MEPS 07/03/09: Oh, Noes! My Baby Wrote Me a Letter…♪♪

Capítulo 99

[A big “Thank You” goes to Gloria who devoted three of her Friday nights to subbing for me while I was out of the country. --ed.]

It’s like old times in the guest bedroom at the Elizalde’s as Scamian, aka Damian, gets an especially warm, late-night “welcome home” visit from the scantily clad and very hot-to-trot Barbie. Damn’s not a happy camper since he’s sensed while he was incognito that the apparent competition was on the march and may have gained the advantage with his matrimonial meal-ticket. After a little verbal foreplay with The Boss, he buries his bruised male ego in her willing …er… bosom while Fernanda laments her lost opportunities with Fr/Eduardo.

As for Eddie, the party’s over. Eddie is totally undone at the thought of having been discarded once more by the fickle Fernanda, his seemingly impossible lifelong love. When he enters his darkened bedroom and turns on the light, he is muy, but muy, impactado to find piles of Nanda’s unmailed letters to him now lying on his bed.

Down the hall, a grumpy Gardenia pouts in her bedroom, bellyaching in front of her mirror about Eduardo. She grumbles to herself that she hopes Eduardo has a rotten night reading all of those old letters. “Let him find out how for years Fer went around pining for him for real. It couldn’t be helped, Eduardo. You forced me, and in the end she went back to her mooch of a husband anyway, didn’t she? –ooohyy!! And that Errika! You’re too fine a catch to be picking up Camilo Elizalde’s left-overs!”

Somewhere in town our left-over leaver, Cadmilo, is sitting in a bar remembering back to earlier that evening. He can’t get that vision of loveliness, the loverly Lovely, out of his pea-sized brain. The jackass tells himself that she’s the real deal: a genuinely classy lady. (Viewerville enjoys a few naughty snickers and snorts.)

Venus returns home now and Martina is waiting up for her. She asks Venus if she got set up with a potbellied short guy or what. Venus says nope, the guy was tall, handsome, rich and really very pleasant. For once in her life she’s getting paid to entertain a guy that she’d gladly be with for free. Martina excitedly starts putting the cart before the horse and says if they should both fall in love and there’s a wedding, then the first of them to have a kid will have the other be the god-mother. Venus says not to get ahead of herself because she was hired to do a job “and the most important condition was not to fall in love with Camilo Elizalde.” Martina’s smile disappears the minute she hears Cad’s name. She tells Venus she’s known the guy all her life and he is Lili’s brother. Venus stops to consider the implications. (Methinks this lady’s got some brains along with all that brass.)

The next morning Damian surprises Nanda by bringing her breakfast in bed. She has no appetite. He asks her if she is unhappy that he came back. (Viewerville wants desperately for her to scream YES!) Fernanda, to her credit, successfully fights the urge to admit the truth and says nothing. Like any self-respecting woman, she pretends not to understand what he’s talking about. Damn tiptoes further into the marital mine-field to ask if during all this time that he’s been gone there perhaps was another man who entered the picture. (Now that’s rich, considering he and Bitch Barbie have been screwing like minks for the past three years and how he and BB were gettin’ busy making up for lost time last night.) “It’s pure foolishness, but last night I just got to thinking….” (Yeah, cry me a river.)

Speaking of “the other man,” Eduardo, thanks to Denia, has spent the entire night reading Nanda’s old letters and now realizes how badly he screwed the pooch the night before at his big bash. Tears stream down his cheeks. (Though the tug at the heartstrings at this point is undeniable, Viewerville struggles not to share the moment. Considering Eddie was the consummate jerkwad with Fer at the party, he deserves at least a brief period of torment and heartbreak. Let us pause to relish.) Estev walks in on Ed and kids his buddy about staying up all night to “continue the drink-fest [pachanga] alone,” but then he sees Ed’s in no mood for jokes. Estev asks what’s wrong. Eddie hands him a letter. Estev takes a look at the bed. “I don’t believe it! These are the letters from Fernanda that you’ve been looking for!”

Back in Nanda’s bedroom, Scamian, aka Damn, now takes a different tack with Fer and decides not to continue playing twenty questions. He tells her there’s no reason for dramatics right now and then continues the sickly sweet nice guy routine. Damn makes small talk and tells her he picked up his car “from the boarding house” and then got some clothes back at his mom’s. “Mama sends you her best.” He’s anxious to get back to the office and speak to her dad about getting his old job back, he says. He gives her his best sh!t-eating grin.

Speaking of Gonzo the Geezer, Babs has devised another scheme to skim the cream from this dopey dairy don she’s married to. She comes rushing into his office in a feigned fit of agitation. She supposedly just got off the phone with Obregon who told her he had Lili with him. Yep. Babs has all her bases covered. She says yes, she confirmed it by speaking to Lili, but of course the girl was drugged and just babbled as usual. Said call was brief because the police would be bugging the phones and Obregon was too smart to be caught that way. Gonzo wants to trace it but Babs says the call was from an unlisted number so it couldn’t be traced. Sniff, sniff, sob. Babs tells Gonzo that she told Obregon to set any amount he wants as a ransom since the girl’s health and life had no price too large for them to pay. Sob, sob, sniff. He would only agree to a deal if they agreed not to warn the police.

