Querida Enemiga Thurs 8/21 - Once upon a time a prince turned into a boar and an ogre turned into a prince.

Ahoy all, I was lured out tonight to go see a fascinating Frida Kahlo exhibit preceded by a wonderful classic Mexican film "Aventurera". I didn't get home until quite late so if the recap is slightly more brief than usual that's my excuse. (Big thanks to recapper Kris for turning me onto this delightful exhibit and film.) By the way, I highly recommend the film and it can be ordered through Netflix. You might have heard that Carmen Salinas now produces a stage revue of Aventurera that tours Mexico and the US and features many of our favorite telenovela stars.

Enough culture, on with the show...

Sara viciously bitches out Zulema for putting her abuela in prison. Lorena sticks up for Zully, hooray Lorena, and then comforts Zully when Sara stomps off.

Vasco visits his pa in jail and says it was easy to say dad should pay but now it hurts to see him behind bars. Jaime says he wants to stop playing the coward and pay his dues like a real man.

Zully's in tears because she thought finding her daughter would make her happy, instead it's only lead to difficulties. Lorena says Sara has changed, she doesn't know her anymore. Zully feels bad for acting so crappy to Lorena before.

Sara tells herself that maybe she overreacted to Zully. If Snorty and Jaime are in jail, and Vasco is on the outs, then maybe the business can be in her hands! Bwaahaahaaaaaa!

Vasco and Barbara the Red have a moral debate about whether or not Jaime and Snorty should plead guilty for their crime.

The honeymoon couple return home from their trip and Jaqui is in an amazon-size snit, 25 hours on the plane and she hated Thailand and all its stupid temples. I think Dario's having 2nd thoughts about his 2nd marriage.

Bettina pretends to do her homework but instead she's chatting with her friend Lucia. Oops, Ivan butted in while she wasn't looking. He sends her virtual kisses and she thinks he's forward (lanzado).

Jaqui and Dario fight about the stupid crappy gifts he bought in Thailand. She says he's a skinflint (tacaño) and the stuff is too cheap to give to Snorty as a gift. Dario points out Snorty gave them diddly for their wedding.

Sara visits a disconsolate Snorty in jail. She angles to get Snorty to put her in charge of the biz but Snorty says all she can think about is getting the hell out of jail.

Maruja tries to defend Jaime to Zully and guess what, Zully doesn't want to hear about it.

Snorty's lawyer visits her in jail. She says she'll pay him anything to get her out, what's his plan? He says Omar's lawyer is young and inexperienced and they can bribe him to be on their side. Wow, these people think money can buy anything. Snorty says do what it takes.

Random scene where Julian and Rossy deliver food for Zulema. Julian wants to figure out a way to earn more money to help pay for the lawyer.

Diana is at work and she's starting to show. A couple of co-workers snicker a little and end up making her feel guilty for dumping Vasco, he loves her SO much and he was willing to be dad to another guy's baby. And he's not her novio?? Is she loco??

Vasco pines for Diana. Love hurts. Barbara the Red shows up and expresses worry that the company will fall into Sara's hands. For once Babs and I agree.

Jaqui's at work with her Thai elephant statue that she hates. She's ready to give it to Snorty. Ickturo tells her that Snorty's in jail and she drops the poor little heffalump on it's head.

Snorty's slimeball lawyer offers Omar's lawyer (named Joel) lots of money and and a position in his law firm if he will come to the dark side. Does Joel look interested?

Dario brings a present over to Bettina and Paula tells him he looks kind of bad. He's just tired, he says. Tired of your trip or tired of your wife asks Paula? Ouch. She invites him to dinner.

Ickturo tells Jaqui he can get another elephant and much cheaper because it's made in China. He fondles her knee which interests her. She pretends to cry on his shoulder to make sure. Yep, he'd like to do her all right.

Over dinner Paula gleefully figures out Dario had a rotten honeymoon in Thailand. Jaqui phones Dario and then Paula and shrieks like a crazy woman.

Heh, looks like money can't buy everything or everyone. Lawyer Joel tells Omar and Zully that the other camp tried to bribe (sobarnar) him. That's a good sign, they must be worried, but Team Zully still needs to work on their statements so they can convince the judge.

