ENDA Tuesday August 18. Slowly they start to move on.

Backwash: Romina sprinkles chili powder on her lollipop and suggests to Paloma that Carlota has been acting too nice. Could she be responsible for Iñaki’s death? Meanwhile, the wicked witch sits in her study reading a book. I tried really hard to figure out what she’s reading, but this isn’t in HD. I’m pretty sure it has a naked torso on the cover, though. Carlota! I’m shocked! I guess she really does have the books which substitute for the internet. The phone rings, and Arcadia says they need to chat.

Fresh swill: Paloma is in serious denial, and says Cruelota may be evil but she would kill no one, much less Iñaki. Get real, says Romina, of course she would, and it would much more likely be Iñaki than some nobody, because eliminating him gives Cruel power over Paloma once again. Paloma still insists that young healthy Iñaki just woke up dead of a heart attack, but Romina sagely says heart attacks can be provoked.

Carlota tells Arcadia they have nothing to discuss; the case is closed, and don’t call again or Carlota will have her arrested for extortion.

Paloma continues to insist that Cruel could never kill anyone because she’s super religious. Apparently religious history is not in the curriculum at Paloma’s school. Romina tells her to believe whatever she wants, but she might consider that everyone close to her dies and Cruel keeps telling her that she is responsible.

Carmen gives Emiliano the medallion and photo to give to Paloma. She thanks him for being such a good friend to her son and says she understands why Iñaki said Emiliano was the only one he’d trust to take care of Paloma. The doorbell rings, and Emiliano goes off to answer it before he can ask whether Iñaki actually left Paloma to him in his will.

Orlando struts into Camila’s shop and, after the necessary words of shock and loss regarding Iñaki, Orlando asks Camila to dinner. She accepts, just as Rafael appears.

Carmen’s visitor is that lousy rat Alonso. She jumps up in surprise, letting something in her lap fall to the ground. They did a good job with her makeup; she looks genuinely destrozada rather than perfectly made up but with a big glycerine tear as so many telenovela ladies do. Anyway, he says he wants to go with her to Spain to put the ashes wherever she wants, and he asks for her forgiveness for being such an idiot, and hopes Iñaki can also forgive him from wherever he is. Heaven, Alonso. Trust me, we viewers know he was angelic even if you couldn’t see it. Carmen actually hugs him and gets snot and tears all over his sweater.

Carlota intercepts Romina as she descends the stairs just to remind her that she’s only letting her visit Paloma because of the current circumstances; it doesn’t mean she thinks she’s an acceptable friend or anything. Romina retorts that she knows very well how mean and controlling Cruel is, and she isn’t fooled by the recent nice act. Romina had better watch her back. If people keep talking to Auntie Maim we won’t have any characters left by the end of the story.

Rafael and Orlando are charmed, I’m sure, to meet each other, and they both sign up for the mutual admiration society centered on Emiliano. That Emiliano, what a guy, says Orlando. I say, show us, don’t tell us. After Orly leaves, Rafa tells Camila that thanks to her help with the designs, they have a new investor and all is well! She acts believably surprised. Then he says he wants to buy a painting for the two-faced harpy, oops, I mean for his lovely wife, and Cami says the previous one has already been sold so they go to choose another.

Meanwhile, dumb cluck Diana is heading out to the rosticería to buy the chicken for dinner and runs into Inés. Diana gives up the hot gossip…she and Rafael have reconciled; the poor man just could not live without her and beeeeeegged to be taken back. Her poor henpecked husband might possibly have experienced that from another perspective more closely aligned with reality. Inés is still politely “concerned” about the factory and all the people who will be out of work, but Diana says not to worry, the factory is better than ever and will be the most important in the region. She lets Inés twist her arm (Inés says nothing and Diana barely takes a breath) into confessing that she, Diana, was the one who came up with the great new product line that saved the day. Inés thinks Diana is such a great wife.

