En Nombre del Amor, January 28, 2010--Orlando Is a Weasel

Repeat of Carlota lying to Eugenio that Cris put the moves on her and telling him not to trust Cris, and Eugenio not believing her. Rafael tells Camila that Orlando blackmailed him into staying away from her in exchange for not revealing Diana’s sordid past to Emiliano.

Dr. B. and Rufi discuss Carlota inviting him over for dinner. He thought she’d freak out about him taking Paloma away. Rufi thought so too but apparently Carlota wants to set the date so she can thank him for taking Pal to the capital. Unfortunately, this doesn't seem to alarm them in the least. Dr. B. asks Rufi if she talked to Pal about Inaki’s ring--Rufi asked her to get it appraised again and thinks Pal will take it to Mexico City with her and do it there. What a surprise she’ll get, but at least she’ll be far away, so the Purple One won’t find out about it. Which means that now that Rufi has said that, Carlota will surely find out she has the fake ring and Pal has the real one.

Romina asks Emiliano to help her look for her mom.

Rafa tells Cami that he did what he did for Emil, who was going through a rough time, and he didn’t want to run the risk that Orly would carry out his threat. Cami doesn’t believe that Orly is like that. Rafa says, ask Orly for yourself.

Angelica and Pal commiserate over the loves of their lives being out of their reach. Ange feels terrible being at this wedding--it must be like what Pal felt when Emil married Romi. Pal wants to keep being friends with Ange once she gets out of Real del Dodge. Ange is going to take off too, as soon as Orly gets back from his honeymoon. Pal says when she gets to the city, she’ll give Ange her new contact info, but she doesn’t want her to give it to anyone else, especially not Emil. Pal looks at Emil talking with Anamar and notes that he found consolation for his ruined love affairs real fast.

Camila returns to her room saying “no puede ser” and wondering what kind of man she’s marrying if this is true. Emil and Romi come in, and after demanding to know where Cami was, Romi actually looks genuinely concerned when she sees that her mother was crying. Cami asks to be left alone.

Montage of Cami and Rafa saying goodbye to each other and during happier times.

Emil and Gabriel run into each other. Gabe politely inquires about the baby and then is about to leave but Emil stops him--he wants to tell him that soon his situation will be settled and he’s going to fight for Paloma. Gabe informs Emil that in the future maybe she won’t be with either one of them, since she’s leaving for Mexico City.

Romi and Anamar run into each other--catfight part 2. Anamar tells her that Emil is her husband only on paper, and she’s here to renew the relationship she and Emil had in Monterrey, or to end it forever.

Cami asks Orlando if it’s true that he demanded that Rafa leave her in exchange for his silence re: Diana. He answers that Diana and Rafa didn’t want Emil to know about Orly being his father, but he couldn’t give up his son. Then he plays the “I was a victim too” card and claims that he wasn’t going to speak badly of Di to Emil. The only thing he wanted was for Emil to know he was his father. Anyway, if Rafa left, it’s because that was his decision, not mine. He then says if she wants to cancel the wedding over this issue, just say so.

Rafa is sitting in the park by himself when he’s joined by Luz and Xochitl. She knows he’s upset about Cami’s wedding. She thinks he was correct in telling Cami the truth about Orly. He asks her to forgive him--he doesn’t want to hurt her. She admits that it hurts a lot, but that’s life and it’s just a question of waiting. She realizes that Rafa is there waiting for Cami’s answer.

Cami thinks she judged Orly too quickly; she sees that he loves Emil so much that he didn’t want to hurt him by telling him about how awful his mom is. Orly repeats what he said earlier about it being Rafa’s choice to leave. But he leaves it up to her to decide if they’re going to marry or not.

Luz tells Rafa that she wants him to be happy--if Cami makes you happy, face the whole world for her.

Ines and her new hubby have just gotten married. Outside the church, Carlota congratulates her--who would have thought that at your age you were going to get married? Ines suggests that it could happen to Carlota too, but the Purple One claims that she doesn’t need a man to be happy, presumably because making everyone miserable and killing whoever gets in her way keeps her plenty happy. After she leaves, the witch parade continues with the appearance of Diana, who says that the weddings of older women are a bit ridiculous. Ines comments about Samuel not being there, so Diana blabs on about how busy and important he is.

