MEPS - Thursday, October 1, 2009 - Gonzo Meet Your Brother. So Who's Your Daddy Now?

Fr. Bosco reminds Ed that he’s in great danger, but Ed says he’s safe for now, but that he knows AB will give the order to kill him, but he’s worth more alive now than dead.

Just then, Artemio Bravo tells his henchman, Borja, Franco is Ed and  that Ed has 24 hours and not a minute more, and as soon as I tell you kill him and keep me informed about everything you do.

Santi, meanwhile wants to kill Camilo.  Fer talks some sense into him and tells him that they have to direct their energy at resolving their problems.Tomasa tells Fer and Santi that Barb isn’t there and she’s taking to opportunity to tell them that Marcario died.  She finally got that off her chest.

Fr. Bosco wants to know for how much longer Ed can hide his identity.  Ed says he doesn’t fear death nor does he fear confronting Fer.  Imagine how Fer will react when she finds out.  The mask of Franco Santoro has succeeded.  He might as well have said the Mask of Zorro.  It’s that melodramatic.  She will hate me for the rest of my life.  It’s the lie.  He will find Aurora and then disappear.

Tomasa tells Fer and Santi about how Marcario was found in the ditch at the country house.  Lights begin to go on in Fer’s head.  Tomasa tells her that Barb ordered her not to say anything.  Santi and Fer think alike.  Fer says that Barb probably had something to do with that death.

Ed will get into the prison.  Fr. Bosco says he can get in and talk to Damian Gallardo.  Ed says no.  Ed tells him that Artemio Bravo can order the death of anybody he wants, including you.  Bosco orders him to sit down and listen to what he has to say.  He feels responsible and guilty for what Barbara Greco and Artemio Bravo have done.If there is someone here who has a weight on their conscience it is I.  By getting to Damian he will alleviate his pain.  Flashback to when Don Jeronimo ordered Ana to leave.  Soledad found the birth certificate and knew the truth from when she was a child.  He knew from the moment that Barb arrived that she knew that Soledad knew the story of Ana Gregoria.  He was under the confessional seal.  He kept silence for your good – he became an accomplice to all the tragedies that followed.  He didn’t have the guts to talk to Gonzalo and tell him what was happening.  He was stopped by a confession.  Ed is grateful Fr. Bosco spilled his guts.  That is why he is begging him to visit Damian and to find out where Aurora is being hidden.

Fer has just found out that Marcario’s death occurred a few days after she was there with Franco.  They can’t understand how evil she is.  Santi says Macario saw something and that Barb had to kill hm.  Santi wants to find out if any of the campesinos in the area saw Barb with Marcario.  Fer says Barb must spend the rest of her life in jail.

At the jail, Damian is roughing up Barb a little.  He then turns on the charm and demands a conjugal visit.  Barb cringes.  He tells her prisoners often sell their honeys for money.  He begins to undress her.  She pulls away and wants to know what he wants.  He says he doesn’t want any money.  He wants her to be sorry and wants to know who the hell is Aurora.

Fr. Bosco is at the prison to see Damian.  Inspector Lazoyo sends a guard to get Damian.  The inspector is very proud to have known Fr. Bosco so long.  Barb tells Damian she’s never been so honest and that she guarantees to get him set free. She admits she’s used him a couple of times. And, why, he wants to know.  He wants to finish her off for all her betrayals and times humiliations and evil deeds.  She says she speaks seriously.  She will get him out.  Her offer doesn’t interest him.  He tortures her by telling her that he wants to enjoy her, planning minute by minute and day by day, how he can do her more damage.  He will punish her until she begs him on her knees to bring her child to her.  Now, we can begin preliminary negotiations, says Damian.

Artemio Bravo talks to his henchman who is spying on Jacinto’s house.  Borja awaits the order to fire.  Outside of Jacinto’s house, Fer talks to Franco who tells her that Fr. Bosco went to talk to Damian.  Fer wants to know if he’ll succeed.  Ed once again says we have to find Aurora and get rid of Barb.  Fer tells him that Marcario was found dead in a ditch and that she is sure that Barb is involved.  Pretty soon her father will find out everything.

At Casa Elizalde, Gonzo’s attorney tells him that Camilo will never get out of prison because Rebeca Sanchez filed a complaint against Camilo accusing him of raping Aurora.  He can’t get Cami out on bond.  Gonzalo appears to have a heart attack.

Damian's first demand is that Fer come to visit him.  He tells Barb to convince her and that he will tell her where Aurora is located.  The guard knocks on the conjugal cell and tells Damian that Fr. Bosco is there to see him.

Fer and Franco continue discussions about getting Camilo free, but Fer tells him her brother is a disgrace and that Santi might try to kill him.  Flor calls Fer and tells her that a tragedy has happened.  Fer rushes out and Franco volunteers to go to the hospital with her.

Lili, Margarita and Martina are playing outside and Lili flashes back to her childhood when she played with Ed, and she remembers Soledad.  Margarita is going to make a lot of tomales with the corn.  So, what was the point of this little bucolic scene?

Bosco tells Damian that he must wonder why he is there.  Fr. gets right to the point.  Where is Aurora.  Damian wants to know why so many people are interested in her.  He says the father is a holy person who doesn’t lie and who hasn’t killed anyone or fooled anyone, and he wants to know why her.  Damian now stoops to political moves to bargain for her.  Fr. saysit is your duty for your soul.  Damian says I will tell only Fernanda Elizalde Aurora’s location.

