MEPS, Thursday, April 30, 2009, Cap. 53 – The Flashback Chapter – I’ll See You in My Dreams

Happy Thursday, everybody. I’m getting this up real quick because I won’t have time to do it tomorrow. Someone, please post this to the sidebar.

Once again, Cuidado has run over past 8:00 p.m., and MEPS starts at 8:04 p.m.

Flashback to yesterday: Franco sets a trap for Camilo, and he is ready for Barbara.

Fernanda invites Damian to go on their honeymoon. When they get back she’ll meet with the architect who will design the cultural center. She’s ready to begin their life together. He was ready to run out the door and get on a plane. Then he remembers the $3 million that Barb waved in front of him.

Jacinto fills Camilo in on some good dirt from Las Animas. Liver Lips Camilo thanks him and set out on horseback for Las Animas.

At the track Barb and Franco continue their game of poker. Not really. It’s a game that Barb has engineered to get Franco to put up $3 million right away to save Grupo Lactos. She’s told him how much she’s suffered at the hands of Gonzo and his miserable children. It’s not that easy, he says. But, it’s me, a desperate woman who’s trying to save her family. Franco offers her a hankie. (I hope it’s not embroidered with an “E”.) He asks her to stop crying. But, can you help me? Yes, or no? Cut to the cantina.

Jairo talks to Artemio’s henchman and makes a deal. Jairo wants to send Franco to Hell.

Franco says that his reply depends upon herself. He says it’s going to take more time to get $3 million. She says they’ll have to declare bankruptcy and her marriage is dead. At least, she says, tell me your intent. He says 24 hours isn’t enough time. Gonzo and Anibal didn’t want to tell him the truth. But, she’s appealing to his good heart. He won’t be sorry if he gets it to her within 24 hours.

At Las Animas. Camilo, the Jerk, is waiting impatiently for Jacinto who had to bicycle up the hill. Jacinto opens the door to Franco’s hacienda. Gardenia comes out to help him. What’s up – I thought no one was in the house. Gardenia doesn’t want to let him in – she’s the chief guard dog. Camilo throws her out, and he and Jacinto go in. Jacinto leads Camilo to Franco’s office and curses Gardenia.

Barb insists that this isn’t how she usually does business. She asks if his plan to do business with them has gone up in smoke. He says, you’re wrong Barbara. I’m going to do the impossible and come up with the money within 24 hours.

Gardenia is having a fit because she can’t get in the house.

Barb asks him if he’s serious and that she’s not dreaming. She kisses him. Franco is clearly moved. Like he’s moved to put her in her place but is a model of self-control.

Jacinto and Camilo tear up the office. Jacinto keeps trying to put the papers back in order that Camilo is throwing around. Finally Camilo comes across a folder. He’s found what he’s looking for and laughs his little dog laugh. Now he will know who Franco Santoro really is.

Franco, says Barb, you don’t know how much you are doing – saving the company, my husband and my family. Anibal has worked at this a lot – she doesn’t want to seem like an opportunist. Of course not, says he. She wants to pay him back somehow. She just returns the hankie to him. Editor: She’s promised $3million to Damian and now she wants $3million from Franco. Is this a coincidence or a shell game? Judge for yourself.

Jacinto and Camilo talk about what happened in the office. Camilo won’t tell him what he found and tells Jacinto that too bad for him. It’s his problem. Gardenia lets him have it too.

On the phone with Steve, Franco tells him that he needs $3 million sent to Mexico as soon as possible. Wish I had a friend like Steve.

At the hacienda Fernando flashes back to the day she saw Ed’s name on the crypt, the day that Liliana had a meltdown at home, and that she can’t take it anymore.

Barb reports to Gonzo that she’s brought it home – Santoro will deliver. He doesn’t like that she went behind his back – same old story. She did it for the family. She doesn’t want him to say anything to Anibal. She wants him to get all the credit. She reports to Anibal that Franco is now communicating with the directors of Power Milk and that Franco wants to seal the deal with him. Gonzo doesn’t want her to meet with Franco alone again. BitchWitch sits on Gonzo’s lap and kisses him. She can’t stand it, and neither can I.

At Las Animas, Franco arrives home to Gardenia’s report about what happened there today. He begs her to leave him alone. He wonders where he’s going to get $3 million.

Camilo tells Anibal that he’s found out why Franco came to Mexico – to see Erika??? Anibal has a fit that Camilo went through Santoro’s office. He calls him the usual Elizalde names – stupid, stupid, stupid. I couldn’t read the message –sorry, my screen is too small.

Anibal and Camilo continue discussing that Franco came to find his beloved Erika. He thinks Franco is planning to marry Erika. Camilo promises to behave himself. He’s going to watch Franco. Anibal warns him not to return to Franco’s house without consulting him. Camilo salutes and leaves laughing.