At cooking school Sara tries to get Alonslow's sympathy by telling her Lorena stood up for Zully against her. Al agrees that Lorena shouldn't meddle but Sara's parents are right to go after Snorty. Sara's incredulous. Et tu Brute?

Slimeball lawyer breaks the news to Snorty, Joel couldn't be bribed. But as long as the document that Sara guards stays hidden they have a chance. The only real witness, the nun, is dead.

Sara and Alonslow are having their first little spat when who should appear in the distance but Lorena and Ernesto. "The Maestro is her next victim," Sara snottily says. Alonslow seethes into the commercial; he doesn't even try to hide it.

Sara tries to make Al angry at Lorena but he just gets hurt and irked and leaves. He's still got it bad for Lorena even though he's boinking her best friend. Loser.

The academic tribunal meets over whether or not to give Lorena her grant. They read her essay (and we get to see scenes of a cute, waifish Lorena child) about how she has studied food all her life and preparing food is an act of love for her. She doesn't want to become a famous chef but rather an artist in the kitchen making others happy. The scene finishes with Lorena presenting a brief oral of her vision and dedication. The board is convinced and they give her the grant.

Meanwhile Paty and Rossy plan a protest if Lorena doesn't triumph. But no worries, Lor breaks the news and we see a three-way amiga hug. Word comes for her that the maestro is looking for her in the classroom.

Lorena finds a single red rose and a sweet note signed "The Ogre". Chef Hawt comes in and tells her she earned the grant all on her own. With your help, she says. OK, here it comes, he wants something from her. "Tell me," she says, getting close. "More muffins!" he laughs. (My CC said "Mas Pancakes", hee.)

Diana wants to talk to Vasco so they go have coffee. She tries to explain the old "Bruno is the biological father and we have to try" bit. Diana wants to be his friend through this thing with his dad in jail but Vasco's all "we're not friends I still love you". I give the guy credit though, he's pretty gracious about the whole thing.

Sara and Chalo just did the horizontal bop and halleluja somebody finally has bed head in this show. I mean Chalo of course, no way would Sara's hair be mussed. Guess that means she was on top the entire time and I'm not surprised. Chalo agrees she should make the most of the situation with Snorty and Jaime in jail, starting with why doesn't she spend the night? As usual Sara has a good excuse for not staying so Chalo suggests she at least stay for the "second round". Which she does.

Alonslow visits his sis Paula. He's glad Valeria's hanging with the divorcees because she's a lonely gal. Paula says her job hunt has been a flop but she's going to try to sell beauty products.

Meanwhile Bettina's "doing her homework" again by web-camming with Ivan. Uncle Al surprises her and she slams the laptop shut. Al starts talking, oh I get it, this is a public service announcement about young girls chatting it up with perverts disguised as "invisible friends". Bettina promises him her chat pal really is a friend and not the invisible man.

Dario and Jaqui have another dumb fight. Hmmmm...she's all dolled up in a slutty outfit that looks like a scarlet baby-doll top. She says she has to go to work and flounces out. "At this hour?" wonders Dario.

Snorty's slimeball lawyer visits Jaime and says his and Snorty's stories have to corroborate. If Jaime confesses his guilt the judge could pass sentence very quickly and won't require further proof. Jaime wants to confess and slimeball lawyer tries to talk him out of it.

Maruja tells Lorena that Jaime is a good man who was weak and allowed himself to be manipulated by his mommy. She's ashamed to say this but she wants to see him.

What a surprise, Slutty in Red (Jaqui) drops in on Ickturo at work. She's SO worried about Snorty and the business. Icky says no fear, he won't let the boat sink, she can give him a hand with work if she wants. Instead she gives him an eyeful of thigh. "Gosh you're purty" he drools. I think they're going to do it on the desk tonight.

Sara visits Snorty and makes another attemp at being in charge of the business. Snorty gets kind of PO'ed and says Ickturo is in charge because he has experience.

Next day in the jailhouse...once again Vasco and his odious red mother get into it about nearly every subject, Zuly's low class, Jaime wants a divorce, Barbara is not showing solidarity, etc.

Zully makes her statement to the judge, that Snorty and Jaime stole her child 22 years ago, blah blah blah.

Julian tells Vasco he's 1) sorry about his dad and, 2) very sorry that Diana dumped him for the A-hole Bruno.

