Las tontas no van #42, Mon 2/2, An Epidemic of Ugly

Tonight is an extravaganza of ugly. Ugly situations, ugly attitudes, ugly reactions, ugly results. Feo, feo, feo. The writers used their entire February ration of ugly all in one episode, so maybe they won’t have any left for the rest of the month. Ojala! Tonight is also Episode #42. Perhaps Pat will begin to find the answer to life, the universe, and everything.

Gregoria tells Alicia that Chava has leukemia, and Alicia says she doesn’t want to tell Pat, just as Pat walks in and insists on knowing their secret. Suegrita suggests, “I’ll tell my secrets if you tell me yours.” Pat prefers to go see a man about a dog.

Lulu shows up at the park looking ridiculous, as our pair of metiches spies on her. They see Meño arrive for his mystery date, discover that it’s Lulu, and leave without being seen. Lulu waits, feels rejected, gives up, and leaves. The writers have treated Lulu badly all along, but tonight they were at their worst. Feo, feo, feo. Charly and Luc conclude that Meño isn’t interest in Lulu. Charly speculates that maybe his dad really is gay.

I’d like to forget that scene. Fortunately for me, Santiago is wearing an orange sweater that makes me forget every feo thought I’ve ever had. I always thought Camil looked best in black; I was wrong. In orange, he looks as good as Colunga. No, I lied. But Dang! He looks good!

Santiago takes Rocío to see her good friend Chava. She’s healthy and masked against germs. Chava says that when he gets well, he’ll be Rocío’s novio. Roc makes a hearts-and-flowers picture of the two of them so she can always be with him. Can anyone tell what Chava’s picture is? A monster? A germ? Meanwhile the doctor advises Candy, Santiago, and Meño about marrow donor compatibility. A brother is the most likely match. Lacking that, Santiago gently suggests Chava’s father. Candy is not willing to talk to Pat. She tells the doctor that Chava has no father. Santi has been wrestling with himself, debating how much to push and how much to respect her choices, but he can’t take it anymore. “Candy, you’re playing with your son’s life.” She still refuses. Feo, feo, feo. The doctor brings up the subject of costs, and Santiago assures them that he’ll be responsible for the costs. Outside by the noisy fountains, Santiago again promises Candy his complete support. They give each other warm looks. I give Santiago and his sweater warm looks.

Raúl starts reading Santiago’s e-mail, the one where Santiago tells him he’s in love with Candy yet he’ll marry Marissa, but Raúl shouldn’t ask him to be happy about giving up the woman he loves. Raúl gets called away without closing his e-mail. Gee, I wonder what will happen next.

Back at the institute, Chayo tries to talk to Lulu, still in the pink dress, but Lulu has a mental block against all reason because of the way the writers portray women who are unattractive. Feo, feo, feo (the writers, not Lulu). Lulu even speculates that maybe the anonymous card was someone‘s cruel joke. Bull’s-eye!

A power outage strikes Raúl’s office, and his e-mail from Santi is lost before anyone else reads it. Yeah, and if you believe that, you also believe Sophia when she says, “I’ll never doubt you again, Juan.” Actually Marissa comes in, reads the e-mail, and throws an ugly fit, throwing papers everywhere. Feo.

Meño counsels Candy on the couch. If she’s not a viable donor, she’ll ask Soledad to get Beto tested. But not Pat. Anyone but Pat. Meño tells her to think positively, and to take care of herself so she doesn’t get sick too.

Santiago consults with a new patient, Pilar. She wants the works, a total rebuild. Santi brings up the question of cost. Pilar says that is no problem, since Santiago will be doing it for free. Santiago is of course curious about why he would operate for free. Because if he doesn’t, she’ll cry rape. Feo, feo, feo. (He hasn’t had good luck with that name. I think he should refuse to work with anyone named “Pilar.”) She admits that many won’t believe her, but the doubts will be enough to ruin his reputation. As Pilar lists her demands, he’s interrupted by a call from Chava’s doctor, to remind us how many demands weigh on Santiago. He can’t believe Pilar would do this. I can’t believe someone in his position isn’t prepared for such situations. And as if that weren’t bad enough, he’s not wearing the orange sweater anymore. Que lastima!

