Cuidado-Friday 11/14/08 "Marichuy receives two offers which she's got to refuse. What will a poor girl do?"
Marichuy is in with the pre-op drugged Rocio. Marichuy is holding her hand and not saying much and Juan Miguel walks into the room. They stare at each other and the theme song plays in the background as we the audience realize they are pining for each other. MC gets up to leave and JM tells her that there is no need for her to run away from him. She says that’s not the case, she’s got to go to work. He brings up how she shouldn’t need to work with the maintenance she’s getting in the divorce. She tells him that she doesn’t want to take it. He insists that the law says she’s entitled to it, therefore she should take it. She’s adamant, she doesn’t want the money. Juanmi asks why not, does she want to end up out on the street again, with them one day having to call him to tell him she’s in jail. She retorts that believe it or not, if she were to spend the rest of her life behind bars, she would never let them bother JM with her plight.
Stefania tells Isa that she plans on talking to Onelia to get some more info to advance her “operation nab husband” plan into action. Isa is worried that Onelia is dangerous and she warns Stef to be careful with her. One mistake and Onelia will discover their plan. Stef doesn’t worry. However, Isa continues to still be afraid one wrong step and everything will fall apart. Stef assures her tia that it will all be okay. Isa says again that she doesn’t want their plan to be discovered, it would be the end for them both. Stef says both of us? Remember it was your plan all along. This obviously upsets Isa as she realizes that Stef will hang her out to dry to save her own skin. Stef changes the subject and brings up how Mayita says that Viviana is alive and that she’s talked to her.
Mayita finds out from Balbina that Cuate has gone back to living with Marichuy. She has a temper tantrum.
Juanmi tells Mari that they are acting like children and should behave like the adults that they are. They were married and MC is therefore provided a maintenance. She scoffs that what does the law know, they were only together for one night. Juanmi gets a dreamy look in his eyes and says that it was a night that was very special. MC is affected by his words, but she tells him that it may have been that for him, but she’s willing to forget it. He asks her if she’s sure, he’d like to repeat that one night a thousand times over, it was sweet and they were so happy. They stare into each other’s eyes and Cecilia comes to the door of the room but turns around immediately sensing she’d be interrupting something.
Viv is on a plane, heading back to Spain. She thinks over her plans to seduce Gustavo once she gets there and too bad for her friend Leticia. That’s life, she thinks.
Padre Anselmo discusses Marichuy with Adrian. PA encourages Adrian to give MC some space and let her sort out everything with Juanmi. Adrian says that she needs to stay away from him and she’ll never forgive him for what happened. PA says that in reality, nothing happened. Juanmi was intoxicated and hugged her and kissed her a little too forcefully, but that’s the extent of it. She was young and it left a terrible impression on her, but it should be something she can work through. Especially since JM is sorry for his aggression and having caused trauma to MC.
JM and MC draw into each other, nearly kissing, but Mari takes this as her time to back away and leave. Cece is hovering outside and she enters the room as MC is leaving. Alone with Juan, she asks him if the separation is a definite thing. JM says yes it is. Well, it didn’t seem that way to me when I got here- Cece states. They have things to work out, but that’s all, JM concludes. Cece adds that the attitude of both of them seemed like things aren’t over. She asks JM if he still cares for MC and he says yes, he does. Cece thinks what does this mean for Stef, who’s hell bent on winning Juanmi back.
Stef is over at the castle and she’s brought a teddy bear to Mayita, trying to bribe her. Mayita tells Stef about Cuate being taken away and how MC left everything else there, but took the dog. Stef says that’s because MC is bad.
Mari returns home and finds Cande collapsed at the kitchen table with beans spilled all around her. The neighbors gather and Padre Anselmo says that this is serious and Cande’s going to need to stay in the hospital. Coincidentally, it will be the same hospital where Rocio and Vicente are staying. They discuss how Cande’s been working too hard and that had to contribute to her collapsing.
Onelia and Stef plan on tossing out the things that Marichuy left behind. Stef is convinced that MC left them there as a future pretext for returning.
Vicente goes to see Rocio before her operation. She’s taken into the operating room and Vicente heads back to his room.
Cande gets admitted into the hospital and she tells Padre Anselmo that she’s never been sick before. He tells her that there’s a first time for everything. She worries about Marichuy. Cande wonders when she’ll get out of the hospital and PA tells her she’s got to stay there as long as the doctors order.