Scenes of Orlando and Camila getting married (and Angelica looking distraught), signing the certificate, etc. He’s going to make her the happiest woman in the world, blah blah blah. Not sure how he’s going to accomplish that once she finds out about Houston, but whatever.

Padre Benito is on the phone with the high-ranking church guy, informing him that they will know Cris’s future on Monday. The church guy had to expel Cris because the parishioners’ faith is put at risk when a priest doesn’t conduct himself properly, but he believes Cris is innocent.

Miriam gets a call from Dario, who says he’s going to find her, and she’s going to pay. Maybe she has forgotten what happened the last time she wanted to accuse him of plagiarism. She tries to tell herself that she’s not afraid of him.

German arrives at Cami’s and starts macking on Romi. A couple of people walk by, including Emil, but G and R sneak off to the bathroom without being seen. Dr. B. comes looking for the bathroom, but it’s locked so he and Emil have a chat instead. Emil asks if DNA results can be wrong; he wants to take another test without anyone knowing. Dr. B. remembers his conversation with Camila about how she thought Germy might be the father. Dr. B. agrees to help him and do a test the next day. After they go off to get a drink, Romi and Germy exit the bathroom adjusting their clothes.

Emil asks Pal why she didn’t tell him her plans to leave town and why does Gabe know. She replies that Gabe is a part of her life, and he (Emil) isn’t, so how do you like them apples. And if she were in love with Gabe, she has a right to be, no? Romi sees them talking and can’t stand that they’re together. Anyway, it’s time to toss the bouquet. Paloma catches it, whoop-de-doo. Emil and Gabe smile at her.

Rafa is still at the park. He thinks he’s an idiot but Luz congratulates him on taking risks and tries to cheer him up. She says he has brought so much to her life that she loves being with him. She suggests that now they can begin their own story.

Carlota is sitting in her study doing nothing when Rufi comes in and tells her that Pal is outside talking to Gabe. La Loca is annoyed and wants to know what Gabe’s intentions are. Rufi doesn’t think he plans to pursue Pal. She then informs Carlota that Dr. B. accepted her invitation--how about tomorrow at noon? At first this catches Carlota off guard, but then she says, the sooner the better--she’ll even go buy the fish herself.

Paloma gives Gabe a list of people to invite to her birthday party. He wants her to be happy that day and she promises to try. She’s dreamed so much about turning 18 that sometimes she can’t believe it’s going to happen (neither can I). She feels nostalgic about leaving both the happy and sad memories behind, the ones that made her who she is. Gabe notes that it hurts to let go of everything, it’s the hardest thing to do.

Emiliano visits the baby and promises he won’t abandon him even if it turns out he’s not his biological son and he divorces Romi.

Cami is packing for her honeymoon when Romi comes in to say goodbye. They hug and say they love each other. Romi comments that now she knows how hard marriage is, how awful it feels when your partner doesn’t love you as much as you love him. Cami inquires about Anamar but Romi doesn’t want to discuss it. Anyway, have a nice time, but come back soon to help me with the baby.

Orly visits Cris, who’s down in the dumps about his chances for being found innocent. As we’ve come to expect, Orly would rather think that everything’s going to be fine. He says he’ll keep tabs on Cris’s case while he’s gone, but Cris tells him not to worry--besides, you have to dedicate yourself to Cami.

Angelica cries to Miriam over losing Orlando for what she thinks is forever, but really, it’s probably only for 30 episodes or so.

Scenes of Cami and Orly enjoying themselves at the Mayan Riviera.

Emil is at the hospital to take his DNA test. He’s surprised when Dr. B. tells him about his upcoming lunch date at the House of Horrors. The doc says he’ll be taking Pal to Mexico City after her birthday, so Emil asks if he’ll give him the address there. Dr. B. just smiles.

Carlota buys more belladonna--she tells the lady to give her the same amount that she bought last time. She thinks to herself that the doctor can’t complain, as his death isn’t going to be so painful.

Tomorrow: Carlota cooks up another batch of her witches’ brew and adds it to Dr. B.’s coffee.

Thanks for that fantatic recap and appropriate title Debbie. :) That marriage won't last long once Cami finds out about Houston.

I know a lot of folks here get on Luz for being immature, but that was some of the most mature behavior I've ever seen. She had her cry in private, she comforted Rafi and acknowledged his pain, she was willing to let him go, she was honest about her own hurt feelings, and then she didn't hold a grudge and was willing to look forward. I think they've got a lot of personal growth in store for this character- unrequited love, the love of a child, and a complete change in the lifestyle she has been used to.

