Manana Monday Sep 21 - Luke I am your father *psshhh* *psshh*

Santiago has a hard time processing the fact that he’s going to be a father.

Padre Bosco tells Fr/Ed that Artemio Bravo came to see him and that he promised to produce Eduardo’s dead body Monday night.

Barbara tells Gonzalo that Aurora’s baby is Camilo’s. She convinces Gonzalo that they have to leave Camilo in jail or he’ll try and hurt Aurora, or try to make her abort the baby.

Camilo suffers in jail. Good.

Fr/Ed hurries Padre Bosco into a cab before Fernanda comes out and finds him there. He gives the Padre a manly one-armed hug, complete with hearty pats on the back.

Santiago wants to know who the other man is that Aurora was with – Fernanda tells him it was Camilo. Predictably and understandably, Santiago freaks out.

Erika argues with her parents about moving the wedding date. I thought her mom was on board, but I guess since her dad came home they are all fighting about it again. He doesn’t understand what the hurry is, is she pregnant? She says no! She is just desperate to get married immediately or she’s afraid she won’t get to marry Franco at all. Her dad says she’s acting like a spoiled brat teenager. He’s right. He says fine, if she moves the date, he won’t go. What does she say about that? She tells him that’s too bad for him, she’s getting married on Saturday anyway.

Santiago says he will kill Camilo. Fer says chill, he’s already in jail. Santiago says why? WHY? I couldn’t figure out if he was asking why is Camilo in jail? I guess he means why does Camilo always do this to him.

Fr/Ed plans his assault on Artemio Bravo’s house. Martina arrives, Silvestre’s eye surgery was a great success. Fr/Ed tells her what happened to Esteve.

Santiago wails about Camilo’s history of screwing him over constantly. Fernanda says there is one thing he can’t take away, Santiago’s baby! Uh oh, bad foreshadowing here.

Camilo tells Barbara to get him out of jail or he’ll tell his father everything about her. She says no he won’t, or she’ll get him cut out of his inheritance, what little of it there is left. She says he must follow her orders. She told Gonzalo that the baby is Camilo’s to protect him. If Gonzalo thought the baby was Santiago’s, Camilo wouldn’t have any support from him.

Fernanda and Santiago agree that Santiago will pretend to go back to Florence, but they’ll meet up later at a hotel where he’ll be hiding out. She and Franco are trying to take down La Hiena, they will continue working on it with Santiago’s help.

The mailman brings some mail to the Lactos front desk, where Gardenia is holding down the fort. Metiche Gardenia flips through the envelopes and finds a big card for Fernanda conveniently unsealed, she reads the note from Erika that the wedding has been moved up to this Saturday.

Fr/Ed tells Esteve, now in a wheelchair and looking like (pardon my French) complete shit, that the wedding has been moved up to THIS Saturday. Esteve does the “jeez wtf” sigh/eye roll thing.

Gardenia, now in boobie enhancing regular clothes, sneaks out of the office.

Esteve can’t make Fr/Ed see reason. Fr/Ed says he’ll do the only thing left to save Lily, show the real Eduardo Juarez to Artemio Bravo.

Fernanda and Santiago put on a very badly acted farewell performance, Santiago leaves to get in a cab. Barb sees this happen and is beyond happy that Franco Santoro is such a wonderful ally, getting her orders done so quickly.

Esteve says ok then what happens when Barbara learns the truth about his identity? And Fernanda? Fr/Ed says he’ll do what he promised, save Liliana. Esteve says then what, Fernanda will be so impressed she’ll forgive you? Fr/Ed says no, that will never happen. There isn’t any hope for him and Fernanda.

Flor looks for Gardenia, can’t find her anywhere.

Gardenia is at Erika’s house, Erika greets her while on the phone, going over extremely mundane and boring (to me) details of flowers with the florist.

Barbara visits Aurora. She says she is going to tell the whole truth now, but first, does Aurora have any relatives? No. Barb says she doesn’t either, that she knows of. She tells about her abusive parents, one night when she was only 11 she ran away from home and that same night the house burned down with her parents sleeping in it. Wow what a coincidence. She has a flashback of herself being treated roughly by her father, a greasy looking guy, while her mother is passed out drunk. She manages to knock him over and he hits his head. She douses the place in gasoline and sends it up in flames. Back in the present she tells Aurora that someone then came into her life and took care of her and gave her her new identity of Barbara Greco, his name was Artemio Bravo. Even though she was only 11, he made her his woman and everything was fine until she was pregnant. Bravo had other plans, so when the baby was born he told her it was a boy and that the baby died at birth. She never saw the baby at all. Now she discovered the truth – it wasn’t a boy, it was a beautiful girl, it was YOU Aurora. You are my daughter! They cry.

Santiago takes a cab to a hotel, already in high spirits somehow, even right after hearing about how Camilo screwed his girlfriend. He arrives at what is apparently the only hotel in all of Mexico City, the same Suites where Rico Suave stayed when hoping to woo Fernanda. He tells Fernanda he’s there (by cell phone) and she says she’s on her way. They hang up and Fer sees the card on her desk about the wedding, she thinks “so it’s a done deal.”

Gardenia tells Erika that Franco and Fernanda have something going on between them.

Barbara tells Aurora that she had a feeling about her the first day, when Santiago brought her to the house. She is telling her the whole truth now to try and make up for all the mean things she did and said to her (this doesn’t make any sense, but whatever). Aurora says “where is my father?” Barbara says she already said, he disappeared when Aurora was born. Aurora says WHERE? Do you know where?

