En Nombre del Amor, July 17, 2009

Paloma lies to Emiliano about Romina's whereabouts.

Romina tells German to keep their relationship on the down low. German is not in agreement.

Rafael visits Camila's shop to buy the painting that Diana wants. They talk about another painting and both agree that they like it better. He asks her to hold it for him and as they are moving the painting his papers fall out of the folder. She asks to look at it and he tells her it’s a new ceramics line that he wants to put out. She tells him that it's all a great idea and even suggests a little alteration. He asks her to tell his designer of the changes she has suggested.

Emiliano spots German and flags him down. German asks what he is doing around here. Emiliano says he was looking for Romina to invite her to eat, but couldn't find her. And what about you he asks German. He lies and says he had to take some papers to someone and Emiliano asks him to eat with him. German tries to beg off, but Emiliano will not here out it.

Macarena and Rufina are talking in the kitchen about Paloma while Macarena makes her cake. They reminisces about when Paloma was younger. Rufina tells her that they have to talk about her childhood with Paloma so that she will not think that there's a deep, dark secret. She tells Macarena to say that she was in love once, but they were not destined to be together. She points out that Paloma has already seen the picture of him. Macarena says it that Paloma doesn't know about her past. Paloma comes home from school and greets Macarena. They decorate the cake together and she asks Macarena if she can go to Romina's house.

German asks Emiliano what if another woman interested you. What would you do? He tells German that he would analyze his feelings and ask her how she feels about him. And if she does asks German. Emiliano says you can find only love with a woman. (?) I lost something here. Anyway Emiliano says that if you find that love and she has a boyfriend who is your friend? Then I would talk to my friend, but fight for that love. It's best to be honest. German asks what if it happened to you. It will hurt, but why would you want to be with a girl that wants another? Emiliano asks if that is happening to him. German says no, just making conversation. Emiliano asks him what he would do if that happened to him.

Paloma tells Romina what happened with Emiliano and how she lied to him. Romina thanks her for covering for her. Paloma tells her that she doesn't like to lie and that Emiliano doesn't deserve her cheating on him with German. Romina tells her that she's not lying, she just is holding back from him that German is in love with her. Paloma tells Romina that what she is doing is not right, and that she will no longer lie for her. Romina complains that Emiliano does not give her enough attention and she has to seek it elsewhere.

Angelica calls Carlota and wants to know if she can come visit her at the school for a talk. Carlota agrees. Angelica also asks her not to tell Paloma that she called. Carlota asks offended and says "Are you telling me that you want me to lie to Paloma?" (She has a problem with this now? How about telling Paloma about her inheritance?) Anyway Angelica tells her that after there conversation tomorrow she can bring it up to Paloma.

Paloma talks to Inaki to tell him what happened to her aunt and reminisces about her encounter with Emiliano. Inaki asks her if she will be going to the dispensary. Paloma says if her aunt does then she will. Are you going to be at the park? Inaki tells her everyday and that he wrote a song for her. He further tells her that since he has met her, the music has flowed freely from him. Paloma is excited to hear it. Inaki sends her a kiss and can't wait to see her.

Paloma goes into Macarena's room and asks if she's feeling better. Just a little tired responds Macarena. So I guess you are not going to the dispensary asks Paloma. No. Why asks Macarena. Because I wanted to get a couple of things at the store and also go to the park to see Inaki. Macarena says well then let's go. Paloma says no you must rest. Inaki will understand. Macarena tells her that she should go and will tell Carlota that....but Carlota walks in the room (since the door was open and no one seems to know to keep it closed so the evil one will not hear what is going on behind her back) Carlota asks where is she going? To the store to buy some things replies Macarena. And why can't you have Rufina get it asks Carlota. Because I need to pick them out myself responds Paloma. Okay, says Carlota with Macarena pushing her to go. Paloma is all excited until Carlota drops the bomb saying that she will go with her because she has to visit Ines and take her some papers. Paloma suggests that she go do her thing and that she will come get Carlota at Ines house, but Carlota will hear none of it. She will enjoy the walk.

Diana and Romina are having lunch at a restaurant. Diana thanks Romina for not telling Emiliano what she was doing today. Romina tells her that she is not a gossip. Diana says you are the girlfriend that I have always dreamed about for my son. Romina asks what she would like her to do for her. Diana wants Romina to help her stop Emiliano from working at his current job. Why? I thought you were happy that he is working here replies Romina. I am, but that job is not good enough for him replies Diana. Romina is in total agreement. So where do you want him to work asks Romina. With his father at the factory answers Diana. My son is talented and it's high time he takes the reins. Romina agrees.

