Fuego En La Sangre, Tues. 11/25/08 - So tonight I'm gonna party like it's 1999 or was it 1899

Before: Baby girl food fight, Big girl tequila toss, pretty girls wanting to rescue the forsaken Reyez boyz, the Elizondo Sistahs show up to cast an evil eye on the proceedings, horrors.

With regards to Prince who put it so well:

Coulda sworn it was judgment day

The sky was all purple
There were people runnin' everywhere

Tryin' 2 run from the destruction
U know I didn't even care

At the party we have the gracious banker host introducing the landowners (hacendados) to the marriageable girls (casaderas). The lovely daughter Juliana and her friends Paulina and Elena come down the stairs to meet the Reyz boyz. The Reyez suddenly find their party charm under the guise of accepting a few Tequilas to toss back, why not? Each lovely selects a brother and they party like it's .... Ooops, the Elizondo trio show up. Sofia says we already know those handsome Reyes brothers. Paulina is getting on well really well with Franco and. The spitting mad younger sisters decide to enjoy a glass of wine and seem to be blending in, the unsuspecting host should watch his glassware. Jimena points out that the brothers are besotted (acarameladitos, think dripping in caramel) with these respectable girls. The sisters begin to act in aggressive ways to find some hacenditos boys and the mix gets very confusing . the host inquires innocently, Why isn't Gabriela here? She doesn't feel well, Sofia assures him before she slips away from prying questions.

At the lawyer, a feeling fine Gabi demands that the lawyer find a way to overturn this will He opines that Bernardo was angry when he changed the will not too long before he died.

Feo lays back with Rachel in the hotel room as he tells her of the turn of events that will have Sofia inheriting all of San Augustin with the will change in her favor. The irony says Raquel is that Sofia has no right to the Elizondo fortune whatsoever. She has Feo's attention. But she isn't giving it up just putting out.

Back at the party Juliana walks Juan to the door and is called in to the kitchen for something. Juan goes to find Sofia and begins double talk about how this was just all a business deal. She tells him they need to talk about the San Augustin Hacienda asap.

Abuelo tells Gabi they are lucky Feo seems to be out of their lives, he offers that no matter what is going on with Feo, they need to get along better. She lets him know she will challenge (impugnar) Bernardo's will. She wants nothing less than ALL. After he leaves the room, Gabi thinks that Sofia will give up the hacienda rights to protect her daughter even though she doesn't know which one of the babies is hers. Gabi spitefully grins that she and she alone knows which is the real daughter. YAWN

Sofia gets around to asking Juan to sell them water for the hacienda to be able to produce a harvest and he takes it as an order because he loves her but has to discuss everything with his brothers he'll get back to her but expects to help.

Back at the Reyez hacienda we have Quintina and Pablito as clowns, the nuns as, well as nuns, the babies as babies. How predictable those nuns and babies are.

Back at the Juliana trap the party heats up and Franco decides to sing a song to thrill the crowd. Oscar dances with the saucy blond, Juan gets the farmer's daughter, I mean the hacienda owner (same jokes I expect) Sarita and Jimena find guapos to dance with and every one gets some pretty eye candy action.

Feo and Raquel continue sharing old stories, she sighs at Feo's feats of love and says it's been years since Ricardo has looked at her as a woman. In her inebriation, she whines that she is as unloved as Gabi has been. Feo repeats that Juan Jose Robles loved Gabi, HA!, Raquel snorts, it is a lie, he only loved his wife Maria Libia. Feo asks, You knew them? No but Ricardo know all of them well. He envied their intense love and he hated JJ Robles, he hated him bitterly, but I don't know why.

Gabi sighs over pictures of Robles, Hubby and Feo and says none of them loved me no man has ever loved me. Maldita sean, all of them.

Junior High antics at the party with burro sighs on the sound track, the sisters begin to kick, punch and throw drinks on the young women's party frocks. Sofia regains control and says she will go to pick up the daughters at Juan's house and they all stomp out. The boyz make silly excuses for leaving women so beautiful making promises to see them again soon. Franco says they were so friendly with a wistful sigh.

