Gancho - Wed Nov 18 - I do, but I love you and don't
Hi all. Patching in remotely and actually downloaded and watched on the plane so the sound wasn't that great and I had no subtitles. My detail may not be there, but hopefully you got the spirit of it all. It was also hard because I haven't quite caught up so I don't know why these two got married in the first place, or why Sal has a tick, or how Rolu got out of his cast, or how Aldo got on the altering potions. Yes, I'm off again. I think Sylvia will help me post next week as I'm not sure if I'll be able to. If anyone wants to help feel free as well hope all is well!!!
So the bride of Frankenstein shows up late to the party, but darn if she doesn’t still show, disheveled and all. She claims she was robbed or something. The audience is not convinced, and Xime is freaked about Lalo being on the ground. Mau offers to postpone things but Con will have none of that.
Ivan chews out Aldo, knowing he’s drugged up. Aldo on his juiced muscles punches out Ivan. Yikes.
Rolu encourages Xime to give resuscitation to Lalo, but he gets a water bath just as she smacks away. He thinks he’s in hell.
Mau visit’s the kids table who are all very long about the pending nuptials. Aldo rebels and leaves not wanting to be here.
Oscar and Jero chat about the utility of Beto. Nieves was whining about her past and everyone is shocked so Alicia goes to run after her and Mona wants to be alone.
Mau takes to the drink and everyone tries to talk him out of it.
Coni has changed clothes and hair and the ceremony looks like it will go forward while Mona punches a bag alone. That has to suck. We get various flashbacks of their most romantic moments and then see her running out.
The ceremony is beginning and Mona is running. With super high heels on. I give these actresses credit man.
Mau is asked if he accepts and instead turns to see Mona standing there, so tells her he loves her, she responds. The judge asks again. No balls accepts. It’s over. Lalo is the only one thrilled. Instead of a kis he gives a look of ice. Coni yells at him to stay.
Nieves tells Ali she doesn’t want to talk about stuff. Ali is yelling at her when Beto comes in upset that Con married. Ma as usual tries to cheer him up. Of course dinner will do it.
The wedding continues. Coni and Mau almost as far apart as they could possibly be. Xime proposes a toast. Coni is happy. Xime makes all kinds of genral toasts for extinct animals and world peace. Lalo pipes up she should be toasting the novios, and Jero wields his heavy hand yelling at her to sit.
Triste Mona returns to tell her buds what happened.
Sal and Gabi discuss the sad situation and affirm how lucky they are to be together. Gabi ends up offering to allow him to stay at her house.
Beto goes to see Mona and reminds her that despite the wedding going forward she is not alone. She has her friends and him. He suggests they try to see each other as lovers, and that he could be her consolation prize. Eh, that doesn’t go over well. She reminds him she just wants him as a friend.
Aldo is paying the piper some more for a pack of stuff. Estre spots him and asks Chubi what just happened. He drugdar is up. She asks Ivan if he knows why Aldo was with Chubi. Ivan figures out Chubi must be the supplier.
Mona and Beto continue with their conversation, her singing Mau’s virtues. So he starts talking about Momia’s good sex. This conversation doesn’t go anywhere good, really. She accuses that he only wants her because Con is married. Blah Blah this fight goes on. Beto still thinks she should jump his bones.
Cesar is enamored with how yummy Nieves food is. They peck. Beto shows up and Cesar proclaims the mood is about to change.
Sal and Gabi have a nice chat about their own virtues over a bottle of vino.
Beto complains to Ma about Mona not wanting him as a man.
Sal decides tonight is the night. Gabi agrees.
Cesar announces that he’s made it such that she will have a fight to recuperate her title. He wants her to train tomorrow. She’s happy, but not.
Alicia is there too and is fond of Cesar as well. She tries to cheer up Mona too. They talk about Mona’s Mom. This would appear to be an anvil.
Sal and Gabi continue kissy facing. She pulls off his rug!!!! Wow did not expect that!!! She can’t stop laughing. Ooops her discovers why and is understandably upset and leaves.
Mau is at home drinking again. Tere discourages him.
Beto and Nieves are talking but Cesar interrupts. The key things here is she sends him to the pharmacy for her pills, oh and his, the ones that make him, well happy. Beto wants to know what those are!!! Nieves is coaching him to try for a really long time if he wants to get Mona back, little by little and no more flautas, only one love.