Gregoria also tries to talks sense to Candy, to save Chava’s life. If Candy’s not compatible, she needs to ask Pat. Candy won’t budge. She’s the one who makes the medical decisions for Chava, and Pat must never know he has a son. Feo, feo, feo.

Meño answers the door to Raúl. Note Meño’s formal and deferential language. Raúl offers his support as well. Meño later encourages Candy in her office, reminding her of when she played Super Mama with a little fair-haired, fair skinned, square-faced boy who is supposed to be Chava. He reminds her that she needs to call on Super Mama again. The conversation shifts to Lulu. He told her directly that he’s gay, but she refuses to listen.

Tina talks to Isabel about her fear about her medical test results. Isabel tells Tina about when she got her diagnosis, and Tina asks Isabel to pray with her.

In Candy’s office, Chava’s doctor (has anyone heard his name?) shows Santiago the projected cost, Santi again agrees to cover it, and they join in a PSA for charities for kids who can’t afford medical treatment. We know the PSA was shoved in because Candy actually shows concern for someone other than herself! Note, Jaime Camil always participates in Teletón Mexico, an annual event which supports children’s rehabilitation facilities.

Isabel and Jaime talk about her son’s jealousy, their upcoming wedding, and decisions they need to make before that time. While they talk about their mutual attraction, Donato manages a well-aimed accidental spritzing, trying to dampen the fire.

Chava’s doctor makes another house call to introduce the nurse that will care for Chava. And there is encouraging news. The orange sweater is back! Chava wants to thank Santiago for paying for his operation. Chava promises that when he gets better, he’ll pay Santiago with lots of kisses because he likes him so much. For now, they trade man-hugs. Santiago is such a papa!

Charly goes to the restaurant and tries to get answers from his dad. Meño avoids him.

Outside, Santiago tells Candy how moved he was by Chava’s hug. Candy is moved as well, moved to kiss Santiago, but Raúl interrupts them before they can, setting the stage for dueling galáns. The battle is as much in their stance as their words. Santi takes a step back to allow them room to talk.
Raúl informs Candy that he has set up a bank account in her name to cover medical expenses. He’ll provide whatever she needs. He strokes her hands to express his concern for her son. At least that’s his pretexto.
Santiago moves in and removes Raúl’s hands from Candy’s and tells him that won’t be necessary since Santi has already offered to pay all expenses.
Raúl tells his sister’s fiancée that he should save his money (and his affection) for his new wife and family. Smacked down, Santi steps away again, Raúl takes her hands again, and Santi moves back in again. Raúl says he doesn’t want them to ever lack for anything; he wants to be the father to her son.
Santiago can’t restrain himself any longer. “I can’t believe what I just heard!”
Raúl tries to pull Candy away to talk, but Santiago follows.
Santiago sets Raúl straight. “Chava already has a father.” Candy tries to say something because she thinks she’s involved in this conversation. Santiago cuts her off because he thinks she’s not. He’s not willing to risk Raúl scoring any points, so he has to think fast. “Candy, don’t you realize he’s taking advantage of your crisis, of this vulnerable time in your life, to capture/win you?”
Raúl protests, “That’s a low blow. You know I’m not like that.”
Santiago hates to admit it, but he knows Raúl’s right. Failing to score his point, he steps back.
Raúl, seizing his momentary advantage, moves in to close the sale. He takes Candy‘s hands yet again and says, “You know I’m in love with you.”
Santiago moves into panic mode and steps between Raúl and Candy. He asks, “Raúl, do you have the half talisman?” Raúl is totally baffled, but he says he doesn’t. Santiago turns to Candy for the first time in this conversation, and he’s getting desperate (he does ‘desperate‘ really well, don‘t you think?). “See? He doesn’t have it.” Turning back to Raúl, “You’re not the love of her life. She’s waiting for someone else.”
Raúl asks if Santiago has been smoking his mother’s weed again, and Santiago insists that he has never smoked.

