ENDA Tuesday January 26. The Genie is unbottled.

Are things finally turning around? Will Don Eugenio grant our three wishes and free the prisoners, save the townspeople from the mindmelt spell they’re under, and deliver La Loca to her grisly fate? Well, things are drifting that way, at long last.

In chambers, Eugenio says he thinks someone with an interest in Cristóbal’s downfall is interfering in the trial. The prosecutor says they don’t know who it is, so whatevs. The judge says regardless, y’all hop to it and finish up by day after tomorrow, because this fifteen minutes of court per day is wearing him out and his golf game won’t play itself.

Carlota is offended that Rufi plans to leave town with Paloma, after she has done her the charity of allowing her to work like a slave and take incessant verbal abuse in exchange for a pittance of a salary. Hire someone else, says Rufi, as she continues toiling over the day’s cabbage (okay, maybe she doesn’t work that hard. It looks like she’s slowly peeling it apart, leaf by leaf). Carloca thinks Rufi should convince Paloma to stay, so they don’t have to go begging (mendigando) in the capital. Suddenly she changes her tune, inspired by the jar of belladonna. Why don’t they invite Doc B to dinner, to thank him for all he’s doing?

All the girls are back in their school uniforms and sitting in the classroom, where they will receive their diplomas. What exactly was the point of that whole graduation celebration?

Gabriel gets jealous of some couple making out in the church courtyard. He leans against a pillar and turns into Emoony 2.0.

In the courtroom, Eugenio gets a crack at the new witness, Leopoldo, who says he is a fruit vendor but used to drive a truck. “Why the change?” asks Don E. He couldn’t drive well due to worsening diabetes. “So, weakness, loss of vision?” Yes. The prosecutor feebly objects, but is rebuffed. Don E. gets Leo the Lyin’ to admit he can’t see well from a distance. Germy gets kerfuffled, and some guy in front of him who looks like a broom barfed on his head isn’t happy either.

Sandra, mostly recovered from hepatitis, tells Liliana she’ll be able to go to Paloma’s birthday party. She asks whether Gabriel might be there. Lili assumes so, since the party is at his house and he’s the latest fly in Paloma’s web. Sandra is a bit disappointed.

Don YouGenio subjects Leo to an impromptu vision and memory test, which he fails miserably. Germy gets squirmy. The Padre Cadre snickers. Don E. accuses Leo of perjury.

Leo the Lyin’ insists that the person he saw push Alonso had dark eyes and limped, but slithers out of the perjury trap by agreeing it must not have been Cris. I hope the judge is watching Germán’s reactions to all this. It is pretty freaking clear which side he’s on. Don E. gloats modestly.

Emiliano is at the hospital, holding the perfectly healthy baby. The doctora spills that Romina rarely visits, and when she does she spends most of the time on the phone. Emo does a forceful yoga exhale so we know he doesn’t approve.

The girls are still hanging around the school in their uniforms, saying long goodbyes. Sandra assumes Emiliano must know Paloma is leaving, and that’s why he has given up on her and was with some other pretty girl at the movies. Qué? Paloma is not happy, but her hair looks really good aside from that stupid bow.

Luz sits in the park, watching Xochi play and debating whether she should marry Rafa in order to adopt the little munchkin. {I thought she was going to marry Rafa anyway. What’s the crisis here?}

Rafa and Joel are in the office, bemoaning their personal lives rather than focusing on work, as usual. Rafa is upset that Camila is getting married.

Camila stares at her wedding dress, trying to psych herself up for the marriage.

In another office where little work ever occurs, Angélica tells Orlando that Mr. Gibson called from Houston, something about a house rental. “Are you moving to Houston?” she asks, while thinking, “Is my blouse unbuttoned quite far enough to convince you to reconsider?” He fakes a phone call to get rid of her.

Paloma goes to church, still in her school uniform, and runs into Gabriel. She invites him to attend Camila and Orly’s wedding with her.

Back at the jail, Eugenio asks Cris whether he thinks Carlota may have given all the info on his past to the prosecution. “Absolutely. She is the most intelligent and perverse woman I’ve ever met,” says Cris.

Romina is doing abdominal crunches. Sure healed from that C-section fast. Emo storms in and yells at her that he doubts the baby is his and their family is a farce because she’s still the same selfish b!tch she’s always been. He wants a divorce.

Romi gets all whiny and defensive and says she lurves him sooooo much, and he’d be happy with her if he just wanted to. Emo says she manipulated him into marrying her, but he has had enough. She accuses him of leaving her for that short-skirted tramp. He says Anamar has nothing to do with it.

