughy and in need of some baking or frying to give her some color back!

Someone commented on Jimena's mop being dry but I also noticed that the bucket had only about 3 or 4 inches of water. Even so, when Gabriela kicked it, spilling water always looks more voluminous than it really is. Maybe the floors got washed in the aftermath.

Best wishes in school Nicholas. I hope you do like your film class; I'm a professor of film and tv so I really want you to have a good experience.

I missed Gabi "kicking the bucket." Sadly, I probably would have missed the visual pun anyway. :)

I want to add my voice to the praise for Nicolás. We've really enjoyed your recaps. Your sarcasm fits right in here. And I also thought you were much older. We'll miss you when you get too busy for this blog.

Me too! I didn't realize you were in high school. Your blogger profile gave your age, but I thought that was a joke!

You are too young to be so funny. In a few years you'll be really dangerous!

I want to add my good wishes for a bright future to young Nicolas! You are already a seasoned observer of human nature, we will miss you in the recapper's bullpen.
Julie: ROFL at Gabi thinking Oscar's ripping them off when she also thinks he's not bright enough to operate a spoon.
Ay de mi.
"Creemelo"

mhm, I was a Korean linguist in the military too. When was your son at DLI? I was there 77-78 (I'm showing my age).

Nicolás, tan impresivo! I didn't think high schoolers learned how to write nowadays. You've proven me wrong. (By chance is there some alternative education in your background?) The night you wrote your first recap, I posted that you already were recapping as well as the best of them. I assumed you were in your mid-20's.

My son is officially in high school but taking his classes at the cmty college as well. It has worked out well, and he feels like he's making much better use of his time there. I wish you the best.

Caray caray! who'dve thought you are such a young man Nicolas? I also thought you were in your 20s and will miss your snarking recaps -- Hope you'll drop in to comment when not too busy!
PanQue

Thank you FELS...Our prayers were answered...we got a shower scene and a swimming scene all in the same episode! :-}

Paula, My son is in the AF now. His wife is a linguist, too.A good friend of my dad's was head of the DLI but I'm not sure when.
I spoke German as a little girl, took French in school and then flunked High School Spanish.I later became an interpreter for the Deaf and went to live in Mexico to study at a University there.Later living in California I would occasionally use the Spanish. I kept it up by watching Novelas.I've never watched with captions. I do put Spanish captions on when I watch movies in English. My favorite was a Brazilian one dubbed in Spanish.I a can't for the life of me remember its name.Once in a while I've interpreted between Sign Language and Spanish.Currently I work with disabled students.
