MEPS 03/06/09: Eddie Plays Detective and Lili Still Seems Defective

Capítulos 14 and 15
[My apologies if you started to read this before and it seemed incomplete. The first time I posted the system ate up half of the middle portion. It seems to all be there now. --Ed. ]

The Bar-bot calls Dr. Oh! aka, Dr. Obregón, at the nuthouse and instructs him to administer our lovely Lili a drug that will keep her awake, but stupefied, when Gonzo and Fernanda visit the next morning. It would be dangerous for them both, she reminds him, if the otherwise Loony Lil were lucid and could actually talk enough to make some sense.

Across the way in the moonlight, Eduardo sneaks into the old storehouse and starts looking around. He finds his way up to the loft and notices the little heart with the "E y F" in the center that he carved on one of the beams that fateful day years ago . At the same time, Fernanda is working at her desk on a report for the company. The computer screen starts channeling Ed's thought waves and she begins daydreaming about the exact same memory. She tells herself that those were the happiest days of her life.

Eddie now remembers the two of them as happy children in the storehouse when little Nanda gave him her medallion to keep, and how they swore they would love each other always. The theme song plays in the background:

♪♪ ...I make an impassioned plea that you remember
that you swore not to fail me
and that we promised it would never end,
that tomorrow will be forever...♪♪

Eddie takes off the medallion and asks the virgencita to forgive him for breaking his oath to her, but, he says, out of consideration for Fernanda's feelings he can not wear it any longer. He places it on a broken piece of beam and continues exploring the storehouse.

Meanwhile, at Jacinto's, Gardenia is losing it. She starts screaming at her BIL that she can't take it anymore and wants them all to flee to the other side of the world if necessary just to get away from despicable Devil-Woman. Jacinto is sympathetic, but is reluctant to give in to her whims. She races out of the house and he and Margarita race after her for fear she'll try something stupid like opening her big mouth.

Eddie, still in the old storehouse, stops a minute and remembers the time that Sole told him to get used to the idea that nothing serious could ever be between him and Nanda. Nanda was wealthy and he was poor. "Never forget it, Eduardo!" (Kudos to both the composer and the audio tech. Even Jollywood would find it hard to fault the music or the editing.) He realizes how right his mama was back then.

Eddie roots around a bit more and notices an old blanket and a couple sheets lying in the corner (courtesy of Camilo, perhaps? -eewww!). He decides to spend the night there. As he starts to settle in he takes another look around the room with his flashlight. All of a sudden he notices stacks and stacks of powdered milk bags at the other end of the wall. It apparently doesn't make sense to him that they'd be there. Eddie starts to examine them more closely when he hears a truck motor outside and the main doors to the building begin to screech open. He hides in a corner and watches secretly as Osvaldo and a number of his men rush in and begin loading up the bags from the warehouse.

Outside somewhere, Jacinto finally catches up to 'Denia who is on her way to the main house to find Don Gonzo and tell him "just what kind of cockroach" the guy's married to. Jacinto is desperate to talk some sense into her. "Do you really think he's going to listen to you? And what's more, you're dreaming if you think you're actually going to speak with him." Margo angrily accuses Jacinto of being on Team Barbie, but he reminds her that they can't do a thing, unless she really thinks they're going to get the head of his security to get Gonzo out of bed just for Denia to tell him, "I caught your wife with Damian Gallardo and they were--" Margo gets the point and shuts him up with an ultimatum that either they leave town together or she will leave without him; and she wants his answer in the morning. Denia follows her back to the house..

Back at the old warehouse, Eddie continues to sneak peeks at Ozvaldo hurrying the men to get the sacks loaded up. Eddie wonders who the guy is and who's behind this secret pick up done in the dead of night. Finally Barrales comes in to tell Osvaldo that the last truck is full up and there's no more room for more than a few of the remaining bags. Osvaldo says they'll have to come back with a truck the next day for the remaining stack. The men lock up and drive off.

Babs and Gonzo are in bed now, but she can't sleep because she's worried how the visit with Lili will go the next day. She's got to get control of the situation and fast, so she pretends to start crying. Her noisy sobs are calculated to wake him up. Gonzo does and she unloads a line of bull that will convince him not to allow Lili to come back with Fernanda. She whimpers about being very afraid that Lili might have a breakdown like when she killed dear sweet Moan-sie. In another part of the house, Nanda gets ready for bed and looks over at the picture of the fifteen year-old Lili. Nanda thinks about how much she misses her older sister and that it's been fifteen years since she's even heard Lili's voice.

The next morning Ed goes looking for Jacinto in the stables. The place is huge and has dozens of stalls in it, leading Viewerville to wonder if the Elizalde's run a stud farm, too, perhaps. Eduardo tells Jacinto that he has something to show him before it gets moved and he wants him to see it right away. Just then Tomasa, one of the maids at the main house, comes yelling for Jacinto about a jacket that Camilo left there in the stables. He says he'll look for it but she insists on doing it herself. Suddenly Jacinto starts screaming in pain.

