MEPS Monday Labor Day
Oooops - first off, I forgot yesterday was even a Monday. I asked my wife if she wanted to watch an episode of Monk we recorded and hadn't watched yet, she said "what, the novela wasn't on today?" So I thought oh duh, it's Monday. So we watched the show. Then, this morning in the shower, I thought "oh crap I think it was my turn to recap this week!" So basically I have failed. Here's a rundown of what happened last night, the best I can remember -
Damian convinces Bladimir that he is his friend and really wants to help him. Bladimir records a video spilling his guts about everything that has happened for them to use as blackmail.
We don't see Anibal, Priscilla, Camilo, Venus, Esteve, or Martina at all this episode.
Fernanda and Madre Superiora both travel to see each other, so of course neither one is where they are supposed to be for the other to find them. Finally, for the first time in novela history, someone uses a cell phone in a situation that so clearly calls for a cell phone. Flor calls Fernanda to tell her that MS is there for her, Fer tells her to wait and she'll be right back. Oh and hide her so Barbara doesn't see her. Flor the dutiful soldier does all as ordered.
Aurora wants to go catch Fernanda before she leaves but one of the nuns won't let her out, it's against the rules. Eventually Aurora talks her way out and catches Fernanda. She invites her in, also against the rules, Fernanda calls Flor back and says she'll wait at the nunnery for MS to come back. A second good use of cell phone. During the conversation, Fernanda is able to straighten out a bunch of misconceptions Aurora has - 1) Barbara is the devil, don't trust her. 2) Santiago knows nothing about anything, he has no idea that Barbara is visiting Aurora, etc. He's in Italy and in the dark.
Aurora then tells Fernanda that she is pregnant and that it's Santiago's, with no more proof than "I just know it's his, I was with him first." They didn't teach sex ed at her school I guess. Then, finally, she tells how Camilo drugged her and took advantage of her. My wife still believes that Camilo didn't actually rape her, but just got in the bed. I guess we'll see if that's what Camilo claims in the end, but why should we believe him?
Meanwhile Flor has to wrap up MS like a statue, covered in paper, to sneak her out of the office. Gardenia tries her best to screw it all up like usual but Flor wins this battle.
Erika has frappucinos with her friend who isn't really a friend. She really enjoys asking her are you SURE Franco is so perfect 50 times before showing her the picture and breaking her heart. She revels in it and then says she is just being a good friend by telling her because she loves her like a sister. Yeah right bitch.
Fr/Ed goes to visit Lily with Barbara, Lily isn't supposed to tell that she and Artemio are leaving but Fr/Ed gets it out of her. He talks and they cry about how he and her family don't want her to leave, he basically uses her emotional state to get her to give him the diary as something to remember her by.
I hope I covered all the major points - please chime in with anything I have forgotten. My apologies for the late recap. We are in for a good week of shows, or week and a half, whatever is left, now that things are finally happening. I can't wait until Camilo gets what is coming to him.

Aurora tells Fernanda that Babs is taking her away & is going to care for her & the baby. She is still not convinced that Babs is a bad person, even knowing about she & Damian doing the deed.

Thanks for the recap Ferro. You pretty much covered it. MS covered up like a statue! WTF... That was just goofy. So now what is Fer going to do with the knowledge about Camiiiiii. I hope she nails his hide to the wall. The "friend" is such a bitch. I'm still having trouble feeling sorry for Erika though because Fr/Ed has told her from day 1 it is just pretend. It's not his fault she's a retard.
Damian is also leading Vlad the Impregnator to get a blood test. I have a suspicion that the taped confession and the blood test are so that later, when Damian has him bumped off (and I'm pretty sure he will) he will still have "evidence" to use to blackmail Anibal with. Mr. 5ft thinks Dam has a scheme to use Vlad's blood test to make it look like the baby is his (Dam's) but I can't work out the angle on that one. Then again...that's par for the course with a lot of the subplots!
Excellent recap, even from memory only! You got all the major points. My only big question from Friday was "Where is Lili if she's not at Evil HQ?" but in a way, they didn't answer it. He just said she wasn't there and then she walked in 5 minutes later. Out shopping maybe? Having a spa day? Who knows!

I don't know if we can totally trust Camilo, but the other day I think he told Barbara he was very careful not to get Aurora pregnant, implying either that he used a condom, or they didn't actually do the deed. So hopefully, Aurora's belief that her baby is Santiago's is correct.
Fr/Ed was being a little manipulative himself, in that he first told Lili, if you're leaving, give me something to remember you by (the diary). Then after she gave it to him, he said, okay, please don't leave.
One more thing happened in the show. Artemio Bravo told Barbara that as soon as Gonzo transfers all his assets to her, she must immediately transfer them all to Artemio. She gets no money, but she gets her freedom, and he gets all of the Elizalde assets.

Thank you others for filling in some gaps, each thing I read I thought "oh yeah that too!" I may have shortened the Aurora part subconsciously, even if she is finally telling people things I still can't stand her character and her scenes are torture. I want to see that actress in something else and find out if it's the character I hate so much or if it's her.

