En Nombre del Amor, December 17, 2009

Rafael tells Camila that it’s hard for him to look at her as a friend and business associate, so he’d rather not do it anymore. He’s sad that what she feels for him isn’t strong enough to fight all the obstacles in their way and thinks that if she loved him like he loves her, she wouldn’t leave.

Romina is in her new house and thinks to herself that she has everything except Emiliano—she’d trade all of this for just a little of his love.

Emiliano asks Padre Juan Cristobal about Gabriel.

Paloma arrives at Gabe’s place for her art class (he’s standing on his head, against a wall).

Crazylota wears her lace shawl while cutting and pasting letters into a note that accuses Natalia and her (alleged) lover, Cris, of killing Alonso. She includes the pictures she took of Nat and Cris together.

Cris assures Emil that he doesn’t have to worry—Gabriel needs to share his artistic legacy before . . . before leaving, so his interest in Paloma is strictly professional.

We finally get a Gabriel scene without his theme music playing—all the theme songs are just so tired now, IMO. Anyway, Sandra shows up and asks if she can join the art class, but Gabe says no because Pal is at a higher level and he has an agreement with his dad that she advance as quickly as possible; she requires all his attention. Pal tries to protest but he puts his foot down because he’s the one who makes the rules. But he says that Sandra can come to one of his other classes.

Liliana talks with her boyfriend (whose name I forgot) about her graduation. German butts in and asks who Pal is going with--would she go with him? Lili’s boyfriend tells him to ask Pal himself and leave Lili alone or else.

Joel tells Monica about his older brother Victor, who had Down’s syndrome, and how he was loved and accepted by everyone. Monica asks him to help her completely integrate (is that the right word?) her son into her life and the world at large.

Gabe gets annoyed with Paloma for not concentrating enough, she’s got to get these techniques down ASAP. She doesn’t understand what’s the big hurry. He replies that time doesn’t stop, and we can’t waste it—I know what I’m saying.

Out in the street, Rafa runs into Luz, the lady he met at the convention. She offers to listen to his tale of woe re: Camila.

In Houston, Orlando shops for baby stuff.

German is waiting for Pal outside her house when she walks up muttering to herself about Gabriel, just in case we viewers haven’t gotten the hint yet that she doesn’t like him. The way they keep hammering us with this makes me think Pal will eventually grow fond of Gabe, a la “When Harry Met Sally.” Anyhoo, German asks if he can be her date for graduation but she declines, because of his relationship with Lili. Romina sees them talking and calls him after Pal goes inside. He gloats about wanting Pal and laughs at Romi when she doesn’t believe him.

Carlota agrees that Rufi can stay, but she’s only doing it for Pal, so that when she leaves town, she’ll remember how much Carlota loved her.

Cris comes to see Natalia. Yvonne calls Dr. B. to ask that he recommend something to calm Nat down; he says he’ll come to the house himself to see her.

Pal and Rufi celebrate in the kitchen. Rufi comments that only God could separate them, but Pal hopes not even him, because she already told him that she couldn’t take one more death (sounds like an anvil to me). Pal promises Felipa, who has been in the background looking sad all this time, that she’ll get Padre Cris to help her find a job.

Camila and Monica walk with Joel and they decide to leave the next day. Joel then starts talking about his brother and Monica’s son but Camila can’t hear him because her theme music drowns him out.

Luz dispenses advice to Rafa: pain is inevitable, but suffering is a choice. You have to ask yourself, what are you going to do with that pain? Are you going to suffer the rest of your life? Better to accept that pain and decide to move forward. Don’t look back, nothing is forever. Rafa doesn’t know if he can, but Luz encourages him to try.

Pal is on the phone with Liliana discussing German—Lili says she has no problem if Pal wants to go with him. But Pal isn’t interested in him and doesn’t want to go out with a friend’s ex because she learned her lesson with Romi and Emil. Lili admits that it would have affected/hurt her if Pal had gone with Germy.

Emiliano throws a pity party with flashbacks to various encounters with Pal, then envisions Pal and Gabriel having good times together. Romi enters and informs him the house is ready and they move tomorrow. Emil decides to go to bed—if it were up to him he’d just dedicate himself to his job and sleep, that’s it. For some reason he gives her a kiss on the forehead before heading upstairs.

Joel tells Rafa about Cami’s decision to leave the convention, and is he going to do anything to stop her?

Dr. B. checks Natalia and says her blood pressure is low; Cris counsels her to try to relax. The phone rings and Cris takes the call—it’s the police and they want them to come identify a body the next morning. Nat cries that it can’t be Alonso.

