MEPS - Wed. July 1 - Cap. 97 - Pygmalion Presents His Fair Lady While Romeo and Juliet Continue to Suffer

It's good to be home and back with you all. Thanks a million Jody for the two weeks of Wednesday night recaps. I will enjoy the second one as soon as I catch up a bit. My Internet connections were sketchy after I left Devil's Tower (nothing ominous in that is there?) I covered 3528 miles in NM, CO, WY, SD, MT, ID, UT, and back with over 3000 photos jammed into every memory device I had on me which makes almost one photo per mile. The Rockies are just too beautiful to describe this year with green like velvet and wild flowers everywhere. Heavy editing to follow but here is one little gem at Devil's Tower I am pretty amazed to have snapped:

So here goes, we will see how much I missed The party is still going strong, Fernanda redoes her excellent scene of recovery of red eyes they should be selling Cover Girl. And how did Gardenia get back to Jacinto and Margarita's in that lovely little dress without ruining her luscious hair or high heels. Fernanda looks disheveled as she emerges nearly breaking into tears as she assures Damian nothing has happened, but Barbara is quick to blame him. The party rolls on FR/Ed greets and grimaces and Errika grins and clings. Esteve assures Venus that she will devastate whomever meets her but for this special occasion her intended target conquest is named Camilo Elizarde. He will try to get you into bed but Venus don't do it. For the good of the mission and of yourself, do not fall in love with this lout (patán).

Said Patán arrives questioning the real reason for this gala, and FrEd likes his suspicion (suspicacia), how did he guess. as Cam guesses that FrEd will announce not the alliance of their companies but the alliance of their (FrEd and Err) lives.

Fernanda puts forth the suggestion that her upset is because of her sister missing and they are here at the lovely party. Errika takes Nanda and Barbara demands that Damian enjoy his honeymoon in 24 hours, he says there is still a lot to discuss but assures him that the rules have not changed, she is the one that give orders.

Santi and Aurora enjoy childhood photo albums and finally get to the oldest of him at 6 months. When he asks if she doesn't have pictures of her childhood, she has none, only school reports (boletas of calificaciones de escuela).

Nanda and Errika drink tequila and play the girlie game. Errika simpers, you can't guess how Franco is treating me, yes this party is to announce our engagement. Fernanda is shocked, but you haven't had an agreement. Errika says, but now I think that Franco really does want to marry me. Fernanda's tears slip, but mercifully she never whines. Errika looks clueless.
*****
Break, Willa wants attention, gets a treat, she follows me from room to room
*****
Errika is sorry to see Fernanda's pain, but spouts platitudes about the calm coming after the storm.(in English it comes before) and they will make plans to be the four of us, Fernanda pretends that sounds like fun.

Santi and Aurora continue to look at the pictures of Barbara and family and Santi points out that Aurora and Barbara's old pictures look alike.

Back at the Jacinto house, Gardenia is still dressed to kill and now she is going to toast that Nanda has returned to her husband and Eduardo is now free to look on the other side, for her she has no doubt. She downs tequila shots with lemon chaser and says the chauffeur (aha, she didn't fly) will take her back to the party. Jacinto wisely points out that Eduardo always was and will always be a goner for Fernanda.

FrEd tells Cam that they can be real friends and wonders if a BIG boy like Camilho would steal his father's car.

Santi finally gets a love scene with Aurora.

FrEd tells Cam that maybe he isn't lying but is playing a game with Jacinto. Cam advises that Americans don't know how to be heavy handed (pie de plomo - lead footed) with underlings.Especially since he has taken on the uppity native who acts like a Spaniard (indio ladino). What do you suggest, that I fire him? Then, what would you say if I told you that your father's car is in my power, are you kidding, I am absolutely serious. Santoro, come, Let's go talk, FrEd laughs like a loon and says I love big jokes (bromas pesadas = closer to jokes in bad taste) , orders a drink from a passing exotic server to lubricate (lubrique) his sense of humor.

Love making bliss for Santi and Aurora and look Mom, no tears. Both of them and we so deserve this scene.

Damian sweeps Fernanda from Errika and says this is enough for today, I want to be with my wifey, they sit while FrEd watches with eyes in slits of bad humor. and here comes the Lovely in soft elegant, tasteful aqua, and oh yes Camilo swoons but where did this beauty (hermosura) come from?

FrEd takes the mike and says we have many reasons (motivos) to celebrate, the association of Lacktos and Power Meelk, he presents Power Milk and Esteve come up with Lovely. Camilo is instantly smitten with her and Lovely Norton is presented as the niece of Esteve, she is Mexican, the main reason Franco gives for wanting this business in Mexico. Viva Mexico. Damian continues ot devour Fernanda's arms and shoulders, not seeming to notice she flinches every few minutes, but Franco notices and says and now there is a third reason I want to share, as he presents Errika my girlfriend who from this moment is my fiance. Gardenia almost storms the stage but stops, Fernanda shrugs off the lurpy kisses from the persistent Damian and almost storms the stage too. The toast for all this good news is presented. Fernanda looks like a drowned cat, Barbara looks like the cat who ate the canary, FrEd looks like he is grinding his teeth into powder.
*****
Break and give Willa a dog treat and let her out
*****
The exotic party continues, Lovely is paraded in front of the Elizaldes, Camilo drools, Damian drools on Fernanda's arm, Errika drools on FrEd's shoulder. Gardenia is in a rage alone in her room, you are rubbing elbows with (te codeas con) the well heeled (las ricachonas)! She hates Eduardo, hates him now and sobs bitterly on her bed.

Esteve wants to introduce Lovely to someone, Camilo and Barbara argue about what Franco is doing. He tells her what Franco said. Esteve wants to introduce the niece to the ambassador. Camilo sniffs the wind.

The love scene is loverly with no tears, Aurora rises in her chaste cotton nighty, and says it is lack of respect to the family to spend the night now that they have done the deed. Santi says no one would be offended by true love but Aurora thinks His dad and Barbara might not agree. Santi reluctantly leaves, she plumps the pillows and an evil shadow crosses the window.
*****
Break and let Willa in, she offers to play ball, I have to refuse, she sulks
*****
The band plays a slow dance love song, Errika asks about the pact again, he covered her for the confrontation with Camilo and she covered him for his girlfriend but she doesn't know who she is, looking around furtively. He agrees and says she agreed to go with the fake engagement. She begins to look into each woman's face and even though Fernanda suffers through Damian's pawing, Errika can't guess and FrEd tells her she never will guess.

Fernanda pulls away, Damian thinks it is because she is feeling for her sister. Clueless Papi says but will Damian forgive us for misjudging him , Barbara says he is so in love that as he well knows, love will win out. She is so right, he says.

Camilo makes kissy, sucky moves to enchant Lovely, (will this patan never learn that women aren't thrilled by that kind of pickup technique??? Errika continues to discuss with FrEd that she wants the engagement to be real, He is at least honest that he doesn't love her and that when they made their pact, she did not love him either. But that doesn't mean that he doesn't like her. She looks hopelessly hopeful and strokes his face while Fernanda continues to come undone. Barbara silently calls her stupid while she watches on the side of the dance floor. Poor Fernanda thought that Franco Santoro was interested in her but he was just amusing himself.