MC runs into Eduardo in the hospital corridor. He wonders what she’s doing there and she tells him that Cande’s been admitted. He finds out what room Cande’s in and then runs back to Juanmi and Cece and fills them in on the latest.
Cece decides she’s going to visit Cande. Meanwhile, PA decides he’s going to check on Rocio. The two pass each other in slo-mo in the corridor. Padre Anselmo does a double take when he sees Cece, but he keeps walking—it is like he can’t quite figure out where he knows this woman from, but he knows he recognizes her.
When Cece gets to Cande’s room, Mari doesn’t want to speak to her, but Cande insists that MC not be rude.
PA finds out that Rocio’s gone into the operating room. JM finds out more info on Cande’s condition from the priest. He tells PA that Mari refused her maintenance. PA says that’s not surprising. JM says well she’s going to need the money now, especially with Cande being sick. JM proposes that PA take the money and pass it onto MC, not telling her what part JM has in the whole arrangement. PA doesn’t agree, he assures JM that there are plenty of people in the barrio that care for MC and Cande, they’ll make sure the are cared for properly.
Cece offers to help Cande in anyway necessary. Marichuy tells her that they don’t need anything, so don’t worry. Cece says she’ll return soon to check back in on her. Cande says she hopes that she won’t be in the hospital too long and Cece says she hopes that too. MC tells Cande that she’ll be in there as long as the doctors tell her to be there. Cece leaves and Cande comments what a shame it was the way that Cece treated MC when she lived with them. MC says actually Cece was very nice to her, but she was hard pressed and had to believe Stef. Besides, it was Stef and the evil aunt that really made things terrible for MC. Cece always treated her like a real daughter, she just couldn’t side with her against Stef.
Juanmi and Padre Anselmo go to check on Cande. They almost pass Cece again in the corridor, but Cece sees the back of PA and there is a spark of recognition on her part. When Cece gets to Rocio’s room she gets some info from the chismoso Eduardo. He tells her that Padre Anselmo is a family friend and that Marichuy will not take a maintenance from Juanmi. Cece asks why they broke up, but Ed decides to hold his counsel and doesn’t tell Cece the details. Cece adds that she’s sorry to be nosy, but she really does care for MC, as if she were her daughter.
MC tends to Cande. She leaves the room and literally runs into Juanmi. He says he was coming to find out what’s going on with Cande. MC says don’t bother, she’s nothing to you. They argue a bit more about MC’s refusal to take the maintenance. Then MC faints and Juanmi catches her. He repeatedly asks, “what’s wrong mi amor?” She comes to and Juanmi continues to hold onto her. Stef walks up and catches them “embracing”. She demands to know what’s going on and JM tells her that Mari fainted. Stef mumbles that MC is an opportunist when they head back into Cande’s room. Stef heads in another direction, to find out news of Rocio and learns the operation is over and that JM’s sister is being brought back to her room.
In Cande’s room, Juan fusses over Mari. Telling her that she’s pale and checking her pulse. He says she should get checked out and suggests that MC consider having Ed take a look, he’s in the hospital now. Juan urges MC and Cande to come to him if they need anything. He insists that they give him a call. Neither looks like they’ll take him up on the offer. Stef comes in the room at this point and tells JM that Rocio is out of surgery. Cande learns that she’s the meddlesome Stef and has a few choice words for her. Stef leaves and JM tells Cande he’ll be back to check on them. Stef (out in the hall) tells Juanmi they need to hurry or Rocio will be waking up and wondering where Juan is. Cande and MC exchange a look, they’ve got Stef’s number. JM reluctantly heads out, trailing behind Stef.
When JM sees Rocio, she tries to talk. He tells her to not talk, but assures her that the surgery went well. She asks for Vicente and JM tells her that he’ll be along soon.
Cande asks MC if she’s doing any better. Mari starts to describe how she felt when she fainted. She says it is just like when she rode the roller coaster at Chapultepec Park. Her description seems to give Cande a bit of nausea and Cande wonders if what MC is describing is how pregnant women are supposed to feel. This leaves MC a little impactada, but Cande moves on and says that can’t be the case with you, there must be another reason you aren’t feeling well. Cande asks if MC ate an appropriate breakfast and they determine that with all the work she’s done, she needs to eat better. Cande urges MC to go see JM’s friend, as long as he’s in the building. Marichuy looks like this would be the last thing on earth she’d ever do.
Vicente goes to see Rocio and tells her not to speak, he’ll be there for her. She should just rest. Rocio ends up having quite the crowd with JM, Cece, Stef, Mercedes, Ed and Vicente all visiting. Cece says that she’ll leave and asks Stef if she’d like to go with her. Stef declines and says that she’ll remain with JM.