Zully continues her story, Snorty and Jaime concocted a fake burial for her baby. Good lawyer Joel hands over some documents and says Snorty must have bribed some doctors but they don't have proof about the bribing, it was too long ago.

Zully cries a good story and it looks like the judges are sympathetic.

Tomorrow: Chalo causes some trouble.

sugfohjnClever clever Sylvia...Prince turned into a boar (read "bore") and an ogre turned into a prince.

Yes, I love those Ernesto/Lorena scenes. But the Chalo/Sara scenes and Icturo/Jacqui scenes certainly bring out the best in you!

Your descriptions of these two-bit lust sequences are hilarious. I'm still laughing about Jaqui's hips hitting all the cardinal points of the compass...twice....

But this week's " Chalo has bed head. I guess that means Sara was on top the whole time. Makes sense." Too funny. I'll be smiling all day, amiga.

Hmmm...wondered what happened to the weird letters I had to type...they ended up in my note. Sorry!

Great link also, Sylvia. Enjoyed reading about Aventurera even though I'm unlikely to ever get into Netflix mode. But who knows?

Thanks alot, due to the futility of my very existance, I have been getting home and only catching the last few minutes of this each night.

I usually get to see Aldumbass in the same expression, his eyes look like circles and his mouth is open...Jeez.

I just don't see the allure of Al, I mean I know Lorena is a fresh faced young virgin, but still she is a food fan, would she want to eat bland mash saltless mash potatoes every day for the rest of her life? Maybe once and a while with a chile thrown in? (Al during one of his makes no sense rages). Lorena try a different dish.

Good advice Beckster. But when have any of these writers listened to us? (Can't imagine why not though...we're right, aren't we!?)

Maybe Alonso's redemption will involve getting an actual personality.

Hey Sylvia! How are things going over here? I love Frida Kahlo; I saw her exhibition at the National Museum of Mexican Art in Chicago. Did you see that this Sunday Univisión is airing "Frida" in Spanish? Can't wait...

Beckster, once again you come up with a brilliant idea, comparing our characters to food! If Al is "boar"ing unsalted mashed potatoes, what is Ernesto? Mmmmm, I'm getting hungry just thinking about him, er, it.

Nicolas, thanks for checking in! Things are a bit more tame over here compared to over-the-top FELS. The Frida exhibit was amazing. I've always kind of liked her stuff, though it's a bit dark, but actually seeing it all together in chronological order with some historical background really made her work pop for me. I have a much better appreciation for her as an artist now. What a huge talent. And thanks for the reminder about the movie.

JudyB, that's too funny about the random letters. I sat there for two minutes trying to figure out what they meant and thinking I was totally out of it for not knowing the acronym!

If Alonso is mashed potatoes, then Ernesto is a red hot chile pepper...Interestingly, Ernesto's last name is Mendiola. Can he be related to the other red hot/divino Fernando Mendiola???
NJ Sue --actually watching this show regularly now and liiking it.
P.S. Thanks for a good recap Sylvia.

NJ Sue...glad you're watching regularly now and liking it. I was dragged kicking and screaming into this one (I'm a recapper so I HAD to watch) but I'm liking it better too...especially now that we're getting more Ernesto-time.
Red-hot chile pepper is a little too hot for me to visualize as his food signature though...maybe a rich, flavorful, slow-simmered melt in your mouth aaaaaannnnnnticipation barbecue (barbacoa) would do it for me. hmmmmmm....is it lunchtime yet?

A heffalump! I knew I saw a heffalump!!

I was sooooo convinced that Dario would get tired of Jacqui. Now I see that he's actually the one who's trying to make the best of this ill-fated marriage. Jacqui is already looking for a way out. It's as if she was only ever in it for the wedding... and since that didn't turn out the way she wanted, she has no further use for Dario.

I still think it was dumb and selfish of him to plan a honeymoon in a place that clearly didn't interest her, though!

Sylvia, thanks for great and funny recap!

I'm also looking forward to see Frida - already scheduled to tape on Sunday, as well as Legend of Zorro on Telemundo at the same time - interesting to see both of them in Spanish.

By the way, I am interested in the Mexican music and discovered Chavela Vargas - she was a real life Frida's lover ( portrayed in a movie by Ashley Judd) and also is in this movie by herself singing "Llorona" - very old lady. I have a lot of her records in mp3 from younger age to now - she is great!

