MEPS Monday June 23 - Free Lily
Fernanda hears Lily’s voice from the past on the tape – “It was Barbara! Barbara killed my mother!”
Margarita gossips with Jacinto, telling him about Flor’s new galan Vladimir. Flor shows up and says Fernanda told her in a couple days she’ll let her know if she was able to do anything about her job. She’s sad though, she says her heart has been broken!
Fernanda listens to the rest of the recording and gets increasingly agitated and upset, rightfully so. On the tape Lily explains that every time her father comes to visit, first they drug her up so she can’t speak. She wants whoever hears this recording to know she isn’t crazy! Fernanda is beside herself, she wants to run home and play this tape for Gonzalo right NOW. Fr/Ed shakes his head no. He looks so surprised that she wants to do this, but come on, it’s the logical thing to do.
Barbara phones Artemio and tells him that Franco and Fernanda are having a secret affair. Artemio says to bring Damian back into the picture so that when Fernanda is having an affair behind his back, Gonzalo will be so upset. This sounds so 7th grade.
Fr/Ed finally convinces Fernanda that someone powerful is behind Barbara and they need to get to that person, so they can’t torpedo Barb with this recording yet. Fern finally, reluctantly, agrees. She also says that Barb is everything to her father, this is going to kill him.
Flor talks through her pain, she feels so stupid for being taken in by Vlad. Gardenia storms in, all heaving breath and sexy, sorry I mean in a huff, she’s beside herself with Las Animas turning into a whorehouse.
Venus shows Martina all the things Esteve has taught her, walking, eating, drinking, sitting, etc. Esteve obviously hasn’t gotten rid of the gum full time yet, she chomps away the whole time. She confesses to being worried about who the person is she is supposed to seduce. I haven’t been keeping up with the recaps, my job is killing me lately, have we all assumed that it’s Camilo? That’s the only thing that comes to mind that makes sense, Venus can seduce him and Fr/Ed and Esteve can use him against his family.
Speaking of (ugh) Camilo, he is laying in bed watching TV while daydreaming about Aurora. He hasn’t seen her be a huge downer in all of her scenes, so he is still swept up in her nice body. I’ve noticed that she has gone to tight jeans now instead of big country skirts. Natasha comes in to try and get him in the mood with some champagne or wine, but he’s not having it. She then suggests pizza, he yells at her that he hates pizza. Basically he just acts like the ass he is and says he has to meet his family and leaves. Why didn’t he just say he had to meet his family in the first place? Natasha cries after he leaves.
Gardenia tells Jacinto and Margarita that she has had enough and is going to quit her job at Las Animas. She thinks Fr/Ed will be so upset when he doesn’t find her there. She is obviously jealous of Esteve paying so much attention to Venus too.
Fr/Ed brings a big bag of cash to Obregon. Obregon says Lily is ready to go. Fr/Ed goes to her room and tells her it’s time to go! Adolfina says goodbye and cries. They slooooooowwwwwwwwwllllllyyyyyyy walk down the hall and Lily stops and knocks on Ciro’s door. She goes into his empty room, Fr/Ed smiles and closes the door to leave her in there. She has an imaginary conversation with Ciro, he tells her to be strong, trust Fr/Ed and Fernanda, she’ll never be lonely again since he’ll always be with her, like a father.
The Elizalde family is all around the dinner table. Fernanda shoots daggers at Barbara with her eyes. Gonzalo announces that he’s distributing his estate now while he’s alive. In her head Fernanda screams “Asesina! Asesina!” at Barbara.
Obregon explains to Fr/Ed that he kept that recording all these years waiting for someone strong enough to take on La Hiena, and Fr/Ed is that person. Fr/Ed won’t shake his hand and basically tells Obregon to get the hell out of here. Obregon takes his “just in case you still didn’t realize I was totally gay” pink suitcase and leaves. Lily is worried and says if she goes home, her father will die. Fr/Ed says she is going somewhere else, somewhere safe, Martina will be with her there all the time. Lily is very happy and excited about this.
Martina walks outside and looks up at the stars, which are white dots on black construction paper, with some super lame special effect shooting starts thrown in. She swoons over Carlos. We see Carlos getting some water from a dispenser, he is daydreaming about Martina and water spills everywhere.
Fernanda’s phone rings, she sees that Fr/Ed is the caller. She sits there and lets it ring while everyone yells at her to answer or turn it off. She finally leaves to answer the call. Fr/Ed tells her he has Lily and invites her to meet them to help Lily settle in. Fern gets the address from him and writes it down. I have a feeling that her writing the address on a piece of paper will have some significance later on, it just seemed like there was a big show of “OK LET ME FIND A PENCIL AND WRITE THIS DOWN.”
