Fuego en la Sangre, 1/2/2009: Blood Ties--Shoes Keep Dropping Like Flies

Capítulo 167

In what is now once again Mama’s office at the Double E (Hacienda de las Elizondo y aún del Escandon) Ruthless Root has just been told by Gabi that because she is so much more like her and liked by her than is Sofia, Root gets the whole Elizondo enchilada when Gabi becomes worm food. (Yes, yes, Gabi also told her that Papa Bear and Gabi were lovers who should’ve gotten married and lived happily ever after with Root as their daughter but she conveniently skipped over the part that Root really IS their daughter.) Root is now Gabi’s sole heir.

At Trinkets R Us meanwhile, Augie is saying his good-bye’s to his granddaughters and Eva. He tells Eva that he hopes God rewards her for the great love she’s always shown towards his granddaughters. The old guy is heartbroken about Gabi (presumably by her not coming to his wedding). The girls tell him not to let Mama’s continued rejection wreck his big day, and they remind him that he’s got a new life full of love and happiness ahead with Santi now.

Back at the Double E, Root tells Gabi that she really liked Augie and by the way, he gave her a letter for Gabi. Root hands Gabi the letter from him telling her he still loves her despite her rejection of him, that he hopes God will pardon her for everything, and that he hopes she might see the error of her ways. “Eh! He shouldn’t have bothered. The best thing for me is that he married that old broad and got the heck out of my life!” Root asks why she hates her father so much. Gabi says (as she slurps down another brandy) because he was always a drunk and treated her mother badly, then also because he was forever against her and then helped turn her daughters against her. --But, she got even with him. For years she tortured him by making him and everyone else believe a big lie about him being the one who was driving and who killed her mother in the car accident years ago that left him paralyzed.

Root asks who was the one driving then and Gabi admits that she was, but she was driving because he was too drunk. So essentially he was to blame, and she told him and everybody else around that it was him. He was blackballed socially ever since. She admits that she has no compunction or regret for having condemned him to a wheelchair. Root seems uncomfortable (and just might not be quite as ruthless as her momma). She asks how Gabi could be so cruel to her own father. Gabi says Root should learn right now that nobody stops Gabi Elizondo and if they mess with her, sooner or later they pay for it. She and Root are just alike that way she adds. Gabi smiles cruelly then and says she’ll write back just to let him know it, too.

In town, mother superior informs Rigo and Eugenia that they can adopt a child from the orphanage and gives them a beautiful little boy about the same age as Sofia’s girls are. They of course give the virgencita her prayerful due.

In the office a bit later, Darth Rico is telling Gabi he’s upset and wants to know why the change in her attitude? First she runs the three of them off, and then she prevents them from leaving, and now she has named Root as her sole heir. “Just what are you up to?” He wants the truth and now. Gabi smiles smugly and tells him that Root really is his daughter. Rico is confused and angry because, he says, they just finished telling him otherwise. Gabi says to forget everything they told them before because she just found out herself. She smiles at him. “Root is our daughter. She is ours!” Ricardo Uribe is now properly wide-eyed impactado. He’s not sure if he understood her. “For once in your life, woman, could you be honest with me?” Gabi pours the two of them a brandy (dunno how many this makes for her OR why Gabi never ever seems to get the slightest bit tipsy from all those brandies) and she fills him in on the details.

Back at Trinkets, Rigo and Eugenia come in to show the three Elizondo sisters their new little boy and everybody oohs and ahhs.

We’re shunted back to the Double E office again. Gabi tells Darth that he always wanted a child. She was the only woman who could give him one. Talk turns to the “call of the blood”. He says he never could see Root as either Eva or Bernie’s and always felt there was some blood tie between them. Gabi admits to him that she never felt as if Sofia was ever her own, but the moment she met Root she sensed a special something. So, Gabi says, whether they like it or not, there is a tie that binds them together for life.

Upstairs Root meets with Feo in the bedroom and tells him that she is now Gabi’s sole heir. Feo gives her a huge hug and says they ought to probably get rid of Gabi as soon as possible. (Viewerville is left to wonder if Root realizes just how permanently and irreversibly he means.) Root says, well then he’s got to help her with Juan. Fernando says Juan’s become an obsession for her because Juan’s the first man to ever refuse her charms. Fer is quick to add that Juan is not the right man for her. (Do we need three guesses to figure out who he thinks is?) She denies Juan is an obsession and insists he’s just a means to get even with Sofia. They make-out.