Paloma is still sitting in bed musing on Romina’s suspicions, and she quickly throws the comforter over the huge stash of junk food Romina left as Carlota flings open the door. Paloma can’t lick a lollipop and look at a possible murderer simultaneously without choking, and the secret is revealed when Carlota runs over and sits on the bed to pull Paloma’s arms over her head and smack her back. Carlota says not to worry, that dear Romina is a good girl, just a little misguided. Paloma looks at her sideways and scans for clues.

Rufi and Macarena prepare dinner and discuss Mac’s potential date with the doc. Mac says she hasn’t decided whether to go, but they’re still mourning (en luto) so it’s too soon anyway. Rufi says to go out and get on with life would set a good example for Paloma. She thinks Mac has to do it to keep her promise to Sagrario, even if she only goes out one time. Mac finally agrees but emphasizes that she’s only doing it for Paloma. Sheesh, what a martyr.

Emiliano drops by the witchery to deliver the goods to Paloma. That’s not a euphemism; not yet.

Romina, meanwhile, has dropped by her mother’s shop to attempt to control her mom’s life. She notices the new flowers from Orlando and is not happy to hear that Camila has accepted a date with him when Romi doesn’t want her to marry again. Camila rolls her eyes and says she’s not thinking of marriage, she just wants to go out and have friends and live while she can. Romina says in that case Camila shouldn’t complain when she makes plans regarding Emiliano or her father.

Rafael brings the new painting home to surprise Diana. She hates it. She only wants paintings by famous artists, so she tells him to return it. He’s sick of her attitude (that was a short honeymoon) and says she’ll never change, and he’s not going to return the painting but she’s welcome to do it herself.

Emiliano asks Paloma how she feels. Well, duh, dude. He gives her the photo and medallion and says that Carmen also asked him to take care of her. He tries to console her but she is obviously inconsolable, but he still tries to find a silver lining by pointing out that she made Iñaki’s last days so happy he would certainly have preferred that to a long, long life without her. They agree they will still be good friends and they both say te quiero. Paloma sobs and Emiliano looks at her all moony-like. Musical flashback of happy Iñaki memories.

The song (Fin del Capítulo by Tommy Torres):
Ya no llores, mi niña
Ya no mas corazón
Sé que duele tanto, tanto
Cuando en el alma muere una ilusión
Muere una ilusión
Yo te doy mi palabra
Que afuera ya salió el sol
Es tan difícil ver el cielo
Cuando el dolor nubla tu corazón
Nubla tu corazón
Aunque tu cuento de princesa
merece un final mejor
Mañana vas a darte cuenta
Que en este capítulo
Él es el que perdió
Seca ya tu carita
Y arréglate el camisón
Él no merece tus lagrimas y
Yo te aseguro que mañana estarás mejor
Un poquito mejor
Y aunque tu cuento de princesa
Merece un final mejor
Mañana vas a darte cuenta

My hack translation:
Don’t cry anymore, my child
No more, heart
I know it hurts so, so much
When in the soul an illusion dies
An illusion dies
I give you my word
Outside the sun is gone
It’s so hard to see the sky
When pain clouds your heart
Clouds your heart
Even though your princess story
Deserves a better ending
Tomorrow you’ll realize
That in this matter
He is the one who lost
Dry your little face
And fix your shirt
He doesn’t deserve your tears and
I assure you that tomorrow you’ll be better
A little better
And even though your princess story
Deserves a better ending
Tomorrow you’ll realize
That it’s so obvious, love
He is the one who lost
That there’s no bad but that some good comes
It’s not such a contradiction
When the storm is very strong
You don’t see the horizon
And even though your princess story
Deserves a better ending
Look in my eyes and realize
It’s so clear, love
He is the one who lost

Some days later:

Natalia strolls with Cristóbal in the church yard and tells him they’ve just returned from taking Iñaki’s ashes to Spain, and Alonso is still very disturbed and wants the family to go on a trip and spend time together. Cris offers condolences and advises her to do it. He tells her he’s definitely going to Real del Monte, and she asks him to pay special attention to poor Paloma.

Back at the big house, Paloma decides she is going to return to school the next day.