Speaking of stud-farming, up at the main house Anibal is ready to head into the office to discuss that secret shipment of black market milk powder with BOW, but Prissy nags and says he cannot go in yet. They have an appointment at the fertility clinic that morning. Anibal, who looks anything but hormonally driven around pretty-faced Pris, is not a happy camper.

Back at the stables, apparently to keep Tomasa from finding Eddie, Jacinto pretended he was stung by a wasp. He begs repeatedly for Tomasa to go back to the house to get some vinegar for him to put on the sting. It takes a while to convince her to go because she's afraid of getting bitched-out by Camilo, but eventually she leaves and Eduardo comes out of his hiding place. Jacinto has removed his shirt for the ruse and Ed sees that Jacinto has scars on his back. He asks him where they came from.

"It's a souvenir from Camilo." Jacinto remembers how years ago when they were boys Camilo brutally beat him with a horse whip because Jacinto supposedly hadn't fed his horse yet that day. WHAP! WHAP! WHAP! Camilo yells at him, "When I give you an order you obey!" (Viewerville can only hope that Camilo spends all eternity in some level of Hell being forever trampled by angry stallions.) Ed jerks Jacinto back into the present and tells him it's another reason for hating the Elizaldes. Jacinto tries to blow it off and says Camilo was just a kid when it happened. Eduardo asks Jacinto if, now that the guy's an adult, he's come by asking to be forgiven for it yet? Jacinto is about to admit Camilo might when pigs fly, but just then Kaiser, Camilo's horse, begins to whinny. Jacinto explains to Ed that as soon as Camilo comes near the stables his horse always gets upset. So, with Camilo obviously on his way, Eduardo hides in one of the stalls again.

Camilo comes into the stables. Jacinto saddles up Kaiser for him. Camilo then tells Jacinto that the day of his sister's wedding he wants him to have a gentle horse saddled up and ready. It's for one of his girlfriends who has never ridden before. He threatens him that he'll beat him with his whip if anything happens to her. Camilo rides away on Kaiser and Ed comes out of hiding. (From the way Kaiser's ears went back when Camilo mounted, it's apparent that the first chance this horse gets, Camilo's going para-sailing out of his saddle and over some cliff, but without the benefit of said para-sail.) Jacinto gets agitated and says if Camilo knew he was there he'd have a heart attack. Ed tells him that Camilo will be getting sick from much more serious things, just wait and see. They leave for the old storehouse together.

Margo tells Denia back at Jacinto's, now, that she's thought better about threatening Jacinto the night before. The two women go to the church to pray for Sole and to ask for guidance about the situation at the hacienda. Denia says they'd better pray for a muzzle for her, too, so Denia won't end up telling La Hiena to her face what she thinks of her.

Speaking of man-eating canines, BOW is by the doorway telling Lucio, Gonzo's chauffeur, that she wants a detailed report of absolutely everything he overhears her hubby and step-daughter say on the way to and from their visit with Lili. Gullible hubby, Gonzo, shows up just as the dorky chauffeur leaves. BOW quickly draws her fangs back in. Gonzo asks if she'll consider coming with them to visit Lili. Babs sweetly says she still has to attend to a number of wedding preparations. Fernanda shows up at that point. Babs, in a low, buttery-smooth voice (which to me is more like fingernails being scraped along a blackboard) asks Fernanda to give her warmest regards to Lili. Nanda says sure and then mentions that if Lili seems well enough she wants to bring her home. Babs cautions sympathetically that it's best to ask the doctor first and then affectionately sends the two of them on their way.

Anibal and Prissy are at the fertility clinic in the doctor's office getting instructions. Fanny, The Nurse (you can't be serious!) comes to fetch Anibal. Prissy asks him to be sure to turn off his cell phone so that nothing interferes with his...concentration. Anibal stares over at her and, if looks could kill, Prissy would have been summarily iced, sliced and diced in a nanosecond. Nurse Fanny leaves Anibal in the...er...testicular testing room which, BTW, is stocked with oodles of girlie magazines. Anibal notes the flat screen tv set up to go with an English language porno flick called (are you ready for this) "Fresh Jugs." As we leave him to his lonely task, the burning question for Viewerville is whether he would have rather had naughty pictures of Mr. World and a flick named "Diego Does Dallas" instead.

On the way to the psych clinic, Nanda tells her daddy that there must be something they can do for Lili. She thinks it's terrible that her sister has been shut away from everyone and every thing for the last fifteen years. Gonzo admits he also wishes that things could be different but says he's frightened (thanks to Babs' subtle brain-washing techniques) of her having another breakdown like she did when Moan-sie died. Lucio's all ears as Nanda asks Daddy to give her the details about why he is so sure it was Lili who killed Mama. Nanda explains that she never did really understand what happened that day.