Damian returns to Barb and says, he’ll make a deal – him for Aurora.  Barb says the others want  to take Aurora from her – Santi and Fer.  Barb begs him.  She says she is in his hands, and she begs him for help.

The lawyer tells Fer and Franco that Gonzo had a heart attack.  Fer wants to know if Gonzo will survive.  The attorney tells him that the news about Camilo affected her father.  He tells her about the complaint of Rebeca Sanchez.  Beams of light appear around FrEd.  With all the melodrama worthy of a silent movie, Ed says, “Barbara Greco, la hiena.”

At the jail, the guard enters and says time's up.  Damian’s parting words are:  “Send Fernanda.”  He wonders what secret Barb is hiding.

Fer says that Barb knew that what she did would affect her father.  Ed wonders what was the point in revealing her true identity.  Fer says Barb wants to recover Aurora at any price and to ruin her family at any price.

Lucio tries to feed Aurora something and makes a move on her.  Cousin Jacobo pulls him off her and tells Lucio that he’s under orders to protect her.  Lucio leaves and Jacobo tells Aurora not to worry.  Jacobo also cleans up and says he’ll bring her more food.  Aurora flashes back to what Damian said to her about obeying orders.  She’s afraid for her baby.

El licenciado calls Barb and tells her about Gonzo’s heart attack. He tells her that Gonzo is alive.  She says she’s relieved, hah hah.  She wishes him dead.  The only thing she’s interested in is her daughter.

Fer goes in to see Gonzo.  Ed asks the nurse about Gonzo’s condition.  The nurse says he needs absolute rest in order to recover.

Fer calls out to her papa and tells him he has to rest.  He tells her about Camilo.  He says silence will kill him.  She says don’t say more.  He repeats that Rebeca Sanchez filed the complaint and he asks Fer if she knows that woman.Fer tells Gonzo that Rebeca Sanchez is Aurora’ mother.  But, says Gonzalo, he thought Aurora didn’t have any family.  Fer tells him that she found out her mother and father were alive.     Gonzo remembers that Aurora is expecting a baby, his grandchild.

Bar is back with Artemio Bravo.  Bar tells AB that if Fernanda finds Aurora first, she will take Aurora away from us.  He corrects her and says she’ll take Aurora away from you.  She tells AB that she’s the only person who can reunite him with her child.  He asks her where she’s getting this family spirit. She hates him, but he’s the only person who can help her get Aurora.  She doesn’t trust Franco because he’s with Fernanda.    Barb says that child is the only bond that has survived in their hearts and that in spite of everything , he can’t kill her.  Barb wants to know what he wants.  AB wants her to help get rid of the rest of Elizaldes.  She tells him that Gonzo had a heart attack.  He accepts her offer, but, he will now act  and deliver the final blow.

Fr. Bosco Calls Franco and tells him that he needs to talk  to Fer and that he should bring her to him asap.  Fer enters and tells Franco that Gonzo is lucid, but weak, and that he knows what Barbara Greco did.  She didn’t tell daddy Barbra’s true identity.  Franco tells her that Fr. Bosco wants to see her at the parish office.  Fer says that she can’t leave her father alone. Fer makes a call.

Meanwhile Santi, on his own Mission Impossible mission, is scoping out the woods and sees a man with a donkey.  He stops to talk.

Fer can’t reach Santi.  Fer doesn’t want to leave.  Enter Gardenia.  Fer says she must have fallen from the sky.  She tells Gardenia to stay with Gonzo and not leave under any circumstances.  She and Franco have an appointment with Fr. Bosco.  Of course, Gardenia swears she won’t leave the room.

Artemio Bravo’s spy, who looks like an oversized Sherlock Holmes,  tails Fer and Franco out of the hospital.

Jacobo takes Aurora’s photo for his cousin to send to Barbara Greco.  Lucio, the slimeball, is back.

Barb is at Gonzo’s bedside and says I hope  you die you old decrepit man. Gardenia heard her and tells her that she will not leave.  Barb grabs Gardenia by the arm and tries to shove her out of the room.  Gardenia puts up a good show, but she is out of her league here.  Barb is curious about where Fer and Franco went.  She goes out to use her phone.

At Bosco’s, the priest tells Fer that she must be very worried about her father.  Fer tells him that Gardenia is taking care of him.

Gardenia says a small prayer for God to save don Gonzo who, in her opinion, is a good man.  The hyena on the other hand is the most evil.  A nurse enters and tells Gardenia to leave because the doctor who is with her has to examine the patient.  They tell her to go the cafeteria, and Gardenia leaves.

Artemio Bravo opens the door next to Gonzo’s room and stares his evil stare into the camera.  We are not impressed.

Artemio looks at Gonzo asleep in his bed and closes the blinds. Is this Mexican ICU?  Gonzo turns his head and opens his eyes and sees Artemio and asks him if he knows him.  Artemio says, “yes.”  But Gonzo doesn’t remember him.  Artemio says he doesn’t have to remember him.  This isn’t a social visit and I’m interested in the state of your health.  Gonzo wants to know who he is.  I am Artemio Bravo, your brother.    Mystery music.

Bosco pardons the delay – he had to talk to the men who agreed to be his guards.  Franco tells Fer that AB tried to kill Fr. Bosco.