Over at the office, the Emiliano Admiration and Support Society holds a meeting. Orlando is so worried about Emiliano burying himself in his work and never leaving the office that he tries to get him to come along to the Express office to mail a package. When Emiliano bursts into tears Orly figures out that this is about Iñaki and Paloma. Emiliano bizarrely says he would never have wanted Iñaki to die. “Well, of course, none of us would,” says Orlando. “But none of you are in love with Paloma!,” Emiliano wails. Well, how does he know? Orlando says it isn’t his fault Iñaki died, regardless, and he never betrayed his friend so he has no reason to feel guilty. But Emiliano is all conflicted and doesn’t know how to act around Paloma now. Orlando tells him to get on with life and quit wallowing.

Romina calls Germán at work and complains that Emiliano works all the time and doesn’t pay any attention to her. He correctly interprets this as a booty call and his little angel and devil start to battle it out.

Paloma returns to school and gets lots of compassion from a nun and Angélica.

Carlota and Macarena stroll past the church and Carlota notes that now everything is back to normal. Mac runs off to see Padre Jacinto, giving Arcadia a chance to seal her doom. Carlota tells her not to be foolish (necia) but Arcadia is apparently suicidal because she tells Cruel she knows that she poisoned Iñaki with belladonna. Cruel says no one will believe her, and how dare she try to defame upright respectable her and cause more pain to the families who are mourning? Arcadia doesn’t give up, but shows her a number and says she has three days to come up with the money. In totally unrelated news, guess who probably has less than three days to live?

Mac returns and says the padre is definitely leaving, and Cruelota should help her plan a goodbye party, and a welcoming for the new priest. Oh, won’t that be fun?

Cris packs up his stuff; he’s planning to go in a few days. The senior priest gives him a little cross figurine as a token of thanks. Cris drops an envelope out of a book he’s packing, and picks it up and looks at something inside. He tells the pictures (I’m guessing, we don’t see them) you were my only love, but that’s all in the past and I’m going to bury the pain in Real del Monte. Then he tears up the pictures and chucks them in the wastebasket.

Paloma tells Angélica she’s wondering whether someone killed Iñaki. Angi thinks she’s just looking for something to blame since she’s angry and confused about his death. Paloma moves on and says she wants to get a scholarship and go to college which would make Iñaki proud of her. Maybe she will study music, since that’s what he loved. Angi says she should definitely go to school, but she should study what she likes and lead her own life; Iñaki would be proud of that. Paloma is worried she’ll forget him; Angi assures her it won’t happen.

Emiliano is happy that Orlando is going out with Camila. Orly says maybe he’ll become Emiliano’s stepdad-in-law, but Emiliano thinks that’s unlikely as he’s only stuck with Romina until he manages to make a breakup stick.

Avances: Rafael praises Camila’s fine qualities. Aron tries to bond with Paloma. Cruelota plots. Romi and Germy are caught by Liliana in flagrante flirtigo. Emiliano and Paloma stand together in the rain, and we all know what that means.

Man this was funny right through the last sentence of the previews. Oh yes, standing together in the rain...we ALL know what that means.

Also loved your witty take on religious history (no killings, surely you jest) and German "correctly interprets this as a booty call" and in "flagrante flirtigo". Kat talked about "confessus interruptus" in her recap. You both were on a roll.

Thanks Julia. It was a relief to learn no one died and no animals were tortured in this one. But I'm sure there are more trips to the cemetery planned!

Julia, stellar from title to finish. Translating Fin del Capítulo was a wonderful, greatly appreciated surprise. Gracias...

In addition to what Judy noted, I also enjoyed "backwash","fresh swill" and echo your sentiment to Alonso about Iñaki that "Trust me, we viewers know he was angelic even if you couldn’t see it." Amen.

Emiliano can barely contain himself around Paloma. He needs to get a grip and tone it down...

Are we sure Di isn't Romina's mother? Di's disdain and refusal of the painting echoed Romina's callous indifference to the beautiful car she received. Blech.

Waiting patiently for Chris' appearance on the scene.

Great recap and thanks for the lyrics of the song. If anybody read my previous post, I'm obsessed with the music from this TN.

Cruelta bought a big fat bag of belladonna and it looks like it won't be going to waste! I thought it was funny how Arcadia already had the figure written down to show Cruelta how much she wanted.