Bravo yells at Liliana, he wants her to tell him the truth about Franco, etc. He threatens her and says she really is an Elizalde, she is just as bad as the rest of them.

Barbara says why do you want to know, he’s a horrible person, forget about him. Aurora asks if he looks like Gonzalo, Barb says yes. Aurora says WHY does he look just like Don Gonzalo?

Gardenia goes on about Franco and Fernanda. Erika says she already knew. Gardenia says she wanted to warn her so she could call off the wedding in time. Erika says no, she will marry Franco if it is the last thing she does.

At the hotel, Fernanda gives the diary to Santiago for him to read. She tells him who Artemio Bravo is and how he is related to them. Santiago says he must see Aurora right away.

Aurora says she saw Bravo at the house back in the pueblo but Santiago was the only one who talked to him. She asks Barbara if he knows that she found her after all this time, Barbara says no and he can’t find out. Forget about him. Let’s leave, we can go anywhere, I have lots of money. Aurora says no, she won’t go anywhere until she meets and talks to her father.

Dum dum DUMMMM

The date for the Gran Final has been announced – Monday October 5. That just so happens to be my turn to write again. However, especially if it is longer than a one hour show, we can take parts and make it a joint effort, whatever you other recappers want to do. Just two more weeks for all to be revealed and resolved!

Thank you for the recap Ferro94! I have to say that I *love* your title! Very fitting!

-NetGirl

Nice title and recap, Ferro94

Aurora and Santi are related? YIKES!

Ferro, I can't believe you didn't comment on Barbara's ugly crying at the end. The soggy sneer, the hinged robotic bottom lip, surely she's a contender.

Has Santi been pumping iron in Italy? That boy is about to bust out of his shirtsleeves, yowza. Surely he and Aurora won't really be half first cousins, or first half cousins, or whatever they are supposed to be. Will they?

Thanks Ferro!

Great recap.......loved your title....could not stop laughing....oh wow.....if Gonzalo is Santiago's dad and Artie is Aurora's and they being half brothers with different moms and Santi and aurora having different moms, they would be about 4th cousins......can they not marry after 2nd cousins?.......what a trip......yikes.......does anyone think Erika is really acting desperate now.....what a terd...she is going to marry Ed/Fr just so Fernanda won't get him.... i think this is her logic......I cannot understand Ed/Fr logic right now....especially if he loves Fer and she loves him and they are both single...where is the problem.....don't understand...well we shell see...pretty soon....the final chapters are near.......oh no.......BNinCA

BNinCA says after thinking about the relationship between Santi and Aurora....i'll bet santiago was adopted and Camillo knows this and that is why he has always been mean to him......just a thought....

Great recap, Chris. High on the snark-o-meter, indeed!

I think dear old dad was raping Babs when she was 11. He was leering at her scrawny little legs before he grabbed her. Moms was passed out drunk, and at that point she'd had enough.

Artemio Bravo wasn't quite so perverted. He waited until she was 15 to jump her bones.

Does Aurora really want to meet her pops or is this a stalling tactic? Fer told her under no circumstances to leave with Babs.

Well, either we have Aurora and Santi as MORE than kissing cousins or Montserrat had a lover, who is Santiago's real father, as several commenters hypothesized a while back. I was proved wrong. I was expecting some other father when Babs told the whole story, but AB is Aurora's father, which explains his emotion thinking she died in the cantina fire.

Did I miss it? Why in the world won't someone tell Santiago that Aurora wasn't a willing participant, that she was drugged?

Looks like Gardenia's plan to ward off Erika blew up in her face. I don't think it's close enough to the end for her next move (in the same scene) to be to tell Erika about Eduardo. I think she's going to go away and live to fight another day.

Nahhh. I'm not buying that Artemio is Aurora's father. That would make him the same type of guy as Jeronimo, someone who throws a few bucks at a child just to get him/her out of the way. His whole revenge plan is based on what happened to him and his mother - he would do the same thing to his own child? He can't see that? I think Evil Barbie is lying.

Two more weeks. Sigh, I am sad that Lili never got a life out of the manicomio (Artemio's house is just another version) and what a raw deal that actress got! "Just look upset and don't say anything." Bummer.

The weak points in this plot are just creaking and groaning. For instance, Fr/Ed's continuing insistence on marrying Err even though he clearly can't stand her. For another, keeping Aurora's drug-rape story from Santi. Preposterous beyond beanie capabilities.

I agree with those who are extolling Fer's acting abilities. They toned down her eyebrows and now I cheer her too. Fr/Ed on the other hand has been such a rotten actor in this show I'm not sure my love of him will recover.

Good title, Chris!

I picked a hell of a night to miss the show, huh? I'm going to have to find some of this on youtube. May have trouble watching tonight as well. Extra thanks for the recap!

So what's the deal with the inheritance now, any grandchildren who are born soon will split the dregs of the inheritance? Doesn't that create an unfortunate situation for the kids who get born later on as well as their parents? (OK, right now Fernanda is the only remaining potential parent, but Lili and Camilo aren't 100% out of the running yet.) Possible resentment between cousins, siblings, etc. due to unequal means? Not to mention resentment between parents and offspring, maybe? What was the rationale behind that?

ARE Fer's eyebrows toned down, or have we simply gotten used to them? I can't tell!