Over at the Double R (Hacienda de los Robles-Reyes) after much persuasion from Tio V.O. for his rube nephews to give them some privacy, the specialist is FINALLY left alone with Oscar to examine him. He walks back out a bit later and tells the others that with therapy Oscar just might be able to walk again. Cheers all around.

Feo agrees to help Root with Juan provided that the two of them can come to an agreement that benefits them both.

Back across the way at the Double R, Juan and Sofia are again telling each other that they don’t need to know which little girl is theirs since they love all three the same. (Besides being ridiculous, this line is gettin' old!) Then Rigo and Eugenia come by so that Juan can get to see little namesake, Juan Diego.

A while later, Root walks down the big staircase and thinks back to Fernando’s telling her they ought to get rid of Gabi as soon as possible. Papa Bear appears at the foot of the stairs and greets her with a huge smile. They share a giant father-daughter hug.

Later, at Bungalow del Bruto, Darth is all smiles now that he knows he is definitely Root’s father. However, he’s not quite sure how great it is that Gabi also happens to be her mother. That means Gabi will be able to control him then and that makes him start to wonder who shot at him while he was riding earlier.

At the same time, said shooter, El Coyote, is hanging his hat in a dark hallway of a very nice house. He sits down next to a woman who appears to have been burned and blinded and that room is also dark. “How are you, Mother?” he asks her. (I just choked on my copa. Gasp! --OMG! El Coyote has a past!)

The whole Reyes clan meanwhile, including Esperanza and Caridad, is now visiting together and enjoying themselves in the warmth of the Double R’s kitchen. Rigo and Eugenia show off little Juan Diego. Hortensia and Quintina are elated. Afterwards, Sofia and Juan discuss their now being able to have a church wedding. They are also thrilled that that the specialist has said Oscar might be able to walk again.

Upstairs Jimena tells Oscar that she is very excited over what the doctor says, that if he makes a consistent effort he will probably be able to walk again. Oscar now apologizes to her for his rotten attitude before. Jimena says there’s no need to and that she loves him and only wants the best for him.

In contrast to all the excitement and laughter at the Reyes’s, Coyote’s mother sits in her darkened living room. She quietly tells him that she’s been fine. Coyote looks at her with tears in his eyes and fights the urge to touch the scars on her face. (Everybody take a deep breath now. And another...)

At the Double R, Juan and Sofia are all smiles and they run up to visit with Jimena and Oscar about the good news that the doctor gave them all earlier. (The director and editor are pretty much banging us over the head with this contrast thing, aren't they?) Oscar promises them to make the effort to successfully walk again. Sofia leaves for home. Oscar gives Juan the big hint to follow her so he and Jimena can kiss and make up. Downstairs, Franco and Sarita are now alone in the kitchen. Sarita tells Franco that she only came to see how Oscar was doing. Franco looks hurt and asks her why she doesn’t ask how he is or how he’s been suffering. He says he’s tired of asking to be forgiven and asks her how long till she’s going to forgive him. He tells her it’s been so obvious that he's loved her since the first time he saw her. He wants to know if she forgives him or not?

Meanwhile, Coyote’s mother asks him if Ricardo Uribe has really returned. Coyote says yes, he’s finally come back and so now it’s time to get even (ajustar cuentas). She reprimands him and says that he cannot. He must remember the man is his father. (Ruh-Roh! OMG x2! Viewerville is now both drop-jaw and wide-eyed impactado, not to mention this seems to be another interesting detail Gabi has conveniently left out.) El Coyote says he detests the man and will never accept him as his father because he’s to blame for what happened to her. His mother says no, Ricardo Uribe didn’t do anything to her. She was the one who fell in love with him and when he learned she was pregnant with E.C. he left her. She can’t complain about it and besides, she forgot and forgave years ago. Coyote says he hasn’t and he can’t because of the humiliation they went through all because of him, and especially because of Gabriela’s viciousness.

“You were left blind, mother. Why did she set fire to our house? She was crazy jealous and wanted to get even with you --but I’ve been waiting to get back at her all these years… for what she did to you.” She tells Coyote not to be bitter, because it all happened so many years ago. “It could be an eternity; those two will pay,” he insists. She says no, God wanted it that way. (I have just gone through my 3rd hankie. This is my first 4-hankie scene, ever!) Coyote swears they will pay for it. He says he’ll get Ricardo Uribe right where it hurts him most: his daughter will be his victim.