Artemio says he’s really Artemio Elizalde.  He asks Gonzo if he didn’t notice the resemblance.  Gonzo wants to know what he’s doing there.  AB says blood doesn’t make them brothers.  He didn’t come to say hello nor be cordial with him or his family.  He came to disillusion him.  When he found out Gonzo had a heart attack,he was afraid.  Because he was afraid Gonzo might be dead.  He didn’t want Gonzo to die without finding out the truth about himself.  Even though we have the same father two things separate us, we are abysmally different.  Our mother’s blood and the truth – I was raised in the mud of truth and since I was born you lived a life of lies.  How old where you when you found out that death, like truth, arrives sooner or later.     He wants Gonzo to listen to everything he has to say.

Fer says, Damian doesn’t know that Aurora is Barb’s daughter.  Franco tells her they have an advantage to negotiate with him.  The condition is that Fernanda go to the jail to speak with him.

Ana Gregoria Bravo, continues Artemio, my mother, but he hates to remembers an Elizalde memory.  Her beauty was a damnation because don Jeronimo used her.  Mother wrote a diary and told how day by day she fell in love, and he seduced her.  Artemio tells him how Jeronimo abandoned Ana Gregoria and that his mother cast her out.  He would have brought the diary, but Lili gave it to Franco.  Lili was in his house and Franco negotiated her freedom.  He felt tenderness for her, but she was just another Elizalde who betrayed him.  He tells Gonzo that he planned Lili’l kidnapping.  Gonzo asks about Obregon.  AB says he didn’t have anything do to with this.  The person who helped him was Barbara Greco, the killer of Montserrat, your children’s mother.  The heart monitor is going crazy.  Gonzo yells out, “No, no.”End of chapter

Readers:  Help me clear up something confusing re Artemio's birth certificate.  From last night's chapter, we learn that little Soledad found the birth certificate at the time Ana Gregoria was cast out of the Garden of Eden.  Was that same birth certificate in the pages of Ana's diary?  And, did we ever learn what Soledad hid under the floor boards at Lili's room at the insane asylum?  Am I asking too much?

Hi, Pasofino. Hope I don't add to the confusion. Little Soledad found the birth certificate and it is the same one that later was in the wooden box that Ciro was guarding. The box fell into the hands of Ciro's greedy moo-hair and Fr/ed paid her for the box and thus got the b.c. which was one of the first pieces of the puzzle as to who was behind Mom Soledad's mistreatment. Let me read your recap, I hope you don't mind if there are other blanks that we help fill them in? Gracias, this recapping stuff is hard work and we appreciate it.

Khalilah

Pasofino, pardon me please, I have a question but I don't want to post a spoiler or sound critical. Did AB tell Gonzo a lot more stuff that totally shocked him? I confess I sometimes look ahead and maybe I'm mixed up. Thanks.

Khalilah

Thanks, Kalilah:  I had forgotten Ciro's wife.  When was the box Soledad hid in Lili's room removed?

Pasofino - thank you for the recap, and so wonderfully deadpan. LOL

My brain is fried from MEPS at this point.... FrEd lines. Fr. Bosco lines. Damian lines. Fer lines. Artemio lines. yadda yadda
Bring on the Por Fin.

At least everyone got a wardrobe change, and started the day out with new outfits.

Ewww, didn't Lucio try to rape Gardenia at same cottage, in the same room?

Not one nurse out front notices Bonzo's heart rate fluctuating on all those monitors? Would they care?

Yesterday I watched a few minutes of Pura Sangre on YouTube. (out of sheer boredeom, but the back trouble is improving a lot!) The FrEd character there, Marco/Ed, looks much hotter and believable than he did here as Miguel. Unlike our perfectly chiseled & groomed FrEd, the PS version had a normal every-day look to him (while still retaining his hotness). I think that look would work better with such an imperfect and flawed protagonist. FrEd always looks like he is bracing for an icewater enema.

pasofino - was the box removed when they took Lili out and parked her in her very own, very nice house? Or after Ciro blew up the manicomio? Can't remember.....

Readers: I should have added that AB told Gonzo that he was interested in his health because he was afraid Gonzo would be dead before he could get to him.

Doris: So that's what's wrong with FrEd - he's too well groomed. An ice-water enema. Yikes!

No time to read the recap right now but great title Pasofino.

Again with the no-security Mexican hospitals. By all means, let strange fake doctors and nurses roll carts around and then let strange guys come in and give your heart attack victims more heart attacks.

This is the worst acting I've ever seen Colunga do. Maybe when he did all that body-building it boiled his IQ away. He chose brawn over brains and we all lose. Shake those lips, Fr/Ed!

Yes, Artemio said more. Did you miss the very end, pasofino? He revealed several secrets and the last one was that Barb killed Gonzo's first wife Montserrat!

Thanks for the recap Pasofino. I have to admit I zoned out on some parts. When AB talks I have the hardest time understanding him so I lost quite a bit of the hospital scene.

I wondered how Dam got such a fancy jail cell. I was thinking that he was in the country club jail instead of the real jail.

Just because Barb was at the country house doesn't necessarily mean she killed Old Dude. Do they have some kind of physical evidence that the crack ICS team found?

Lili found the box, gave it to Ciro for safekeeping, he gave Fred the letter from Soledad when he nearly died in the hospital(Fred also found the secret letter/riddle with clues to Ciro's inhereitance in the chess peice Ciro clutched later), after he died for real, his wife and son ransacked his room to look for his money, they found the birth certificate, Fred paid them a lot of money to get his hands on it. Then he had all the peices.

Readers: When I copied and pasted, I left out the last paragraph. It is now added, but I have lost the paragraphs. So, I'll go back and try to edit them.