I know I devoted lots of attention to a relatively unimportant scene, but we had so much sadness Friday, and so much ugliness today, wasn’t it fun to focus on something fun and pleasant? Did you notice that while Santiago was obviously defending Candy as if she were his territory, she never protested?

At the restaurant, Charly tries again to talk to Meño about an important question, but Meño avoids him again.

Pat calls Santi to invite him for poker. Pat asks Santi not to tell anyone what he said about Candy. Pat implores him in the name of their friendship, even brother to brother because he feels so close, not to betray him in this. Santi says, “Who would I tell?” but all the while he recalls telling Candy, “Pat still loves you and feels responsible for your death.” Several things were odd about this scene. 1. Pat only met Santiago recently, but he acts like he is his very best friend. I think Santiago is his only friend. 2. Why is it suddenly so urgent to Pat that Santiago doesn’t tell anyone? Alicia already knows he still loves Candy. 3. Does Santiago’s hair look much shorter? The sun is on the wrong side so he’s usually in shadow, but it seems really different. If his hair is shorter, then they shot this scene long after the surrounding parts. It seems like an unnecessary scene. Why would they tape something useless, long after this phase in the show?

Rocío and Beto are once again trying to figure out how the world works. Beto knows that when people get sick, they die, since his grandmother got sick and she died. Rocío counters that only old people die, not kids (we’re with you, Rocío; run with that thought!). She remembers she had a cold and she didn’t die. You can’t argue with logic like that!

Gregoria asks the doctor what will happen if Candy is not a qualified donor.

Candy tells Santiago that Chava will be in the hospital for two or three weeks, and she’ll really need his support. He is glad to offer it. Then she says she’ll tell Marissa so she’s not jealous, and Santi is not so glad. He tells her it’s unnecessary since they’re not doing anything for Mar to be jealous of. Candy insists on telling Marissa anyway. In other words, “Pay a mountain of money to save my son’s life. Come running whenever I call. Support me because I’d be a basket case without you. But I‘m keeping my distance from you.” Feo, feo, feo.

Charly is angry because his dad keeps running away from his questions. He takes out his anger on Lucía. Feo.

Santiago takes Candy to a church and reminds her of all the things in their favor. Candy says that she used to think she could manage everything, but now she has to leave her son’s life in the hands of others, and she realizes how much she needs God.

TWO WEEKS LATER
At the institute, the staff talks about Chava’s upcoming operation. Soledad says that tomorrow they’ll test Candy for compatibility.

Charly goes to talk to Meño with a chip on his shoulder because his dad has been evading him. Charly says, “Are you gay or not?” Meño lies with the truth. “I feel like an animal being chased. And I’m not!” Feo.

At the hospital, the shorter doctor, Martin, a leukemia specialist, explains the procedure to Candy. Candy is surprised to learn that if all goes well, when Chava recovers he’ll be able to live a normal life. He’s already been admitted to the hospital.

Santiago takes Candy home, and the strain is just too much for her. She begs him to promise that she’ll be a match and Chava will be alright. He would do anything for love, but he won‘t do that. Candy breaks down. He holds her and promises that he’ll never leave her alone, that he’ll always be with her.

The next morning, Dr. Martin gives Candy the news – she is not a match; she cannot be a marrow donor. Candy, grasping at straws, suggests Beto as an alternative. Santiago once again tries to convince her to contact Pat, because she is playing with her son’s life.

Pat takes Beto home and counsels him about soccer. Beto misses Chava and tells Pat that he’s sick. A girl in his class says Chava might die. Pat is visibly shaken by the news, the universal tragedy of a terminally ill child.

Candy tells Soledad that she is not a qualified donor, but Beto is a possibility because siblings have the best chances. Soledad starts to tell Candy that she is afraid to put Beto through the procedure. Candy interrupts her because what Soledad wants doesn’t really matter, does it? Candy wants Soledad to subject her son to surgery, because Candy isn’t willing to face Pat to save her own son. Feo, feo, feo. Es tan feo que, por eso se inventaron la palabra feo.