Said victim and half-sister, Root, meanwhile, is schmoozing Juan in the kitchen while he’s baking. Juan says he’s wise to her but she says that’s not why she’s there. She understands now that he’s not going to pay attention to her. Juan says that’s right, nobody and nothing will separate him from Sofia. Root says she just wants him and her to be friends. Juan asks how since she hates Sofia. She insists she’s not the nasty person they all think she is. He finally gives in as long as she keeps her distance. Root asks him for a favor afterwards (and gets to what she really wanted from him all along). Root fidgets and says she grew up in the hacienda and so she really would like to walk around through it again for old times’ sake. He gives in to her again, dumb trusting soul that he unfortunately is, and says fine, but only out of respect for Eva’s need to be close to her.

In Oscar’s room, Franco and Sarita tell Jimena and Oscar that they’re an item again. Jimena says that when Oscar can walk she wants them to get married in the church. Franco says he and Sarita will too.

Root has gone upstairs to root around in Pablito’s room for the little box but he walks in on her almost immediately.

Downstairs Juan kneads bread dough and thinks about making love to Sofia and finally getting married. Padre Tadeo walks into the kitchen and snaps Juan out of his mental flagrante delicto. Pad Tad says he’s got an urgent need to discuss something with him and that Augie had asked him to. It concerns the safety of his granddaughters.

Root tells Pablito that Juan gave her permission to walk around the place and they get chummy when she tells him it used to be her room. She charms him into telling her that he found something of hers, a little chest he keeps his secrets in. Just as he’s about to show her where he hides it Quintina shows up and chases Root out. Quintina warns Pablito that Root might be Eva’s daughter, but she’s not to be trusted.

That night Root returns to the Double E and goes straight to Sofia’s room to harass her about having made up with Juan. Sofia says she doesn’t believe her and kicks her out of her bedroom. Root taunts on her way out and says that many relationships start as friendships. “Today we’re friends, but who knows what tomorrow will bring, right?” Sofia shuts the door on her and frowns good riddance, then tells herself that if Root thinks she’s going to make her doubt Juan she’s mistaken. She knows Juan loves her and she will never, never doubt him. (We know, though Sofia still doesn’t, you never say “never” in Mexi-doom.)

At Bungalow del Bruto, Rico is reading Raqui the riot act about her switching the two newborn baby girls. He informs her that he now knows that Root is his and Gabi’s. Raqui sniffs and says if it bothers him that much despite his cheating on her, then she’ll leave. Darth grabs her by the arm and says Raqui’s not leaving there till he says; and she won’t be leaving because he’s got a nice little surprise cooked up for her. “You’ll find out in good time what it is, too, all in good time!” Raqui swallows big-time.

Sofia is saying good night to Eva, meanwhile, in the main hall of the Double E and she thanks her for taking such good care of the little girls. Fernando saunters inside. He sneers at the way the two are together so much and are always hugging. “Might as well be mother and daughter.” Eva emphasizes again that she would give her life for Sofia. (Not a good sign, here, Eva. This is the third time you’ve said this about somebody in the past few days.) Sofia says they do share a mother-daughter affection. Feo calls them a couple of prissies. Sofia tells Feo not to bother trying to harass them about it and adds that he doesn’t know how to love. She doubts that he has ever loved anyone in his life, or that anyone has ever loved him. He shoots back that Gabi loves him and he loves her. Sofia says yes, so much that he’s fooling around with Root. Feo stops chewing his cheroot in mid-chew. He’s impactado 'cuz Eva apparently saw them and just admitted she told Sofia.

Sofia threatens Fer then that she’ll tell Mama if he tries anything with Root again. Feo threatens back that he’ll have Gabi run Sofia off the place if she keeps talking to him in that tone. Sofia tells him to save it; she is not going to be there much longer anyway because she’s moving out as soon as she marries Juan. Fer sneers his way up the stairs as Sofia sees Eva out the door.