Gonzo tells her that Lili was responsible for causing her mother's death after Moan-sie discovered Lili taking drugs. Lili became enraged over it. She and her mother were always at logger heads and by that point, Moan-sie's heart just couldn't take the stress any longer. He saw himself how crazy Lili got; and that she began talking nonsense. Lili started blaming Barbara for her crime, like she was needing to blame somebody else for what happened. He felt it was due to her being high on something.

In the meantime, on their way to the old storehouse, Ed tells Jacinto that he went to visit Lili the day before and that he mentioned his mother to her. He realized while he was there that she was not crazy after all. In fact, he thought she recognized him because she called out his name as he was starting to leave. Jacinto wonders how she could have known who he was if even he didn't recognize Eduardo the other day in town. Eddie says it might have just been a premonition or something. Jacinto is worried Lili might tell somebody about him, but Eduardo figures everyone will just chalk it up to hallucinations since they all think she's crazy anyway. Jacinto wonders what he plans to do now. He says he still hasn't any idea.

Fernanda and Gonzo arrive at the clinic and try talking with Lili, but she seems lost in her own world again. Nanda asks Dr. Oh! if he followed her father's instructions and suspended the drugs in anticipation of their visit. Dr. Oh! acts insulted and lies to them. He says that of course he did, even though it was against his professional recommendations. Lili tries to respond to her sister's attentions but Dr. Oh! tells them that the visit is disturbing her. He adds a dire warning that any attempt to take her back to her childhood home would have deadly consequences. Lili is lucid enough to understand and is disturbed by the lies coming from Dr. Oh! She attempts to break through the drug's effects but she still cannot manage to speak.

Bar-bot, meanwhile, starts calling around looking for Anibal. She gets hold of Prissy on her cell and finds out they're both at the fertility clinic in the middle of getting tested. Prissy says she'll have Any-balls (sorry, just couldn't resist that) call her back once they're done there.

Ed now shows Jacinto the remaining bags of powdered milk from the U.S. hidden in the Elizalde's old warehouse. Ed says he figures they've got to be there for some sort of shady business dealings. He absent-mindedly scratches off a label and they find out that the bags were all expired as of a couple of years ago. Ed's best guess then is that they probably bought these on the black market on the cheap and, of course, the product would be dangerous for anybody to consume. Jacinto wonder's who's idea this was and Ed says it's La Hiena trafficking in black market merchandise.

Lucio takes a break to call Babs with the skinny while waiting on Don Gonzo and Fernanda at the clinic.

Lili, meanwhile, keeps trying to communicate with Fernanda. Fernanda tells the doctor that it seems Lili's squeezing her hand desperately as if she's got something to tell her. Dr. Oh! lies again saying it's only an agitated response from not being given her usual medicines and that this could be harmful for her.

Back at the old warehouse, Eddie tells Jacinto that BOW is deceiving the authorities and has corrupted the company executives. Jacinto is ready to turn them into the authorities immediately, but Ed says they don't have enough proof since a few bags of expired milk product isn't proof of anything. They will have to find out where the rest of the shipment is stored first. Jacinto explains his situation on the home front and says things are starting to get ugly around there, so Margarita is demanding they leave the hacienda to start over somewhere else. He 's going to have to give in to her real quick if he can't convince her otherwise. Ed is thinking they're going to need a bit more time to consider strategy. Right now Jacinto needs to go with him somewhere else. Jacinto is definitely feeling the strain of his divided loyalties.

Lili manages to spit out the word "alone" in front of her papi and Nanda, then begs Nanda as best she can to tell the doctor to let the two of them speak alone. Fernanda is encouraged to see Lili is still aware of her surroundings. Dr. Oh! is on pins and (pardon the pun) needles at this slip-up and insists that these kinds of patients without their medicine begin to say incoherent things. Fernanda is adamant and says that Dr. Oh! can listen for any yell through the door. Gonzo agrees with her and the two men leave to wait in the hallway.

Fernanda tells Lili that she's got to get better and prove it to the doctors. She begins telling Lili all about marrying Damian, a great guy who loves her tremendously. Hearing this makes Lili visibly upset and Nanda supposes it's because Lili doesn't think she'll continue coming to visit her once she's married. Lili struggles until she spits out the words, "Don't get married!" Nanda is confused. "--Why do you say that, Lili? What are you afraid of?" Lili manages to answer, "The past." "--The past? No, you don't have to be afraid of the past. The things that hurt the family in the past are healed. Damian is a nice man who is very understanding." Lili struggles again to speak and manages to say next, "Eduardo!" Fernanda reminds her that Eduardo left the hacienda many years ago. Lili shakes her head and struggles again till she can actually make a coherent sentence. "Eduardo came back!" Fernanda is visibly impactada.