I think AB WOULD do that to his child, Xlntperuvian - I think that AB is irony-proof and doesn't realize that his twisted obsession with revenge, using his child as a pawn in the scheme puts him in at least the same league as Jeronimo if not worse.

Nice job, Ferro! Darth Barbie...LOL!! She swapped out the long black robe for a form-fitting slinky red dress but the comparison is perfecto.

Was it my imagination or did Abora cringe at Babs' confession? Maybe that's why she's so obsessed with meeting Mystery Dad...she's hoping her genetic material has SOME redeeming qualities other than what she inherited from lying, scheming, cheating, psycho Babs.

Oh Fr/Ed, give it up. Your scheming hasn't gotten you anywhere, much like Babs.

Shrieka has no shame. DDenia could tell her that Fr/Ed was in the hot tub with Cad & Shrieka would still say "I'm marrying him regardless." Yeesh.

I don't think Santi & Abora are related. I'm sure they'll throw something crazy at us in the final hours, which apparently are going to be overstuffed with resolutions galore.

Maggarita
:-/

Thank you Ferro for the wonderful and entertaining recap.

So La Hyena was abused and became a murderous firebug at 11; and Don Artemio made her his lover at 15. Wow! Yipes! I think Aurora was more stunned and shocked than crying for joy at finding her mother.

Ferro - Melinama posted a note last week about doing the grand finale as a team effort - don't worry, you will have plenty of help recapping that night.

Jody :)

Great recap Ferro. Wow, things are definitely moving along. I can't really blame Babs for what she did to her dad. What a pig!

Santi did look like he put on some muscle. A far cry from Meester James.

I say let Santi give Cammiiii the ass-whoopin he deserves.

I'm still trying to figure out how they are going to do the DNA thing when they dig up "Eduardo."

Excellent recap Chris. I'm not at all surprised by last night's revelations. We've been given clues all along that Santi is not a regular Alzalde. Remember the lack of baby pictures. Erica's desperation is really becoming palpable. I think that it's dawning on her that it's just not gonna happen. I thought Bab's daddy looked a lot like Miguel. You really can't blame the little girl for her rash act, but she certainly was cool as she set fire to her parents. Can you say sociopath?

Carlos

I loved Erika's dad. I thought he said he wasn't going to pay for it or something like that but I think that was just me putting words in his mouth. Spoiled brat! Ha. Maybe she should stomp her little foot and flop around on the floor like my daughter used to.

Chris - thank you for the recap. LOVE your title, too. LOL!I missed this episode for a rockin' Boz Skaggs concert at the Ryman.

Camilo suffers in jail. Good. Priceless!

Julie - if you find the whole/entire episode on youtube, please post a link for me. I posted on the previous recap that 'esnovelas' stuff has all been removed from YouTube.

Kudos to Erika for moving up the wedding date, so the best man can look his worst for the photos.

Maybe Santi can hide out with Vlad and start a support group, "fathers anonymous", until both their babies are born.

"I'm sure they'll throw something crazy at us in the final hours, which apparently are going to be overstuffed with resolutions galore."
Truer words were never spoken... er... written.

Looks like all mypoints have already been made by others, but it sure is fun finding out some of the background. Poor little Rebeca Sanchez, tragic story, but I can't ezactly understand why AB would have taken her "under his wing", so to speak, was he planning his revenge, using her as a tool from the outset? Too bad she didn't make the best of her bad situation.

My votes-
1)AB is Babs daddy, she hates him as much as she hated her own father.

2)Babs is Abora's mommy

3) Santiago is adopted, he is the father of Abora's bebe, therefore no inbreeding, the tree of them can live happily...

Not sure how this stupid wedding thing is going to be resolved. Maybe my Gardenia will do something even more rash to try to torpedo it- hope not, I hope Err decides it's not such a good idea- yeah, right. Twice she's said something about marrying Fr if it's the last thing she does, not a good staement to make. Liked that daddy Augustin stood up to the quincenera like he did- I like that character ( better than the sleazy lawyer the actor played in a psat TN).

The real puzzle- what is Eddy's plan? Does he really intend to present himself as Eduardo to AB? A suicide mission, but there are better ways to avoid la boda. At least he is showing remorse for all the pain his actions have caused the people that he cares about. He is still a horribly flawed "hero".

Sylvia I think I have become immune to Barbara's horrible crying/croaking. Whenever she starts that my wife and I purposely start a conversation between ourselves so we don't have to listen. I guess this is working because I didn't think about it for the recap!

Santi and Aurora aren't even the same generation, technically - His father is the half brother of her grandfather. I have no idea what that makes them but I'm sure far enough apart to marry legally, but not far enough apart for it to not be creepy. For SURE either AB isn't her father, or Gonz is not Santi's father. One or the other.

Oops- thank you Chris, for snarky recap...

Oh something I forgot to point out - while Barbara did say to Aurora that AB created her identity of Barbara Greco, she did NOT tell her what her real name was. I guess Aurora has it on the birth certificate, but it will surely not be spoken out loud in the presence of Fernanda or Eduardo, who know that name from bank accounts, etc etc etc until five minutes before the end of the show.

Thank you for the recap Ferro! I was laughing as soon as I saw your title, It's awesome.

Novelera: Yeah I think we were meant to infer that Babs was being sexually abused by her father at age 11 (who knows of he did it more than once) and she did say that Artemio made her his when she was 15. She also said that her parents took her turns to beat her.

I feel like this begs the question: Was Barbara evil or did her parents and Artemio made her the rotten person we know now?

