Fuego en la Sangre, 09/05/08: Confession May Be Good For The Soul, But It's Sure Hell On a Relationship

“Between lovers a little confession is a dangerous thing.” --Helen Rowland (1875–1950). Let me just add, never more so than in Telenovela-land.

This episodio begins as a repentant El Jefe, having now revealed to Pedro his identity as Alejandro Reyes, Pedro’s long-lost, dead-beat daddy, swears to himself in the obscure solitude of his hacienda that he’ll manage to get Pedro to pardon him whatever the cost.

Pedro, on the other hand, is just as determined that he won’t. He has returned to Casita Reyes and is moping out on the patio in the moonlight when Juan notices him and sits down to ask why he’s not on his way to Guadalajara by now. Pedro tells him he ran into something he hadn’t counted on: finding his daddy. He tells Juan that his papa, Alejandro Reyes, is no less than El Jefe --and oh, by the way, since he was your momma’s younger brother that makes El Jefe your uncle, too. Juan is ¡Ay! ¡Caramba! impactado and says all this “protection” business with Pedro and the three of them now makes sense. Pedro plans to skip town [we assume once he locates Uncle Vicente in Guadalajara] and has no intention of either seeing the guy ever again or forgiving him for all the pain he caused his mother.
===========

Morning comes once more to Cd. Serdán. The three Elizondo sisters are dressed and ready to go to mass with their significant others. Sofia, Sarita and Jimena stop to discuss the big secret over the Reyes’ dead sister. They are worried about it. Sofia mentions that Juan had acted so strange the night before and hugged her as if he were afraid he would lose her forever. (What oh what might this portend?) She and the others hope that whatever is behind all the secrecy and strange behavior, whatever that secret is, hopefully it won’t be something bad.

In the other bedroom Juan tells Franco and Oscar Pedro’s news that El Jefe is his father and their uncle, for better or for worse. Since Pedro plans on leaving Juan will offer him their support but, he says, it has to wait until later. Now they’ve got to ‘fess up over Libia and do it like men (hubba hubba).

Across town Eva is picking up in Margarita’s living quarters when Ofelia comes rushing in looking for the singer. She’s surprised to find Eva there and Eva explains how Margarita gave her a job as her assistant after seeing her crying in the church the other day. Ofelia tries to warn Eva about Margarita but Eva is in a hurry and doesn’t listen and then races out of the room just as Margarita returns.

Meanwhile Padre Tadeo performs the mass.

Ofelia complains to Margarita about hiring Eva, since she feels Margarita is only using her in order to get information about Rosario. Margarita insists she was only giving a hand to a desperate woman, but Ofelia says she knows her better than that. Margarita has never cared about anybody but herself and only does what interests her. Margarita admits she does want Rosario to learn the truth about her. Ofelia warns her she may not like what she herself finds out and asks her to leave town and to never come back there again. Otherwise, if Margarita learns the truth what she finds out might cause her a lot of grief.

Meanwhile, the sisters place flowers at their father’s crypt and the brothers make their way to Libia’s tomb. The brothers arrive at Libia’s grave site in the bat cave and Juan tells Libia they plan to tell the truth about her today, and then leaves another concha. (I really wonder just what happens to that concha once the flower glows.)

Back at Augie’s he and Eva get ready to visit Bernardo’s crypt but Eva’s worried Gabi will throw them both out again. Augie doesn’t think so since Raqui’s firing Eva was enough to satisfy Gabriela. He shakes his head and says that Gabi has chalked up so many evil deeds that she couldn’t possibly manage to repent for all of them in her lifetime. (Couldn’t have said it better myself.)

In the hacienda’s kitchen, big mouth Hortensia and her two sons are delivering and putting up the produce order. Fernando is coming down the large stairway above and overhears their chatter. They are discussing how painful the memorial mass was and that today the Elizondo girls might be taking communion beside the Reyes’, but in an instant they might be split up. Rigo tells his mother to be quiet because someone might hear her, but she doesn’t believe anybody is around. She fairly shouts that “It’s all so sad. I am sure that up in heaven Don Bernardo Elizondo and Libia Reyes are still in love with each other.” Fernando stops in his tracks at this and says to himself in a big “A-ha!” moment, “Libia Reyes?”

Meanwhile, the three Elizondo sisters and the three Reyes brothers ride to Libia’s grave site while Padre Tadeo prays at his little office altar for God to enlighten the sisters. “Let there remain some bond of their love; the truth should unite them more and never should it divide them.” (I think God has just left his office and his cell battery is dead. Tadeo will have to leave a number.)

Back at the cottage Eva and Augie are returning and discussing how time flies since it’s a year now that Bernardo has been dead. Augie says he cannot forget the young girl who showed up at the wake that night. “What was her name, Eva?” Fernando appears in the doorway just then. “Libia Reyes,” he answers for her. “She was named Libia Reyes. --Isn’t that right, Eva?” Eva is at a loss for words, ‘cause she knows she’s just been outed. Augie asks Feo what he is talking about and Feo tells him he heard right: the little girl who showed up that night claiming she was pregnant with Bernie’s kid and that they were in love was named Libia Reyes. Why, he just found out himself. “She was the Reyes’ sister.”

Augie can’t believe it and asks Eva if it’s true or not. “That can’t be true. That would be crazy!” he tells her. Eva is too impactada to answer --much to Augie’s chagrin. She tries to find the words to explain to Augie, but Feo jumps in instead. “Am I lying, Eva? You knew from the first, and it was you who let them in and hired them as bricklayers. Isn’t that right?” Augie keeps demanding the truth from her. Finally she stutters that yes, she did know and Libia was in fact their younger sister. Augie’s jaw drops to his lap and it’s obvious from the smug smile on Feo’s face that he is enjoying this little scene way too much.

As soon as she can, Eva runs over to the bakery to warn Quintina that Don Augustin knows the truth about Libia being the Reyes’ sister. The others need to be warned too. Quintina tells her it’s too late for that now. Juan has already taken the girls to the tomb and is planning to tell them the truth. Eva also now hopes that God can enlighten the three Elizondo girls but God is still out of the office and his cell is on the charger.

Fernando has returned to the Hacienda. He sits Gabi down and tells her that Libia, the girl that crashed Bernie’s wake was the Reyes’ younger sister. At the same time Juan is telling Sofia, Jimena and Sarita that Libia was the name of their sister and that she was the young girl who was involved with their father and who was pregnant with Bernardo’s child. All three of the sisters are wide-eyed, double take impactada at Juan’s unexpected revelation.

Sofia nearly blows a gasket when she hears that Libia was The Girl and she screams at Juan about not having told her before despite all the times he’d had the chance. He admits that he was just too scared to lose her once she learned the truth.

Jimena yells out suddenly that she remembers now that they were not the original bricklayers hired to build the cottage. “So what was the real reason you went to the hacienda?” she screams over the (suddenly) loud sound of the falls. (Anybody ever remember those falls being that noisy in other scenes?) “—To get revenge,” is Oscar’s reluctant answer. “—For what? I didn’t hear you!” “—To avenge the death of our sister! To kill everyone! That’s why we went!” he screams back through the din outside. Sarita starts repeating over and over, “I knew it. I knew it. I knew it! You came looking to harm us.” Franco wants to explain, but she stops him cold. “What Oscar just finished saying doesn’t need an explanation. It is very clear. You came to the house looking for revenge.”