Paragraph breaks and the ending have been corrected. What a way to start the morning.

pasofino - don't worry about it. We all appreciate your work in doing the recaps. Thank you.

Pasofino, thanks for all your hard work in getting this episode together. A lot went on and all important. I missed a lot. I'm still trying to absorb it all.

Ann-NYC

Pasofino, no problem. I don't know how you followed it as well as you did. Thanks for all.

I too have been saying since the beginning of this that Fr/Ed's look in this TN is just plain unnatural for him.

Pasofino, you did a stupendous job on your recap. It seemed like last night's episode was full of all the most difficult, irregular and confusing verb tenses ever created. Honestly, my head was spinning and I did not envy whoever was recapping. Way to handle it like a pro! Nice job.

I agree Cap'n Sylvia--Also too much info at once I think. I'm going to have to go back and rewatch the hospital scene. I was tuckered out by then.

Thanks for the great recap Pasofino. The nurse that kicked Gardenia out of the room was Artemio's own frau Hilda and she was with, I assume, one of his henchmen.

Hopefully Lili will get to see Gonzo before he goes, but not looking good right now. She was always worried about him.

Ayyy, Pasofino, Gracias again for your fine recap, I didn't want to come off like missy know-it-all but I was like, uh something's missing. Man, AB blew poor Gonzo's ticker out, didn't he. I tell you what, if I get sick inside a hospital like that, take my arse outta there ASAP, that's the worse telenovela hospital ever! Gonzo now knows the truth, I hope he lives to let it sink in and realize what a doofus he's been, and that's too kind a word!

Thank you Pasofino. Don't know how you guys do it. Can't wait for tonight!

Khalilah

Connie... I don't think that was Dam's cell (could be wrong), I think that was the conjugal visit room. :)
When the guard popped in at the end, they should have yelled at him and said "Hey, a little privacy here!". :)

Did anyone catch that the nurse and orderly that asked Gardenia to leave Gonzo's room were none other than Hilda, Lili's guard at AB's home and another of his henchmen. as soon as they got Gardenia to leave the room, AB, who was hiding in an adjacent room, went in to confront Gonzo...

carolina

JeffMN, I didn't realize that until later.

I wondered who the bad disguise guy was in the hallway when they left. He was just plain creepy.

He looked like a bad toucher kind of guy.

Thank you very much Pasofino for your well-detailed and entertaining recap.

Lili flashes back to her childhood when she played with Ed, and she remembers Soledad.  -- She was talking about making tamales with the corn (elote) they were harvesting; she was remembering Soledad's delicious tamales and how Eduardo would help with the harvest. Margie told Lili that they will make wonderful tamales but she didn't think they could equal Soledad's. Lili seemed more than determined to try.

to answer your question about the box -- when Fr/Ed and Steve visited Lili and Martina at the clinica, Fr/Ed gave Lili a bouquet of pink roses and Lili gave Fr/Ed the little green box (which his mother had previously hid with a bag of chocolates under the floorboards of Lili's room - Lili gave the green box to Ciro for safe keeping. Ciro's greedy wife and son took the birth certificate from the box. Lili got the box back. Fr/Ed had to use some of Lili's inheritance from Ciro to get the certificate away from Ciro's wife and son.

Jody :)

Jody, that seems like such a long time ago doesn't it? I was having a hard time remembering it too.

Thanks so much Pasofino. That was a busy episode. I agree that FC's look in this novela is very Tim Gunn. I am chalking it up to the fact that he is the son of servant trying to fit into high society and going with the idea that clothes make the man . Therefore, he is usually walking around in his Armani suits, starched dress shirts , and $300.00 ties. I have decided on this scenario instead of Doris's ice water enemas....yikes.

The corn scene really was a hoot ... picking up corn that just happended to be laying around .. no corn field in sight. And then to add to the bucolic scene, some traffic goes by not far from the happy farmettes. I guess this is Lily's theraphy.

Gee, I feel asleep and missed the first half hour. Sorry I missed the corn scene because I've picked a lot oif sweet corn in my life , andI've always had to wrestle it off the corn stalks which are thick and leafy. You feel like your in a jungle when you're in the middle of a coren field picking corn.

Connie: wasn't that AB in the bad disguise?

You would think someone would have mentioned that Damian was in the middle of a conjugal visit when Fr. Bosco asked to meet with him!

Jody: Lili gave Fr/Ed the box first? I was going to write why didn't he look inside it! D'oh!

Pasofino: thanks for the recap. Who's your Daddy, indeed!

Anon 10:42, yes, what I thought, too, about the corn. Que the heck? Just picking corn off off of the ground? Susanlynn, that was a hoot. You have to see that. :) At least in the flashback, they were out in a patch of corn. :)

You all had beaten me to the punch about the birth certificate. No need for me to commnet about that.

It must be a luxury in Mexican prisons to have a conjugal visitation room. I took some corrections classes and a lot of CCJS classes and to my knowledge, there is no mention of a conjugal visitation room here in the US.

Somecases of conjugal visits were done in minimum security prisons visiting area. They either had to be slick about it or not care and just did it. Maximum security prisoners, which Damian Gallardo would surely be a inmate due to his terrorism charge would not allow even hugs and kisses.

The time ran out last night but there will be more revelations from Artemio Bravo tonight as he thinks Gonzalo is on his last breaths. I agree that there is no code blue at that hospital. Very intriguing. At list it is better than FELS dispensario. After all it is only a dispensario and not a full blown hospital.