Rafa asks Camila if he can do anything to prevent her leaving. No, she answers. He asks for one last hug and they embrace, both crying. Luz sees this from afar and looks sympathetic.

Natalia, Yvonne and Cris are in a room that seems too dark for anyone to properly identify a body, but Natalia recognizes Alonso immediately and starts sobbing.

Carlota is still in bed when Rufi brings her tea. Rufi asks about her visit to the doctor, claiming that she’s asking out of worry, she notices Carlota’s been a little pensive. Carlota says she is fine and asks for the newspaper. She thinks to herself, “patience, patience. Is it known already that you’re dead, Alonso?” She flashes back to pushing Alonso in front of the truck. “You thought that I would be in your place, but now the one who’s really cold is you. You don’t know how useful you are going to be to me that way.”

Natalia continues sobbing. The police say that it appears to be an accident, that Alonso was run over outside Pachuca, but they haven’t been able to locate any witnesses. Nat can’t believe it that he’s dead too—first Inaki, now Alonso.

Carlota doesn’t find the news she’s looking for. She has to investigate what Alonso said to her—it could be very dangerous for her. She wonders who Alonso might have told about the will.

Joel asks Rafa if he’ll go back to Diana but he says no, of course not. He fell in love with Camila, and it was his turn to lose. Now he feels dry and withered up inside.

As they drive home, Monica asks why Cami doesn’t go back and tell Rafa she loves him if it hurts so much to leave. Cami replies that she realized love isn’t everything. Monica disagrees, she thinks that love makes miracles happen. Cami recounts how that didn’t happen with Samuel—she loved him deeply but was unhappy with him. Monica suggests that was because Sam didn’t love her, but she thinks Rafa does. Cami thinks maybe Rafa just came into her life to show her that she could love again. She loves Orlando, but in a different way from Rafa.

Orly continues his shopping spree, this time looking for a ring for Cami.

Nat, Cris and Yvonne walk down the hall with Nat asking why did this have to happen, what was Alonso doing in Pachuca? She thinks she should go back and look again, because maybe she made a mistake and it’s not really Alonso, and runs back to the body. Cris tries to console her and pull her away; he says that the body is Alonso, he recognized him. Nat doesn’t want to accept it.

Emil tells Romi he can’t take time off from work to move her stuff to the new place that morning; he suggests they use the company’s truck and maybe a couple guys can help her move everything. She insists that she’s in a hurry and is dying to leave her mom’s house, but Emil isn’t having it and leaves. Romi takes out the photo of her and Pal as kids and looks at it.

Cris talks with Nat about how he understands her pain, because of Macarena. Nat cries that it’s not fair, because Alonso came back so they could start over. That’s how it was for Cris and Mac too, they were just about to begin a new life together when she died. He thinks in time Nat will be able to understand things. She asks if he has made sense of Macarena’s death yet?

At school, Lili and Pal talk about continuing their friendship after graduation and promise to be friends forever. When Pal gets called away by one of the nuns, Lili looks up a number on Pal’s phone and types it into her own, which Sandra sees. Pal returns with the news that the mother superior wants her to give a speech at graduation, but she’s not happy about it because Mac and Emil won’t be there to share it with her. Pal heads back to class while Lili ducks into the bathroom.

Lili calls Emil (who’s in a meeting with a client) to warn him that German is after Pal. After she hangs up, Sandra confronts her: did you do that for Paloma, or for yourself? Could it be that you’re dying of jealousy? It wouldn’t be fair if you were playing with my cousin like that.

Pal sits in class listening to classmates talk about their dates and looks sad.

Luz runs into Rafa and Joel at the convention and asks Rafa for his factory’s contact info—she likes their designs and wants to take them abroad. While Joel goes off to chat with someone, she asks what Rafa’s plans are. He was going to rest a bit but she invites him to come with her—she doesn’t say where but that it will be such a good time it’ll even get rid of his tiredness, or something along those lines.

On his way out, Emil ltells Angelica that he’s leaving to find German, blah blah blah. Gabriel just happens to be walking by as Emil exits the building so he stops Gabe and says they have to talk about Pal. Dun Dun DUN!

Yikes. Is anybody keeping a body count on this one? Just keeping my fingers crossed that Rufi isn't the next to go. Thanks for the recap, Deb. Loved your remarks about the loud theme music and the tiresomeness of it at this point.

Thanks, Debbie, for the great recap. I especially loved your saying "Camila can’t hear him because her theme music drowns him out." I've come to HATE all the theme music. I wish there were a way to just cut out the music but leave the dialogue.

JudyB, I too am amazed at the body count and rather afraid that Rufi may be next. I'm relatively new to TNs, but I can't think of any other that has killed off so many sympathetic characters. Are they aiming for a Guinness Book of World Records entry?