Erika’s folks have returned from Spain and are telling her what they saw. Daddy says shopping in Paris was the most interesting thing mommy did. Dolly wants him to call her Dolores. Erika tells them about Fernanda’s wedding – she flashes back to Camilo pushing her down. She tells them Camilo is past history and that Franco is her new man. Mom wants to know how she met him – at Fer’s wedding. What?

Franco flashes back to Barb’s plea to him and the lies she told him and that with the fall of Grupo Lactos something bad will happen to Fer’s husband. Ed says, I love you, Fernanda.

Erika continues bubbling over about Franco. Dad wants to know how serious it is. Erika say’s I’m in love with him. They toast and she says something that gives pause to her parents.

Barb enters Fer’s bedroom with papers about Lili’s commitment. Fer had been looking on the internet about the place – Fer says she agrees because it’s such a good place. Barb is all ready to send Lili off. Barb says Lili is sick, but she can be cured there. Fer agrees and kisses her. Once again, Barb is disgusted. So where is the money coming from to send Lili to a high end manicomio in Berlin?

At Pueblo Purification, Aurora is paying the price for calling off the wedding. Dominga is beating the S—t out of her. Dominga opens her cabinet, pulls out a garment and finds money and tells Aurora to shut up. She’s going out on the town. Aurora asks Santiago to forgive her, but he isn’t there. She’s talking to the walls. She flashes back to Santi asking her about her refusal and that he doesn’t understand her. She repeats about how she told him that they are from such different worlds and that their marriage would be a disaster. Knowing him has been great – a most precious memory. He keeps trying to get through to her – he has touched glory. But, now nothing is funny.

At the Elizalde’s, Fernanda is still playing on the computer and dreaming at the same time. She remembers talking to Fr. Bosco. She brings Father to tears about her tale of Ed. Meanwhile Ed is dreaming while she dreams. He’s going into her room. Shirtless, he touches her hair while candles burn. He kisses her forehead, and she wakes up and smiles at him and calls him, my love. He tells her he loves her so much, and they kiss. This is the moment we have been waiting for. He’s been waiting for it all his life. We hear the theme song as they continue kissing and caressing. She says she needs him near her. He says this is the most beautiful moment of his life. We are left to drool as the two topless lovers get it on – in their dreams.

Barb is at the manicomio talking to Dr. Obregon. He says transferring Lili to Berlin is going to be very traumatic because she’s been there for 15 years. He wants to know who authorized this. She is going to bring the papers. He tries to warn her. She says shut up, insect. You’re not even a psychiatrist and you better start looking for work because when Lili leaves, you’re out of a job.

Margarita and Fer chat about the community center. Fer gives Marg a copy of the plans and specs for the project. And, tells her about the cheese festival. Silvestre wakes up and starts shouting for his daughter. He’s not wearing his glasses and is walking into the walls. He wants to go to Franco Santoro’s house – isn’t that what he’s called. Marg and Fer give each other a nod.

At the unhappy house, Las Animas, Gardenia is nagging Jacinto about the evil deeds of Camilo at the hacienda. She says that Camilo can come and go and treat you like a dog. Suddenly, Franco enters. Gardenia wants to tell him what Jacinto did yesterday. Franco calls Jacinto out to talk to him. That’s it, says Gardenia. I’ve had it.

Martina is brushing Lili’s hair when Dr. O knocks and tells her that Barb is in his office and that the Elizalde’s have decided to ship Lili overseas.

Avances: Barb wants Lili ready to leave – Dr. O burns records. Is Ed caught at identity theft?

Wow, another quick recap. Thanks Pasofino! MEPS went long and finished late as well. This time my tape turned off, but didn't matter as I was watching. I missed the first part, so caught that and also went to see what was in the telegram that Cad found.

Couldn't quite see the name on who sent it. Addressed to Franco... Was asking Franco how things were going down in Mexico. Have you found that rich, rich, perfect girl yet? Let me know when that happens so that we can schedule the wedding!!!

So, it looks like Franco went to Mexico to find a rich women to marry!!

JeffMN

Jeff: Thanks about the letter. I coldn't figure it out.

Boy, Eddie/Fr has so many balls in the air, I'm afraid one will fall to the ground and then all of them will. He is certainly a busy boy.

I can't figure out the money part. Before tonight, I thought he didn't have any money and this was all a charade. Then, it sounded like he was asking Steve for the money to be sent to him. Then, later it sounded like he was asking himself where he was going to find $3 Million. I wonder what he plans to do with it, if he gets it. He surely won't give it to La Hiena. Will he give it to Fernanda, which might also prevent her from leaving on her honeymoon? Hmmmm... the plot thickens.

Or, maybe he'll really (in real life) talk Steve/Power Milk into selling Luctos good milk to replace the spoiled milk and save the day without money?? Would that pass customs? But, he still doesn't know about the spoiled milk, does he??