Gonzo picks up the phone to let Fernanda and the others know what’s happening, but Babs talks him into keeping it just between the two of them. Lili’s brothers could give a flip, she says, and it’s because of Fernanda’s asking to hold off transferring Lili to a clinic in Stockholm that Lili is now in the predicament she’s in. Gonzo heels on cue. He starts blaming himself for ever having paid attention to Fer about keeping Lili there instead of sending her someplace safe where she’d be getting help from a specialist by now. (Gonzo soooo deserves Babs. This guy makes my teeth hurt. I have to make sure there’s nothing breakable anywhere near me and that my cat is safely out of reach of my foot every time he’s in a scene.)

Across the hall, Damn makes a call to Vlad at home. Damn’s not sure what game she’s playing but he’s not about to let BB crap on him again. Now that he’s back at the company, he says, he’ll be able to do whatever’s necessary to eventually clear his name completely. The only loose end is Florecita. Vlad says he’s got that covered. A guy he knows over at Prolasa named Ubaldo owes him a few favors so he’s going to help him out with the guy who’s taking the fall over there.

Over at Prolasa, Ubaldo and Jaime The Goat are having a coffee break. Ubaldo has a way for Jaime to supposedly get out of the jam he’s in.

Babs continues the tearfest until Gonzo says they’ll do things her way. She says she’s going out for a while to get some air. The Barbinator is back and on the move again. Yes, indeedy!

Back at Las Animas, Estev finishes reading a letter. Eduardo recalls how he used to wait for a letter from Fer every time his mother wrote him. He hated it because every time he opened the envelope there was never anything from Fer in it. Now, he says, he realizes that she was writing to him the whole time. Estev says yeah, not only did she write, but it appears that she never stopped thinking about him, either. Ed says actually she did and, in a three hanky scene, reads Estev the last letter Nanda wrote to him:

“Fourteen years have passed and I know through my nana only that you are doing fine, because every time I ask about you she avoids answering. This is the last time I’m writing to you because your silence speaks volumes. Now that so much time has passed I can understand how perhaps you blame me for your exile. I would have asked you to forgive me because I lacked the character to defend you but I wanted to do it looking you in the eye.

“Our story hurts me so much, and even though we were children, the first kiss that we shared --and the only one I’ve had up till now--is still fresh in my mind. Never until today did I think our love would be impossible, but then I realized that I was mistaken; and as I am certain that you will not answer this letter either, I am taking the opportunity to say goodbye to you, telling you that only your silence and no other reason is what makes me shut the door on your memory. Goodbye forever.
–Fernanda”

Denia is walking through the hallway and overhears Eduardo’s story. She tip-toes to the bedroom door to eavesdrop. “Fernanda was right to do what she did. She got tired of waiting for an answer from me. Imagine it. She never knew that I was feeling and thinking the same thing. I wrote her so many times and used to tell her about everything that happened, every friend that I met, about how much I missed her, and also about my love: a love that was growing in the distance.” Estev says it must’ve been that his mother felt if the two of them never communicated then Ed would give up on Fernanda.

Denia now has tears running down her cheeks. (Ok. Enough with the payback. So do I. Come to mama!) “I never did…Geez…. Darn it! Do you remember the hope was to come here looking for her (like a starry-eyed dolt) and to ask her to marry me?” We flashback to the day he arrived back in town and got splashed walking along the road to his mother’s place (episodio #5). Eddie tearfully tells Estev how it went downhill from there. “My love was transformed into hate and rage.”

Estev says yeah, just like now and that he saw it all and knew the Hell his buddy was going through last night when the two of them watched Fer walk in on the arm of her husband and then dance with him. (Mercifully he avoids adding “and the way Damn slobbered kisses all over her neck and arms.”) Estev reminds him that it would be devastating for Eduardo Juarez that Fernanda might want to save her marriage; but he should remember that for Franco Santoro, her being married is a reality that Franco cannot and must not fight against.

Back again at Grupo Lactos, Vlad knocks into Flor by accident. She gives him a well-deserved snub. He tells himself she’s right to hate him.

Over at Prolasa, Jaime makes up a big story for Rolando that Flor (who he wouldn’t know if she stared him cross-eyed in the face) offered to sell him the documents; and that in the end he decided against it because he didn’t think Rolando would want them, being the straight arrow that he is. Jaime just gets deeper and deeper in the weeds with this fish tale and eventually feels pressured to tell Rolando that the reason Flor offered him the documents to begin with was that they were dating. (Good Lord!)

Flor, meanwhile, is in Fernanda’s office trying to tell Fer what she saw the other day outside Vlad’s apartment, but Damian comes in just then and she’s interrupted before she can put her thoughts into words. He comes in to tell Fernanda that Daddy wants the two of them in his office then turns to Flor and shamelessly tries to butter her up. Damn says he has to make a phone call before joining Fer and Gonzo, and then leaves.

Back at Prolasa, Rolando tells Jaime that Flor will go to jail for such a serious crime. After Jaime leaves, Rolando calls Gonzo to tell him he’s found out something about the industrial espionage situation and will come by in the afternoon to discuss it in person. All he’ll tell him now is his employee ‘fessed up and named his contact from Grupo.

Meanwhile, Babs’ has actually gone to speak with Artemio Bravo at his new digs, some old mansion in the city. The Barbot has some good news for him. Finally, she says, she has the entire Elizalde family in her hands. Bravo congratulates her. [“En buena hora.”]

Gonzo hangs up and tells Nanda about Rolando’s call. He’s bummed that it’s one more rotten thing to deal with in addition to everything else they’ve been going through. Fer sympathetically asks if he’s found out anything more about Lili. He lies and says no, not a thing. They wait for Damian while he supposedly makes that phone call.

