Cuidado: Friday 12/26/08 "Happy Boxing Day"

Dear Gentle Readers-- Sorry to throw this out there extremely last minute, but due to ice storms, subsequent power outages, and other events beyond my control, I won't be able to recap this episode. So, once again, I appeal to you to please feel free to give a synopsis in the comment section if you are able. Thanks in advance and here's to hoping the crazy midwest weather will settle down once we get into the new year. Peace to all in the New Year and always!!

Wow, Cathy! I can’t imagine having power outages when it’s icing outside. Here in L.A. we’ve had a lot of outages due to rain and wind, but it only got down to the 40s overnight, so we can’t whine (though we do!).

Lessee – as I recall, the show was mainly about Mari getting deathly ill as her labor starts and Leo and everyone worried whether she’ll make it. There’s a big rainstorm, and though he tries to get her through in a car, the rivers are swollen and trees are down and they have to turn back. He tries to ride a horse to the hospital to get medicines. She faints, but comes to and is scared she and the baby will die. Cande prays and weeps. He gives her a pill and tries to cheer her on.

Viv is about to pack up and leave castle San Roman, but first she goes out on an errand and it turns out she was having a pregnancy test. Sure enough, it’s positive and Ed, who runs to the office and returns in record time, confirms that the test is on the up-and-up. Furious JM says she can stay in the house, but she mustn’t think there will ever be a relationship between them ever again.

Elsa gets the inebriated Nelson off a park bench and takes him home to his very messy apartment, where he shivers and then falls asleep. She goes back to her parents’ house and tells her father that she is going back to Nelson for now. She returns to Nelson and tries to get some chicken soup into him.

Blanca brings Viv tea, which is amazing considering that Viv almost strangled her. In the avances, Viv says Blanca reminds her of someone and it looks like she might have figured out who.

HELP! It looks like Thursday, my recap night, is going to be a double-header, starting at 9:00 and ending at 11:00. Since I tape the show then recap it (re-winding a LOT), and since it takes me from 9 pm til 2 am to get it done, there’s no way I can finish up a 2-hr show starting at 11 pm.

Also, since I’m on the west coast, even if I tried to finish up the next morning, it would be waaay late for people in other time zones..

Can somebody who is way better with Spanish recap the second hour of the show? I can do the first hour…

Cathy: Sorry to hear about your weather situation. I'm originally from the Northeast, so I know what really bad winter weather can do. But, I've spent most of my adult life in the deep south. Not to make you jealous, but it's about 70 degrees, clear and sunny.

Maggie: Thanks for the mini recap. I think you just about covered it. Also, I've recapped one time and will be glad to give it another try. Do you want the first hour or the second?

Maggie: I just thought of something, I'm in the Central time zone - so maybe I should do the first hour? Does that make sense?

I am sorry to hear about your misfortunes, Cathy. Good Luck in the future.

I didn't watch this episode, so I went to Youtube to see it. I was interested in what was going on especially now that Juan Miguel knows the truth about Vivana.

I have some questions, so I hope someone can answer them for me.

Why was Juan Miguel asking about Marichuy and if she is pregnant? Did someone say something to him about it? I am a little confusing about it.

Why is Vivana still going after Bianca? First, the other night she was choking her. I thought Vivana was taking her angry out on Bianca. I felt for Bianca. Vivana keeps picking on her.

Is Vivana really pregnant? Maggie,
you mention that she took a pregnancy test, where? Was it at a doctor's office? You said that Eduardo confirms it. If Vivana is pregnant, the baby is not Juan Miguel's. Juan Miguel never slept together. I don't believe Vivana when that one time she and Juan Miguel were drunk when she claim that they had sex together. If Vivana is really pregnant, the baby belongs to Bernie, the Jamaican, that she had an affair with. They had lots of sex together. If the baby is born, it will really show that the baby is not Juan Miguel's.

We will see what developments with Vivana and her pregnancy and baby for future episodes. The show is getting interesting.

Genevieve

Genevieve, I was also confused about who Vivian's baby's father could be or if she is really pregnant. It couldn't be Bernie's because at least 9 months have already passed and she is not even showing. Maybe she paid someone for their lab results. I don't think she had sex with JM, as drunk as he was that night.

I watched part of this, but I too was hoping for elucidation from everyone else. Is Viviana really pregnant? It can't be cabana boy or Spain boy, because that was too many months ago. Did she sleep with JM and I missed it?

The other thing I remember from Friday is that Padre Anselmo refused to help Patricio find Marichuy. He says that unless he is searching for Maria de Jesus out of love, he is not ready to find her.

Cathy, I hope the weather is better where you are soon.

Thanks for the summary Maggie. And thanks Pasofino for volunteering.

Thanks to you NinaK as well as I thought that is what Padre A was saying to the judge but wasn't sure.

I guess most of us are confused about Viv's pregnancy so hopefully we'll get some illumination soon.

Maggie et al,

I wouldn't worry too much about recapping on Thursday night. Those 2 hours are almost certainly repeats. At least, when they have done a "Gran Noche" with past shows on holidays, it has been repeats.

Thanks for the mini recap.

I just got back from being out all day. It's about 5:30 here in L.A. which means some of your are already in front of your sets enjoying the new episode.

Pasofino - thank you SO MUCH!! We'll arrange schedules tomorrow in the comments.

Oh, and I think the pregnancy test was done at Ed's so it's supposed to be legit..

Well, I have a new appreciation for what you recappers go through to do a recap and it makes me appreciate you even more. I would step up, but my Spanish is not good enough to understand anything that MC says. I can usually figure out what is going on, but miss a lot of the dialogue, so thank you to you recappers.