Sofia asks Juan if it’s true, that they came to the house that day looking for vengeance and he admits it is. They share a veeeeerrrrry long look of shock, betrayal and unbearable shame. (I gotta admit EY, that even under that skuzzy beard, you relay one hell of a credible look of “unbearable shame” for the camera. Yep, I hate the dopey dude you’re playing, but that look is another one for the record books, big boy.)

Back at the cottage Augie is upset with himself for letting the Reyes’ deceive him. “They tricked me. They lied to me!”

We beam back to the bat cave as Jimena demands to know from Oscar why they showed up at the hacienda that day. He hangs his head in shame and confesses that it was in order to take vengeance on the family, but insists that they fell in love with them all and couldn’t continue with the promise they’d made to their dead sister.

Up in her room Gabi says she wants the two of them to go to the Reyes’ and confront them face to face with the awful truth in front of her idiot daughters but Feo talks her out of it. He says the girls will only feel more threatened by her than the Reyes’ if she does. It would be best for her daughters to find out by themselves then come to her on their own. She needs to remember those three men are very shrewd. “—They are miserable wretches,” she says. “However miserably wretched they might be, they managed to deceive all of us. It’s clear to me that they came looking for revenge, to have your daughters fall in love –and they managed it. Perhaps they are doing to them what Bernardo did to their sister,” he reasons.

Gabi agrees and says they’ll have to be on their guard then because who knows what their intentions are. Feo says exactly, because who knows how they’ll react when they find out how she humiliated the girl at the wake the night she died. “—And that reaction will be worse,” adds Gabi, “when they know that you murdered their sister.” She then “lovingly” caresses his mouth with her fingertips. (Grrrr! It’s always like fingernails on a blackboard watching her do that to him, and especially tonight.)

Back at the tomb the sisters all are screaming around Libia’s grave site demanding to know just what the brothers’ plan for vengeance involved. Sofia asks how far they were planning to take things. “Perhaps you even thought to kill us, Juan? Well, did you?” Juan screams back yes, and then Franco insists that once they met them that changed everything. Oscar admits that the plan was to have them fall in love, then to seduce them, and then to leave them the same way their father left their sister. Sofia interrupts insisting that her father was never going to abandon Libia. Jimena sneers and wonders if they had even met their father. Oscar answers angrily that of course they had!

Juan begins yelling over the din outside that they met him when they found out she was pregnant with his kid, and they believed him when he said he was going to take responsibility and marry her; but Bernardo lied to them because he never told them that he was already married and had a family! (Hard to grasp that Daddy may not have been such a gentleman after all, isn't it now, Sofia?) Of course, Sofia and her sisters begin screaming that the Reyes’ love then must all be just a pack of lies. Juan says no, they love them and they brought them there to the grave so they could tell them the truth. (Sorry, but the only truth can be Sofia’s truth.)

Oscar tells Jimena that no it isn’t lies, that fate toyed with them and this vengeance changed into a marvelous love. Juan begs Sofia to believe their love for them is real “—With all our being! Believe me, Sofia! Take a good look at me! I love you!” and Franco swears then that they love them with all their heart.

Juan grabs for Sofia but she won’t have anything more to do with him. In typical novela fashion she screams, “Let go of me! --No Juan! Love cannot exist if it is not based in truth. How could you all? How could you all have done this to us?” She slaps Juan and tells him to never ever touch her again, then stomps off. The others reject Oscar and Franco likewise and then leave too. “It’s been carried out, Libia,” says Franco. Oscar looks away and adds, “It’s done now.” Juan looks up and says, “Lord, if that’s the way you want it, well, whatever you command so be it.” They share a sad brotherly group hug.

A bit later as the two groups of riders trot away from the grave site it is obvious that the charade has ended and the trust and love and happiness they all shared are now dead. Yes, yes. Death, now dressed in red, follows along behind and looks on as we in Viewerville note the not so subtle reference to the last scene of Poe’s The Masque of the Red Death when all has been revealed and all have succumbed. "…And Darkness and Decay and the Red Death held illimitable dominion over all." (Got it, class?)

While all of this is taking place, Eva is explaining to Quintina that it’s all been her fault for having let the Reyes’ into the hacienda to pass for the bricklayers. She knows that Don Augustin deserves an explanation from her she says. The sympathetic Quintina is impactada to hear that Eva did this knowing who they were and what they were going to do. (Quite frankly, so am I come to think of it.) Eva admits she knew from the first and that she did it because she was so “overcome from hate, bitterness, rage and pain at that moment" from all that Gabriela Elizondo had done to her and she wanted her to pay for it. (Yep, I’d say that about runs the gamut of emotions that rabid, female canine can arouse in every God-fearing one of us.) Afterwards though, Eva tells Quintina, she regretted it; but by then it was all too late.

Speaking of the Queen of Rome and canine females, Gabi confesses to Feo her rage at having been duped. However, what angers her most is the way her daughters voluntarily handed themselves over to their “executioners.” The thought hits her then that this means her daughters will certainly be leaving the Reyes’ and returning home thoroughly hoodwinked and humiliated. “—But if they do return home, it will be under my conditions!” she smiles. Fernando advises her that this will be the perfect time to assert herself as the long-suffering and sacrificing mother who is ready to forgive everything “for the good of her daughters.”

“We need to have them back in order for you to –“ “—to have them in my hands!” Gabi finishes his thought. “—You got it!” Fer smiles. They share another conspiratorial laugh together. “Yes, I’ll be the long-suffering, self-sacrificing mother ready to shelter them when they most need it!” Gabi nearly swoons from the perverse pleasure she’ll take in it. She immediately pulls out her rosary, turns to the over sized cross on the wall, and begins to pray again. (God better be back in his office and taking very good notes on this one.)

The six (not so young) lovers return to Reyes Central. Juan tries to make the sisters all understand they all still love them. (Anybody else getting’ tired of this besides me about now?) Quintina tries to cover over the obvious hostility but Sofia accuses her of being the brothers’ accomplice. She can’t deny it and asks what choice did she have? Jimena accuses her of preferring to betray them instead of the Reyes’. Juan swears to Sofia again that they were only frightened of losing them. “Well, Juan,” she says, “your fears have been realized. I cannot continue to stay in this house a moment longer.” Quintina gets on her knees as it’s obviously now her turn to beg them to stay. After all, “they are upright, worthy men,” she pleads.