The writers are doing a good job of leaving us twisting in the wind.

I wonder what the private detective is doing flashing a badge in Eddie's face... hmmm, more to anticipate.

Pasofino you are incredibly fast, and the quality of the recap is great, you just posted while I was reading the comments for yesterday's one.

I think Babs did a great work in convincing Eduardo to get the money for her, he was truly interested in helping, thanks to the Fernanda mentions, of course, I don't think Barbs was aware of that, but still she did it.

I have a love-hate thing for Aurora, she annoys me to no end, not because I think she is evil or anything, I just think she is stupid, but I felt for her this episode, as great as Santiango has been to her, they only knew each other for a week, getting married so fast was crazy, and she is now back with Dominga, who is just a horrible person.

The Fernanda/Eduardo dream scene looked pretty, I know for a fact that the writers put it in there because the fans were complaining the novela lacked romance, and using the subconsious of our characteres was a smart way of giving them what they wanted without messing the plot, I still need more interactions in real life (well, their real life) to get more invested in them. Also, this must be the tamest love scene I have seen Silvia in since "Perla", back when she was 18.

By the way, Juanita and Hombre, you were discussing how classic music and Opera is often used in telenovelas for the scenes with the bad guys, wich it's true in many cases, but there are notable exceptions: In "Alguna Vez Tendremos Alas" from the excelent producer Florinda Meza (one of our best), the male lead was a master of orchestra, and his music had a great importance in the novela, a couple of years earlier, also from Florinda, The main character of "La Dueña", Regina (the best character Angelica Rivera has ever played) used to listen to classical music, and in her free time she played the sax to relieve her tension.

In "Cañaveral de Pasiones" (my favorite novela) the godfather of Julia, the main lead (Daniela Castro) used to listen to the opera, he was a good guy, also, he actually was middle class, wich was nice, since the novela was shot in the Coatepec-Xalapa area of Veracruz, were classical music is very popular, you even get to hear it while you ride the bus.

Here are the openings of these novelas if you ever want to check them out:

Thanks, Pasofina , for that very fina recap. Fr.ed cannot catch a break. My favorite scene was Fr.ed throwing the hanky into the trashcan as if he were spiking a football into the turf because of the Babs cooties on it. It reminded me of a show I saw where someone was carrying around a dainty little lady's hanky as a keepsake from his onetruelove. He kept it tucked inside his shirt until it was a bloody , dirty scrap of cloth. Was it Adolfo Solis in Amor Real ???? And ..wow, ''Esteve , could you , please, send 43mil to Mexico right away?'' I agree, it would be nice to have a friend like Esteve.

The FrED Fern scene was a disappointment .. so stiff and awkward. Not the usual good Colunga stuff, but the bod shots were welcome anyway.

Basta ya Meester James, Quintana and Aurora. We know the Bab's daughter storyline will play out at some point but pulease, one minute a week with those three is plenty enough.

My fervent plea to the producers is that when Franco becomes Eduardo once again, he will be allowed to grow the hair.

Just a thought~~~if that was Eduardo's dream, wouldn't it have been a lot more graphic and explicit ???? I'm just saying. That love scene was very PG romance. I agree that we need some interaction between the two leads. This novela is just doom and gloom right now. When will The Love Boat pull into the port ???? And, last night, I think that I finally figured out what is so off about Cad's looks...besides his complexion matching the color of a basketball. His nose is very tiny...as if he had a nose job and the doctor chopped off a little too much. His nose is tinier than any of the noses of the actresses. I'm just saying... I prefer a nice , strong nose .

Thank you, Pasofina.

Erika left her parents impactada I believe by saying she was going to marry Franco Santoro.

Cad said he was going to apologize to Erika and cultivate a close friendship through which he would learn everything that Franco does and says, even to how many glasses of water he drinks per day. Erika is so stupid, she will probably unwittingly fulfill this request. Yeah, she wants Franco, who wouldn't, but she is still into "showing" Cad what he's lost and getting under his orange skin. Luckily Franco knows how pitiful she is and will only let her see what he wants her to. I wish he would put an end to the novio farce: it's unecessary and it's hurtful to poor Erorika. She needs to go to Candy's Instituto on LTNVAC pronto!

But aaaaaahhhh! The dream. Thank you writer dudes for giving us some milky white silk and satin to modestly drape around our feverish fronts as we firmly pressed into the ripped muscle and firm.. .um, embrace of our Eduardo. Thank you for the breathless kisses and the . . .