Regardless of Babs being guilty of killing Macario, Fernanda and Santiago are basing their thinking on assumption. They do not have factual evidence that Macario was indeed murdered by Babs. For all they know, he could have just fallen off the ditch or really had a heart attack. It happens. I don't even know how forensics can try to pinpoint any evidence to Babs because:

1) The crime scen has been compromised and contaminated. Too many weeks have passed. And the level of decomposition has been accelerated outdoors. Fact.

2) A push, kick or shove would not leave any imprint on the human body unless he is extremely fragile. And being a manual laborer even in his old age, I doubt that.

3)There are no eyewitnesses. The man simply disappeared.

This last few episodes have shown that Aurora is the prize. Every man or woman for themselves. Winner takes the prize and the way to the truth. For dear Babs, it could be redemption or revenge. One thing is for sure, the target is now squarely on Damin's back for now as all sides are vying to get him to reveal where Aurora is.

To me, based on the deathbed conversation between Artemio and Gonzalo, it is hinted that they may have met sometime so so long ago and Gonzalo does not remember it. The name Anna Gregoria Bravo seems but a faint memory also.

All will be revealed tonight. Barbara Greco will be revealed as none other than Rebecca Sanchez. It is accidental incest at it's best and that may do old daddy Gonzalo in.

I bet it was AB in that goofy disguise. I was trying to figure out when AB got into the room next door and that makes sense.

What about a stiletto-heeled shoe?

Fantastic recap, Pasofino of a tense episode.

I really thought the actor playing Gonzo and AB did a terrific job (and the editors, to splice it all together so well). One really gets the impression that there are two very different brothers, talking to each other in the same room. I actually think his acting a Gonzo is the best, and he conveys the pain, the confusion and the helplessness so well.

Connie, a stilleto heeled shoe won't make a mark with a push or even a kick. Repeated high impact kicks done correctly might. Efven then, there is no way to identify which stilleto it came from. And As I said earlier, the body would have been so decomposed by now that identification is virtually impossible 99.9% of the time. Quite frankly, a gunshot or maybe even a stabbing would be easier to identify than a push.

Have someone play push you down the slide or in a couch and see if that makes a lasting mark.

I don't know what the burden of proof in Mexico is. Here the burden proof are the following:

1) Probable Cause
2) Preponderance of evidence
3) Beyond a reasonable doubt

Beyond a reasonable doubt is the highest level of proof needed to convict someone. It is however, not 100% as we have seen a few cases overturned later because of lack of evidence or DNA exonerating them. yet it is still the highest level of *Truth*. this is derived form English Common law. You might want to ask you bosses about this. Give them the scenario of Macario being pushed to his death down the hill and the challenge of proving it without eyewitnesses and circumstantial evidence.

Ibarramedia

We do mostly estate planning and probate and trust work. You are right about the decomposition, there would be no evidence of the heel mark. I'm sure scavengers would have gotten to he body also and parts of it would be missing. If they could find something like a hair on the body that might help. But being out there that long in the elements most of any evidence would be long gone.

"I bet it was AB in that goofy disguise. I was trying to figure out when AB got into the room next door and that makes sense."

Hey Connie, what goofy guy? AB was not in a disguise but he had the guy he designated to execute Fr/ed at the hospital. The Executioner followed Fr/ed and Fer out when they went to meet with the Padre. Is that the goofy guy you're talking about?

Khalilah

Good job, Pasofino, on a jam-packed episodio!

I am wondering regarding Macario's inopportune death if perhaps the little girl (his granddaughter?) might have seen something? She seemed to be hanging around every once in a while, so who knows if she might be the witness to La Hiena's dastardly kick of Macario down the ravine.

Pasofino, thanks so much as I missed the episode, at least most of it. I always enjoy your sense of humor and your informative recaps.

If Artemio has a henchman watching Lili, I hope Fr/Ed has his own guard watching Jacinto's house where Lili is hidden since he's spent the entire novela trying to free Lili again and again. Spend Lili's cash on it, Fr/Ed.

GinCA

Thanks Pasofina..as others have said, we needed you, a confusing day.

Since we on legalities, if Gonzo dies, he has given almost everything to Babs, legally, he used a lawyer so I'm assuming that is in effect. She just handed what she had been given to AB, no signing of documents. Who will own GL in the event of Gonzo's death?

I think a lot of people will soon be jobless in tough economic times. Esteve's family can't support all them.

Sandy in TN

You hit the nail on the head Sandy. That is exactly what Artemio Bravo wants with the destruction of Grupo Lactos.

Ibarramedia

Khalilah, that's the guy. So that guy was the hit man and AB came in as himself? I'm so confused. I'll have to go back and watch it again.

Connie, I'm afraid Khalilah is correct. Artemio Bravo only came into the picture after he emerged from the door. That was one of his men.

Ibarramedia

Since Gonzo has transferred them to Barbara before his death she owns Grupo Lactos and whatever other assets that weren't really specified. She can't just walk over to AB and say here they are these are yours. She has to have other documents drawn up to transfer them to AB (presumably that is what she has done.)

Thanks Ibarramedia for confirming that. I just remembered it wrong.

I would like to think that Babs has had the documents drawn long ago. At least with a blank template that could be appropriately filled up and notarized once the transfer is done. She has had 15 years to plan this and she has proven effective in getting most projects done.

Ibarramedia

She could have and just have left it blank. She'd have to have her own attorney though. Couldn't use the same one of course.