Jimena quickly disagrees, “No they aren’t. They are avengers and they’ve succeeded. They’ve broken all three of our hearts. They’ve torn apart our dreams and our hopes.” She plans on leaving immediately if not sooner, too. They all go off to pack and Juan lifts Quintina up off her knees and tells her not to humble herself. (Here! Here! Enough is enough!)
===========

We are beamed back to Augie’s where Eva is now trying to explain her motives but he feels totally betrayed and refuses to listen. She knew all that time, from the very first, who they were and what they intended to do but kept quiet about it. “You handed us over to the enemy and without the slightest bit of mercy!” He feels guilty for ignoring the fact they came armed that day. “Why would you just let them in knowing they were coming to take their revenge? You, who proclaimed so much that you love my granddaughters as if they were your own daughters!” (About now I’m screaming at Eva to put the blame where it belongs! Why can’t she remember to tell him the real reason is because Gabriela tricked her and high-handedly stole her newborn daughter out of her arms and gave her away to Gawd knows who??) Eva swears she tried to talk them out of it numerous times but could never convince them to leave. “You delivered them to their enemies! Whatever happens to them now, it’s on your head!” He rolls away in disgust to drown in her own tears.

Back in the hacienda, Fernando is in his bedroom taking out Libia’s locket from its little wooden chest. He thinks to himself that he knows Sofia so well and that she’ll never forgive this betrayal. So, now is the perfect time to offer her all his “support.”
=========

We’re back at Casita Reyes and Juan continues begging Sofia to understand. She continues to refuse to forgive him or to stay. She reminds him that she warned him only lies and tricks could split them up and he stayed quiet about everything. She comes across her wedding dress as she’s packing and starts in again about the way he betrayed her truthfulness and affections. Juan cannot hold back any longer. (At last he lets Miss Self-Righteous Fancy Pants have it with both barrels.) “You don’t know what you’re talking about! Yes, my pain was consuming me, and all on account of your father! HE tricked US and made a fool out of my sister! As for us, we never respond with hate or vengeance easily, but after our sister’s death and your father’s duping her, we were filled with hate and bitterness, and with despair!” (Alas! Our jonnie wimps out again.) “--Don’t leave me, Sofia!” (Argghh!)

Sofia tells Juan that she would have understood his pain, but not this lie. She would have rather he carried out his vengeance the first day they met and killed her outright. It would have saved her the pain. “You got your revenge and it’s been cruel, very cruel.”

Oscar, likewise, tries reasoning with Jimena. She’s even more obstinate than Sofia and punches him when asking why he kept quiet and refused to be honest with her. He tries to explain. “We entered the hacienda to avenge our sister, don’t you see? We never thought about falling in love with you all. Never! Now look at me! I was afraid. I didn’t want to lose you, believe me, Jimena! Please!” Jimena says it’s all too ridiculous. She forgave his infidelity because he looked her in the eyes and admitted it, but this time it’s different. She takes off her wedding ring, tells him she is giving him back his promise of love, and tells him to keep the ring for the next go at revenge.

It’s no better between Franco and Sarita, either. “I kept telling them I doubted you all but they just ignored me, said I was too distrustful, I was exaggerating. I warned them that you had come to harm us!” Franco begs Sarita to understand that they still love them, but Sarita disagrees. “No, Franco. You don’t understand about love, because hypocrisy doesn’t fit into Love’s world view. You betrayed us. You were looking for revenge and you got it. You succeeded. There is no love in any of you, only a hatred that’s come to the surface. That’s all that there is!”

Before the three sisters leave, Sofia stops to give a prayer of thanks to the virgencita for having protected them during their stay there and asks for her support during this painful time. Suddenly Pablito comes home from school and notices the suitcases. He wonders if they are all going on a vacation. Sofia tells him they’re not and that she and her sisters are leaving the house for good. Pablito thinks this must be a cruel joke (one of the cruelest, I’d say) and then reminds her that she promised to stay and be his mother. She says she still will be and they’ll be able to visit each other as often as they like. (Save it, Sofia.) Oscar and Franco try again to persuade them to stay, but Sarita only sneers, “Good riddence!” at them before the three of them start for the door.

However, Padre Tadeo walks in just then, checking to see what happened after they had learned the truth. Sofia asks if Padre Tadeo was in on the ruse too and he admits he knew about it all, but that he succeeded in convincing the brothers to exchange vengeance for justice, a concept that seems to be a bit too esoteric for our three distressed and distressingly naive damsels to comprehend.

“I’ve been a witness to how these three generous men transformed their pain and rage into a true love,” says Tadeo. (How quickly you forget, Sofia, how Juan selflessly carried you out of a burning inferno, raced you to a hospital after you fell down those stairs in a daze and nearly miscarried, took that flogging for you from your insanely sadistic mother, and, oh yeah, rescued you from being beaten to a bloody pulp by Fernando that day at the Chili Pepper Rodeo. What was that, hon? Chopped liver?) “No, Father,” replies Sofia. “True love doesn’t betray,” is her arrogant, self-assuming statement of The World According to Sofia Garp. “This time you’ve made a mistake. They don’t love us.” (Chopped liver it is, then.)

Sofia and her sisters pick up their bags and head for home. Juan places Libia’s picture back onto the little shrine and tells the others that their oath to Libia has been fulfilled. He squares his shoulders and looks over at all of them, resolute. “From now on, let whatever has to happen happen.”

Thanks for the recap, Cakes! Love the snarkiness of it all. This episode deserves the snark.

Sofia does not look pregnant at all in her black dress. Nice to see she upgraded from a pillowcase to a suitcase, now that she's running away from home.

AND . . . can we add to the endangering-the-unborn-child list:
Riding a galloping horse. !Que ridículo!

I think if the boys would all go swimming, the girls would forgive them.

doris

Oh, doris! You are such a bad girl!! ; ? ))

What a fabulous recap, complete with literary allusions. Another case in which the recap surpasses the episode.

However, I have to say, I was glued to the screen last night, hoping that this wasn't going where it went. I guess I'm rooting for the girls who are going to come in and swoon over the hapless Reyes. They didn't much deserve what they got last night!

I might be in the minority here in saying from a storyline and plot standpoint, that I was good and very dramatic. With the climax at the grotto. Some viewers may even be saying the series should end there. But the secrecy has gone on too long and now the cat is out of the bag.

On to the next sublplot. the second part... Ricardo Uribe may yet be the true villain and may be more dangerous than fernado escandon. sorry i'm not good at being snarky but enjoy reading everything here. :)

Fantastic 'cap, Cakes! I agree that EY did a magnificent job portraying his shame, and I'd like to add that AN did just as good a job being crushed and shattered, indignant and just plain pissed...how long will the girls last at mama's before their anger subsides, she slaps them around, and they are back with our heroes again? pobre Pablito, motherless again...

This is arguably the best episode I've seen in this Telenovela. In my humble opinion.

Ibarramedia

Cakes, what a great recap of a really sad episode. Last night I would have slapped those girls. Holy cow how short their memories are, and all three of them witnessed Juan's beating by Gabby! Stupid girls!

And how can Gramps forget who took him in and gave him a home when Gabby tried to stuff him in the old folks home? What stupid, stupid family!

Doris, I am totally with you, those boys would be much happier if they went for a swim!

