MEPS - Wednesday, July 29 - Camilo falls hook, line and sinker; Barbie vs. Franco; Priscilla vs. Vladimir

EPISODE #116:
* In the car, Damian antagonizes Fey about Franco and his suspicion that Franco isn't the hero that the family proclaims him to be. Damian thinks Franco wants to ruin the family business.

* Steve, Camilo and Lovely continue their discussion - Steve asks Lovely point blank if she is sure that she wants to break off her pre-existing engagement with Sheik Abdul Hassan in order to marry Camilo. Camilo thought bubbles - "say no! say no! say no!" Unfortunately, Lovely doesn't hear the thought bubble and actually tells Steve "Yes, she wants to break it off with Sheik in order to be with Camilo." She bounces over to Camilo to convince him to say yes also. Steve, Camilo and Lovely sit down. Steve then poses the million dollar question to Camilo -- is he willing, ready and able to marry Lovely Norton. Camilo sits, looks at Lovely and Steve and gulps.

* Barbie is in the office, talking on her cell phone with AB about how Franco seems to be taking control of the family away from her. AB wonders if she's losing her grip on the situation - Barbot proclaims no, she can handle him. They discuss Lili - AB proclaims that the Elizalde family will never see Lili again.

* Tomasa welcomes Franco into the hacienda.

* Steve presses Camilo for an answer. Camilo gulps and then with a thought bubble flashback to his brother Anibal ordering him to get married despite Camilo's reservations about marriage as a whole, Camilo tells Steve yes, he will marry Lovely. Lovely is so happy and leaves the room. Steve talks with Camilo about the huge estate Lovely has inherited from her parents. Camilo is wide-eyed and curious about why Steve is telling him all this. Steve says because he is super-protective of his niece as well as her fortune. Camilo assures him not to worry. Steve welcomes Camilo into the Norton family.

* Fey thought bubbles as she sits in her car about playing the dutiful wife of Damian Gallardo as well as being the happy matron of honor for Erika at her wedding to Franco Santoro. She will put a smile on her face and attend the engagement dinner with Erika and Franco.

* In the living room, Damian talks with his mom about what is happening with his cousin Jacomo as well as the family who is investigating him about some past business deal. Mom is worried that he will go to jail. Damian assures her -- or more or less yells -- that he will never go to jail, not ever.

* Franco meets with Gonzo and Barbie in the office. Franco has the ransom money ready to go in the briefcase and will accompany Barbie to the exchange. Gonzo has reservations. Franco assures him not to worry - nothing will happen to his beloved wife or daughter. Barbie thought bubbles to her self - "Get Real! that will never happen as long as I am in control!"

* Steve and Camilo finish their conversation about Lovely's estate and the engagement/wedding. Steve is ready to celebrate. Camilo starts to talk - Steve excuses himself to go find Lovely so she can join them in the celebration. Alone, Camilo laughs to himself.

* Mama walks Damian back to the car and says hello to Fey. She talks with Damian about a specialist. Damian responds. Fey is curious about the specialist. Damian doesn't explain it.

* Steve finds Venus in the back bedroom. He tells her that Camilo has bought the whole entire story about her inheritance and the so-called engagement with Sheik Abdul. Steve is really having a blast at how easy this is going. Then Venus throws cold water on his celebration. She's scared and worried - will she actually have to go through with the marriage? What will happen to her after all this is over? Steve is stunned and flustered by the sudden outburst of worries from Venus. Right now, he only wants them to concentrate on the plan - for Lovely Norton to marry Camilo Elizalde.

* At the hacienda, Damian and Fey arrive outside. Santiago meets them and tells her that dad wants them to have a brief family meeting in the living room. Fey is eager to go - Damian is outraged that she's leaving him for family business again. Fey goes inside with Santiago - leaving Damian to find his way back to the bedroom by himself.

* Jacinto gathers up the map and his stuff. Margie kisses him and blesses him for luck before he leaves. He assures her that he and Franco know the plan and he will be careful. He leaves. She prays to the Virgin to protect Jacinto.

* At the family meeting, Gonzo explains to Fey and Santi that Franco will be going with Barbie to the exchange.

* Lili talks with her phantom friend Ciro - this time she shows him the photo of Ana Gregorio. Ciro remarks on her beauty. AB enters - Ciro tells Lili to remain calm - AB scolds Lili for entering his office and taking his mom's photo without permission.