Gabriel spies on Paloma from the choir loft as she prays. She’s a bit afraid and nervous about her impending move, and asks for blessings and comfort. As she gets up, Padre Benito approaches and encourages her to lighten up a bit on Cris. He really does care about her, even if he and Mac didn’t share all their news, you know, while Macarena was busy dying. Paloma is too stubborn to move the plot forward.

The press barges into the office and asks Ange about her accusations against Darío. She smiles for the cameras and says of course she is absolutely certain that he stole her work. Orlando beams proudly.

Gabriel catches up with Paloma outside the church. His homeless beggar outfit doesn’t scare her off, because she is still in her weird school uniform. With the SEE-THROUGH shirt. I still can’t get over that, but I hope we won’t have to see them anymore. Or see through them. Paloma tells him she’s tired of all the secrets. Gabe tells her sometimes people feel they need to keep secrets in order to protect the ones they love. She doesn’t care. Does she think that refusing to talk to people will get rid of the secrets? Gabriel thinks to himself that he hopes she never finds out his secret.

Germs goes to Misery Manor, takes a few deep breaths, and reports to the Wicked Witch the disappointing performance of their star witness. The Purple Cow calls him a good-for-nothing and throws him out. She nearly foams at the mouth as she tries to think of a new plot.

Lucila the editor tells Darío she ain’t happy. He claims Ange and Miriam are just trying to frame him because of their unrequited love for his fine self. Lucila isn’t buying it. She says Olivia and Susana have also accused him of plagiarizing their work. Darío throws a fit. Lucila gives him a final check and tells him she won’t risk publishing his book, and their contract is finito.

Romina takes a hint from Anamar and wears a shirt as a dress. She cries to Orlando that Emo wants to leave her. She begs him to make Emoony a happy family man for the sake of their precious baby.

Emo sits in the park and basks in the sun, appreciating the fine weather and scenery. No, he moons, of course. He has some blue-tinted flashbacks so we can see him smile and remember better times.

Emo tells Rafa he’s decided to get a divorce, but he’ll fight to keep the baby. He’s afraid to do another paternity test, though, because he’s gotten attached to the little one. Rafa thinks it would help with the divorce.

Camila writes a letter she doesn’t intend to deliver, telling Rafael how she feels about him. Schmucky, is the gist. Then she burns the letter and cries.

Luz introduces Xochi to Gabriel. They are fast friends. Gabriel says she’s lucky to have found so much happiness in Realweird del Monte, while things are not going so well for him with Paloma. Luz says love is a blessing whether it lasts for only an instant or for a lifetime, so take what you can get.

Rafa is still moping about Camila’s impending wedding. Emo remarks that he seems so happy with Luz, though. Rafa says that with Luz, he’s doing wild things he never dared to do before. Not sure that’s what a guy wants to hear about his father. Still, though, he can’t get over Camila.

Ange tells Miriam the bomb has exploded; now everyone will know what a cockroach Darío is. Miriam agrees that’s good, but doesn’t seem very happy about it.

Eugenio tells Luz that being a mother is very hard work, and he knows how impulsive she is. She asks whether he doesn’t think she’ll be a good mother, and he is saved from answering by a call from Carloca, who wants to see him.

Romina assaults Anamar in the hotel lobby and calls her a golfa.

Avances: Carloca shows way too much skin and lights candles. Is she trying to seduce Eugenio?! More catfighting.

Julia thanks for another funny recap.

Really enjoyed Eugenio exposing the lying witness too bad he didn'y get out of him who put him up to it. Padre Benito definitely gave German a knowingly look like he knew he was behind it.

Rufi when will she ever learn when Carloca is being nice it's to further her agenda.

Gabriel should tell Paloma his what the heck is his dark secret.

Emiliano finally decides to tell RoMEna he wants a divorce and the baby may not be his.Thank goodness Rafael gave him some good sound advice to get a DNA to prove the baby isn't his.

It's official RoMEna needs to be locked up in a mental ward before she turns into a full fledged Carloca.

For her to run to Orlando after all the times she was nasty and rude to him. So he can convinced Emoon to stay with her because of her ego. This girl needs round the clock therapy quick.

Enjoy Carloca ripping into German and telling him he was useless wantto see what La Loca is going to say to Eugenio to convince to throw Cris's case.

I wonder if Miriam is going to betray Angelica?

Camila why in the world are you writing a goodbye cleansing letter to Rafael one day before your wedding to another man?

