Fuego, Monday 2/9 (#193): Curses! Foiled again!
The doctor gets the bullet out of Feo and seems to be writing him a prescription when Feo knocks him out and leaves.
At the Robles Reyes hacienda, Rigo thinks it would be cute if his little baby boy fell in love with Juan's little girls. Quintina smacks him. Pablito thinks it would be neat to be in-laws. Quintina smacks him too. There's more small talk of this nature and I have to get up early tomorrow, so please forgive me for skipping some.
Saul comes in, looking for Juan. He wants to say thanks and bye - he's moving out. Pablito doesn't understand. Quintina explains that the guy's had enough of Hortensia's nagging. The others try to talk Saul out of it (Rigo specifically mentions making up after a fight as one of the pleasures of marriage). Rigo and Eugenia make out and Quintina says "hey, don't count money in front of poor people!" Heh. Hortensia asks Saul to reconsider. Rigo says she'll have to promise stop scolding. Saul gives in. Whew, thank goodness that's resolved. Now we can have a happy ending.
Feo stumbles into the cave with Libia's crypt and has happy flashbacks to her death.
One of the gossip sisters tells Juan and Sofía about the scene at church. Juan covers his mouth, stifling laughter at the news of Gabi's excommunication.
Gabi goes home from church, thinking to herself that she made Feo leave her and now she's alone, she has nobody now, not even God. Feo watches from afar and thought-bubbles that Gabi won't be able to bear being alone.
Nabor is cleaning up when he knocks over the St. Francis statue and the pedestal it's on, revealing Feo's Big Bag o' Swag hidden inside the pedestal. He gapes at the cash, ignores a big envelope, and opens the little box without hesitation. Aforementioned gossip sister shows up and admires the necklace. She invites him over for churros and chocolate tonight with her sister and Tio Vicente. She promises that it will be "very intimate." He refuses to commit!
Fatima and Rosendo apologize to Gabi and say they don't know where Ruth is and haven't seen her in a few days. Maybe she left. Gabi wonders if she ran away with Feo.
Dr. Montes reports Feo's assault to the authorities. That's right - he goes straight to the Padre. (Evidently, he too has given up on the comisario.) After he treated Feo, Feo knocked him out and took off. If he's not careful, his wound will go gangrene.
With atypically impeccable timing, Juan shows up with his brothers and explains that Gabi shot Feo.
With even more coincidentally perfect timing, Nabor shows up with Feo's bag of goodies. The brothers recognize it immediately. The Padre sends the doctor and Nabor out. Juan is eager to see what's in the box. Oscar doesn't recognize the necklace, but Juan certainly does. He refreshes their memory - "our mother's necklace, I gave it to Libia for protection." (It didn't work!) He has a flashback of giving the necklace to her. She says she gives thanks to the Virgencita every day because Juan has been like her father and mother. He's the best brother in the world!
The guys realize that there's only one way the necklace could have ended up in Feo's safe. The Padre has a flashback to Feo's "confession" of killing her. The guys are all fired up for justice. The Padre protests, but nobody's in the mood to listen.
Gabi sulks by the pool with her "daughters" and her best girl, Brandy. Her daughters try to get her to cheer up and fight, but Gabi grumbles that everyone has betrayed her, including them. (Gabi's lines.) The girls deny. (Girls' lines.) She claims that the Reyes don't know how to love. They know only vengeance and attacks. They'll rot in hell. More Sofía's lines. Gabi takes off in disgust.
Feo goes to church, hoping to grab his money and go away. He pauses before the statue, takes off his hat and crosses himself, and looks for his bag. It's gone. He won't be able to go!
The Reyes Brothers get their guns ready for another formal declaration of vengeance. They all talk to the camera, so you know they mean business.
The girls think all the stress on their mother can't be good for her health, but they can't get through to her. If only she had listened to Sofía, none of this would have happened. Jimena says Gabi had it coming to her. Sofi says it was Feo too. She confides that Juan thinks Feo is the one who raped her. Sarita seems particularly upset. Sofía indicates that she's a strong woman now and he can't hurt her any more, but he's also messed with their mother and it's all his fault. Sooner or later he'll pay for all he's done.