* Franco puts the briefcase in the trunk of his car. Fey tells him she's worried - Gonzo is also. Franco assures them both of Lili's safety. He and Barb climb into the car and drive away.

* Vladimir spooks Priscilla in the parking garage again. The pest begs her for five minutes to talk. She reluctantly agrees.

* Flor is back at work as receptionist - per Fey's instructions. Anibal is angry that he wasn't informed or consulted. He stomps off to his office.

* Priscilla and Vladimir sit in her car. She explains to him yet again to leave her alone. He sputters about their baby - she tells him point blank, again, that this is hers and ANIBAL's baby - Anibal is the only father this baby will ever have. Vladimir won't accept it. Vladimir threatens to show Priscilla just how obsessive compulsive he really is on this subject. He climbs out. She sighs.

* Franco and Barb arrive at the first location. They climb out of the car and look around. Barb points down the cliff to the rowboat tied up to the pier on the riverbank. Franco suspects this is a trap - everything is way too well thought out - too elaborate of a ransom scheme. They discuss his suspicions. She wonders about his reasons for being there; he has no connection to Lili or the family really. Franco doesn't answer the accusations, only reveals his suspicions about her direct involvement in Lili's kidnapping.

* AB tells Lili about his mom - how beautiful her smile was until it disappeared. He notes that Lili once had that smile and how it has disappeared over the years also. AB says that Lili isn't crazy at all; he wonders how much she knows of his mother, Ana Gregoria.

* Barb scolds Franco for convincing Gonzo that he cares - Franco shoots back with his own suspicions about her reasons for caring about Gonzo and Lili. Barb claims that she's actually worried about her step-daughter. She becomes defensive against Franco's attacks and suspicions. They exchange insinuations and threats about the ranson - how they could team up and split it between them both. That's when Barbie spouts about whether she'll be sharing it with Franco Santoro or his real identity.

* On the slope, along the tree line, Jacinto stops to check his map before continuing.

* Obregon, in his little hiding place among the rock groupings, holds tight to the dock line of the little rowboat in the water below.

* Barbinator continues to expose her suspicions about Franco as an impostor. Franco sighs and walks back to the car. Barb is relentless and he snaps back at her about breaking and entering his home to investigate him. She tries to get him to tell her who he is. They climb back into the car.

* Obregon continues to watch the boat from his hiding place in the rocks.

* Vladimir arrives at the hacienda to meet with Damian. Tomasa shows him inside.

* Flor greets Priscilla at the office. She tells her that Ani is alone in his office.

* Sitting in the car, Franco and Barbie continue their war of words. He presses her to reveal any proof she has to back up her suspicions about his identity. She blasts back with questions about his secret affair with Fey.

* Gonzo meets with Fey in the office. They discuss how Franco is the family hero and savior. Gonzo says that it's almost like Franco has always been a member of the family.

* Vladimir meets with his "Godfather" Damian Gallardo in the bedroom. Vladimir is desperate and wants Damian to help him win over Priscilla.

* Anibal and Priscilla have a heated argument about Vladimir. Priscilla presses and orders him to fire the guy. He reminds her that she pressed him to hire Vladimir in the first place. She wants Vladimir fired immediately. Anibal says she's hormonally charged and refuses. Priscilla finally is so frustrated that she comes out and tells her hubby that it wasn't Flor who leaked the files to Jaime Cordero - it was Vladimir all along and for that reason Vladimir has to be fired.

* Jacinto quietly sneaks up on Obregon at the rock grouping.

* Franco stops at the next place on the road. They continue with round two of their battle of wits and insinuations about his identity. Barbie threatens him about his identification papers and his sudden presence at Fey's wedding. The battle continues. Franco chuckles with her unfounded insinuations. Then she smacks him with the fact that she actually saw him and Fey kissing at the summer house. He gulps!

ADVANCE -- Barbinator vs. Santoro - the great debate continues...

Wow, that was quick Jody. Great recap & show. Things are really heating up.

I was worried about Fr/Ed getting too close to the edge, thinking about Macario.

Dr O in his camouflage was really getting into his role.

I thought Babs was one up on Fr/Ed about seeing the besos at the campo, but Fr/Ed came right back at her in the avances. I love the test of wits between these two.