Okay, Here's my two cents. This episode bothered the crap out of me. As good as the actresses are they don't look like they are in the early Twenties. Only then might that over the top hand wringing, woe is me. you evil man BS be Okay.Face it girls, DOD (Dear Old Dad) should not have bagged Simple Libia. It was wrong on so many levels.Your husbands, who have proven their worth, were distraught over the death of their baby sister and her unborn child.
Then Pablito, who actually is a child, has to pay the price for your pique.Telling off the Priest was the pièce de résistance. The touching part was when Juan lifted Qintana to her feet and told her not to humiliate herself more. mhm

Jardinera, thank you for an excellent and entertaining recap.
Ibarramedia...I am one who is thinking that this is a very good spot for the telenovela to end...good by and good riddance to the extremely dense and thoroughly useless Elizondo family. Just taking up air and space, IMO. Time for the handsome boys to regain their hacienda and find new loves. They can do better. But then, I'll probably continue to watch this torture...but mainly for E Y and more swimming.

Thanks for the great recap..This episode kinda of reminded me of High Noon, except that was an awesome movie & this show just oozes cheese. You knew something dramatic was going to happen, but it was so overdone and in your face.

I usually just smirk these episodes over, but last nights just sent me into a snarking spiral of wanting to smack the sisters senseless, it is just not based on stupidity & bad clothing choices anymore.

Gawd what selfish bitches, oh you didn't just pick up their ultimate feminine pheromones off the fresh mountain breezes, ride the magic horse to the hacienda and fall madly, deeply in love with the girls based on your particular preferance for clothing style?

Okay well then if that isn't true then lets go back and live in the magic palace with Mommy

I'm pretty close to giving up on this TN. That was a very dramatic episode, but not believable that the supposedly intense love Sofía feels for Juan would be thrown out the window for their not fessing up earlier.

Now supposedly we will be treated to months of Crabi's abusing of her daughters, trying to kill Sofía's baby, Feo's trying to seduce and/or rape her, etc.

You'd think those three dumb clucks would be able to find a place to live in the toxic dump waste town, but from the avances, it looks like they're going back to dear old Mom.

Yuch!!!

In total agreement with all of you about the sisters and their selfish ways but then old Gramps also totally forgot everything the Reyes have done for him. Total prima donnas the lot of them. Their little fit made for a lot of misery for Quintina, Eva, Pablito, etc., even Pad Tad. The Reyes really should look around Cd Serdan for more mature women/girls.

Comadre Cakes, a most excellent recap for an episode way beyond suspended belief.
I haven't watched much and Fast Forward lots. So, I must have missed the episode where they got lobotomies, or extra terrestrials have inhabited their bodies, or something else happened. Because, they're getting more stupid...

Good dramatic delivery of a hopelessly stupid plot and character motivation but so well recapped by the erudite and hilarious Doña Cakes. Thanks for the thorough work.

I too am furious at the sudden stupidity of Abuelo who has had uncommonly good sense until this episode. My sorrow is for Pablito who has been stiffed worst of all. Eva and Padre Tadeo have taken another portion of undeserved blame for the Elizondo stupidity. They actually might deserve the cruelty, humilliation and danger they are sure to rush into when they return to Feo and Gabi.

Doris I don't know and don't care if the girls would forgive them if the boys went swimming, but I sure would feel a whole lot better. Later maybe they can find new girl friends with brains. What's the chance of that though?

Willa wants to know what's to become of Mariachi now. Maybe he will get one of the empty bedrooms if the boys all go back together.

Hi everyone, I have recently discovered this blog, and I'm loving the re-caps! Thank you!

I became fluent in Spanish as a young missionary when I spent a couple years in Argentina. Years later I keep my comprehension up by watching telenovelas. But beyond being great for my language skills, they are a huge guilty pleasure. The over the top drama and campiness has me hooked! (Not to mention the hot men)

I thought I was a rare Yanqi/Gringo watching. Who knew there was a whole community that shared my obsession??!!

Yes, FELS is so silly and repetetive, and I want to slap the characters, but I'm also totally charmed by this strange timeless place. There have been some great set pieces full of local flavor that make me wish I could live in Mexidoon.

The sound people need to be fired, and the music can be so distracting but at the same time some of the the themes and orchestration also very lush and beautiful! (just spare me the off key Ave Maria!)

Last night went by fast even considering I ffwwd through the commercials! I was glued to the screen and I thought it was quite stunning to see everyone in their matching black finery on horseback entering the enchanted cave. Even Adelita looked like she had overcome her anemia, Gracias Virgencita for that one.

But the girls are exasperating and now the story goes back to square one again! Oh well, what villany awaits at Hacienda San Agustin?

To the Muchachos, I too think it's about time for a nice swim!

Mexidoon...very funny.

I know these boys aren't the brightest bulbs but couldn't they have fudged the truth a little. Three brains(ya I know) and a year later and they haven't come up with a plausible alternative like..".your ancient dad boinked, lied to and impregnated our baby sister and then he mysteriously died and then someone bashed our baby sister's head in. We came to the hacienda to investigate to solve this mystery but the moment we saw you three beautiful girls(haha,) we knew you couldn't be guilty. But we really think that evil Fernando certainly seems a good candidate." No mention of an oath of vengeance on the girls would be necessary from these intellectually challenged brothers.

Yay, swimming for all the boys including Pedro! He is sad to. Maybe uncle will help them get the hacienda back and then they can be in a nice big home with lots of rooms and the girls will realize what idiots they are!

If those boys go begging for forgiveness I will be very angry. And poor Franco is now sandled with Sarita the Uptight and didn't even get to comsumate the stupid thing before she walked out. He got completely jipped!

From a different perspective, I can understand abuelo's sense of betrayal (but NOT Sofi & co. --- ALL this time and she never asked what his dead sister's name is??? come ON!)

Abuelo has been treated like dirt and tossed out by his daughter, and he knows Feo is a scumbag. Don Augustín thought he could trust Eva, the long-running family ama de casa, and those nice Reyes boys who accept him unconditionally. He really likes these people and they like him.

Then now, it turns out Eva knew of the Reyes bros. oath of vengeance. I really can see where the old guy feels betrayed. He is the only one right now for whom I feel some sympathy.

As for the E-sisters.....collectively they cannot come up with a complete brain.

doris

Welcome, randy in seattle! Pardon the pun when I say on this blog we all share a kindred spirit. ; ? )
If hunky male specimens, campiness and over-the-top melodrama in Spanish is your guilty pleasure, Sr. Mejia generally never fails to produce in quantity if not quality all of the above.
=========
I have to admit that I couldn't believe they didn't redo the revelation scenes in the cave considering all that noise in there while they were taping. I didn't know whether to laugh myself silly or throw my huaraches at the screen at those dimwit sisters. It was supposed to be soooooo serious and there they were screaming at the top of their lungs trying to get their lines out and sound like it was the confession of the century. The sound guy's nephew must have been handling it and the editor's son probably did the final cut!

Yeah, Gramps is a little short on memory regarding the Reyes' good deeds, but I'll chalk it up to his old age --not that I should, cuz he's too kind hearted to forget for long. ? ;? ) I think Gramps is probably just too down in the dumps about losing his edge to remember all the great things the Reyes' did for him.

Good morning Ms. Calamity...wow, the literary reference was impressive...I don't know that particular work but will have to check it out. Always learning something here.

