ENDA, January 13, 2010

Orlando tries to reassure Natalia that everything will work out. Then of course turns it around to him and how he needs her at the wedding when he marries Camila. Good ol' Orlando. Ends up talking about himself. Natalia asks him to get Ivonne to come to see her.

Paloma is at the hospital visiting the baby. Emiliano and some weird dude with flutes named Alejandro come up and Emiliano invites Paloma to accompany them to see the baby. Alejandro plays the flute for the baby. Mega baby is actually not annoyed at this. Emiliano tells Paloma that babies react well when music is playing. So the flute playing is actually soothing the baby? Most people would play something a little bit more calming. Like Mozart, Beethoven or any other classical pianist. Cute baby though. Paloma tells Emiliano that she imagined that he would be a great dad, but didn't realize how amazing he is. Emiliano says that the love she is showing his child shows him how much she will show with her own. He then looks sad and when questioned by Paloma he says that would mean she would have a child with another.

German visits PJC and he tells him it's time. PJC without the P begs German to help Natalia if he can only save one.

Angelica is on the phone with Dario and plays nice. She wants him to come and read the summary she wrote for the book. (the part in the back of the book that explains what the story is about. don't know the right word) At first he refuses, but with a little more persuasion from Angelica he relents.

Madeleine, PJC's mom, drops off a box at the church that explains the past. In case he ever wants to know. Padre Mateo? asks why he left PJC. She says that even though she was born here most of her family lived in France. She spent a lot of time there studying dance. On one of her vacations here she met PJC's dad. She ended up pregnant, but didn't want to renounce her career path. I felt I had no other way out and decided that my career came first. That's why I left him with his dad.

Camila tries to warn Diana about Samuel. Diana of course doesn't want to hear it. Fine replies Camila. I tried to warn you. My hands are washed.

Padre Benito asks Madeleine if she knew that PJC's dad was an alcoholic and died of liver disease. She admits that she knew it all and read the Mexican papers daily in hopes of finding out something about him. God blessed me by keeping me alive so that I can ask him for forgiveness.

PJC and Natalia are being lead to the courthouse for the trial. Crowds outside yelling.

Diana is helping Romina put on a girdle while telling her that once you have a child your figure looks horrible. Good job Diana. Romina wants to look sexy again for Emiliano. Diana tells her not to put it on to tight or it can cut off her milk. Romina gets a sparkle in her eyes when hearing this. Diana says she wants to be close to the baby, Emiliano and her. So don't push me away. She apologizes to Romina on her bad attitude at the hospital. Romina reminds Diana that she has a bad relationship right now with her son and that complicates things. Diana asks for her help and Romina says she'll try, but he doesn't want her or Samuel near the baby. Why asks Diana. I don't know replies Romina. Perhaps because he rubs Emiliano the wrong way. Diana asks how she feels about Samuel. I love him dearly responds Romina. Diana promises to help her with the Samuel situation if she helps her with Emiliano.

Camila goes wedding dress shopping. She gets a call from Orlando. He tells her he's about to enter the courtroom.

Packed courthouse. Natalia and PJC are escorted in. Dr. Bermudez, Rufi, Paloma and Gabriel are watching from the sidelines. A man yells out "assassino!" Crowd in an uproar. Bailiff yells out silence. PJC and Natalia have decided to keep German as their attorney. The judge asks for their plea. Both say not guilty. The prosecutor calls PJC to the stand or stool. He's sworn in.

P: Is it true that 9 years ago you were engaged to be married to Natalia?
PJC: Yes
P: Then why did you decide not to marry her?
PJC: I didn't feel right taking the next step with her. I realized I did not love her the way she should have been loved.
P: Also because you felt guilty over a suicide.
G: Objection!
P: Is it or isn't it true that you told Natalia you were feeling guilty over a death?
PJC: An emotional death. I believed that a woman had committed suicide because of me. For many years I felt guilty until I found out that it was a lie and she was still alive.
P: And who was that person?
PJC: I don't think it's really necessary for me to mention that person's name in this hearing. That person is now dead.
P: It is really important for you to tell us the name of that person.
PJC: That person was Macarena Espinosa de los Monteros. And the person who made me believe that she was dead for all those years was her sister. Carlota Espinosa de los Monteros. (Paloma jaw dropping impactada)

Carloca pours herself some wine and wishes she could be at the trial. She wants everything to come out the way she wants it too.