The episode can be viewed with this playlist.

Where do I get a new beanie, mine is worn out from too many adjustments & I'm sure I'll need a good fit for Sortilegio.
Oct 5th, great I won't miss anything & you guys can catch me up on Sortilegio.

Fernanda didn't tell Santiago that Aurora was drugged!!!!!!!???????,say what?

Erika didn't seal her fate did she, that she will marry Franco if it's the last thing she does. Keep going Gardenia, tell her he's just the campesino Eduardo.

Wonder who Monserrat was having a fling with that produced Santiago?

Clearly Santiago is not like Samson, a haircut produced some fine muscles. He can use them to pound the mierda out of Camilo.

La niñita Babs did a great job catching la adulta Babs evil expressions.

I've been catching a little bit of La Madrasta on Telefutura (just found out I had it). Haven't the slightest idea what's going on, but Martina is in it & Fernando from FELS. Fernando is one of my favorite bad guys along with Damian. Strange, but I just can't stand Camilo.

Tks for the great recap & comments.

At this point I don't think I'm telling anything I shouldn't, but the cast of characters from Wiki lists Dolly 1 & Dolly 2. I do remember a one point not recognizing her. I think maybe they had to chg actors. I think it was around the time of the big party that Fr/Ed announced his compromiso to Erika.
Anyone else notice it?

I saw that on Wiki also but couldn't remember when they were different. Are we going to post a synopsis of the new show or is it better to read it on Wiki? Wiki tells you more than you need to know sometimes.

Variopinta: La Madrasta was my initiation to TNs. I stumbled upon it one night while mindlessly channel surfing. I got hooked when I started to keep track of how long it took for someone (anyone: male/female/plant/animal) to cry. Then I found Caray & realized how much I was missing since I couldn't keep up with the dialogue.

Keep a ready supply of tissues at hand. Sob City!

maggarita
;-)

Variopinta-

I think the change happened really early. The Dolly that is there now is dfinitely the same Dolly that thought she was pregnant, which was very early on. Where I remember there being a difference is in the very first episodes when Dolly calls Erika about getting her hair colored (really random scene to advertise a hair product) and it turns out that the color her mom was buying was the same one the hairdresser was giving Erika. I don't remember what the actress on the phone looked like, but I remember once we finally saw Dolly at home when she and hubby returned from their trip that I felt I was seeing that actress for the first time. I can't remember what she looked liked when Erika spoke to her parents via phone when they were travelling through Europe.

Ferro- You said that "Santi and Aurora aren't even the same generation, technically - His father is the half brother of her grandfather." But Gonzo and Artemio ARE half brothers. And they are the fathers of Aurora and Santi. So they are of the same generation.

-Vivi in DC

Yeah you're right, somehow I got an extra parent in there, it's just all so messed up. I guess because AB was a father figure (sort of) to Barbara, who is mother of Aurora - somehow I got two generations there which of course now makes no sense. These damn shows and their convoluted families. And I'm sure we'll find out this week or next that the parents are actually different than we think anyway.

Irony indeed: Jeronimo impregnated Ana Gregoria at 15 and sired Artemio; Artemio impregnated Rebeca at 15 and sired Aurora.

I guess Production got a good rate for the room at the Suites International ****

Eduardo doesn't make sense. Maybe Camilo's gang needs to oops upside Eduardo's head to knock some sense into him.

Aurora is Babs undoing. I don't think Babs told Aurora she killed her parents, it was like "I ran away and somebody set fire to them that same night."

And why kill her mother?

Wouldn't it make more sense to test Deaduardo's ADN to Soledad's ADN instead of Ramon's, since Soledad could have been with someone else to produce Deaduardo? Just because Soledad married Ramon Cruz doesn't mean her child is his.

DDenia has finally met somebody more desperate for Eduardo than she is. DDenia could have told Erika that Franco and Esteve were lovers and Erika still would be like "Nope, I'm marrying him if it's the last thing I do."

"Camilo suffers in jail. Good". Great Chris, my feelings exactly. Thanks for the great recap!

Doris, glad you had a great time at the Ryman last night because if you are the official beanie maker, you will be working nonstop for a year making all new beanies for the MEPS viewers. Wow...this novela is so very ridiculous .

Melinama, I have been agreeing with the ideas in your comments on the character Ed/FR and further the abilities of FC in this TN for the last several days. What a truly terrible role for FC, no one, not even Sir Laurence Oliver could have pulled off this stinky, stupid roll with any credibility.

Sandy in TN

Great episode, great recap, Ferro...always love your style.

Abuse scene of Barbara as a child was horrible and the "dead eyes" as she watched the fire perfectly blended into adult Barb's dead eyes. Feeling a lot of sympathy for la Hiena as she has been abused by men (and women) for much of her life. Also, fire-setting is supposed to be typical of children who were sexually abused.

Yes, I believe Fernanda's eyebrows were toned down...when they show the early scenes from her meeting Eduardo and dousing him with mud from her car, they're a lot more prominent. Now they're softer and the feathered bangs also soften her face. She's looking good.

Loved Aurora's non-stop cringing when hearing the mommy news. Figure her insistence on meeting Artemio is just to delay having to run off with Barb...something she has no intention of doing.

Why kill the mother? Because she too beat Barbara as a child plus failed to protect her from the sexual abuse of her father.

I agree - I think insisting on meeting AB is her stalling tactic.