Also loved your" God is out of the office and his cell phone nees re-charging." That explains a lot of what's going on in this telenovela and also down here on earth!

Thanks as always...I'll ditto the blogger who said the recap is better than the episode. Hats off to you, madame.

I forgot to thank the Recapper.

I too found the Little Red Riding Death to be captivating. The new burst of light effect is odd. I keep expecting someone to transport into the location whenever it's used.

Ibarramedia, I agree with you. I've known Friday's episode was coming for a long time, and I have to say I was surprised that they actually did make it a serious issue and believable reaction.

And the vengeance plot is a very serious issue -- indeed the crux of the novela. It shouldn't be glossed over. In fact, the boys became infuriated all over again, thinking about the injustices to their sister.

I will be interested to see where the girls go from here. I watch every single night as soon as the TiVo reaches the 20-minute point, to avoid the upcoming 20 minutes of commercials, LOL.

The ratings for this show have always been excellent, and they are increasing as we go along. In TV viewer land, we have a lot of company. (In addition, Eduardo is on the cover of People en Español in their sexiest-men issue.)

Most recent Nielsen ratings:

Monday, 23.6 points, 5.062 million viewers
Tuesday, 23.1 points, 5.105 million
Wednesday, 22 points, 4.828 million
Thursday, 21.4 points, 4.564 million
Friday, 20.4 points, 4.216 million

If I were writing part of the next "etapa" of this story, I'd make sure that Juan gives Sofia a taste of her own medicine by telling her he has had it with her and her ungrateful and spoiled attitude towards him. Why should he be groveling at her feet anyway? It should be the other way around. I'd have him find another good, sensible woman and blow her off for a good long while till she comes to her senses. Same with the other two couples. There's humility and then there is humiliation. Force the one too far and it turns into the other. Harrumph! Just sayin'.......

Anywho, we have another 20 wks to unravel the mystery behind Ricardo Uribe, Sofia having her baby and coming into her inheritance and yes, even finding out she is the sole heir to the hacienda, the lawsuit for the Robles-Reyes' lands, and everybody including Mama finding out that it was Feo who raped Sofia (tho' at this point I think this would only make Gabi even more hot to trot for him) and that he's been responsible for all the murders in town, including the biggies, Bernie and Libia. Anybody think El Jefe dropping Fer into a pit full of rattlesnakes or having Mr. Ed be allowed to trample him to death somehow would be just punishment at the end?

Jeri, I saw that on the Spanish People website. And it is a great pic of him. Out of all the men the put up, I think they chose well. But if Jorge had been in there I would have been torn.

Cakes, I think you are right about Gabi, I'm not sure she would care if she found out what Fer did to her kid. Considering she seems fine with murder, and the possibility of him taking the baby out, I'm surprised that cross hasn't burst into flame when she "prays".

Here is hoping G-pa comes to his senses quickly and remembers all of the good with the boys. Besides, he will certainly miss Quintina and find some forgiveness in his heart.

Wow---excellent analysis bloggers, & what I love best..is it doesn't seem anyone is actually viewing this for the "True Love" aspect.

This is like, "the Hallmark Hall of Fame, meets the Sorpranos, meets "The Ted Bundy Story", it is like lets just throw every kind of crap in there and see what shakes out.

Does "Muerte en Rosa" mean Love is Dead? or is it just a tribute to the 80's which is like 30 years in the future in Mexidoon?

Besides how do you tell someone, hey your creepy "Crypt Master father was doing my little sister, was it love or trying to steal her youth life force". There is no way this story can be presented as Libia the Simple seduced Ber, it just screams creepy. Let us now take notice that the triplet sisters of self centeredness, never bothered to find out anything about dead girl, well you know she was poor and those people breed like bunnies or Sofie so there were probably lots of hermanos to take her place.

Sofie and Ximena were just so flattered that someone, anyone other than Fer paid any attention. Sarita, the spinster, want to be Frau Farbissa, loves to read crap poetry, but when it comes to the actual deed, can't think about that. Could we just not tie these three to swivel chairs and give them hard smacks all round. I'll even let Fer & Gabi smack them.

Don't you also love how once again everything including 9/11 is poor Evas fault.

Hi, Jardinera Calamity Cakes -- to answer your question -- Yes, I also think a pit of snakes or stomping by Mr. Ed would be 2 suitable ways of killing off Fer. But then he's going to need at least 9 lives so that he can be killed off for each of his crimes -- and until we viewers feel that he's been killed to our satisfaction -- after all we are imagining a lot of different death scenarios for Feo!

Now my Question to you is -- What punishment is going to be appropriate enough for Crabi!!! Certainly she demands a range of punishments too!

Good thing this is all imaginary stuff--the Feo/Crabi wicked deeds -- but also our demand for retribution!--whew!we are harsh!

PanQue

Yes, I also thought it was both an unbelievable AND believable chapter.

Unbelievable because of the flip-flop from Reyes House of Love which was achieved only after so much effort and angst to get those Elizondo girls to give it up and move in -- to Elizondo girls give up and stomp home to the Hacienda of Horrors again. With suitcases this time, not pillowcases.

Believable because of the shouting match over the tumba of Libia in the Glowing Flower cave. Both sets of Sisters and Brothers facing off across the tumba -- screaming and yelling at each other. Showing they all have the same style of reacting emotionally without thinking or reasoning out Anything At All.

They're clearly made for each other!!

Besides, we remember that these 6 people are all tied together by invisible strings from the great beyond, pulled by PuppetMasters Don Bernardo & Libia -- so they really don't have an ice cube's chance of finding anyone else on earth to love.

Yipes what a condemnation -- I agree with (Beckster I think who said) that it's time for everyone to go back to respective homes and find somebody else to be their love interests.

On the other hand, Sofia is pregnant -- just like Libia was! -- certainly this has to factor in to her thoughts as part of Juan's Venganza!

Bring back some of the animal actors -- I think the next few chapters should be acted only by Mr Ed, Capricho, Mariachi, the cute rabbit we saw in the early chapter, and the other supporting actor role horses! Some of the inanimate actors -- such as Concha Pan Dulce, and Bigote Pan Dulce -- may also play roles! They have non-speaking parts, so the background sounds may play loudly to their hearts' content!

PanQue

Beckster -- yeah, it's always Eva's fault! But then she doesn't ever say it isn't her fault -- she just does the Porky Pig stutter thing (bbbthhaa bbbthaa bbtthhaaa that's all folks) -- and lets them accuse her of anything and put her in the stocks and throw rotten vegs at her.
Grow a spine Eva! Join the Slap Fest!

Gabi has broken just about all of the 10 commandments and is guilty of 5 of the 7 deadly sins. Take your pick of punishments to fit. I'd say let her suffer a really debilitating stroke which paralyzes half her face and one side of her body and leave her friendless and without the love of her family who thus won't care enough to come visit her in some poorly run nursing home where the staff don't care about the kind of treatment those folks get, just like she was about to do with her father. First though she has to be tricked and humiliated into confessing that she was the one who caused her mother's death in that car wreck that caused her father's paralysis then confess that she tried to burn her daughter alive and conspired with Feo to make Sofia fall down those stairs and lose her baby -her own grandchild. I thought of her also being made to clean human slop or toilets somewhere for the rest of her life but that just doesn't seem final enough.