Sofia is about to go upstairs to bed when Darth enters the main hall. She tells him to get out of her house, but he says it’s not her house, it’s Gabi’s. She replies defiantly that it’s Bernardo Elizondo’s house, as in “her father’s,” and so she does not want to see him there again. He snaps back that whether she wants to or not she will see him, and continually. Sofia stares him down. “If I told you what I know about you, you’d be out like a shot.” He tells her to stop with the innuendos. “So, let’s see. What do you know, you foolish little girl? What?” Root eavesdrops from the balcony as Sofia takes a deep breath and lets Darth have it right between the eyes: “--that you… (Sofia! Spit. it. out!) That you killed the Reyes’s parents!”
Now it’s Rico’s turn to swallow big-time.

Another super recap; thanks, Jardinera. Viewerville (at least the colony in my house) was indeed drop-jaw and wide-eyed impactado when the Coyote-mama and evil Ricardo relationship was revealed. Not to mention Gabi burning down the house. Love seeing Coyote in this avenging angel role.
La Paloma

"Besides being ridiculous, this line is getting old". You nailed it, Jardinera, and I imagine you could say that about 90% of the dialogue in this groaner.

Still, while I only got to watch the first half, lots of excitement in this Friday night episode. It was my first look at Coyote's mom (nightmarish) and wondered if it was the actress who played the incestuous aunt in Amar Sin Limites.

And then to find out who Coyote's papa was!...and who set the fire that maimed dear old mater! My goodness. Lots of excitement. Plus the beginnings of a redemptive character change in our sexy little Ruth. Can't complain about being bored. In fact it was a real relief from the utter stupidity of the preceding Cuidado episode Friday. Who'd have thought!

Love your "viewerville"...for some reason it always makes me think of Dr. Seuss and the Cat in the Hat.

Can someone explain why fuego is not on on eves and holidays, yet others are. The Program that comes before Fuego, was on Thursday night during our time slot? Other holidays I have noticed other soaps on as well.

food for thought. Gabi so easily told slophia that ricardo killed juan's parents. Maybe it is not Ricardo that did it, but he stole the belt from the person that did? Seems to me that gabi would not be so happy that he and she are the parents of root and tells him, knowing that someone is going to tell him she named him as the murederer and which will make him mighty mad, whether he is or isn't???

Thanks very much Jardinera for the recap. I, too, was drop-jaw impactada when Mama Coyote said that Ricardo was the El Coyote's Dad.
In fact I kept repeating "oh no, oh no" so loudly that my ancient dog came toddling over to see what was wrong, and I missed the bit of dialogue about Gabi starting the fire that maimed Mrs. Mama Coyote.
I've often wondered the same thing as Anon 3:51--maybe 9:00 PM is the prime slot for showing holiday extravaganzas?
"Creemelo"

" I just choked on my copa. Gasp...Omg. El Coyote has a past." LOL. Thanks for all the other laughs too, Jardinera. I still marvel at how El Coyote is so squeaky clean...just like Mr. Clean.

I was so grateful Juan Diego wasn't balling his head off like the other babies. Why don't Rigo and Eugenia rate a nun/nanny. Or maybe it really is rent a nun. GinCA

Jardinera: Thanks again. This was a show stopper. If what we think happened in this episode really happened, Gabi is right up there with the worst of the worst I don't think Coyote's mom's words of forgiveness had any effect on him. Yes, she looked like the woman from Amar to me, too.

Now it's just a matter of time before she's gets her just desserts.

Thanks, Jardinera~~~I fell asleep at the very beginning [I was up at 4.30 to take Hub for surgery for a herniated disk], so I was glad to have your excellent recap to fill me in on all the revelations provided in this episode. Fuego would have probably been a decent show if they hadn't stretched it out so much . [Why did they do that ?]

There's a quote from the sidebar that seems very applicable for this novela : '''Ojala que se lo coman los coyotes.'' Rick is Coyote's daddy....I did not see that one coming. I guess that back in the day, Rick was the Ferd of his generation with the ladies.

Terrific recap of a shocking episode. But now what do I do? I really like Root. I'm rooting for Root. But I like Coyote, and he says to get back at Ricardo, his first victim will be Root. Well, at least the Reyes brothers and Elizondo sisters have no more problems, right? Silly me, I keep forgetting that every time they're going to happy para siempre, the next day something new goes wrong!

I also was very impressed by the excellent behavior of Rigo and Eugenia's new kid. The girls can't be left alone with anyone except the nuns (mothers?) without shrieking their heads off. But that little boy is a trouper. Maybe he'll have a career like the kid who played Adela's child in Amor Real. He was acting his head off at around age 2, and since has been in many novelas, including Pasión.