No doubt about that Connie. I'm sure she has a team of attorneys on retainer. And she could easily bribe some of them for silence if the attorney client priviledge is not enough. I don't think someone will be stupid enough to go through sometime as complicated and life changing as that without thoughtful, careful planning all these years. You just don't wing those kin of things. Beanies be darned...

Ibarramedia

Recently it has been so chaotic at work that I have not been able to be present. But I have not missed a moment beCAUSE I always print out and take for pleasure reading on the train home. I love so much hearing from all of you!
Recappers you have given me 'food for thought', because so often I don't know what the actors are saying can't find that in my dictionary and only remember that I looked a word up before but not what the word meant. You make the word clear. You have given me laughter, for real out loud. You remove all guilt from my naughty! (Yes Margaretta, he
is
just
so
fine.)
....But back to the applause for the Recappers. Ah-hum, you did good. Do it again. Read you Monday and see you for Sortilegio!

Connie - The tall creepy guy was definitely AB in disguise. It was plain as day. Copy & paste:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3znw6hg_xJE&feature=PlayList&p=B35379DB63A8322B&index=145
and you can see him again at 5:28.

Ibarramedia - Seriously, dude, you have got to put your telenovela beanie hat back on. (said in a fun joking voice of course). I'm still hanging in there for a shoe print, or a bruise on the guy's body, with a stiletto heel mark.

There has to be some sort of incriminating evidence against Bad-@ss Barbie or they wouldn't keep talking about this guy. E only saw him once. My telenovela hat is firmly on my head, with chin strap engaged. ;o) All..... blood .... and ... oxygen ... are .... .cut ... offf ... tooo .. bbbrrraaain...... oh noes!

She is very careful in her planning that's for sure. It was obvious that Gonzo's attorney was not really down with it and advised him against it originally. It is very emotional for people to have to decide who gets their stuff. I see it all the time. Very sad.

Thanks Doris. My beanie hurts so much..... 8(:-)

I would think the Elizaldes would still retain control of Grupo Lactos since "Barbara Greco de Elizalde" is not a real person.

If not, if Artemio Bravo dies, it passes to Aurora, which would then pass to Baby Elizalde.

Doris yopu are probably right. I replayed the clip a few times to get conclusive evidence. He seems taller than Gnzalo and Artemio, Diguised himself with a fake beard over his beard and donned some glasses. Maybe the eyes and the gray hair behind the cap could possibly give it away. Fooled me and i would pick up on the details. But then again why would some other older guy just show up randomly? So you get the nod for that. Good eye.

Ibarramedia

I just went back and reviewed the referenced clip of the actor who follows Fer and Franco out of the hospital. I don't think he looks like Artemio Bravo. The shape of his nose is just too different.

Of course, the writers and producers could be putting another one over on us - or trying to put one over on us.

Readers: Thanks for all your encouraging comments during this novela. I feel like I've had a hundred friends (or more) reading and suffering along with me through all these months.

"I would think the Elizaldes would still retain control of Grupo Lactos since "Barbara Greco de Elizalde" is not a real person.

If not, if Artemio Bravo dies, it passes to Aurora, which would then pass to Baby Elizalde."

True but only if they prove that Barbara Greco does not exist and that She is Rebecca Sanchez. She has papers and documents that verify her *Double* life. Much more so than even Eduardo Juarez as Franco Santoro.

Don't forget that Priscilla also has a child and that he is named to be a significant heir(nevermind that Vladimir fathered him), unless Gonzalo has a specific stipulation naming all grandchildren present and future as heirs too.

Ibarramedia

Good point Pasofino. Maybe I was right all along. Now i'm doubting myself on what is true and what is not.

My insurance on a million shattered beanies ran out and they cancelled me. I have to look at this logically now.

Ibarramedia

I think the old man with burro will come up with sth not actually seeing it happen but maybe seeing Barb with Macario at that location. After tumbling down a ravine, I don't think you could tell spike heel prints from all the other stuff he must have rolled over.

I recognized Eva Braun (Hilda) as the phony nurse that got rid of Gardenia from Gonzo's room.

Now at least Fernanda doesn't have to break the news about Babs to her father.

Thanks, Pasofino, excellent recap!

Babs told AB that she had had las escrituras notarized before she went over to AB's house, with Aurora in the car. That is the deed of transfer of the property. So, it looks like AB really does own 60% of Lactos. I think Pris' kid still owns 40%.

Yeah, that was a quick leap to Babs having been at the house the same day Macario went missing to the assumption that she killed him.

Well, now I want to change my mind - Ack - because I watched that scene again on YouTube.

The guy who walked off the hospital elevator is one of Artemio's hit men; the tall guy who Arte put on 24-hr watch of FrEd and told him to kill FrEd as soon as he gives the order.

Good lord Doris! You made me doubt myself. ;)

Ibarramedia

I recognized Hilda disguised as a nurse, but tn I saw in a disguise was a tall guy wearing a golf cap and glasses , and I thought that was Art's goon.

Variopinta, that is Hilda alright. I'd recognize her anywhere.

Side note from a few episodes ago. I could have sworn that Erika's mama Dolly got younger or she had a facelift from her European trips to the spa.

Ibarramedia

I think there were two different Dollys.

Hey! I found "goofy guy"! He IS the executioner, not AB. Look at him here: full face veiw at 20 seconds:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7E_K-M_YTPE&feature=PlayList&p=B35379DB63A8322B&index=140

AB is with him, telling him to become Fr/ed's shadow.