Meanwhile, Any-balls is pacing in the fertility doctor's office while Prissy patiently preens in one of the chairs. "So, were any of those videos helpful, or was just thinking about me sufficient?" Any-balls ignores Pris. She says, "At one time you told me that's what you used to do, think about me. --Or have your preferences changed and now you like them younger?" "--That's not funny!" he snaps at her. She says it seems to her what's not funny is that for him to get excited he's got to think about other women. (Ouch!) Anibal finds his pair and tells her that they're only there because she forced it and as far as he's concerned, the last thing he wants is a child, especially with her! The fertility doctor comes back in and interrupts this blissless marital moment to tell them the results will take a few days. He then gives them a paint-by-numbers fertility calendar with the appropriate days marked in red hieroglyphs. Any-balls has to ask, "Appropriate days for what?" Prissy jumps in and says, "your homework, my love!" and he promptly searches for the nearest crack in the floor he can melt through.

Back at the psychiatric clinic, Fernanda corrects Lili and again tells her that Eduardo "went far away many years ago." She suggests that Lili just dreamed it. Lili, though, to her credit, insists that he has come back. "He came back. He came to see me! He came! He came and I saw him!" Fernanda hugs Lili and tries to pacify her by telling Lil that she believes her, but Lili realizes this. She insists through her tears that she is not crazy and Nanda again tries to calm Lili down. Lili wimpers repeatedly that she is not crazy. She begs Fernanda to take her out of there. Lili can no longer control her frustration and starts screaming again and again that she's not crazy, she's not CRAZY! The guards rush in with Dr. Oh! right behind and they start shooting her up with sedatives. Lili begs her father and sister to take her out of there. Fernanda is horrified at what she sees. "Daddy, I can't handle this!" Dr. Oh! smiles smugly. "Now do you understand, Señorita Elizalde?" Nanda and Gonzo share a mortified and tearful embrace.

Jardinera, thanks for the great recap. I missed the first part when Ed took off the communion medal.

The Lili scene was really sad. She needs to get busted out of there. Maybe Ed can get her and hide her out in Sole's house.

This show certainly isn't slow and repetative, which is a nice change!

Thanks, Ajrdinera, for the very complete recap, You filled me in on a couple things that I'd missed.
What impressed me had nothing to do with the plot or characters. I noticed the hayloft in the scene with little Eddy and Fernanda, and thought that it must have been quite a building in its day. Last nite, that horse barn was REALLY something; even the old storage shed where the milk was stored was cool- did anyone notice the huge raised panel doors that they loaded the bags thru? That is one serious money horse ranch. Vicente Fernandez's, maybe?
Poor Jacinto, entre la espalda y la pared. He has as much reason to despise the Elizalde family as anyone, but can't see any way out.
Los hermanos Elizalde are complete asshats, they deserve whatever comest heir way. I thought that the younger one (the aspiring artist) was going to develop into a dcent person, guess not.
Prisila is becoming a favorite- spunky, sassy, and growing a spine. Kinda like Arleth was in Querendon.
Is it just me, or does Lili remind anyone else of a young adult Patty Duke? Eddy had better spring her from that looney bin soon, because I'm sure that Dr. O will give BOW a report on the visit, and she'l have him tighten the tranquilizer regimen, and really fry her synapses. My impression was that the worthless Gonzo hadn't been to visit Lili forever. Good daddy.

Well, we still don't know about that third brother yet - hopefully he's a good guy, and preferably smart. Fernanda really needs an ally.

Actually, since nobody recognizes Eduardo, I see no reason for him to hide. He might as well just show up and introduce himself as Ricardo McPirateson, or something like that.

Wish of the day: I'd like to see Barb drink a tall glass of reconstituted 2005 Vintage Milk.

Although we're finding bits to scoff at, this TN is moving along at a brisk pace, with action in each episode. Thanks for the awesome recap, Jardinera. Smooth transitions, juicy details, and great snark.
Did the clinic choose the Fresh Jugs video specifically for the head of a large dairy products business, or was that just luck?
Julie, loved the Ricardo McPirateson alias for Eduardo. Good suggestion.
Getting Lili back in working order is going to be a major project. I hope it succeeds.
La Paloma

Got [expired] milk ? Thanks, Jardinera . Julie~I love your suggestion for Ed's alias. I guess Hottie McHotterson would be too obvious. [Ah..it takes me back to Slutty McSluterson from Heridas de Amor.] I thought the scene of Ed's return to that barn where he and Nanda met as children was welldone...and how convenient for him to then stumble onto the stacks of bags labeled MILK . I didn't realize they were being stored there..nice touch. Watching a story with plotlines that actually make some sense is a nice change of pace after months of the wacky goings on in Mexidoon. However, I do wish Ed would find the nearest swimming hole and/or curtainless shower. He's so fine. Now go get them , Ed. I also hope the writers unleash Sergio and let him do his BSC best . He's been very subdued so far.