I hate to say this, but I think Dr. B's days are numbered-specifically to 1 day. Too many important game changing things now sit on his shoulders: the picture with the letter; the DNA test results he is supposed to give to Emo tomorrow after his lunch with Carloca; and taking Pal to D.F. after her b-day in just a few days. I really hope I'm wrong, because I really like him.

Thanks Debbie.Funny ecap.Especially loved your description of Carlota at Ines' wedding.
Speaking of which: Poor Ines, can no one just be happy for her without putting in some jabs. But last laugh is on them. She looked beautiful and very happy. Diana - Total Skank.

As for mini-me-Skank,or shall we call her Skank#2, Romeme is just beyond comprehension. She might have had a glimmer of concern for her mother, but the rest of the time... The whole "let's get a quickie in the bathroom" scene...and then she gets all crazy because Emi is talking to Pal and she lays into Anamar. She is the ultimate spoiled brat.

Of course, Emi is acting not much better. His "ownership" of Pal bothers me somewhat. Has she no say in who she sees or falls for? I guess the apple doesn't fall far from the Orly tree. Almost as if he couldn't believe that Pal wouldn't just be pining away her life because he's not in it.But he's supposed to be our hero...I'd take Gabe any day.

As for the "tree", Orlando just became a total jerk in my book. What he pulled with Cami was just the pits. I was actually surprised that she went through with the wedding. Denial much?

Our dear Purpleness, one minute in church, the next, at home plotting your next murder. Just another day in the life. They CANNOT murder Dr. B. Make something else happen to keep Pal around if needed. Or they could let them go to Mexico and do one of those " a few months later" and find something to bring them back. anything but bump him off too.

I agree Debbie, how come noone ever finds La Loca strange when she suddenly changes opinions or behavior. Except Eugenius, who I missed terribly in this episode .

Hopefully the trial wraps up Monday with good results. They better keep Eugenius around when it's over.

Some how i don't believe that honeymoon will be long and joyful, especially once he tells her about the move for two years to Houston.

I was surprised at how aware Luz was of what Rafael was feeling who knew there was more depth to her. After giving us the impression that she scared of emotional attachments and it's one of the reason why she always moving and traveling.

I think she would bring a lot to a relationship with Eugenio and help him overcome the eventual loss of Gabriel.

I don't see her and Rafael making a go with their relationship, not by the way Rafael is acting.

RoMEna never fails to amazed me, i'm glad Anamar told her the reason why she's there in RDM.

Why is Paloma wearing a dress from Lane Bryant or a maternity dress, she looked like she was pregnant.

Please someone or something save Dr.B.

La Loca is so focus on keeping Paloma by her for the inheritance,if she does kill Dr.B she is going to be suspected.

Another batch of witches brew, that's too funny Debbie. I hope Rodolfo has a night shift in the hospital on Sunday night and he is going to be saved. Thank you for the recap.

Poor Ines. She should have kicked out all those witches who come and spoil her day. But at least one happy bride.

Great recap, Debbie. I loved "the witch parade continues". ROFL.

When Luz came along with Xochi and told the child to go and play and proceeded to turn her back, I thought surely someone (maybe the pervert) would snatch her, especially in a park. She's not very cautious. But then this is a novela.

Do you think Ange would be happy with Orly???

Ann-NYC

Terrific recap Debbie. I too was astonished at how completely dense Rufi and our beloved Dr. B were about the invite into Murder Mansion. Someone please have a clue and save our Dr. B.

Vivi...I didn' even consider the fact that Emiliano would not be getting those results if Dr. B is offed. Darn. ITA about the maturity Luz showed toward Rafa. I still hope Rafa and Cami hook up because they definately have the right chemistry and that is what keeps those fires a burnin.

Is anyone else creeped at how Angelica bugs her eyes out when she is upset? We know she isn't violent but man oh man it is still creepy.

Down with Orly!!! It is not surprising to me that Camilia CHOSE to marry him..she is after all the QUEEN of denial. Look how she let Slimy Sam and RoMEANa snow her over and over througout the years. She has a kind heart and want to believe the best in people. She is basically blinded like all of the others in this tiny twisted town.

Debbie, ITA with everyone who loved the title. Fantastic recap. You always hit the highs and lows in vivid detail. Outstanding.