Aurora has another case of the scary bathroom door opening mysteriously by itself, she creeps toward the shower to see help me (auxilio) written in blood and lets out a scream echoed by the sobs of Gardenia in her room. Nice transition. Gardenia takes the box of letters out of the black case and marches out of her room with spitefulness filling her lovely tearstained face.

Esteve, introduces Anibal saying he's nothing more nor less than the General Director of Grupo Lactos, and Camila cuts in saying but he is the most boring. Camilo flirts shamelessly kissing her hand. She responds that his greeting is like an old time movie. Her name, Lovely is suggestive/sexy (sugerente) says Cam asking her to dance.

Esteve allows her to go off and dance with Camilo. As if to punctuate Camilo's claim of his brother being boring, Anyballs wants to talk business and know more details about the work in New York but Esteve side steps neatly saying they should speak of more important/transcendent (trascendente) things and compliments Priscila's marvelous eyes. . Priscila bats her beautiful eyes in total agreement.

End of episode, but don't worry this party is not over yet. Tomorrow Pasofino can regale you with descriptions of the dance floor when they all change partners and dance that dangerous dance...
And Willa sleeps on, good night mis amigos.

Thanks so much for the recap, Cheryl. Your photo of Devil's Tower with lightning is a knockout.
So Gardenia is disintegrating. How sad! Just when I thought her behavior could not get any worse she heads to her closet to retrieve the long lost letters. So NOW is when the letters show up again. What a plot device.
Erika and Gardenia have one thing in common—an endless capacity for self deception. Both characters are attracted to a man who is completely unavailable and both have the pathological optimism to imagine that he might someday turn their way.
I am quite annoyed by the gaslighting of Aurora. First she is a victim of Dominga; now Barbara is gratuitously trying to drive her insane .I know she is written as an annoying fraidy cat, but, geez! It is quite possible for a young woman with Aurora’s history of abuse to be permanently damaged by Barbara’s nasty little games. And to what end? Is Barbara really so angry at the idea that Artemio and Aurora may have been lovers(not)? I just don’t buy that.

Wow, didn't read the cap or see most of the show, but want to comment that photo is just great! How lucky were you to be there at just the right time for a storm and use such great skill to suspend that moment in time. Super cool!!!!

welcome back. I was actually gripped by the show last night, I think the ensemble is pulling together, they actually seemed to be acting. Fer is great, I take back everything I said about her eyebrows.

Sylvia is great in that part. I think the highest accolade is that she doesn't seem to be acting at all. She brings Fer to life in every sense.

Welcome back, Cheryl, and thank you.

Isn't this the second time that Santiao and Auruora have hooked up??

I believe that they previously hooked up at Aurora's house when Santiago dropped by after Dominga died. The night before Artemio showed up at Dominga's door.

Am I misremembering???? (Thanks to Roger Clemons for bringing that word back into the English language - ha.)

Silverfox

Silverfox, you're right. Santi and Aubora did hook up earlier.

Last night's episode was gripping, but it's torture to watch our leading couple suffer so much.

Ha! I knew it! Night before last I caught a glimpse of Esteve and Lovely at the party, but wasn't sure, so didn't say anything. But, I remember that she was wearing an aqua tiered-skirt dress. She really is classy looking!

Welcome back Cheryl. Awesome picture! "Camil-Ho sniffs the wind"--priceless-all the dogs in the complex used to do that when Stormy was in season! And he certainly is a dog. (No offense to Willa of course.)

If I was Fer I would have left already. If my husband/boyfriend was pawing me in public like that I would smack him. How disrespectful. She looked like she wanted to throw up.

No emerald green dress for Lovely but her dress was certainly beautiful. I'm still not digging the hair though.

Abora--Ack. Getting old already.

What was with Fr/Ed giggling like a little girl? That was just silly but the look on Cadmil-ho's face was great. He's such a spoiled brat.

Just checking in to say I think the clothes are period/era fashions. I took a close look at the men's ties -narrow-, the rounded cut suit coat lapels and bottoms. Even Barb's layered ruffle halter gown and Gardenia's gored A-line dress seem to infer a 70's style. I'm loving the fashions. Love the music too especially that snipet of one of my favorite songs from the past, "...never going to dance again, guilty feet have got no rhythm..." Such a torch song. Hope they don't replay that for Fernanda's dance with Franco.
Wonder why she is not trying to control the damage. She could tell Dam to stop slobbering all over me. He is REALly taking advantage of a public appearance event. An elbow could do the trick. Seems she can't think strait ... just like Franco.

I liked Venus' upswept hair and subtle makeup and that dress looked great on her. She looked like a model and muy elegante.

Where was Gardenia going with the letters? I didn't see anything about them in the advance scenes.

Ed/Franco, get a grip, hijo.

Welome back, Cheryl & thanks for the awesome recap, complete with product placements for Wonderful Willa. You came back just in time...things are heating up in Terra de MEPS.

Connie, I'm with you. No way would I stand for the pawing/sliming/drooling from that creep. In fact, my muscles were tensing up every time Damn touched Nanda. If a withering glare or perceptible flinch doesn't do the trick, a well-placed elbow usually works.

Fr/Ed's giggles with NaranHo were a little strange but then I wondered if he was imitating the little 'Ho and thus insulting him...??

Ruh roh, DDenia's unburied the letters...a woman scorned can be dangerous, especially after a few tequila shooters.

Why doesn't Abora lock her door if she's so frightened? Yeesh. [beanie adjustment]

Today is Friday for me...warm up the blender, gang, it's time for margaritas for Maggarita!!!!

:-D

Melinama, I second what you said about the eyebrows, as I was mean about them earlier too.

I was not into this, but I'm getting into it now. The acting is very good. I thought Fernanda's scene in the bathroom was dynamite.

She looks and acts so real when she cries. Not like Babs. Every time Dam touched her I cringed too. It was very obvious that she was uncomfortable. Why couldn't Fr/Ed see that. Are Esteve's cuffs too short or is it just me?

Cheryl, that photograph is incredible. You said us used up your memory devices so I imagine that you are using a digital camera. It must be a good one, my digital photographs are never as good as as the ones I used to take on my 35MM. Also, great recap...I needed it. It is harder to understand when there is music in the background.

Leave it to me to be unfamiliar with an ENGLISH expression in connection to a Spanish program, to "gaslight". I looked it up and it seems to mean inflict psychological terror on someone, derived form two 1940's movies. Is that correct?

Bonney, are you saying that the TN is set in the 70's? They seem to be driving modern cars. As I read what you wrote, it made a lot of sense fashion-wise, many dresses seem to have a 70's look.

Again, Santi and Aurora are in a small way putting 2 + 2 together....saying that Aurora looks like Babs. I thought their love scene was sweet until the espiritu arrived.