So, trying to burn up Sofía is not Gabi's first arson crime. That Coyote is really good at engaños the way he's been sucking up to the woman who burned and blinded his mamá. Never saw that one coming. I thought the venganza would have something to do with El Jefe.

Wooiee! What a major downer watching those scenes between Coyote and his mother over and over was! Didn't help for me to stop to watch "Anna Karennina" before finishing the rewrites, either..... I've watched a lot of villanas over the past 5 years but I don't remember a more sociopathic/psychopathic (wonder if you can be both at the same time) mother figure than Gabriela. Somebody needs to drop a hint to El Coyote about her and locked doors in rooms with soundproof windows......

Correction: bawling not balling. I blame it on FELS as usual. GinCA

Maybe it is El Jefe putting coyote up to this. Coyote would not be in the picture if it wern't for el jefe behind the scenes, telling him what to do. But what does El Jefe have to do with it UNLESS, he is coyote's stepfather, or he was in love with coyote's mom and is looking for revenge. Ret

Jardinera - I have never thanked the recappers for the magnificant job you all do. It is so awesome th work you put into the recaps, the humor, the insight everything. Thank you.

This time I got to give kudo's to the writers, cuz I didn't see Rico having a second kid either, let alone it being Coyote, and I didn't consider Gabi for trying to burn his mother alive out of a jealous rage.
==========
That little Juan Diego child was an angel during all of that ruckus on stage. I don't usually pay attention to the little actors, but I couldn't stop thinking whenever he was on camera last night what a gorgeous child he is.
=====
Susanlynn: hope your hubby's surgery goes well. Back pain like that is some of the worst.

El jefe is juan's uncle so there is reason for him to want revenge on the murderers of his brother and his wife. Maybe el jefe was married to coyotes mom and wants revenge for ricardo having an affair with her???? Ret

Ret: Lots of good questions. You've got me when it comes to any connection between Coyote's mom and El Jefe, or if Coyote's revenge is totally his own and has nothing to do with El Jefe's need for revenge against Rico. I don't think El Jefe was married to her but I don't know if he ever divorced Pedro's mom along the way, either, after he lost track of them.

I'm still stunned about Gabriela trying to burn down Coyote's mom's house. Evidently, the bakery fire wasn't her first arson.

My best guess as to why they pre-empted us four times in the last two weeks is that they are trying to shift Fuego's end date so that it ends on a day that's convenient for Univision.

Figures they'd pre-empt the show now that it's getting really interesting!

hmmmm...If Jefe was Coyote's stepfather...Pedro and Coyote are stepbrothers. That would bew nice. Then, Coyote would have been watching out for his stepbro's cousins all this time. I like novelas that have twists and turns...keeps things interesting. This Sleeping Beauty novela seems to have finally awoken. P.S. Jardinera~Thanks for the good thoughts. We arrived at the doctor's office at 6.45 a.m. and left about 10.45 a.m. Hub seems to be doing well. The pain in his leg from the pinched nerve is gone. Now he must heal.

Julie: IMHO Uni's playing games with dates for sure, just like always. (I swear I'm going to go crazy if they drag this thing out beyond mid Feb.) But, also, considering the numbers I saw, I bet they needed to boost Tontas and it certainly wouldn't hurt to pump Cuidado up either. Can't say I'd be too happy if I were a Tontas sponsor.

Tontas is 5-8 pts behind FELS and Cuidado is behind by 3pts through 12/22. FELS viewership rose by a million the week of the 29th. (What better reason to torture us by stretching FELS dates out as far as they can!)

Thanks for the great recap Jardinera.

For those who were wondering, the Tontas episode was just a big recap to catch people up who may have not been watching due to the holidays. I was surprised to look up and see it on Thursday, but there was no new stuff.

Can't help wondering why Abuelo isn't singing like a canary about what Feo did. He could have him arrested and save everyone alot of grief.

Jardinera - thank you for the excellent, snarky recap. I knew which episodes to FFWD>>> through and which to watch.

susanlynn said...If Jefe was Coyote's stepfather...Pedro and Coyote are stepbrothers.....Then, Coyote would have been watching out for his stepbro's cousins all this time.
When we were first introduced to Coyote, wasn't he watching Pedro's back? It's late and my brain is floating in red jello..... I'm claiming the FELS Effect. Ack.

doris

Wow! Coyote's father is Ricardo Uribe and His half sister is Ruth. Amazing. So now the True Elizondo children are Sarita and Jimena. Sofia and Ruth are half sisters, Rosario honorary sister and Coyote half brother. Dysdunctional family at its best. Then again it is more reflective of TODAY'S family makeup. Lol.