The brothers visit their sister's tomb and bring her up to date. They swear vengeance again and leave. Feo comes out of hiding again and says "let's see who hunts whom... I'll swear too!" He purposely steps on her grave on his way out.
Quintina takes her guys on the road. Like, literally the actual road. The dusty trail. A pickup truck on a country road. For a fee, ladies can have their pictures taken with a couple of guys. It's one of those things with a life-size cartoonish picture of a swimsuit model, and then there's a hole where her face would be, so you stick your face there, presto you're a swimsuit model. Life's too short to recap this foolishness in greater detail.
The guys ride around looking for news of Feo's whereabouts.
Feo sees a guy in town who's about the same size as him. He muses that this guy can help him with his plan.
Eva tells the Padre that she was happy when Ruth agreed to be her daughter and run off together, but then Juan swore that Sofía is actually her daughter. She found her crying and she said that Feo raped her. (All the Padre can say to this is "have faith and more faith.") Eva says she has faith, but she's still afraid. And she's also worried about Ruth. If something happened to her, she's sure it was Feo's fault.
The guy Feo noticed in town is now dead in Libia's tomb. Feo says he was damned just by crossing his path.
I feel I should mention that the moon is full.
The brothers visit the sisters at the hacienda and report that Feo killed their Libia. It's going to be a long night. Hugs, kisses, blessings, "be careful." The guys gallop away. Eva comes out and tells the girls that nothing bad will happen. Sarita tells her the guys will kill Feo. Jimena says she doesn't wish any harm to anyone, but Feo's got to pay for what he's done. "He deserves the worst of punishments!" Eva agrees, but urges them to calm down. Sofía says how great Eva is and gives her a kiss. Eva thought-bubbles happily that Sofía's her daughter, no matter what Gabi says.
When the guys said it was going to be a long night, clearly they meant a different night, because it's already morning. Feo has rigged a time bomb out of a kitchen timer, some duct tape, and way more circuitry than should be needed for a bomb. He leaves it in his truck with the dead guy in the driver's seat. Then he makes a big scene in front of Rigo and the other workers, thought-bubbling that he's setting a trap. Rigo sends a guy to the house to tell Juan. Feo takes off on his horse.
Meanwhile, the guys tell Quintina they couldn't find any trace of him last night; Juan yells at Franco for hoping he took off for good.
Gabi, drunk and distraught, looks at old photos of men who never loved her: JJ Robles, Bernardo, Ricardo, and Feo. One by one, she hears the latter three say (in her mind): I don't love you, and I will never love you. (JJ's picture doesn't say anything) Not one of the men in her life ever loved her, she reminds herself. Time for another drink. She tears up the photos and throws them on the desk, but don't worry; those photos looked surprisingly fresh. I'm sure she can crank out another batch on the inkjet printer tomorrow.
A field hand warns the guys that Feo was trespassing. They ride out to investigate. Rigo says he lost sight of Feo for a moment, but there's his truck! Feo hides in some bushes and gloats in anticipation, "they fell into my trap."
Gabi continues to sob at her desk about the pain of loneliness. She takes out her gun and wishes she didn't have a heart so she couldn't feel. She pulls the hammer back and slowly turns the gun on herself. Unfortunately, she's interrupted by the girls. "Go away or I'll shoot. You never loved me. Now you can stop pretending." They beg her not to do it.
Juan and Franco cautiously approach the truck while Oscar stays behind to cover them because he can't run yet. They vaguely see a hat through the windshield, but there's glare from the sky and they can't make out his face. He's not moving at all. On Juan's signal, Oscar shoots at the middle of the windshield. The man in the hat doesn't move. Juan smells a rat and tells the guys to get back. As they do, the truck blows up. (Feo responds with a comically exaggerated "shucks! foiled again!" gesture of defeat.)
Gabi seems earnest in her desire to be dead. Sofía tries to talk her out of it. (They've had similar conversations before, just without the gun.) Gabi finally puts the gun down, sobbing. Jimena and Sofía escort crazy Crabi to bed. Sarita lags behind, contemplating the gun thoughtfully.
The brothers watch the flaming truck and conclude that Feo has killed himself to escape justice. Juan is frustrated that Feo and Ricardo didn't have to pay for their crimes. Franco points out that if Juan hadn't thought so quickly, they all would have been killed. Juan thinks it seems like Feo set them a trap so they'd die with him.