Mau gets out of the shower to find a Coni type person on his bed. She drops her robe and wants them to have their “honeymoon”. Ha! He frowns and that’s it til next time.

Wow Kris, way to perform under fire. Carlos wrote his with the flu and now you turned out this one under really dire conditions. Amazing.
I love it that Nieves and Cesar are beginning to wear matching wardrobes. They were both in robin's egg blue last night (blue to match Cesar's viagra pills?) and I was just about doubled over with laughter at Sal and Gaby's ill-fated love scene.

Kris, I really enjoyed this recap. It's like s coherent series of snapshots chronicling last night's show, much like the snapshots you use to illustrate your usual recaps. Very tasty indeed. I'm impressed especially with the obstacles you had to deal with.

Sylvia and Emilia, do you put lime juice in your Dark and Stormy? Most of the recipes just say ginger beer and rum (Black Seal) but the 1st I found also used the juice of 1/2 lime.
Do most wedding planners have a spare wedding dress on hand just in case? Coni certainly makes a beautiful bride. Too bad her inner beauty is somewhat deficient.

Güera from Syracuse...good to hear from you again. Beto is becoming more fascinating with each episode. Quite an actor, I must say.
What really killed me was that when Lalo came to and realized he was being kissed by a woman he wondered "if he was in Hell"? Not very complimentary to our share of the planet, I must say.
So glad this one continues to be funny and yes, Carlos...our wicked Constanza was beautiful...both in a shambles and re-done...but inside, she's black as pitch, icy as a glacier and evil beyond all bearing. A POX ON HER!!!

Judy, I definitely worry about my kids. But not that there would be any unplanned pregnancies with a secret lover! I think (I hope) they know a little bit more about family planning than typical telenovela characters.
I'm hoping that Mau is strong, and resists Coni's charms. I sort of think he will, since he previously had a drunken fling with her, and she claimed she was pregnant, even started to fake the test results, but backed down. That was a loooooong time ago, and this show is only about half done. Good thing it's so much fun!

Thanks, Kris. My daughter has to fly from Toronto to Manhattan for work occasionally, but I don't know if she carries a laptop with her. I remember that our Jeanne [Schoolmarm] used to travel quite frequently and would read the recaps on her laptop while waiting i airports. I miss her here. I've missed the last 2 weeks of episodes and have not yet read the recaps so I share your confusion Kris on several surprising and unwelcome turn of events, particularly that Mau and Coni actually married. Completely dismayed at whatever befell poor, sweet Aldo...

Sal seems to have been wearing an obvious toupee from the beginning. I caught a glimpse of him in some noonday tele where he was playing a doctor, and his hair was thin but he wasn't bald. So dunno. But the twitching, ticcing, bald-becoming seduction scene was just another great one in a long line of this underwatched funny-as-hell novela.

Mike, as luck would have it, today Linda and I had lunch at Goodson's. (We take off Thur. afternoons) Their large chicken fried steak must be see to be believed. It fills up and overhangs the plate. It's served with a great cream gravy and huge yeast rolls which are absolutely wonderful. They used to put a whipped honey-butter on the table, but not these days. It began as a small cafe by the tracks (tables and walls would shake when trains went by). Now it's in a much larger more convenient location and Ma Goodson, the crusty but lovable former proprietor, has passed on to her reward. It's always busy and the vegetables are fresh and tasty. The squash casserole is especially popular.

