Sortilegio: Our new Monday recapper isn't quite ready yet--Discussion page

Hello campers,

I don't think the new Monday recapper Khavele realized we usually get the recaps up the night of the show. So she was planning to post, evidently - tonight. So in the mean time, if anybody wants to discuss, feel free to use this post. Sorry!

CHF: I usually posted as early the next morning as possible. Anyway

I'm still loving William Levy and Jacqueline Bracamonte in this novela. That is, as long as she doesn't show too much of her gums and that silly sand-paper giggle that she did in Tontas.

I also love Vickie and her young man, what's his name. If the roles were reversed, no one would be kvetching about it out there.

It seems like so much has happened in this novela already. Murder, attempted murder, forgery, lust, love and intrigue at every turn. I just hope we don't have to live with Alejandro as he searches the world for Maria Jose.

Bruno plots to take the girls and papa to the US after getting them paper or passports in Mexico City. He and Eric may be the only willing passengers going across the border. Paula never had it so good, and she knows it and doesn't want to leave. And, I wonder if papa really needs as much protection as the girls think he does.

I also love the decor in the mansion. It reminds me that this is really Fantasyland.

I post mine as early in the morning as I can. I think MJ gets prettier each episode. Maybe it is just me.

Connie: JB is very pretty as long as she doesn't giggle.

Also, I hope Vickie isn't forced into making a Sofi's choice, but, that may be inevitable. At least it won't be between good and good.

My boyfriend and I are 18 years apart in age. People look at us funny but I don't care what they think.

I'm still trying to figure out what those dangly things are hanging from the ceiling in the middle of the room.

I don't think it's the age difference that's bothersome about Vicky and Fernando, but that he's her stepson's best friend. Has she known him since he's was a little boy?

I love those hanging beads. They're so random. It's not like they're even used as a room divider; they are right in the way where everyone always has to walk through them. Maybe they make (more) rainbows when the light hits them.

Pasofino, i think if the roles were reversed and Alejandro was Alejandra and Fernando Fernanda and instead of Victoria, it was Antonio there would still be a eww factor.....

Alejandra: So how was last night with my dad?

Fernanda: Oh, it went well. We had dinner, a movie then a night of passion. Oh, he was so gentle with me...

Alejandra: Okaaay. Sorry I asked. Awkwaaard.

Agreed with connie and Julia. In fact, I could go 10 years up and 20 years down and it's all good to me. ;) :)

I can just hear it now. "Viewerville's" collective groan.

Connie: Those "dangly things" were popular in the early 70s as room dividers and I didn't know that they were back - or are they? Maybe the TN set designers are toying with us.....

I didn't think I would watch this TN since WL and JB are not my favorites but they seem to be growing on me as is the novela.

I remember them from the 70's but they were like a whole door full not just one or two hanging in random places. I didn't even like them then. My kids have the Ewww factor--they don't like me dating someone so young. Oh well, I've earned it. :-)

In a previous episode weren't there candles hanging randomly from the ceiling that people were smacking into?

Is this show supposed to be taking place in the 70s? Does anybody decorate like this any more?

I sure hope not! The colors are more like the 80's. It kind of reminds me of Miami Vice.

Re. last night's cap, MJ insists she won't sleep with Alex because she's not in love but the way MJ was touching Alex's hair and neck implies different, no?!! Oh well....
CubsFan

From what I saw they looked good together until Bruno barged in. I fell asleep after that so missed the whole end. That guy will never learn to knock.

Oh, and I thought Pau stealing from her sister was pretty crappy.

Connie, since Bruno will never learn to knock, MJ & Alex should learn to lock the door :)
CubsFan

Julia...at some point Alexander said Fernando grew up poor so they probably didn't know each other in their youth. Possibly they just got to know each other when Fernando got the job as engineer with the company.

what was Fernando's family situation? I keep waiting to hear he was an orphan or abandoned child.
Thank you Recappers and Jardinera you have silenced all my guilt over not reading great books anymore.

Yeah locking the door would be a much simpler solution. Last night Bruno looked almost handsome. Or, maybe not...

The mansion is really the enchanted castle. Alejandro is Prince Charming; Maria Jose is Cinderella, and Bruno is the wicket stepsister. Ooops, I meant stepbrother. So, who will be the Fairy Godmother?