Luz is walking around and buys an ice cream. She gives one to a little girl. Luz asks the little girl what her name is. The mother of the little girl scowls her for talking to strangers.

Rufi tells Paloma that it is probably best they leave. Paloma says no. I am finding out things that no one wanted to tell me. It's time to know the whole truth. Rufi thinks it will be too painful. German protests the line of questioning. The judge overrules.

P: Is it or isn't it true that you were going to leave Real de Monte with Macarena?
PJC: Yes. Macarena and I were going to leave to get married. Her family would not accept me. We both loved each other very much.

Paloma asks Rufi if she knew this. Rufi just hangs her head. Paloma leaves. Emiliano follows. German asks the judge if he can have a recess to talk to his client. Dr. Bermudez asks Rufi if PJC was the man that Macarena talked about. Rufi says not to ask her any questions.

Paloma is outside the courtroom crying. Emiliano asks if she's okay. Paloma says she's confused. Emiliano says you probably should not have come. No, it' best I did replies Paloma.

Rafael gets a call from a European company interested in importing his ceramics.

Gabriel informs Paloma that the trial has been postponed till tomorrow. Rufi tries to talk to Paloma, but she turns her back on her. Gabriel asks if she wants him to take her home. Yes, replies Paloma. I no longer want to be here. Everyone has lied to me and storms off. Rufi asks Gabriel not to leave her alone. Rufi is worried that Paloma no longer loves her, but Emiliano reassures her that Paloma does. Rufi wanted the truth to come out, but was afraid of Paloma's reaction.

German goes into the room where PJC is being held and asks him why PJC never told him about his relationship with Macarena. PJC felt that it was irrelevant to the case. It was a secret. German says it is important. It makes you look dirty. You were married to god and here you are with a woman. PJC says that was before I became a priest. German tells him that all this stuff that has come out has complicated things. If you keep hiding secrets then it will be difficult to win.

Gabriel walks Paloma home.

Carloca wants to know what happened at the trial. Paloma asks why she never told her that PJC and Macarena were in love. Carloca says it was a delicate situation. You put PJC on a pedestal and Macarena never wanted to tell you. Then why didn't you asks Paloma. Because I did not want to cause you any more heartache replies Carloca. Paloma recalls the day PJC found out Macarena was not dead from her. Carloca says the only reason I told you about your dad was because you kept insisting. So I hope you realize why I kept quiet about this. You and PJC thought that Macarena was a saint. More talking and Paloma comes to a conclusion. Could that mean that PJC is my dad?

Rafael tells Luz the good news. Luz wants to celebrate. Rafael says she can ask him for whatever she wants so that he can show her this thanks. Luz mentions meeting a girl today and suddenly realizes that it is the drawing that Gabriel did. She wants Rafael to help her find the little girl. Why asks Rafael. I don't know. I just feel something every special for her.

Carloca tells Paloma to calm down. Your mind is wandering. Do you want the truth asks Carloca. That is all I've ever wanted replies Paloma. Carloca tells her that Macarena was already pregnant with her when she met PJC. Macarena was going to make PJC believe she was his. That can't be replies Paloma. What else happened? Carloca begged Macarena not to lie. It just wasn't right. So that is how the hatred between your mother and I started. You have no idea how hard it has been for me to keep this all a secret. Forgive me for not telling you the whole truth. I was scared of your reaction. You have suffered enough. Please understand me. Forgive me. They hug and Rufi comes in looking confused.

Paloma gets a call from the baby furniture store saying that there is no order for her. Romina crying says my dad assured me it was done. Then thinks that perhaps she called the wrong store. Emiliano comes home and asks her what's wrong. Nothing replies Romina. Then she tells him that her dad cashed the check, but never bought the baby furniture. I think he robbed me. His own daughter. Romina cries and Emiliano comforts her.

Camila tells Orlando that she went to see Diana to warn her. Orlando thinks that she shouldn't have gone. It's best to leave it alone. Camila asks about PJC. Orlando is scared that he will be in prison for the rest of his life.

Dr. Bermudez tells Ivonne that he never thought PJC was the love of Macarena's life. Ivonne says that when they were in love, he was not yet a priest. What's the problem? Dr. Bermudez says that Macarena confided in him that the man she loved had died. But when PJC came to Real de Monte she never told me. Then a thought enters his head. Can PJC be Paloma's father? He vows to protect Paloma like he promised Macarena.

PJC asks Macarena for forgiveness in letting out their secret.