Charly goes to tell Lucía that he’s leaving town. He’s fed up with the way his dad treats him, not talking to him. Luc is desperate to keep him from leaving, and she suggests that she can hide him in the basement (sótano).

Back at the apartment, the doorbell rings. Soledad warns Candy that it’s Pat, and Candy hides in the bedroom. Pat sends Beto to the bathtub and asks Sol what’s wrong with Chava; Pat heard he’s very sick. She tells him that it’s leukemia. Pat is taken aback by the news and asks, “He could die from that, couldn’t he?”

“No, he’s not going to die,” says Candy, coming out of hiding. “You’ll save him.” Pat tries to stand up but his legs fail him. He tries to talk but his mouth fails him. All he can stammer out is “Candy.” Before Pat can corral his thoughts and emotions, while he’s still trying to comprehend what his eyes are telling him, the second Richter 8.2 earthquake strikes. “Our son needs you. Chava is yours.” And the third, “You can save his life.” Pat looks like he got hit in the gut by a meteor.

Welcome to Paris. The weatherman says it’ll be a dark and stormy night.

Loved your opening paragraph and how you tied everything in with that. And also the way you highlighted the "choreography" of the debate scene between Santiago and Raul.

I continue to be baffled by the scattershot scenes. After that terrible angry scene of Marissa discovering the e-mail, you'd think there'd be some sort of followup. But no.. "two weeks pass" and Chava's getting ready for the bone marrow transplant and Santiago and Candy continue as a couple. Weird. At least to me.

Thanks Paula. And a pox on those writers for that outfit and that situation they subjected Lulu tlo!

Making fun of vulnerable people is not the same thing as clever humor.

It was an excellent recap Paula, thank you so much.

I had surgery last week and had kind of looked forward to some light episodes of Tontas (as opposed to the depressing storylines currently in Angel and Fuego) and was very dismayed at Chava's illness.

Candy's initial reluctance to find Pat and tell him what was going on is inexcusable. I thought their confrontation last night was heartbreaking and cried along with them!

I also felt sorry for Marissa and for Lulu. Why would Santiago write such an e-mail to his prospective brother in law? Although not the nicest person, it was obvious Marissa was devastated. I think Lulu is very attractive and very pretty. The dress and the candy were what made the situtation unattractive.

Hopefully, Pat will be a match for Chava and he will be on the road to a quick recovery. Diana in MA

I bet they cure Chava completely in about two episode.

I was so angry at Candy for thinking she could continue denying Patricio I had to fast-forward through every scene she was in! Which meant I had to miss Santiago too! She is so, so selfish and childish. Grrr.

I was also furious at the way they played Lulu for laughs - all her eating in her maxi-sized Tinkerbell outfit. Grrr.

The kids are great though. So cute and natural. Anybody remember that tn (was it Mundo) in which the kid was so awful and despicable they had to kill him off?

All I can say is Bravo, your recap was great! You are right the writers were feo, feo. I could not believe they would make Lulu wear that outfit. Candy is making me crazy, thank goodness she confessed to Pat at the end of the show. It was ridiculous. Santiago was the best part of this show.

If you all will indulge me in a little PSA re bone marrow...

I try to lend a little support to the National Marrow Donor Program from time to time. I was on the marrow registry they operate but am now too damn old at 61 to play in their sandbox any more.

Anyway - what led to all the above was a) losing my sister to ovarian, and b) a story in our local paper about an eight year old Navy brat who needed a marrow transplant. The "a)" issue was something I could do nothing about, but "b)" I could at least go get typed.

So I went down and gave up a vial of blood and left a little dinero for them. Never got called to donate marrow, but it felt pretty good to contribute as much as I did.

Click the link up there (thanks, Paula, for the HTML lesson!)and see if it looks worthwhile to you.

Excellent recap, definitely a feo, feo episode. You handled it very well.