What the heck is that shawl that Carloca wears? The way she used to caress it, it must have something to do with Padre Juan. It must give her some kind of evil superpowers.

~Caborita

Emiliano needs to chill. He is really being ridiculous running around town, challenging any man who even dares to look at Paloma.

Any Sorti watchers notice that Lili's boyfriend is Gabriel (the kid run over by a truck) in Sorti? I had noticed the other evening, but wasn't sure until last night. The actor doesn't have a lot of charisma. He's pretty forgettable in both roles, so far at least.

Caborita are u serious That actor is sooooooooo ADORABLE hes so cute light skinned black hair hes a cuttie and more so in Sorti.

Anon 11:43- He is very cute. He's just not making much of an impression. As long as he's been hanging around in ENDA, and we can't even remember his name. They did give him more to say last night, and it made him seem like a really great guy. But the fact that when he first appeared in Sorti, no one made the connection that he's also in ENDA, means that he was not very memorable from his first few scenes in ENDA. Hopefully, his role in both shows will grow and improve because he is a cutie and offers a nice, young galan candidate for Lili and Paula (Sorti).

To Viewer from Texas--I had to delete your post, because it contained a spoiler. (But I agree that the music is the worst when Gabriel shows up!)

I noticed it was the same actor, too, he's not to my taste at all, unattractive as far as I'm concerned. But I used to think the same about German and now that's changed, so maybe it also depends on the character and acting.

Natalia's crying seemed fake to me, especially at first. It looked like Ivonne was trying not to laugh.

Really really really hope there is no anvil going to fall on Rufi, she has the answer to so many questions.

Yeah, they do overdo the theme songs, it almost seemed like last night they were changing characters too fast to keep up!

Sorry Anon 12:47 ITA with Vivi he doesn't do anything for me as a actor maybe that's why Liliana can't forget German.

Vivi i noticed that he was the same actor on ENDA when he showed up on Sorti. He's just not memorable that's all his acting seems wooden.

His name is Eric on ENDA.

His cousin needs to chill out though, yeah Liliana was wrong for checking Paloma's cell phone without permission but where does Sandra get off with keeping tabs on Liliana.

As for the body count for La Loca she has killed, Inaki, Mac, Arcadia, Alonso and Paloma's Yorkie puppy. Not to mentioned the countless birds Mac owned.

Suspect that she may have even
killed her own father.

Indirectly responsible for the deaths of Javier and Sagario, when she was torturing and abusing little Paloma.Who then called her parents to come home she was afraid. Cut off their conversation and frighten Sagario convinced Javier to drive home that very night.

Let's include how she killed the relationship and possible family that Mac and Cris would have enjoyed because of her jealousy and envious hatred for her sister.

We should all hope and pray for Rufi.

I hope La Loca does not find the letter that Arcadia wrote.

His name is Eric. I noticed right away when I saw him on Sorti that it was the same actor, but both roles seem to be nondescript backgroundy guys so far...I think he's okay. To me he's more the type I'd choose in real life...not flashy, solid and nice.

Why is Gabriel's (annoying) theme music so spunky, when he is so intense and cryptic? I still think he must have some disease.

Great recap, Debbie, especially the snark. I for one would love for Paloma to start dating every guy she can find just to torch Emiliano...and also to get a grip and discover she can spend a few hours with a guy without falling in love with him and turning it all into another tragedy.

Looks like RoMEna is starting to grasp that her manipulation and schemes are not giving her what she thinks she needs most of all Emiliano's love.

Sorry i just can't feel sympathetic at all for her because she lied and plotted to get what she desires.

Plus for her still to be upset that German was talking to Paloma tells me this girl really needs to see a therapist.

For sure, but not Ange - although maybe many therapists can help other people but not themselves.

I can't imagine a fate bad enough to equal CarLoca's crimes - they better come up with something good!

Angelica,RoMEna and Camila need to get the group rate because all three are a mess.

When Emiliano was dreaming about Paloma, the last scene, where she is wearing an ugly long skirt and they kiss on the bench in the park - did that really happen or was that his dream? Looks like Paloma has her after make over hair, so it must have been after the wedding. Did they kiss after he got married?

And Debbie, wonderful recap, as always.

maria

Emiliano was just day-dreaming. Mostly he was envisioning horrifying scenarios of Paloma kissing Gabriel, gasp. I don't know why he didn't put her in better clothes in his fantasies.

Debbie, wonderful recap. Gracias.

Lili is such a great character, intelligent and spunky. She deserves to be first and foremost in someone's life, certainly not third as she is now with Germ. Still, I was buoyed by your theory Lili and Germ may very well become Harry and Sally. I'm rooting for it.