Ah, maybe the storehouse is to be converted into a community center.

All I know is that there was some community center thingy Fernanda and her father were excited about, and Babs told Damian to keep Nanda away from it because they were going to store the milk there.

BTW, the other night when Damian and Babs were getting it on, was anyone else shouting "yeah, go Damian! Do her like a cell phone!!" or was it just me?

And speaking of Fresh Jugs... maybe Anibal's into cows!

Nah, I still think he's gay. Funny that hasn't crossed Pris's mind, though, so maybe I'm wrong. But if he is gay, there's the potential for an interesting situation with Dr. Uh-Oh.

Jardinera: Thanks for the recap. I, too, noticed the huge barn. I have a feeliing that I've seen it before, but, nothing is coming through right now.

Camilo is a real swine. He's a credit to mama Barb.

I noticed they have 2 types of horses. One is a big guy, black & white, like a
Clydesdale, big furry feet. I love them all.

Tks Jardinera, cleared up muchas cosas.

Thanks for the recap Jardinera.

I guess the chauffeur is supposed to be comic relief. Every time I see him he seems to enamored with Barbie while she's mean to him.

Yes please rescue Lil quickly. As someone noted earlier Gonzo is worthless as a father and deserves everything Barbie gives him(he hasn't visited her for 15 years!!).

Susanlynn...it will just be a waste if he doesn't bathe or swim soon! We didn't even get to see him change into the black sweater. I feel cheated!

Has Gonzo forgotten that Montse was murdered, or is he just trying to keep the truth from Nanda? I can't imagine that in 15 years, Fernanda hasn't heard at least a suggestion that her mother was suffocated and that her sister was responsible. Why would Babs want to keep that a secret?

Great recap jardinera. So let's see. We have a small wooden box as a key plot device and a necklace. Are these novela staples? Are we going to see Ed using a rope to climb into the hacienda unannounced to visit Nanda? The scenes in the storage building were just so Hardy Boys as in maybe 'The Hardy Boys and the Secret of the Expired Milk Powder' Seriously, though I liked it - suspense and plot exposition. The building itself lends a lot to the story. FELS seemed to use whatever was handy. It gave no real sense of place or that the location might show up later in some significant way. Either the new beanie with the dechipmunk option is working or Nanda has taken it down a notch. Has anyone else had the same impression.

Abuelo P

Another splendid recap, Jardinera! I appreciate all the details. I missed some of the dialogue with the motor mouths Fernanda and Damian...
jb

Thanks for the entertaining recap, Jardinera, especially the funny comments regarding Anibal and Pris. What is it with the novelas and the fertility clinics. Remember the use of a fertility doc by by Isa, Rod's beached blonde wife, though she really became pregnant by conventional means though not by Rod. However, there was the exception with FELS in that there didn't seem to be any technology around, DNA especially. So here we are again with the poor uncomfortable man in the room with the magazines but at least this one has a dvd player and a dairy related video...how appropriate.... hee, hee, La Paloma. Anyway, all this can seem pretty objectionable lately because of OctoMom.

I hope Eddie and Nanda meet again soon.

Also thanks for clarifying for me why Jacinto was tearing off his shirt. I thought... how strange for a back injury, I had no idea it was because of a wasp sting GinCA

Oh no, Babs has been sleeping in the same bed with Dumbo Gonzo all these 15 years. Separate bedrooms. please. It seems like no reward would be worth whatever plan she is carrying out. GinCA

Jardinera, Thanks for the wonderful recap. The fertility Jugs movie scene was too fun. There seems to be some good character development. I suspect the writers of this series are far better than the FELS although I miss our beautiful Reyes boys, I don't miss having to wear a beanie to get through all those episodes that spewed toxic waste thoughts.

Susanlynn, we indeed are in serious need of a swimmin' or bathin' scene but you know they have to be comming soon.

Julie, thanks for the Ricardo McPirateson name and the let's make BOW drink large glasses of terminally old milk reconstituted how about with swamp water so she can begin to grow fins and frog warts.

I'm going to make Save Lilliana signs but not before they find somewhere to take her that BOW and Gonzo the grinning idiot don't know about.

Tee hee! Old milk with swamp water! Well, let's hope it gives her a lingering illness, not of those disappointingly quick dehydration deaths.

Abuelo P, I don't think it's just the hat. I'm liking this show a lot better too. There are still things to poke fun at, but it really does seem to be put together with more attention to detail and sanity than FELS was. Though I think I liked Dr. Gomez/Matasanos better than Dr. Octagon.

And three cheers for good sound editing!

Except for the flagrant flaunt of the law vis a vis the black market, I find it's hard to get overly excited about selling expired powdered milk. It's aparrently used in animal feeds without a problem and the most I could find on the "dangers" of expired milk was a blanket "harmful for human consumption" without further explanation. Lots of folks use expired powdered milk in baking and cooking. As in most things, it could be that the date is there to protect the manufacturer/sellers from various sorts of legal hassles, merited or not.