Also - even though Fernanda looks like she's making a Michael Jackson tribute, she really makes the hat work. She looks hot right now, maybe the different eyebrows help that too.

Fer's hat looks way better than Loafly's.

I was reading "Spanish in your Face" last night & ran across this:
bravo/a = angry in L.Am.
so got me to thinking
The writers have a purpose in naming the characters.
As someone pointed out many episodes ago, there has never been a good person named Hannibal. I remember an old, old movie in which the evil kid was the son of Satan & named Damien.

I totally understood Babs setting fire to that whole darned place with those two monsters in it. It seems like her first eleven years of life were filled with physical, sexual and mental abuse from those two. Then she meets Artemio, who turns her into his personal killing machine and sex slave. I think when he found her, he saw a tool that he could mold to help in his long-term revenge plot. Artemio seems to like to manipulate people and move them like chess peices to fulfill his own needs. Barbara was just another peice- a key one. I'm guessing that he initiated her sexually so that she would never associate sex with love and would be able to use sex without remorse whenver she needed it to use it for his plans (Damian and Gonzo). Having a child that she could/would love just complicated that. He needed to create a monster incapable of love and who was not distracted. So when a baby was born, he took that away. He also uses guilt to control her- always mentioning that she murdered her parents and failing to mention what brought her to those circumstances.

Babs may be a crazy, cold-hearted monster, but her parents and Artemio contributed in a big way to that.

-Vivi in DC

Babs' story also put me in mind of the recent case of the girl who was kidnapped at age 11 and had two children by her kidnaper in almost 20 years. She is controlled by this man, tied to him emotionally, does his biding, does not run away when given the opportunity. But, she also found a reason to live through her daughters. Truth can be stranger than fiction many times. I don't think the way they have written Babs is very far off what would happen in real life with a person raised in that situation.

-Vivi in DC

Ferro, thanks for the super recap.

Can not use Soledad's DNA, she was cremated.

rsk

Thanks for an excellent recap, Chris. Been away from the show for a few days and kept up through the recaps daily so I can't thank everyone enough for those. A lot sure has happened in four days.

I was actually cheering DDenia on when she went to Erica's house, but her plan did not work. Dang! Erica just seems to be turning into a nutcase over this boda obsession; she even gets that crazy kind of look each time she states her determination to marry. Hell or high water or infidelity, she will not back down (yet).

This TN certainly has its flaws and the lapses in logic can be exasperating, but I'm continuing to be uber-engaged and lately even on the edge of my seat. Still a huge fan.

I am openly rooting for someone (Gardenia) to 'out' Eduardo so we can finally get to the good stuff!

Thanks, Ferro. I especially liked your new name for Studmuffin Miguel...Rico Suave..perfecto. I was surfing in and out of this episode so that I could watch Dancing with the Stars'' [???What stars??? I didn't recognize half the new contestants...well, whatever.] I am just not into hats, so I hope Fer loses her Panama hat. I feel like she's crossdressing. With all the crap happening, it seems like an odd time for her to be getting so fashion conscious. I do think that the makeup people have lightened her eyebrows. Check out her earlier brows in the montage at the beginning. [ One of my students was giving a speech about her friend and said ''She's fat, and she has a lot of eyebrows.'' The speeches my intermediate students give are always entertaining....and often brutally honest.] I think Santi was adopted because I don't think that arrogant ice cube Monserrat would have an affair. It was probably enough of an effort for her to sleep with Gonz.] I have to admit that I felt sorry for Barbie last night. How many people in similar circumstances would not have turned evil. Very upstting premise. Doris~~ Hub and I wanted to see Boz Skaggs and Michael Mcdonald in Atlantic City [2 of my favs] but missed them. We also missed out on the Hall and Oates concert tickets that were $3-$6...can you imagine. The only tickets left are $150. By the way, did anyone see Pit Bull perform on the Alma awards ??? GREAT SONG ...GREAT PERFORMANCE.

Do you really think Erika would back out of it if she found out it was Eduardo? It's almost like she's marrying Franco to spite Fernanda?

After her derogatory remarks about servants, yes I think she would back out.

I think she would back out too. Not just because he's the son of a cook, but because once she knows he's Eduardo, she'll understand that it's truly a lost cause. There's no hope that the seeds of their love will grow, yadda yadda yadda.

And also because I think that when she realizes that Fernanda wasn't betraying her and sleeping with her fiance, their friendship will count for something again.

Jarocha, thanks for the youtube link. I don't know if I ever would have found that on my own!

Vivi, excellent hypothesis about Artemio Bravo's plan to mold Babs into a sociopath, including taking her child so she would have nothing at all to love.

Great recap Ferro, everything went by so fast I missed a lot, so I truly appreciate the time you all spend recapping for us! Thank you!

I am hoping deep down that poor Aurora is NOT Barbara's daughter. She has been looking for her Mom for so long, and now to finally find her and to have her taken away (by death or jail or whatever the writers bring)
It would be too sad. Also Aurora didn't look all that excited when she told her.

With all the money Fr/Ed has he should put guards around the Church to protect Padre Bosco from Artemio. OR maybe when Artemio is at the church doing his DNA test, Fr/Ed could get a swat team to Bravo's house and rescue Lily. Then leave a big E on the wall like Zorro !

Julie, Ferro, you're probably right. It's been so long ago that I can't remember but was Erika good friends with Eduardo too? (Maybe not though because of the whole separation of the classes thing) Or was she only friends with Fer? Doesn't that all seem like such a long time ago?

