Pasión de Gavilanes: Thurs., Aug. 21 - Abuelo meets the Fruit Lady at the sanatorium; Grabi's life goes from bad to worse; Juan breaks his leg
First, an announcement. According to this NBC/Telemundo online schedule:
http://nbcumv.com/telemundo/listings.nbc?month=2008-09&start_time=1200
this rebroadcast of PdG will end on Friday, Sept. 12 and the following Monday, Telemundo will start rebroadcasting Mario's second novela for TM: El Cuerpo del Deseo, also for 2 hours/day.
I missed the last half hour of yesterday's episode since everything on TM was running a half hour behind unknown to my TiVo.
Don Martín settles in at the sanatorium and is conned by Feo's evil cousin into trusting him. But Hortensia, the fruit lady, seeks him out and doubtless they will eventually discover what they have in common.
Poor Grabiela. Now she knows her father isn't at the Hacienda. It seems to me that now that Abuelo knows about Dínorah, Feonando could bring Don Martín back to the Hacienda and keep him and Grabi in line by threats to harm the other. Having Don Martín at the sanatorium is extremely risky.
Of course, Sarita, Ruth and Antonio's sneaky visit to the Hacienda gives them a false sense that everything is ok.
During filming of the novela, Mario hurt his foot in motorcycle accident and that was written into the story with the Juan breaking his leg story. If the injury made someone as strong as Juan beg to be taken to the hospital, it seemed kind of strange that everyone stood around talking and poking at him for so long. How on earth would they have gotten someone with a broken leg in the back seat of Franco's jeep with Norma? Mario obviously wasn't filmed at the same time as the rest of them but there isn't much room in the back of a jeep.

Thanks for the post Jean =) I just love tidbits of trivia, like a real injury (or pregnancy in Pepa's case) being written into the storyline.
You missed Gabi running into Malcolm in Martin's room (wearing the uniform no less) and realizing they've been fooling her. Feo covers up telling her that Martin drank too much and had to be hospitalized for alcohol poisoning.
I agree with your comment that it would have made more sense to bring Marting back, but they probably realize that he would spend his time screaming or trying to get to a phone so he can call for help. Off course, they could have locked up Gabi and Martin together to keep a closer watch and not have to deal with two rooms.
Thanks for the heads up on PdG ending and Deseo starting. And here I thought I was thru with daytime TNs after this one, but how can I possibly resist Mario at his yummiest?! That and I'm curious to see Mario playing Andres Garcia. Both are excellent actors, and I'm sure they worked a while together to get the character just right.
I may need to bail after PdG is over, since I don’t get Telemundo and “Cuerpo” is not available online in it’s entirety as far as I know. I’m considering buying a bootleg copy and keeping up with you all on a daily basis, should a discussion group decide to continue. (Are you considering that, Jean?). From what I have seen the plot and cast look good, but I’m not sure it rates a “keeper”, $100 price tag notwithstanding. My main issue is actually the 2 hours/day schedule, which is a killer for me so I haven’t decided for sure what I’ll do yet. I don’t get much time during the week now to watch PdG so I have to zoom ahead on weekends & coast till Sat., and that strategy won’t work once the summer’s over, so I’ve got to think about it a bit…
I had the very same thoughts, Jean, regarding Juan’s injury & the transport to the hospital. I also wondered why when he was in such extreme pain they all sat around circling like chickens before finally getting going. Then, putting him in Franco’s Jeep was just ludicrous. Had Mario & Danna both really been in the scene together, there’s no way they’d have both fit in the backseat of a Jeep with him having to put his injured leg up. Oddly enough, it wasn’t that so much that caught my radar as the fact that they had separate head shots, with Norma kissing only Juan’s hand rather than his face, which for these two is a dead giveaway that they’re not in the scene at the same time.
Another little trivia item: The plot has Juan's injury the result of the horse he was riding acting up & falling on him, something that actually DID happen to Danna García while filming a telenovela in Mexico a few years ago. She was injured - not sure if it was her leg, though - and spent a week in the hospital, resulting in her fear of riding since then. (I think we’ve only seen her physically on a horse once in this whole show, during a slow, group ride.)
Marie Celeste, there was a scene early on in PdG where Norma almost ran over Juan, but it might have been a stuntwoman. I can't remember if there were any close-ups on the horse.
I have no idea how many episodes of "Deseo" are on YouTube, but there were a lot the last time I checked. I had actually thought about trying to watch it from what You Tube had, but I never checked for sure if the whole thing was there.
As for Danna's riding injury, that story is included in the extras on the official DVD. In a little "Secrets of PdG" segment, they refer to the scene you mention, Margarita - where Norma almost runs over Juan. A stunt rider was used in the shot that showed the horse hitting Juan. But the secret is that for Danna's closeup - where she pulls the reins up just before hitting Juan -what you don't see is that she's actually riding on the shoulders of one of the crew members, not on a horse. Here's a link to that clip of the extras. (Danna's story starts at 4:40 & is only a minute long.) It's cute:

It's interesting how Dana's injury made her afraid of horse's, and Mario's injury made him want to make them all ride on their hind legs ;) Both are perfectly valid reactions, though I suspect I'd be in Dana's camp (never learned how to ride a bike, and I'm ok with that). Years ago, when I worked at a Ren Faire, one guy started jouster training. His mom, who was from an area with plenty of horses, mostly rodeos, said if he was ever truly injured by one, she hoped he died. Lest you think she was a callous witch, this was a couple of year's after Christopher Reeve's accident, and she was quite aware of the devastating injuries that can result from a bad fall, especially if the animal proceeds to trample you or falls on you. I'm not saying we should stay away from things that are dangerous (I recently jumped out of a perfectly good airplane and would do it again if it wasn't so expensive) but it makes sense to develop a healthy respect for them.