Feo gloats to himself that now that they've given him up for dead, he can attack them without anyone ever suspecting him.
Eva meets with Soledad at the convent. They have a long, repetitious conversation in which they conclude that Gabi is a liar and that Sofía is definitely Eva's daughter, based on how Eva was always nice to Sofía and Gabi never was. That's all the proof Eva needs.
The brothers tell the sisters about Feo trying to lure them out to his truck, which then blew up but they didn't get hurt and only Feo died. Then the sisters tell the brothers about Gabi being in a bad state. Gabi shows up with a big fresh-squeezed brandy, and I keep thinking maybe she'll take another tumble, but she doesn't. Juan tells her that Feo is bien muerto, blown to bits. Gabi numbly mumbles that this can't be true. Franco says Feo blew up his truck with himself inside. Gabi gets all upset, and we fade out with a dim vision of Feo floating over her left shoulder.

Like I said before Gabriela's excommunication was real. Que lastima. It was so pitiful seeing her shunned by the congregation as she walks away from the house of God.
I'm surprised at the lack of security guards at public places in Serdan. The Dr. was forced to work on Fernando then while writing a prescription was pistol whipped by Fernando. Ungrateful bastard. I don't remember Fernando ever being at Libia's tomb. I wonder where he got the directions to the cave in Xochitlan....
Meanwhile i'm glad that Saul and Hortensia have resolved their differences so now we can move on.
I don't blame Juan for trying not to laugh at Gabriela's excommunication. She is his nemesis. Always has been. And he feels like gloating but with Sofia present he had to somehow control himself.
I can't believe one of the sisters thought that Nabor was going to give her the medallion as a gift. When it was pretty obvious that he found the stuff. Too bad for Feo. Heh.
When Fernando was building a bomb, he sure found some computer circuitry and motherboard as parts. And I thought Serdan was technologically challenged. LMAO.
I think those ranch hands could have taken Fernando down if they wanted too. They just looked so scasred at him. One thing I have to wonder is how he could time it so that the Brothers approach the truck close to the time it was set up to explode. It was funny seeing Franco jumping up instead of being knocked by the force of the blast. *shakes head*. Other than that this is getting good, except for the terrible pimping scenes by Quintina.

Interesting that they are taking their time finding Root's lovely lifeless body. I kind of hope they don't use the green makeup they had for Raquel but they probably need to use up the left overs.
I guess I am mean at heart because I enjoyed the shunning of Gabriela, it couldn't have happened to a more deserving hypocrite. She certainly has never acted like a good Christian but rather a superior sanctimonious one. Loved her sobbing in her snifter scene though. Diana is a great actress and must have been enjoying this role.
I was very impressed with Fernando 'McGyver' Escandon's little time bomb. Hel-lo?!? How clever and brilliant of him to know, down to the second(!), when the Bros. Reyes would approach the truck and have it timed appropriately.
I wonder where he stashed Root's body.
Pad.Tad. looked like he was going to crack up with laughter as each of Feo's confessed sins were coming to light on their own.
Geez, Darth suffers a gunshot and still marauds around town, terrorizing good citizens. Feo suffers a gunshot and still marauds & murders good citizens. Juan suffers a gunshot and runs a delirious fever for 3 days. Juan gets a splinter and runs a delirious fever for 3 days. What's wrong with this picture?
So, I did get to recap a dead guy this week, but I still don't count it as a death. We don't know the guy and we didn't even see the murder! *fume* I've only got one recap left on this mess - I hope there are still some people left to kill!
I wonder if Feo mapquested Cave of the Glowing Flower because he sure knew where it was and who was buried there. There must be a sign outside. I don't ever remember him being there before.
FINALLY--they opened the box.
doris
1) Darth's death
2) fire at Soledad's
3) Coyote's death
4) Root's disappearance
5) Feo's gunshot wound/ pistol whipping of Dr. Montes
6) Disappearance of now-toasted Feo stand-in (I'm assuming that this will go unreported)
7)probably about a dozen others, too. I just pulled these up from memory. If Muttonchops were involved, it would only drag out longer, and be of no consequence, he's even more ineffective that Pad Tad has been (Fe, fe, mi nina/muchachos, etc)
At least things are really happening, a fun ride now...