I have'nt been around along to be an official welcomer, but WELCOME Amy, great catch on the Eduardo.

I hope Gardenia doesn't burn the letters!!

Sandy in TN

Thanks for the comments. Melinama, I agree that the acting is gripping my attention. The party does give us the chance to see a multitude of mini scenes to advance all the sub-threads of plot. But what did they do with poor Lili and why is she stuck in the bathroom for two or more episodes?

Elna June, I am so disappointed in Gardenia's spiral downward, she is one of my favorites. Errika seems to have not had the capacity to be self aware but she is doing a good job with this confined role.

Hi Fuego de Rosca, thanks for stopping by.

Silverfox and Beth, now I remember the Santi/Aurora lovefest at Dominga's country estate, sheesh, my head mostly retained the crying scenes. Please, please let them give Aurora a backbone.

Connie, I actually was thinking dog thoughts with Camilo's uncouth come on and Willa would certainly agree. Also Damian is so over the top with his possessive public display. No wonder poor Fernanda is so disgusted. A great part of the party scene though, I am really liking her acting and I always have liked her eyebrows. She is a great beauty.

Bonny I am loving the fashion too. I think Lovely-Venus is a work of art. The choice of a pale elegant dress that is so pretty completed Esteve's creation. She was still popping gum when I left so I am amazed at her transformation to Miss Elegant. I hope she doesn't fall for the crude playboy act.

Sandy, I think we are all on an equal footing here, it is what I love about this blog, you are as official as anyone else in greeting. And Hi again, Amy, if you are out there today.

I loved Elna June's perceptive description too. I don't think I have ever used gaslighting but I instantly knew what it meant, great term.

Cheryl, welcome back. What a stunning photograph. Devil's Tower indeed. You really captured a powerful moment. Your recap is very entertaining and funny. It sounds like Willa shares the same sense of entitlement as my own Bonnie Belle.

I usually avoid commenting much about Eddie, he belongs to the ladies here. But today, I feel compelled to say, shame on him. He is directly and deliberately toying with the affections of two women as well as indirectly but knowingly with those of yet a third. All three utterly adore him. They deserve much better.

Gardenia is always gorgeous, but she is both frightening as well as beautiful angry.

Lovely Norton did not disappoint.

Carlos

I could truly feel DDenia's pain last night. It was heart wrenching. I don't think she is a bad person, just a little misguided at times. Fr/Ed has never led her on and has in fact stated that they can never more than a brother and sister. Still, I can understand her pain.

Welcome back, Cheryl, and thank you for the recap. I love the photo, too. Sounds like Willa is happy to have her mommy back, and the pack intact. ;-)

Gardenia is teletransported from place to place, via radio/electronic deviced in her implants. I wonder what she's planning to do with the letters.

I think the time frame for MEPS is current times; they all have cell phones *and* they don't look like bricks. No computers back then like the ones in MEPS. 70s retro clothing is extremely popular right now. Remember in the beginning, Babs had 80s clothing & hair.

Welcome back, Cheryl, great shot of the tower. I am envious, I love road trips, but it's been quite a while since making one myself. Fantstic recap, you've been saving your wit somewhere to let it out here.

Quite a party! Eddy is such a dolt- I realize that this is according to plan, to make Fer jealous, but c'mon, she is sooo reluctant with Dam, he can't see that? That she is so tortured, and he goes ahead with the lame idea of announcing the farse engagement, and didn't he even tell Err that it was for real!?! Como dice mi gemelo Carlos, he is playing with the deepest feelings of three women that adore him, torturing each of them without a twinge of remorse or guilt. (Silvia is marvelous!). Our Gardenia is truly pissed, crushed and out to do something stupid with the letters, we know. I am about to be very disappointed. Would she give them to Eddy to break the engagement up? I think she's capable of anything in her unjustified rage.

Finally, Venus cleaned up very well in her transformation into Lovely. She even aquired a bit of sophistication. Let's hope that it sticks, and that she sticks it to the Cadster very well...

I guess I'm the only one who didn't like Lovely's dress, a little too Carmine Miranda for me. Just picture a big hat with fruit on top and you'll get the picture. However, a girl that beautiful looks good in anything.

I agree with the general line of comments in this blog on FC. While he is still VERY attractive, he seems downright foolish at times, not the FC we all know and love from previous TNs. This isn't a good role for him. I'll go a step further and say he doesn't seem as comfortable in this role as he has in others. I think he sees his career going down the tubes after playing FrEd, an almost "stalker",impulsive, jealous and less that forthright hombre.
Maybe it's just me!

Sandy in Tn

It's hard to beat Luis in Alborada. Big giant sigh....

Connie,

I plan to ask for Alborada for a stocking stuffer for Christmas, if I can wait that long!

Sandy in TN

I think everyone who has watched it (at least the women) find it to be his best role. I haven't seen him in anything else so I'm not an expert. The costumes are beautiful and the setting is awesome. Lots of horses and handsome men with swords.

Some here commented on that 3 level dance floor. Let's see, lots of margaritas, lively music and that dance floor. Gee, what could possibly go wrong?

Carlos

Silvia Navarro is a wonderful actress. When Fer heard from Errika that Franco and she were engaged en serio, I could actually see that tear develop in Fer's left eye, well up, and roll down her cheek. And she couldn't control herself for a second and had to breakdown and cry. What a great performance.

Funny how the terrified Abora forgot about the spirit long enough to get it on with Santi in her haunted room.

Welcome back, Cheryl, and thanks for the powerful view of Devil's Tower in a storm and for the recap of course. Loved how you incorporated Willa's antics into
your writing. GinCA

Sandy and Connie, have you seen Pasion yet? It is impossible for me to decide what has been his best role. Maybe because what ever he appears in -in my opinion- he develops the character in ways I have never seen character types portrayed. And yet he never makes the mistake of playing Colunga as doctor Colunga as businessman Colunga as rancher. You know what I mean?
I have YouTubed some earlier TN's he has been in where the telenovela has been a bomb but he stood out from the trash. I might be willing to vote on his worse role but I feel his best may always be his next.

Great to have you back, Cheryl! Excellent recap. Your photograph reminds me of the famous Moonrise, Hernandez, New Mexico by Ansel Adams. It's the light of the lightning being like the reflection of the crosses in the darker background of Adams photo. Great photo.

I too was cringing over and over as Damian slobbered and pawed. For God's sake why didn't she at least push him away. Those parts of the episode didn't seem like the Fer we know and love.

It didn't seem to me that Fr/Ed was really acting in a cool and calculating way regarding his plans with Erika. He had told her long ago that she would be his official date at the party. I thought they discussed pretending to be novios. The announcement of an engagement seemed to me to be spiteful behavior brought on by seeing Fer and Damn together.

Kudos to the actress playing Gardenia. Her rage and sorrow were well played. My first thought when she grabbed the letters was that she plans to destroy them. But then I thought - don't important letters always surface in TNs?

Totally loved Venus' dress and transformation. She's speaking in a very elegant way as well.