Diana, I hope your surgery we well and you and Chava will recover quickly.

I agree about the writers' treatment of Lulu. She is very attractive in her 'normal' clothes. The Tinkerbell dress was way over the top. As an 'enhanced' person myself, I was offended by their so called humor. Feo!!

Diana, I hope you your surgery went well and you are feeling better.

The scene with Lulu was simply awful and wrong on so many levels. Ugh.

I was also confused by the scene where Marissa read the email. She got mad but did she do anything else? Erase it? I felt like I missed something.

I for one was completely blown away when Candy stepped out and revealed herself to Patricio. Finally!

Dear Paula, you really got stuck with a dreadful episode and you handled it so very well. Thanks for taking one for the team. Excellent job amiga. I enjoyed your analysis of Santi and Raul's verbal battle over Candy. Thank goodness you were rewarded with some superb scenes featuring Jaime Camil and his fantastic orange sweater. He was wonderful in this episode. And yes, so were the kids. (I remember the kid from Mundo who got boiled like a lobster. Yeah yeah, sounds terrible but it was kind of funny.)

Mike, thanks for the info regarding bone marrow registry. I'm so sorry to hear about your sister.

Thank you Emilia and Sylvia for your well wishes. Greatly appreciated.

Mike, great you chose to get involved. I also extend condolences about your sister. Losing loved ones is so difficult. Diana in MA.

Paula, A great recap of this increasingly exasperating show.I like Lulu a lot and I'm also disappointed in the way she is being treated by the writers and now the wardrobe people. Shame on Charly and Lucia, although I think that their original intentions weren't malicious. Shame on Meño for not rescuing Lulu from embarrassment. Shame on Meester Raul for trying to take advantage of Candy's vulnerability. Shame on Candy for her continuing self-centeredness. Shame on Patricio for being such an all around jerk. And lastly shame on me for becoming hooked on this now unhappy show. Carlos

Thank you, everyone. Sylvia, it wasn't really so bad. The ugly was so obviously ugly, I didn't have to describe or explain it. I could just slap a red "CONDEMNED" label on the door and march on. Notice how little press I gave to the Lulu scene? Besides, I got to wash my eyes out with that orange sweater. Maybe no one else felt that way, but for me, Tan divino!

I refuse to think any more about the Lulu scene. Basta! The writers were ugly and it doesn't merit my attention. Fuera dolor!

Something struck me last night. When Candy begged Santi to tell her that she would be a compatible donor. She would only do that if she trusted him. Once in the army I had to walk w/i 10 feet of a wood rat nest. I am near-phobic about rats but I couldn't avoid it. So I asked JB, one of my squad-mates, to tell me they wouldn't get me. When JB said, "They won't get you," I knew it was true because JB's word was trustworthy. Remember, early in the show, Candy distrusted everything about Santi? This scene indicates that now she feels, "If Santiago says it, I can believe it."

Hombre d'M! You 'cised it (you got it precisely right)! You predicted that we'd move on to Act II around episode 40. In the Mex broadcast dates, last night was Cap 40. Buen hecho!

Did you notice how everything is changing all at once, instead of a progressive series of plot developments?
1. The big Pat reveal, an obvious turning point. That changes everything.
2. Charly essentially knows Meño is gay. And the runaway scene last night, plus his drunk scene last week, tell us Charly isn't just the sweet, fresh-faced kid.
3. Mar's pregnancy was only a week ago, and you know there's gonna' be fallout from that e-mail. This could mark a change in the plot as well.
4. Isabel and Jaime are getting married, changing big-house dynamics.

Hmm. Everyone is speculating about a pregnancy for Lucía. And last night, did you see the change in her relationship with Charly? He could leave Guad in a fit of teen angst, and then she finds out she's pregnant. Lots of potential drama.

Oh! I keep forgetting. CARLOS, could you please e-mail me? paulah88@hotmail.com

Diana...I AM SO RELIEVED TO HAVE YOU BACK ON-LINE. Really I was beginning to fret because you always write in, on all three shows and suddenly nothing...and you hadn't said anything about being on vacation and I went into my all too natural worrywort mode. So glad you are okay.