I also agree that Viv's baby could not be from one of her pre-return home trysts. As you recall, when she returned, MC was still there and was not yet showing with her pregnancy. She has now gone through an entire pregnancy and is giving birth, so if Viv was pregnant when she returned, she should be near giving birth also. However, the writers of these soaps don't always think that we viewers are paying as much attention to the chronology of things, so wouldn't it be a delightful twist is Viv's baby did turn out to be the little brown baby of Bernie, the man she killed. I am still waiting for JM to make good on his promise to track down people who knew Viv when she was on the lam. Maybe he will find out that she is wanted for murder. I think that will be his ultimate out from his marriage to Viv - when she goes to prison for murder.

I hope this is the beginning of much more interesting episodes for this show. It had become a real yawn fest.

Marti

I think you guys pretty much got it; there wasn't a lot happening in this episode.

A lot of the time was spent on repetetive stuff with Mari in labor, but the upshot is that Leopardo will be doing the delivery after all.

So he will be facing his demons about what happened before when he was "responsible for two deaths". I'm sure he will triumph and get his doctor mojo back and at the same time bond even more with Marichuy by bringing her through this. I also that the baby stealers will be foiled!

I also don't see how Viviana could be pregnant. It' seemed pretty clear at the time that she had tricked JM into bed and that nothing really happened.

I'm noticing that they have been phasing into some cheesy looking sets for the interior of the Castle San Roman, I wonder if they aren't able to shoot in there anymore? Maybe it was getting expensive to do all that on-location shooting.

Hello to all! Sorry I’ve been MIA, but I was out of town and then had to catch up (I like to watch before the recaps). Feel free to skip ahead if the comments get too long.

Cathy, thanks for the recaps and the tips from Baby 123! I will think of you as I start picking my nursery essentials! Also thanks to Jody and Gloria for the other awesome recaps I missed.

I think most of Friday has been addressed, just wanted to add the following:
Pat tells Ceci the good Padre refuses to tell him where Mari is. She asks if he begged and he says no way! I demanded and threatened (what a prince!). He says PA knows they can’t sue him since they have no proof that Mari’s their kid. Ceci suggests registering her as such. He points out that it took so long with Stef they were able to halt the process. She says they won’t need to halt it this time. He mentions they’ll need two witnesses and she says the PA can be one. He then says he won’t do it without Mari’s consent and that she’ll probably just hate them more when she finds out it’s them, so give it up.

JM tells Blanca Viv’s staying and what a horrible fate expects the poor child. He notes that Mayita has suffered much with his and Viv’s fighting and it will be worse for the baby. He had hoped for a miracle with Mari, but was mistaken. He said if it’s God’s will that this child be born, he will accept it. Ominous music plays and we get a close up of Blanca’s face. Methinks she will try to give him a hand with that miracle.

Now, if anyone wants to venture a guess: What’s with flip/floppy grandma? One minute she tells Mayita Blanca’s issues won’t affect her, and then she’s telling her not to go near Blanca’s room. Guess Mayita’s only safe with Blanca in open public spaces!

As for Vicente, the boy needs therapy (physical and mental) and a good kick in the pants. Years ago I worked for an investment banker who had prosthetic legs. He walked on crutches, flew to business meetings, and even drove (they make special cars that put the pedal controls within hand’s reach). Vicente seems to think that one or two attempts to get in and out of his wheelchair automatically means he should give up. Off course it will be hard, but he can learn to get around even if he’s never able to walk normally (I seem to recall the one doctor saying he never would, so he’s probably stuck with crutches and/or a wheelchair – not that we’ve never had continuity broken invalidating things or statements from past episodes, so he may walk after all). And yes, he can still paint, that has nothing to do with his legs. I’m guessing that part is due to his depression killing his inspiration, but that’s why the boy needs the mental therapy to get out of his funk! I suppose it’s easy for me to say ‘cause both my legs are healthy, and there are indeed people who don’t have the mindset to overcome adversity. I hope that he eventually gets over this as he was such a great character, but now he’s been reduced to a whiny baby. Time will tell...

The pregnancy test was definitely done at Ed’s lab of choice and he followed up with some folks there that he trusted, so she’s definitely pregnant. My guess is that Viv found herself a sperm donor, maybe at the bar when she was waiting for JM. I also don’t think she managed to get any love from JM, and I agree it’s waaaay to late for it to be cabana boy or even married Spanish guy.

Genevieve – In the new epi, JM tells PA about Viv’s baby and that he’d do anything for a child of his. PA asks if he’d do the same for a baby he had with Mari. JM said that would be impossible unless she were already pregnant when they split up. Then he remembered that Mari had told Mayita she would bring her a little sibling and asked PA if that was the case. PA backtracked and said she wasn’t pregnant, but had probably said that to make Mayita feel better.

Randy Sea – I always figured the interiors were shot on a soundstage and it was only the exteriors that were shot on location. Not sure how often it’s done, but sometimes the mansions they shoot belong to producers. Many years ago my cousin went on his honeymoon to Acapulco and joked that he took flowers to the grave of a dead character when they visited the mansion where that particular TN was shot. It belonged to the producer; I think the producer was the late Ernesto Alonso.

I've gotta say, I just love Leopardo, Cosme, and Nacho right now. I guess I'm a sucker for men protecting women and children.

A little disappointed to see Elsa going back to Nelson so easily, but maybe he'll get his stuff together, which seem a lot more real-world unlikely, but I might be able to buy it for telenovela land.

Bit of a holdover from the last epsiode, but Patricio being taken down a peg by PAnselmo is rather satisfying.