Compare with the hospital scene as Fr/ed and Fer left: full face view at 5:32:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3znw6hg_xJE&feature=PlayList&p=B35379DB63A8322B&index=145

Kinda nit-picky but AB's vengeful and bold, he'd let other folk wear disguises. He's taking pride in going in there to do Gonzo in like he think poor Gonz deserves.

Khalilah

So does AB really want to kill Gonzo or just torture him a little? Gonzo really had nothing to do with AB's situation so I'm still a little confused how this is all Gonzo's fault (according to AB.)

Saya what?! Connie what happened to the other Dolly if there are two Dolly's?

Good detective work Khalilah. That's what I'm talking about.

Ibarramedia

I think there was one Dolly at the beginnnig and then she was replaced by another Dolly. I think we talked about this maybe back during the whole wedding fiasco. Go to Wiki and scroll down to the cast and it says Dolly #1 and Dolly #2.

Thanks, Ibarra! These kooky writers do keep us on our toes!

8(;-)) Khalilah

Connie, It is not logical either. But in Artemio Bravo's twisted mind, he will probably say he hates Gonzalo 'because you exist'.

Suffice it to say his mere existence as the patriarch of the Elizalde family is enough to devote his lifetime of hatred towards him.

Ibarramedia

Ummm no Connie. I will NOT go to Wikipedia. At least not until the Gran Final. I read somewhere here that the MEPS Wiki entry is loaded with spoiler bombs. I will pass for now.

Ibarramedia

Right. Ht thinks, "Because of you I was not recognized as a legal heir to the Elizalde fortune." He would have been an heir just by the fact that Don Jerry was his father. It doesn't matter whether he and the mother were married or not.

I can't spell today.

I'm protecting you from the evil spoilers so here you are:

Lourdes Munguia Dolores "Dolly" de Astorga #1

Ofelia Cano Dolores "Dolly" de Astorga #2

Hola gang! Oof, it's Friday & I'm stuck here @ work for a while but it's the 1st chance I've had to chime in.

Pasofino, THANK YOU (that's a giant one, btw). I'm so lost with the dialogue these days & since there's really no action (other than kidnappings galore), I really can't figure out all of the details. You gave me all the clarity I need! (of course, clarity is a relative term in OOPS land)

I had to laugh at the hospital scene w/ poor Gonzo...not at his suffering but at the lack of response to his beeping monitors closing in on code blue.

If Dam is a terrorist & Cad is a rapist, you'd think they'd both be in the same sh!thole prison, no?

DDenia looked stunning last night.

I was hoping Padre would convince Fr/Ed to confess to Nanda but I guess the BIG LIE will get strung out til the gran fin.

If Babs signed legal docs with an fake identity, are they legit? Would that negate the terms of the will? We all know she won't end up with GL or the pile of pesos & I'm probably better off not trying to figure this out.

oof. I want to go home.

Maggarita
:-/

Great job pasofino, hope you're going to also do Sortilegio. The comments are great and have said just about everything that I might have commented on. So that saves me from a lot of rehashing:-) So, I'll just say 1) ditto on Eddie's attire and attitude. Both are too business like. 2) Due to the way telenovelas usually work, I don't think Fer and Santi will have to prove Barb's involvement in the old mans death. It's more likely that Barb will confess or we're missing a clue that will turn up later. 3) Didn't Barb think to herself that AB would not be able to collect the inheritence since it was in the name of Barbara Greco?

4) I also thought that the scene with Lili and the girls collecting corn was copied and pasted out of the blue and didn't relate to what was happening up to that point.

5) This is one time that I hope that Gardenia's leaving the room doesn't get her in trouble. If a doctor or nurse asks you to leave the room, you have no choice and you usually don't ask for proof of identity. The only thing, I would have waited outside the door and would not have gone to the cafeteria.

Despite its shortcomings, I'm going to remember this as one of the Telenovelas that really enjoyed. I'm glad it's ending while I still feel very positive about it.

In Artemio's mind, Gonzo had all the advantages, while his mother suffered. You would be a little PO'ed
but to the point that Artemio is?
And Artemio doesn't seem to be indigent & what did Gonzo have to do with it anyway, unless there is sth more. Lets all be mad at Jerónimo, he was the one responsible & Altagracia who sent pobre Ana Gregoria out in the rain with hijo Artemio, just after giving birth.
And they are both muerto, so you take it out on innocent people? A sick mind.

Part of Artemio's justifyiable anger is that Jerry and Alty made an effor to NOT share the wealth and Gonzalo would have the full inheritance. Half Brothers, particularly bastards where deemed disgraceful back then. That is why Alty did not want Artemio recognized as an Elizalde.

If Artemio decided to reveal himself long ago and claim his birthright, I think the famly would more than be ok with that with the few oppers being the greedy duo of Anibal and Camilo. Montserrat would have presumably died from her illness(Babs killing her just sped things up imho) to be an influence.

Back in the very early days of Manana, I was Guessing that Artemio was a disgruntled business partner that had a falling out with Gonzalo ans was looking for revenge as a result.

Ibarramedia

Yep, weird hospital guy is Arte's henchman. Glad we got THAT straightened out.

So they did a Dolly Mama switcheroo? I never noticed. Yikes.

What happened Connie? Did the first Dolly Die like the Padre Anselmo from Cuidado? And no i did not follow the show, just the first and last week....

Ibarramedia

Dolly, & being pregnant were so unnecessary, who would notice or care? I only saw it on Wiki & thought sth important was going to happen concerning her. Another reason not to look a Wiki.