Mike, thanks for telling us your story. I got typed when a child in our church, suffering from aplastic anemia, needed a transplant and there were no matches in the family. Unfortunately no other matches were found either, even though the family got publicity on the tv channels. Finding a match can be pretty darn tough. Of course I'm too old now to be used either. But I guess they could still harvest my organs when I die. (not sure if that thought is comforting or not)Would the recipient be cursed with my yearning for York Mint Patties? I've heard about recipients developing the same weird food cravings of the donors. Cellular memory I guess.

Thanks so much Paula, loved your comments on a show where so much is headed downhill!
Yes, Santi was very cute in the orange sweater. Orange is not my favorite color but the creamsicle orange on him was gorgeous!
Strange nothing else on Marisa after she tore the desk apart. I thought she would next take on Santi. What has she been doing for two weeks?
Why in the world did they throw the blackmail into the mess?
Santi, Santi, strong and handsome. He carries the weight of the world on his shoulders. Nice shoulders too!
What an insult to Lulu with the Tinkerbell scene. The writers could have done a lot better. Shame on them!!!!

Carrie L.

Thank you for your kind words Judy. It wss so nice of you to notice my absence. Glad to be back. Diana in MA.

Paula, excellent recap as usual, and you are so, so right in your comment that Candy completely mistrusted "Doctor Plastico" for weeks, but now she trusts him completely and deeply. Of course now that she "came out" to Pat, everything's going to change. Now, we'll have Pat, Santi, Raul and Tono (I don't know if he really counts) all trying to be Candy's man!

I agree that Lulu's outfit wasn't funny, similar to what they did with Lety's initial makeover on LFMB. And I agree that Lulu is really attractive, and isn't someone in the insitute the fashion advisor? (maybe Chayo)

Speaking of Lety, I'm pretty sure Hortensia's assistant is named Lety, which may be some kind of inside joke because 1) this Lety is super atrractive, but 2) she doesn't do ANYTHING, last night her job was to hang up the phone.

Can't imagine hiding Charly in the basement is going to work for too long, but it could provide some comedy.

On to Paris!

I've got a feeling that bad, bad things are coming Charly's way. He is acting like a spoiled brat and his homophobia is annoying. Someone hinted that he had a friend who came out and I wonder of Charly was molested. In any event his treatment of Lucia was disappointing. I'm still holding on to the idea that there will be no teen pregnancy.

Candy does pick her moments. After avoiding any possibility of telling Pat she either gathers her courage or loses her mind and steps out and blurts everything out at once. If it hadn't been so serious I would have laughed at the look on Pat's face.

Pat and that odd relationship he is tying to force on Santi I'm guessing is because Pat has no friends. If he ever had any he probably lost them by coming on to their wives and girl friends.

I can understand Candy pushing at Soledad because after all the doctor did tell her that a sibling was the best potential donor. Of course I'm pretty sure it would be a full sib not a half but the doctor has no idea about the complicated relationships going on.

I think it was perfectly natural for a loco like Marissa to say nothing to Santi. If she brings up the subject of having read the letter she obviously fears he would leave her. In her mind it is better to keep silent and nab him but I'd bet the farm she will do everything she can to make Candy pay.

Another vote for the ugh factor of how they are treating Lulu. Meno is old enough to to know better and should never have run off. It was the perfect time to once again tell her the truth. As for the teens I think their hearts were in the right place. But for God's sake Lulu what were you thinking with that prom dress.

As i said before we have a substantial amount of time to go so why not throw in a ridiculous psycho patient to blackmail Santi. He should use his head, tape any conversation with her and turn her into the police. But no, this is after all a novela so we must suspend disbelief and believe that an ethical doctor would allow himself to be put in this position. I'm concerned that if he does perform the surgery she won't like it and he will be in much worse trouble. Que lastima!