OK, back to the QE.

I guess, Icturo is turned by redheads. He just dumped one - right away another one is here - how convenient, right in the office!

Interesting, that the cheap young lawyer has dignity and honor - exact match with his clients.

"I think Dario's having 2nd thoughts about his 2nd marriage." - yep, that exactly what it looks like! And confirming, that the 1st one is still available - probably reconciliation is on it's way (especially now when Jackie will get her sugar from the Icky).

I think Alonslow also has some second thought about Sara, especially her moral values, he split as soon as she started dump something else on Lore again.

Anywho, we have an interesting episode coming tonite, may be some ends will be tied?!

I have to say, I like this one better than Guapos..(I grind my teeth)

The food comparison is because, when my little cousins (who are now married) were teenagers, I used to tell them "Life is a banquet, don't just try one plate, life is full of choices".

If you order vanilla everyday, you'll wake up one day be forty and have a craving for Rocky Road.
Just be very careful on your choices protect yourself against food poisoning.

This drove my very nice, but very WASP cousin crazy. She'd always say, stop telling them that. I was like, so do you want your children to Not be aware that there are Public Food Born Illnesses? Jeez I thought you were a better mother than that.

This was then followed with Jeez get your head outta the gutter, I'm only talking about food.

Yeah they are being pretty blatant about the whole Dario/Jackie thing, about it being not so great and also about Jackie being the one at fault. I do want to say though that I support the new Paula style, her hair doesn't look so horrible and they are giving her some tight blue jeans outfits now, of which I approve.

Excellent recap, I too laughed at the 'Sara on top' analysis. Perfect.

Despite the nice theme song for this show, I keep hearing "Third Rate Romance (Low Rent Rendezvous)" when these fools get to boot-knockin'.

Mike...is Third Rate Romance/ Low Rent Rendezvous the name of a song? If so I want to find it. Sounds like it would be great for floor work in aerobics.

JudyB, oh yes. By the Amazing Rhythm Aces - goes back at least to the '80s. Do you have iTunes or another MP3 service? You should be able to hear 30 secs of the deliciously cynical lyrics. Your aerobics class will either be deeply offended or ROTFL.

Hey, Sylvia, great recap and thanks for the info on the film and the exhibit! I’ll have to look it up and see if the exhibit is coming our way.

“Lorena sticks up for Zully, hooray Lorena, and then comforts Zully when Sara stomps off.” How nice for us that Sara has shown her true colors to Zulema and family early enough that Zulema is getting her number. Will that “mother instinct” overrule her reservations? Let’s hope not! Our sweet Pollyanna-Lorena is becoming Lorena the Hun. (or, could be she’s Lorena the Hon.)

“If Snorty and Jaime are in jail, and Vasco is on the outs, then maybe the business can be in her hands! Bwaahaahaaaaaa!” LOL! I wondered when she was going to realize this. If she plays both ends against the middle, though, she’ll end up with everything unraveling sooner. For a bright girl, her greed makes her really stupid.

“I think Dario's having 2nd thoughts about his 2nd marriage.” ☺ Yep, seems like it, and he should be! Paula was bad enough but Jacqui is a major princess. I would have given a LOT to be taken to Thailand on a romantic trip, and Paula would have as well. Misguided Dario!

“A couple of co-workers snicker a little and end up making her feel guilty for dumping Vasco, he loves her SO much and he was willing to be dad to another guy's baby.” Man, these two chicas were major tacky and tasteless talking to Diana like this. I was offended for our poor Di….even if they are right.

“Vasco pines for Diana. Love hurts. Barbara the Red shows up and expresses worry that the company will fall into Sara's hands. For once Babs and I agree.” LOL—it’s worrisome to agree with Barbara the Red on anything.

“Ickturo tells her that Snorty's in jail and she drops the poor little heffalump on it's head.” ROTFLLLL!!

“Dario brings a present over to Bettina and Paula tells him he looks kind of bad. He's just tired, he says. Tired of your trip or tired of your wife asks Paula? Ouch. She invites him to dinner.” AND HE STAYS!!! Guaranteed to get him in hot water at home when Jacqui finds out and Dario doesn’t even care!