Connie~~~You go , girl. Hub and I are the same age , and I always dated guys my age , but age is just a number. If two people get along and are mutually attracted to each other, it doesn't matter who is older. I cannot stand Paula. What a brat. Evidently Paula is proof positive that not all mean girls are rich. Bruno never looks attractive to me, but I'd like to see more of that lazy, n'er-do-well Roberrrtttoooo. MJ is sending mixed signals...letting Al kisskisskiss her and hanging onto his neck while they dance. Women don't usually put their hands on the nape of the neck unless they are attracted to a guy. Al was unwise to let Maura lure him outside. Naturally, MJ was able to overhear their conversation. Here we go...sigh.

Pasofino, I vote Felipa as the fairy godmother!!!
Cubsfan

CHF thanks for providing a posting place until the real thing comes along:-) Pasofino, I love your post. I ditto everything you said especially your hope that we don't have to live with Alex as he searches the world for MJ:-)

Only one thing, I think it's time to cut MJ some slack on her gummy smile (They look like dentures to me).

I'm also a Vickie fan. Her heart is in the right place. She and WL are my 2 favorites.

As for the age difference discussion, I know we're supposedly condeming the mother-best friend relationship and not the age difference, Still, men who share intimate details of a relationship with a friend have no idea how many times that friend tries to hit on the woman behind his back. Some men lie and say that what happens in the bedroom stays in the bedroom. But as we know, some men like to make other men envious by sharing intimate details of what happens in the bedroom. Many men would end a friendship if they found out that their friend was dating their mom. Otherwise, if he could handle the man as a friend, then he should be able to handle comments like "your mom gives a good backrub". I know that would not have worked with either of my brothers to have a so called friend discuss my mother in the same tone that they would discuss someone they met in a bar.

PS: I was hoping that the nicknames Mau and Pau wouldn't stick. They sound so ugly.

I don't think MJ is sending mixed signals at all. She has not denied that she is attracted to Alex, her only fear (not that he knows the truth) is that he is just using her for 1)sex and/or 2)to get a rise out of Bruno. Alex is the one who is sending mixed signals by telling her he likes her because of who she is, that he does not intend to hurt her and that he is nothing like his brother, while at the same time clearly enjoying kissing/caressing MJ at just the right moments in front of Bruno to get a rise out of him. If I were MJ I would be cautious too that he was just playing a game with me.

-Vivi in DC

It is always better to be cautious. That's why I haven't married him yet! I missed the end of the show. Did MJ go with Bruno?

Connie, she didn't go with Bruno last night, but the avances show them together in a car. So I guess they'll be together tonight. Avances have Alex looking for her.

Connie: They showed MJ in a car crying and it looked like Bruno forced his hand even though she had told him earlier that she had changed her mind and didn't want to go.....

It seems that WL and MJ only smile at each other/enjoy each other when they go out to dinner ALONE - hint, hint, you all need to be ALONE for a while to work out your differences and find a common ground.

Sorti in AZ

Forgot to add a note to MJ: lose your sister.......she's spoiled, she's a brat, she's a thief, and she's only using you.

Sorti in AZ

I hope there is a piecart just waiting for Bruno at the top of a hill somewhere.

Vivi in DC:
I agree! Alex is quite manipulative and ruthless with MJ. (Not that I would mind him being ruthless with me). He pressures her and then turns on the charm as soon as Bruno is around. I can see why he doesn't trust her but GEEZ....
I do love a smart hero, though!

Paula and Bruno should have had an encounter with a willow switch a long time ago. Unfortunately, it is too late now.

Okay okay..Bruno is a slimeball and a cad. And those scarves with the open shirt...ugh. BUT, in short-sleeved shirts, mama mia! fabulous biceps. As long as he keeps in short sleeves, I'm willing to give him a little screen time.

Oh, and Susanlynn:
I think we should vote Paula off the island. Stealing from your sister—How tacky! Paula seems like all-around bad news.

JudyB--especially for you! http://cisoto.blogspot.com/2008/07/man-of-month-david-zepeda.html

I'm not sure if Judy would like those pictures Connie. He wasn't wearing short sleeves. ;)

He actually looks to be a friendly sort in them, much friendlier than he appears in Sortilegio.

Elna- I hear ya. I wouldn't mind being used by Alex in that way either. :) "You mean I HAVE to kiss you again? Well...ok"

-Vivi in DC

I have to somewhat disagree with you Elna. Alex turns on the charm and is nice MJ many times without Bruno in the area. Last night, he was kissing MJ and Bruno came in the door. Instead of continuing to kiss MJ and p*ss off Bruno some more, he stopped and confronted Bruno. Alex appeared to be most definitely annoyed that Bruno showed up and interrupted them. Methinks he was enjoying the moment without thinking about Bruno. :)

Who sang that song ''Just keep on using me until you use me up?''