Pardon the convoluted thought processes here, but did you ever wonder what else you could do with expired and non-expired powdered milk? Seems somebody at Grupo Lactos could avoid a legal take-down and make a bundle for the company buy playing middleman and re-selling it to animal feed operations at a fair mark up, or if all else fails, by repackaging and advertising it as "Magic Milk-mash For 101 Household Uses." See the following:

http://www.wisebread.com/paint-a-room-and-wash-your-face-more-uses-for-powdered-milk-than-you-ever-imagined

Jardinera, Thanks so much for the recap, terrific as usual!

Julie - Ricardo McPirateson!!!! I spit out some coffee reading that! I love it!

I love the Hardy Boys and the Secret of the Expired Milk too!

Can you just imagine if someone from the novela actually read our stuff? Would they laugh or be insulted? I think it's hilarious!

The scene with Liliana was really sad, I could feel her frustration. I was hoping she'd start writing things down for Nanda.

So far I'm not so impressed with this novela, the only reason I'm going to keep watching is for Senor McPirateson. It should be a crime for any man to be that gorgeous.

Yes, Ricardo McPirateson, mainly because I couldn't remember either his "real" or assumed last name in Pasion. And also, because the other characters will assume he's Scottish. They'll never suspect his true identity!

As for the expired milk, the only issue I can think of is that if it's that far past its expiration date, there's probably a reason it never got used or sold in a timely manner. Like maybe it was contaminated.

It seems that nobody in the US wanted to buy it, even as a feed additive for livestock. Maybe they knew something that Anibal didn't. Maybe they knew that the place it came from sustained damage in a well-publicized flood, for example.

If stored properly, I'm sure powdered milk is safe to use for a very long time, but Anibal doesn't know (or apparently care) how it was stored.

The milk could have gotten wet in the warehouse during floods, for example, perhaps meaning a risk of fungal or bacterial contamination as a result. Or the warehouse itself got moldy, which could affect the integrity of the milk.

If the warehouse was infested with rats, that's a hazard. If it was exposed to pesticides during fumigation, that would be an additional hazard.

An honest business would destroy the milk if they thought it was contaminated, but if the person they hired to dispose of it wasn't honest, it would make its way into the food supply. He might have to sit on it for a while (also unsanitary), waiting for some desperate greedy sucker to take it without asking questions.

But three years seems like a really long time for expired milk to be around. The stuff already has quite a long shelf life BEFORE its expiration date. What the heck happened to this milk? (I was hoping I could watch this show without a beanie... I was wrong.)

Thanks for the entertaining recap. Some good laughs to start my day.

Things are really moving now,,,I was beginning to wonder at the beginning, it was taking forever for anything to happen.

Things are making more sense to me too, than FELS, and better production values overall. The music seems to fit better, with better transitions, and without distracting so much from the scenes. Dramatic without being over-the-top cheese.

I'm getting hooked in! I'm enjoying everyone's recaps and comments even though ususally I'm reading too late in the day to say so in a posting!

How long will we have to wait for Fernanda to find the medallion in the loft, thus realizing that Lili is telling the truth??? Barbinator is doing her best to keep her away from there...

I'm really squirming and suffering with our poor Jacinto, it's hard to take. We need that horse trampling pronto.

When the kids went off to school, they were about 12 to 14 years of age. They are away for 15 years which makes them about 29 years old. What schooling did they get that they graduated at that age. Also Barbara was an adult when they were kids. Fifteen years later, she looks no different and hasen't aged. Besides that she is now looking the same age as her step daughter???? Ret

Julie: I know that we thought through all that could be wrong with the expired powdered milk product. Question is: did the writers? ; ? ) We can come up with all sorts of interesting ideas about contraband powdered milk (my favorite being Melamine substitution) but all they give us is "expired". Unless they use one of the reasons you listed I am going to have to adjust my beanie too!

We do have to give the novela some latitude. I'm sure they have a limited budget, with only 200 episodes, it's not like a multimillion $ movie, so we have to use our imaginations. Isn't that soap?
And besides we get to look at FC, 20, 30, 70 so what?

Thanks again, guys. Glad to see that I wasn't the only one who was confused with all the plot points. It's almost like plot point overload. Not that I'm complaining this time around. Better than the sensory deprevation we suffered through in FELS any day.

Personally, I hope we don't have to watch Lili struggle in the nuthouse for the entire novela. Friday night's scenes were difficult enough to get through. I can't imagine 150 episodios of bedlam and abuse.
===========

Molly/Susanlynn: I think we've been jipped. Eduardo got the mud cleaned up and changed his clothes but we didn't get to see it. I was actually looking forward to it. Bummer. I guess tight jeans and sweaters that mold themselves to his very special curves are the best we can hope for right now.