“But as long as the document that Sara guards stays hidden they have a chance. The only real witness, the nun, is dead.” So what’s their angle going to be? That the crooked doc took her to the orphanage and left her off there? How exactly are they going to get around it? OF COURSE, there’s a simpler answer—DNA will prove that she’s not Zulema’s and Omar’s daughter. Then Sara will be in hot water with EVERYONE. My prediction is that the DNA is coming before long because the court will demand it as evidence. Snorty, of course, can then deny that she swapped babies and took one anyplace at all. She can say that Sara deceived her. She won’t be able to say why she bought into it when Sara showed up, though, without tipping her hand—everyone will know there’s a cat trapped here because Snorty bought the story and accepted this “grandchild” at face value so clearly it’s the tip of the iceberg. Fun to come, folks. Of course, if Jaime confesses there won’t be any request for DNA proof right away, will there?

“(My CC said "Mas Pancakes", hee.)” Mine, too, pretty funny!

“Sara and Chalo just did the horizontal bop and halleluja somebody finally has bed head in this show. I mean Chalo of course, no way would Sara's hair be mussed.” ROTFLLL!!! I didn’t even notice, but now that you mention it….

“"Gosh you're purty" he drools. I think they're going to do it on the desk tonight.” ROTFLLL!!

Nicolás, thanks for the reminder about the movie on Sunday.

Beckster, I like this one better than Guapos, too. But, there’s always César Évora—so there’s a reason for watching. He’s such a delightful scumbag and I adore his voice.

Jeanne

Snorty seemed mildly amused (like, "heh, I knew this was coming") when Sara asked to take over the business. She's definitely one of the more interesting characters - she may not know that Sara's an impostor (I still wonder if they're related in some way) but other than that, she really seems to understand what kind of person Sara is.

I also thought it was interesting last week, a couple of times Sara wanted to hug her or wanted a hug and Snorty declined, or only reluctantly agreed. Is it possible that Sara wants real affection from her fake grandma? Because it doesn't seem to me that she needs to push the hugs for Snorty's sake.

I also loved Snorty's reaction to the food in jail! I hope she's a LOT nicer to her own kitchen workers when she gets out... but somehow I think she'll just be meaner. She'll tell them the food was better in jail.

Thanks Mike...I'm kind of a doofus on finding music and downloading but maybe I can ask for my youngest daughter's help in finding it now that I know the group.

I've used some pretty funny songs in aerobics (although my favorite titles "And I shaved my legs for this?" and "I don't look good naked anymore") weren't melodic or catchy enough to actually use. A lot of the country music lyrics are earthy and clever and so far no one has objected...and they love the song "Your feets too big".(not country) Have you heard that one?

JudyB, sure, every time I go to buy shoes.

Anytime you want to hear a song, try searching for it on youtube.com. You won't always find it, but it doesn't hurt to look.

Julie, thanks!! I forget that YouTube has music - here's the URL for the 1975 version.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ql_KwPRg17c

Okay guys, I'll work on that tonight...thanks Mike and Julie

Okay...interesting song. I liked the video for the Sammy Kershaw version too. Thanks you guys.

Heee heee Syvia. I'm not even going to watch this, your recap suffices just fine!!! You are a trooper staying up to finish. "bed head" snicker.... heffalump snicker.....

great stuff!

Where do I know Snorty's lawyer from? Has he been in something else recently?

Thanks for the recap Sylvia. I know it is a while away but I can't wait to see Zulema and Omar's faces when they realize that Sara is not theirs. I wonder which one of the women in the family will slap/beat down Sara first. With her new personality, I think it might be Lorena.

I too am so sad to see Diana going back to Bruno. Though her co-workers were being insensitive, they were right about Vasco's character (pobrecito Vasco).

And I have to give kudos to the recapper who coined "blondeharlotmom." That term just tickles me every time I read it.

Sylvia, thank you for the recap! Julie, about Sara wanting Hortensia's affection -- I get the feeling she does on some level. She calls Hortensia "my grandmother" even to Chalo, who knows better (when she's not calling her "the old woman," that is). Sara and Hortensia are two peas in a pod and I think they have a sneaking affection for each other although they'd never admit it even to themselves.

I'm another person who would like to see Lorena end up with Ernesto. I think he needs some help with his clean-freak fixation, but otherwise he'd make a much better hero than Alonso the Confused. But I suppose Ernesto's going to end up with whiny Monica.