Khalilah

Thanks Pasofino...I'm looking forward to watching my tape now that I know there's a dream scene there. "Cooties"...ay yi yi, Susanlynn, you've taken me back to l953. A very good year. But I agree...Eduardo's dream should have been a little more juicy. But wait!...he's a virgin just like Fernanda right? Maybe he doesn't know how things work. HAH!
Seriously, there was a case back in the fifties, where a young married couple (raised very conservatively) consulted a fertility expert when they failed to conceive. Turns out they thought just prolonged horizontal hugging would do the trick. I know...hard to believe. Guess they didn't grow up on farms like our folks. I remember my mother telling me their first experiences as a married couple were very awkward because neither one knew what they were doing. A sense of humor is essential for a good sex life, was her advice.

Thanks for the recap, Pasofino, and well done.

There I was, thinking, "Oh Barb, he's just not that into you," when Ed up and says he would give the $3m. What on earth??? What is his motive here? I am so confused. Must tighten my beanie hat.

I hope Camilo's punishment will include having to ride a bicycle everywhere he goes, for the rest of his life.

JeffMN - thanks for the translation on the telegram. I could not see enough of it to even read it.

I thought the gratuitous love scene at the end was rather 'meh.' NOT due to the lack of lust (not into those R rated ones), but it just lacked chemistry, IMO.

Thanks for the recap Pasofino. I've about had it with Erika. Seriously, you made this all up! It's not real. She's the one that is stupid, stupid, stupid and is going to end up getting hurt some more.

Cadmilho is such a pig. I just want to scream every time he is on.

I felt sorry for Gardenia. I wish someone would let her in on the BIG SECRET. I bet she would love to help.

How do you post a wav file? I've have a video of what I would like to happen to Cadmilho but I can't figure out how to post it. Thanks.

I could not comprendo what Camilo was saying about Fr/Ed even with the captions except that it involved Erika, tks for clearing that up.

The letter was in inglés, maybe from Esteve. Esteve is coming to Mexico, that s/b interesante.

For a momento, I thought Fr/ed was going the way of Vladamir & get shit faced, maybe he did.

I think Erika told her family that she was going to marry Fr/Ed. Maybe she & Fr/ed cooked up this farce, but Erika seems smitten. I still think Erika is going to end up with Santiago, hopefully she'll send him to a hair stylist.

I think Fr/Ed has another ally in Dr. O, since La Hiena is getting rid of him. I noticed 3 certificates on the wall behind his desk, one with his picture.

Tks so much for the great recap.

Fr/Ed said he wondered where he/she? would "sacar" 3 mil. If he meant get 3 mil, wouldn't that be obtener o adquirir. Do you think he meant "I wonder where she (Babs) is going to take 3 mil?

I have problems with sacar, it seems to have opposite meanings.

I too think the 3M is meant to discourage Pow where Meelk from investing. Barb was however having fun with this task. Franco forks over and more for me and use it as evidence to indite(sp?) Damian. Franco doesn't fork over and the company goes belly up anyway. What I think tips the scale toward EdFr forking over is because she mentions money needed for Fern's special project. Wish she hadn't said that.

That handkerchief was played like a witches' talisman. Her look of surprise when he easily handed over 'a personal item' planted that thought in my mind. Then the rest of the time everything she did with The Object was to me so filled with meaning. SO glad when EdFr got rid of it!

What deviant thinking was Cad and Ani processing? How on earth can they think that Erika's engagement with Franco will profit them?!

What I want to know is why Cadmilho thinks Erika would go back to him after he punched her in the face? If the scum sucking dog punched me in the face I'd wait for him to go to bed and then break his knees with a baseball bat and get the hell out of Dodge.

Did Cad say to Ani that it was too bad their sister is married now because having her marry Franco would solve all their problems for life?

Thank you Pasofino. I depend on you.

Thank you Jarocha for the classical music in telenovelas links.
The first reason I paused on a Spanish channel was the voice of Placido Domingo and it turned out to be at the theme song for Alborada.

Variopinto: "Sacar" can also mean to get or to take or take out from. In this case, "Where can I get it from?"

Thanks, Pasofino, for the instant, and fine recap. How do you do it so quickly?

Franco and the money- that really surprises and puzzles me. In the phone conversation, he sez to Esteve, "Necesito 3M que vengas a Mexico lo mas pronto posible" or something like that. Infers to me that Esteve is to bring the Money himself, or can "venir" means to send/deliver in addition to come/arrive? Help here, please.

The Cad scene tearing up the office, stealing the letter, and laughing at Jacinto because of the problem that he has caused him, shows him to be completely w/o redmption. Truly an asshat. I'm not exactly sure what to make of the letter, I think it just shows thta Franco came to Mexico fito find and marry a rich girl, but how is this inciminating?

It appears that Franco's true identity will out now, to defend himself against ID theft. Is it a crime (anywhere) to assume an ID w/o having committed another crime? And what is gumshoes doing making an arrest, as it appears he is doing in the avances?