Carloca is in her room happy. Now everyone will know what a hoochie Macarena was. My plans are coming out exactly like I wanted them too. Even better. How good revenge tastes.

Luz tells Gabriel and his dad about meeting the girl in the picture.

Orlando asks Emiliano how Paloma is doing. Not good replies Emiliano. Orlando encourages Emiliano to go to her because she may need comforting.

Liliana asks Paloma how she can be okay without Emiliano. She's having a hard time with Erik. Paloma says it's hard, but I want him to have a good life. What about Gabriel asks Liliana. Gabriel is different replies Paloma. With him I feel free. Liliana tells her to be happy with what life is offering her. What life is offering me is turning 18 next month replies Paloma. Then I can leave Real de Monte. Then I will never see Carloca, Emiliano or Gabriel. Of course Gabriel walks in at that moment. Liliana calls Paloma who turns around to see Gabriel. He tells Paloma that he wants to take her out and make her forget about what happened yesterday. He's been worried. Just then Emiliano walks in and says no. Paloma will be coming with me.

Manana: Inez tells Carloca that Macarena's rep it torn into pieces; PJC tells German that he wants to talk to Paloma to tell her everything; Who will Paloma choose to go with?

Can someone tag this for me please? Thanks.

Gloria excellent recap and than you.

Can Paloma ever put two and two together please get it together.I am so tired of seing you being lied to from Carloca to RoMEna and German.

I hope Samuel gets everything he can off of Diana, and she was warn by Camila.

Orlando is there a book for Dummies called lacking social skills and how to improve them.

Emiliano the apple doesn't fall far from the tree, stop bothering Paloma you're married.

Finally the birthday is next month.

I don't feel sorry for Rufi she with holding vital information and she of all people should warn Paloma how evil her aunt really is.

How much she has lied and manipulated Macarena and her.

RoMEna now you are seeing what kind of father you really have and how low down and slimy he is.

I hope Angelica has a good plan to get back at Dario.

Good morning Gloria. I'll tag it for you. And so glad you dropped by the Gancho line to talk with us. Hope your little doggie was snug and warm last night.

Dang, I thought when the secret came out at the trial, Paloma would finally be in the know. But Wily Carlota has twisted the truth again. It's torture watching her get away with such malicious lies.

Can't say I'm feeling very sympathetic towards PC's (by the way, loved the "C without the P") mother. Dumping your kid for a ballet career in another country hardly seems justified. Plus she doesn't look like a former ballerina. They usually stay quite thin, although the wheelchair makes sense. The demands of the profession leave them with all kinds of joint problems later in life.

Anyway, great recap. You stay snug and warm too. If you can. Lordy it's cold in the Midwest (and elsewhere!)

Thanks for the recap. I have to admit too to be being disappointed about the big reveal. I just don't get why Paloma would believe la Loca without any hesitation. How many time does she have to get burned?

And what's the whole point of Chris' mother showing on the scene. So we get his background, but where she fits into the scheme of things is bugging me.

And Emi - you know you really can't have it both ways. I'm sorry, but the way he strolled into the room to take Paloma out - hey guy, you're a married man. Even Pal gave him a weird look. He's getting a bit on my nerves lately and I'm hoping that Pal goes off with Gabe instead.

Trial day 2 tonight? Hope it ends soon.

Everytime one of these people who supposedly knew and loved Mac believes Carloca's lie that she was a slut who tried to pass off her baby as another man's, and then selfishly gave her child away, I want to slap them! Really Paloma? Does that sound like the Macarena you knew and loved your entire life?

And Ruffi- Why can't she see that by keeping the secret about Pal's father and Carloca's schemes, she is making things worse. Pal is just getting more hurt and confused. Ack!

And Orlando continues to give the worse advice ever. How could he tell his married son, who has no real plan to get out of that marriage, to go after and fight for another woman? Don't get me started on Em and how selfish he is being by pursuing Pal and not letting her get on with her life with someone else who is actually free. I really hope she chooses to go with Gabe and not Em like she did when PJC was in the hospital.

Can you tell I was a little frustrated with the good folks of Real del Monte last night? Lol! :)

-Vivi in DC

Thanks Gloria for the recap. I had My dvr completely blacked out for about 20 annoying minutes during this episode. Was so happy to wake up and read your recap.

Vivi in DC, I was thinking the same thing about Paloma's ease at believing Carloca and not taking into consideration Macarena's personality and emotion when she said she had only one love in her life.