I really did not think Camila would go through with the ceremony. How wrong I was. It was shrewd (and underhanded I thought) of Orlando to put all the onus as to whether or not to proceed solely with Camila and make it her decision. He didn't really plead or argue, but clearly wasn't honest. Blech.

I shook my head in sad agreement that "Unfortunately, this doesn't seem to alarm them in the least". As we now know Dr. B. will have the paternity results, he is probably doomed. I really wouldn't be able to watch another painful and drawn out death similar to what Inaki suffered but am still horrified that "She thinks to herself that the doctor can’t complain, as his death isn’t going to be so painful." Ack.

I thought the tide was turning folks!? Everyone gathers at Carlota's to celebrate yet another happy occasion (that will never come to pass). Will no suspicion be raised when yet another person suffers a heart attack??? I wish Eugenio was going to be there as I don't think she'd risk doing anything with him there. I think he would be the only person to thwart her plan. Can we get him a last minute invitation?

Diana

My opinion of Orly changed when Camila told him she needed to ask him something and he thought to himself "does she know about Houston". What a selfish creep.

Thanks for the recap Debbie.

Somehow I think that if Dr. B dies at Misery Manor, the Purple Pervert is finished because Eugenio will connect the dots between all the deaths in her world. This could be the turning point in her destiny in this TN. I've got all my fingers and toes crossed.

Dona Gringuita

Great recap. I liked the line about getting out of Real del Dodge.

Poor Inés. With friends like that, who needs enemies? Can't anyone just say something gracious to her on her long-hoped-for wedding day? Oh well, she was happy enough to not care how nasty they were.

Orly is slime and better enjoy his marriage while it lasts. I think Ange might actually be happy with him, though...maybe after this he'll learn a few lessons about honesty and manipulation, and I don't think she cares where they live; she's a writer and doesn't have family around anyway.

Carlota is something else, still riding her high horse..."He can't complain; he won't suffer." Yes, all the best hostesses kill their dinner guests quickly and painlessly. What more could a person want? I really hope she doesn't succeed, though.

Okay, forget someone dropping the picture and breaking the glass. Can't they at least take the photo out of the frame to copy it, so Natalia and Sagrario can each have one?

Debbie thanks for the recap and putting up the comment section for tonight's episode.

I hope everyone's wrong i would hate to see Dr.B get killed off, not only because he has Natalia picture with the letter in the back that Alpnso put there.

He's getting the DNA results to confirm that Emiliano is not the baby's real father these two very crucial info need to come out and be exposed.

I want to see him end up with Ivonne too, although he was saddened to learn about Mac and Cris. He wasn't devastated by the news either and he still wants to help Paloma because of Mac.

I do have to wonder what he is thinking accepting any type of dinner or beverage from La Loca after finding out she may have been doctoring up Mac's insulin medicine.

Romena actually surprised me in this episode. Not the quickie in the can, the snark at Paloma but how she let Anamar tell her that she was there for Emiliano the love of her life. I would have thought that Ro would have shot back he may be the love of your life but you definitely aren't the love of his as I well know.

Emiliano continues to be the dimmest bulb in town. I still can not believe he would being another girl into the mix at the wedding. He has absolutely no sensitivity, to either Paloma's feelings or Romina's. Too much like his Papi for my taste.

I imagine that Letty Calderon will never wear anything purple in her life after this finishes. I couldn't help thinking that purple is the color of royalty and she obviously sees herself as the Queen of Morals in RdM. I also thought she is getting careless and leaving clues. She goes to buy the belladonna from the same woman who sold her the first batch and who calls her by name. When we lived in Mexico there were herb stalls in the market place where you could buy traditional medicines but it is odd that the woman has belladonna which is known to be deadly even in small doses, one leaf can kill an adult and has no real use in trad meds. Oh and just as a point of interest Belladonna flowers are - ta da - Purple in color.

So the wedding actually came off. That surprised me but I guess Orly must be a slick talker but he isn't going to be able to talk himself out of the mess when he mentions moving to Houston for two years. I see divorce number dos coming for Camila. Looks like she and Romina will have a joint ceremony.

Poor Paloma it looks like they have now moved from dressing her from the church charity bag to the household curtains. Can they make this girl look any worse?

Note to Doc B - pass on the coffee.

Deci Girl, Somebody needs to tell Paloma that just because she has a bunch of suitors she's not Scarlett O'Hara from Gone With the Wind.