Thanks for the recap, quick and dirty but all the good stuff! I can't believe this show is almost over, and with so few repetative or boring episodes! So different from FELS. I'm so glad I gave another show a try after FELS.

I was surprised and thrilled to see Aurora finally show some spine. Her refusal to let the nun prevent her from seeing Fernanda and her taking Fer back to her room in spite of the rules seem completely at odds with her earlier behavior. What surgeon performed this marvellous personality transplant?
I know we've all been down on Errorika's "friend" for taking the photos and showing them to Err, but hey, if my soon-to-be-esposo lied to me about his whereabouts and was in a restaurant holding hands with another woman, I'd want to know. And the photos make it clear that there's no mistake. So perhaps we shouldn't be so hard on the friend, even if there's more than a touch of schadenfreude (alegría por la desgracia ajena) in her actions.
Finally, did Artemio tell Barbara that after she had transferred all of Gonzo's money etc. to Artemio, she could do what she wished with Lili? I don't trust my Spanish, especially since I was very surprised to hear him say that (or what I thought was that :-) )

Thanks Ferro, I haven't watched the episode yet so from what I read here it seems you covered everything quite well. Since I didn't see it yet, I like the fact that you mentioned who didn't make an appearance. Even though I can read comments through out the day, I won't get to see the episode until later this evening. So I hope others will take your invitation and chime in if they see blanks.
Unlike others who are placing the blame on Erika's dileema entirely on her for missing cues from the master deciever, I say don't forget that Franco really wants to get married to Erika even though he's still in love with Fer. Love or infatuation both have a way of letting the emotions rule over logic. It's like we're pointing the finger at her and saying "come on, can't you see he doesn't love you"? IMHO he's being very selfish and unfair to her. My daughter is engaged. Maybe I should become a spy or fly on the wall and see if he's making faces behind her back, indicating that he's marrying her for his own selfish reasons knowing that he doesn't love her and at the same time forgetting that marriage is a sacrament.
Personally, I'm glad that FC isn't in the next novela. I've had enough of this best looking man on earth (ears and all) bull. It distorts and detracts from what you expect of the character. Actually I'm ready for all his lies and deceits to catch up with him.

Vlad's video is supposedly for blackmail, but I was thinking that it could also pass for a suicide note. (ICBW, I didn't hear the whole thing.)
Damian could kill Vlad, use the video to make it look like a suicide, AND humiliate Anibal in the process.
There'd be no money in that, though, and we know Dam doesn't care for schemes that aren't profitable. Also, I don't think Dam is a killer. But what I did hear of the video sounded like it could come back to bite Vlad later, either as a suicide note or motive for killing Anibal.

Thanks, Ferro. Yes, Lili must have been out shopping for her trip around the world with Uncle Artie. [I, too, have an Uncle Art...but unlike Lili's Evil Uncle Artie, mine is great...an ex-Marine who lives in Florida.] It was cute seeing Lili carrying a purse. I wonder what she had in it. Even though Er is dim and insipid, I felt sorry for her as she smilingly opened that envelope-of-domm-and-gloom as her ''friend'' grinned like The Cheshire Cat waiting to watch Er's beautiful [though unrealistic] bubble-of-fake-bliss burst. I had a friend like that in 7th grade...Ruthie. I see her at class reunions...She's still a witch. Fer is slowly putting together the puzzle pieces. By the way, I found scenes of Ed Yanez and his leading lady in Corazon Salvaje kissing on youtube. It looks like Helena Roja and Maria Roja and Manueal Landete are also in the new version of CS.

She showed up at the convent no more than two days after that incident and was experiencing pregnancy symptoms that night. That means she was already PG when Camilo did or did not (I'm increasingly leaning towards "not") nail her.
However, I can't think of any way to prove his guilt or innocence other than taking his word for it, and he has plenty of reason to lie either way. He'll have to weigh his macho self-image against the possibility of doing prison time (if anyone decides to press charges). My guess is that, no matter how he answers to those charges, he'll throw Babs to the lions in the process. ;-)

Elle, the boarding school was paid for by Gonzo. Harvard was paid for with some scholarship, and I believe Padre Bosco had something to do with that (I remember Eduardo thanking him).
Chris, you did a great job from memory. Monday holidays are confusing. My experience has been that the ones made in Mexico (Univision) usually run on US only holidays, while the made in US (Telemundo) ones sometimes do reruns or recaps or something else on US holidays.
I loved Babs' face when AB told her she was to transfer all the bucks to him!
And, joy, joy, our sensible Fernanda is on the case with la necia (Aurora). Now that she knows there's a little ankle-biter on the way, Santi will soon know. And I loved Silvia Navarro's face lighting up at the news. She really knows how to express Fer's joy at having nephews and/or nieces.