Why do I only see 2 of Juan & Sofía's niñas, where is #3?
I went to the cocina during the tonta scene with Quintina & the guapos.
Did you notice that Sarita took the gun? I think that will play out somehow.
Isn't that cave near where Fer killed Libia? The hermanos found her body there in the water & set up a memorial.
Gracias for the great recap.
The scene with Crabi at church was awesome. I thought it was going to be a dream too.
And Fernando followed her there after leaving the hacienda during Don Bernardo's wake.
Ibarramedia
Did Sarita keep the gun? I remember her looking at it.
I especially loved the line "They all talk to the camera so you know they mean business". Good one, amiga.
These recaps are certainly getting juicy these days. Enjoying the read and also knowing that this is coming to an end. Farewell full moon.
I think just before Feo hit the doctor, the doctor was about to give him a prescription, because later, the Doctor said if Feo doesn't care for his wound, he'll get gangrene - let's hope he does!
As for Ruth's body, the other day, Feo thought bubbled that he hid it so well "they'll never find the cadaver". And no one ever would find it in an actual search. But if someone just accidentally bumps into something (like Nabor and the pedestal in the church), that's how you find things in Mexidoom.
Now that is just creepy. I hope they at least find out what happened to Ruth instead of just being listed as disappeared. :(
Where could he have done this without anyone noticing. And by anyone, I'm talking about the ranch hands and other employees as well as the 'security' guys. thugs that Fernando used to order around when Rosendo was still Juan's enemy early on....
Ibarramedia
Sometimes we tend to react more towards bad things that happen to our loved ones than to things that happen to us. Nothing really terrible has happened to Sarita so far, but her one sister was raped, the other was almost raped, her whole family was swindled, her mother was used for her money... and they do say that it's the quiet ones you have to watch out for!
But maybe it's just a red herring. We'll find out!
As for the thing the doctor was writing, yes it's true that it could have been a bill, but something tells me a doctor does write up a bill when his patient has a gun. The risk of infection from a bullet wound is pretty significant, which is why I went with it being an Rx.
Maybe Feo will off Quinti & Co. next and call it a mercy killing. I swear that music sounded very close to the Village People "YMCA" and I was expecting them to burst out with that. (ugh)
I don't think Hortensia promised to change her ways with Saúl. If not, that whole scene was very lame.
I don't think we'll ever see Root's body. No funeral service for Rosario, Raquel, Darth, Root, Coyote. Yet another telenovela-land moral lesson: don't even think about doing bad things (e.g., Coyote), or no funeral mass for YOU.
Pad Tad's face was hysterical (IMO) when Gabi was denounced at communion.
doris
Not that it's any of Rigo's business. I can't imagine having that kind of conversation with a spouse at a breakfast table full of spectators in the first place.
Last night, I missed the first ten minutes and Gabi's excomm. Que lastima! Still lots to see, and probably more than we needed in the case of Quintina and company.
Julie, thanks for the excellent recrap.
Gabi's inkjet photos? Not only suspiciously fresh, but very uniform in size and color. We might have expected some of them to be black & white, considering the general technical level of things in Mexiloon.
The hermanos gathered in the field gave me flashbacks of "The Three Amigos" posed together. Was Feo's bomb supposed to be proof that no one is smarter than he? That was ridiculous, but in keeping with the norm here.
When Juan described Feo as "bien muerte," it reminded me of last week's "bien skanky." Heh.
I felt a strong kinship with Mexiloon and all its inhabitants last night. There was also a full moon in my sky.
La Paloma
Someone mentioned thinking it was Rosendo in the truck at first. So did I - I was only half-watching the first time through. We never did see Feo kill the guy. He just saw him out in town someplace and then next time we see him, he's dead.
Someone PLEASE correct me if I'm wrong about that, because it seemed so odd for him to resort to such a random killing.
I wonder if the guy's family will turn up in the story.
How does Feo kill a guy, drag him into the cave, drag him into the truck, all with a gun shot wound in the shoulder?
Gabi has to suffer more, that can't be all of it yet.