Julia, glad you got to recap the first "moving on" episode. And you did it in your always hilarious style. "Backwash" and "Fresh Swill" got it started and Judy already highlighted some of your other zingers.

Yep, Aracadia needs to be making her final arrangements right about now and Romina also needs to watch her back. They have no idea who they're messin' with.

I'm glad Rafael is already wise to the not-changed Diana. Looks as if he'll wind up in a triangle with Orlando over Camila, but who knows? Some of us would like to see him with Natalia.

All I can say is ....great recap everything was captured greatly.

The relationship emiliano has with his boss is strange, am I the only one seeing this? I mean he talks with him about his love life, called him while drunk, cried, etc... all these things which to me is kind of unprofessional, and shouldn't he be having those types of discussions with his father?

I'm glad Romina let cruel know something about herself, and poor innocent Paloma....who truly believes that evil critter could not have killed her beloved Iñaki.....I mean she really needs to wake up and smell the coffee, her and a couple of others.

I also cannot wait for Cris to make his debut in town. And Diana I agree with you about Emiliano containing his self around Paloma.

And last but not least Diana and her helmet for hair. She truly reminds me of an adult version of Romina. The smug attitude like the world should stop and go for her.

It's a good thing everyone kept telling us in this episode how wonderful Emiliano is; otherwise I certainly wouldn't have known. Totally inappropriate office behavior, when he should be discussing these things with Rafael or one of his other friends...and every time he's hovering around Paloma just waiting for the right moment to make his move as though it will happen ANY SECOND I kind of want to shoot him with a tranquilizer dart. Besides which he still lets Romina cling to him like a leech when he knows he's not into her.

Can anyone think of a good nickname for Emiliano? I feel too formal writing his full name every time but all the short forms I think of sound girly.

Thanks, Julia, I was chuckling all the way through your entertaining recap. My favorite line, among many...when Carmen tells Emiliano she understands why he was the only person Inaki trusted to take care of Paloma, the door bell rings before Emiliano can ask whether Inaki left Paloma to him in his will. Ha Ha.

Emiliano is getting on my nerves. He is just inches from Paloma's face and says te quiero to her. Boundaries are being crossed here in his comforting her.

Rafael doesn't realize it but Camila is interested in him. The look on her face when he said he reconciled with Diana wasn't just disapproval of his getting back with the selfish harpy but a look of disappointment in my opinion.

I was wondering if Paloma was really choking on the chili on her lollipop and Carlota helped her out on the spot with that slap to the back? She had me convinced she was choking.

GinCA

Yes, Julia. Emiliano is NOT Inaki.

GinCA

kynyetta, "helmet hair" :)

GinCA, interesting about Camila being interested in Rafael. I will have to watch more closely.

Julia, I'm annoyed with Emiliano right now and my first reaction to an alternate name: "octopus boy" is said only in frustration but he needs to keep his hands to himself.

Diana

Diana looks like a Jetsons character.

So how's she going to spin things to Ines when Rafael inevitably leaves her again?

Terrific stuff, Julia! Tons of laughs. Others have highlighted some of the best zingers, but I just have to re-mention in flagrante flirtigo.

Thank you for the lyrics – good job in looking those up late at night. I loved the song, but the one line él no merece tus lagrimas sure didn’t fit Inaki.

I didn’t get to comment yesterday, but what was on my mind then and today is that if the actor playing Emiliano wants to have a lucrative future as a telenovela galan, he needs to up his crying. He did have one crying scene yesterday in which he did well, but otherwise, he just looks too fakey-simpy when he tries to be weepy. This makes me contemplate William Levy in our last show, who I thought gave a so-so performance, but boy, was he a terrific crier. That and his gorgeous looks will keep him employed for years to come.

Speaking of crying, I was wondering how the actors prepare for these scenes. Carmen in particular is a very moving crier, as is Paloma. I’ve read that they shoot multiple scenes in one day, so how do they stay in the mood? What is the cast like on lunch break? Are they all sitting around being morose so they can be prepared for the next shoot? Do they go home at night drained?