Said call is really a cover for Scamian to speak to Vlad about their Prissy and Flor predicament. Vlad’s afraid he’ll lose his job and Damn says he’s the one on the skids with the family, not Vlad. Vlad worries about the problems Damn is getting them into and Damn says they’ve been in deep doodoo for a long time already, but not to worry. That’s what a friend is for. Then Damn asks what’s happening with their contact in Prolasa. Vlad says Ubaldo managed to convince Jaime to give Rolando some cock ‘n bull story that will keep Pris from being found out. Damn says great because now he’s got to talk to his daddy-in-law about a raise and leaves. (Ya just gotta love a guy like him, don’t ya?) Vlad has another epiphany and says to himself that it’s obvious Damn didn’t come back to Fernanda out of love, but for the filthy, petty self-interest. (Ding! Ding! Ding!)

The Barbinator informs Artemio that she brought Damian back onto the scene because he was more useful to him there than hidden away in his rat hole. Bravo asks about Fer and BB tells him that Fer’s finding it hard dealing with the loss of her budding romance with Franco Santoro, but that she is old-fashioned [chapada a la antigua] and understands that she is a married woman. Bravo asks what happens if Lili shows up and ruins her plan. BB says that’s the last piece of the puzzle and she’ll need his help to locate her then gives him a couple of recent photos of Lili.

BB thinks Obregon let Lili escape right before he took off and she doesn’t think Lili would come back to the hacienda. Bravo wants to know what happens once they find her. Barbot answers icily that nobody will miss her. Bravo wants to know about Aurora next and how she and Santiago Elizalde met and became romantically involved. Barbie lies and says she doesn’t know; is it important? He lies and says it’s just simple curiosity. BB stares him in the eyes and thinks to herself what a pervert he is: “How badly you lie, Artemio Bravo! Even though you think she’s dead, it still pains you that that wilted thing, Aurora, might have exchanged your ancient smell for Santiago Elizalde’s young blood.” (As I’ve said before, I don’t write this stuff; I simply try to translate it.)

At the same instant, Santi joins Rory for a bit of prayer in the chapel. It's anybody's guess what the goof-ball stare he’s giving her means.

Scam acknowledges to Gonzo how grateful he should be that, thanks to Babs who never gets the credit she deserves around there, he’s been brought back into the fold. Anibal walks in just then and stares daggers at Damn. Gonzo tells him they’re just about to discuss Damian’s official return to the company. Damn smiles impishly. Anibal just glares at him. Fer looks for the nearest crack in the floor to fall through.

Back at Las Animas, Eddie is packing up Fer’s letters while Estev commiserates. “What good is it that Fernanda was faithful to our promise for such a long time? As it is, she went back to her husband and all these are the sad, cruel facts.” Estev reminds Ed that he’s got to get a grip. “Grupo Lactos, the Elizalde family, discovering who Artemio Bravo is --those are your priorities, Eduardo. I’m not saying you should pretend that nothing has happened, that Fernanda might not be important to you, but don’t confuse your past with your present!” Ed gets upset and says to back off. “I know where you’re going but can’t you understand that right now I can’t bear to come face to face with Fernanda?”

Estev says “Ok, but don’t forget you’re now Franco Santoro and she is his ally! HIS ALLY. An ally that is there to help finish with the injustices that have continued to be committed, no matter how many times she breaks Eduardo Juarez’s heart.!” Eddie loses what little patience he has left. “— I know exactly what my objectives are!!” “--Then what are you going to do? What are you going to do with all that hate you’re feeling right now? Are you going to let it flow unrestrained and have the whole world find out about it?” “—No! Of course not!” “—Then what?” Ed has reached his emotional limits. “—But, well, right now… it’s… too much for me to handle! Denia has definitely gotten her pound of flesh.

Jardinera - Thank you for the great recap. Great title, too. Now that song will be stuck in my head!!! Gaaaah......
I can see you are over jet lag and back in fine fighting ....er ....writing form!

I can't wait to watch my recording of this episode.

"Dopey Dairy Don" -- LOL loving it. Gonzo is just so clueless, I want to scream. Hope he lives long enough to realize how he's been manipulated all these years. Now he's going to come up with a ransom for Lili that Babs will also abscond with! Welcome back, Jardinera, and thanks for a thorough and clever recap. hgr

Hi Jardinera...let me echo what Doris said. You haven't lost any of your verbal snap and crackle by your absence. Rip-snortin' recap my dear...sure hope my recording worked because it sounds like quite an episode.

Loved the picture of Damian "tiptoing into the marital minefield" and Gonzo "heeling on cue". Wicked.

Good to have you back with us and hope your time away was all that you hoped it would be.

Jardinera, you returned with a bang. Welcome back. You are so funny today and you spared no one. "Screwed the pooch"...my absolute favorite metaphor. Looks to me that after hearing Eddie's mournful soliloquy , that Gardenia will now attempt moving heaven and earth to reunite our star-crossed couple. With decidedly mixed results I might add.

Jardenia~~~Welcome back and thanks for that grear recap. Thanks, also, to Gloria for filling in for you while you were gone3. Hope that your trip and the wedding were wonderful. Poor Flor...talk about an innocent bystander. I thought Jaime looked familiar. I think that he might have been the actor who played Luis's maqnservant in Alborada...Picture him a few years younger [maybe 20] with hair down to his collar and a boyish charm about him. Poor Eduardo. Gardenia certainly succeeded in hurting him. I love Sergio Sendel's grins. He is so over-the-top sometimes. Well, I wonder if Fr'ed will be looking at Fer with puppydog eyes now everytime they run into each other.

