Oh and if I knew Olga, I'd bet she'd be a hero for me too!!!

You would love her, Kris. She had three children and her husband was killed in an auto accident on his way home. So she went to work to support the family and the lawyer she was working for fell in love with her and they married. When she was 8 months pregnant with their first child, she came home to find him dead in a chair from a stroke. Went into premature labor and delivered the baby while grieving. A real telenovela. Went back to school, got her Masters in Education and taught school untile retirement, raising a beautiful family of four, who all adore her.

This lady, who has every reason to feel like a victim, is always in awe of her blessings, always thrilled with life. Simply incredible. And a wicked sense of humor too!

At her 90th birthday party, she was whisking around in high heels for hours, while the rest of us were heading for the nearest chair. Amazing. I'm not half the woman she is. But love her to death.

Wow, amazing story...I can't imagine...yep sounds like my kind of people!!

Kris, take your time. The first ten minutes should be a breeze since it consists mainly of glimpses of our various couples bonding in their own peculiar ways as apparently time passes. I couldn't help but think,"Why don't I have more scenes like this?"

Judy, too bad Olga can't meet my patient, a 92 year old bishop who regularly renews his prescription for Viagra even though his wife divorced him last year. He always comes in dressed to the nines, suit, starched white shirt, tie, freshly shined shoes and a very snappy Homburg that I've offered to wrestle him for. He preached his last sermon two years ago. He's moving a little slower than he once did, but still has a twinkle in his eye.

What's wrong with Estrella? Her faints seem a little more serious than your basic embarrazada swoon, and besides , Aldo promised Mao, no unprotected sex. Hmmm.

Happy New Year to you, and all my good amiguchis here at Club Gancho.

Carlos

Hmmm..my first thought was that if the bishop were really healthy, he wouldn't need Viagra. But I understand a multitude of folks, younger men with no apparent heart problems, are "on the pill" so I guess he's in good company. Now the real question: why the divorce? Was she tired of being a dart board?

Okay. Minding my own business, he sounds like an interesting patient. Olga's health did take a turn for the worse after age 93 and she can no longer come to class, but she's still counting her blessings and I love visiting her. She still keeps up on current events, reads voraciously, takes a moderate walk daily and is always ready to fix you a cup of tea and serve you cookies when you drop by for a chat. But a Viagra-powered Bishop might be too much.

Dr.Carlos, glad you brought up the fainting though. I'm not ready for another hospital manufactured crisis here, but looks like that's where we're headed. Oh my. And really, outside of telenovelas, who faints when they're pregnant, anyhow!? No way.

One of the things that looks as if it should be fun is that both Mau and Furia agreed to come to Xime's party. All of a sudden I'm reminded of LFMB, when Lety had to keep switching back and forth between herself and Aurora. I hope Mau comes up with some quick release on that mask. At least he won't have to keep makeup on and taking it off!

Keep putting makeup on and taking it off.

Even without the recap I can tell I've missed an excellent episode. I'll have to keep reminding myself that all this fun is waiting on my DVR as I drag myself to the airport on Saturday.

Something's wrong with Estrella?! Oh noes!!

My sister fainted while she was pregnant, more than once. One time was on the sidewalk while she was out shopping, and she got taken to the hospital in an ambulance. The nurses wouldn't let her leave by herself, they wanted a family member to come pick her up. Her husband was out of town and her MIL and SIL, both nurses, wouldn't answer phone calls coming from the hospital number because they thought someone was trying to get them to work an extra shift. I think she eventually found a friend who would pick her up.

Happy birthday, Judy! I know it was yesterday but I didn't get to a computer. I hope it was lovely.

Judy, your friend Olga sounds awesome. What a woman!

I was also wondering how in the heck Mau is going to pull of the Mau/Furia charade. Should be fun.

I assumed Estrella was embarazada. I was taught that no birth control method is 100% effective, but she did look awfully pale... Now I'm worried.

Feliz Año Nuevo a todos!!!!

Hombre, tienes razón. Do you think that Mao actually has enough snap to pull this off? ...Ni yo tampoco.

Julia, I'm still laughing about the folks not answering hospital calls. I think I've seen that sort of thing on the Dr. level as well. When our hospital opened, I was the ER chairman (at he time I was the youngest). I ended up covering so many nights when the backup could not be reached by phone. Hmmm.

How about Rolu's brother? I think I know him.

Carlos

OK, we're staying home for the evening in the company of TMBDITW and the little asesino that lives here, Jack. At the moment I'm watching Fri's Gancho. Absolutely intoxicating smells are emanating from the kitchen. The Lovely Linda is preparing a late dinner. I've been informed that we're having beef tenderloin with cognac mustard cream sauce, spinach, and garlic mashed potatoes. We're having a Zin my profa gave us for Christmas. We almost always end up talking food here, why not the last day of the year?

Tomorrow we're having corned beef, cabbage, and black-eyed peas. Trite, but safe. After tonight, I'm betting we'll be drinking iced-tea tomorrow.

¡Prospero Nuevo Año a todos!

Carlos

Hah! I loved that story too-- about the nurses not answering the phone, I mean. Sorry about the docs not answering the phone for you, Carlos.

Also, very sorry your sister fainted during pregnancy, Julia. Although I felt fatigue the first three months, I never had nausea and from the fourth month on I felt better than I ever had at any other time of my life. If I could somehow arrange it I'd be six months pregnant eternally!

Now back to you Carlos... I'm totally ready for the lovely Linda to adopt me. Never mind that I'm older than she is. I'll be fixing tenderloin for my sons' birthday in January but I'll be doing that garlicky chimichurri sauce (he loathes mustard, alas). And yes, sour cream mashed potatoes, green beans with bacon and a crusty apple pie. All bad for my husband but he'll eat it anyway. In the meantime though, we've pulled up the Pritikin reins and are living lean and mean after the Christmas blowout.

Hi Sylvia and hi anyone else checking in...Happy New Year to all...may it bring blessings galore, and above all, no fainting and no unwanted pregnancies.