Sofia and Eva and the sisters and the nuns and Quintina the women talk with babies and nuns the sisters talk of their jealousy. Quintina worries that one of the girls seems sick. Pablito looks worried, he's right there will be hell to pay.

The leave taking of the party extends into silliness, the girls are all coming to the see the harvest tomorrow. I told you this was just like the farmers jokes. Juan advises the brothers to forget the Elizondo girls. Oscar pounces with just like you are forgetting about Sofia, right? Proud of themselves the brothers swagger off on horseback. At least the horses are so beautiful they have a right to swagger all they like.

Abuelo and Sofia discuss Gabi's intention to get and control everything. Sofia intends to share all equally with Gabi and her sisters. Abuelo says Gabi will challenge her motherhood and the baby's identity and Sofia says in that case she will renounce the entire inheritance, the love of her daughter is the only thing important to her. Don't you wish Gabi could hear this proclamation.
**********
Jimena and Sarita talk up their revenge plans, green with jealousy. They feel fire in the blood but a lot of good it does them. They comment that only Sofia kept her calm. Over in the Sofia sob-room, she weeps over the snake belt while we double screen with Juan having flashbacks while he bakes bread. He can't, he can't get over the anguish of his parents death when he touches Sofia and thinks of her father's deed. Guess he can't do the deed so he beats the bread till it begs for mercy. Eva comes to hear his trouble thinking through his oath to avenge his parents. He tells Eva of his performance problems with his memories of the killing which he can't control with his conscious mind or his will power. He can't forget. Now that he can remember he can't forget. Has he had a total recall now? I'm confused.
**********
Eva wants to see Juan and Sofia happy together as she hugs him. Sofia remembers Juan looking flirty at the party, not very, but in this sad sister's eyes. Then they both remember the hay barn scenes. Juan says remembers so many happy moments with Sofia. I don't remember seeing these episodes, perhaps they are dream tapes? Ahhh now he reveals that he is trying to recover all his memories but some pieces are still missing. He leans into the big bread oven with an alarming casualness, how does he still have eyebrows? Well the camera man is in there so it can't be too hot...

Abuelo and Gabi discuss that Sofia will not sacrifice the babies to contest the hacienda. Abuelo tries to reason with Gabi that she is injuring all the girls. She realizes that they suffer but if they would find men worthy (digna) enough for them, they wouldn't suffer so. Abuelo gets the last lick in as he leaves the office telling Gabi that Feo has altered all the accounts in the hacienda and he has told her she should have been paying attention to his actions. The rare look of doubt on her sour puss takes us to break.
**********
The boys decide what to do about the water from the natural spring (ojo del agua). They will do it for the baby girls and that won't be against their pledge of revenge. Juan is practicing his speech to Sofia to a large succulent when Gabi approaches and takes on Juan. He points out that Sofia is the soul inheritor (herdadero universal). She assures him she will not lose the hacienda or control. She knows that Sofia will never provide the proof of which girl is her true daughter. Juan is proud of Sofia for not selling her daughter for Gabi's filthy (cochino) money. She marches off not aware of the big mistake she is making.

Abuelo says Sofia will have to prove which of the babies is hers. And who should come in the door but a frowzy redhead named Santa. This happy looking woman greets Abuelo enthusiastically, Abuelo gets kissed and bussed while a horrified Gabi looks on.

Juan approaches Sofia to tell her, we had decided to give you the water but your mother informed me she stays in control of the hacienda and so they had to decide she cannot have the water. They will not help her mother. So the deal is off.

Next: Gabi has a new person to torture with her jealousy. One of the babies is sick and Juan comes to see and perhaps save her with a trip for medical care. Gabi would find it easier if the niña dies. She hopes that the true child of Sofia is the one that is sick and dies. What a warm wonderful grandmotherly wish. Juan better snatch that baby and run for his life.