I dedicate the words of this George Strait song, A Fire I Can't Put Out, to Eduardo and Fernanda.....

"A Fire I Can't Put Out":

I'm finding out how hot
An old flame can burn
You're a feeling I haven't forgot
The love I can't unlearn
You've become a memory
I can't live without
You'll always be a fire I can't put out

I don't know how to handle
The dream you left behind
It's like a lighted candle
Burning up my mind
At least I'm happy knowing
What love is all about
You'll always be a fire I can't put out

So appropriate for our Eduardo and Fernanda!

OT - for Sandy in TN - shocking news downtown today, eh? I'll be curious to learn how McNair died.

Doris, I'm sad. Steve McNair seemed to be one of the good guys....so sad.

For the other bloggers, Steve McNair, a former Titan football player, has been found dead with a "woman" in an apartment in Rutledge Hill in downtown Nashville.

Sandy In TN: That song is absolutely perfect! I'm not a CW person, so I don't know if I did right, but this is the only really decent clip off youtube IMHO I could find of that song. I thought there'd be one of GS singing it, but maybe I just didn't know where to find it.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R3OZeFqTzag&feature=related

Wow...great smokin' lyrics, Sandy. I'll have to see if our library has that album. Country lyrics tell it like it is. Love 'em.

Gracias, since I just couldn't get los nalgas off the chair to read the captains, I missed a lot.

Jardinera654,

That is the song. I spent some time trying to find the original George Strait version but couldn't, it is an oldie, probably before You Tube. Aren't the words perfect? I must say, many country songs are appropriate to MEPS. "What Hurts the Most" by Rascal Flatts is right on for Eduardo and Fernando!!

Sandy in TN

Doris/JudyB/Carlos: I guess I'm finally awake enough for Mini-Me to take over and Mini-Me never suffers telenovela fools gladly. //I watched 3 different clips of Joe Cocker singing that song in three different decades. Definitely Bic-Flick material. Man! I saw a clip of him performing it in 1970 and wondered if I really was ever that young. I graduated H.S. that year. J.C. was so skinny and young, with lots of long, lanky, dark brown scraggly hair, and characteristically "spastic" as ever --but what a walk down the memory back lane that was!!
========
I'm looking for a good couple of naturescape photos from the trip to post. We've got over 600 ourselves, courtesy of digital technology, and there are over 5000my son has accumulated from his and his friends who made it over for the shindig. There have got to be at least a couple decent ones in there somewhere! The whole of Scandinavia, cities, towns and countryside, was breathtakingly beautiful--just like something from a Disney movie set. Midnight sun in summer is an incredible experience, however I know I could not cope with the reverse in winter. I ate whale, reindeer, elk, and wild boar among other things while there. I don't remember seeing a single piece of white Wonder Bread over there anywhere, either (American hamburger joints, excepted).
==========
hgr: Welcome! Glad it was good for a few grins. 9 : ? )
=========
Susanlynn: I admit to Caray withdrawal. You guys rock! As for my boy, Sergio, his subtle quirks and goofy Bart Simpson grins have me and the hubster ROTFLOL all the time. I have never seen a bad guy make you laugh with just a twitch the way he does. And his big blue eyes are to die for.....

Jardinera, welcome back and thanks for the recap. Your trip sounds great and I can't wait to see your pics.

I loved your reaction to Gonzo (he would so deserves Barb and other great comments on his insipidness). It is hard to watch his scenes with her b/c he just plays dead. However, it does make the scenes with Artemio fun when you consider the same actor plays both characters.

And your comments on Damien's audacity to question Fer's fidelity; it was rich. I was yelling at my TV he's a cad.

Sandy~~~I'm not a big country music fan , but those lyrics certainly suit our starcrossed lovers. I like The Everly Brothers version of ''Love Hurts.'' Those lyrics always squeeze my heart. Jardinera~~~Scandanavia sounds great. I love Joe Cocker. ~~~Susanlynn, rewatching Amor Real ...FC sizzles as the hotblooded, coarse Manuel...Caray Caray !!!!

Hey, Karen! I thought the same thing about Rogelio Guerra's interpretation of the two characters as I was writing the recap. I guess it's a testament to the man's acting abilities that he manages to make us cringe whenever we see Gonzo and to feel awed at the likes of Artemio. Unfortunately, I can't say I remember ever seeing him in any other Uni-velas.

I too was thinking that Gardenia had with held both sets of letters until that post asserting otherwise ( back later with proper attribution). But now I seem to remember Eddie thumbing through his letters and then rumbaging through Mama's stuff for Nandas letters. But he knew, yes, he knew that she had written him as well. She told him. So why, in the name of Quezocuetl, didn't he fess up, display his letters and ask for an explanation. I'd bet Nanda would have pressed DD for an accounting. Carlos

Jardinera: You returned in top form. I missed some of the dialogue between Venus and Martina. Thanks for clearing that up.

Sandy: I love George Strait and I love those lyrics.

Jardinera,
Thanks for the recap. You have hit the ground running. I love Scandinavia as well. My father was from Copenhagen. Like you said, the whole area is like Disneyworld. Weren't you there for a wedding? Welcome back and thanks for making your recapping duties a top priority after a big trip.