Jeri, I have that copy of People en Español. My daughter bought it for me just the other day. That's all I will say about it or what is in it on this blog. ? : > ))

I am surprised at the great ratings this show continues to get in Mexico, but I figure there is a legitimate cultural component to it that we may never understand up here north of the border. If the so-called comedy shows they broadcast up here are any indication of the kind of taste they have, then they better change whatever they put into the water down there because it begs the question can "Idiocracy" be far behind? (Darned scary movie, that one!)

Thanks, Cakes, for that detailed recap. I only caught the last 10 minutes of the girls leaving and the boys pleading with them to forgive them. I think that the commentors made excellent points about the lack of gratitude for all that the Reyes/Robles team has done for the girls and Abuelo. Girls...hel-LO...THE GUYS DIDN'T KILL YOU...They didn't love you and leave you...They helped you escape from that demon Ferd and your crazy , sadistic mother and MARRIED YOU ...And they aren't even mentionning the fact that your old married dad seduced their naive young sister. Maybe you should be asking for their forgiveness. Plus... remember..they skinnydip every chance they get and take lots of showers sans shower curtain. Maybe you should rethink things and adjust those attitudes. ..A good man is hard to find. And, I'm sure that the local mujers are already lining up to take your places. So where will the plot meander from here ???? And how long before those spoiled, stupid chicks come to their senses and start missing that pan and the Reyes/Robles..... charm . P.S. ''Mexidoon''...good one , Randy...Welcome.

Cakes - I forgot to thank you for the large size font in your recap. It is nice for my aging eyes.

Thanks for the idea PanQue. The next half of the telenovela can be called "The Adventures of Pablito, Mariachi and Friends" sorta like superheroes who solve crimes as they do seem to be way ahead of the rest of Cd Serdan in the brain department. Their first assignment is to find and dispose of the nuclear waste plaguing this area and its residents. Then, maybe the girls will come to their senses and Juan will learn to read. G in CA

Jardinera, What 2 of the deadly sins id she not guilty of?TU....mhm

I think you are onto something. If we could just get Capricho onto this case, I'm sure he could crack everything wide open, I mean seriously this is one smart horse, he comes like a dog when called and can even dance! Mr. Ed could be the sidekick and enforcer!

Randy in Seattle

mhm: Sloth and Gluttony, but then come to think of it, is being part of the "idle rich" considered slothful? Gabi's full of nervous energy; it's just not directed at doing anything useful. So, we may be splittin' horsehairs here..... Hmmmm.

Doris: I believe I used Verdana "normal" font. Glad it helps you. JudyB says it helps her also and it's adjustable on anyone's own computer screen to small for 20/20 folks.
===

Dorado Dave: It never fails to amaze me that AN can still play a fairly young and fresh-faced ingenue at nearly 40. (Hubby says it's got to be due to camera filters.) Nobody has a smile like hers and it does melt the screen. I do understand why she's brought back to the screen time after time. She is definitely holding her own against EY.

I agree, Cakes...Adela and Eduardo make a very handsome couple. They are both beautiful people. I like their scenes together, but it looks like there wouldn't be many of those for awhile...que lastima.

Thanks Cakes, loved the recap and the episode was the best yet. I agree with so many of the comments. Too bad it doesn't end her. I'm not really interested in the subplot about the land and the babies who were given away over 20 years ago. I agree with all the comments about the 3unforgiving sisters. Sofia deserves everything she has to put up with for being such a fool going back to Feo and Gabi. (I just hope they dont endanger the baby). Now for the dumb, dumber and most dumb brothers. That confession left a whole lot to be desired. I'm not sure of my initial reaction if my husband of less than a year told me "I love you now, but a year ago I came to your house to kill you". I would need time to absorb that. iwasgoing back to thetra I'm lef

I was sharing the recap and blogs with my non-viewing friend. We agreed that the galloping by horseback while pregnant with said endangered hijo, takes the cake. The only thing left would be Sofia shushing down some ski slope.Pretty tough to do while dressed as a Disney Princess. Maybe she'd be wearing the Mulan ensemble. mhm

Hi, Cakes aka Jardinera -- Actually you are correct, Crabi has taken care of all the deadly sins, including sloth & gluttony -- e.g., Sloth -- she's always lying around in her bed faking it with a little throw blanket, and sometimes reading until she has to fake it loudly when someone comes by (definitely TOO much time on her hands!) -- and Gluttony -- man, the way she swills that cognac, that would definitely have to qualify as pigginess.

But as far as fitting punishment -- hmmm -- she always wants everything to belong to her, and is always plotting to get money and land from other people, including from her family members. Sothere is going to have to be some way to toss her out into the streets (the way she's threatening to do to everyone else all the time) -- and take away every cent and all her possessions. She'll be sitting in the gutter begging in front of the Panaderia or Padre Tadeo's iglesia! She also hates being talked about and laughed at -- so she'll have to dress like Quintina while sitting there.
Oooooooh would she Hate That!
Especially when Capricho and Mariachi come by and laugh at her!

It is interesting that among the 'young girls' of FELS. Ruth is the oldest at 44(looks real good though) Maracuya is 40,Rosario,Sofia,Sarita and Jimena are in their 30's Sarita and Jimena just having turned 30. Just saying....

Anon. 10:50 -- "I'm not sure of my initial reaction if my husband of less than a year told me "I love you now, but a year ago I came to your house to kill you". I would need time to absorb that. " That thought was at the back of my mind while writing the recap, and wish I could have been clearheaded enough to add it in, but it didn't really bubble through till you posted it. --When you're right, you're right. Like Tadeo and Eva, we know the truth and we have lived through it with the Reyes's. We're prejudiced about "our jonnie, our babies, our boys". --On the other hand, how many times have we wanted to do nasty things to people and knew that later, lucky for us, we'd cooled down and gotten over the initial gut reaction? Jus' sayin'.......it's not looney Mexidoon, for sure, and murder most foul was not our intent. Maybe Juan could have eased into the topic over time and had Sofia thinking about what and how she would react to a situation like that to get her sense of reason to overcome the fight and flight reaction she did have? It's Novelaland after all.
=========
If the girls were smart they'd head back to the convent to cool off and talk it over with the only other smart person in town, the Mother Superior. There has got to be some better idea than going back to the Hacienda de Horrores to Mad Mama and Felonious Fer.

A fitting end for Gabi would be having to work in a taquería, making the tacos.

Either that, or cleaning out Capricio's stall.

Thanks for the recap. I was sniffling a little but when Pablito entered the picture I was in full-blown boo hoo mode. That kid makes me cry every time. So we have ridding a horse as a new "endangering the Hijo" item and I think maybe standing too close to the glowing flower would qualify because of all the radioactivity. Wood of the day anyone?

Sorry, word of the day...not wood. My computer is acting screwy again.

Work in a taqueria and have to wear Thrift Store clothing.