Wow, Doris, I just looked up your quilt and lovely blue jacket and dress. You have incredible talent as a fabricator. Fabricator is the term we use at Sew Right, my only board volunteering. This is a small school to teach women in crisis how to gain fabricating skills and basic business skills so they can start home based self employment. The transformations in these women's lives are amazing, take a look at the new site.

Cheryl: thanks very much! The episodes are starting to move along and also have a bit of humor, a welcome change. Those Reyes Boyz really know how to party!
Doris: your MOG outfit is awesome! I love the little twinklie thingys on the dress.
Cheryl: those SewRight ladies look so proud of their work; awesome knife-edge piping!
Anyway, Santa looks like she's planning on being around for awhile, hmmm...
"Creemelo"

A shout from the land of "I so don't care" in Spanish it is "I so don't give a Rat's Cula". Yes, and Cula literally means tail, so if there are any tender ears, spare me.

Thanks for the recap, I enjoyed the party like it's 1999. I find myself wanting to party like it is 1999.

Juan, your sobbing scenes just really do it for me.

Clever recap as always, Cheryl. I particularly enjoyed the musings on the cameraman in the oven and Juan practicing his speech to "a large succulent". Starting my morning with a smile...thank you!

Cheryl~~~Loved the title. Shout out to Prince. I'll have to read the recap after work. I only saw a few minutes of the show because I had to watch the finale of Dancing with the Stars. [My boy Warren came in second. That big, sweet guy can move.] I'd like to see Eduardo on that show.

Cheryl: Thanks for the recap. Finally this is moving along. I had hoped Juan would find a picture of Ricardo Uribe in the hacienda wearing the snake belt. Now, it seem the only person who knows the truth is Raquel whose only interest is herself.

Very interesting recap style, I liked the tone. Tried to watch the show but I had to turn it off when Sofie teared up again. Jeez.

Gracias, Cheryl! Nice job...you never leave in all of the filler that viewers have to sit through.

Now, how about that party? Boobs, boys, booze. It's about time our two dysfunctional clans socialized & had some fun. Nothing like a little green eyed jealousy to heat things up.

No spoiler here but seems like they're really dropping a lot of red herrings. Racqui tells Feo Slowfia isn't entitled...hmmm...what on earth could that possibly mean? So the theories that have been bouncing around here are sounding more sane:
Sofia is the daughter of Eva, Root is the spawn of Crabi, Ricardo is the murderer, Racqui is a complete dope, Feo is pond scum, Crabi can't keep a man happy to save her life, Coyote is a bald hottie, Juan forgot he has amnesia when he's thinking horny thoughts, and everything comes in 3s.

Aye caramba.

Another great title, Cheryl!

OK, new theory. Maybe Ricardo Uribe wasn't in love with Gabi, as I had been thinking until five minutes ago.

The few clues we have about their past points to a comfortable friendship or alliance - birds of a feather - rather than awkward, unrequited love. Maybe they had an affair, though.

She was in love with JJ Robles, maybe Ricardo was in love with Maria Libia. I think that pretty much explains everything. (Either that, or he suspects Raquel of having an affair with JJ, though in that case I think he'd kill her instead.)

Also: Raquel fakes a pregnancy because she cannot have children, and she thinks Ricardo doesn't know this. There's no reason to assume that she's right. Clearly Ricardo is a sneaky guy, and probably knows more than Raq thinks.

If Ricardo knows she can't have children, then he knows that whatever baby she comes home with won't be his. Meanwhile, he knows at least that Gabi's baby is Gabi's, and possibly his if they had an affair - he knows this will be a spunky child, and he'd rather have that than Raquel's anonymous bundle of joy.

I had a bunch of other theories too, but they were even more full of holes than this one.

I realize that being full of holes doesn't mean that it wouldn't fit right in. That does put a damper on a lot of the fun, because there's no advantage to looking for the most sensible answer.