I know Orlando seems to say and do the wrong things constantly. Still, I like him. Shopping for baby clothes and a ring and seeming to enjoy both! A basically good man - hope he ends up with Angie...

Judy and Juanita, I agree that the body count is way too high (with how many more episodes left?), but fate keeps intervening with all too convenient plot twists that in no way can be related to Carlota.

Anon, we've been speculating as to whether or not Carlota killed her father - it's a question I hope is answered before this ends. Who knows what other grisly secrets she's buried.

Diana

Julia, not only he put her in ugly clothes, but also her granny pants were looking through that skirt.

What's up with this guy?

maria

Maria - awhile back someone said Real Del Monte is a kinky place. Guess so.

Seriously, visible granny pants? Glad I missed that. Maybe his mind just can't handle the possibility of her looking any better than her worst if she's with Gabriel.

Although, EVERYONE keeps telling him that Gabriel is just her art teacher. Please get an industrial-strength grip, Emo. Preventing Paloma from ever talking to any men would just make you a villain.

I'm hoping we also find out the story behind Carlota's lace scarf, along with whether she killed her father.

Diana do you remember the wedding scene Mac was having on her death bed. Javier and Sagario and the older guy who plays Hernan on Sorti i believe was their as their father.

I hope so too because the way Carloca was so sure about the correct dosage to use to only drug Cris not kill him. Showed me she had a lot of practice.

Now it seems like if she can't have Cris she's making sur no one else can have him.

It seem at the time she killed Alonso both Cris and Natalia have alibi's so i want to see how are they going to pull this off.

Diana--I was actually thinking that Pal hating Gabe was like "When Harry Met Sally" (I'll clarify that in the recap), but you're right that it applies to Lili and German too (the way she's mad at him but still loves him). German's going to have to clean up his act, though--he's been pretty sleazy lately.

Also, a belated thank you to Maggie, Julia and Gloria for your hilarious recaps this week!

Diana - I still like Orlando, too. He's kind of like a big awkward puppy - causes trouble without knowing it and gets all excited about stuff in a kind of innocent way.

Also there's no way i want Lilana to wind up German he needs to be with RoMEna they are both selfish and two of a kind.

Liliana deserves so much better than someone as sleazy and untruthful as German is.

Ivy speaking of dogs when i see Rafael i'm reminded of one those dogs with big jowls.

Debbie – thank you again for a wonderful recap. It clarified a lot of things for me because last night the captions, which had started working again for a few days, were all messed up. Interestingly, at times they were the captions from the evening news. That made for quite a viewing experience.

Caborita – I too was contemplating that lace shawl thing last night. Is it maybe some piece of a bride’s getup that she never got to wear?

Julia – I’m wondering if Gabriel is at death’s door too. If so, it’s probably one of those telenovela illnesses where you look great and do fine for an extended period, then suddenly croak, but not without a hospital scene with beeping monitors and a few sad last words.

Ivy – I loved your description of Orlando. Right on the money! And I agree about the Natalia actress’s acting. I’ve found her rather vague all throughout our show, but I really thought she didn’t cut it in her big weepy scenes last night.

Whatever Gabriel's issue is, it seems to give him amazing night vision. How many artists would really work in near-darkness with only a little spotlight or candle?

I need to reinforce my beanie for the art-lesson scenes. It looked like the only instruction he gave Paloma was to hold her brush closer to the bristles. That thing she was painting didn't appear to have any special technique going on...it looked more like a paint-by-numbers picture.

Anon- LOL!! About Rafa, I see what you mean.

Thanks for the recap Debbie. I missed a lot of the episode...wrapping gifts and didn't catch much.

Do you think Gabriel might have a terminal illness? Why would Cam goes all the way to the convention just to deny her heart of true love?

Debbie, Thanks a bunch for the descriptive recap. I miss being able to watch every night but you and the other recappers really help me to visualize what has happened. I enjoy too the humor of this group of watchers who are sick to the teeth with the same things that were driving me nutz before I left NewMex. Carlota is so repulsive, it must be great acting by this actress whom I don't remember seeing ever before but she makes you forget that she is actually quite pretty. But pretty is as pretty does as Mom used to say. I feel bad for PadCris. He is adorable but has had problems getting or keeping worthy lovers in past TNs.

Sabastian Zurita (Emiliano) is in the new Corazon Salvaje with Yañez and a lot of other actors we see over and over. Zurita has really hit the big time fast for such a young guy. I do enjoy his acting in this ENDA even though he is bugging me to death with this unworthy jealousy of the Pale one.