Great recap Jardinera. I always enjopying reading your recap. :)

Ibarramedia

Ibarramedia: These crazy extended family trees in these novelas, which you're right are always so dysfunctional, my husband calls "family jungle vines" cuz they're so curled back in on each other. I'd say this group definitely qualifies.

So now the True Elizondo children are Sarita and Jimena. Sofia and Ruth are half sisters, Rosario honorary sister and Coyote half brother.

----------------

Sofia and Ruth are not sisters.

Sofia's parents are Bernardo & Eva. Her half sisters are Sarita & Jimena (thru Bernardo).

Sarita & Jimena's parents are Gabi & Bernardo. Their half sister is Ruth (thru Gabi).

Ruth's parents are Gabi & Ricardo. Her half brother is Coyote (thru Ricardo).

Coyote's parents are Ricardo & Mrs. Coyote.

Ruth and Sofia are not related.

I want to know Fernando's parents are and what happened to them.

There may not be any connection to El Jefe and Coyote beyond Coyote working for Jefe. After all, Coyote was busting down Fernando long before Pedro came on the scene.

We all should have got our spidey scenes tingling when Gabi crowed "I'm the only woman who's given you a child." Gabi and Ricardo probably think Mrs. Coyote is dead from the fire or if she survived that the baby didn't.

I forgot to add, Sofia is an Elizondo too thru Bernardo. And the way Gabi gets around, Jimena and Sarita may not be Bernardo's kids, which is why he left the whole shaboodle to Sofia.

Anon. 1:08: Thanks for writing out all the relationships and catching that about Root and Sofia. My eyes have started to glaze over with all of these characters. We need flow charts just to keep 'em all straight. -- I am really curious to know the real reason Darth Rico left Coyote's mother if he wanted a child so badly. I wonder if Gabi lied to him about her/it/that.

BTW, thanks guys. Glad to know it was worth the read.

Great comments and recap. If I remember correctly, didn't Fernando want to get revenge on Ricardo? If I'm right, does anyone remember why?
Liena, FL

Welcome, Liena,FL: You're right about Fernando wanting revenge on Darth Rico and I hope they don't just let that thread dangle. Rico helped to destroy Fernando's formerly well-to-do family somehow. That's also when he went to Bernardo's hacienda as a hired hand and then got the twisted idea to marry Sofia after he'd raped her and purposely wrecked her reputation and left her vulnerable to her mother's selfish, short-sighted demands for Sofia to marry him because she would forever be considered "damaged goods."
--Darn! What a great idea for a telenovela! How could they have mucked it up so badly?

Jardinera, it only sounds like a good idea for a TN because of your talented and creative desciption. The FELS writers could have mucked up "Gone With the Wind."
"Creemelo"

Creemelo: I wonder if that dog thinks this novela is a "woofer" too but has more sense than the rest of us to watch. He just sleeps through it every night and then snorts at us because we think we're the smart ones.

Hombre: Take heart when it comes to Root since JudyB I think is correct. There has always got to be at least one evil character that finds true redemption and I think it's going to be her. She saved Augie from choking to death in defiance of Feo and seems shocked by Gabi's confession/attitude towards her own father. She's chalking up points, I'd say.

Awww...why can't Coyote find redemption too? His manners are flawless. Surely it wouldn't hurt to let two former baddies survive.
"Creemelo"

"I am really curious to know the real reason Darth Rico left Coyote's mother if he wanted a child so badly."

Me, too! I'm sure it will be revealed. Maybe he was already married to Raqi, had a daughter (Root) and he didn't want another kid, esp. out of wedlock? Coyote's mom's house looks nice, so it may not have been a "class" thing, which is one of the big reasons these women get tossed.