I also wonder if Raquel didn't swap the babies herself, thinking that Gabi had had an affair with Ricardo, but I'm not sure if that makes any sense (not that it matters).

Thanks for the recap Cheryl. That party scene was hilarious! I thought Snofia looked especially frumpy. The other two acted like 5-year olds.

The oven shots comments are too funny! He wasn't even sweating! But I have to say I liked that scene between Juan and Eva. It seemed very genuine, I thought it let EY emote without looking like a Mexican Tom Hanks in Big.

I liked that scene too Renee. It did seem very genuine. He is just so adorable with his curly hair. Ok...If you had to make a choice...Juan or Coyote? I like Coyote's smile just for the record.

How many of us are at work today?

I'm at work & to add insult to injury, I'll be here Friday.

Sad Maggarita
:-(

Me too Maggarita. But not Friday thankfully.

Okay, my take is that Eva had twins, and Raquel took one baby(Root) and Gabi took the other (Sofia). Who know? Nothing else makes sense in this story.

Is anyone planning to watch the new Jaime Camil novela which starts on Monday?

What happened to Crabi's baby then? Maybe she lost it or sold it to the highest bidder. :-} Hmmmm.. it is all so confusing.

Do we think Rosario is part of the baby switch too? I can't remember, or keep all of the possible scenarious straight.

Which means my beanie is starting to fail, because I'm actually burning brain cells thinking about this!

Maggarita

Okay, the baby swap is making my head spin. Even if Sophia is Eva and Berns and Ruth is Gabis and Berns and there was some shell game with the babies at birth, why would that make Sophia not the heir? Unless Ruth is older. But Sophia is still named in the will and could very well be Berns, even if not Gabi's. Ow!

Love the camera man in the oven. Thank you!

And thanks for the link to Sew Right, that is really cool. I too am a seamstress and think it is so sad that this is not taught in school anymore. When I was a Girl Scout leader I tought all of my girls basic sewing skills.

Ok. You guys are making my head spin! Plus I'm still stuck on the whole adopt 3 babies thing. I don't think we ever resolved that deal. They act as if they all adopted the babies. Sophia acts more like their mom than Jimena.

My mom taught me to sew but my daughter really is not interested.

Cheryl, thanks for a great recap. Molly, you are so right....even if Slofia is Eva and Bern's (eeewww) daughter she would remain the heir. The lawyer is as loony as the rest of Mexiloon. Those party gals don't waste any time...they were hanging on the bros after 5 seconds. G in CA

Connie, don't forget the ever-popular adopt-a-nun program (or is it "adopt a kid, get a nun for free").
I give up, was there like some big gum-ball type baby dispenser back there in Cd Serdan all those years ago?
"Creemelo", who will be working Friday but not very hard

Oh yeah, I forgot about the Nuns. That is just weird and has no bearing on the story. Is it like when you buy the cereal you get the prize for free?! I can see it now----Adopt a baby and get a Nun thrown in at no extra charge! Or maybe a "3-for-Nun" promotion! (Ha!)

And why does Sarita have to give up her bedroom to the babies and go sleep with Jimena and Sophia gets her room to herself?

Jemena can't parent those babies, not with those earrings on. They would be ripped out so fast!

I would leave the babies with the boys, at least they don't need a warren of nuns (what would they be?) helping out. They take care of the kids themselves, even if they are not so great about it. They care enough to do it themselves.

How about a gaggle of Nuns? (I just like the word.)

I thought of that but it made them sound gossipy, which is very un-nunly. And you can't say murder, although the black habit made me think crows. A group of penguins is a rookerie...

Flock?

Thanks for all the responses. I love to hear from viewers even when they are totally twisted with scorn and this was at least a break from murder and mayhem.