This blog is the first time I've heard gaslight being used as a verb. It works for me. The movie that I remember seeing on television long ago is the one with Charles Boyer and Ingrid Bergman. She's his wife and he tries to drive her insane, making her think she's done things she hasn't, etc.

My all-time favorite role for Colunga is Manuel Fuentes-Guerra in Amor Real. It's also a novela de epoca, but during the Mexican revolution in the later parts. He played a much less polished character than in Alborada and Pasión. He played an illegitimate son of a rich hacendado who ends up inheriting the property when his cruel father dies. His mother was mostly Indian and she was forced to leave him, so he grew up totally alone. His character was always a bit suspicious and much quicker to anger. The ups and downs of his relationship with Adela Noriega were compelling

I'm going to watch that one after Alborada.

Wow Novelera,

That Geroge Cukor film that you saw, "Gaslight", with Ingrid Bergman and Charles Boyer is one of the films mentioned as having a part in coining the phrase "to gaslight." We are just learning so MUCH around here.

Bonney, I'll ask for Pasion as well. It is so good to have alternate viewing for the very busy football/basketball watching season. I should treat myself to one of them earlier than Christmas to have alternate viewing for the Titans/UT fall football schedules. Thanks for the suggestions, I'm doing it!

Sandy in TN

Totally agree Sandy in Tn. Colunga does seem foolish at times and uncomfortable in this role which in turn makes me uncomfrortable. I feel embarrassed for him.

Even though Damian is into displaying public affection (especially after Barb's order to get on with the honeymoon,) perhaps Fer is not up to slapping or pushing Dam away in front of everyone especially when the family is trying to clear his name. However, she could tell him to stop with the pawing in public.

Thanks for the explanation of why Fr/Ed was laughing like an idiot in front of Cadmil-ho. It certainly irritated and unsettled me as well.

So DDenia didn't hot foot it but was able to be chauffeured to and from Las Animas during the fiesta. She's a smart cookie since I doubt Fr/Ed and Esteve told her to use the chauffeur.

Looking forward to more drama as the party continues. GINCA

Coming late to the party, I'm just going to echo some sentiments already expressed. Photo. Awesome. Your shots always make the hairs stand up on my arms. They are electrifying.

Loved your working Miss Willa into the recap. She deserves a starring role.

Gardenia broke my heart last night. Her pain and disillusionment were so deep, so raw...the actress played it beautifully.

Ached also for Fernanda. Another episode where her pain and discomfort (portrayed differently than Gardenia) were palpable and almost unbearable to watch.

Some fine acting going on in this one. Colunga's laugh startled me. As high-pitched as his keening wail at the death of his mother. Unusual in such a manly man.

Sandy and Anon, May-be that's exactly what he WANTS you to feel?.

CherylNM, thank you again for a wonderful recap. You take the words right out of my mouth sometimes! Love this show even more because of all you talented recappers and Commenters.

Oh-noes for Gardenia. BUT let the party go on and on. Abora could just take her pillow to her corner. I wish eSteve would stop telling Lovely (just as elegant an appearance as the Barb) not to fall in love with slimeCad. That's planting the idea in her head that he might be loveable! Come now, even his mother couldn't love him.
Speaking of love and mother...Anept got that lusting look again when he examined Lovely. With the gorgeous Prissy standing right there! That confirms it for me. He can't make love... which is not to say he can't have sex.

Bienvenida Cheryl y gracias por el vocabulario.

Why oh why can't Aurora run & get Santiage? It would take the maid some time to wash that mess off. Let Santiago tell her if shé's crazy or not.

I believe Aurora was a virgin when she & Santiago got it on, so I'm sure she can't be Artemio's former lover. She is most likely his hija.

Fernanda's tears are supposed to be real & she does a wonderful job, Babs are supposed to be fake & she conveys that very well also.

I didn't quite get the car thing between Camilo & Fr/Ed. Is Fr/Ed letting him know that he knows where it is or what?

I can't even standn to look at Anyballs. He is so creepy.

I never connected the giggling of Fr/Ed with the way Cadmil-ho laughs. You're right though. I bet he was mimicing him. Now that is funny!

Great recap, Cheryl, and teriffic photo.

I'm joining the guys who think Fr/Ed is hurting the feelings of both Erika and Fernanda. Not only that, but just think about all the dishonest things he's done:
- lied about his name to just about everyone
- lied about working for Powermilk. Steve has also misrepresented Powermilk's interest (actually, none) in Lactos.
- is keeping someone's car without telling them the truth (isn't that theft, even if the owner's son was an intruder?
- has a new plan to have a hooker use a false name and seduce on of his enemies
- actually paid one of his enemies (Barbara) over a $1 million to trick her into thinking he's on her side
- made a phony grave marker for himself, and has a priest covering for him
I could go on and on. He's broken more laws than we can count, and he's also forced good innocent people such as Jacinto and Margarita to go along with him.

All in the name of good versus evil. He's saying the ends justify the means. But do they?

Interesting how Santiago said the oldest picture of him was of him at 6 months old.

I don't feel sorry for Gardenia or Erika at all. FrEd told Gardenia straight out he could never feel anything for her except as a brother. For her to flip out because he announced his engagement to Erika when she's seen Erika in the house and knows he's been seeing her suggests Gardenia has some emotional problems that she might want to get checked out.

He has told Erika several times he does not love her. He told her last night after the announcement he does not love her. I think the fake engagement is wrong, especially with a woman FrEd knows is in love with him, but he has told both Erika and Gardenia that he does not love or want them.

So any emotional fallout from this is pretty much on them.

Sandy in TN
I cannot take credit for turning "to gaslight" into a verb. I first heard a professor use the term, taken from the Boyer/Bergman movie, in Grad school (1970's). The term refers to Boyer's turning the gas under the lights (presumably before the electric light bulb) up and down, causing them to flicker and waver—then denying that the lights are flickering. HE doesn't see it. Only poor Ingrid, who must be tired, ill, etc. Naturally the bad servants are in on the gig. Eventually our victim begins to doubt her reality and her mental stability is undermined.
And Cheryl, I agree with you about Erika. The actress who plays her is doing a lot with the part and has made an odd character somehow appealing. I am SORRY she is deluding herself instead of wanting someone to tap her upside the head with a designer shoe.

I just turned on the Spanish station & big surprise. Óscar from FELS & Seledad from MEPS is his mom.
Angélica Rivera, Gaviooooota from DA is also in it. it's Mariana de la Noche.

Soledad

My 1st Fernando Colunga TN was Pasion, which I absolutely LOVED. I have Alborada on DVD & I've yet to get around to watching it. In hindsight, I should have skipped FELS* to watch Alborada but the snark factor was so incredibly high on that dog, FELS became an unintended comedy.

Hombre, Fr/Ed lies to avenge his mother and to restore truth, justice & the Mexican way (yup, he's Super Man-O) so it's ok with me. Besides, he is
just
so
fine.

