Pasión de Gavilanes, Mon., Aug. 4 - Feliz Cumpleaños Juan David!!!

First, some pics from Friday's episode:

Leonidas gives Melissa a serenata. What the heck is Benito wearing?

Poor Leonidas. I think Leandro was a little too mean. Melissa seemed to enjoy the serenata.

'You didn't have anything to do with Feonando 'slipping on the stairs,' did you?'

Norma lies to Juan about what's going on at the Hacienda.

Óscar and Jimena receive the Fruit Sons in Óscar's 'office.'

Óscar calls Jimena in for a consulation.

Monday's Episode:

Rosario fails Dínora's evil school by refusing to shoot Sarita

An over-the-top party for a one-year old

Blowing out the candle

Dancing with mom and dad

Juan: For my beloved son in his first year, with all my heart - his first horse.

Happy family

Ruth takes the group photo

Grabiela is devastated that she can't have her own birthday party for Juan David. Does she have to do it on his birthday? Couldn't she have a party on another day?

Thanks for the heads up on the 1 hour episodes this week, Margarita. I should have guessed as much when they start a new novela.

Oooh, great pictures, Jean! Thanks so much for posting them!

I just have to say that my son and his wife were here Friday and I had on PdG, they sat down and ended up watching the WHOLE SHOW! You maybe recall I had posted a couple weeks ago lamenting how I couldn't get anybody in my real life to show a bit of interest in any telenovelas (they don't even care about Mario!). I had forced my son and his wife to watch parts of the PdG DVD but they weren't impressed. When PdG was finished I said, "Ha! You're hooked! Now you'll have to get a TV and watch every day!" They just rolled their eyes and laughed (they don't even own a TV!). They must have half-way liked it to sit through the whole show. I think they especially enjoyed Juan David, and were shocked when I said the baby is really a girl. Anyway, it was nice to have somebody to share this show with, even if it was only for one episode!

Thanks for the pix Jean =) Yes, Crabiela is indeed insane because a) she assumed her daughters knew she wanted to throw JD a party - did she send them to clarvoyance camp as kids? b) she tried to prohibit him from going when his mom was right there! c) she had the nerve to be offended when they were kind enough to invite her. Not sure if a different party would have worked since the Reyes had already partied with the bulk of the town's children.

Cindy, for better or worse, not everyone is as addicted to television as we are ;) Back in college, and for a few years afterwards, I managed to stay away from television (unless I was visiting mom, then it was the best way to avoid uncomfortable topics!) I started watching again many years ago (Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Ally McBeal sucked me in) and once I moved to the burbs, there just wasn't as much to do, so I got sucked back in (insert Godfather theme here). I know it sucks not to have someone nearby to share your guilty pleasures (hardly any of my friends speak Spanish and my friend who's trying to learn refuses to watch TNs), but it's probably healthier for them not to spend all their time in front of the boob tube... I myself am up to 7 hours a day! My name is Margarita, and I...am a TV addict.

I was actually surprised nobody else had thought about celebrating any sooner. Juan got all upset about his family getting a present for his kid, why hadn't he thought about it? Is it 'cause he doesn't have a day planner? Not to be a party pooper, but what was he smoking when he decided that a pony would be a good idea for a ONE-year-old? Kid can barely keep his balance when he's walking! Just saying...

Did anyone catch baby JD waving when they were singing Happy Birthday? I think his wrangler was the guy in stilts.

Jean, throwing a bucket of water at guys bringing you an unwanted serenade is as old as bringing serenades. The other option is dropping potted plants on them. Yes Melissa liked it, but Leo is just not getting the message that no means no. Years ago a friend told me that telling a guy you just want to be friends is not direct enough, because it still gives them hope they will convince you someday. Boys are silly like that. Melissa tried the gentle approach, but a little tough love might be what's called for, and the boys (hers and his) might just be the ones to give him that tough love.

So what exactly will it take for Gabi to put her foot down and fire Malcolm and Carmela? She's finally realized they are no good, but God forbid she make a decision without Fernie!!

I loved the birthday party episode, but as has been mentioned already, the party was quite over the top for a one-year-old. Chalk it up to the enthusiasm of new money, I guess. ;-)

I smiled at your photos, Jean, as several were exactly the same shots I captured off YouTube. There was one incredibly adorable shot I couldn’t get, of Norma holding Juan David in the pony’s saddle with Juan crouched next to them. Juan first buried his face in JD’s little tummy and all we could see was Juan’s mass of dark curls under JD’s gaze. Juan then lifted his head & smiled up at JD, who gave the sweetest little smile right back. It looked like the first moment of true connection between the two of them that I’ve ever seen. Too darn cute. Unfortunately, just at the ‘smile’ moment on the YouTube clip, a banner ad pops up & fills up the entire lower half of the screen, so it makes a pretty bad screen shot. :-(

I, too, was a little surprised by the reactions of Gabriela and Juan to the news of the party. Grandmother or not, it blows me away to think that Gabriela could feel justified in one iota of entitlement to host a party. That attitude takes a lot of nerve, but I guess that’s one thing she has plenty of.

And Juan getting so upset with Oscar & Jimena for providing him with a gift to give Juan David took me aback a little. I can see where he’d want to choose his own gift (once he remembered the upcoming birthday!), but I’d have hoped he’d be a little more gracious to O & J for looking out for him. Then, the gift he does choose is typically male-executed (in my experience), meaning supremely well-intentioned, but less than well thought out. ;-) You’re right on Margarita; as lovely a gift as a pony is, it’s definitely not for a one-year old. I think a nice big toy truck painted to look like Juan’s would’ve been ideal. ;-)

I haven’t seen all of the Friday episode yet, so not sure what else happened besides Rosario being decent by not killing Sara, and the serenata with all Los Santos in their jammies. (Cute!) Somehow I don’t think Leonidas will be dissuaded by the water bath. Thank God it wasn’t a potted plant. (Ouch!)

Regarding Carmela & Malcolm: Margarita, even if Gabriela did put her foot down and fire them, I bet they wouldn’t leave seeing as how they seem to only take orders from Fernando. I seriously can barely stand to watch these two; they make me so ill.

My opportunities to stay caught up these days are sporadic, so I had some time yesterday & watched ahead a little to stay current. Too bad there’s only one hour a day on this week. There’s a lot of good stuff coming up so it’ll be that much harder to wait for! ;-)