Wow Julia, this was one of your best and that's saying something. Great title and opening paragraph and then just a ton of witty, occasionally ribald remarks, you rascal.

Forceful yoga exhale, not happy but her hair loooks really good, is my blouse unbutoned enough to make you rethink your plan, too stubborn to move the plot forward....those were just a few. You're ready to take this show on the road and do standup comedy along with Kat of Sortilegio.

Wednesday morning, I start off the day laughing my head off at your recaps. So be sure and get me tickets when you two start touring.

I hope I'm wrong but I think Carloca will be able to thwart Paloma's plans one more time by killing off Dr. Bermudez. Carloca deserves a fate worse than Barbara Greco got in MEPS.

I can't believe I was going to begin a rant over a TN.

~Caborita

Thanks for hilarious recap Julia. Loved your take on why Emo is divorcing Romeena...Becasue she is a B*tch!

The secrecy behind Gabriel's illness is getting ridiculous. They shouldn't elude to it so often just to keep us in the dark.

I don't think any of us can handle another scene with Carloca showing some skin...eww! If her attempt at seducing Eugenio has an inkling of being successful...it will crush all respect I have for Eugenio at this point. His character has been portrayed as genuine, caring, and astute. Don't do it dude!!!!

Does anyone think the wedding will acually happen between Cami and Orly?

Julia, your recap was just a riot, top to bottom. Thank you.

So, today there will be jet another miserable attempt for seduction. And Paloma, did she actually apply to the any university, or will we have to watch a week or crying because she missed the deadline?

Anyway, glad the fake witness didn't work out.

Maria

Wonderful recap Julia. You hit the nail on a few things with your great snarky comments.

Carloca showing skin and attempting to seduce ANYONE. Just scary...but if anyone can deal with it, our Eugenius can do it. I have faith in that man.

So Emoony, love that, has had it with his sorry excuse for a wife? The whole idea was stupid, noble, but stupid to begin with marrying her. Now you have to try and deal divorcing her. The onle way out may be the DNA proof that he was lied to, so let's hope he listens to Papa #1. That will open the can of worms as how the original test was wrong to begin with. Tsk tsk La Loca.

The whole Camilla mooning and Rafa sighing over their lost love was sort of lame. You're that miserable, than do something about it. Otherwise, go to your respective corners and move on.

Loved loved loved our favorite litigator just decimate that poor guy's testimony. Almost felt sorry for him. It was sneaky and masterful. Loved the snickering padres. (Hey guys, show a little compassion for the poor misled snook in the chair.) I soooooo want La Loca sitting in that chair, but we may not get that. Seems the jury will get the case now and hopefully they have enough doubt to go with an acquittal. I just want to see purple steam coming out of our queen when that happens.

Ok guys there's no way i believe that Eugenio will let the Purple one seduce him. I believe he's testing her to see how far she will go and what news lies she has to spin to get him to things her way.

Just like Eugenio had that smirk on her face when she confronted him about taking over the case. He wanted to see how far she would go and of course La Loca let him see how bothered she was by him taking over from German.

I think were going to have a big cat fight tonight, RoMEna had no business slapping Anamar despite her showing too much of her charms.

So glad the editor woke up and gave Dario his walking papers.

Maybe the distraction of the lying witness will give Dr.B a reprieve for now.

This was wonderful Julia. You were really on fire. Loved the ode to Genie and the obligatory 3 wishes. Your recap was informative and hilarious. In addition to what's already been noted, "charity of allowing her to work like a slave", "incessant verbal abuse" and the return of one of my favorites "Padre Cadre" were great.

Caborita, Barbara and Carlota are similar in that they are both evil to the core. The only difference was that Barbara did end up loving one person, her daughter (once she found out who Aurora was). I don't think Carlota is able to love anyone - she is obsessed with Cris, but I don't think she loves him as she is simply incapable of that particular emotion.

Maria, you had me laughing about Pal's school application. Although we know Carlota won't let her leave - Paloma doesn't so you are right - she certainly hasn't been proactive there.

Carlita, I'm hoping Orlando and Camila don't end up married. Even if she really loved him, Camila wouldn't go to Houston. I think if his heart was really with her, he wouldn't ask her to go as he knows her family and livlihood are in RDM. I think something will happen to stop the wedding - no spoiler, simply a guess.

Anon, I don't think Anamar will take too kindly to her slapdown by Romina and have no doubt this will escalate into a full on fracus.