Maggarita

*FELS = Fuego en la Sangre, a truly awful TN deserves a Carol Burnett treatment

I haven't read this yet, but just wanted to add my kudos and thanks to Cheryl for that gorgeous photo. I love pictures of the Devil's Tower... especially when there's no spaceship over it!

Hombre, well, yes, FC is playing the least honorable role I have seen him in with his lying and tricking people, even those who so badly want to be tricked. I guess the delicious part of it is like enjoying how the beautiful sweet faced Lucero can be such an awful demon in this role too. They both seem to be enjoying the wickedness. FrEd and BarBecka both come from backgrounds where they were stunted emotionally and developmentally in youth but we always expect free will to lead the good to the light. Maybe it is expecting too much.

Thanks Julie, I prefer the native tales of the Tower with bears and the tower's growth to save the little girls, to the spaceship era completely.

to an earlier question, yes I use digital completely. I do not miss dark rooms and horrid chemicals one bit. The camera used with this is a simple but powerful little Leica (DLux2) which means I had excellent optics and extraordinary luck in timing.

Welcome back, Cheryl!

I was thinking that the fashions have been more 80s with a bit of 70s thrown in here and there to confuse us. When Camilho arrived last night all I could see was his shiny, too-tight pleated suit pants. But then, his overall look recalls 80s new wave popstar for me. I think skinny ties were the 60s and again in the 80s. My Dad wore the big wide ugly print ones in the 70s. And did you catch Fr/Eddies half black/half white dress shirt! Ack!

I must admit I had been looking forward to Gardenia's smack down to reality. However I did not find it gratifying nor did I feel a lot of sympathy for her the way it ended up playing out. Besides her intolerable mouth, I guess I have a hard time feeling the realness of her attachment to Ed.

Wish I was going to Maggarita's for margaritas. --Liliana

Anon 1:06, you made some very valid points on Err and Denia. Tienes razon. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Eddy say that while he doesn't love Err, that the engagment is for real? I'm going to check you tube.

I also thought he told Errika the engagement was for real even while admitting he doesn't love her. I couldn't tell how she was taking it - whether "I like you but I don't love you" dashed her hopes, or if she felt that was good enough to continue the engagement.

I jsut watched it again, she was a bit surprised that he announced in front of eveyone, especially her folks, kinda wondering if the farce was going to far (my words). He said that the engagemnet was "en serio", then said that the other woman is impossible, that she (Err) would never know who she was.Later he told her while he didn't love her, he likes her. Very confusing, to me anyway.

Painful watching Denia in torment again, but loved the compliment that Esteve gave Pris. She deserves better than she's been getting, hopefully Any?balls will egt jealous, and she'll be in a position to hurt him.

Slyvia Navarro who plays fernanda is excellent. I believe this is her first novela. At the of this novela in the opening credits it credits it said introducing Slyvia Navarro. At first I didn't think she was pretty or beautiful at all. I don't know if it was the camara angle or lighting but I had to take back those criticism of Navarro. The more I watch this novela I have to say she really is a beautiful woman. Her acting and more importantly how her character is written. Truly, truly impressed.

I was confused about Franco's little dance floor conversation with Erika. I was wondering if Franco was worried that Fernanda would overhear their conversation since she and Damian were dancing right next to them. Maybe he said that the engagement was real for Fernanda's benefit?

AmyK

My favorite female characters in this novela are 1. Fernanda 2. Martina 3. Venus she knows how to wrassle too and kick a$$ if needed. 4. Liliana for all of heartbreak and abuse she's suffered. She still tried to take out La Hiena. 5. Florecita who knew she would be channeling Nancy Drew, and she has an backbone unlike Abora.

My least favorite female characters are 1. Aurora/Abora totally annoying get a spine please. Everytime i see her on screen i'm reminded of a real live feamale anime cartoon character come to life. Same big doe eyes and out date bangs. 2. Sorry guys DD Gardenia get a grip, and a clue. 3. Erika see Gardenia both should go and find a therqapist to help get over Franco.

Someone mentioned Anibal checking out Barbara when she came the stairs the other day. Yeah iwas thinking the same thing the boy has mommy issues seriously. When Padre Bosco warn Franco/ Eduardo be careful with his allies and what he reveals to them. I believe he saying about the ones who know his true identity. Let's that means Jacinto, Margarita, Steve, Martina,Lilli, and Big mouth Gardenia. Who almost told Lucio who Franco Santoro really is. Who out these people might betray Eduardo?

Okay, so they went with turquoise. Not my first choice, but it looked good on Venus, and it definitely stood out. (It was funny to hear everyone calling her "Loafly," though.)

While I always thought Fernanda's eyebrows were "distinctive" and took some getting used to, I didn't think I ever actually disliked them. However, I realized last night that the reason I liked her hair so much that way, with the bangs down her forehead instead of swept to the side, was because it hides the brows a bit. The brows aren't awful, but this look seems more flattering.

Ah well. I'd trade faces with her any day, "distinctive" eyebrows or not!

As for her acting, I have to agree with everyone else about how great she is. Her suffering looked truly painful.

I felt for Gardenia too. She has only herself to blame for thinking she'd be next in line for Ed's heart, but even with that in mind it must have been a shock to hear him announce his engagement to someone else who wasn't Fernanda.

To answer Novelera's question, sometimes letters DO get destroyed, but they are never forgotten! (E.g. in Pasion, Camila's sister destroyed the "kidnapped by pirates, sold as a slave, plz HELP!!!" letter, but still admitted to it on her deathbed.)

I don't think Denia will destroy these letters, though. But I admit that I can't imagine what else she'd do with them, unless she's actually going to give them to Ed and taunt him that Fer's lost to him forever because of Damian.

Holy cow, 02:38, she DOES look like an anime character!!

Thanks Cheryl for an excellent recap of a muy exciting episode. I've been away for a couple of days and I'm just now getting caught up on reading recaps and comments for the last couple of episodes. I got a big kick out of reading comments about pros and cons of the product placement ads. They don't phase me in the least. In fact, Dave's comment explained my feelings exactly. Aurora's appearances are much worse than product placement ads for me. I get really engrossed in something only to be distracted by her and Simple Simon.
I love Fernanda so much and really hate to see her hurt. As much as I loved Erika in Passion, I find her very annoying even though she has no clue that she's contributing to her best friends pain. As far as Ed's role, in this love triangle, the guys said it best. I can't imagine how he's going to get out of this mess.
I'm on pins and needles wondering what hot mama Denia is going to do with those letters. Tonight should be fun.

I dislike knowing what happens in advance and never read the synopses. I don't think we've been given the details about what Barbara did to her parents in the novela itself. Or did I miss something? MEPS is fully of mysteries slowly revealed. That's what keeps me watching.

Cheryl, welcome back from your long adventure. Thanks for the recap and the photo (love good lightning shots).
Ah, the intense suffering, the misplaced yearning and kissing while the band plays on, the dancers twirl, and the waiters serve. Doesn’t get much better, does it folks?
La Paloma

I agree. Depending on where you get the synopses, they can be big spoilers. Would rather not read about them, Anon. 3:00

La Paloma, let it play on and on.
No knock out fights But, a lot of hurt goin' on.