Sunkist I think is beginning to believe marriage might not be such a bad idea, Mr. Steel. Talk about gullible.

Hi Jody, thanks for the fantastic and fast recap. Gosh I love watching Cami squirm. I can even stomach Loafley's affected whiny voice if I have to. It's worth it to see Cami get played by Esteve and Co.

Heh, funny that the boat wasn't tied just to the dock but was also tied to an extremely long line led to a hidey hole far away in the rocks. Really, who would even get close to something so wrong?

Variopinta, I haven't seen one of your pics in a while. Dang girl, this is a good one!! FC on a horse, at the beach...le pant, le heave, thanks for the sweet dreams.

Thanks for the great recap, Jody.

Wow, I had my finger on the remote button during that whole Barbwire/FrEd exchange, going back and listening to each one of them several times.

What a fencing match! I was surprised Fr/Ed came right out with his suspicions about her. I had expected he'd play along with her right up until he doesn't put the money in the boat or some such. I also had my concerns about her pulling out her handy pistol and plugging him!

I loved it when he fired right back at her about HER false identity. That was a good shot to the solar plexus, as it were.

Obregon, Obregon, your camo leaves a lot to be desired! For a crazy minute there I was roaring with laughter, thinking he even had on camo boots, but maybe not. The guy is a riot! Is Jacinto supposed to grab him or just observe?

I'm pretty irritated at Esteve for not getting the point of Venus' tears and insecurities. The dolt is rubbing his hands together over his successful coup over Camilo, and seemingly not giving a thought to the fact that Venus doesn't want to marry a cat butt! Not to mention she's half in love with our fiery haired gringo.

What I got from Dam's conversation with his mami is that there was a woman named Paz (anybody else get that last name?), a businesswoman it appears, who Damian apparently defrauded. She has died, but her son is planning to get even and Dam could go to jail. He seems to think he has some saving-his-hide paperwork in his old bedroom.

This embezzlement, if that's what it was, would fit right in with his complete lack of morals in going along with Barbwire's scheme to work at GrupoLactos and get Fer to fall in love with and marry him.

It looks like Vladi may be planning a remake of the Revenge of the Nerds.

I wish it was the end of the day so that I could read this recap. (Gotta go to work now.) I missed a lot of the episode because I was reading and LOLing the previous recap and comments!

And speaking of LOL, LOL Novelera, Vlad doing Revenge of the Nerds. Except you'll recall that the nerds were smarter. :-) (Or maybe Vladi had a smart moment last night when I wasn't looking... I bet it's in the recap... I can't wait.)

Great recap Jody. Did they really think no one would notice the really, really long rope? And that the boat wasn't tied to the dock?

I've about lost my patience with Dam. He treats Nanda so bad. He's an abusive a-hole. Why does she even stay married to him?

FYI everybody--Destilando Amor is on in the afternoon on Telefutura. I think it is the only way we will get to see a phone smashing. So tune in and watch.

Jody: Excellent recap. I always enjoy your superb writing style and appreciate your supplying conversational details. "Vladimir meets with his "Godfather" Damian Gallardo in the bedroom". Great!

I'm with Sylvia - Variopinta, your FC picture was great.

Esteve is being uncharacteristically obtuse in not seeing how the proposed sham marriage is affecting Lovely. For someone usually sensitive and observant, he's failing miserably here.

My optimistic feeling that somehow, someway, Pris and Vlad might end up together has now totally disintegrated. Pris is really desperate to "out" Vlad for the espionage and I wonder if she's really considered the consequences. Once he knows Pris betrayed him, he won't hesitate to claim paternity.

The Franco Barbie banter is great -I agree.