Wood of the day: Bamboo!

I suck. I haven't watched this yet, nor have I read the recap. No time. I'll make sure I'm caught up before I do tonight's, of course, but I knew that breakup episode was coming and I was dreading it.

It sounds as though at least they did a good acting job.

As for the works of Sr. Mejia, the only other of his creations I've seen was Mundo de Fieras. I didn't love it, but it was okay. Mostly humorless, though. There was a cheese factor, but it was more like a stinky Limburger cheese IMO.

Cakes- you were exactly right in all that you wrote in your last post. The goils have put themselves in a baad spot with their reaction to the confessionand if I were one of them, the convent, or under a bridge would be my choice before returning to the known horrors of mommy's house. Here is a basic question that really plagies me- if Augie was the original owner of San Augustin, and Bernie left evrything to Sofia, why does Crabi have the right to run everyone off the place? Is it just that she has held the power, and that no one knows tha whole truth in the matter? Anyone understand it better than me?

I think Feo deserves a "Final Destination" kind of death: a chain reaction of sub-fatal mishaps ending in a grisly demise.

Like he accidentally has some of his own chloroform. He's too dizzy to keep away from the adorable scarlet snake, who bites him in self-defense. As he pulls his fist away in pain he accidentally punches Mr. Ed. The horse stomps and crushes his foot (later Mr. Ed will be given a medal for this unselfish act), and then a conveniently placed gas can gets knocked off its shelf and douses the guy.

As Feo slithers out of there, his belt buckle scrapes some concrete, creating a spark, and he catches fire. He rolls to put it out, and crawls out of there all broken and smashed and scorched. Crabi, who doesn't drive often and isn't good at it, is speeding away from the hacienda to her own date with doom, doesn't see Feo there on the ground, and runs him over.

Coyote finds him half-dead and tosses him into the lagoon, where he almost drowns, but Libia's ghost doesn't want him there so she relocates him to the water's edge and sends out a call to all the woodland creatures. They feast on his helpless not-yet-dead body, and a runaway fighting rooster throws in his two pesos as well.

Very imaginative Julie. I like it and so fitting----:)

To the --When you're right, you're right. Like Tadeo and Eva, we know the truth and we have lived through it with the Reyes's. We're prejudiced about "our jonnie, our babies, our boys". --

I am more pragmatic..I'd be all flattered like Damn Dude..I must be all that; I think it is hawt, kinda of like hawt hate monkey sex..that turns out good in the end

What a great recap of the episode we knew was coming! I was talking to my Cuban friend who watches 4 hrs of novellas each night and she was commenting on the girls more refined speech compared to the guys. This made me think that maybe there is more than a little class warfare going on here. Sarita's 'I knew it' means 'I knew people of your sort were up to something'! It makes Juan's gesture to Quintina to 'not shame herself' more meaningful in that he is acknowledging that once again they have been made conscious of the class distinction that seemed to have melted but in reality was just covered with a thin veneer. Ok ok, I know this is Fuego and you can't get all literary with it, but it does have its moments. As far as finishes go, I think the waterfall should figure in to Feo's demise. How a bout a Sherlock Holmes-Professor Moriarty struggle at the top of the loud falls between Feo and Juan. For Gabriella, that staircase should be in the scene. Perhaps she descends the stairs to meet the authorities and says something such as ' I'm ready for my clseup Mr. DeMille' oops-wrong sendup.

Abuelo P

No one can have more sorrowful and grisly endings than Lisabeta and Tia in Pasión. It is still very vivid. Whatever they cook up for Fernando and Gabi can't be as haunting as those slow, humiliating, and tortuous deaths.

When something shocking happens, you react first, then later, rationality returns. When Libia was killed, the brothers rashly swore a blood oath of vengeance. Later, they realized things were a bit more complex.

The same thing will happen with the girls. Right now, they are hurt by the betrayals. It doesn't matter what Juan & company say. Ditto for Augustin being hurt by Eva's silence.

But with time (and I actually don't think it'll take too long), they'll all realize the greater picture, that no one's perfect, and that forgiveness is sweet.

Connie, I am all over wood of the day! A nice sturdy piece to smack some of the stupid out of a few heads!

Julie, your ending for Feo - spectacular! You outdid yourself, and that is no mean feat.

Ending for Crabi - yes, she must be left penniless, but I hadn't considered the other side - "what will people think?" I think the town gossip should be listening through the door while she is seducing her son-in-law, crowing to him about her various deeds, painted with self-righteousness. Word would spread through Mexidoon within 20 minutes, with plenty of embellishment.

The result? As she is begging, penniless, outside the bakery, everyone who passes would whisper loudly, "Can you believe what she did to her own daughter?" "No wonder her husband couldn't stand to touch her." "She's probably drunk again. You know, don't you, that she killed her own mother, and cackled over her grave. I've heard she can turn herself into a black cat."

What is the name of the other novela for Spanish learners? Not Destinos. Also, I just learned about yet another one; I haven't looked at it yet. Mi Vida Loca.

Thanks for 2 days of recaps, crew! Once again, I was busy & missed Thurs. & Friday but no loss. In fact, I'm not sure if I could have watched the entire confession episode. Sounds very repetitive & so overwrought.

As for Feo & Crabi's punishment, I suggest the medieval specialty (reserved for traitors) called drawing & quartering. First, you hang the scum until they just lose consciousness. Then, you take them down & disembowel them, taking care not to kill them. Then, you burn their innards.

The coup de grace: hacking off each limb, one at a time, finishing off with a nice beheading. Be sure to stick the head on a pike and place it at a well-traveled cross road so all can see the villain's final reward.

Fuego Maggie

p.s. 20 weeks????? Egad...enough already.

I have scanned the photos of Eduardo from the People en Español issue and posted them in an album. There were three nice portraits of him.

And I must say, poring over those photos gave me some very disturbing dreams last night. ;-)

If you click on the link at my name, it will take you to an album, where you can scroll down to the very bottom and see two sets of thumbnails.

The first set of three gives you very large files, where you can see the pores on his face and the reflection in his eyes. You just have to CLICK ON THROUGH to the largest version. (A couple times.)

Otherwise, the second set of three are just regular sized.

Happy viewing!

Click on the images THREE TIMES total to get the jumbo sized pictures. I just counted.

Click on the thumbnail, then the preview, then the next image again to get the largest.

Perhaps when spreading the gossip about Crabi they could use Quintina's bullhorn and just walk through the streets bellowing out all her sins! Now that would be funny! ;-}

dorado dave, the scene where Gabriela and Fernando find out that Sofía owns the hacienda is the first time anybody hears about that.

They asked the lawyer why he hadn't informed anyone of the terms of Bernardo's new will, and he said it wasn't time yet; Sofía doesn't inherit until she has her FIRST CHILD.

Dum de dum dum. IIRC, that set in motion that whole rigmarole with Fernando's trap on the staircase for Sofía to fall over, so that she would lose the child.

When that didn't work, Fernando decided to stay married to Sofía and not take up with Gabriela. He's in a pretty good position legally. He probably feels like he dodged a bullet, not marrying the disinherited widow. He has been a pretty lucky guy in some ways.