Thanks, Cheryl, for the amazing pic and the terrific recap. I am loving this TN and can't wait to see it each evening. I'm talking back to the screen and telling the characters what to say and moaning when they don't. It's just the way a TN should be. Plus, it's such a welcome contrast from the interminable and frequently pointless FELS. This one has flow and fairly frequent action and not too many ridiculous side stories leading nowhere. I love these characters and even though FC is not in his best role ever, as he was in the historical "epoca" TN's, he is totally believeable to me as an angry, sad, unsure FrEd who mostly has to make up his next move based on what's happening around him, all the while trying to solve a mystery and handle loving Fer, but being in an impossible position there as well. Great TN stuff! HGR

Yikes, glad I didn't get too far in Anon 3:00's comment before realizing it was a spoiler. No thank you; it's more fun to guess, and then enjoy as the story unfolds in its own time.

Bonnie, your comment on Aneptiballs is right on. He can clearly feel lust but doesnl't show evidence of loving anyone. I guess Vladi is off on vacation like I was, but Pris is looking totally lovely in her expectant state and Anib is possessive enough to act proud in social settings.

Hi there Judy. thanks for the commentary on my tower. You will be glad to know that I spread some more Tila when I was in Wyoming. And isn't Gardenia's anguish heart-wrenching. Great job. Can't wait to see what she decides to do in revenge with those precious letters. I also feel bad for Eduardo that he doesn't know about them yet. Wonder how long they will make us wait.

Novelera, I am so honored that you even mentioned me in the same sentence with Ansel Adams. While I was photographing the Tetons, I saw one of his fabulous black and white books with the Tetons on the cover. He is the ultimate icon maker in photography.

I had read the whole thing before I thought "I don't remember that" and thats when it occurred to me that it must be a spoiler. I don't want to know the future.

Anon 2:27- Silvia has always been gorgeous, I think that they have done something, ever so slight to the eyebrows. In the intro scene where she splashes water on Eddy, thye stand out more than in the episode.

Babs' past has been kept from us, so far, as far as I know. It surprises me that a synopsis would reveal so much, was it an official from Telerisa? It also surprises me what the avances in the Mexican broadcast show sometimes, almost giving away any surprise for the next episodio...

Hi Sorry to Anon at 3:00PM but after catching up with reading comments, seeing your spoiler and then reading other bloggers' reactions, I did an executive removal. I am also one of the viewers that do not want to know spoilers. Please comment again but let's not spoil surprises or futures for anyone. thanks.

I just read part of the synopsis on the wikipedia website, English version. I quickly ran into a spoiler, then stopped reading. I alreday know too much, some of the suspense is gone. Fron now on, no more synopsis for me...

Just to amplify the "spoiler free zone" promise of this site, I removed the comment at 3:00PM because it clearly violates our social trust here at Caray Caray. It is hard to avoid temptation sometimes when the Mexican version of our telenovelas is always months or even years ahead of the US broadcast and the synopses found on Wiki-like sites they are usually written after the program has started somewhere so will wittingly or unwittingly reveal information that we have not seen yet on our broadcasts. Also YouTube segments can be spoilers to us but can also be a useful tool for the individual who has missed some episodes to go back and catch up. When you learn these things by going ahead it is certainly your choice but just help by keeping your silence. Thanks.

OK, surely I'm not the only one who remembers that precious little girl weeping uncontrolably as she handed Eddie that sweet childish letter as he boarded that bus so many years ago. Both she and Nanda were devastated. I would not be surprised at all to learn that Eddie's mom kept her hopes alive through the years. What better match for her cherished son than the beautiful, bright, resourceful camposina who I believe she loved like a daughter. Don't forget it was Soledad who initially witheld those critical letters from both Eddie and Nanda. And I can certainly understand her righteous indignation and anger at Eddie, Nanda apparently irrevocably stuck with Damian, opting for a silly, airheaded rich fresa instead of even considering DDenia who has carried a torch lo these many years. It certainly appears that he thinks he's too good for Gardenia. I know there is a Spanish word for that but I can't recall it at the moment. It's not been a fun party for DDenia nor for Nanda for that matter. I won't bother to detail how her life has been put in jeopardy on three occasions because of Eddie. OK, I feel better now. Carlos

Thanks Cheryl for the recap and the fantastic photo of Devil's Tower.

Regarding Fer's eyebrows, if I'm not mistaken her eyebrows were more extreme early in the TN. I think lately they are simpler and not as harsh.

She's a great actress...

Ann - NYC

I guess Gardenia will quit her job & go back to Margarita & Jacinto's house. She & Flor can be roommates & compare notes. She is way too upset to continue working for Fr/Ed.

Thanks Cheryl and welcome back. Great comments so far. I'm on my way out the door but have to take a minute to comment on a couple of the comments. First of all I'm glad that I didn't see the spoiler. I like the suspense even though much of it defies reality.
Carlos, you have "right on" observations about the male characters. However you have such a fun and keen sense of humor that is is sometimes difficult for me to know if you are really serious in your glorifying observations about Gardenia. Sometimes they have the feel of trying to evoke a rise out of others. You have the right to your opinion, but be careful, your over the top admiration of Denia is making you look like Gonzo and Babs. The older man who's so captivated by a young beauty that he can justify any of any of her actions.

That was a great recap Cheryl, the details in this part of the novela were a bit fuzzy with me, I don't know why.

For Anon 02:27:00 PM, this isn't actually Silvia Navarro's first novela, this is her first novela in Televisa, but she has already worked seven novelas in TV'Azteca, all in the lead role, she was part of the first generation of actors coming out of the Azteca Academy of Arts and she landed the lead in "Perla" (wich was very good) at 18 or 19, the success of that novela kept her in leading roles until her switch of Televisa, she was probably the most succesful actress in TV Azteca, she has also played parts in TV shows, movies and theatre.

Jarocha

Her switch to Televisa, sorry, I'm sleepy.

Jarocha

Ditto, what Carlos said. Sometimes it seems that what he and I have said in admiration, or even defense of Denia has been taken as approval of her actions, as if I/we have excused her bad behaviour and/or decisions due to our attraction to her. Denia has carried a torch for Eduardo for those same 15 years that Fernanda has, awaiting his return, maybe even encouraged by Soledad for all those years. At least we know that Soledad did everything she could do to DIScourage Fernanda and eduardo. She did not want these two together, and had very valid reasons for doing so. I am speaking for myself, I have never justified any of Denia's actions, I don't approve of several things she's done. However, I do understand why she might have done the things that she's done. I understand her- who she is, her place in the world, her hopes and dreams, however unrealistic those dreams may be. It remains to be seen what these writers have planned for her, she has yet to reveal a flaw that is any greater than the myriad flaws that the "hero" Eduardo has displayed, indeed some of his actions would be criminal, at least here north of the border. I am eager to see what the writers do with her, and will enjoy watching her until she proves herself one way or the other..