I hope that Franco can spring Lili from the looney bin before all that befalls him. I'm thinking that Dr. O is intrumental in it, and will end up paying for it. Foolish of Babs to tell him that he's soon to be out of a job.

Thanks for another enjoyable and lively recap, Pasofino. My favorite scene of the evening was Camilo's ransacking of Eddie's office with Jacy scurrying behind him with the focus of an obsessive-compulsive trying to straighten up. I was laughing out loud. There really needs to be an handsome payoff for Jacinto for all that he has to put up with.

Carlos

Almost forgot- my Gardenia said it again. "Soy la mera mera petetera", at the door just before cadd pulled her outside. The other day, I thought she said "picatera'. Does this make sense to anyone?

I am confused. What was Fr.ed's purpose in planting that letter for Cad to fnd ? Why did he want Cad to think that Franco is in Mexico to find a rich novia ? And, also, why is Fr'ed going to give Babs the 3 mil ????

Thanks Pasofino for your recap. Also thanks to Melissa, I'm praying all goes well for you, and Cheryl.

I'm glad others are as intrigued (and unclear) about how Fr/Ed is going to get this money and if he is really going to get it from Steve.

I too hope Jacinto gets a great pay off in this novela. He has to be the most put upon character on the show.

It will be interesting to see if Dr. O does join team Fr/Ed now that Barbie's going to sack him.

I paused on the letter to try and get a better read. The way it was being held you couldn't see clearly who it was from, but it didn't look like Steve to me. I was kind of hoping it would have been from Eduardo. Now that would have been something to plant, that Franco and Eduardo know each other!

Okay, the dream was tame, but if those are the kind of dreams he is having, he is going to combust at some point! And I can't believe that a hotty like that could live in the States for 15 years and stay a virgin! I kind of liked that is was mostly tame because it represents his image of their love. Very sweet. But not so much chemistry this first time around.

Pasofino, Thanks for the rapid and thorough recap. Even though I understand what I hear, I have reached that point in my life where a review is a great idea to keep track of the details and this show really is packing in the details with every episode.

I love the puzzles that writers have planted in this story. Barbara seems to be hoping Franco will reject the idea of the $3 mill both so she can carry on the ruination of the company faster but also to flush out his real motivation. She is one of the few thinkers in this show, and I imagine she can't quite believe that this stranger wants to invest in this shaky company and doesn't know what bad shape they are in if he had done his homework.

There was some breaks in the logic between Franco asking Steve for the money and then trying to decide where he wiil get it from. I thought Barbi was teasing his interest in philanthropy by saying Fernanda's community center won't be built. That center would cost a whole lot more than $3mill. She does have a 6th sense for people's soft spots

Dave, I'm not sure Gardenia's little rhyme makes much sense but my professor who is a poet from Chihuahua has said the Mexican people love little rhymes and ditties which flavor conversation.

I find Camilo a well defined villain, he is so repulsive on so many levels, let's hope it is good acting, poor guy. He is amazingly arrogant in thinking he can get close to Erika to spy on Franco. Unless Erika is a lot more neurotic than I imagined, how could she be involved with such an abuser?

I wonder if Cad will tell Errika about the note? If he does, that may get her hopes up even more. She would have to think she fits the bill.

I can't understand why Fr/Ed would let Cad go through the place like that. He has hidden things Eduardo there, so to me, not a bright idea.
And the 3 million? I don't believe he decided to do it to help out Nanda. He is talking to la hiena after all.

Talking to Barb, $3 million. Tossing the handkerchief, priceless!

JeffMN

Dorado Dave...as I understand it, Gardenia saying she's the "mera mera petadera" when Franco is not around, simply means she's "the big cheese", "head honcho" whatever when he's not there. So if she's in charge, Jacinto has no business letting Cadmillo in (except of course that Franco wanted that to happen and our poor little Gardenia still isn't in on the plans)

Quite often you can just say "la mera mera" as in" se cree la mera mera" to mean she thinks she's really important, hot stuff etc.

I don't think Fr/Ed is committing identity theft. All he's doing is using a different name. He's not using the real Santoro's credit cards or bank accounts, etc. He probably doesn't even know the real Santoro's date of birth, since he got the name from a business card he found.

Actually, given Gardenia's splendid assets, we might translate that as, "when Franco Santoro's not here, I'm 'large and in charge'.."

Pasofino, thank you for the excellent recap. "Franco offers her a hankie. (I hope it’s not embroidered with an “E”.)" You know, I thought the same thing! Loved the hankie toss...

As others have pointed out, some of last night's events (particularly regarding the money) contradicted each other.

Does the note indicate Fr/Ed is a fortune seeker or simply trying to find someone to become a power couple and add to his wealth (if he had any that is)?

The fantasy scenes between Fer and Fr/Ed seemed completely unemotionless. I hope they are able to spark more chemistry the next(hopefully, real)time.