Thanks for the recap Chris. I can't comment now but enjoyed your recap as usual.

Telenovela Beanie Hat production has commenced. Orders are currently being filled from those who watch Lost and Fringe. (wink/grin) Those viewers, incl. my DH, can't say anything about us who watch telenovelas.

Those who need AFDB (aluminum foil deflector beanies) can DIY with instructions at: http://zapatopi.net/afdb/
These can be used as a handy multi-purpose liner for your Telenovela Beanie Hat.

Wow, looks like MEPS and BLF (on Telefutila) will both end at the same time. Whew! Carrying two telenovelas is a heavy load and I don't like to do it often.

Looking forward to Sortilegio next.

doris. (signed in with my alter-ego, same dog in photo...maybe she needs a beanie hat . . . )

hello everyone i have an idea....we know Ed/Fr (Padre Boasco) needs to present his bones to AB.... my hubby said he could possible give his mothers bones to AB.....bones are bones and would have the DNA....the same as Eduardo???? this may be possibly.....BN in CA

As someone pointed out earlier, AB seemed to have some sadness when he thought that Aurora had been killed in the hotel fire. If he cared about her, why did he put her in that miserable place with Dominga? Sylvia en GA

Ferro, thanks for a super recap. You really brought a lot of things to light that I would have missed. The comments are also very interesting and informative. I just have a couple of different opinions. 1)I don't feel sympathy for Lilianna's character who cried a lot, & seldom uttered more than 3words (all the way to the bank). The other characters probably envied her because they had to work so hard for their money. I just had to say that even though I know that actors love action and they love to act.
The other thing I disagree with is everyone assigning Erika the total responsibility of calling off the wedding. I want Franco to be a man instead of a puppet and step up to the plate and call it off. That would certainly be a damper for me if I could only have the man I loved if the other woman jilted him. That's exactly what we're asking Erika to do, jilt him so that Fernanda can have him. Sure I want Fer to have him but because of action that he takes, not because Erika decided she didn't want him for whatever reason. At that point, he becomes Erika's left overs.

Doris, yes and those who are watching U of TN or Titans football can't make comments either!!

Lisa,

I think you're on to something. I (we)am/are always talking about Gardenia and Erica and their misguided affections. Why doesn't the galan of this novela take control of the situation instead of hatching or abetting the world's silliest plans that are hurting everyone including, among many others, the parish priest,Father Bosco. Now we are talking about exhuming a corpse that doesn't exist to save Lili's life.

HGH...With all the annoyance, I'm still a faithful follower too!

Sandy in TN

Very good point Lisa. If Fr/Ed doesn't break it off with Erika, it will always be that Fr/Ed would have gone thru with it. Not especially good thoughts to live with for Fer who we know will end up with Fr/Ed.

Also what was up with Venus' knock-em-dead coctail dress in the hospital? Fancy cafeteria there I guess since that's where she and Martina were heades.

Fr/Ed's excuse for everything he does (and doesn't) do, including dumping Erika, is "it will put Liliana in danger."

It's his version of "if I do this, then the terrorists win"

His other excuse is that he "gave his word and he can't break it." That's been excuse for why he is marrying Erica of late.

-Vivi in DC

Thanks for the great recap Ferro. Err said that marrying Fr/Ed would be the last thing she would do. To me, the look on DDenia's face said, "I have no problem with that. If that's the way you want it. " :)

Aurora and Santi cannot have a child because they are apparently related, but they are having one. Thus... not related. So then, either Santi is not Gonzo's son (adopted or Mons had a fling) or Artemio is not Aurora's father. So... how have the oddsmakers set the odds? Which is it? :)

JeffMN

Fringe! Ha! Ha! I tried to watch that show because of all the hype. But they lost me on the first episode when they took the guy who had somehow lost all his skin and had been in a plastic bubble in the hospital, and put him - uncovered - in a dusty old basement at the university with a COW!! Yeah. No bacteria there. So see, TNs really arent' so farfetched!

Re Santi - I agree with whoever said Montserrat was too much of an ice cube to have had an affair. I don't think Santi is adopted either. I keep coming back to the original TN that this one is based on, Pura Sangre (Pure Blood). Who is the pure blood? It's not Artemio, therefore would not be Aurora either (if she's indeed his daughter) or her child. I can't help thinking it has to do with Eduardo. Whatever it is, it is "the secret" that as Evil Barbie said, will give Ed "absolute power" over Artemio. That's why Artie wants DNA to make sure Ed is dead.

I'm betting Santi is adopted. They've given us the clue about no pictures before the age of whatever it was. I was adopted right out of the hospital but my brother wasn't so we don't have any "newborn" pictures of him. If you follow that line of thinking then it makes sense.

I thought the original plan was for Erika and Fr/Ed to announce the engagement and then Er was to call it off for whatever reason.

Isn't Fr/Ed in the dark about that as much as we are? He hasn't made the connection somehow that he was supposed to find in the diary.

On Venus's "knock-em-dead" dress, I was wondering what Esteve's New York parents would think when they meet Venus, especially if she wears one of the hat AND dress combos that she has worn in the show!

I'm so glad that my son is married with two children..... no more worries for me!!!!

I have a funny feeling that a lot of these loose ends that we have been wondering about are never going to be resolved...like the cofre in Duelo de Pasiones...big build up for ...nada.