Anon, umm... thanks... I think. You are certainly correct on one point, I do relish the variety of opinions expressed here, even(especially?) about the lovely courageous Gardenia. Let me say, however, regardless of the spirit in which I offer up my musings, they are based in truth(at least as I see it). Fortunately, whether someone livesor dies does depend on decisions I make here, so I especially enjoy the goodnatured(certainly on my part) parry that we indulge in here. Now let me further predict(certainly no spoiler) that not only will DDenia continue her work at las Animas, she will put on a brave face and return to the party. Even though I know that she can't have Eddie(his loss) she will prove vital to a happy outcome for all. Would that Aurora had some of the same spunk and brass of our beloved DD. Carlos

Meant to say thrust and parry though lately it feels like I'm mostly parrying. DDave, thanks. Very well said. We are on the same page of the same hymnal. Carlos

Moving right along.....as to the comment of Anon 2:47: Yes,it seemed that Father Bosco was making the point that an insider was not to be trusted. FrEd relayed that info to Fer. I didn't take it to mean that it was someone who knew FrEd's true identity, but someone whom we all trust. Can this be another dropped plot line or should we be looking for a turncoat or mole?

Sandy in TN

I doubt that Soledad would have been so cruel as to encourage Gardenia's crush on Eduardo. Soledad certainly noticed that he wrote many letters to Fernanda and NONE to Gardenia.

Furthermore, Soledad was being blackmailed with Ed's own safety to ensure that he would stay away. If she had known that he was planning to come back (just before she died) to propose to Fernanda, she would have tried very hard to dissuade him. For this reason as well, I doubt that Soledad would have encouraged Gardenia. He wasn't supposed to come back at all!

I don't think anyone EVER encouraged Gardenia with Ed; and it's not a great idea for a woman to expect much from a just-jilted man anyway.

In fact, if Gardenia were a little older, she might even be thrilled to see Erika dining on Fer's leftovers. That makes Erika the rebound girlfriend. Only when he's done with the rebound girlfriend will he be ready for a normal relationship again! (That's how it usually works out, anyway...)

Sandy, I think that you are right about Padre Bosco's cryptic warning. In fact, I think he means that an apparent current ally may already be alligned against him. Hmm, I'm guessing not Gardenia. For now let's party. I expect as much fun here as we had at the wedding. Indeed, where the heck did all these people come from? Carlos

"Insider not to be trusted" - maybe neither a turncoat nor a mole, but perhaps some unfortunate person who could unwittingly say the wrong thing, or say too much to the wrong person. Liliana, maybe?

Or Erika, who said right from the beginning that Franco reminds her of "someone." Maybe calling him "Eduardo" at the party was a subtly scripted slip and not an acting error! (Isn't she also the one who inadvertently tattled to Babs about the significance of the yellow banner in the tree at Fer's First Communion?)

Or he could be referring to someone like Pris, who was very trustworthy until Damian started blackmailing her.

I'm saying all this with the assumption that Bosco was giving Ed a vague warning, motivated by padre-like wisdom, without a specific person in mind. But if he did have a specific person in mind (someone in Bravo's confession), then I still think it's an unwitting traitor rather than a malicious one.

Welcome back, Cheryl , and thanks for the recap. The photo was beautiful. I, too, am an Ansel Adaqms fan. I've enjoyed all the comments, and luckily, I was late to this BIG PARTAY and missed the spoiler.Where to begin ? Sandy~~Run do not walk and watch Alborada as soon as possible. Do not wait until Xmas. I love both Amor Real and Alborada , but FC plays a nicer guy and looks muy hot in Alborada [long hair, mustache and beard , boots, period costume, and a sword] and Lucero [Barbara] is the sweet, innocent heroine. Amor Real is lush with love scenes and bathtub scenes, but FC has shorthair and a not-so-nice character at times. The story, scenery, costumes, musuc, architecture, acting, and writing is superb in both. Carlos~~~Every girl needs a LOYAL friend like you. You are totally devoted to poor Gardenia, but we've all seen it...that line between love and obsession. Just because you loooove someone doesn't mean that he/she loves you. Fr'ed hasn't done anything to lead the poor girl on. Her childhood obsession has grown into a fullblown adult obsession. [I know, who can blame her. If any of my childhood crushes turned out to look like Fr'ed , I'd be stalking them day and night, too. ] She needs to channel that passion somewhere else. I think that Esteve will either end up with Gardenia or Error because I've noticed that in novelas, the galan's best bud usually takes the mujer who was obssessively in loooove with the hero off his hands so that things are wrapped up neatly. And, Carlos, having been on a dance floor on a cruise ship several times when my mantra was ''Don't fall...don't fall..don't fall'', I agree that the elevated dancefloor was an invitation for disaster especially with the booze flowing and George Michael ballads blaring. I can't figure out the purpose of announcing the fake engagement except to get even with Fern for being back with Dam. That didn't work for me in 10th grade , and it's not going to work out for Fr'ed . I agree that FC is playing a less than noble galan in this novela, but he wasn't such a nice guy in Amor Real . In that one, he roughed up his pregnant wife, her aunt, and his own mother before throwing them all out of his hacienda and taking up with the skanky housekeeper and deflowering her. Not nice at all. DDave ~~~I think you're on the right track about DDenia and that bag-o-letters. I think she'll give it to Error or Fr'ed to end the engagement. DDenia, face facts, he ius just not that into you. As for Fern's eyebrows, I've found myself applying a little more of an arch to my own brows as I put on my makeup. So far, no one seems to have noticed. I like Lovely Venus's gown , Babs's is okay, Fern's is okay, but Error's dress makes her look pregnant. Finally, exactly why didn't Adorable just let Santi spend the night in her room??? I think that we're going to find out that Santi was adopted because of that comment he made about not having photos of himself as a very young baby.

Julie, of course everything you just said makes sense. Almost certainly Soledad said many times,"My Eddie's never coming home." And just as surely Gardenia has said,"Yes, and when he does..." Carlos

LOL, Carlos. Your scenario is completely plausible too.

I bet Soledad would have tried to push some other boy on Gardenia if there'd been one around. Jacinto must have been the only "catch" available - how else can you explain how Flor, Martina, Gardenia, and Venus are all still single?

Susanlynn...aha! You found a clue that went right by me because I tend to close my eyes now and zone out during Aurora/Santiago scenes. Not because I don't like them but because I get freaked out by knowing there's going to be another scare tactic coming up.

Santiago adopted!?! That would explain why he's so different from his brothers. Hmmm...lots of mysteries in this one. Glad I missed the Anonymous spoiler so I can stay on delicious pins and needles
* * *

Dr. Carlos...sent you an e-mail. Nothing important, just a by the by....

Carlos, I agree with you regarding Gardenia. I remember the letter Gardenia wrote Eduardo professing her love and saying she would wait for him. And she did! She forgot to factor in his feelings on the matter. A 15 year dream ended when she heard Fr/Ed announce his engagement to Erika. Watching her sob the way she did, all I could do was stare at the tv with my mouth agape. Great job.