Cece goes to say goodbye to MC and Cande. She tells them to let her know if they need anything. MC makes some comment that I missed, but it had to do with what happened before when MC needed her. Cece apologizes and says that she doesn’t know who was right or wrong in what ever transpired between Stef and Marichuy, she just knows that she wishes MC would still be near her, because she’s like a daughter to her. She gestures as if to caress MC’s hair and leaves. MC is obviously affected by Cece’s words.
The next day Amador comes to visit MC early in the morning. She’s busy getting laundry done and Amador is once again telling her she’s working too hard and that he’d like her to act in his play (he just wants her on the casting couch, I have no doubt). She’s not interested and tells him to go. He reminds her that he can make her a star and he leaves his business card with her.
JM and Ed discuss Marichuy’s fainting the day before. JM says it has to do with the heavy load she’s carrying now that Cande’s sick.
Viv is back in Spain. She is greeted warmly by Leticia and, when Gustavo isn’t as receptive, Viv asks if he’s not happy to see her. He says she’s always welcome in their house. Viv lies about having problems with Juanmi and works it so that Leticia offers to let her stay a few month.
Marichuy heads out to do deliveries and she comments on the hard work involved in doing laundry. She accepts it as the lot of poor people. Afterward, she ends up going to visit Cande in the hospital and wants to give her the money. Cande insists MC keep it since it is from her hard work. MC tells her that it is clear now what she’s got to do, she’s got a plan for them to live without money problems.
Adrian accepts a letter for Marichuy. It is a summons from a tribunal. When MC returns home, he gives it to her and she speculates what it means.
Juanmi gets a similar letter. He opens it and takes off and goes to find Onelia. He demands to know “what is the meaning of this.” END OF EPISODE

OK, I know its novela-land but Oneila trying to take Mayita. How can you sue for custody when (1) you're the grandparent, you have no rights (2) you are not employed in fact you live with your son-in-law whom you are suing. I mean I know its to show how wicked she is but this is so stupid.
And I'm so disgusted with Viv...we know she's not just going to take her friends husband, she's going to try to kill her "friend" too.
Just when you thought Steph couldn't be more annoying she's back and worse than ever. How could you want a man that does not want you? And you know how he looks at the love of his love and will NEVER look at you like that. It seems this fantasy works for her but I don't get it.
The high point of the episode was JM and MC interacting with one antoher.
I’m getting scared about Mexican hospitals – no cardiac unit for Cande? No post-op for Rocio? I had heard Mexico had pretty good doctors, but now I’m wondering about the facilities they work in.
I got real nervous when Amador dropped into Cande’s place and Mari was there all alone. Given that he’s attacked her on other occasions, this was a perfect opportunity for him. I wonder what held him back..
Now, JM was supposed to take in Mari to keep her out of jail, but she’s run off, and nobody is threatening to put her back in jail – what’s up with that?
Alas, most of the words I write down get forgotten immediately!
So, now we know for sure that the origin of Mari's pesadilla was a grab, hug and forceful kiss. Although not the best behavior, it certainly is not the worst behavior and puts Juanmi on the plus side of this crazy equation. This means that we can now snark at all his cute little mannerisms, like putting his thumb to his eye (at least he's not sticking it in his nose), tearing up (as in crying)whenever, blind stupidity when it comes to Marichuy, and setting himself up to be henpecked by a coven of witchy women.
Amador seems to have had a personality change. Mari was in complete control when he paid her a visit, and he actually seemed concerned - or, is he just a good "actor." Please, don't let her fall for one of the oldest tricks in the book - the casting couch invitation.
Beckster: I've never watched the Young and the Restless - or any other soap - believe it or not, so, I don't know how to compare the music in Cuidado with them. Anyway, yup - the good music plays when Mari and Juanmi are looking into each other's eyes and transmitting "I'll love you for all eternity, but, it's going to take an eternity to get there." We hear the creepy music when Amador, the wolf, and Vivi, the wolfess, appear.
I finally concluded that this novela is supposed to be unrealistic at times. We have to be thankful for the times that it is realistic, so it can make senses. Other times I will just ruled it as being part of the telenovelas- world that they make up for us to question.