Sandy in TN

Jardinera - What a wonderful recap! Thanks ever so...and welcome back from your holiday.
I laughed hard when I saw Damian smile (grin?) at Anibal.Or how about when he was sitting in the black office chair and swinging his feet in the scene with VLad? Sendel plays such a great bad guy with perfect slippery mannerisms. I always feel like he is winking a bit at the camera.

How about Dam pinching Flor's cheek ! He is a piece of work, and Sergio seems to be making his character campier with every episode.

Thanks for a mighty fine recap. Love the details. I'm a little confused about one of the initials. In the interaction between BB and Scam you said that AB just glared at him. Is AB referring to Artemio Bravo or Anibal?

Sue: Sorry, I thought I'd taken care of that! I will. That's Anibal.

Pasofino: Don't feel bad about missing some of Martina and Venus' dialogue. I swear I had to go over that scene with CC a half dozen times to make sure I got it. I can't hardly understand the two of them and their slang without the CC.
===========
Variopinta: I almost dread to ask why you were so tuckered, but glad to assist. ; ? )
===========
Elna June Sonoma/Susanlynn: Hubby and I both laughed at the chin pinch Damian gave Flor and the kindergarten kicks in the office chair with his legs while Vlad was trying to talk seriously with him. Sendel is such a clown with the camera on him. Since his character returned home he's made me really wonder if maybe AnyBalls could be right about this guy being an "inepto."

Jardinera, Thanks for the hilarious and sarcastic fun in your recap. I agree that being away from this madness for a couple of weeks brings out the clear hostility toward some of the sillier parts of these telenovelas. That being said, I too miss the Caray gang while away. It's good to go away and good to come home. Welcome home, glad the festivities were fun.

Jardinera, welcome back and thanks for the hilarious recap. Loved the Ding! Ding! Ding! Vlad finally has a clue.

Backtracking to Thursday's episode and Eddie's letters, I really had a memory lapse and had forgotten that Gardenia had included Eddie's letters in Soledad's effects. Hmmm, what else have I forgotten?

Carlos, you are so kind towards Gardenia and so optimistic about her change of heart. Not me though. I think she is going to be a big pain for a long time. She's still plotting and manipulating to win Eddie and she knows his secret.

Yep, ya gotta love Sergio. He makes every role he plays so much fun. Can't believe he was swinging his legs from that chair like a kindergartener and that big grin he gave Anibal was priceless. And his sweet behavior toward Flor almost had me believing his sincerity until I realized it was Damian, so no way. It was all show. Even in the transitions to commercial when they focus on his face, I LOL.

That sleepy time milk Babs has been giving Gonzo has certainly given him brain fog. Yes, he does those clueless looks so well. I also wonder if she will add all that ransom money supposedly for Dr. O into that overflowing Rebecca Sanchez Cayman Island account? Maybe that would make it over the $200 million mark? GinCA

Jardinera, guess your line is where I was reminded of Dam swinging his legs like a kindergartener. You nailed it. GinCA

Welcome back, Jardinera! Can't wait to see some pictures.

It seems that it hasn't yet even crossed Ed's mind to wonder who put those letters on his bed. Esteve either. Understandable, given the shock factor of finding the letters at all.

But eventually, they will wonder. Will they ask the likely culprits, and will Gardenia tell the truth? Or will they jump to conclusions and make an incorrect assumption?

Don't know if Gardenia will confess about withholding those letters. The odd thing is that Gardenia still has hopes of getting Eduardo even though she has had very little interaction with Fr'ed. He hardly seems to know she's around because he's in such a daze about Fer. Fr'ed seems to be on autopilot. The happiest I've seen him was the times spent at the secluded family finca. And speaking of the finca, is that poor old guy still at the bottom of that ravine that spiky heel shoved him down into ????

I suppose the old dude is dead and waiting at the bottom of the hill; if he'd been found, we probably would have heard about it by now!

I'm halfway thru watching my recording of this episode and wonder if I missed something: Did FrEd or Esteve ever wonder exactly where the letters came from? I'm looking for my beanie hat . . . .

Doris: No, we don't think they've had a chance to think about where the letters came from nor who put them there yet. That was not in the script as I recall. No need for beanie adjustments just yet.
: ? )

Thanks Jardinera. I thought my VCR got it all but wasn't sure since nobody was questioning their appearance out of nowhere.
I think my first reaction would be, "Ummm...who put these here???"

CherylNM/GinCA/Julie: Hey, guys! Glad to see y'all here so bright eyed and bushy tailed. I am definitely glad to be back on terra firma and as they say, there IS no place like home.
======
I may have to take exception with Carlos' contention that, after hearing Eddie's tearful history, Gardenia will be readily repentant for the mischief she has just caused. I have to think she was crying because of her own shattered dreams and hopes concerning her non-existent chances with Eduardo. I know she will eventually be rehabilitated, but I secretly hope it's not before she causes a bit more havoc. I believe she's going to be more of a catalyst of facts coming to the fore as she continues doing all the right things for all the wrong and spite-induced reasons.

Jardinera, welcome home. Your take on this novella are greatly appreciated.

I agree with you about DDenia. I do not think her well-intentioned actions are over. Carlos and his DDenia fan club are going to see a lot more of her. Don't get me wrong, I like her for no other reason than she keep the pot boiling. Just think how boring this would be without her.