Thanks, Jody , for that speedy recap, and good morning to all you early bird commenters. Increasingly, as I watch MEPS, I think of a quote I read by someone famous [Thoreau , perhaps] : ''Most men lead lives of quiet desperation.'' There is a lot of quiet desperation in this novela...plus some LOUD desperation [Damit, Barbie]. I was surprised that Fr'ed and Barb really started putting their cards on the table. It was a good scene, and it reminded me of a real life argument when you end up saying more than you had planned to say. However, Fr'ed seems to be a little ahead of the game because he knows that Barbwire's true identity [Rebecca Sanchez], but Barbie doesn't know that Franco is in reality [YIKES] Eduardo Juarez! Dr. O never disappoints . I loved seeing him in his hiking /camouflage attire holding the rope . He reminded me of a kid at camp ... like Camp N'er-do-well. I am hoping that Flacco sneaks up behind him and pushes him into the water. My cable was out on Tuesday night, so I didn't get to see the fashions. I don't like Fer's skirt [odd] , but I would wear that cute white blouse. I also kind of liked Prissy's little knitted pullover semiponcho thing. I think I'd wear that , too, It looked handmade. [My sister, mother, aunt, and grandmother did a lot of knitting...me, just a little afghan crocheting] I noticed that Barb must have sent Fr'ed a memo about wearing leather for the ransom business. Also, if Art knows that Lili once had a smile like his mother's , he must have been around to observe Lili as a child...plus he seems to be trying to find out if Lili recognizes his mother. Did Lili perhaps meet Ana G. when Lili was a child ? Damit is doomed if for no other reason than the fact that he is so cold and disrespectful to his mama. I know that she is annoying, but she's his mother , and she worships her ''bebe.'' Damit is definitely damned now. And Vlad is just ...sad. p.s. I'd like to post a photo. Is it difficult to do ?

Gracias, Jody! Kind of an odd episode but you handled it with grace, aplomb & an appropriate amount of wit.

I like Fr/Ed best when he's smiling. His verbal "thrust & parry" with Babs was terrific...but I think viewerville is ready for a little amorous thrust & parry with Nanda.

We seem to have a surplus of male losers: Gonz, Anyballs, NaranHo, AB, Damn, Dr O, Vlad...yikes! Variopinta's picture reminded me of the wonderful cast of male characters on Pasion (still my fave, though I don't have a lengthy TN resume) & MEPS is definitely uneven on the balance of good vs. evil. Esteve is ok but hardly the hottie that Pirate Mario was.

Pobrecita Venus. I was yelling at Esteve "just KISS HER!!!!!" Geez, I guess he couldn't hear me because he totally missed his opportunity.

Pris is really going to regret her little fling with Vlad. He's a nut case & he relies on Damn for advice...not a good combo. I hope Pris is better with a gun than Babs.

When Babs & Fr/Ed ended up at the ransom site on the top of a hill, I was hoping the old man might re-appear, clinging to a vine, pointing at Babs & screaming "asesina!!!!"

Dr. O & his boat...wtf was that? Is Jacinto going to use his really big machete to whack him? scare him? cut the rope to the boat? chop his way out of the woods? Poor Jacinto: stuck on a bike without a cellphone or a gun.

Maggarita
:-/

Maggarita, I thought they were going to find Old Dude too! How funny!

Thanks for the recap, Jody. A neighbor needed to borrow something, and fo some reason, the whole exchange between Dam & his mommy slipped right by me.

Well, Connie, we didn't have to wait for the "ransom" scene. It was pretty interesting, the bantering back and for, and I loved the close-ups (of Lucero!). I was surprised that they both revealed so much info on the other. Babs pretty much admitted that she's not Barbara, (as did Franco, by not disputing the other's accusations), and they just drive away from the site w/o declaring that they would not go thru with it. This is going to develop into quite an interesting and dangerous "rivalry" really fast. How are they going to explain to Gonzo that the drop didn't go down? Of corse, he's such a dimwit they could tell him anything.

Dr. O is such a hoot. I thought that he wasn't going to be included in the plan, Babs took a hell of a risk bringing that "pedazo de inepto" into a crucial role, when AB has his professional minions available. Wonder what Jacinto is going to do, if anything?

Pris is becoming more disappointing as time goes on, now throwing the pathetic Vlad under the bus in the espionage caper, and lying that bro Rolando told her that it was Vlad. Oh well.

Jody, thanks so much for the great recap.

Doesn't Dam know not to say "never". We all know for sure that he is headed straight to jail.

Pris is becoming a real wack job. First she takes Anyballs to a house of ill repute and then she has little fling with Vlad. I think her pony tail is too tight.

Fr/Ed and Barbwire are great together. Sometimes I think they have to bite their tongues to keep from laughing. They really get into the sparring.

rsk

How are they going to explain that they didn't get Lili? This should be interesting.