For those of you that are in serious need of FC (without a shirt)check out the latest TVyNovelas magazine. They have two (2) pages of FC working out (without a shirt of course). Believe me he doesn't need any padding for that black tshirt.

Recappers, keep up the great work. I especially liked the name for Anibal. I will never forget his name again.

Great recap, Jardinera and I love your new photo. The Annibal/Priscilla visit to the doctor scene sounded really icky; I think my family forgot to record this while I was down in Charlotte but perhaps that's for the best. Because the scene with Lili sounded very painful as well. And those lash scars on Jacinto's back, ohmygawd. I don't need a beanie but my wuss factor is coming to the fore again. Will have to toughen up to see my way through all this ugliness. I'm going to need a whole lot more of Eduardo and a whole lot less of those Elizonde folks to watch this regularly.

JudyB: Here's the youtube link to at least watch without CC. Jacinto used a little Chipmunk dialect at times, but the rest was pretty intelligible. It's numbered MEPS cap. 15. You can FF through anything that FC isn't in.

Thanks Jardinera for the recap. I fell asleep and slept through the whole darn thing. It doesn't sound like I missed anything though. Poor Lili. I really feel sorry for her. What would be a fitting end for for BOW Barbie?

Good news! Storm does not have kidney failure. Woo hoo.

Jardinera, a sterling, funny recap. Fresh Jugs, Nurse Fanny, to be sure. Oh well, the colon-rectal surgeon here in our building is Dr. Butts.

I'm betting that Pris indeed gets pregnant but not by Anibal. A woman that frisky can't be held back for long.

Connie, I'm so happy for you and Storm. Bonnie Belle has just 10 more days of incarceration and her freedom can't come too soon for any off us. She is really starting to feel her oats.

Carlos

Thanks Carlos. I'm so glad Bonnie Belle is doing so well. I was doing some stuff in the basement on Saturday and I heard what sounded like a herd of elephants stomping through the house. I got upstairs just in time to see Rain running full speed with her rope in her mouth with Storm in hot pursuit! They were starting outside and running through the main floor then going upstairs and turning around and coming back down. It really was kind of funny!

My point was that Anibal hasn't thought through all the reasons why no one had used up that old milk yet.

Thanks to his total lack of inquisitiveness, it has never occurred to him that there's probably something much more wrong with the milk than merely being expired. Of course the seller isn't going to tell him that it sat in a moldy warehouse for a year, or whatever! "Expired" sounds much more benign!

If they're lucky, a problem will be discovered when they try to use the milk to fill their orders, and then they won't be able to fill the orders, which will be very bad for business.

If they're not so lucky, people will get sick, which will be a lot worse for business.

I'm glad to hear some good doggie news!

I can't think of a fitting end for Babs yet, but that's because she doesn't seem to care about anything.

There must be some secret thing that motivates her and keeps her going, because 15 years living with a family you hate doesn't seem like a very rewarding pursuit. Even if it's fun to mess with them and make them miserable, she doesn't really have much of a life of her own.

She must be expecting some kind of reward from what's-his-face, but what? It can't just be money, because obviously she doesn't mind seducing some old rich guy. She could have done that on her own and been a rich widow three times by now.

I was thinking along that line too Julie. Why did it take her 15 years to begin getting her revenge? Maybe it was like a puzzle and all the pieces are finally in place for the big revenge.

Yeah, the plot has just as many holes in it as the typical TN. 15 years in a one woman sleeper cell seems like a long time for either her, or Cigarman to wait for the destuction of this family. What on earth could be her motivation in this plot. If it were money, she's already accomplished inserting herself completely into the corporation and family wealth- she in effect she's already stolen that. The powdered milk thing is intended to bring down the corporation, isn't it? That's what I've thought all along, and that the family members were simply dupes in the plot.Riuning the corporation is counterproductive if they intend to raid the family's wealth; so it's all kind of confusing to me. Probably not the best to ponder these plots too much, it's just that they are so lame, one can't help but wonder what's up. Maybe it's just me...

DD, adjust your beanie. The nuclear waste is getting through. I think poisoned tequilla is much more interesting than poison milk.

Thanks, Jardinera, for a very entertaining recap.

One would think that after being married to Barb for 15 years, Gonzo would have a clue as to whether she's telling the truth or acting. They sleep together (in the same bed, anyway), they work together, and he still has no idea that she's evil as the day is long.

I'm also impressed with how big everything is in this show, from the stables, the storeroom, to the verrrry long distance one has to walk or drive to get from Soledad's to the "Big House", which as we know, in English is often used as a slang word for prison.

Of course, I know that "casa grande" can also mean "great house", but I'm thinking the main house is like a prison, at least for some of the characters.

Thank you Jardinera, you are hilarious.
Right-right-right, bankrupting the company may not be the ultimate goal. Sending the family to jail would be more in line with Barb's reputation as a torturer.
I don't want Edwardo sleeping in a barn. Even if he breaks Lili out she and he deserve a better hideout. What's the town hotels look like?