Carlota and Paloma are walking thru the park. Carlota tells Paloma that she is glad that she is a responsible and studious girl. She is not at all like her friend Romina. Inaki spots them, but doesn't come forward. Ines shows up and asks Carlota to come to her house to help her with some accounts. Carlota says I have to take Paloma to the store, but Paloma tells her she can do it. I will meet you back at the house and off she runs. Inaki is sitting on the park bench and gets a call from his mother. He tells her about Paloma. She says that she is coming to Mexico and wants to meet her. He hangs up with his mother and Paloma runs up behind him and puts her hands over his eyes. He asks who are you and guesses Paloma. Paloma tells him that she doesn't have enough time and would he go with her to the store and then walk her home? Inaki agrees and holds her hand. He tells her that he just got off the phone with his mother and she wants to meet her. Why asks Paloma. Because I told her you are the most beautiful woman in Mexico replies Inaki.

Again Paloma is in Macarena's with the door open. Will she ever learn? Anyway she tells Macarena about her time with Inaki and that his mother wants to meet her. Macarena asks if she is falling in love with him. Paloma giggles and says of course not. Macarena tells her that love is wonderful and gives you strength to confront everything. Well almost everything. Now go finish your homework. After Paloma leaves, Macarena pulls out her box of secrets and looks at a picture. She tells the picture that after you left all the strength I had left too. I can't tell Paloma about you. Carlota walks in suddenly and Macarena tries to hide the picture. Carlota snatches it away from her and Macarena tells her that she has no right. That picture is hers. She tries to snatch it back, but Carlota won't let her. She tears it up and throws it at her. (This calls for a bitch slap) Macarena yells out no, starts crying and bends down to pick up the picture. Carlota tells her that man is dead and your tears will not bring him back.

Macarena tells Carlota that she knows he's dead, but while she thinks of him he is alive in her heart. And what does that serve you asks Carlota. Macarena tells her that it reminds her that she had a real love once. Macarena tells Carlota to get out of her room. Carlota reminds her that all she does for her is for her own good. Macarena yells at her to get out of her room. She slams the door. Carlota looks like she's about to cry and walks into her own room. She says out loud that if love is not for her, then it will not be for anyone else in this house either. She turns to the statue of Jesus and says you are the only one that understands me. She starts to pray.

Rufina comes to Macarena and asks her if she's okay. Macarena says this is the only picture I have of him. Carlota never could accept that he loved me. If he had preferred her over me, I swear I would have accepted it. Rufina says she tore it up out of pure anger. Give it to me so that I can tape it up for you. Luckily Paloma went to take a bath and did not hear a thing.

Padre Basco? asks Cristobal to come to dinner. Cristobal tells Padre that he does not want to return to Real del Monte. But the lady that you fell in love with is no longer there responds Padre. You are wrong, she lives in every corner of that town. It's all in your head replies Padre. She is dead. Cristobal shouts that she died because she believed I abandoned her. You cannot blame yourself for that replies Padre. But I am shouts Cristobal. She was an innocent and sweet woman who was full of life. I was a coward who could not confront her family for our love. Did she write you a letter and tell you it was all your fault asks Padre. No replies Cristobal. She was too good a woman for that. But her family blamed me for her death and since that day I have never lived in peace. Padre tells him that he is not the same man he use to be. Cristobal says the church has been my refuge and I have found my true calling. I just don't understand why god has to put these tests in front of me. Padre says not to question god. He has forgiven you. Trust in him.

Inaki calls Paloma who does not have it the phone on vibrate, but loud beeping. Hello?! Carlota might hear it. Anyway Inaki wants her to come out tomorrow for a party they are going to throw Emiliano in celebration of his new job. And he also wants to play the song he wrote for her. She says she doesn't think that she can go. Inaki tells her it's okay, but try to come. He'll play the song he wrote for her when we see each other next. Paloma asks if he will be mad if she cannot go, because of how controlling her aunt is with her. He tells her he doesn't care as long as they are friends and that she trusts him. He also wants to meet Macarena.

Emiliano tells Romina that he went to get her after school so they could eat and tried to call her also. Romina tells him that she had to go with her mother. And that she stayed all day at the house doing nothing. She asks him if he ate with his mother instead. No, but she is very interested in our relationship. This makes Romina happy and asks him if told his mother that he is crazy about her. You adore me, don't you? Yes replies Emiliano. But says it without to much enthusiasm.

Macarena is eating breakfast and Carlota walks in and says "You couldn't wait for me? That is such a discourtesy." Macarena ignores her and keeps on eating. Carlota asks her if the rats have eaten her tongue. What's the matter? Macarena says she doesn't want to talk to her. Carlota reminds her that this is her life now and that the past no longer exists. I know that you like to remind me all the time about the past, but today I will not give you the pleasure responds Macarena and leaves the table.