Diana

Caborita, going on rants over telenovelas is what we do here. No need to hold back just because it's silly.

I, too, don't think Orly and Camila will actually get married. I really hope they don't. Orlando may be well-meaning in some ways but I still think he views Camila as some sort of acquisition, like her life will be merely an annex of his own. He does not seem to regard her as a real person with her own valid concerns and occupations. To him, her new role would be "wife" and that would replace everything she previously was, like business owner, mother, grandmother, friend. It's all about him.

Another vote that says Don E is playing Carloca like a fiddle. He might find her interesting as he told Gabe but I think it is more like looking at some kind of insect under a microscope. As astute as he is even he will be shocked if the truth about all her mass murders comes out. He figures she is just obsessed with Cris and maybe had something to do with Inaki's death but all the rest of it still remains hidden.

Camila and Rafa and Gabe and Emoo mooning around like saps - enough already.

For all the Romina told Paloma many times that Carlotta was a witch she seems to have taken lessons from her and needs a good wake up call or we will have yet another witch presiding over misery in RdM.

I kept thinking yesterday that how on earth did German think throwing a case was going to be career maker? Unless he thought his career would be made by becoming a lying lap dog to the Purple Witch. I wonder how he would feel if he knew she manipulated the DNA test that took his son away from him. Interesting too that he was so interested at first, then decided not to take a second test and has never gone to the the baby even out of curiosity. Too bad the giant one is bonding with Paloma and Emiliano and not his own parents. I see a troubled childhood for the innocent not so little mite.

As stupid as it sounds Paloma probably won't have any trouble getting into University since she is such a brilliant student and an oh so talented artist. ;-)

Gabe lost more points with me when Paloma again told him how she feels about people keeping secrets from her and he thought bubbled about the one he is keeping. I've never seen so many clueless people in one place in my life. It's like they are all living in their own personal bubbles where the only things that get through are what they want.

Interesting that the editor threw Dario out because of the plagiarism. I though his wife's family owned the publishing house. Wasn't that why he stuck with her instead of going with Angie in the first place?

Interesting comment about German Decie girl. He seemed to really want the baby to be his initially, but now seems to have lost any interest. I think it was a combination of thinking he wasn't the father and because he let his ambitions rule.

Initially, it seemed as though he was on the fence as to which way he'd turn. Opportunistic and ambitious, he was an interesting character study. Sometimes good, sometimes not, he was cloaked in a gray cloud of uncertainty.

His betrayal of Cris seems to have cast him as irredeemable. However, there is still a chance he may sacrifice himself in some way for a late redemption.

Diana

Diana,

I also found German to be one of the more interesting characters. In many novelas the secondary characters have more nuances then the leads who are stuck with the star crossed lover mooning and weeping rut. In the beginning German was portrayed as Emiliano's childhood BFF conflicted because for some unaccountable reason he was in love with the junior witch. He seemed to be struggling to tell the truth. Obviously he has some parental issues with his aunt becoming his new step mother and he seems driven to have money.

It seems that his integrity such as it was has been completely sucked out of him because of his associations with the witch sisters. I'll be curious to see how he reacts to having been tossed into the garbage by Carlotta . Will he develop a backbone and tell what he knows or keep silent hoping for the best.

Germy has been one of the most interesting characters on the show, to me. He seems to have a lot of internal conflict. He makes a lot of bad choices, but doesn't entirely give in to evil. Also, he doesn't spend a lot of time moping and crying.

Of course, I am shallow and have also been entranced by his dreamy dark eyes, but the physical charms have been ruined a bit for me since he was contaminated with Carlota's cooties.

decie girl, we met German's father once or twice and the fact that he didn't get along with his stepmother was introduced but never explored. That might have been an intriguing storyline and may have helped explain his character development (or lack thereof).

Diana

Julia...I too have been entranced by those beautiful eyes. I am with all who have been intrigued by German's character and shifts in loyalty. They have not done much to further develop the familial contributors to his ego. We all know he has danced with danger...AKA, the Purply Purle One and Purple Junior. He does seem to harbor a conscience somewhere. He is almost like a stubborn child who knows where the candy jar is and despite being repeatedly punished for sneaking some of that sweet sweet sugar that calling to him, he can't resist knowing it is wrong. This is in complete contrast to Purple 1 and 2 who don't give a darn about what they do and who they trample to get it. They feed off of the anguish that they supply.

Julia LOL contaminated by Carloca's cooties indeed, i still believe German is going to try to get with Paloma because of her inheritance.