Somebody remind me to never ever watch another Mejía circo. Please. Aaaaaack. They are fun, though, with fellow foristas to snark with. ;-)

doris

Doris and Jardi: maybe Ricardo didn't leave Coyote's mom, and that's why Gabi turned to arson to get rid of her rival, who was then burnt to an unattractive cinder.
"Cree"

great recap nut disappointed we weren't seen Sarita forgiving Franco just Franco's pleas and then switch to Oscar & Jimena's room where they announce they're reconciled. i think they give Franco & Sarita the short end of the screen time romance all the time. I think because their chemistry is so much better then the main couple Sofia & juan's chemistry (or lack therof). Don't you think? Thanks again for the grat recap!!

oops sorry for all my typos in the previous post, I was trying to type while simultaneously cooking (never a good idea). Again, great recap

Doris: "Somebody remind me to never ever watch another Mejía circo."

Don't worry, Doris - I'll remind because the next time I see his name on a new telenovela I will be the first (or one of the first) to say "nooooOOOOOOoooo!!! don't you remember Fuego??"

I'm these last weeks are going to be good (so it appears). It doesn't make up for that awful amnesia storyline, but I'll feel a little less ripped off I get to watch a decent ending.

Julie - do you think we could formulate some sort of vaccination, to protect us against contracting the desire to watch any more Mejía circos? Sort of like a cootie-shot?

doris

OT - Did any of you see the promo for "Pobre Millionaria," during FELS on Friday, that will start Jan 13th? I love Gianella Neyra and may give this one a try. I know it's a refrito. It's also daytime 'novela, so it gives me concern, but I enjoyed the old 'Limavelas' that Looneyvision used to show at midday.

Hope it's not a dud. I'll be giving it a try because of GN and JA.

doris

Creemelo: I sort of like your theory. I sort of think she lied to Ricardo to get him away from Coyote's mom and maybe he never knew she was pregnant, but Gabi tells her this big lie to torture her and then tries to burn her alive like Sofia. Either way, Gabi botched the arson and attempted murder both times and it's going to eventually bite her in the backside.
========
Doris: I've decided I can only take Mejia's circo's in very small doses. Fieras was at least short and crazy fun, so was La Madrastra. La Esposa Virgen was painfully slow and dull, but at least it was only 4 months long. This train jumped its tracks 2 months ago. The last time it was fun to watch was back when they had Niurka making mischief and the Tweedles scheming to get out of their engagements. Anything longer than 4 months that's not campy and I'll need stock bottles of antidepressants just to get through it!

Anon. 6:03pm -- Juan and Sofia don't do a thing for me on screen together in this. Oscar and Jimena are great IMO, but yeah, Franco and Sarita can be great but their scenes have been butchered --especially Friday's and now their storyline is like an after thought.

La Paloma/GinCA/Pasofino: I really like seeing Coyote as an avenging angel, too and I hope he doesn't get his angel wings clipped, i.e., is killed immediately after finding redemption. I think he might be another one who is redeemed.

Thank you for filling me in on Fernando's hatred of Ricardo. Can't wait till Coyote's background is revealed. This novella is getting better.

Doris, you can create your own inoculation at home. Just follow these steps:

1. Find a recap for a particularly bad episode. One of the ones that was so depressingly dull and stupid that few of us could even get up the gumption to complain about how incomprehensible the storyline had become. For me, that would be during that stretch where Juan lost his memory. I think the highlight of that period for me was when Gabi fell into the freshly-dug well that had green grass growing at the bottom of it.

2. Bookmark that recap.

3. (optional) Find the episode on YouTube and bookmark that too. It may or may not still be there later when you need it.

That's it. Any time you want a deterrent, just look at the recap or episode again and you'll remember why you didn't want to see another Mejia project.

I would love to see Coyote redeemed, but he seems hell bent on killing his father. I don't know if this is allowed in the (probably unofficial) telenovela code of ethics.

Jimena and Oscar have been the only couple I've enjoyed watching. I think Juan and Sofia have the best chemistry, but they're so simpery that I get tired of them quickly. I agree that Sarita/Franco fans are getting robbed. They're not my favorite to watch, but it's ridiculous to leave us with a mere "okay, they're back together now." (Maybe they're trying not to anger fans who are still upset that Rosario got killed off!)

Doris, don't be put off by Pobre Millionaria getting scheduled for daytime. As far as I can tell, scheduling is based on anticipated popularity (more money for advertising) rather than "quality" (in whatever terms you define it).

Just because Univision thinks Pobre won't have broad appeal doesn't mean that it won't be very satisfying to some group of people. For example, Querida Enemiga didn't get great ratings (I don't think?), but there were some of us who were really delighted with it.