I felt sorry for our main characters in the story - Marichuy and Juan Miguel, our poor love birds. IT'S not ENOUGH THAT THEY HAVE TO DEAL WITH AND OVERCOME WHAT HAPPEN IN THEIR shared PAST (the attack that scarred them both), but now they will have to deal with the people that want them apart. The enemy list of people that want their own goals to be reached FOR their own selfish reasons, are Onelia, Vivana, Fakey(Estefania), Supreme Witch(Isa), Martirio (nasty mean maid at the Casa Velarde that reports to Supreme Witch & Fakey), Amador, and even Patricio. Other misguided people that think or assumed that Juan Miguel & Marichuy shouldn't be together for whatever reasons are Candelaria, Adrian, Cecilia, Mayita, and Eduardo.
Other people in the barrio who just want Marichuy to fall on her face are Casilda, and her best friend(don't know her name, but they hang out together).
Like I said, "Poor Marichuy".
I really despise Estefania (Fakey). I hate it when Fakey gets territorial over Juan Miguel, his house and life. I would like to say to Fakey is that MARICHUY IS STILL JUAN MIGUEL’S WIFE. From what I know, I thought he didn’t sign the paper yet. Even if he did, there is still time until it gets finalized which takes time. I should know, for I get divorced. Another thing is You, Fakey, have no rights to question Juan Miguel when he is holding his wife. It is like you have a claim on him. Fakey doesn’t have any say so. He reject you long time ago remember.
I thought to myself who is calling who what “opportunist” when she herself get the first chance to find an opportunity for herself when she heads in another direction, to find out news of Rocio and learns the operation is over and that Juan Miguel’s sister is being brought back to her room. ALSO IN THE PAST, FAKEY DIDN’T WANT TO COME TO THE HOSPITAL TO SEE ROCIO – she said that Rocio was never been on her side. Rocio hangs out with Marichuy and become friends. Now it is a good opportunity for her – Fakey. to fake support to Rocio (now Fakey can use Rocio) to be close to Juan Miguel..
I think Estefania and Isabela’s punishment is the denounced them as being FRAUDS across the front of the newspaper. Then placed both of them in jail.
One or two things that I want to know are What is Adrian's mother's name. What was the letter dealing with that was delivered to both Marichuy and Juan Miguel? I thought it was a summon to appear in some kind of court dealing with custody of Mayita?
Genevieve
The other plot device that bothers me is how Mayita is allowed to get off the school van by herself and just stroll across the road. There are never any adults in sight to see that she has even arrived home.
On the plus side, even though Mercedes is a minor character, I like her warmth and caring. She'd make a great mother-in-law for Rocio.
J.J.
NinaK - yes, Mari isn't really JM's wife, but that Fakey heffa Estafa doesn't know that. I too was wondering who the heck she thought she was to rag on JM for talking to his wife, especially when he hasn't agreed to take Stef back if he and Mari break it off. Karen, I don't think Stef cares if Jm ever falls in love with her, she just wants his money.
Maggie, I don't think real Mexican hospitals are like this one (and it is supposed to be low-income one at that, but still). Over at QE folks joked around about how quiet the hospital there was, how it was hardly crowded, the lack of IVs, etc. They just give you what they need for the scene and leave it at that. Realistically, I can't imagine Rocio waking up from anesthesia that quickly, but one can never let the facts get in the way of a good story...
Karen, I have no idea what Onelia plans to support herself and Mayita with, unless she gets a hefty pension from JM along with the kid. Who knows, the family had money in the past (Viv went to boarding school in Europe) so it's possible she has a nice trust fund somewhere she's just never needed to touch 'cause she was mooching from her SIL. I think the only reason Viv needs to get to the jewels, etc., is because she is presumed dead. At one point she was using funds from a hidden bank account, but JM had it canceled because he though she was dead and some unscrupulous person was stealing money (ok, some unscrupulous person was, but it was the account's owner).
Beckster, I don't think it's the Y&R theme they play, but something similar. The DooL theme is different and has strings and horns in it. I never watched Y&R, but the theme is pretty famous. I did watch DooL, but as I said, the theme was different.
JJ - I'm with you, no clue why Mari lets Amador within 15 feet of her. I do fear that she's going to fall for his casting offer because she's so desperate for money. Never understood why people would be more willing to do something dangerous for money rather than swallow their pride and accept help from people just because they were mad at them (like Ceci and JM). Silly girl.
Genevieve, I can't remember Adrian's mom's name, but the summons was for Mayita's custody hearing. In the previews, we see Estafa telling Mari she needs to go and testify or they'll throw her in jail, and Mari showing up in some waiting room where JM already is.