So is Damian leaving? Is Barb leaving? Is Lili leaving? Sigh...

Diana in MA (totally confused at this point)

The dream scene. That's just to whet our appetites. They're holding back the good stuff until later in the show. You don't want to shoot the wad too early.

The hanky. Barb was crying to evoke Fr/Ed's pity, compassion, concern. She wanted him to say, "No, don't cry, I'll take care of you." Instead, he said, "Here's a hanky." Comparable to a guy who says, "I'm so lonely," and the girl answers, "Get a dog."

With the hankie I think she wanted it to have her scent on it so he would think about what he was missing. I was glad when he slam dunked it into the trash.

Yes, the hanky was definitely supposed to be for later. She rubbed it on all visable skin. I was glad he tossed with such vengence.

whoops...sorry...misspelled...mera mera petatera with a "t" (or el mero mero petatero...yes, means I'm in charge, I'm the head honcho.*
*Streetwise Spanish Dictionary/Thesaurus

Rodrigo in DA would have loved the scented hankie. LOL

JeffMN

Ed used Franco's I.D. card to set up a bank account. This couldn't have been a business card because it had Franco's picture on it which the woman at the bank thought didn't look like Ed. But she succumbed to his charms and approved him. I'm no a law expert but to me that would amount to I.D. theft, even though our Ed doesn't mean any harm to the real Franco. But if somebody else did that they could leave Frano liable for lots of debts.

But the guy in the previews is Artemio's paid employee so he has no legal authority to investigate anything.

I thought the "cop" was a low-life, scumbag, flunkie of Cigar Man.

Thanks for the recap!

I think Erika told her parents that he may just be the one she marries! which led to the gobsmacked look to their faces....

Is it me or did that guy who comes and flashed the ID in te preview look a lot like that guy who's been slurking around for CIGAR MAN to find out who Fr/Ed is? it was too brief but it looked like him.

PS - I liked the rather chaste scene between the leads. Not into the sometimes near soft porn on some of these telenovelas. But...it was very awkward. And cheesy. I've waited for this my whole life!! this is the most beautiful moment of my life!! caray caray!! LOL

Even worse was the cameras cutting back to Fr/Ed rolling around with his pillow in bed. Ye Gads! it was uncomfortable to watch. Had to be worse to be the actor doing it! HA!

glad you explained the phrase of gardenia's. Had no clue what she was saying!! and worse the CC keeps cutting out on me lately and my house is too loud & chaotic to hear well. I was like, what did she say??

well - it's friday now so there should be a mini cliffhanger for us.

PS - I missed Colunga's brown as a berry self. Was nice to see, no?

Finally, finally, I got to see a nice chest shot of FC. I must say it took my breath away! :-P He definitely looked like he could use a good washing. What do you think Molly? Where's Creemelo when you need her?!

I liked the "love scene" because I like to see my galans do amorous things. Paula H., I agree, it was tame because it was a dream, the white pristine sheets, the almost nearly chaste embraces and the distance between them during afterglow. It's a stretch that this guy is a virgin but if that's what they want us to believe, then this is the kind of dream a virgin man has. Come on girls, it was better than the reality with him wearing those goofy dark blue pjs with baby blue cuffs and collar!

Khalilah

I'm not real into the PJ's. Boxers would have been preferable.

Silverfox: I was thinking along the same lines. There are so many twists and turns in this novela that it is hard to keep up with the game.

Jarocho: You are a powerhouse of information. thanks.

Dave: I recap as I watch. This one was a little rough since I only had time to look at it once. I simply cold not make out the letter and Cad's conversation with Jacinto about the letter.

So, thanks to those of you who helped decipher it.

Anon. 2:48: That's what I was tthinking about Artemio's man. he bhadge flash was probably just another tease to please.

Hmmm...Fr.ed wondering how he'd get 3mil after already asking Esteve for it...maybe he was wondering how he would be able to pay Esteve back for the money he asked him to bring ? send ?And about the hero carrying his love's hanky ,,,I think Adolfo Solis did carry Matilde's, but in Braveheart, the hero carried the piece of embroidery his wife brought to their wedding after she was killed. Fr.ed, on the other hand, knew that he never wanted to see his handkerchief again after Babs had rubbed it all over her face...bleccchhh.

Oh Connie, I am always up for a good bath! That was one thing I really wished had been in Alborada. For all the riding they did, a bath scene would have been awesome!

I figured he had his face buried in that pillow to kee from laughing during the shoot. And I much prefer the white T to the PJs if he has to wear anything at all!

Thanks Pasofino! Thanks to one and all for helping fill in the blanks.