Dorado Dave, I agree. If they are going off track in the logic department, we need some levity (not Quintina) along with it as in....FELS. It was overblown, silly, exasperating but in the long run fun.

So far, contraband milk and fertility clinics aren't too exciting. Eddie needs to clean up and start his plan for revenge and winning over his Nanda. I want more evil from our wimpy Damien as well and maybe one clue as to why the Barbinator is like an evil robot on a mission...a long mission...decades long mission. And so far, Lili is my fav character. GinCA

YES, that horse barn looks like the family has been mega rich for a long time so how come they are just now thinking of building a community center! But back to the plot...Julie I'm with you. "...just show up and introduce himself as Ricardo MacPirateson". He could be the handyman fighting off Priss, doing a horse-whispering to send Camillo over that cliff, ...and I think I will kill Barbara myself if she lays a hand or anything else on Edwardo.

One question- are FELS beanies effective against the dangers from watching MEPS?

I think we are all due for a Beanie upgrade. I think Abuelo P had a line on the newest version.

I'm sure there's some explanation(plausible or not) for the delay in Babs completion of her mission. At the beginning it appeared that she was a well-trained assassin(remember the black leather outfit, the expert pistol shooting, and the motorcycle?). Now she has turned into an hausfrau(albeit cunning and treacherous). Let's hope that Eddie doesn't dither around in implementing his revenge and that it involves something a little more violent than outdated powdered milk.

Carlos

By the way, who has THE BOX now? Did the guy down the hall keep it or did Lili take it back and hide it? I can't remember.

I've been racking my brain trying to place the actress who plays Priscilla! I know those eyes and lips, but the hair threw me! It is Ivonne, the amorous secretary to Cesar Luis Farrell in Juan Querendon!

Should also have recognized the cleavage, but as Dona Elizarde, she doesn't dress quite as trashy as did Ivonne.

Great actress!

p.s.

The old guy in the crazy house who aids Lili was also the judge at Blanca Silva's trial for murder of Silvana San Ramon.

Connie, The last thing I remember seeing is Ciro hiding the box in his room while they made Lili leave for more drugging. So I think he still has it which gives him a chance to get word to Eduardo at some point. I doubt if the writiers will let that happen too soon.

Oh and I am also glad to hear your doggy is not fatally ill and hopefully is on the mend. The sub-string of dog lives on this blog is so dear. And to add Willa's bit, she is looking very elegant in her new spring shearing, about half the dog she was last week but then it turned cold again this weekend but it is a bonus for me since she likes to snuggle more than usual. Latest tricks: she can now jump on the screen door handle and open it to escape and when I offered her a chew strip instead of a biscuit when I was going out the other night, she backed up a step, I swear she shook her head no, and waited for me to get the proper cookie as promised.

Hi RiberaJoe, Yes, Priscilla is Arleth Terán who played our prowed and proud Ivonne in Juan Q. She does look sexy in her teddy before putting on the mandarin collared garb. I hope we are right that she will find some way to have fun inspite of her dud of a husband.

Thanks Cheryl. I was very relieved. Stormy is too young to die (only 6). I bet Willa is just stunning in her new "do." Maybe we should let the dogs write the Telenovelas. Hmmmm....Maybe we should have a story only staring animals including Capricho of course. He would be the star as far as I'm concerned.

CONNIE~~~Glad your pup got a good report. Carlos~~~Dr. Butts ....hmmm... is that for real ?

Was his first name Seymour? Ha :-)

!LISTEN UP!
it looks like Gabriela & Padre Tadeo are on Cristina tonight.

Thanks for the info. I'll be sure to get my dvr ready. I still haven't watched the other one.

Thanks, Variopinta. I'm dying to see what Padre Tadeo's hairline will look like. GinCA

Carlos: LOL! You have to wondeer what was going through El Señor Medico Butts' mind when he chose his specialty. Anyway, thanks for the much needed belly-laugh!
-----------

The old male cat I had to put down last summer would terrorize "errant" dogs. Didn't matter the size. All it took was once for a dog to "trespass." They never made the same mistake twice. I love dogs as much as the next person, but this cat had a way of making them "heel" like nobody's business.

Just wanted to remember my manners by saying "Welcome" to riberajoe, Abuelo P, jane, and bonnie churros this time around. You're the newest to my Friday night fright site, so glad you joined the fray.
----------
Julie: Love the way you reason through these things --in fact, I think you and the rest of this gang have better thought out storylines than Telerisa's writing staff does. ¿ ; ? ) You all should be making the big bucks instead!

I found u all at last...... I went to Pratie Place and asked Melina if she knew where i could find translation... the last one i was involved in was "Alborado" i could not get into Pasion... this new one looks pretty good now so i am once again excited to find you all.........jardinera
thanks for the recaps....