I though the ad for Pobre looked promising, anyway.

Julie, Querida Enemiga was named third best novela by TV y Novelas magazine, after Pasión and Victoria. I didn't watch it after the first week, but apparently it was good.

Doris/Julie: making my bookmarks and checkin' 'em twice!

As for daytime, if it looks good, it probably is. Palabra de Mujer was nighttime fare in Canada but daytime in the U.S., and yet it was supposed to be a really decent novela and a nice surprise according to some at TN-W.

Novelera: glad to hear that about QE. I generally stop watching if I don't like it the first night, and there have been more than a few like that for me.

OK, I'm confused. Sofia drops the bomb to Richardo about she knows he murdered the Reyes. Didn't she say the same thing to him last time she confronted him. I think it was before the holidays.

"Me, too! I'm sure it will be revealed. Maybe he was already married to Raqi, had a daughter (Root) and he didn't want another kid, esp. out of wedlock?"

Ricardo probably didn't know because he seems like the type who would LOVE having a son, even though he loves his "princesa" to death.

"Sofia drops the bomb to Richardo about she knows he murdered the Reyes. Didn't she say the same thing to him last time she confronted him. I think it was before the holidays."

She had to drop the bomb on him again so Ruth could overhear their conversation.

Julie - ROFLOL with the innoculation formula. I'll have to find the recap (was it Melinama's?) that said, "Juan lines. Sofi lines." BuaHaaaaaa

But what if I only find and bookmark the YouTube episodes with swimming and shower scenes? Ack.

"OT - Did any of you see the promo for "Pobre Millionaria," during FELS on Friday, that will start Jan 13th? I love Gianella Neyra and may give this one a try. I know it's a refrito. It's also daytime 'novela, so it gives me concern, but I enjoyed the old 'Limavelas' that Looneyvision used to show at midday.

Hope it's not a dud. I'll be giving it a try because of GN and JA.

I think that is replacing Lola:Erase Una Vez. They are in Ultimos Capitulos and will be wrapping up by that time. Believe it or not it has slightly more episodes than Fuego at 224.

:-)))

For me Esmeralda and Rosalinda are very good telenovelas. I love Entre el Amor y el Odio too, it was crazy, but César *fangirl screaming* and Susana had great chemistry.
I don't dare to watch Mundo de Fieras. :-)

AriBeth - thank you! I have bookmarked that page. (grin)

Jardinera, thanks for the recap. I watched part of it this morning up until the point where El Coyote said Darth Ricky was his dad. Wow, now that's a good one! I didn't see that coming at all. Rigo must not have signed up for the right program. He didn't get the "Free Nun With Every Adoption" package.

I finished watching my Destilando DVDs and would like to get another Telenovela disc set. What would be a good one? La Fea maybe? I saw that one at Wal-Mart.

Connie, if you have Netflix or some way to RENT the La Fea DVDs instead of buying them, I would strongly recommend that you do that instead. Those DVDs cover literally only 5% of the whole series. (15 hours out of 300!)

Granted, most of what they cut out was no great loss, but there were some minor storylines that we enjoyed a lot, and those had to be cut out too. What's left in the DVDs is only the most important plot elements, but not necessarily the most entertaining moments.

However, if you've never seen it, then maybe you won't miss the stuff that's not there?

Thanks for the suggestion Julie. I found that to be true with Destilando. I didn't feel as "connected" to the story and characters as I was when I watched it originally. I just cancelled my Netflix because I never had time to watch the movies. Hope everyone had a safe New Year's Eve. I'm really looking forward to tonights episode! :)

Wow! Things are moving...
Thanks for the fun recap, and all the comments.

I can see how this would have been a decent, if crazy, novela if the extension had not been patched in there.

I loved the cute kid! He was adorable, I had to ask myself "wonder who lost that baby? Anyone we know?" It's a reflex now.

The new kid is probably Niurka's. Or Doctora Hotlips's. I can't remember Niurka's (whatever her character's name was) timeline so I don't know if that would work, but Doctora could have abandoned him shortly before meeting Juan in the jungle? Or, he's Root's. Do we know where she was all that time before?

Are we sure Jimena didn't get pregnant and accidentally have a baby while she was in her little coma?
Just trying to help!
"Creemelo"

Could have happened! As we all know, pregnancy is only visible for about a day, so we probably just blinked and missed it.