Wow, Bow thinks she's worth 3mil. (not even close) She likes toying with people and I liked how Ed/Franco handled her. Considering he hates her, he was able to contain it, while playing the game. I don't get the rationale, but then I remember, there's no rational required for a telenovela...

Fr/Ed found a drivers license or ID card & he used that to open a bnk acct or get a credit card or both, he turned on the charm to the clerk & she did it for him even though he didn't look like the picture. So I guess the real Franco didn't commit murder or anything.

I understood Camilo to tell Anibal, too bad that Fernanda was married, that Franco would be a good catch, match or sth along that line.
Camilo also said sth to Jacinto when he complained about the mess, like too bad & the word was bronca or broca.

I also was unimpressed with the dream love sequence, except of course for Fr/Ed's hot bod. Fr/ed has to have better dreams.

I sure wouldn't think that Fr/ed or Esteve would give 3 mil to Babs & she doesn't want Anibal to know & he's the one that made the connection. Fr/ed knows what a terrible person Babs is. Maybe there will be a confirmation that the money is arriving but we know she isn't going to get her hands on it.

The guy with the badge?, is Artemio's henchman.

Thanks, Pasofino, for the fine recap. It and the comments were very helpful in sorting out things.
Also, thanks for Cheryl for the recap of Wed. epi. Loved the beanielandia name and loved Kalilah's "run, Santiago, run. Let your greasy locks flow...."

Add my vote to those who cheered when Fr/Ed dunked the used hanky in the trash. He was so good with his expressions while Barb was talking. She was reading fascinated attention and we were reading a thought bubble track of "you bitch, you bitchy hyena, you ruined my mother's life and you're going to pay! There's not enough money on earth to make me touch you.."
The quote that actually came to mind was one of Rhett Butler's speeches to Scarlett O'Hara:
"You still think you're the Belle of the county don't you? That you're the cutest little trick in shoe leather and that every man you meet is dying of love for you." That also describes Barbi's entitled attitude with men.
La Paloma

Variopinta...Camilo said "es tu bronca", in this context... "it's your problem" (dealing with the mess in the office)

Loved the recap Pasofino. Sweet dreams are made of this indeed. Eddie was holding that pillow tight in his arms. So that was the trap Eddie set for Camilho that he was after Erika and the poor girl has fallen head over heels in love with him. We know she's headed for hearbreak since Eddie can't return those feelings so hopefully she'll find someone she can love and who'll love her in return. Perhaps Santi since Rory dumped him. I'm thinking the three million that Babs asked Eddie for is for Damian but somehow I don't see him forking over the money to them so then what? I hope Lil snaps out of it before she's shipped to Berlin. Has Eddie's identity theft been discovered? I'm sure Eddie will think of something to squelch the suspicions and get the investigator off his tail. Looking forward to tonight's show.

'''And frankly ,my dear, I don't give a damn.'' And so, like Scarlett, will Babs thought bubble, ''I'll think about it tomorrow.''

It sure seems as if Fr.ed's house of cards is falling. Everything is a big mess. Will Dr.O help Fr.ed and Martina spirit Lili away to Fr'ed's hacienda before Babs has a chance to send her off to Berlin???? Will Dam disappear before the honeymoon ???? Will Fr.ed pay up in monopoly money ??? Will Gumshoe try to make a citizen's arrest of Fr.ed???? Or maybe the guy really is a corrupt cop . Also, Nanda was pretty surprised when Sylvestre wandered out into the livingroom at Marge's and mentionned Franco Santoro.

I have to agree that the love scene dream although sweet lacked something. I was looking for heat, sexual tension, smouldering passion, lust, and it was really tame in comparison to the steamy love scenes in Amor Real, Pasion, and even Alborada. I'm thinking we do need more interaction between the leads to really see the chemistry. They look good together though.

Susanlynn- I had the same though- that gumshoes is a cop on Cigarman's payroll.

Also, we didn't hear Esteve Norton Junior's part of the conversation, that might have been intentionally omitted to cause us to assume some things for a surprise later.

Judyb and Cheryl, thanks for the comments about my Gardenia's diddy. I take it to mean that she's saying "I'm all that". I have to agree. I'm going tp spend a couple mins to research "petetero/a", as I din't have time this morning. I'll try that diccionario that you suggested,,,

Clark Gable was THE sexy man of his day & talk about ears, but the perfect Rhett.

Maybe the dream love scene was blah because the actors just aren't into each other. We'll hope for better things.

Terrific and speedy job, Pasofino! To think I almost slept through Eddie's wet dream and that I might have missed seeing FC's fabulous torso, pecks, biceps, triceps..... AS for the wet dream itself, it was like something only a pubescent pre-teen's imagination could dream up --Oh, yeah. Ed's still a pubescent pre-teen, mentally, isn't he.