Rafael talks to Emiliano about Camila helping him with the designs. She said the exact same thing you did. I tried to get your mother involved, but she is not interested.

Macarena goes to Camila store to greet her. She says she was in the neighborhood inquiring about some art classes for Paloma. She wants her to get out of the house more often. And also meet some new friends. Camila is in total agreement with her. Carlota is too strict with her and I'm glad that you want to let Paloma have more fun like kids her own age replies Camila. But are you prepared for the consequences if Carlota finds out? Macarena says Carlota knows that she is seeing someone. Well then replies Camila don't hide the fact that you support Paloma secretly. Have it out in the open.

Carlota goes to visit with Angelica. "I don't have a lot of time" says Carlota. "What do you want to talk to me about?" Angelica tells her that Paloma is a very smart woman, but is emotional insecure, has bad social skills and is very timid. That is just her personality replies Carlota. And you. The thing that she fears the most is you. "Is that what she told you" asks Carlota. No, replies Angelica. I just wonder why. "You are the expert in all this, why don't you tell me" replies Carlota. "Believe me, if I knew it I would not have bothered you" responds Angelica. All I know is that she lost her parents and that has affected her. Carlota says that any child that has lost their parents are affected. Anything else? Angelica wants to know how the accident happened and her behavior after her parent’s death. Why are you such a hard guardian to her? Carlota tells Angelica that she has no rights to meddle in her niece's affairs and even less in mine. Angelica reminds her as the psychologist she has authority. Carlota tells her that you are only the psychologist and have no right period. Your only job is too telling her what she will excel at career wise. That is all. Angelica says her only interest is in helping Paloma. Give her the tools to manage in the world. Carlota tells her that is her responsibility not hers. Also never to interfere in their lives again or she will have to talk to the school administrator.

Romina defends herself against not telling Paloma about the party for Emiliano. She knows that her aunts will not let her go. Paloma tells her that she wants to go. Romina asks if it's because of Inaki. Paloma says she likes to be with him. He makes her feel good and that he wrote her a song. Romina and Paloma spot Carlota and Paloma asks what she is doing here. Carlota tells her that she came to see how she is doing at school and is very proud of her. Romina comments that is the first time I have seen her give you a kiss in public. That is not normal.

Rufina goes to the photo shop and wonders if they can fix a torn up photo. The lady says they can copy it for her. Okay replies Rufina.

Rafael's partner comes in and says that Camila will see them tomorrow about the alternations to there new ceramics products. He inquires about her.

Romina tells Camila that for her graduation she wants to invite her Emiliano and his parents. Camila thinks it's too soon to have the parents involved in everything. They talk about her father and how Camila never abandoned her. She's not like the other moms who remarry. Camila says well you have been my focus, but when you make your own life I will resume mine. Romina is pissed about this new development. Camila tries to defend herself. She wants to find someone to spend her days with. Romina reminds her that she promised to never remarry. And I have completed that promise replies Camila. I just want to have a companion that needs me since you no longer do. Romina walks off.

Macarena tells Paloma about the art class that she signed her up in. Hurry up so we can go. Carlota asks since when do you make decisions regarding Paloma without consulting me? As of today replies Macarena. I am not looking for your permission or having a discussion about this. I have already made the decision. Come on Paloma. (Alright!! She has grown a pair!) Carlota is muy impactada about what has just gone on.

Paloma can't believe what just happened. Macarena tells her she realizes that she cannot live in her past and that she (Paloma) cannot pay for all the things that happened in the past. Paloma says she doesn't understand. Macarena tells her that Carlota suspects something is going on, but we have to be discreet. Inaki comes up to them and introduces Macarena to him. Macarena comments how good looking he is which makes Paloma shocked. Inaki asks if they are going to the dispensary, but Macarena tells him they are going to art class. Paloma is taking them twice a week and afterwards and hang out a little. Maybe then she can come and hear me play the song I wrote for her. Paloma quickly tells Inaki that she has not told her yet. Macarena wonders what is going on. Inaki tells her that a bunch of friends are going to get together and he wants to play a song for her that he wrote especially for her. Macarena asks if she wants to go. Yes, replies Paloma, but how. "I don't know yet, but I will figure out a way" replies Macarena. She tells Paloma that she will see her later. She hugs Inaki and then they kiss. So sweet.

Can someone tag this please? Thanks. And thanks to Cathy for covering for me on Wednesday.

Excellent recap. So much happened in this episode! Looks like Cristobal and Macarena had a Romeo and Juliet situation--each thought the other was dead. Evil Carlota must have planned that. Romina is becoming a real piece of work. And Carlota, she's scary. Did anyone else notice that her makeup looks purple sometimes, when she's being really diabolical? Other times she looks normal.