Lucky is the girl who has never experienced unrequited love.

She's so pissed right now I hate to see what she's going to do next.

~Caborita

For the Highlander fans out there, I must say that when I looked at Cheryl's photo and saw that lightening bolt , I couldn't help thinking : Quickening !!!!

Susanlynn, for the longest I've wanted to pair up Esteve and DD, but now this thing between Esteve and Venus... Kismet. Julie, we definitely need a busload of good men. RIGHT NOW! Carlos

Carlos, would "soberbio" be a good word for Fr/Ed thinking he's too good for Gardenia? Or are you thinking of something more eloquent or more colorful?

Welcome back Cheryl. Good recap.
I like the picture of Devils Tower. It brings me back to Close enocunters of the third kind. Do de doo do doo. Hard to replicate the keyboard sound here. Heh.

I thought I was the only one imagining things. Turns out they were really playing careless whisper by George Michael. It would be nice to dance with Fernanda with that song. I know I would.

Speaking about Fernanda. I love her eyebrows and I don't care what anybody says about it. We also got to see the debut and presentation of the lovely 'Lovely Norton'. Camilo is sure traking the bait before it is even cast. What an easy target.

Gardenia just needs a hug from us guys. :)

I can see why Damian touching Fernanda creeps everyone out just because it is Damian. If it was Eduardo/Franco no one would complain. I don't mind a little PDA to my girlfriends to mark my territory. Especially during the high school and college years. A little beyond that and not too many guys would mess with your girl unless at a club. Feel free to agree or disagree with me.

Ibarramedia

Loved your title and the "drooling" of said guests and host. LOL funny!

Well if Santi is adopted, I just hope he isn't Barbara's missing baby rather than Aurora being hers. But perhaps, S and B are too close in age.

It is a dearth of nice guys it seems if Venus, Gardenia, Martina and Flor who are all pretty with substantial charms, then Gardenia being obsessed for 15 years isn't so far fetched. Carlos, I love your scenario of Gardenia thinking Eduardo would surely come one day, ala some day my prince will come.

I guess Gardenia is the third rail on this blog.

Julie said it perfectly. No one, not Soledad, and certainly not Eduardo, ever led Gardenia to believe she had a snowball's chance in hell with Eduardo. There's no evidence to support Soledad wanting Gardenia as her nuera. Soledad was completely terrified by La Hiena into believing her son would die if he ever set foot there again. That's why she withheld the letters. Any spark between Fer and Eduardo might mean he'd come back there for Fer and be killed. Let's don't forget she loved Fernanda like a daughter.

That said, I did feel sympathy for her as she sobbed out her pain. But, of course, her first reaction is to get even with someone with those letters.

Thank God the spoiler is gone. Now if I can just forget having read it! Shouldn't be a problem since I can't find my car keys most times.

Novelera, you would love Ximena on un Gancho al Corazõn. She recently told a great story about losing her keys. She takes ditzy to a whole new level. Jarocha called her a superfresa. Tune in sometime if you get the chance. It is truly a funny show. Carlos

Oh crap! Novelera, of course I did not intend to imply any similarity between you and Ximena. Well, of course I'm sure like her you are very beautiful. Seriously, I think it has the potential to be one of the best ever. I've ben trying to woo my lovely profa over to it. There are layers uppn layers of humor in it. Carlos

Hey, thanks for id'ing the Careless Whisper song, Ibarramedia. I had to hear the clip on iTunes after you gave the name.

Susanlynn, I love your description of shipboard dancing. I also feared for the dancers on that wedding cake tiers for a dance floor. What were they thinking? Was EdFran dreaming he could be on the top tier dancing with Fernanda and all those other fools would just melt into the background?

So Novelera and DDave, I hope our short term memory is very short today. Sorry I did not see that spoiler since it happened while I was driving across the river to pick up Willa from her day of beauty at the doggie salon. They do a great job on her, the only problem I have is that in another room in the building they do people hair, I would be so afraid to try them, but maybe they give dog biscuits for patrons that sit up nice and straight...

Oh yeah, Willa looks chic and cool with her curly locks shorn to summer short, only the top of head, ears and tail left with charming fluff.

OK,OK, forget that I mentioned that I had the thought that Soledad ever said anything to Gardenia about anything having to do with Eduardo. Of course, Soledad did not want Eddy to return- nunca!jamas! What made me think along this line was the reason stated by Soledad for discouraging Eddy/Fer was the difference in life station. A campesino like Eduardo would never be accepted into the hacendado realm. (think Oscar in FELS)Life with Fer for Eddy would never be happy. For this reason, it would make more sense to Soledad, and to Gardenia, too, that Eddy would be better paired with Denia; that a future with Fer would be unbearable and undesireable. Of course, this is a modern cuento de hadas, and the handsome peasant has to marry the beautiful princess.

I like the idea of Santiago having been adopted. He has always been the odd duck in the sons of the family- artistic, sensitive and maybe even a bit altruistic. The others are so selfish and rotten inside. That Fer and he could have developed into the people that they are, having grown up in this dysfunction outfit is another beanie-required facet of the story.

Cheryl, the spoiler wasn't that crucial to the storyline, really. It was just some background to the past that didn't need to be revealed. I've forgotten it already. What was I saying? Now, where did I leave that cell phone? Where are those keys?

Cheryl, I meant to mention earlier that I finished part 1 of 2666. This guy Roberto Bolaño is a magician with words. I truly believe he wrote for his own amusement. My lovely profa, Adriana gets exasperated with him but nonetheless is pressing on with this expedition. We finished Detectives Salvages and both agree that it is an undisciplined masterpiece. 2666 so far is easier reading but it has it's moments. He loves toying with his readers. Anyway,I thought you'd be interested. By chance this mos. Playboy Magazine has a RB short story. Of course I only read the artcles and fiction. Carlos

Carlos, Thanks for the commentary on Bolano's books. I have them on my list but the list is all the way down the hall. It sounds like it may be easier to start with 2666 and read Detectives Salvajes after? I don't know if my local village library carries Playboy, perhaps because of its stellar literary content and if patrons promise to look only at the words.... Thanks for the chuckles.

Hi Cheryl:

Regarding your comment above that part of the reason for the picture you displayed was luck.

I recall reading somewhere one of the early great photographers was having an exhibition. A member of the press was interviewing him as they walked through the exhibition and the photographer was explaining how he had taken some of the photographs.

After several explanations, the journalist exclaimed "Why these pictures are the result of nothing but dumb luck!"

The photographer, scanning the room, hesitated for a moment, and then replied: "Yes, I am indeed fortunate to have been more lucky than most with my photographs."

Implying that, while luck can explain one "great" moment, luck that repeats itself again and again and again - maybe has another explanation - like talent.

Silverfox

Silverfox, What a wonderful sentiment in this story. Thank you for telling us this great message. I'm going to use this, I know.

My expectation of this dress was not high. However, when I received it in the mail and tried it on, it completely blew me away! It was so beautiful and figure flattering.