Fr/Ed tells Lily that Fernanda is going to meet them, Lily is very happy.
Fernanda grabs her purse from the table and doesn’t know what to say about where she’s going, Tomasa comes in and says Erika called earlier. Fern says oh yeah, I’m going to see her. So, uh, later. Camilo says if Erika needs company she should call her NOVIO FRANCO SANTORO. He gives a meaningful look to Barbara. Anibal yells at Fern that family should come first, but Gonzalo excuses her to go. Barbara immediately gets up also, saying she’ll be right back.
Aurora eats dinner in her room, she left the main table before when Gonzalo announced his plan, she said it wasn’t her business. She goes to the bathroom to wash her hands, she looks down towards the closet and sees written on the full length mirror “Auxilio” in blood.
Barbara calls Erika’s house and pretends to be from the bank, she finds out that Erika isn’t home, she’s out with her parents. Now she knows Fern is going somewhere else.
Aurora cleans off the mirror, praying all the while. Santiago calls from outside, she pretends nothing is wrong.
Barbara returns to the table, everyone else but Gonzalo is gone. He is down, he feels old and disillusioned. He tells her how important she is and that she is the only real thing left in his life. Barbara squeezes out some tears and that makes him feel better. She hugs him and gives her evil happy eyes behind his back.
Tomorrow – Fr/Ed and Fernanda make out some more after getting Lily settled in.

I, for one, was quite moved listening to the rest of the tape and the sad tale of what happened to the teenage Lili after she got to the manicomio.
The dinner table scene at the Elizaldes was SO weird. First he says he's going to share out his bienes before kicking the bucket; then he never tells them HOW he's going to split them up. Sheesh!
Gardenia, if she really does quit, is going to be quite surprised at how little anyone at Las Animas misses her!
I'm really impressed with the actress Sylvia Navarro. Her choking sobs while listening to the tape were utterly convincing and those appeared to be real tears rolling from her eyes. Terrific actress in my opinion.
I find the scenes with Liliana a terrible drag....worse than Aurora, much worse. And even found myself getting impatient during the symbolic slow discussion with Ciro's spirit. But I assume that when the drugs are out of her system, this actress will have more to work with.
Loved the pink suitcase! And will miss Obregon.
Hope life slows down a little for you, Chris...hang in there!
With Damian being accused of stealing $3million from Grupos Lactos, plus the fact that his marriage to Fer has never been consummated, it would seem to me that Fernanda should have petitioned for an annulment. That would be logical. But, then we now know that he will return as his old confident sneaky self. Barb will have to do some masterful manipulation to explain that a mistake was made. Maybe he money will turn up in another Grupos account.
As novelera said - nobody is going to miss Gardenia if she quits. Especially not me.
Abora--snore (again) What did that mean on the mirror? I couldn't tell what it said.
Why do children in their 30's have to report where they are going all the time?
And I too think Fernanda's writing down the address will be significant, and not in a happy way. When she started to write, I wanted to yell at her, "Don't write it down! Don't write it down! And especially not on top of another piece of paper where the impression can be seen." Am I remembering incorrectly, or was that how one of the characters found out the number that Barbara called early in the TN?
Connie - My thought exactly, about responding to every question Barbie has. Fernanda is wearing big girl panties and should be able to skip dinner, go where she wants to and talk to whomever she pleases without explaining every detail to Gonzo and especially Barbie.
Gonzo is truly a bad guy. His apathy and lack of attention to his family have been responsible for most of the mess they are in. His main concern is himself and not being taken care of as he grows old. Now he wants them to know he's changing his will, and that he's not happy with them.
So glad Lili's free...at least for now...
jb
I'm actually going to miss Dr. O. For a while I thought he was going to join team Santoro. But off he went with his little pink suitcase.
I wonder where Lilly's safe house is. I thought she'd be going to Las Animas but it didn't look like it.
Naran-Ho looked so slimy lying in that bed. *shudders*
~Caborita
Married people in their 30's living at home seems strange (FELS, MEPS). I wonder if this is common with wealthy families in Mexico? Fernanda & Damian had planned to move somewhere else.
Looked like auxilio = help, on the mirror. At least it appears the obvious is true, the new maid is doing it. And Aurora SHOULD know it couldn't be Santiago since he was with the family.