Carloca can sure come up with "explanations" to any of the "issues" that come her way and threaten to expose her. That must have been part of the deal she made with the devil.

So, if Paloma is finally turning 18 next month...How long is that in Real delMonte days? 2-3 months?

Gabe looked cute when he walked in to take Paloma out. His eyes showed a real affection for her. A softness that was touching and very short lived...Oh Emo!

I don't know how Paloma can believe anything Carloca says after hearing in court that she was the one that made PJC think that Macarena was dead all those years and therefore kept them apart. Wouldn't she be thinking that PJC is the one to be trusted and go to him for answers. I never understood how Macarena could just not say anything about Carloca pushing her out that window when she was dying. Wouldn't she be afraid something would happen to Paloma with a murderer as her guardian.

I like Gabriel so much better than Emiliano. I hope nothing bad is going to happen to him. I know it won't happen, but I wish he and Paloma would wind up together.

Can't stand Diana (although she appears to be the comic relief in this show). She is in for a shock when she discovers the real Samuel.

Thanks a lot for the great recap Gloria. I don't know what I would do without all of you recappers that put in so much time for all of us.

Thanks so much Gloria for your recap.

This is my first telenovela and I'm 100% positive after yesterdays episode that logic does not exist in the telenovela land. The trial was a joke, the lies of Calrota are getting more and more obvious and Paloma still believes in them, a married man gets an advice from his father to follow his true love. That was the most annoying and frustrating episode by far.

I only hope Angelica is up to some good revenge. She is the only one who has some working brain cells.

maria

Thanks for the recap Gloria.

ITA with the frustration of all of you regarding Pal's insanity (doing the same thing over and over but expecting different results) about her tia. Really Pal, after your speech about La Loca's meanness you believe that story about your mother.

I hope the writers do not let us down and have the exposure of La Loca's wickedness being complete but also over time as she has tortured her victims for such a long time.

Orlando is a mess. I wonder what could help him.

Emiliano needs to grow up and stop harassing Pal.

Thanks for the recap Gloria.

Interesting that the characeres keep talking about the way the legal sistem works in México and then they portray a completely wrong image of a trial. The room, judge, jury(seriously?) and attorneys were all wrong. The only novela that has ever gotten it completely right (though some have also done a good job too) was TvAzteca's Nada Personal. If anyone is interested in seeing a true "careo" (trial session) you could check out minute 5:33 of this video.

Oh the annoyance after being insightful and recognizing last week when Carloca was encouraging her to hate Emiliano, RoMEna and most especially their baby.

Paloma backslides again and believes the queen of lies about her mother.I have to say that Rufi is an accomplice too since she refuses to speak up and tell her the truth.

Rufi if you really love her so much, you have to realize you are hurting her even more than Carloca. If Paloma was told about Mac and Cris she would see for herself to what lengths Carloca would take to keep her in the dark and manipulate her.

Just like Paloma caught on to RoMEna's lies about her and Emiliano after seeing her with German. I believe it's going to have to be something she unexpectedly has to come across to take the blinders off in believing anything else coming out of Carloca's mouth.

How this will happen i don't know but i give up waiting for Rufi to finally telling her the truth.

The birthday will probably be another year RDM time. Since Paloma's senior year was about two years.

Lynda,
I so am hoping the same as you. Emi is just becoming such a debbie-downer. I know he's miserable with Romena and now knows the baby isn't his, but I just love watching the chemistry between Paloma and Gabriel.
I keep thinking about the plot line of Querida where viewerville was led to believe that Lorena would wind up with Gabriel Soto's character, almost to the very end. But Ernesto won the day. I'm hoping the writers feel like they've killed off ebough characters, especially likable ones, and "cure" Gabriel and give him a happy ending. The two of them just seem to fit better together. But that's just me...

Daisynjay i think a lot of us are put by how Emiliano is acting but it looks like what ever ails Gabriel is terminal and can't be treated or cured.

The big hints from Eugenio and Luz seem to indicate this is the case.

Another vote for being disappointed at the gullible Paloma believing that vicious bi**h and her lies. Macarena certainly deserves better from the daughter she protected all those years. I did wonder how the prosecutor knew about the suicide story.

Germs is right, the Macarena revelation does make JC look like dirt but only because everyone in RDM is so brain dead they judge someone for a relationship that happened years before he became a priest. However ever if those slimy pictures of him with Carloca come out it will be worse. Then again I wonder why the purple cow would want them to come out because her reputation for being some upright will take a hit.

