En Nombre del Amor July 23, 2009

I'm sorry, but I cannot post a recap. I have been ill. I am posting space for discussions.

As a matter of fact, I will not be able to continue recapping at this time. Are there any substitutes out there?

Oh dear, NinaK! I hope it’s something that passes very quickly.

Last night they said Amor would be on at 10:00 here on the west coast due to the soccer. So I set my tape for 10:00 to 11:15. When I went to look at it around 11:30 or so, I saw the show was still running. So I ended up seeing the last 15 minutes and on the tape I had about the first 20 minutes. So I missed the middle. Argghh!

The key scene I remember is a very well-written one in which Carlota says that she is upset that Paloma lied to her about having a boyfriend, and then she rains on everyone’s parade by saying that Inaki is a musician just passing through and he’ll be leaving soon, and Paloma will end up with a broken heart. Plus he doesn’t come from a good family. She goes to Inez and asks about her son (nephew?) who sounds like a workaholic.

She tells Paloma to get ready to go out, so we know they’re off to see this candidate.

Then I skip to the end where Paloma says she wants to marry someone she loves, which Mac totally agrees with. Mac says it’s better to have loved and lost than never to have loved before, and you can love again. Paloma says why didn’t you love again, and Mac says some people are programmed to have just one love in their hearts.

Romina tries to get hot and heavy with Emiliano in a restaurant, but he’s embarrassed and says not here. In a touching scene, she tells him that maybe her father abandoned her because she’s not actually his child. Later, Romina tells her mother off for accepting Rafael’s flowers.

Rafael’s partner says he wants to close the ceramics factory – it’s just not making it. Rafael protests he’s spent his whole working life dedicating himself to the factory. The partner says buy me out then. Rafa says he doesn’t have the money and it’s easy for the partner because he’s rich and has other businesses, but this is everything for Rafa. When Rafa tells Diana, she tells him it’s all his fault, he’s such a loser.

Chris, the padre, says he just can’t go to Real del Monte. His superior says he has to, or give up the cloth.

At the end, Paloma is in church with Carlota. She says she has to confess (in the middle of the service!). This has been planned, and there’s Inaki slipping into the other side of the confessional. He tells her he will change his life and stay in town to be with her. They kiss through the grill and the door swings open and there’s Carlota looking outraged. Busted again!

Now somebody tell me what Inez’s son/nephew looked like!

A good scene you missed is when Carlota arranged a date for Paloma with a guy who was her choice--he's Inez's son Aron. He looks a little nerdy, wearing glasses. She and Inez set them up together at a cafe and leave them to talk.

Aron asks Paloma if she has a boyfriend, and she asks how he knew--he says he just guessed because of her pretty face. They end up making a nice friendly connection and share a few laughs over the pain of having metiche parents/guardians. Carlota sees them laugh and thinks it's a match made in heaven.

Oh, yeah, after Aron started talking he didn't seem nerdy anymore.

Hi, so sorry to hear that you won't be able to continue recapping! I haven't been watching the show regularly and my Spanish isn't that great, but if no one else is available I could sub for awhile until you're able to come back (I'm already set up to post since I subbed for Julia once on Cuidado).

Oh, gosh NinaK, somehow I didn’t read your second sentence in your post. This is really too bad – I know how you were looking forward to recapping this show! I am so sorry you’re going through hard times.

Debbie, you are a champ to offer to step in.

Hi, Maggie, thanks for your good wishes.

You didn't miss anything. I added the second sentence later.

Sorry to hear you won't be recapping, Nina. And I'm glad to hear we have an offer to take over.

Romina's behavior is going from bad to worse. She's working up to be a full-fledged villain. I disagree that the scene in the restaurant was touching. She has always blamed her blameless mother for her father's failings. This time she went so far as to come up with a stupid conclusion that her mother was unfaithful and that she's really someone else's child in order to account for her father's indifference. The fact that her father could just be a complete heartless jerk doesn't cross her mind.

She also gets in her mother's face about the flowers, something over which Camila had no control anyway. She and Diana are both ridiculous about this. Emiliano's father (can't remember his name) was just showing appreciation for her excellent suggestions on the ceramic designs by sending flowers since she would accept no payment. And Romina did the same thing as Diana, opened the envelope to read it! Yuch!

Actually, the scene with Aron was pretty funny. Carlota is an idiot thinking you can turn off young love by bringing someone else around. And, besides, she probably would turn on Aron if Paloma fell for him. Bottom line: she really hates her niece and doesn't want her to be happy at all.

The scene with Diana and Rafael (thanks Maggie, I just got his name from your comment) was just awful. That marriage is going to end for sure, hopefully with Rafael with Camila. How could anyone talk to their husband that way when he'd gotten such bad news about a business he'd put his heart and soul into for years?

Novelera – I’m glad you commented! Where is everybody today?

The feeling I have about Romina is that she is both spoiled and very troubled. I think that she is going to end up badly hurt, partly because of the tearful shot of her in the opening credits. Certainly her approach to boyfriends is unhealthy and is going to have some bad consequences.

I really like the way her character is developed, and also the development of Carlota. Carlota’s speech to Paloma about possibly getting hurt has some merit and would sound like a concerned parent if we didn’t know that Carlota is so evil.

Surely there must have been other scenes I missed. Can anyone chime in on those? I was wondering how Paloma knew that Mac had had a past love, since it wasn’t mentioned before last night.

Nina, i really hope things improve for you and I have enjoyed your recaps. Best wishes.

I thought this scene was maddening: Emiliano and Romi run into Inaki and his mom at the movies and Romi ends up seated next to Inaki. Since Emiliano is not the doting pushover she expected and she sees that Inaki is devoted to Pal, she decides to put the moves on Inaki giving him a super big smile. Inaki looks back at Romi with a questioning look though I think he knows what she's up to and doesn't want any part of it. I can't imagine Inaki falling for Romi's seduction. GinCA

Yes, GinCA. That was another truly disgusting exhibition by Romina. I think she heard Iñaki going on and on about Paloma when they were in line at the movies. A little frown crossed her face. She can't stand for anyone else to have any happiness. So she's decided to put the moves on Iñaki because she's so infuriated that Emiliano won't dote on her in the same way. What a brat! And she's trying to do this to her best friend, who has absolutely nothing in her life besides Iñaki.

There's surely going to be a big shoe dropping for Romi when her Mom gets her grades. Remember the big birthday bash is dependent on decent grades.