The only thing I do not like about this TN are the mind games that Barb is playing with everyone. I find them truly disturbing. Maybe she is correct and she is truly crazy.

rsk

rsk: Barbara Greco IMO is a stone killer. She justified her past to Artemio bravo. I have come to believe Artemio Bravo sensed she'd be a natural for all the scheming and "liquidating" she'd need to do in order to accomplish the task he'd set before her. She seems to compartmentalize whatever she does from how she feels personally towards her loss of her little girl. She also seemingly gets an emotional high off the chaos that she causes. So, you're right. That ain't exactly sane.
> ; > )

Last night, I was rewatching Amor Real. Maybe our Gardenia has to take a page from Antonia's book. Antonia, Manuel's [FC] housekeeper after trying to seduce him on several occasions, finally succeeded by climbing in the bathtub with the exhausted Manuel who was relaxing in the tub after having just fought off an epidemic that had stricken the locals at his clinic. Antonia was very persistent and finally accomplished her goal. In Mundo de Fieras, Joslyn [Edith Gonzalos] drugged her hub to accomplish her goal. Let's hope Gardenia gives up her quest for Eduardo before she resorts to any of these tacky tactics. There is such a thing as being a gracious loser.

Thank you Jardinera! Yes indeed a very fine recap! Lord how Evilbitch plays that Dumbzo, he's about as smart as a biscuit! And poor Flor, about to be slammed again. Doh! why didn't she just spit out what she wanted to say!

You crack me up with your quick forgiving of Fr/ed (". . .come to Mama. .") but it's Fer I so feel for. Her Dad is a dummy, her step mom a murderer, her long lost love is wooing her under a false identity and constantly needs reminding why he's doing what he's doin', her best friend is deluded but manages to be a huge thorn in her side not to mention a pain in the arse, both brothers are heartless, one a horse's ass the other an ass hole (take your pick). . .Santi is not turning out to be as bright and quick an ally as I thought cause he's saddled with Aurora. I admire Fer, she's surrounded by ineptness and dishonesty but she holds herself together, her head high and principles intact.

Khalilah

Khalilah: Love the way you describe Fer's situation to a T. That does sum it up pretty darn well.

I had a real fun holiday weekend that got even better with your recap and the comments it's bringing. I doubt that we're gonna hear any more of the man that Babs shoved down the hill. It's too much like the uncle that Acacia shot and no more was ever mentioned about his body. Re Eddie and the letters, I ran my tape back twice thinking that I had missed him mentioning how they got there. With the security team stationed outside, you'd think that he's wonder if it was an inside job, or if security is falling down on the job. To not mention it is not a natural reaction to something so important (to him). One thing I don't understand is why Damian needs to continue the sabotage story. I thought the main reason was to get Vlad Flor's job so he could investigate Anibals mishandling of Pricilla's money. But now that Damian is back in the fold, what is he trying to accomplish? I hope Vlad turns on Damian. I believe that Anibal will find out that he's not the father of Pricilla's baby, but would it be a twist if he accepts the baby as his in order to hide the fact that he's sterile. Something tells me that he has some serious doubts already, but can't risk the scandal. My phrase of the day: When Santiago entered the church and sat next to Aurora, he said "Hace cuenta que no estoy aquí" (Assume that I am not here).

I believe Damian came back mainly to get his revenge on Babs. No idea what his plan is, though.

I think he's also hoping to win Fer over, too - not sure if that's just the thrill of conquest or what. I still think he sort of likes her, and not just because of the challenge.

Julie~~~ I also think that Dam has no money [since he never got his 3 mil] and no place else to go. He seems really jealous of Fr'ed, but then what guy in his right mind wouldn't be jealous of Fr'ed. It's going to be interesting to see Fr'ed's attitude toward Fer now that he's read her letters. I can't believe that they've kept the 2 main players apart this long. I still think that when and if Fr'ed and Fer finally bunny hop , it will be at the family finca. Maybe they'll take a walk and find the old guy's body.

Oh right, I bet Dam is hoping to get some money out of Babs first. Failing that, maybe he can get some money for her hair. I think Lili pulled Babs's hair the last time they rumbled at the manicomio. I was hoping Lili would snatch her bald, but no such luck.

I imagine that finding a dead caretaker near your property could be a serious mood killer. Let's hope they do the deed first, before they take that romantic walk.

Great and funny recap Jardinera....love your style.....would'nt a little communication on all parts be the solution.......but the fun is guessing what the outcome will be.... eventually they will all compare notes and Barbie will be buried in her lies.......love hurts...
BNinCA

Alice: "With the security team stationed outside, you'd think that he's wonder if it was an inside job, or if security is falling down on the job. " Guess Denia will have some 'splainin' to do. Good pick up, but now that I think of it, I don't remember seeing the guards outside the house during the night scenes. Did my mind just disregard that or maybe it's old age and bad sight? No time for me to double-check just now. 9 ; > )

BNinCA: You're right about that "failia t' commun'cate", but if they all did that then our 6 month novela could be filtered down to a 2 hr. American made-for-tv movie and we all know how much fun those are...More like a slam, bam, thank ya...Dam'n!

= 8 ? }

Mille grazie to Pasofino & Jardinera for 2 fabuloso recaps. Love the snark & very funny editorial asides.

Khalilah, I'm with you on poor Nanda's situation. She's surrounded by idiots and devils. She trusted Fr/Ed & now, she's not sure she can.

For the love of all that is holy, please keep Lili safe from Babs.

Gonzo isn't drinking Sleepy Time milk...it's Jim Jones Kool Aid.