Rufi in keeping her mouth shut has now become an accomplice to Carloca's lies. Paloma deserves better from her and it would serve her right if the girl gave her the cold shoulder for a day or so.

Poor JC. How is he going to tell Paloma the truth when even he fell for the liar's fairly tale. Then again if Paloma tells him what she was told he might figure it out since I can't believe he wouldn't know that he had been Macarena's one and only.

We really need for Nat to drop that picture and find the letter in the back. Interesting that Luz feels a connection to the little girl. At the time i wondered why there had been that little scene when Gabe saved her from that perv. For awhile there i wondered if it had been some hallucination brought on by what we think is a rain tumor.

Gloria, such a great recap. Mil gracias.

So, is anyone wondering if Camilla and Orlando are going to go the distance? He's turning out to be so dumb.

Excellent recap Gloria.

Has this hit rock bottom yet?

Nat has the evidence that might exonerate her and Cris hidden in the pictureframe- will she find it in time or will someone or something intercede at those last fleeting moments to save them?

Time for the tide to change.

Diana

Add me to those frustrated by all the RdM citizens.

Germán is totally not doing his job. He should have asked all these questions of Cris's and Natalia's histories before the trial started. Also, he thinks people won't see things fairly? It is HIS JOB to get them to see things that way. Apparently he thinks his function there is to wear a suit and say "objection!" Has he even considered establishing their alibis?

Paloma's birthday was two months away WAY back when Edmundo left town.

I hope Paloma and PJC get a chance to talk and figure out the truth. I think it's time for that little secret/plotline to be wrapped up so we can move on to the next phase.

I don't know how many episodes are in this TN, but I would hate if there were 160 episodes of lies and treachery and then like 5 for all the truth to come out. I think it's time for things to begin to unwind for people like Diana, Samuel, Dario, Carloca and all the other villans. Enough already. Let's get going here!!

~Caborita

This novela is 171 episode last night was episode 132, so we have a lot more to go.They do need to start letting some inkling of the truth about Carloca to come out.

I hope during this trial which she believes will be Cris downfall, it will backfire on her.

As for Cris mother right now i still don't see what her purpose is and her excuse to leave Cris for her career does not make her sympathetic.

As for German Angelica told Emiliano he needed to get a more experienced lawyer than German to handle Cris and Natalia case.

I guess Emiliano since he's been mooning over Paloma has completely forgot that advice. We all know how clueless Orlando is, so many this where Cris mom will step in and get a competent lawyer.

Julia i think RDM is in it's own time warp so we have to dispense with actual real time from when Inaki died to now.

Gloria, thank you for the informative/helpful recap.

I'm not defending Paloma but Carloca is the only person who has actually provided an explanation for anything that Paloma has asked even though everything Carloca says are complete lies. And Pal should know better from her life time of abuse from Carloca. Rufi just keeps her mouth shut and Macarena lied to Pal about being her child her entire life. Chris thinks he is Pal's father but hasn't really pursued anything beyond trying to protect Paloma.

The trial should be interesting tonight as Germ seems to have done zero prep for the defense. Will he try to win to enhance his reputation as a lawyer or lose to enjoy the riches Carloca has promised to provide him.

GinCA

I hope Rufi finally cracks and tells Paloma everything. She is a good person; surely she can't just stand idly by and let Paloma get jerked around any longer. They've suffered enough.

I'd like to see Germs turn away from the dark side and pull out a trial win, but that is going to take a telenovela miracle (possible, of course) because he is in no way prepared. I'm surprised the partner/owner of his law firm would let him take on such a high-profile case alone when he's so inexperienced. His public flailing will reflect very poorly on the firm. Beanie time...

Thanks, Gloria, great job on the recap.

DecieGirl, as I remember it, the prosecutor did not know about the suicide. He just said that Cris had told someone (Natalia?) that he felt guilty about a death. There was a big courtroom gasp as if it were going to come out he'd killed someone a long time ago. I was thinking the prosecutor got that from Carloca's envelope. But Cris answered that the death he felt guilty about was a suicide.

Cris' mother said that from the point his father died of liver disease when he was an adolescent, she lost track of him and didn't know his whereabouts until she read the announcement he was accused of murder.

Rafa got the European export business because Luz asked Eugenio Lizarde (César) to help him out. So Rafa was effusively thanking Luz last night.