JeffMN:
You have a point. Alex does seem to be moving toward really liking MJ. I still think he has been a bit rough with her though.
Vivi:
I think Bill Withers sang that song...Now I am going to have that refrain going round and round in my head. "...Til you use me up.."I should be so lucky ;D!

Yikes, Connie...no, he wasn't wearing short sleeves...wasn't wearing much of anything.

Well, bless you my child..that was thoughtful of you.

Well, I'll tell you... the end of this episode was the first time during this whole time that I was yanked back to the unwelcome horror of FUEGO and DUELO scripts (just a little). Up to this point, SORTI has been forging different ground than what I'm used to, with a fast-moving and packed beginning, intelligent dialogue, a smart hero, a villain who is downright dastardly but not so over the top as to be cartoonish, etc. So my bubble did burst a tad when we were treated to that old tired standby--bad girl "lures" good guy outside so good girl can witness a staged intimate moment. The way Alex has dealt with Maura so far, he would have seen that coming a mile off and avoided it, unless he was drunk as a skunk. I mean, come on.

I would really like to know more about Fernando.

Felipa would be the perfect fairy godmother. :)

Bruno looks GREAT in short sleeves! Can I hear an amen.

Now that Alex feels MJ is just a victim in the scheme, he'll ease up on her a bit, I think. But I don't blame him for staking his claim to her whenever Bruno comes in the room. He's not so much using her as he is warning Bruno to stay AWAY and not dare harm MJ anymore than he already has.

Alex knew someone tried to kill him off. And there was MJ, poised to inherit all of his assets by a fake marriage, acting all shady and suspicious, with photoshopped pics. Of course he was going to be hard on her and testing her left and right until sure she was innocent!

Especially with all the gold-digging Mauras he's probably had in his life. He's a corporate executive who knows appearances can be very deceiving.

He is NOT Juan Miguel San Roman (Cuidado), thank gawd. Meh.

I agree that Alex is staking his claim to MJ because he has told Bruno thanks for picking out an beautiful wife for me. Love Bruno's expressions when Alex makes his digs at him. Bruno has no one to blame but himself and pimp daddy Erik for scoping out MJ they should have chosen Paula instead. This is the second novela I've seen David Zepeda in the first being Accoralda where he was the lead and William the supporting actor. Does anyone know if he starred in any other novelas. His acting has improved also. He wasn't that good in Accoralda.

I'll have you know I BOOKMARKED that link, Connie. Rather quickly. Whoa.

Haha I completely agree with Stephe--Alejandro Lombardo is not Dr.Juan Miguel San Roman! Along with looks, he actually has a brain that he uses. Not that I didn't love William Levy in Cuidado, but I'm really enjoying him being the smart HOTTIE vs the dim-witted HOTTIE!

For any other Tontas watchers, did any of you notice that Lulu made an appearance as Alex's personal assistant? She and Jackie are reunited again. ;)

-Vivi in DC

Stephe - I was disappointed with the end of this episode also. It really upset me. I thought I must be having a bad day.

Connie - Good for you! Spring - Autumn etc.

I think Ale, and MJ are feeling the Chemistry, along with viewerville.

I thought it might be Lulu when I first saw her.

I'll have to agree with Elna -- I also think Alex has been pretty rough so far with Maria Jose. He really does seem a bit manipulative and extremely controlling. Not that you can blame him for being on alert what with the assassination attempts and the history he has with Bruno, but still - it spoils the magic of the galan for me...But I do enjoy the fact that he is a smart galan nonetheless!

And JudyB and Connie -- I really like Bruno too, in a bad boy kind of way - not his actions, of course, but David Zepeda does have quite a body! I think he also starred in several mexican soaps and worked for TV Azteca for a bit as a show host and one of the leads in the novela they produced "Amores Cruzados". I didn't watch Acorralada regularly, but did enjoy all the beach/shirtless scenes they had there (both DZ and WL!), even though the storyline was not very good. Sortilegio though is beating records, Zepeda is acting great and WL is doing a really good job as well!

Victoria is living proof why some people should not be blessed with children. Still protecting your homicidal maniac of a son. Yes above all else let's not have an scandal what about the family name. That's why your two demon spawns Raquel and Bruno turned out rotten to the core. As they say Karma a beatch.