I thought the painting was pretty awful too.

Thinking of Emiliano and his boss… I hope young people watching this show don’t get a distorted idea of what the workplace is like. On other shows, almost nobody is actually working, and on this one at Plata de Qualidad it’s like a girlfriend secrets fest, only it’s guys. I’m surprised they don’t do each other’s hair.

Thanks for the wonderful recap. I too loved the backwash and fresh swill, they are winners.

I just received my latest TVyNovelas magazine and EDNA is rated #2.

Also, why does Paloma want to study music? She hasn’t shown any talent for it so far. She seems to have some artistic talent, but neither music nor art are ways to make a lot of money. Maybe the music thing is just so the actress gets to sing later on.

Maggie, how is that not like a real workplace? I'm currently working on a short book about what my working life is like, so I've been thinking about this topic quite a bit...and, it's really not so far-fetched, all the gossiping and goofing off. I must say, though, the crying is a bit much, but I've been in Orlando's position with that as well. And I work mostly with "manly" engineer dudes.

Really, it's career counselors who have a totally distorted idea of what working is like, in my experience.

(and no, I don't anticipate the book will ever be published, but my mom will find it entertaining).

Most people who are professional musicians start really young. Paloma did apparently show a lot of aptitude for painting, and one of the nuns suggested she consider that as a course of study. Maybe she can supply Camila with some better stuff for her shop; stuff even Diana might like (heck, she could probably just sign "Picasso" or "Rembrandt" on the bottom of anything, and Diana would be super impressed with it and never know the difference).

Thanks for the recap Julia, excellent in it's snarkiness. Slowly moves us past Inaki.. RIP. :)
Kynetta... "I mean she really needs to wake up and smell the coffee, her and a couple of others." ... Agreed, open up their eyes. As long as they don't drink the coffee.. they'll be fine. :)
I have to agree with my wife, Ines and Diana sort of look alike, anyone else think that?
I think Emiliano is really quite nice. I don't see how you all can put him down so much. The difference between him and Inaki, to me, is only that... Inaki was fun. :)
I would say you would use Emil for a shorter version of his name... Not very fun... but then that is Emiliano. :)

JeffMN

That’s so funny, Julia! But given that the majority of people quit their jobs because they hate their bosses, the chances of getting one like Orlando are pretty slim. I wonder why Emiliano treats him like a father figure when he has a nice daddy a home.

JeffMN – I think Emiliano is a decent chap. I just wish the writers and director wouldn’t push his saintliness quite so hard. It’s a bit of overkill.

Maybe we can call him Milo?

I really loved that last montage of memories of Inaki. Some of them must have come from episodes I missed, because I never saw them before. It really did make the romance between him and Paloma look fun and sweet with lots of laughter. I don't think the same is in store for her romance with Emiliano. I see lots of angst and tortured gazes in the future...

-Vivi in DC

how 'bout Em?

I agree with Maggie. Emil (trying that out) isn't bad, he's just overhyped at the moment. So far he doesn't have enough personality for me to like him the way I liked Iñaki, who had hobbies and spunk and whatnot.

Reading all of the comments, I just had a terrible thought. If Paloma ends up with Emil, Diana will be her mother-in-law. She will go from bad to worse. Maybe they will move to D.F.

I can hardly wait for Padre Chris to hit town. How is Cruelta going to explain things?

rsk

Em sounds to feminine... Auntie Em, Auntie Em. :)

JeffMN

How about Mil as a nickname? You know, as in what the writers think he bats...?

How about Milo for Emilio? I find him very attractive but I'm just watching the ads, not following the actual story (except for that horrible night when I watched poor Iñaki begin his camino hasta la muerte.

Maggie... "On other shows almost nobody is actually working, and on this one at Plata de Qualidad it’s like a girlfriend secrets fest only it’s guys. I’m surprised they don’t do each other’s hair"

LOL! WOW LOL!

And I think Paloma only wants to study music because of Iñaki, its like a way to keep him alive in her heart.

And my vote is for Milo as a nickname for Emiliano...everything else sounds girly to me and haha to someones comment say "auntie em"