I guess my feeling on Erika's friend is all negative because of how much she enjoyed killing her with that photo. Yes a friend needs to tell these things, a real friend would have done the phone call where Fr/Ed claims to be somewhere else, then immediately call the friend back and say "he said he was there, but he's right here and I'm looking at him." Not set up some long plan to crush her spirit.
Ferro: Thanks for the great recap. I thought that when Aurora finally broke free of the nun and opened the door that Fer would have been gone already. But, there she was, breaking another novela rule.
BTW: I can't do the recap Thursday since I will be travelling. Nobody has volunteered to sub, so, I think it will be a write it yourself episode.

pasofino - that's so funny, when Aurora got the door open, my wife threw up her hands "and OF COURSE Fernanda will be gone!" and made a loud sheesh noise, but there was Fernanda. I looked at her and said "Honey - Ultimos Capitulos!"

The mummy business on the Mother Superior was amusing but I didn't understand why it was necessary since Barbara was at Artemio Bravo's. And if she had been around she certainly would have wanted to know what the heck was going on with the weird package being hauled out.

The baby is fantastic, thanks for asking! 8 months old now, two bottom teeth coming in. She is the happiest baby I've ever seen, just smiles all day every day.

Yes, I agree with JudyB and Ferro...the "friend" had a smirky smile and the way she keeps calling Erica "princess" lets us know that she isn't really a friend. I'm glad she told her though.

They gave us a pretty good idea what Chelsea's problem is. She'd been married a little over a year and had it counted to the minutes. She was warning Erika that it wasn't going to be the bed of roses brides envision. It could be that he doesn't pick up his socks, but somehow I don't think that's it. Perhaps the sight of TBLMOE has made her green enough with envy to enjoy giving Erika those photos.

I agree totally with JudyB! That slapstick-cardboard scene with Mother S was off the wall, illogical. As Judy said, there was no need to hide Mother S from Evil Barbs, because she was not there. Who better to know than Flor.
Anyway, the Mother S character and her particular role, always reflecting, intelligence, integrity, respect, and dignity would never have acquiesced to such malarkey....especially considering the purpose of her visit, and her unawareness of why Evil Barbs should not spot her.
That kind of clown junk does not befit or comport with a quality TN like MEPS. But we do expect it in a mediocre or lesser TN like FELS with a character like Quintana. I used to fast-forward all those takes.

The Aurora actress played a very different character in Guapos...a villain there, so she wasn't particularly likeable, but I think Aurora's insufferability is the character, not the actress. I think she could be charming if she wanted to.

Barbara wasn't there at the time, but who knows when she could have strolled into Lactos and seen Mother Superior, or busted up in Fernanda's office as she often does, or have Gardenia blab to Sra. Barbara about the Mother Superior being there.
And we don't know if Flor told Mother Superior why she had to be kept "under wraps," but Mother Superior is already suspicious of Barbara and I don't think would have objected to being kept under wraps to avoid being seen by her.

That's funny that Navarro is taking an acting course and she's already a better actress than almost every woman of her age that I've seen on a novela. Maybe the rest should take the hint?

I hadn't realized that there hasn't been a hospital story, amazing! No wonder I have liked this show. It could easily have been my least favorite show ever, simply by having Aurora end up in the hospital with amnesia.
I think Lili left to get a passport or passport pics taken. Hence, the need for the birth certificate copy and why Artemio wouldn't say where she was.

Chris, I think that you did a great job with a lively, eventful episode. Certainly not lacking in humor. I enjoyed the gift wrapping of Mother Superior. I especially enjoyed when Flor took out the tape, rolled off a bit and apologized for what she was about to do.

Anon 4:30...I agree with you. Erica learning that Fernanda and Franco are having an affair of the heart at the hands of a sneering "friend" was very poignant. The basic plot of the TN has been convoluted, but many of the subplot scenes have been the best. Pris in tears in the car with Vlad, the crazy guy that loves her and her baby, as opposed to her husband, who calls her a baby a bastard and could care less; Fernanda learning about Aurora's pregnancy at the same time hearing that Camillo had assaulted Aurora and then on top of that ....BARBARA is somehow involved. I must say pretty good stuff.

Hmmm...now what would be a fitting retribution for Barbwire...I'm thinking of the bottom of that ravine with The Old Dude she kicked down there with her spiked heels. She's killed a couple people , so I think she will die as opposed to ending up in jail. What will Dam 's fate be ? He didn't kill anyone . I think that Barb will have the worst punishment of all, the incarceration of her own mind, the knowledge that she set up Aurora, her own DAUGHTER (we think, but maybe not!), for a sexual assault, the loss of a nieto that she seemingly loves, and then the realization that she went to the dark side at the bidding of AB who will no doubt double cross her. Then she will be left with nothing, not even the love of Goofy Gonzo. She'll loose the money and die too, but that is besides the point.

Just had time to breeze through the comments. Has anyone mentioned what a bonehead move it is for Fr/Ed to remove the diary from Lili's room? I'm sure Artemio Bravo's head will explode when he discovers it's gone. At the very least he won't let Fr/ed have anymore access to Lily . I was hoping he would whip out a little spy camera and photograph it. On the other hand, maybe he can use it for leverage to ensure Lili's freedom, knowing how valuable it is to AB. Just my .02