Ok. Someone asked about what was said regarding Fernanda during the dinner at the race track. What Barbie also told Fr/Ed at the race track about Nanda in addition to not being able to put up the community center was that without money Grupo Lactos would fold and Damian would start looking for greener professional pastures and of course would take Fer with him. Fr/Ed seemed to say something to himself somewhere along the line that he didn't like the idea of her going off with Dildo Dobbins like that. Maybe that was what tipped things in Barbie's favor then.

Tks JudyB for the bronca explanation.

Dorado Dave...I found it in the glossary under "mera mera" and then it' petAtera, or petAtero

Variopinta...you're welcome. Anytime!

Sorry about that - I'm having trouble posting a coherent comment today.

LOL, I loved this: "Franco offers her a hankie. (I hope it’s not embroidered with an "E".)

Jeff: "He has hidden things Eduardo there, so to me, not a bright idea."

He actually burned all of his Eduardo stuff, except for the passport, so I was worried that Camilo would find the passport. But I guess Eduardo and Jacinto already anticipated that and took precautions.

It was pretty funny watching Gardenia flip out on Camilo and Jacinto, though. It seemed sort of mean not to let her know about Fr/Ed's plan, but I'm sure she would have screwed it up if she'd known what was really going on!

I can't figure out where they're going with that fake telegram, either.

As for the $3 million thing, I think Babs was just trying to set up a win/win where she'd either scare Powhere Meelk off or get the money to pay Damian. (I assume that's the reason why she asked for that specific amount.)

I am dying to see what Damian does - go on the honeymoon or take the money and run - but I think his greed will win out. Actually I bet the whole decision gets further delayed again for some ridiculous reason...

By the way did anyone else see this story where Televisa is putting a moratorium on telenovela kisses because of the flu??

JudyB- if you are still out there- that dictionary/thesarus is only in print, or available online? I googled it, and all I got were booksellers. Was there an actual definition for "petetero/a"? I found it used in context when I googled the word, but cound't figure out its meaning. Thanks...dd

Thanks very much, Pasofino, for the very helpful and amusing recap.

And many thanks, Jarocha, for the info about classical music and opera used in more positive ways in TNs. I'll definitely take a look at the examples you've provided. And yes, Bonnie, I'd forgotten all about Placido Domingo singing on Alborada. Thanks for reminding me.

''nonessential kisses''...love it...thanks for the link, Julie.

,,,so now that leads to the question of exactly what qualifies as ''essential kisses '' !!!!

I guess we'll find out about those kisses in a few months... by that time, hopefully the flu will already have run its course!

Easiest way to get around it is to have all the telenovelas write in subplots about flu epidemics, as an excuse for everyone to wear masks and wave awkwardly from a safe distance. ;-)

Or else we'll see the lovers approach one another with outstretched lips, cut to commercial...

I don't know how much the writers should use the flu for their stories, I think it would be okay for humorous situations, and maybe a mention or two, but most of us are tired of hearing about it everywhere. Not to mention, watching all the people wearing masks at work, or on the street is enough, watching them on TV would be too much.

The article is fun, but the T-shirts with pig-shaped Mexican flags sound offensive, it saddens me a bit, I don't mind the words, but our flag is a national treasure.

Juanita and Bonney, it was actually great for me to remember some of my favorite novelas, it has been a while since I loved one as much as those, I hope you liked the links.

Dorado Dave...I'm here this morning. Mine is a book. And there are quite a few books titled Streetwise Spanish. The one I have which is the best is ISBN 0-8442-2551-7.

Petatero is not listed by itself.
el mero mero
la mera mera =main or most important person, big cheese

el mero mero petatero
la mera mera petatera =the same thing

so "petatero(a) is just an intensifier, a fun rhyming way to emphasize that you're the person in charge.

I can hardly wait to use this phrase with my granddaughter who loves it when I sing to her in French or speak to her in Spanish!

thanks so much, Judy, for the info about the book and the word. I was thinking that the word probably was just a nonsensical intensifier, as you said. You don't sing to la nieta in spanish?

JudyB

Is that expression unique to Mexico?

The book gives it as also being used in Guatemala and El Salvador....oh and I did find Petatero refers to "petates" mats, so orignially it could have meant , I'm the main seller of mats....so morphed into I'm the main cheese, head honcho, whom you have to deal with etc..
So chicano slang in Mexico, also used in Guatemala and El Salvador. punto.

Jarocha, sorry that some Americans are so ignorant that they would use your flag with a pig, let alone try to make money from it. But you know they are not representative of most Americans. Hope this terrible time will end soon.

Your comments are always informative and fun. GinCA

Sorry, shoukd have those in the USA, not Americans, because we are all Americans. Duh. GinCA

JudyB, et al. I was wondering about whether petetero/a might have derived from petate, seems reasonable. I do believe that "mero mero" is +/- unique to Mexico, I've only heard Mexicans use it.