Decie Girl, I agree about the psycho patient blackmailing Santi. He should tape her, or something. He definitely should not do the surgery, because not only could something go wrong, but she could STILL claim he tried to rape her, and he did the surgery to shut her up. If he doesn't do anything, he's way better off. Hope he figures this out, too (but as you point out, it's a telenovela, and there's a long way to go).

As for Pat and his lack of friends, it just occurred to me that he just recently moved to Guadalajara, so maybe all his friends are in Mexico City (we saw a few of them in the first episode).

Thanks for the recap Paula and the episode was feo. I loved and agreed with your observation about Jamie Camil in the orange sweater -- tan divino!

Decie girl - ITA regarding Candy finally approaching Pat - either it was courage or she just lost her mind. I'm going with the latter b/c she'd been such an idiot regarding Pat for so long.

JudyB - yes I live in Bloomington and am a professor in film and tv studies so watching novelas is research -- HA.

Diana - I'm glad your back and hope you recover quickly.

Mike - thanks for the link and sorry about your sister.

Good point, Mike, about bone marrow testing. I have done it. It is painless and easy, just a swab inside the mouth. I hope someday I will get the call that I am a match for someone, but as the woman at the registry said, it is very, very infrequent that a match is found for anyone, but hopefully there is that one person out there whom you could be a match for. So, go and be tested!

Thanks, Paula ~ I caught the last few minutes of this show and saw the Candy /Pat reunion. So long, Soledad and Alicia , Pat now knows his Onetruelove is ALIVE and that he has a son who is sick and needs him. This should get interesting. I hope that Chava is cured quickly. I hate storylines about sick kids.

Violet I so agree about going out and getting tested. While normally the match will be with a family member in some cases hope comes from outside. The perfect example is the great tenor Jose Carreras. If i remember his match was not a family member. While the testing is painless the actual donation process may not be but if we can help, why not.

Hombre good catch on Pat having recently moved to Guadalajara. I do have to point out that Pat is an idiot among other reasons for driving that conspicuous Ferrari all over the place. He is just begging to be kidnapped. Anybody with money and any brains at all in Mexico doesn't go flashing it driving in big cars. It's too dangerous.

Yes, Decie, a little pain to save someone's life, I think we can all handle that. Also, once you register, you're in the registry forever (unless your age forces you out) for anyone who needs you. You don't have to keep registering.

I can't wait to see tonight's episode with Pat and Candy face-to-face, FINALLY!!

I thought about him taping his next conversation with her, but then remembered from Querida Enemiga, that an audio tape (and possibly a video tape) will not hold up in a Mexican court. In QE, there was some talk about this with the attorney, but he shot the idea down.

Anybody else remember this?

It might not hold up in court, but it may work to expose her as a blackmailer and keep her from giving him a bad reputation with all those "friends" and people in the waiting room who might have believed her just a little. I hope Santi has a plan to deal with the conniving wench, and I suspect he does because he gave in pretty easily without seeming too concerned about it.

Hey Karen. Of course it's research! And my watching is studying Spanish. I might be better off slogging through a grammar book but this is a lot more fun.

How well I remember Bloomington. Beautiful campus but the summers were killers. Heat and humidity and oh my, the first summer I went to school there, I was living on the second floor of an old dorm built for the returning WWII vets. NOOOOOO air-conditioning. Very tough and I was still mourning my wonderful year I spent studying in Geneva Switzerland. Lots of moaning and self-pity. But lots of interesting adventures there too....ah youth.

Hey Judy,

Yes I am blessed with a beautiful campus. And you are right about the humidity here. Though I've lived in the midwest before (MI), I came here from Los Angeles and had forgotten how wretched it can be in the summer.

Definitely not a feo recap. Nice motif. I dribbled in and out of this one until about the second half then right after Pato sat on the couch I had to pull somethingfrom the stove. I walked back in to Pato's anguished look as I guess he was trying to mutter "Candi" and close. Guess I'll have to watch that again. I can't believe I missed the moment we've all been waiting for like that!!

Hombre, I have yet to read your Fri cap, I will though and comment when I have...