And I would give a special thanks to Momma Melinama for stopping by, that is always so special for us recappers. I especially appreciate it since I know you are repulsed by this show just now. It is really hard to endure certain things but to put my self in a proper mood to avoid a hateful tone, I try to take the episode at face value and render as accurate a picture of the gestalt of the play. I still find it an opportunity to improve my Spanish. AND, I still love looking at the beautiful people male and female that populate this wild world. Yáñez still does it for me even when he is being an idiot. The babies, horses, Pablito, the nuns all add to the soft side and the play actually has some spectacular villains in Gabi and Feo.

I hope you all have a happy and peaceful Thanksgiving Day. And no, I don't have to work but there are flocks of Sandhill Cranes passing through down by the Rio Grande just now and I need to photograph them every chance I get.

Here is my favorite although I would not use it to describe Nuns---a Pace, Herd or Drove of ASSes. :) How about Colony, Army, Swarm or Shrewedness?

I've heard "gaggle" used as in a "gaggle of geese"...not very kind to nuns....and a "gaggle of tourists"....again, there seems to be a slight perjorative ring to the term. But I could just be imagining it.

I've known some wonderful nuns but the first nun I met, my piano teacher, was terrifying.

How about Bevy (of doe) or Dole (of doves)?

For the nuns, I would probably go with "squad" or "entourage."

If they were mean like three particular nuns from my childhood (Srs. Irene, Grace, and Lillian), I'd go with "gang" or "mob." But these three seem pretty nice. :-)

We could just call them The Squad for short.

Exactly why does Crabby think she can just announce that she will not give up control of the hacienda. HELLO...Earth to Crabby. There's a will that states that Sofia is sole owner of the hacienda. Why do people even listen to this witch ??? Basta. As for the nuns....we say ''a coven of witches'' so ''coven'' doesn't seem to fit nuns. I would just go with ''a bunch of nuns'' or''a few nuns.'' I'm anxious to finally get a look at the infamous Ricky Uribe. But why would Raq tell Ferd that Sofia has no rights to the hacienda ??? This novela has been stretched waaayyyy to far. Let's wrap this puppy up and get on to Manana Es Para Siempre and Fernando.

Susanlynn, hear! hear! I'm suffering severe Colunga withdrawal. I want FELS to be over cuanto antes (right now).

Another illogical thing is that Juan's memory loss is not at all predictable. When he first returned from the jungle, he couldn't remember anything. Then he remembered Sofía. He has the memories of his parents' shooting just as he did before Feo shot him. But he can't remember the kidnapping, of course, because the novela would be over if he knew about Feo. Sheesh!

*** OT *** OT *** OT
Thank you, everyone, for the nice compliments.

Cheryl - Your Sew Right school is .... awesome! And I see y'all teach slipcovers. Now there is a dying art, along with sewing in general. Drapery makers are a dime-a-dozen around here but re-upholstery and esp. slipcovers are harder to find. I took a slipcover class ages ago and am glad I know how to do it. Singer Sewing books are the best for drapes.

Cree - the twinkly things are the Hot-Fix crystals. I used the Swarovski brand---and was lucky to find a perfect color match. They're really quite easy to use.
http://www.suessparklers.com/ has what they call "applique" designs you just buy and iron on.
I created my own applique, based on the ones they sell, bought the crystals and transfer paper from them, etc. Call me a happy customer.

doris

A "swarm" of nuns scare me. A "mob" for the Mafia nuns. I really like entourage, makes them sound very hip. I imagine them with Ray Bans on! The Squad is good too. Then the can be the God Squad.

Susanlynn: the will as I understood it gives control of the hacienda to Sofia IF she has a baby. Or some such malarky. So, it really is a legal gray area if there's any question about one or any of those babies being hers.
Molly: I like the God Squad but it sounds alot like the ModSquad...remember the '70's?
Doris: you are awesomely creative! If we ever write a book based on this blog, you can design the cover encrusted with hot-fix crystals in red white and green.
"Creemelo"

Great recap, that I'm finally getting around to reading. Oh, and Susanlynn Warren is a big sweet guy like Gabriela is a sweet, cookie baking, nurturing grandma.
