En Nombre del Amor, Friday 13 November

I didn't have a chance to recap and it looks like no one else did, either, but here's a place to discuss the episode in case anyone wants to.

I can't even remember what happened. Paloma and Emiliano slept in his car after lots of purple prose and smoochy smooching. Padre Juan/Cris found them and helped Paloma sneak back into her house. He had another uncomfortable conversation with delusional Carlota.

What else?

Comments:
Carlota reported Cristobal to Padre Benito, claiming he had come to her house for seduction purposes. Also, we found out that Inez was the one who beat up Diana per Diana's request so that she could frame Orlando.

That's all I can remember offhand.

I had such high hopes for Inez's character. Can't believe she went along with that idiotic plan!!
I am having a little trouble remembering the events of the episode also. Was there a conversation at the very end that Paloma walked in on and we heard the "uh oh" music???

Now that I see y'all's comments, I remember that I stopped watching midway through the episode to go do something else, and never went back and finished it. No wonder I don't remember what happened. I was thinking, "was this an EXCEPTIONALLY dull episode?"

Carlota continues to make me laugh with her attempts to seduce Cris. Finally some comedy in this show.

I Think The Uh Oh Music At The End Was Paloma Walking In On Carlota And Rufi Discussing What Paloma And Padre Juan Have In Common...And Then It Ended.

Since I watch Friday’s episode on tape late Sunday nights, some of it is fresh in my mind.

Rufi told the birds in the cage that she had decided that she was going to tell Paloma the truth. She goes to the church and prays about it, when Padre Mateo shows up and asks how she’s doing, since she was so worried before. She says okay, but the decisions she has to make do affect her health, and she observes that it must be easier being a priest – priests always know what to do. Padre Mateo says it’s not so easy because priests have to worry about so many people, not just their own small circle. Somewhere in the conversation, he says that a priest can have a little pre-priesthood indiscretion or two, but for someone who wants to be higher up, like a bishop for instance, their background must be completely pure.

Rufi agonizes internally. My question: Padre M said this like he was just mentioning the burdens of the priesthood, but wasn’t he the one she was telling in the confessional that Chris had a child out of wedlock?

For those who didn’t see it: Chris, who had been part of the search party for the missing Emiliano, found them cuddled together (completely clothed, natch, because they are Pure) asleep in Em’s new car early in the morning. He says he’ll help Paloma get by Carlota. At the household, Carlota is up and dressed and is asking Rufi why Paloma isn’t awake yet, and how come the juice isn’t ready yet, and how come Rufi’s wearing the same outfit as yesterday. Rufi tries to fake answers, but Carlota looks squinty-eyed.

Chris rings the doorbell and says he needs to chat with Carlota, who is cops an “I knew you would come to me” attitude. The lovebirds hide in the car. Chris asks Carlota to walk down the street with him so they can chat, but she says come to my chambers. He reluctantly agrees and after they’ve gone inside, Rufi shoos Paloma safely into the house.

In her office, Carlota comes on to Chris and says You know you always wanted me. He says blech and leaves. She calls Padre Benito to tell him Chris came to her.

Angie suggests to Orlando that Diana had set him up and they both wonder who was that woman who called and told him to go to Diana’s house that fateful day.

I really liked the love scene with Em and Paloma. It was very intense, like sex without the sex, and both actors did an excellent job, even seeming to be genuinely moved to tears..

Thanks for the recap Maggie. I was away camping this weekend, so missed all the Friday shows. To answer your question, Rufi never told Mateo about Paloma and Chris. Just that there was a secret Mac told her that concerns Paloma, and that Carlotta was hurting Pal by having this thing be a secret. His advice was to tell the truth. Carlota told the other priest about the bastard child thing, but of course the priest can't compare notes!

Maggie, your "he says blech and leaves" is classic.

still laughing...

thanks, Viv! I had forgotten that.

Oh, and Julia, you were right - that was Orlando's house that was all appointed, and not the guest house. What's up with Angie just walking in without knocking? Maybe it's more like a guest room instead of a guest house.

I just remembered something else: Padre Benito told Chris off for going to see Carlota and told him if he wants to make bishop, he has to stay away from Carlota and anyone in her family, which includes Paloma.

Thanks all. And to Julia for giving us a place to comment on Friday's episode.

Boy, Cris is sure evidence of that saying: No good deed goes unpunished. He saves Paloma's bacon and then Carloca uses his visit to her house as evidence of his pursuing her.

I never was crazy about Benito. He kept forcing him to go to Real del Monte. Of course he had to do that for the novela's plot and to discover that Macarena was alive. But Benito didn't know that; he just wanted obedience. Now it looks like he's believing Carloca.

There was a scene also where Samuel runs into Carloca in the street and remembers her from when he hit on her in Mexico City. He proceeds to practically slobber over her. Of course she resists, but goes away with a little smirk of pride that he can't see. This will be more evidence in her sick mind of how irresistible she is.

After Padre Juan has entered Carlota's lair in the house, Rufi rushes the kids, Em and Pal, from the car so Pal can go up to her room without Carloca catching her. So of course, Rufi takes forever to say something I can't remember now, and Pal and Em take another eternity saying a "smoochy" goodbye. Idiots...was what I was screaming at the TV but Pal did miraculously make it upstairs so she could change into her school clothes.

In the previews, there was a mention of marriage by Romi with Em in the scene so I guess the paternity test results will be revealed soon. I think we know how the test will turn out.

Ines whacked Diana twice in the face with something. I am not sure if it was a boxing glove conveniently placed on the living room floor or a shoe into which Ines put her hand?

Julia, thanks for setting up this discussion post. "Smoochy smooching" ha ha.

You know, until he had dinner with RoMEANa the other day, I had missed ever episode that Samuel appeared in, and now I've missed his second encounter with Carloca. Wouldn't it be interesting if those two got together (even if briefly)? They deserve each other!

My question is, wouldn't Sam and Carloca already know each other? She and Mac were living across the street when Sam and Camila were married, right?

-Vivi in DC

Vivi, I wondered the same thing myself. I think the implication is that even when Samuel lived there and was still married to Camila, he paid absolutely no attention to things on the home front, including the neighbors.

...and I can understand why Sam didn't recognize Carlota when he hit on her in Mexico City. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't recognize a lot of my neighbors from a decade ago if I saw them in a different setting. There are a few I've been closer to and would know anywhere, but a lot of those people...easily forgotten acquaintances.

Whadaya mean Paloma and Em didn't have sex? It was truly having sex without having sex. It couldn't have been more intimate or beautiful if they had actually done the deed. Great acting by Sebastian and Allison.

Padre Benito is a tight ass who wants total obedience. Notice the tense jaw and TMJ tightness when he talks.

The conversation Rufi was having with Cristobal in the am when Paloma was trying to sneak home: She says a bunch of how great he is for looking out for Paloma, Take-Care-of-Mi-Nina-stuff that is the EXACT wording of Macarena on her deathbed. In fact, i think they tried to almost voice-over it with Macarenas voice. And Cristobal gets a real weird look too like he is remembering ...

And Inez used boxing gloves (weighted?) to hit Dianabananana- 'otra vez Inez, y mas fuerza'...