I thought Ange also told Em to stay close to Paloma. Both she and Orly are changing their tune for no reason I can figure out.

I Angelica was telling him what he was doing wasn't fair to Paloma that he should give her a chance to make a life for herself.

Angelica has been telling Emiliano all along to stay away from Paloma - that it's not fair to her. But I thought last night she changed her tune, specifically relating to the pain Paloma was feeling over things that came out at Cris' trial. I don't think she meant to court her as a boyfriend, but to comfort her as a friend. Orly said that for sure. And I remembered Ange offering him advice to be a friend. Perhaps my memory was faulty. Anyone else remember that?

So grateful for the recap and all the comments.

There's more to the Madeline line. In the pre-show credits, Mother Madeline is shown with Eugenio looking up and smiling like they know each other well. This could bode well for (-P)JC.

German's role in the trial is a real nail-biter. Is he going to cross Carloca and pull it off for JC and Natalia, or not. I agree with one of the commenters that the pictures Carloca has would tarnish her reputation if made public. However, if she claims they were novios and then he turns out to be an assassin, she might be forgiven by the same folks who are so quick to condemn the good ex-padre.

I don't think the prosecutor has looked in the envelope yet--another nail-biter.

Finally, on JC, I think he only thought about it once or twice of possibility that Paloma is his child. It hasn't really started to dawn on him that the timing was perfect (men can't count birthdate + 3 mos -14 days, I guess). Unfortunately, Carloca's horrible explanation to Paloma is credible to her--as long as Pal adjusts her RDM beanie about Macarena's reputation.

I don't get the feeling that Emiliano knows for sure that the baby isn't his--that would be grounds for divorce and he'd rather be with Paloma. I think he suspects, as German does, but doesn't believe the DNA test lied. The only way they are going to find out now, since German refuses the test Bermudez wanted him to take, is for the baby to need blood and baby won't match Emiliano's.

Binding up Romena is a very old fashioned thing to do, especially when Romy had a C-section.

I have heard that the bandaging does help the tummy to firm up again sooner, but what I couldn't believe was the way Romina was quickly standing up and twisting around and all after her C-section. I remember my sister was in some pain for a week or two afterward and hated to do anything that put stress on the incision area.

PJC did think that the timing made sense and that Paloma could be his daughter, but he wasn't super sure and for some reason seemed to think Carloca's explanation could be possible. I can understand that after all these years he wouldn't remember exactly when he slept with Macarena (not to mention that Paloma's birthday seems to float), but I find it hard to believe he'd accept that Mac was getting busy with some other guy right before they got together. Cris and Mac don't seem like the sort of people who would fall into bed the moment they laid eyes on each other, so doesn't it seem likely there was some longer time between when they began dating and when Paloma was conceived?

Sorry Anon 4:59 i believe Emiliano is very sure the baby is not his by what the doctor told them. RoMEna kept insisting she was eight months along.

Dr.Bermudez even told Camila there was no way that it's wrong about how far along RoMEna is about seven months.

Emiliano is just waiting until RoMEna is fully recovered from her c-section and then he's going to spring it on her about the baby's paternity.

You're right by the opening credits Madeline may use Eugenio as a ally to get Cris to accept her.

Gloria – many thanks as always for your great detail. You must be a Spanish-speaker because you seem to comprehend so easily. I’m always finding things in your recaps that I missed while watching the show.

Madeleine must not have been trying very hard to find Chris – reading the French newspapers is hardly the way to go about it, though she got lucky this time.

I was thinking the same thing, Maggie. Obviously it's been quite awhile since she had a dancing career, and she seems to have plenty of money. She could have hired a detective, or gone to wherever she left him in Mexico and asked around. It's not like he was trying to hide. Madeleine did not make much effort over all those years.

About Madeline, there was voice over of maybe her father telling her she would lose too much by not pursuing her career, something like that. This was before she got on the plane when she was still in Paris, so there may have been pressure and conflict we don't know about. I'm not certain she is totally at fault yet, and clearly she knows she made a terrible mistake. I'm not so ready to condemn her.

Everyone has made other points I saw too, I really don't get Rufi, is she that afraid of Carloca, is that the reason? And keeping German as the lawyer, for sure, beanie time.

To continue about Madeline, what I'm thinking is that she could have been quite young and it wouldn't be a stretch to believe parents, especially longer ago, would prefer their daughter give up an illegimate child and hide the whole thing.