Everybody shows up dressed to the nines and Paloma shows up wearing a curtains.

~Caborita

Deb, thanks so much for the recap. I also enjoyed your title. I can't wait 'til the honeymoon is over for Orly.

ITA with you Vivi in that I think Dr. B. may not be with us any longer but I SO want to be wrong. While his death will put Don E. onto to Carloca immediately, it will be sad to see him go. And as other have pointed out, why does no one question this change in La Loca's behavior? Especially, Dr. B. and Rufi as they know she tampered with Mac's meds. Basta

Luz was very mature but I have to agree with Ann. I just knew poor Xochi was going to get snatched by her crazy drunken father.

Carlota is belladonna personified--pretty but deadly. Even if it's possible to use belladonna to help sleeping, there are a gazillion other things to use which are less dangerous. I hope the herb seller is getting suspicious about the vast quantities La Loca is buying.

Thanks for the recap Debbie.

I'm dissapointed with Camila going through with the ceremony. I don't like Orlando.

I hope little Xóchitl will stay safe for the rest of the novela. I hate when bad stuff happens to little kids.

Jarocha

Funny recap, Debbie, and the commenters have me laughing as well... a lot of gifted writers are watching this novela. I am not including myself in that group as writing doesn't come easy for me, unfortunately.

Anyway, I was completely dismayed that Orly bamboozled Cami into the wedding. He is going to be revealed for the "weasel" he is as Emoony knows about the move to Houston came up before the wedding and Orly may drop it on Cami as something that just came up.

Dr. B, I will miss you. This lapse of memory and deductive ability will cost dearly.

I'm wondering if they are showing a scene of Dr. B taking a sip of coffee but a call will come thru for him before he has a chance to drink it. I think this is to get us wondering. Do you think....???

Ann-NYC

It would be so unfair to take Dr. B from us. I still haven't gotten over Inaki...probably never will. But it seems like it's about time for Loca to do her thing and his demise will certainly alert Eugenius. M guesstimate is: he's a goner.

GinCA

Thanks, as always, Debbie, for your insightful recap. As did others, I loved getting out of Real del Dodge.

It sure does look like Bermudez is on the way out. I can't see another way out of the fact that Paloma plans to leave the day after her birthday celebration. No way Carlota is letting this happen.

Also, Carlota doesn't just want Paloma there with her because of the inheritance. She wants to keep her by her side, making sure she never has a loving relationship in her life, since La Loca doesn't have one. I'm pretty sure if she'd been able to convince Cris to be her hombre in return for a get-out-of-jail-free card, that Paloma would have been free to go. After all, Carlota told Cris they'd go far, far away.

I was also surprised Camila married Orly. They sure led us up the garden path with those scenes: Rafa telling her the truth about the threat and Camila asking Orly if it was true. I was hoping against hope she'd realize he never really answered her question. But no. At this point, I don't care what happens to Camila. She may be too dumb to be happy!

GinCA, don't sell yourself short. I always enjoy your comments, and they are very well written.

Novelera,

You are right on about Carlotta's motivation. She doesn't want Paloma to be happy - ever. Paloma is a constant reminder that Cris loved Macarena and only Macarena. From the time Paloma was a child she has treated her with unrelenting cruelty. I've come to the conclusion that Paloma takes it now because the witch is the only family she has. I think she thinks any kind of family is better than none.

As for Camila, she may be a smart businesswoman but otherwise she is as dumb as a rock. She is also easily manipulated. Look how she let Romena lead her around on string for years and she also let a few snide comments from the Purple queen and Diana turn her away from Rafa. No wonder Orly thinks she is perfect.

Another wonderful, wonderful recap, Debbie!

Add me to the list of people who were amazed that Camila went ahead with the wedding. And the poor thing had to stand in mud in front of the altar.

Ann nyc – I was worried somebody would snatch the little girl too. It’s surprising to me that the social worker has said that Luz doesn’t qualify, but still lets her keep the child for now.

Now I’m wondering – how did Rufi know which ring was the fake?

To me, the best part of the wedding was the "Peligro" sign on the electric fence in the foreground when they showed the overviews of the crowd in the yard. Yes, indeed.

i tend to love Liliana's sarcasm towards Romina and lawyer lezadi(Gabriel's father) is good at incriminating criminals men even the guilty will pledge guilty without knowing.love the play keep it up.