I've been thinking about Lili & Ed, there is love there but not romantic love, you don't suppose thaaaaaat????????
Ladies, enjoy my new picture.
I just love Sylvia. Like everyone else says, she looks like she is really crying, and generally expresses her emotions flawlessly. If looks could kill, the asesina would be asesinada. Babs had better not try to stroke Fer's hair, she'll lose her hand.
Commie- this time the bloody word of the day on the mirror was 'AUXILIO", which means "HELP". At least she didn't freak out this time.
So just how is Babs gonna be able tobring Damian back in? Ooops, a slight accounting mistake- here is the $3M, we just put it in the wrong account, there is no problem, OK if you share your office with Vlad? Just seems especially hokey...
dorado dave
Oh yea, those stars that Martina is dreamily looking at are exactly the same stars that Fernanda was looking at a few weeks ago when she was looking out her window in reverie of memories of Fr/Ed--same stars in the same positions with the same constellations in place. Hmmmm
If Gardenia does bolt or get fired from Las Animas, will she take the duffle bag of Fernanda's letters with her?
I too am extremely impressed with Silvia Navarro. She's a damn good actress and can use her face to convey more than any words ever could. However, it's really time to change out of the dowdy, brown shirtwaist dress and get some color happening.
Dona Griguita
Good for Lil, but couldn't they have taken a little more time leaving that hellhole? Maybe spend a while reminiscing with some of the other inmates and staff.
I'd hate to play poker with Nanda. She certainly gives no clues to what she's thinking by her facial expressions or body language, does she?
Carlos
Somehow I don't think they are going to Las Animas. That might be the first place they look. I was thinking the country house but Babs goes out there so maybe not.
Cadmil-ho makes me sick.
I'm getting sick of Gardenia. She is so holier-than-thou and snotty.
Poor Flor. Doesn't she have a place to live? She didn't live with Margarita and Jacinto before did she?
I'm with all of you who think that of the whole Elizalde bunch Fernanda is the smartest, yet it seems that last night she was just "shouting out" what she was going to do....
Maybe FR/Ed will transfer his disgruntled employee, Gardenia, to Lili's new house. Of course, Martina will be there, too, so I don't know how that will work. Yikes, Gardenia needs high maintenance! I hope they introduce a new man soon and that he takes an interest in her.
Great recap, Chris!
MEPS in AZ
I agree that Silvia Navarro is a great actress, this is one of the best leading lady performances I have seen. Her crying isn't ugly, which automatically puts her in the top few percent. She performs the entire range of emotions well and to top it off she's totally hot. She's a winner.
Add me to the list of confused about where Lily is going, I don't remember Esteve and Fr/Ed talking about another house, but that would certainly explain it. I might have just missed that part one day.
I'm hoping the total downer scenes with Lili in the manicomio are at an end now, the 10 minute long blank stares drove me nuts.
Gardenia is getting on my nerves too but damn she's so nice to look at. Something will happen with her, she'll come out ok in the end I think, since she kept Fr/Ed's secret and she is one of the sacred kids from the beginning of the show. Eduardo, Fernanda, Lily, Jacinto, Margarita, Gardenia, Santiago. That whole gang will all come out fine based on Novela Law.
-Vivi in DC
I for one want to see more of Gardenia. She's so cute when she's righteously angry.
Carlos
Knowing how stupid Aborea is, she'll probably go to La Hiena for help.
~Caborita
Yes, Sylvia is a fantastic actress. Also,in this role she is one of the few that in a small way, handles situations like those of us that live in the real world do, not as the ones that we watch in novela land do;ie: Aurora and the mirror, save the "bloody" cloth!! Also, it is heartening to see Fer and EdFr building a FRIENDSHIP.
Gonzo is so irritating. The sad part of it is that there are some men out there that neglect their families after they "find happiness" with the younger newer version. If Gonzo has found happiness with the Wicked Witch of the West, that is fine, just don't disinherit your children!
Sandy in TN
Why is Gonzo giving Babs 75%, and the rest the 25% left? Is Babs going to arrange Gonzo's death as soon as the will is signed, or are we going to be tortured by his terminal stupidity even longer?
Franco Santoro has a lot on his plate with his personal revenge plans, AB's revenge plans, rehabbing Lilly, and then on top of that, the Gonzo/Elizalde stupidity.
Franco may be sorry he came down to Mexico from NYC after all... Fer has lots of baggage. Some of the NYC or Boston girls might not have so many difficult problems. I'd hate to try and explain my family, the Elizaldes, and all their "stuff" to a new beau!

thanks again for the recap.....