Very witty recap Jardinera! Glad to have you back. I think I would have wondered where the letters came from.

Dam's squinty eyes don't do much for me. I did like the leg swinging in the scene with Vlad though.

Hope everyone had a great 4th weekend.

Thank you Jardinera.

Damian's leg swinging and idiot sublime smile was funny but convinced me that Vlad is not the only crazy character. He is still a sex slave to a killer. She took him out of the picture once and can do it again. Even if Fern continues the marriage there will be no money to keep him on his bed of roses. He really has an ego inflated by ill logic.

Has anyone translated the song that Franco and Fernanda danced to?

Now you guys are questioning Barbie's sanity. What was it Dr. O said in his letter he left for Barbie. The next administrator for the manicomo might mistaken Barbie for an patient and lock her up too. Priceless. Lucero smile when she is manipulating or torturing someone, mentally or physically. It's evil but you can see she enjoys this role very much.

I thought I saw Denia covering her smile when listening to EdFr's pain.

Back from a great weekend of good friends, cold beer, right out of the pot fresh crabs, and perfect weather, to find Jardinera's outstanding recap, an dthe great comments. Your trip sounds wonderful, it must have inspired you to outdo your normal high standard of snark and insight. I watched on youtube, why is the picture so dark compared to the broadcast- is there a way to brighten it up?

Bonney, I thought that our Denia was covering her smile, too, when she was turning away, and thought it odd. As her constant defender, I'm wondering what these goofy writers are up to.

Kahlila- you nailed Fer's plight perfectly. Silvia/Fernanda is carrying this plot as the singular unreproachable character and best performer.

Sergio Sendel well i can't say i have ever like him at all. He always seems to play the villian. I think ther are only two roles were he has played the good guy. His performance in this has had me lol. As a matter of fact i really have enjoyed the comedic scenes to pick us up from the emotional ones. Who could keep and straight face when Damian and Vlad were holed up in Vlad apartment and Damian took over like it was his. How about Damian's mother in Gonzalo also sitting there blubbering about her baby and drinking steadily like an sailor and Gonzo with his usual dumbfounded expression. Gardenia and the bumbling thugs. I lol again when that mouth of hers running a mile a minute and Carpio i think that was his name yelled at her to tell them Franco's true identity. Then they gave us the classic villagers coming to rescue father Bosco just like in Frankenstein Luvvvvvvvvv it. Then we have Dr.O skipping into the sunset with his pink luggage filled money given to from Franco. I hope we get see Dr.O again before it ends. I really have enjoyed this novela. I'm not a big Colunga fan sorry ladies. I enjoy looking at his body but he doesn't do it for me. I usually don't watch his novelas either. I don't know why i tuned into this one other than i guess Lucero being the villian for the first time. I got hooked on the story, the performance from the writers. So i will say well done on everyone part.

I had laughed when Dr.O's letter made that crack about Barbie being found nuts. Yeah, Barbie is sort of crazy. She does a nightly round to torture the ants ho-hum... Hilarious.
Even at the gala party she made sure she had her own brand of fun. Prissy also showed she got game. Barb was aware of each and every backhanded jibe from Pris.

I guess you folks missed the look of glee and happiness on dear Gardenia's face when Fernanda walk into the part on Damian's arm huh. Are we sure Gardenia is not related to Barbara because that smile she had on her face eavesdropping on Franco's and Steve conversation was just like Barbara enjoying the aftermath of dirty handiwork. The girl is not only delusional but vey spiteful too. Let's believe like Gardenia hopes after reading Fernanda letters he would breakup with Erika as result of realizing how much Fernanda loved him and never forgot him. Why in the world would he turn to Gardenia. Please Gardenia wake the heck up. That's why your own sister and brother in law didn't trust you with Franco's secret.

Yep Khalilah! That's exactly why she deserves our flawed hero. Now if she can just hold on to her right mind and continue her thirst for knowledge . Oh yeah, when's the next party? Maybe Erroka's house for the engagement.

Ou.ou.ou. Alice thanks for that translation (Hace cuenta que no estoy aqui - Assume that I am not here.) Lovit lov it lov it. Strikes me as excellent for my refrigerator door. Yep. ...Could have used it too when my kids were growing up. Hace cuenta que no estoy aqui go find daddy.
Or how about Damian to Barbie! ANY night!

Hey Jardinera...just a quick technical question...How did you get those musical notes in the title. I often use songs for my titles but have not idea how to put in the notes. Hope it's not TOO complicate.

Thanks for the most excellent recaps, Pasofino and Jardinera. Good to have you back from your trip, Jardinera, and back with a snarky vengeance.
Fr/Ed on the dance floor just killed me when he looked at Fern with his wounded, teary eyes.
He needs to use the letters from Fer as motivation to hitch up his socks and take care of business.
La Paloma

Judy - the easiest way I found was to cut and paste. ♪Sing it!♪

Thanks Julie. I'll try that.

Great, great recap, Jardinera. I had an excellent opportunity to hear and speak Spanish yesterday. I was the only gringa at a baptism and subsequent party for the child of a male co-worker. I also attended his wedding four years ago. It was fun watching part of the Mexico-Nicaragua futbol game with the guys and trying to understand the fast-paced comments about the players. I have the feeling they cleaned up the comments a bit because I was there!