He does have the copies of the original inheritance i believe so even though the Purple one considers him a incompetent trial lawyer, i wonder if she will keep his services as the family lawyer too.

German can blackmail her with the evidence he has about her and how insanely obsessed she is about Cris.If he ever told Eugenio about Carloca told him it was a truck not a car that ran over Alonso.

Eugenio would really get after La Loca, right now everyone knows there's something not right in the head Carloca but just can't quite make the connection to a mass murderer yet.

Rufi suspects but does not want to accept that she has been living with a murderer for all of these years.Cris thinks she may have killed Alonso but he has no proof.

The only one who is not surprised and can believe she killed someone who thinks just like her is RoMEna.

It's going to be interesting how all of her murders will be revealed.

Julia – I vote with JudyB – this is one of your best. Really golden, title and all. Thank you so much.

I sympathized with Leopoldo – I’ve been looking at Chris for months now and I would have guessed that his eyes were brown, and I never noticed a scar. My eyes are okay, but my brain – I dunno.

It’s interesting that now both Gabriel and Diana had bowls handy for burning papers in. I sure don’t have one in my house – am I out of fashion?

I’ve been really enjoying German’s character too – thank goodness our good writers have given us complex characters to enjoy instead of the usual black and white ones. And kudos to the actor for bringing the character to life.

I don't have a paper-burning bowl either. Zut alors, how am I supposed to get over the lovers with whom I am star-crossed? Even if I did get one, I'm afraid I would just set off the smoke alarm. Well, maybe then I could move on by meeting a hot fireman.

I don't use a bowl for burning I have an abalone shell. Actually writing something and then burning it is very healing. Every year on the anniversary of my husband's death (It will be 7 this year) I write him a letter about what is going on in my life, my plans what's with the family and then I sage it, burn it and scatter the ashes. The weird thing when Paloma burned her picture of Emiliano it was so bad i couldn't tell if it was him or JC. LOL>

Thanks, Julia, for the snarky fun and pointing out all the beanie moments that we wonder about...why diploma day at school, was school not over yet?...Angie's blouse unbottoned to her navel on her bony little chest...Romi doing stomach crunches after just having a C-section (ouch)...Anamar's ability to retain modesty in her barely there top.

I hope tonight we see more of the smackdown between Romina and Anamar, Camila canceling her wedding plans to Orly...please don't be so desperate, and Carloca completely at the mercy of Eugenio in her grand seduction plans.

GinCA

I'm actually hoping Camila's wedding will happen, but not becuase I think she is such a good match with Orly. I actually hate him (and still can't figure out, what kind of business is plateria).

I'm looking forward to the wedding because Camila has been the best dresser on the show so far, so I can't wait to see her wedding dress. Well if they show her in the dress she can ditch him at the altar.

Maria

Maria, the platería is a silver business. They manufacture the trays, bowls, candleholders, etc. which we sometimes see them unpacking samples of. Not that our execs ever do any real work. I cracked up the other day when Ange encouraged Orlando to hire Miriam to help out, because they're all so busy. Yeah, busy looking lovelorn.

The return to school was super weird. They were all there, in uniforms, not having any kind of class but just to hear Madre Superiora's "go forth and prosper" speech and pick up their diplomas. Which is the whole point of the graduation ceremony. I understand they wanted to get a few of the characters together to have conversations, but it's a small town; they could have just run into each other at the grocery store or the bank.

Decie, I agree burning things can be therapeutic. Your tradition sounds very nice.

I know some large universities can't possibly handout degrees to 5,00 students so they mail them later after the huge graduation ceremony. But this is a small town, where you'd think they could have the diplomas ready. Maybe they didn't want to deal with them that day due to the party afterwards. We shall never know, I fear.

And decie girl, thank you for sharing. This ritual sounds very healing since losing a love one is still painful even after the years roll by.

GinCA

Even if they just needed to pick up their certificates, why did they need to get into uniform again to do it?

I would have burned that school uniform, transparent top and all, right after the graduation party.

GinCA

Thanks for your great recap Julia. You were really on fire.

Thanks for sharing your ritual decie girl.

So sad I missed this episode as it sounds like it was a good one, but so glad I missed seeing those ugly brown uniforms again. Ack! :)

Julia: when I finished high school I had to go back to a ceremony to get my diploma after classes were over. It was mandatory to assist wearing your uniform. I think that's how they do things here. Same thing with my earlier studies.

Jarocha

By the way you look gorgeous in your picture at the sidebar. You give those young telenovela stars a run for their money.