The Cofre was the Cofre of Irony! It had the letter from Don Loco's mother saying that he was the son of a servant, after he spent the entire show being obsessed with HIS OWN DAUGHTER possibly being a bastard of a servant! Oh the irony!

It did tie that up, but was a huge letdown.

Letter for Padre Bosco? Just disappeared. Telephone number written on piece of paper? Hmmmm.... Old dude? Found him but so what?

Chris, thanks for the fine recap, great title. "Camilo suffers in jail. Good." That's the whole truth, and nuttin' but the truth.
So many stubborn, misguided people in this TN. Sorry that our galan hasn't had a more rewarding role.
Loved the idea of Santi and Vlad hanging out waiting for their babies.
I don't think Aurora is going to live happily ever after with her Mommie Dearest. Her reaction was pretty lukewarm, IMO.

It seems most likely to me that Santi is adopted, just because he doesn't look like anyone else in the family. However, with four kids already, why did the Elizaldes take him in? Whose son was he?? That could be interesting!

I am not getting my hopes up about things suddenly making sense at the end. I think the writers have been leading us down the garden path which has turned into a maze with no exit. I feel like we've been going around and around. There's an awful lot to be resolved in a couple weeks. We are holding out hope that it will all suddenly make sense.....but I don't think it will. A lot of novelas seem to end with marriages and births , so I think Jacinto and Marg will be expecting. Estif and Venus, Santi and Aurora, Martina and Dr.Cuteguy , and Ed and Fer will get married and maybe they'll all end up waiting for the stork, too. Er and Gardenia will have to move onward and give up on Ed AT LAST. None for you girls. Flor will get a great new position at Grupo Lactos and make the company muy successful as she smashes the old glass ceiling and several bottles of milk. Barb is going to die saving her bebe somehow. Perhaps she and Art will kill each other. [Art should be ashamed of himself. His mother was a sweet young girl ruined Jerry and Altagracia, and instead of honoring his mother's memory, he became worse than they were and turned Barbie into a monster.Something really, really bad should happen to him. I even feel sorry for Barbie now that I know her whole story.]] Lili will change back into her old carefree self again singing ''Girls Just Want to Have Fun'' and devoting the remainder of her life to the the Cindy Lauper fan club. Cad and Dam will still be using the communal showers. Maybe Vlad and Pris will get together because the novelas seem to like the parents of a child to end up together. I have no idea what will happen to Anyballs...I guess he'll just continue being the big zero he's always been...maybe he'll appreciate Flor's work ethic and become hopelessly devoted to her...without any success. Gonzo...maybe he'll cry and ask his kids forgiveness when he finds out that Barbie fooled him for 15 years...and reinstate his kids in his will.

Maybe he's Eduardo's brother - WHOOOAAA!!

Does anyone remember for how many years they did not have photos of Santi??

With Santi being the youngest, isn't it odd none of the older ones (who I am sure would know)ever mentioned it?? I'm especially referring to Camilho. He is so mean and spiteful, I would think he would definitely tell Santi he wasn't an Elizade and would torment him.

Ann-NYC

Ferro !!!!~~~Maybe you are on to something---maybe Grandpa Jerry went after poor Soledad after Altagracia and Jer got rid of Ana. Bleccchhhhh No..then Ed and Fer would be related...UNLESS...Fer was adopted.

Maybe Monserrat was disappointed with children 1-3 and really wanted a nice boy to go along with her nice girl, Fernanda.

Really, Anibal was a jerk, Liliana was rebellious and mouthy and Camilo was abusive.

Santiago looks like he could be related to Fernanda but not the other 3.

On Gonzo, I don't wish this on him, but I think he'll have the "big one" just as he realizes that he has been the old fool memorialized in the expression "There's no fool like an old fool". I don't want to see him playing with his nietos in the typical "dos anos despues" scenes that we see just before "el fin" of a typical novela.

Mis dos centavos....

Xlntperuvian, I am afraid to look up what I'm about to say in case I encounter a spoiler, but I think the Pura Sangre in the title of the previous novela referred to horses. I think instead of processing milk, the characters in that one raised thoroughbred racing horses.

I have a funny feeling Jimmy Hoffa is buried somewhere in this tangled web of lies.

Maggarita
:-0

Somebody give me a Tylenol!!! I've got a headache!!!

This novela is driving me crazy...I'm more confused than ever!!! Ha! Ha!

Ann-NYC

Maggarita, he's at the bottom of the hill with the Old Dude.

Santi and Fernanda seem close in age, so I don't think Fernanda would have known, but Anibal, Liliana and Camilo definitely should have known.

Novelera, I don't want to look either, afraid of a spoiler too! I am wondering if there is a connection between Artemio's mother and Ed's father...

Ann, If Santi was adopted I am SURE that his older brothers and sisters would tease him about it.

My younger sister has blue eyes and her nose is a different shape than the rest of us. My brothers and I used to tease her about "being adopted" (we were such sh!ts)! She'd run to mom crying. Until...one day my mom got fed up and smacked us all, then turned to my sister and told her "who in the hell in their right mind would adopt YOU?" That pretty much put an end to the teasing.

Cadmilho is such a mean little bastard that he would have for sure rubbed it in that Santi wasn't one of the "kids."

Xint, that's funny! We were all adopted so I guess it wouldn't have worked at my house. Back in the day if you were adopted it was like being a Martian or something.

Xintperuvian, that was a hysterically funny story and something a mother would say!!!
Ha Ha!

Ann-NYC

!