It doesn't look like it is out on DVD yet.
I think Venus is going to seduce Camilo, even though he is the obvious choice.
I agree that Ed bought a separate house for Liliana.
I think Aurora should be issued a cellphone, and use it to take pictures of the evidence. Of course this will never happen.
Sandy in TN
So glad you mentioned Dr. O's suitcase. It was a priceless exit. I will miss him.
Every time I think Gonzo can't be seen in a worse light, it happens. It's horrible to think he could resemble a real person at all. If he does kick the bucket, I hope Barb reveals herself and her wickedness to him before he goes. At least as he is dying, he'll know how his utter stupidity enabled the demise of his family.
I hope Fr/Ed posts guards at Lily's in case Barb gets that address and shows up.
I also hope Gardenia becomes as noble as DDave notes but I'm not as holding my breathe.
I was thinking the same thing. I also think, in her own way, she’s trying to be protective. She’s already shown a lot of strength in time of crisis. She might just save the day some how.
A couple of recaps ago I read that Barbedwire told Aurora not to let anyone know she’s crazy. Did she mean herself, Barb?
--Beth
We also can't have that will carried out.
It's Camilo, he will be so easy & Venus will keep him dangling, making him crazy. This is probably going to be Camilo's come uppance.
Remember when he first saw Martina?
What would be the point in it being Fr/Ed, he's making progress with Fernanda, unless she brings Damian to the party.
Maybe Esteve will wear a tux t-shirt or maybe we'll be impressed for the 1st time.
Anyone remember what the bloody message was on the mirror the 1st time?
I guess Adolfina is running the manicomio. Dr. O is probably coming to South Beach on Miami Beach.
Variopinto, the first message on the mirror was a cross.
South Beach would be perfect for Dr. O but I am afraid that we have not seen the last of him.
Don't be too hard on Gonzo, remember the old saying "There is no fool like an old fool".
rsk
How DOES Fernanda get her bottom lip to quiver so delicately? Amazing!
Could Cad fall for Aurora for real? His daydream didn't include his usual snarling or hissing and he looked serious rather than scheming. Of course, he may just have been plotting the ultimate seduction. Hmmmm.
jb, "big girl panties". :)
Karen, you perfectly captured my sentiments on Gonzo: "At least as he is dying, he'll know how his utter stupidity enabled the demise of his family." Amen.
Having Venus seduce Gonzo would be masterful! What a great, unexpected idea. It will be fun to watch Venus in action no matter who her "victim".
Diana in MA
Early on I LMAO at "Gardenia storms in, all heaving breath and sexy, sorry I mean in a huff". Personally I don't see anything at all cute or sexy in an angry person. But I guess the thought of taming a wild tiger is a man's fantasy. My fantasy would be to sign her up for anger management classes.
I agree with everyone's assessment of Nanda's acting/crying skills. Another person who I think is playing her part really well is Pricilla. I can feel her comtempt when she interacts with Vlad.
So, Damian is returning. That's sure to to put a damper on the budding friendship of Ed and Nanda. Now that I know that Lili has her own place, I'll bet that was the address that Nanda wrote down and I'll further bet that Babs will find it and discover where Lili is staying so she can go there and torture Lili in some way.
One more thing, Lili asked Nanda about Eddie. That's going to be interesting because that's another base that Eddie failed to cover, the fact that Lili knows his identity.
Should be interesting tonight.
Chris, glad you can see past your hormones to how terribly annoying Gardenia is. She lost me when she sat there methodically reading every one of Fer's heartrending letters to Eduardo, asking why he didn't respond. Did this cause any pang of guilt for our Denia? I don't think so. And, as someone said, she barged right in talking over poor Florecita, who never got to completely unburden herself. It's always all about Gardenia all the time.
I agree, Fer writing down Lili's address worried the crap out of me. I was also thinking impressions on a pad of paper.
I also thought it was dumb of Aurora to clean the mirror; she could have showed it to Santi. And Santi probably could have told her what kind of paint was used.
I'm with those who still believe that Venus is going to target Camilo even though it's too obvious. FrEd and "Estiv" (as they spelled it in captions last night) know that Camilo's been working with Babs. Besides, Estiv told Venus that she'd be a spy. They don't need anyone to spy on FrEd, but Camilo certainly needs more supervision...
FrEd and Estiv don't even know that a campaign against Camilo may also perturb his plans with Aurora. Just a nice side-effect if this storyline comes to pass...