And I am sick of the stippers/Q story line. It is beyond stupid!
Thanks for clearing up the guy in the truck. I hadn't made the connection between the guy Fernando killed and what I thought was just a decoy hat in the truck. Now I understand why they thought Fernando was in there.
On the continuity, in one scene Fernando was reliving Libia's murder in her tomb, then he was at the church looking for his Bag o'Swag as Julie put it, then in the next scene he was back at the tomb cursing the Reyes as they left after pledging vengeance on him - he's scurrying around town like a rat!
Nabor is now the only person with sense in this whole town. How quickly and sensibly he approaches everything - not just opening the box as soon as he saw it or taking the bag to the Padre right away, but even in refusing to give an answer to the intimate dinner invitation! He's my new favorite character!
My guess: His ears.
Now, about Nabor: When he showed up in, what was it, the second or third episode? I assumed we'd see him again, if only because Feo would eventually have to face the consequences of framing a guy for murder. But I never, ever thought his role would be expanded, making him one of Serdan's most sensible citizens (and eligible bachelors).
Of course, I'm still mystified as to why Feo never thought to just tell people the 95% truth - that Bernardo fell off his horse and hit his head on a rock. Everyone still thought Feo was a swell guy at that point. It would have been fine.
Feo saw the man in town, sized him up, but we didn't actually see him kill him, just his lifeless body at the tomb.
Maybe Sarita will be forced to use the gun on Feo or best of all, on her own mom (if you can even call her that.)
Feo's got to stop getting his bombs from Acme or Bombs-r-us. It sure never worked out great for Wiley Coyote.
DoradoDave, I wasn't in any way confused by Feo's plan - I think Feo himself explained it pretty well. But thank you anyway!
What confused me was the murder itself. I felt that I had missed something. One second the man's alive; some time later, he's dead. Since when is this show squeamish about depicting violence?
It's probably a big deal (I'm guessing) to go from killing specific personal enemies, to killing a random stranger for a prop in an attempted triple-murder. You'd think this apparent milestone in Feo's life would merit like 30 seconds of screen time; maybe one of those fast-lapse sequences they do.
Plus, I am definitely curious as to the actual technique. Frankly, Feo doesn't have an excellent success rate with his murders. He's responsible for many deaths, but some of those (Petra, Mapache, Bernardo) were either committed by other people or were accidents. He also FAILED to kill several people many times.
Plus, someone already mentioned that having an injured shoulder should have been a problem. Good point.
Quintina's show - I wonder if there was some kind of publicity tie-in during the show's run in Mexico. Like maybe Quintina's dancers were touring for real or something? Whatever it was, I HATE HATE HATE it. (Though not as much as I hated Juan in the jungle with amnesia. I felt obligated to recap that stuff because I thought it might be going somewhere... hahahaha... no...)
Still don't know where the 3rd hija of Juan & Sofía is.
And while he is dragging this body around with his ears, did no one notice? Man this town is really unobservant!
Maybe the missing baby is the one they definitely know is not theirs.
Hey, I've heard a little about Fernando's background from members of this group and now from some of the revelations about Ricardo Uribe. So we know that his father was ruined by Ricardo and committed suicide, I think, because of it. But who was his mother? What happened to her?
Unless the influences of Mexidoom and the eternal full moon caused me to hallucinate, I saw an ad this afternoon on Looneyvision promoting the Por Fin. We have an end in sight.
Definitely the whole congregation shunning Crabi was satisfying.
--I'm also all for gangrene complicating Feo's life but I'd like something more violent bringing his rotten existence to an end. Though, he was pretty sweaty looking in the cave which was indicating lots of fever and infection. We could maybe hope the arm rots off first, but he'd probably already be dead by then.
The dead decoy dude: I think Feo thought-bubbled when he saw him in town "it's just your bad luck that I ran across you today."
The Desparate Housewives 'n Strippers Roadshow: as the violence heats up, it seems the "comic" relief is getting progressively sillier too.
Just show me the showers, please.
"Creemelo"
I'm thinking whoever said we might get to enjoy Feo losing body parts might be right. That gangrene comment was hopefully made for a reason, and if so I hope the infection heads south in a hurry. A gruesome demise and nobody deserves it more than our guy Feo.