What a great recap Jody. Dr.O certainly dressed for the occasion. I thought that he he looked smashing in his camo togs. All that was missing was a duck call.

Camilo's unique coloration reminds me of a pt. I saw a number of years ago. It was a man whose wife was a regular pt. but I'd never met him before. He said he felt great but his wife wanted him checked over because of his unusual hue. He was thin and shared almost the exact skin tint as our Camilo. He looked like an emaciated pumpkin. His skin was almost iridescent. His history was that he had seen an informercial by some guy called the Juiceman and thought he'd try juicing. According to his story, he consumed no solid nourishment, only fruit and vegetable juices with carrot juice one of his favorites. He mixed other less tasty veggy juices with carrot juice to improve the flavor. I examined him well and ordered labs. I have to say that except for his odd color he was one of the healthiest(though also strangest)people I've ever seen.

Carlos

Carlos: carrot juice addict? Wow! So that's what NaranHo is sipping from his brandy glass. Who knew?

Maggarita
:-0

When my daughter was a baby she loved the baby food carrots. She started to get a little orange tint around her nose so I cut back on the carrots. I'd never seen that before.

Thanks for a great recap Jody!

I thought it was funny that to go do the ransom drop they both had to wear leather jackets. Is that supposed to intimidate the would be thugs?

They kept showing that picture again, and it looked more like Venus to me.

Great recap, Jody.

Once again, does anyone really have a plan? We still don't know what Esteve's plan is, besides making Camilo squirm. Even if he marries Lovely, what then? What's the whole point? And does it ever occur to Esteve that Camilo could find out that a) Lovely is Venus, b) Steve's not her uncle c) she isn't engaged to the son of the Brunei? I mean, what's the endgame here?

The ransom plan doesn't seem to make too much sense, either, nor does Jacinto's role. Hopefully, some of this will become clearer tonight, but I'm not betting on it.

Speaking of plans, the Damian/Vladimir/Priscilla one didn't seem to accomplish much, either. Damian didn't find out anything to clear his name (Babs just took care of that), Vlad didn't really retain Pris, and Pris is back where she started (maybe worse).

The only person whose plans have been working is Artemio Bravo/Barbara Greco. He successfully had Montserrat killed, got Babs to marry Gonzo, got Damian to marry Fer, Dam was able to spoil that milk at the plant, and he killed about 3 or four of his own henchmen. Oh, yes, he also successfully found Liliana.

Thanks Jody--An important detail at the end of the show as Babs and Franco are sitting in the car. Just as she throws up his affair with Fer and seeing them at the country house, he throws up her affair with Damian Gallardo. How he knows about that, I'm not sure, but I was thrilled that he had something to throw back at her.

Dona Gringuita

Hombre: yes but it all took 15 years. I guess AB's on some kind of an installment plan.

But I agree, everyone's plans are stoooopid.

Maggarita

Dona, I think Fr/Ed was told about when Denia saw them in the parked car getting their freak on!

I just love that little head tilt thing that el guapísimo does, like "so there, and what do you think about that". I'm so in love.

FC can convey so much with an expression, a gesture.

I don't understand any of these plans, I wonder if the writers do.
But Dr O is hysterical & Babs & Fr/Ed are great. I'm worried about Jacinto, I hope he's ok.

With Esteve & Venus, it's so hard to analyze the things that concern you. You don't know the feelings of the other person. It's more understandable with Venus, knowing her background she thinks Esteve couldn't be interested in anything serious. And like so many men Esteve is afraid of being shot down. Does he really think Venus is interested in Camilo?

Re; Venus & Esteve- Neither thinks that the other would be interested. Esteve said so to himself-why would such a beautiful woman be ineterested in such a gringo dork. Venus wondered why a rich, sophistacted gringo would be interested in her. A lesson for all- we so often hide our thoughts and feelings- ever wonder what opprtunites in life we might have missed just because we didn't speak our thoughts?

DDave~~~So true about the Venus/ Esteve situation...both of them in love with the other but convinced the feeling isn't mutual. It's like when you go to a class reunion and someone says, ''I had such a crush on you when we were in tenth grade , '' and you're thinking likewise so why didn't you ask me out when we were in tenth grade. To quote Darryl Hall's lyrics ...a missed opportunity. I suppose the lesson is to take a chance, even if you get shot down because you never know , the other person may feel the same about you.