Navarro cries well and I was so impressed by the actresses fleeting but meaningful look after that kiss with Franco and she told him to forget it happened and he had the temerity to agree TOO fast.
Prissy is using her subtle skills too displaying a 'just worn out' dealing with idiota' attitude. Love the acting of most of the cast including DimWatt. But not Abora. She doesn't give any hint that there is something beyond her pitiful but stupid character play. Maybe her mother, who cursed her with a blessing (WOW, that's bad), will succeed in driving her insane. Then her acting will have to show her sliding into irrationality. That would be interesting.
Gonzo distributing his goods while still alive works out extremely well for Babs and Bravo. Bravo has been wanting to ruin the Elizaldes, and he wants Gonzo to know why afterwards, which means that killing Gonzo has always been a no-no for Babs because he has to stay alive to fully experience his ruination.
Well, if the Elizaldes are ruined before Gonzo dies, then there's nothing for Babs to inherit. But with this new plan, Babs can take her 75%, sabotage Grupo Lactos again maybe, and take off.
She's stolen plenty from the Elizaldes anyway, but I'm sure it's more satisfying when you can get a sucker to hand things over to you legally.
The remaining 25% probably won't go far when split among the rest of the family (including Gonzo, who's still alive). If this is enough to constitute "ruin," then Bravo's plan is fulfilled, he can reveal himself to the Jedi, and Babs is free.
So, something is going to have to go wrong.
And if the Franco Team plans to make use of Cad, well, look at how well Barb was able to work with him ---not a benefit to any team.
When Dr. CuteGuy spilled the water on the floor, didn't you just love it when he walked away? 'Someone else will clean it up. I'm a doctor.' Argh....
Dr. O certainly did swish when he left with his suitcase. LOL
Beth - Babs told Aurora she (Babs) is crazy as a means of scaring Aurora into not messing with her. That's my take on it.
Carlos
What does Camilo care, he was playing around with Natasha & Erika at the same time, so I don't think there would be any problem with Aurora & Venus at the same time. He has lost interest in Natasha, just like he did with Erika.
¡Ay! Julie, Santiago's paints, wonder if his red paint is disappearing?
We know Miraflores has a vacant room for Aurora.
Seems to me that Camilo's torso is just as orange as his face?? He's doing a super job impersonating a total a**hole.
Nanda was impressive listening to the recording. Sorry to see the last (I guess?) of Dr. O. Lili's little visit with Ciro was sweet, but gratuitous.
One would think that the dinner topic could have held people's attention. Gonzo could have told the family to pay attention and turn off their cell phones, but he can't be authoritative to save his life.
Whenever the big party takes place, I would like to see:
1)Esteve wearing some kind of formal attire or at least a nice suit
2)Fernanda wearing something glamorous and NOT brown or bronze (the girl scout dress, the big-bow dinner dress)
3)Erika wearing a muzzle
La Paloma
Carlos, how can you say those things when you look at Martina's angelical little face?! :-P
JeffMN
But for sure our lovers will not have smooth sailing into la cama.
I like Lily but I agree with those that think her scenes are more dragging than the ones with Aurora.
I like the Elizaldes's family dinners, I love how clueless Gonzo is about everything, it's almost funny.
Silvia Navarro is pretty good, viewers here in México generally like her but she has recieved mixed reviews for this role in the media, the negativeness is more due to the fact that they feel her like some sort of "intruder" in Televisa than for her acting though.
I'll be leaving for Toronto tommorrow morning, I'm going to take a course to perfect my english, hopefully I'll be able to express myself much better when I come back.
Jarocha
Jarocha.
rsk
It's too bad that the media is trying to portray Navarro as an interloper on the Televisa scene. Much as it amuses me to see the same actors again and again in different roles, I really enjoy seeing new faces too.
I also didn't have time to mention it, but back when someone (Jarocha?) posted side-by-side links to Angela Rivera and Silvia Navarro as Gaviota, I was really torn as to who was better. The scenes were shot differently, so it was difficult to compare performances.
As I recall, Rivera was more "subtle," but her scene was done with mostly tight shots on her face. Showing more emotion in a close-up might have seemed melodramatic, and body language wouldn't have been visible. So my question is, did they do tight shots to make the most of her face, or did she give a subdued performance because of the tight shots?
Or did she give a more subdued performances because she (or the director) wanted to do something different from Cuando Seas Mia?
Generally, the wider shots on Navarro were better for capturing her body language and expressiveness, and I'm leaning towards her being the better of the two.
On the bright side, the recap was going to be slightly delayed anyway, because I am including some treats. :-)