I hope we'll see more of Coyote. He's got to figure more into this somehow. I think El Jefe sent him off to look for Tio Vicente didn't he?

Molly, I think "our boys" need some serious consoling (including Pedro). Maybe a nice shower and then a little swim...and add a massage in there somewhere! Hmmmm..

Thanks for the perfect recap Cakes. We knew the long delayed confession was coming and it turned out to have the disasterous effect we anticipated. Now, hopefully, things will start turning around with the land, the love lives and communnication in general. Jeri, thanks for posting the EY pictures. That smile, sigh...Diana in MA

Maybe my memory is failing or maybe it's Mejía's scriptwriting, but I don't remember the Reyes Bros. vowing to KILL the Elizondo sisters. I thought they vowed to woo them, cause them to fall madly in love, and then dump them and leave them flat. That was my idea of the venganza. Don't remember a murder aspect at all.

Julie, your death for Feo is CLASSIC! The medieval drawing and quartering would also be nice!

Oh yes Connie, we some cheering up tonight. A nice skinny dipping swim would be grand!

In addition to Julie's scenario, if there's anything left of Feo we could tie his arms to Mr. Ed and tie his legs to Capricho and have them run off in opposite directions...Need I say more?

thanks, Jeri, for reminding me of that twist, that it's not common knowledge about Bernie's will...Novelera- if my feeble memory serves me correctly, los hermanos Reyes initially rode to the hacienda to kill 'em all. Eva actually de-fused that bomb. Then the boys found out that there were three daughters, and swore to take their vengance as you described, and the rest is becoming history

Julie & Maggie ***Yikes !!!!***You both are scaring me with those VIVID descriptions of Ferd's demise. What are you girls drinking ??? To quote one of my favorite Julie lines : ''Oh noes !'' I just want Juan to open a big can of WhoopAss on old Ferd. Then, maybe Ferd wanders into Mr. Ed's stall , and Mr. Ed finishes the job.,,,poetic justice since he has been so mean to that horse. Jeri***Thank you for those excellent photos of Eddie. He is one fine speciman of a man.,,,big and brawny. Dorado Dave ***I appreciated your suggestion for a new residence for the girls ""the convent or under a bridge''...both would be better choices than returning to an abusive mother and a guy with NO moral compass. Well, I am bracing myself for an angst-filled episode....maybe a cocktail would help ease the pain,,,my pain , I mean.

Jeri....welcome back & thank you for the pics of E Y from People mag. G in CA

Dorado Dave...i wonder why Augie hasn't seen a lawyer to sue Feo for tricking him into signing over his lands? And did Bernardo own the lands or not if Augie owned them to sign over to Feo? Augie should have changed his will so Crabi would not inherit a thing knowing she was threatening to kick him off his own property. I'm so confused. G in CA

Dave, now I recall, you're right about the brothers' original plan. I can still picture them riding up with rifles. You don't normally take a rifle to win a woman's heart. Leastwise, not in mi pueblo.

I've always wondered that too. If the land and hacienda belong to Augie why does Crabi have the power to bully everyeone and kick them out in the cold. A person can only bully someone if the other person lets them. So why do people put up with it? (I know, I know this is TN-land)

G in CA: about the property thing with Augie, I can't figure it out, either. I thought Gramps owned the mansion house, and so maybe Bernie meant all the property and remaining associated bank accounts? For now I'd just chalk it up to script inconsistencies.
====
Dorado Dave and Paula P: I also was confused about the guns initially. It could be cuz I'm not a native speaker, but back then just who did they ever say they were literally going to kill? They actually planned to masacre the widow and all the help? I thought they were using the guns for macho effect and/or as intimidation.

Abuelo P: Your friend's interpretation does add another level to the cultural aspects of the discussion. Thanks for commenting. Maybe she can clarify for us all about the property question regarding Augie's supposed hacienda ownership and what Bernardo actually left to Sofia once she has a child.

No alas, for so many reasons..Crabi & Fer will die, it is a telenovela rule, first Fer has killed, Libia the saintly, Ber the other saintly, old crazy drunk lady, prison guy. He feels nothing for his own spawn, he is a rapist and he mocks God. Yeah, he can not be saved.

Crabi is die, because she too has mocked God by lying, she stole a baby, she is just one nasty bitch..

Yes they will both die in the last 48 hours, but don't be sad cause the two will commit many, many, many more crimes. Remember I've seen the producer's prior work.

Julie: Your punishment had me laughing so hard!

Hombre: I was thinking the same thing about reason taking a rear seat to bloodlust and fear.

Eeek, I feel kind of like this is my fault, since I wondered aloud in Blog about demise of villains.

I had in mind the multiple smash-type death scenes --like in wiley coyote and road runner-- where one character is flattened, springs back up and is bounced off cliff, springs back up -- etc. That way Feo could get it a number of different ways, satisfy all of us, and yet still be alive and it would be sort of unreal. Whatever way it is done though, I think it will need to be a very public event.

Crabi, on the other hand, I think will only be humiliated badly and not die -- and hers should also be very public if only because she hates that kind of attention so much. Maybe they'll arrest her in the zocalo with handcuffs (!!AY!!) and take her to prison in Puebla in the station wagon the Comisario uses for transport -- and everyone can line up and wave good bye!

On another topic, Don Agustin said once that he is 20% owner of the Hacienda, and has shown that he had some kind of money that Feo cheated him out of, and also has gold dubloons in a bag someplace. But how the divvying up of the Hacienda goes, & why Bernardo had the major share, & why Crabi has a major share now -- that's part of the mystery of this thing -- but one that seems may never be explained.

PanQue

Thanks for the excellent recap, Jardinera. Julie, I think you covered all the bases for a Feo death sequence. Now all I need is enough enthusiasm to make it through the next 20 (!?!) weeks.
La Paloma

No, they didn't explicitly say originally that they were going to kill anyone, but it was implied with the guns.

Still, it was a surprise to me when they kept saying "we were going to kill you!" in this episode (which I finally saw today). They didn't come right out and say "murder" when they were planning to do it, but now they won't shut up about it when they're confessing a year later??

When I say "oh noes," I'm not quoting myself, I'm quoting kitties. If you're not familiar with lolspeak and lolcats, go here for enlightenment.

Woops. The oh noes are here.

As I recall, the Reyes bros rode out to San Augustin to kill everyone; It wasn't a sworn vendetta yet. At first, they swore a vague revenge against the family, then it was against the daughters, to seduce and dump them. I could very well be wrong, I only watch the episodes when they air, no rewind, (worse- no fast forward!); so it's very possible that I've missed or have forgotten something.

Hi, Dorado Dave -- Yup, I think you summarized it correctly. First the brothers swore venganza against the family & Bernardo. Then when they found out that the Elizondo daughters were Bernardo's most cherished thing, they decided to make them fall in love with them and then dump them to make them feel as badly as Libia had felt.
I also have regular tv, no fast fwd or rwd, and also just watch along when the episodes air. I think we are both on the left coast also (is it you who calls it that?)