MAggarita, Camilo will soon be joining Damian in the big house. Camilo was transported out of jail and is enroute to prison. The news of that was what sent Gonzalo to the hospital due to his myocardial infarction. The attorneys news of the failure of the appeal, to be more specific.

Ibarramedia

I just think sth happened with the actress playing Dolly & it was such an insignificant part, who would notice a chg? Maybe
she just got a better role in sth else.

Well, old Gonzo finally had is moment of stark clarity. That was a great scene though I wish that Gardenia had been a bit more skeptical and persistent. What a great time for her to suddenly become compliant. Maybe she'll have an opportunity to make up for it tonight. So many loose ends and so little time.

Carlos

Changing actors seems to be a common practice in telenovelas. In Al Diablo Con Los Guapos, there were two different pool guys. In Cuidado Con el Angel there were two Father Anselmos. But, the first Anselmo died or got sick. Now we have two Dolly mamas in Manana to add to the list.

IM, the first Dolly didn't die. The funny thing is that we never really noticed. And then when we did we tried to think back but nothing really significant happened so we really don't know.

Pasofino, thank you so much for the super recap - this was a very difficult episode to understand.

I think that AB's problem with Gonzo is that "the grass is always greener"... He is just green eyed jealous.

rsk

Carlos, the timing was wrong for our Gardenia to be compliant. But after having Jacinto, Margarita, Flor,Eduardo and Franco(both guises) and finally Fernanda take her to task, she just had to...

Besides, there are no signs for Gardenia to be paranoid and start asking every medical personnel for ids. Compare this to Michael Corleone from the Godfather noticing the nurses station suddenly becoming empty and no one else is around. No doctors and cars sreeching in. Michel knew something was up and he switched rooms that Don Corleone was in, thus saving his life.

Ibarramedia

Toodles everyone! I get to leave early today. I'll check back in later 8(:-)

FYI
Guillermo Capetillo (Anibal) is the son of a famous matador Manuel.
Guillermo was also a matador & singer. His half bro is Eduardo, the Reyes cousin in FELS.

Great recap. I knew I recognized the nurse that kicked Gardenia out. Art was smart not to go to the hospital alone and to make sure no one was with Gonzo when he went in the room.

I agree last nights episode was full of action. I guess that means that things are starting to come to an end. Hopefully Art won't kill Gonzo with the truth about everything.

I wonder if Fer will go see Damian and tell him about Barbie being Aurora's mom. I think she should go see him just for that.
--TF

Thanks for the recap PasoFino! This was probably the most confusing episode yet. There were lots of edits and cuts that just left me bewildered. The editors aren't doing the audience any favors. Everyone was everywhere, I was beginning to think that they all had teleporters to get here and there so quickly.

I did laugh at the "corn scene". The corn fairies were there! They picked the corn and left it on the ground to save the girls from all that nail-breaking labor!

One thing is REALLY bothering me...How did Damian get a "conjugal visit cell"?? Aren't terrorism suspects considered maximum security prisoners? I know it's not Gitmo, but come on.. even a county jail doesn't do that. (I know, I know... must. tighten. beanie!) 8(;p

Thanks, all recappers, for the last weeks recaps. Back from Whistler BC, and had to rely on the rcaps to keep up with the acontecimientos de los ultimos capitulos. No Univision in BC, youtube was unreliable. A lot has happened, eager for tonight's twists...

Can't figure out the corn thing, but in the flashback with little Eduardo, they did show a cornfield.

Reminds of when a hurricane was coming, we went down to the beach & the waves were throwing a school of fish onto the shore, people were there with buckets just picking them up off the sand.

Great work, Pasofino! What a time for Gardenia to fizzle out on us. I really thought she was going to be a great guard dog and then pffft! Going to the cafeteria was a stupid move, I agree.// My guess is that Fer is trying to get Fr/Ed to confess the truth about his real identity to her. She doesn't have time left to get really p.o.'d with him now, so she'll probably forgive him on the spot. JMO.

If the Elizaldes were really using their heads, they would use their wealth and resources to have armed guards outside the room and inside the room. That is what i would do.

The elizalde family is wealthy enough to get that kind of security detail. Especially now that Franco and Fernanda know that lives are in danger. Far less influential and affluent witnesses from Law& Order and Law & Order svu have had guards stationes outside their room.

I can accept a single corn on the ground but the rest will have to be harvested. They will not fool the audience. Especially the Mexican Audience since Corn is the fondatiojn of their diet and thus be familiar with how it is harvested.

Ibarramedia

Regarding the corn scene with Lil, et al, if I remember correctly from seeing part of this episode in Mexico, they must have done a lot of editing for the US. It must have something to do with time constraints - God forbid if they cannot get all of their sponsorship on the air.

rsk

rsk: You watched this twice? You must be a very strong person.

Thanks, Pasofino. Out all day and just now catching up with the recap. (Not to mention catching up with the things I didn't understand while watching.) Lots of good comments, too. I hope Gonzo can stay awake/alive long enough to fully comprehend Barb's dastardly deeds.
La Paloma

Pasofino, no I have not seen the whole thing twice, just parts of it. There is not much else to watch in Mexico. My addiction with novellas started in Mexico several years ago. When I returned to Houston I found that I would watch them here and by then I was hooked as well as several of my friends.

rsk

I liked the corn scene. It seemed to signal that Lili is coming out of her stupor by just remembering those past times and being in Jacinto & Margarita's home as they are so connected to Soledad and Eduardo. She hasn't looked so happy, relaxed, and alert since the beginning.