I didn't know that Fr'ed knew about Dam and Barb going at it in the car. I thought DDenia didn't tell him because she didn't want him to think that he had a chance with Fer because her hub was unfaithful. When did Fr'ed find out ? Did DDenia tell Jacinto and Jacinto tell Fred? The photo of Ana Gregoria doesn't look like anyone to me, but she is thin , so she could have grown up to be the Primary Care Bruja, I suppose.

How horrible it would be if Esteve allowed/encouraged Venus to really marry cruel and vioilent Camilo for ANY reason. People are not chess pieces to be moved around for any endgame. What is wrong with Esteve anyway?

Also, why wouldn't Fr/Ed use some of his armed guards to shadow him to the ransom drop instead of exposing good ol' Jacinto to who knows what? I'm sure the guards would welcome the change of pace from aimlessly patrolling back and forth at Los Animos.

Variopinta, I've noticed that head tilt/nod in every FC role. It's so manly it gives me the shivers. So anytime, I'm annoyed with Fr/Ed, it's never anything personal against mi guapo, my lindo, FC.

Enjoyed your succinct recap,Jody.

Jackie

Fr/Ed found out from Jacinto and/or Margarita very early on when he first returned and revealed himself to them about Babs and Damian. It was one of the things that drove me crazy when Damian was in hiding and his reputation was in tatters. It was sort of understandable that they didn't want to cause problems for Fernanda when they thought her marriage was going well, but why not tell her when she had started to find out that he wasn't such a great person? It would have been easiest for Fr/Ed to tell her during that period when they were having all their secret meetings. I mean, he did spin all those tales about Babs being evil and having met Eduardo and all that. He could have easily added this bit of info and told Fernanda some lie about how he found out. Wasted opportunity!

Sorry, that was Vivi in DC. (Too angry to remember to sign off.)

Ever notice that los guardias have their fingers on the triggers most the time? Must be constant homeland security level RED...

Thank you Jody for the funnie recap and the great translation.
It takes courage to face rejection when one expresses one's thoughts. I will be happy when eSteve and Vehnus (as she corrected him) get together not because they will be a hot couple but because they showed courage and went for what they want. Fernanda! Read this!
Now Vladi, he's a nut, is just pitifool. Shows courage but he's a reject.
Oooh-bregon, he's a nut but take pity on him not because one could love him but just cause he is a riot!

I forgot to say about that one mile teather rope to the row boat, and uphill no less, ?!!! wait, I'm collecting myself even at the memory... One sudden pull down on the dock Jacinto. Just for fun go pull that rope. Maybe then Obregon could find that nice old guy. And he's a doctor? Yep. Just the ticket.

And why does the boat stay up against the dock like it is tethered there, when its being held up the hill by the good Doc? Hmmmm better stop trying to make sense before I cause a brain bleed.

I was wondering that too Molly. How does it stay so close to the dock?! Beanie adjustment.... So is the plan to put the money in the boat and stand there and wait while Dr. O pulls it slowly away from the dock? I must have missed something.

Did anybody else expect it to be a boat with a motor and a roof to hide the escaping kidnapper from rifle shots?

I noticed that Jacinto was carrying sth, it didn't look like a rifle, but it was long with sth red o orange sticking out of the bag. Maybe a shovel.

They are probably just going to mark time tonight, leaving us in suspense until tomorrow night. Only 52 episodes left.

Someone asked about putting a picture on your post. I was hoping someone better than I would answer.
Go to your profile, there is a place where you can browse & add a picture from your gallery or type in the url (I think that's what they call it), and save.

Thanks for the recap Jody.

Maggarita and Connie - LOL, I was thinking the same thing about the poor old man popping up to accuse Barb of murder.

Susanlynn - ITA with you regarding Dam(it). He is doomed based on how he treats his mother. And his current treatment of Fer makes me sick. I wish someone would tell her to leave this guy and then tell her he's playing house with Barbie.

DDave - ITA with you about Priscilla. She keeps making bad decisions and its going to bite her soon.

Less than a sword fight, Fr/Ed and Barb/Becca reminded me of a slap fight. Continue the conversation calmly, and suddenly SLAP! Some more talk, then out of nowhere, SLAP!