Great recap Gloria!

We are starting to get more pieces to the puzzling past. Those brief scenes when Cruelota ripped the photo and Padre Cristobal's conversation w/ the other priest were very telling. Now I want more, and methinks (or me fears) the powers to be will trickle info to us slowly. I'm looking forward to the day when Mac and Cris come face to face. Should be really interesting.

Comment on Wed.'s show re: if it was sugar that Cruelota was spooning into Mac's tea. Since it is a novela and they aren't always accurate in how they portray medical situations, I suppose sugar could be what was put in the drink and most likely it was....however I guess I just thought that Cruelota would resort to some sort of poison. Anyway, I think that someone who's avoided sugar for 10 years would have been able to taste it in her drink. Then there was the minimal amount that Mac actually drank---I don't think it would have any noticeable effect on her. Also, I'm not the diabetes expert, but I do have a diabetic dog and have tried to learn as much as I can about the disease in order to better manage Bailey's care. I know that low blood sugar (from not eating or from too high of an insulin dose) is more dangerous to the patient's immediate health than too high of blood sugar (increased caloric intake or eating food high in glucose/sugar). Uncontrolled diabetes, having high blood sugar levels, is dangerous over the long term as it starts to affect organ function as the body is basically poisoned from inside by the glucose toxins in the blood and metabollically the body starts to burn muscle for energy because it is unable to utilize the sugar in the blood for energy, however this takes some time. It is low blood sugar that can cause people to faint or end up in a diabetic coma, that's why diabetics are supposed to carry candy around---if they end up with low blood sugar they need to elevate it quickly. So if Cruelota wants to mess with Mac, she'd be better off messing with her insulin---giving Mac higher dosages of that, which would lower her blood sugar into dangerous range rather than causing her to have higher blood sugar. Enough of that long schpiel.

I think Emiliano is cute and his personality is very appealing. Germie is hot, with personality as yet to be determined. I think that Romy is shallow and because of this, she'd find Germie more appealing than E. However, E seems to have some money and that would also be a big draw to Romy. Do we know what Germie's economic background is? If he's working class, that might play a big part in how Romy feels about him.

Thanks Gloria! I had to take a break from telenovelas for several months due to work and other time constraints, but I'm trying to catch this one as much as possible. I've always loved spooky atmospheres and mysteries. I watched the first four episodes back to back on YouTube and had some doubts about my fortitude when I saw the puppy floating in the fountain and burst into tears (the final straw after so many other cruel losses for poor little Paloma!). But now that Paloma's older she's not quite so vulnerable, so maybe I can stomach the terrible awesome wickedness that is Carlota.

This is my first novela with Arturo Peniche (Cristobal) - I like him!

Thanks for the recap, Gloria. And you help us all when you say something was hard to understand. I always feel terrible when the Spanish baffles me but then I remember I don't always get what's said in English either!

NinaK...I have the same problem with Carlota. Her lips appear to be lavender in some scenes. Scary-looking to the max. I was happy to see Macarena standing up to evil sister a little in Friday's episode...I can only take so much of the victim mode before I get impatient. Hopefully her love for Paloma will help her to stiffen her spine a bit.

Thanks for the great recap, Gloria. Very thorough. The big reveal, which I'm sure many of us had already suspected, is that Carlota and Macarena were in love with the same man, presumably Cristobal. The convoluted part is how Cristobal and Macarena each think the other is dead. It probably will be some plot by Carlota that is the reason.

And, yes, sometimes Lottie looks quite normal and other times her purple lips and purple eye shadow glow in an evil way.

I seriously doubt Macarena and Cristobal will reunite. When people become priests in TNs, they stay priests.

I agree it's unlikely Mac and Cristobal will get back together. Those vows are sacred even in Novelaland. However, I imagine it will be reasonably satisfying for both of them to have some closure and get rid of the grief and guilt.

I think Emiliano was telling Germy that there's only one woman for you...like he believes in the "one and only" concept. So if your one perfect woman happens to be dating your best friend, too bad for him, you go for it anyway.

I'm glad everyone's finally teaming up against Carlota. I don't know how they've put up with her this long.

Gloria – nicely detailed recap of a hot episode! I really like how the story lines are developing, and all the hints that are being dropped for us to gobble up.

I think Emiliano’s ethics are a bit dicey. I guess it’s that telenovela concept that there is only one true love in each person’ life. In real life loves come and go, but friends are a much better long-term investment. Also, it would be very skunky to make off with your best friend’s gal just because you’re hot for her.