Carlos, I just wish Diane's brother had a doctor like you. I'm sure he'd be doing much better. He has been discharged from the hospital and has to have someone drive him in from New Jersey to Sloan-Kettering for chemo. Now that's something that would wear me out even if I weren't ill (and suffering chemo effects). While I'm on my knees I'm praying the researchers come up with a better way to treat cancer. The current method seems only a tad better than the Inquisition.
Judy, these days my experience with chemotherapy is mostly with breast cancer and this has been much better than in my earlier years. In the earlier days of my practice, it was indeed nightmarish. Mutilating, crippling surgery followed by gruesome chemotherapy. Perhaps I've been lucky, but with aggressive screening, early intervention, a talented surgeon who has devoted himself to treating breast cancer, the norm is a biopsy followed by lumpectomy and limited lymphnode dissection and a short course of chemo. It's been several years since I've had a patient die from breast cancer. I was very alarmed with this recent announcement recommending much later and less frequent mammography, because it is just that, early and reasonably frequent screening that has accounted for what I'm seeing in my practice.
I and my patients are fortunate that even though we're on the outskirts of Houston, we have excellent , convenient resources at hand. Fortunately for Diana's brother, he has an excellent well-respected source (Sloan-Kettering) available even though it is not exactly conveniently located for them, and more importantly he has a loving, devoted, caring sister like Diana. He's blessed in that respect.
Certainly you are correct. We need something better for all forms of cancer, and there are some very hopeful possibilities on the horizon.

Sylvia, after lunch today we gathered the essentials for Dark and Stormy. No Strohs Rum (160 proof, intriguing) at Specs, the store that usually has everything so we picked up some Black Seal. They didn't have any ginger beer but the clerk sent us to HEB which did, so I'm all set. Time for Gancho so maybe during the break. I'll leave out the lime to begin with.

I thought it was funny that Gabi and Sal headed for the couch, after the earlier scene where it was hurting his back. Gabi should have told Sal she'd go for criterion behavior if he saw a doctor. It's lame, but she needs to wield any power she may have because that dude has GOT to get some medical help.

The world is tough enough without ripping on people over a goofy telenovela. We are lucky that this current one is very good-natured so it puts us in a good mood to begin with. Now if only there was a pirate in the mix. I think Costeño looks kind of pirate-like with his long tresses, his glistening muscular body and his...oh excuse me, what were we talking about?

Hi guys. Tonight's episode was laugh out loud funny again. When Beto asked for Constanza's "chones" and then flipped her his malodorous boxers, I really lost it. And a new mama promises to add more spice to the mix.

We've had a lovely newscaster, mother of two, die this last year and a very well-known leader of cancer fundraising here in town is not doing well at the moment. But I am happy you are seeing improvement in the cases in your practice. May we learn more and do more to change this dreadful disease and its treatment.

Judy,I understand exactly what you are talking about. My first experience with that came early for me. The wife of a fellow student who was only 23 yrs. old when she was diagnosed with just such a cancer. Way before any useful mammograms were being done. Vicious, incredibly rapid, aggressive and relentless. We were still in that invincible, invulnerable, indestructible stage of our lives when such as that just didn't happen. She was so beautiful, vivacious, alive. We had no idea such a thing could happen. Not to us, youngsters who were going to go out and conquer cancer. Next was the wife of a fraternity brother, she was 21 and just married, who was found to have a metastatic cancer, to her brain, which turned out to be a melanoma. They never found the primary lesion. She was a gorgeous Latina girl who used to flirt a bit and make me blush telling me I looked like Michael Caine (I don't , I didn't). I still can't see any sense in her death. Thing is, these things still happen, but things are some better. One of my patients survived just such a breast cancer, discovered at age 26 after she had already survived Hodgkin's lymphoma. Mammography (which her insurance company balked at covering), ordered because of a little lump noted on her routine BC pill checkup was unmistakable. The surgeon I mentioned earlier operated, because of the type, a simple mastectomy was required, but she still looks great at age 51 with her implant. Things have definitely improved over the $0 yrs. that I've been practicing. We still have a long way to go, but I'm hopeful.