Maggarita,

Jummy Hoffa, funny, that would be handy, they need a cuerpo or cadaver tomorrow for the big meeting with AB anyway. Salting it with Eduardo's ADN would be a piece of cake.

Fr/Ed told Esteve that he is going through with the wedding & afterwards he & Erika are going away. He doesn't think Fernanda would ever forgive him & therefore he is not going to reveal his true identity to her. So he is going to get on with his life. But we all know that's not going to happen.
Now the question, why wouldn't Fernanda forgive him, he has sacrificed a lot for her sister Lili.

Amazing, Aurora is going to do what Aurora wants to do instead of what whichever person happens to be manipulating her at the time wants her to do.

xintperuvian, imagine how many beanies the viewers went through watching the soap that lasted 72 years.

Just looking at FC is enough for me, flawed or not, who isn't?

I think that FC did the best he could with this very odd less-ths-heroic galan part. Now , it's time for FC to get back to a really good epoca with horses, waistcoats, swords, and damsels in distress. Does anyone know if FC has accepted his next role ? The fun of novelas as compared to soap operas is that in the soaps , you see the same actor playing the same part for 72 years, whereas in the novelas, the actors are always moving on to different parts in different combinations. [How long has Susan Lucci been Erica Kane ???? She started when she was a teen , so I'm guessing about 40 years....basta.

Monserrat was a terrible person, she thought it so funny when creepy Camilo pushed Soledad in the pool. Eduardo remembers Camilo insulting his horse, calling it a mangy dog, but I would like him more if he remembered what Camilo did to his mother.

BTW, if I have the Spanish name thing right, it would be Ramon Juarez, Cruz would have been Soledad's maiden name.
Eduardo is Eduardo Juarez Cruz, papá 1st, mamá 2nd.

Variopinta...thanks for recommending that book Mexico: Distant Neighbor. Just started reading it. Fascinating. And adds interesting layers of meaning to what we see portrayed in these telenovelas. Very well-written too. Gracias, amiga!

Glad you like the book JudyB. I found it very interesting & the author seems to have a great understanding from the Mex standpoint. I would like to hear a Mexican thoughts, however.

I was just on youtube and saw a promo for the new Corazon Salvaje with Eduardo sitting on the front of a ship ..hot. Also, he seems to have grown his hair to shoulder length. It looks like the actress who plays Venus has been cast in this novela and also Cesar Evora and Angelique Boyer.

Susanlynn you made my whole day! What is the link? I can't wait for that one!

Variopinta....maybe Jarocha will weigh in on this...if she has time to read the book. Or Carlos could ask his Spanish tutor if she has read it.

Connie~~~I just typed in ''Eduardo Yanez Corazon Salvaje Youtube'' and found a promo for the new version plus other interviews on ''Hoy'' and other shows. There are also loads of videos of the last version with Edith Gonzales that so many people seem to looove so much. I am anxious to see Big Ed as a pirata.

Thanks for the hookup. :}

Padre Tadeo from FELS is also in Corazon Salvaje. He looks good with long hair and a waistcoat.

This episode was probably one of the best. First and foremost I think that Erika seeems pretty desperate with the wedding. She thinks that she can get Franco to stop thinking about Fer. Then Gardenia puts herself into the equation but neither she nor Erika's father can do anything.

Second, I do think Santi is adopted.

And third, in a very small way I feel sorry for Barbie, not just for the way Art is treating her but also about her childhood. I wonder if Aurora will see Art.

Excellent title, ferro :)

And a belated thanks to jardinera for Friday's recap.

The only thing I can add to the speculation is...is it possible that Santi is a cousin of the other kids? Like maybe something happened to his parents and he was given to the Elizaldes to raise? And that maybe it happened early enough that Camilo really doesn't remember?

I agree with the poster on the TN logic that dictates that if Santi and Aurora are too closely related then she wouldn't be having a baby, therefore there must be some way that they aren't.

Xinperuvian, that is funny.

Judy and Variopinta, who is the author who wrote that book? Some tme ago, I read,Vecinos Distantes(part of my Spanish study provided by my tutor). It's a Spanish translation of a book written by Alan Riding originally in English. It's rather old but still relevant to this day. I learned a great deal from it. I'm pretty sure it's not the one you are talking about, but I'd like to read the one you are discussing.

Carlos

Carlos, that's the book, Alan Riding is the author.

Carlos, he has what he calls afterword, 15 years later, which catches us up pretty much to present, at least to Vicente Fox.

Variopinta, I learned so much about Mexico from that book. I think that it should be required reading for high school students in the US, or at least in the southern border states. The book she loaned me,(which I still have) is falling apart. I tried to find one in better condition, but without luck.

Carlos

Carlos, I got mine through Amazon, but in English. You can ck to see if they have it in Spanish.
ISBN o-679-72441-9

Variopinta, found it, ordered it. Thanks a heap.

Carlos

Carlos, did you get it in Spanish?

Variopinta, yes. It's been a couple of years since I tried to find it, and I'd given up. Thanks to you and Judy, I was able to get an updated edition in Spanish. I ordered it with one click, a dangerous(to the pocketbook)option that Amazon offers.

Judy, this book is really informative and eye-opening as well. I'm looking forward to reading the new parts as well as re-reading at least a portion of the old. When I read it before I was not nearly as accomplished in reading Spanish as I am now, and found parts rather difficult and tedious going, but well worth the effort.

Carlos

Wow it looks like YouTube did a sweep of all the MEPS clips.