Back to MEPS. I HATE what is happening with Flor. I think Fernanda will be able to save her from the criminal charges being hinted at. I guess the only reason Vlad continued to help Damn with the plot was to make sure all the loose ends were tied up. If the dumb guy at Prolasa were somehow able to prove the docs were't his, someone might have remembered Pris' unusual visit. It's the only thing I can come up with.

Regarding Gardenia. Her reactions upon eavesdropping were a bit mysterious. What I thought was going on is that she was crying for a mixture of reasons. Part of her was sorry for how sad the boy Eduardo had been looking for the letters that never came, and part of her was crying for herself because she was realizing how very much he loved then and still loves Fernanda, putting him farther and farther out of her reach. The sly grin at the very end I can only suppose was that she was happy at the outcome of her actions: make him feel pain as she'd felt it.

Novelera, I'm inclined to agree with you about Gardenia. Somehow however, I missed the sly smile that many have mentioned. Maybe I just didn't want to see it. I still have the recording of the episode so I'll check it this evening. I still think that ultimately she will try to make amends for her missteps although how helpful that will be may be questionable.

Carlos

I didn't see a smile either, unless that was the face she made when Esteve closed the door. (That is, I didn't see her reaction when he closed the door, but I assume she did something - is that when the smile happened?)

I never save these episodes on my DVR hard drive, so I can't rewatch to check my memory. I thought Gardenia stayed there for a short while after Esteve closed the door. I think she still could hear outside the door, just not as well. I thought she gave that sly grin a few seconds later, having heard all she wanted to hear and from satisfaction at having hurt Eduardo. Much of what we see in these novelas is interpreted by us differently! But I don't think I'm nuts because others have commented that she smiled.

Perhaps she smiled because Esteve closed the door making her realize that he was aware that she might be listening. Once again I find myself agreeing with Novelera. I'm sure we often interpret expressions, gestures, and even words based on our expectations, biases, and approval or disapproval of characters.

Fortunately,we don't have that problem with Aurora since she only has 2 expressions. Fear and a sad smile.

Carlos

Thanks everyone for your telenovela tips. I have ordered Alborada from Netflix. FYI, many, many of the TNs are available there. One that they didn’t have is Pasion, I plan to buy it from Amazon shortly, $14.00 for the abridged version.

I’m afraid I’m entering the dark side, that is, agreeing with the guys on a point that they have been making. I am so annoyed with EdFr. He is the cause of so many of the current problems. He breezes into town to avenge the treatment of his MOTHER, remember, Father Bosco advised his not to do this, and that need for revenge has caused so may heartaches, (to numerous to mention). Honestly, his party smirk was telling. In the early flashbacks, Camillo was the one who was really mean to Soledad, pushing her into the pool, not Gardenia or Fernanda. Most of all, the person he is hurting the most, LOVED his mother……her NANA. Sorry, I am a little annoyed with him now!!!! A hero needs to be just that, a hero! Esteve and Fernanda are the only ones that have even a drop of sense in this program.

Hope everyone had a wonderful July Fourth!!!

Sandy in TN

Oh, I agree with you Sandy - FrEd is being a great big poopiehead, and it's unusual (for a telenovela) that he's letting his sidekick Steve be the brains of this operation so far.

But because FrEd's the main galan, I have faith that he'll eventually feel remorse for all the harm he's caused, and will pay for it. I also have faith that he'll pick the right time to finally be smarter than Steve!

As for Camilo deserving some punishment for how he treated Soledad, Jacinto, and others, I think that's part of the reasoning behind this caper with Venus. Of course there's also the concern about him being Babs's spy and breaking into the house, etc. too, but hopefully by the time Venus is finished with him, the Sunkist smarmbag ought to be in enough pain to make up for everything.

Anybody know why he didn't take Natasha to the party?

Perfect word Julie.....he's a poopiehead.
I prefer CHARACTER and SMARTS with my galan, in real life too...maybe that is too much to ask for in TN land.

Of course, all in fun with MEPS and this blog!

Sandy in TN

our pobre Fr/Ed is in love & is not thinking rationaly, just remember FC is at his best angry.

Julie, I had the impression Camilo had had enough of Natasha after their last bedroom scene. She was being way too clingy, maybe asking for a commitment?? But he was definitely up for a new conquest as it seems his pattern is to move on once the woman is hooked on him.

Carolos...two expressions? I think you are being generous with Abora! Besides, screaming/crying all I ever see is blank. I'm sure if you got close enough to her head with your ear, you could hear the ocean!

Molly, good one. Carlos

Natash didn't attend b/c she offered Cad pizza at their last tryst.

As for Denia's smile, it was after Esteve closed the door, as she turned away. I'm not certain that it was a smile, as i was watching it on my computer. I took her earlier tears as sorrow for having caused him so much pain, and for having given up her own battle. Of course, we all know that there are times when we misinterpret what the real emotion is that's being portrayed.

It seem that Gardenia can do no wrong with certain people here. Could it be her overflowing assets, anyway like Carlos mentioned everyone is has their own interpretation of the characters. I'm afraid that Gardenia will put Franco in jeopardy with her big mouth.Time will tell who is right dear delusional Gardenia. As for Florecita i like her the girl has got spunk and backbone. Aurora needs to borrow some from her

Carlos~~~So gallant...giving Adorable credit for TWO expressions and still hopeful that the lovely and lively Gardenia deserves the benefit of the doubt. I don't remember her smiling outside the door. All I remember is the eavesdropping and the crying and the jumping when Esteve slammed that big old door. I was wondering if she was crying for Fr'ed's anguish or for her own.
